Gov. Cuomo on Chainsmokers non-socially distanced concert: DOH will investigate

With the abject failure of the federal government, which seems to be actively trying to kill us by spreading misinformation, it’s down to the state governors to set covid guidelines. New York was one of the hardest hit states initially, but Cuomo’s leadership helped bring numbers down and save lives. They’re now issuing violations and suspending licenses of businesses that don’t adhere to covid restrictions and they’re noticing when events aren’t socially distanced. Gov. Cuomo tweeted about a recent Chainsmokers concert in Southampton which was supposed to be drive-in and socially distanced, but was definitely not, judging by the video he included. He wrote that there will be an investigation by the Department of Health and that he is appalled.

It’s hard to tell but I see a few masks at least. Still, you could not pay me to go to an event like that at this time. ET reports that tickets ranged from $850(!) to $25,000 for VIP packages. That’s insane. About 2,000 people attended. Buzzfeed has an investigative article about this concert, complete with quotes from some people who were there. They swear that it was socially distanced, that they felt safe and that security was cordoning off people in groups of ten. Those people would say that, they paid at least $850 for tickets. Other photos from the event show similar crowds. It does sound like organizers tried somewhat. Were they enforcing mask-wearing? Even with all those measures, how is it legal to have big concerts at this time? Maybe it would be ok if people were required to stay in or directly around their vehicles, but not with an area in front of the stage for them to gather.

The Chainsmokers have distributed flyers saying they’re planning more events like this one in other cities. I hope they reconsider, if only because of the backlash this concert is getting. It’s going to be up to each state to shut them down otherwise.

Oh and the last time we reported on these douches, Alex Pall, the taller guy, was getting blasted by his girlfriend for cheating on her.

They’ve had socially distanced drive in concerts here in New Orleans at the lakefront. My friend went. She said everyone behaved regarding social distancing and stayed in their assigned area. That you could leave your area to go to the bathrooms but had to wear a mask. And there was active enforcement of those rules.
So it can be done. With people who are not entitled dumbasses and with some hall monitor employees to remind people.

I know it’s unkind- but I enjoy the karma boomerang when people flout the rules on COVID and then get sick.

They’re doing some here at a racetrack, drive in events, and I’m going to attempt to get concert tickets for their garden concert series, but I’m very worried that other people won’t obey the rules (masks on, stay at your table, no dancing, etc).

  2. ccsays says:

Good grief, they have the douchiest faces I think I’ve ever seen. Hope getting the rona was worth it kids 😬

    • whatWHAT? says:

they have like, the douche uniform on.

bad facial hair, either a baseball hat or frosted tips, shirt open with chains showing…I’m surprised they don’t both have on skinny jeans with hi-tops.

    • Gutterflower says:

God they really do look like frat bro douchetards. Gross. Imagine waking up to that after a drunken night? Straight to the clinic.

  3. Kari says:

I know this was supposed to be a drive in event but I feel like folks are simply slapping the whole “socially distant” label to any event and really just lying to themselves. I have had so many friends and people I know attend “socially distant” BBQs and Bday parties and based on the pictures…I’m not quite sure if they know what socially distancing means.

Also yeah… of all the things to risk your health over… I am embarrassed for these folks.

    • lucy2 says:

The day after they raised the number of people gatherings here in NJ, someone I know had a bunch of teachers over to her house. They all sat apart in the yard…and then crammed together for photos. No masks. Stupid.

  4. Michelle says:

This is next level douchery – are they going for some sort of guinness world record for douchiness? I can’t even comprehend the sort of people that sought this out – imagine you’re willing to risk your life to see…The Chainsmokers?!?!

  5. CROOKSNNANNIES says:

I don’t like the Chainsmokers but I feel like no one who bought tickets went with the intention of social distancing. Like who would watch a DJ set and just…sit. They always intended to dance and jump around and I’m sure the Chainsmokers knew that.

  6. Ann says:

$850 for the chainsmokers?? I know the pandemic aspect of this is the important part of the story but I can’t get over paying anything more than the price of fair admission to see these frat boy buttheads.

    • Michelle says:

Actually, these ‘frat boy buttheads’ have put on the best show in the many concerts that I have been to over the years. With that being said, $850 is a little much to see anyone in concert and it was probably not the best time to be doing this.

      • Teresa says:

No snark, what made the concert so great in your mind? Just energy levels? I saw Pink once and she was incredible because of her singing and acrobatics and it was free for me. I just don’t know what the Chainsmokers would do in a show?

      • Ann says:

To each their own. I saw them at Coachella and they sucked. One of the worst shows of the weekend.

      • Michelle says:

Teresa…just the light show and the high energy of the concert itself. I can’t even remember who opened for them (some angsty wanna be Alanis Morrisette type who couldn’t sing) but they were really great. This group is not in my age demographic but I have enjoyed their music and my daughter wanted to go so we went. I was not disappointed.

      • Dani says:

I saw them at Vegas at the Encore beach club and it was literally the biggest waste of time lol I’ve seen Tiesto, Calvin Harris and even Deadmaus at Encore and those were some amazing sets.

Cuomo’s leadership lead to the death of thousands of people who lived and worked in nursing homes, who worked in schools, who are incarcerated, who live in public housing. He delayed, delayed, delayed closing schools and businesses. His NYS Department of Health mislead the public in the early days of the pandemic, purposely communicated different information from the NYC Department of Health. Cuomo has ordered police officers WHO REFUSE TO WEAR MASKS to ticket and shut down bars who don’t enforce social distancing when their patrons drink on the sidewalk or road outside of the bar’s open seating. These patrons are always, ALWAYS primarily Black and Black-Latinx.

Despite his obsession with monitoring how black people legally drink their legally purchased to-go cocktail, he is has not announced that the organizers of this event have been fined. Just an investigation. There is no need for an investigation, just fine the organizers to here and back. But Cuomo won’t even after an investigation. Because he is a racist, self-obsessed, narcissist, who is not competent. Let’s raise the bar higher than Trump to call a man who ordered COVID POSITIVE NURSING HOME RESIDENTS BACK INTO NURSING HOMES and who is now ordering his good little girl AG James to stymie any investigation into that decision.

And oh yeah, while NYS falling into a financial abyss he refuses to raise taxes on the many billionaires who live in NYS because he says without evidence that ‘they’ll just move’. He also refuses to pass any utility or rent or mortgage relief. Cuomo is an awful, awful governor who consistently undermines the long-term health of our communities.

  8. Mumbles says:

Fun fact – Opening for the Chainsmokers was….the 50-something chairman of Goldman Sachs, who apparently DJs as a hobby and everyone indulges him because he’s rich and powerful. Yet another example of the mega-rich and powerful acting recklessly and disregarding the law and not caring about the consequences.

  9. Léna says:

Hahahaha those tweets are killing me

  10. MellyMel says:

All this…for the Chainsmokers??? Send me that $850 and I’ll spend it on something that actually matters.

  11. Case says:

All I’ll say is that I saw Chainsmokers perform at the Global Citizen Festival a few years ago and they were out of breath within the first two minutes of their set. So ridiculously bad.

    • Sara says:

Shortness of breath is what happens if you chain smoke. I’ll be here all night, folks.

  12. Nope says:

I Wouldn’t even watch them for free

  13. Renee says:

They need to investigate why anyone even likes these douchenozzles.

  14. Audrey says:

Are all those lights their phones?! That is so stupid! I’ve never heard a recording of a live concert that has been listenable. Grrr….

  15. Tiffany says:

How is it that these two are not related and managed to morph into looking exactly alike.

Is douchebag just a singular genetic trait?

  16. Sara says:

Is “Chainsmokers” code for Douchebags in bro culture?
