Cressida Bonas had a quiet lockdown wedding with Harry Wentworth-Stanley

Cressida Bonas got engaged to Harry Wentworth-Stanley last year, after dating for about two years. Both Cressida and Harry W-S have aristocratic pedigree, which matters to some people, and they were considered a good match and a smart match. Cressida mostly made headlines following the engagement for the other Harry though, her ex Prince Harry. Cressida was a bit shady in January and then again an interview last month, where she wouldn’t say one word of support for her ex and his wife, but she would talk about how “fear” limited her choices when she was with royal Harry. Well, anyway, Cressida had a low-key wedding with Harry Wentworth-Stanley:

Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas has married her fiancé Harry Wentworth-Stanley in a private ceremony. The Winchester-born actress, 31, who famously dated the Duke of Sussex, 35, for three years, exchanged vows with Mr Wentworth-Stanley, the estate agent son of the Marchioness of Milford Haven, over the weekend.

The couple who cancelled their original plans due to the coronavirus pandemic, tied the knot in a countryside ceremony attended by family including the bride’s brother Jacobi Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, who shared a photograph of the happy couple on Instagram. The snap shows the newlyweds ‘riding off into the sunset’ on horseback and was set to the song What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.

It comes just a week after Cressida’s close friend Princess Beatrice married property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a surprise secret service in Windsor.

Details of Cressida and Harry’s wedding are not known but the photo shows the bride riding the horse with her white sleeveless wedding dress pulled up over her knees. The groom is dressed in a navy suit. Cressida has previously spoken of her desire to have a low-key wedding and it appears she was granted her wish. There currently are a maximum of 30 people allowed at weddings in England. It is not known how many guests were invited to the ceremony but the couple both come from large families that would quickly make up the numbers.

[From The Daily Mail]

Some of Cressida’s “friends” claimed that Prince Harry did propose to her and she said no. In a sliding-doors scenario, I do wonder what that would have been like. I liked Cressida at the time, and I thought she would have been an interesting addition to the royal family, mostly because the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would have been crazed with jealousy. And look what happened – the very same thing, only with Meghan. It was always written that whenever Harry married, Will and Kate would attack his bride and try to smear them. I think Cressida probably realized that. Anyway, congrats to her and the other Harry.

They look similar. Anyway congratulations and stay happy!

  2. Ginger says:

Congrats to her but I will never buy that her or Chelsy didn’t want the royal life. Harry will leave the royal life for you. I honestly don’t think he was ready then. After he got help he seemed more mature and I think ready to settle down. The press make it out that he proposed to everyone and they want Meghan to be a last resort. You don’t date Prince Harry and then be shocked by all of the attention.

    • GG says:

I don’t disagree that Chelsy especially considered very seriously settling down with Harry. To me Chelsy and Harry we’re growing up together while they dated so that bonds them strongly, but I think Harry and Chelsy are fundamentally incompatible in a marriage. Cressida was Harry’s bad pancake before finding the perfect love for him. I don’t think Harry would have had the confidence to leave the BRF without having as strong a support system as Meghan. Meghan makes Harry want to be a better man. I also think his security in her love not being contingent on anything makes him gladly give up the world of be he thought it would make her happy.

      • Em says:

        Bad pancake 💀

I’m adding this to my phrasebook immediately.

      • candy says:

That’s an interesting take! I never saw Harry and Chelsy working out for some reason. She especially doesn’t seem to want to settle down and I admire her for that, she seems like a free spirit. I think some relationships work because you’re compatible and have similar backgrounds, but that only leads to marriage if you’re launching a “future” together. Longterm puppy love can stall without momentum. That’s why it isn’t necessarily about the length of dating, more about common goals. I honestly didn’t think Kate and William would get married for that reason and was surprised when they did. Also, how awkward dating two guys with the same name right in a row? lol.

    • Sofia says:

Chelsy and Harry seemed to have a puppy love and were possibly even each other’s first loves. But like GG says, incompatible as a marriage. Him and Cressida seemed like they were just partying all the time and that’s what “united” them.

      • molly says:

Harry and Cressida would have been divorced in under a decade, guaranteed. At least FOUR divorces among their parents and a relationship built on partying? No way that lasts.

    • Princess Peach says:

      Totally agree.

I do think that Cressida would have done better with the aristo set. Kate doesn’t seem to have much sway with those folks. And we all saw how Rose Hanbury humiliated her when she tried to get the Turnip Toffs to ice her out.

  3. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Wow. They have the exact same face.

    • Alexandria says:

Slight hijack, congratulations AN for completing your book! Wishing lots of love, good health and success your way !

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

@Alexandria Thank you so very much! I’m playing the waiting game now – the next 4-6 weeks will be fraught, but I’m absolutely determined to get there. I’ll let you know when it’s published and send a review copy to dear Kaiser and all the other lovely writers for CB. And I’m starting work on the second novel of the trilogy! Thanks to you and everyone who has given me such support and encouragement – this site is such a lovely and supportive community.

  4. dlc says:

Always found her bland as oatmeal. Also, it sounds like she was in thick with the aristos snubbing Meghan. Congrats on her wedding tho.

  5. Sofia says:

Congrats to them. May they have many happy years.

  6. babsjohnson says:

That other Harry is kinda hot. Good for you girl.

    • Esmom says:

Agreed, lol. And to those who say they look alike, I see that their eyes are shaped differently.

  7. Elizabeth Regina says:

Is she the one her reporter god mother was begging Harry to marry? The one who still uses Harry for clout (i.e. blaming her career not taking off on him). I wish her all the happiness she wished/wishes Meghan.

    • Ginger says:

Yup. The godmother who was begging Harry to take her back. I heard from multiple people they broke up over a plane ticket. The press liked her because her family loved talking to them.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

What I find most interesting about her is her mother. So many half siblings. If that has been Meghan’s mother, she would have been fodder for the BM.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yep. I find it hilarious that she pulled a Kate post-breakup and started dressing up for public strolls. Obviously it didn’t work.

    • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

She is. I never understood her appeal.

  8. Becks1 says:

    Congrats to them.

I never had a feeling about her one way or the other – She always struck me as sort of…bland, but maybe she had more personality in person.

Honestly, at this point I don’t think there’s anyone Harry could have married who would not have drawn the ire of the Cambridges. Harry is (or was) more popular than William, so I think whoever he married would have received a lot of attention. I do think though that Cressida’s aristocratic background would have protected her somewhat.

    • ItReallyIsYouNotMe says:

Agree that Cressida would have been attacked by the press and used as fodder by the Cambridge’s, but not to the same degree as Meghan because of Cressida’s aristo background. Just as if Harry had married a white, American actress, she would have had it harder than Cressida but much easier than Meghan. Snobbery, racism, and colonialism have a lot of layers to them.

    • notasugarhere says:

Both Charles and William would have loved having Isabella around at family gatherings. Kate would have spent her time throwing Cressida under a bus and trying to keep William away from Isabella.

      • goofpuff says:

Cressida as Prince Harry’s wife would be a nightmare for Kate because then Cressida would be the “English Rose” with the proper aristo background and connections that Kate dreams of having. Kate would try to smear her, but I’m guessing the rank and file would protect Kate and Kate would end up getting worse press.

      • candy says:

Wow, I didn’t realize the two brothers dated two sisters. The aristos really are incestuous.

  9. Angel says:

She got the best deal tbh. That royal life looks like a nightmare. No money in the world is worth being in that toxic family.

  10. Mina_Esq says:

OH man, I would have enjoyed seeing what hipster paradise she had dreamed up for her wedding! I’m thinking loose hair with flowers and a theme and catering that incorporate some level of cultural appropriation, maybe India or maybe something from the African continent (Moroccan? Sudanese? Tunisian?). Ah well, wish them well!

    • Mumbles says:

Boho hipster I can see, but I am unaware of any past incidents with her and cultural appropriation and the one photo they released was them on horses.

I also don’t get why what she said about the Sussexes was shady. Harry was her ex. She has no obligation to say anything supportive about them, just as long as she doesn’t say anything bad about them.

  11. Florence says:

I unashamedly love Cressida. Her podcast is brilliant and she is very eloquent.

    Congrats to the couple 🙂

  12. Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

Love the Daily Mail for getting the details wrong. Harry Wentworth-Stanley is the step-son of the Marquess of Milford-Haven, and Harry and Cressida dated for 2 years, not 3. And yes, her family is messy but they are aristocratic messy which seems to be fine for the courtiers at BP & KP. Cressida seemed like she would have been malleable if Harry had married her.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Neither the the Daily Fail or Tatler ever get the details and/or titles correct. The Daily Fail I can understand regarding the titles but not Tatler.

    • Lowrider says:

No way would Cressida have been malleable. The media and courtiers tried to shame her into styling herself better but she doubled down on the scrunchies and her unwashed look.

None of Harry’s previous girlfriends or wife are malleable.

  13. TyrantDestroyed says:

They’re a good looking couple. I didn’t know she was that petite. Congrats to both.

  14. Lizzie says:

So, are they calling her a show girl?

  15. MellyMel says:

They look related. I always think it’s funny couples resemble each other. Congrats to them tho!

  16. minx says:

He’s cute, more so than Harry (ducks).

    • Lowrider says:

      It’s the truth (stands proudly)

      • Growl says:

I agree. I’ve always found Harry unattractive with his beady eyes and weak chin. I doubt that any of these beautiful women would’ve given him the time of the day if he wasn’t a Prince. Cressida traded up. Better looking dude and hopefully a less messy family.

      • minx says:

        😂😂

  17. RedWeatherTiger says:

She often looks like she could use a shower. Maybe that’s called “earthy” in the aristo community?

  18. emu says:

    love it

  19. A says:

Wentworth-Stanley is like, an extremely posh name, I love it so much.

Her engagement ring is ‘meh’ but congratulations to the happy couple.

  20. nicegirl says:

Wow, her brother’s name is a mouthful.
