Is Bella Hadid’s Brooklyn street style more ’90s cool or early-’00s cute?

Bella Hadid seen leaving a vintage shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn while shopping with a friend

I’m so hungry for any kind of red carpet or street-style photos these days, I jump at the chance to write about anything fashion-related. So here we go! Bella Hadid is in New York right now, after spending several months in lockdown with her family in Pennsylvania, where (I think?) they have some kind of horse farm. Bella has actually been on the move for the past month, but I guess she’s been settling down in New York (she owns an apartment in the city).

Bella was seen doing some shopping yesterday in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She stopped by 10 Ft Single by Stella Dallas, which is a vintage shop. As you can see, it looks like Bella got quite the haul. I used to love vintage shops but these days, I rarely buy clothes in person (I’ve ordered everything clothing-wise online for years now). If I had Bella’s figure, I would love shopping in person though. I bet she’s the annoying friend who looks good in everything she tries on.

As for Bella’s look – I’ve seen some sites describe it as a ‘90s retro style and I can sort of see that. If you dropped Bella into 1997 with this ensemble, she would not stand out at all. The jewelry choices – especially the choker – are very ‘90s. I’m debating whether the pants/jeans are ‘90s though – they’re more early ‘00s to me. Most of the cool kids in the ‘90s would have looked down on those jeans as too corporate, too cutesy! But going braless in a tank = totally ‘90s. And it’s always nice to see an It Girl modeling good mask-wearing behavior!

Those jeans are highwasted so neither 90s nor 2000s. It’s 90’s top and 80’s bottom.
It’s strange how this generation is so nostalgic.

      It’s such a mishmash!
And It just shows I am totally outdated and out of style I am. Just like her sisters apartment that I didn’t particularly like.

I can’t go back to wideleg! What are these colours? The pattern omg noooo. Platform sneakers and … *whispers* bucket hats.

Now the tank is cute and I love that women are feeling better about going braless if they wish.

Lived through the ’80s: the pants aren’t ’80s–no one wore bell bottoms in the ’80s and the jeans are too loose, but the high waist and the paisley pattern is definitley ’80s. I would say the pants are late ’90s/early ’00s.

At least they aren’t JNCO with the cutesy print!

  2. meggx says:

Yeah nothing Brooklyn street style about this.
Don’t get me wrong, I like what she’s wearing, but I laughed at the title.

  3. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Those pants could span the 70s and 80s with the right accessories. Had some flared pink numbers in the 70s with a similar print and some almost similar to hers in the 80s.

    • BeanieBean says:

There you go, 70s-era pants + I remember going braless in tank tops in the 70s.

  4. Bibi says:

This doesn’t make the cut for fashion on the 90’s or beginning 00’s.

  5. ReginaGeorge says:

No self-respecting native Brooklynite in the 90’s (or even now) would ever be caught dead wearing that. That’s total colonizer hipster ish.

This whole outfit makes me want to shop at Limited Too.

    • Noodle says:

My daughters went through their Limited Too (it’s now called “Justice”) phase and I’m SO glad that ship has sailed. The clothes are poorly made with terrible fabrics, super expensive, and look like a unicorn-llama hybrid threw up on them.

  7. PineNut says:

those pants look like a pair I owned in 1969.

  8. Katie says:

I’m pretty sure I wore that exact tank top in the late 90s…but she needs butterfly hair clips to really work it.

  9. Stacy Dresden says:

Thought 1: Early 00s because where are her eyebrows?
Thought 2: The look is totally current day because we are living in a pastiche hellhole when it comes to fashion. Have y’all seen the latest fashion shows? Solid looks are few and far between.

  10. JillyBean says:

High wasted pants is frigging eighties and now. Flower printed denim is eighties/ nineties

  11. Alyse says:

Neither cool nor cute… the garish patterns say 00s, the jeans are like 00s fabric on an 80s cut. The top is v late 90s/00s.

As someone who grew up in the 90s/00s… 90s style was way better! 00s style didn’t improve until 2005ish when the Sienna/ Kate Moss/ Alexa Chung influence took over

Listen everyone. I am no fashion expert, but I have eyes. Tiny glasses are not, and have never been flattering on anyone.
Only honorary exception is on Meg Ryan in The Doors movie.
    ONLY exception.

  13. Maureen says:

The button up is the 90’s, the tank 2000. The pants…Uh no idea. Print is definitely not from either and the bell size is definitely not from the 90s.
