Martha Stewart, 78, got 14 proposals after her ‘thirst trap’ pool selfie

Martha Stewart posted this selfie by her pool last week and she started a national (international?) conversation about how cool she is. Martha is 78 years old and she still wears frosted lipstick and icy makeup and she’s great at Instagram. We stan, in general. After her pool selfie, Chelsea Handler inserted herself into Martha’s business but I honestly hate Chelsea Handler and I avoid covering her as much as possible. So let’s just talk about Martha and how she loves the attention she got from her pool selfie:

Martha Stewart knows she looks good. The lifestyle expert sent fans into a tailspin last week as she posted a sexy snap of herself chilling by the pool. Followers praised Stewart for the sultry photo, with some labeling it a “thirst trap.” “I don’t even know what that is,” Stewart told ET’s Nischelle Turner on Monday. Turner explained the term to Stewart — who happily agreed with the label. “That’s definitely a thirst trap,” Stewart said.

The mogul has posted a few glamour shots on her Instagram before. This one came about because she “just thought I looked great coming out of the pool.” “My camera came on backwards, you know, selfie mode, and I looked so nice. The sun was on my face. I thought, ‘Oh, that looks pretty,’ so I took the picture. It looked good.”

Before she built her business, Stewart earned money as a model — but she’s quick to say she’s still in her “heyday.”

“Just eat well, exercise well, garden, climb mountains,” she said of her secret to looking this good. “I climbed Kilimanjaro. For goodness sake, I went up into the Himalayas. You have to do that kind of stuff. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps one vibrant and young and it’s important.”

“I’m finished with birthdays, darling. We’re going backwards now,” she declared — has been working for the last six months to develop a line of CBD skincare, which will be out later this year. “It’s called 86 Elm, and this is exclusive to you. I haven’t told anybody yet,” she shared. “I’ve been using that for the last six months, and I really think it has helped make my skin even more lustrous and good.”

I love Martha – “what is a thirst trap” to “yes it was definitely a thirst trap” in about 30 seconds. We stan! And “I’m finished with birthdays, darling” is epic. F–k birthdays. No one needs birthdays anymore (kids can have birthdays, but adults can and should stop!). Martha also told E! News that after her pool selfie, she had people proposing to her: “I’ve had 14 proposals, I don’t know what for, but they’re proposals. I haven’t checked lately, that was the first day.”

In case anyone thought this was just some random whatever, Martha knows what she’s doing – she’s got a new HGTV show called Martha Knows Best. This is all free promotion for her, darling.

I know right? Even if there are filters – they’re still very natural and she still looks damn good at 78. I hope I can look as good at 78.

I think the “oh this is a unplanned selfie” is hogwash, but still an amazing picture.

She is 4 years older than the comb-over clown in the WH. Damn….

Yes — this is the best advert for her skin care line.

LOVE Martha! My sister and I follow her and are always sharing her pictures and snarky comments with each other. I loved her sassy response to Chelsea’s remake of the photo. She’s too funny!

Martha is right up there with Jane Fonda for still being beautiful in her 70’s. She’s taken very good care of herself And boy does it show.

  8. Sid says:

    That was a great picture.

I find Martha very impressive in terms of the business and brands she has built. I recall reading that she worked as a stockbroker in the 1960s. Considering that finance is still pretty heavily weighted toward men, I can’t imagine what it was like working in that industry as a young woman back then.

Something happened to Martha in prison. She seems so much happier and chilled these days !

I told my husband the other day the best thing that ever happened to her was going to prison. It gave her street cred & she seems to give zero F**** now. Good for her

I was taking a women’s history class in college when Martha’s criminal trial and sentence went down, and something the professor said in response has stuck with me. In that class we talked a lot about the impact of The Feminine Mystique and women being desperate to break out of the suburban prison back in the day. She said that Martha was unique because she took something that was historically socially acceptable but oppressive to women (ie being good homemakers) and turned it into a multi billion dollar business that made her powerful. She said Martha was something patriarchy feared the most – a woman finding a way around the oppression by using the very tools that were intended to keep her down. Basically, Martha has always been a badass.

She astounds me with how amazing she looks. If she’s had work done it isn’t obvious, unlike most celebrities her age.
