Olympian Kerri Walsh Jennings thinks it’s her constitutional right to go maskless

Kerri Walsh Jennings arrives at the World Pre...

For three consecutive Olympic games, Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor were the GOATs of beach volleyball. They won gold medals in Athens, Beijing and London. After London, Misty retired and Kerri continued playing with a new partner, April Ross, and they won bronze at the Rio Olympics. Kerri has sponsors and she earns millions, I’m sure, and I’m bringing that up because I have to wonder if her bank account is about to take a massive hit. If I’m being honest, she always gave off that ultra-earnest churchy vibe, but I had no idea that she was, like, a full-blown hyper-conservative Mask Conspiracist. She posted a lengthy message on her Instagram on Labor Day. I won’t post the entire thing, but she starts off apologizing for what she’s about to say and claims that she’s only saying this because “I am wanting to be a light, an encourager of the strength + resilience within each of us and I aspire to be someone whom empowers others to take ownership of all sides of their lives.” Oh, no. Whom empowers, y’all.

Here we go ….I had a little exercise in being brave yesterday & I’m still a bit edgy about it.

I went shopping without a mask on & this is why … I read a quote the other day that shook me – – THIS HAS NOT BEEN ENFORCED, IT’S BEEN CONSENTED TO.

This statement woke me up & the truth of it has had me obsessing on the matter of how I can mindfully & compassionately stand up for my rights & for the freedoms our constitution has granted us all WITHOUT being reckless or putting anyone else in danger.

We are all endlessly complaining about the restrictive & arbitrarily selective rules that we are being strongly “suggested” to follow & yet we are all consenting; Not much of a fight, just a lot of complaining & strongly disagreeing with this manipulation, but we keep consenting. It’s maddening. It has crushed our society, people’s livelihoods, our children’s spirits, & the fabric of our world. We have become a country & a world estranged from each other & it is more deeply unhealthy than any virus could ever be.

I know people are getting sick & many have gone to Heaven. I have lived through a lot of loss in my family, in my life. I cherish life. I would never downplay the impact of a single loss of life. That is it’s own conversation & my heart goes out to all those suffering poor health, the loss of a loved one and the fear that the reaction to & media coverage of COVID-19 has created in your days.

[From Kerri’s Instagram]

I just… my God: “how I can mindfully & compassionately stand up for my rights & for the freedoms our constitution has granted us all WITHOUT being reckless or putting anyone else in danger.” You could just wear a mask. That’s all it would take to compassionately and mindfully stand up for your rights and the rights of others. It really is that simple, you absolute unhinged, selfish a–hole. You are not being drafted into a f–king war you don’t believe in politically, you are being asked to wear a mask and to put public safety ahead of your own narrow, daft, unscientific dumbassery.

After that, Kerri’s IG comments were in shambles and she ended up posting another lengthy IG post, once again apologizing “to those I’ve upset so deeply.” She then doubles-down on her bulls–t, and here’s most of that:

…To those calling me dumb, selfish, privileged, bigoted, and racist and telling me that “you are better than this”, I fully acknowledge that addressing such an emotional, layered, nuanced and polarizing topic on social media was not the smartest thing …. pages and pages could be written about every side of everyone’s opinion, yet I went for it because I am alarmed for my country – I am heartbroken for my children – I am devastated for every small business owner who has gone under or who is barely hanging on – I have seen so much conflicting and erroneous data from the experts – and on and on and on – I have researched and I have spoken with experts …. This is why I spoke my point of view. At some point we should all stop and take inventory of everything that has been thrown our way over the past months and the reaction/ to these things. If it sits well or well enough with you, great. If not, great. We should all carry on RESPECTFULLY living our virtues, standing up for our beliefs and doing our best to do no harm in doing so.

I was not looking to do anything but express my belief that FREEDOM IS RIGHT WORTH FIGHTING FOR, and amidst the chaos, divisiveness, fear and undeniable emotion of these times, I believe we have to stay mindful of the FACT that our freedoms have slowly been taken from us with our consent. I feel each of the words I mentioned above (fear/chaos/divisiveness) are being intentionally stoked and we are becoming a country that I do not recognize. The comment section of my last post is a reflection of where we are at and it is …. tragic. I’m not quite sure when we became a world where a differing opinion equates to evil and hatred, but here we are.

I am not advocating for people to stop wearing masks. I wear a mask most often. I don’t believe in their efficacy unless it’s of a certain caliber, yet I wear them. I am advocating critical thinking and civility. I am advocating personal responsibility.

[From Kerri’s IG]

“MY FREEDUMB” she cried, breathing in the coronavirus-y air at her jacked up, no-masks-allowed Labor Day party with 400 other people. Why are these people the f–king worst? Again, this is a very simple, very basic test of citizenship for everyone: do you give a sh-t about anyone other than yourself? If the answer is yes, wear a f–king mask.

Oh, and she’s also worried about “vaccine mandates.” I hate it when people are this f–king disappointing.

    IDIOT.

    • Desdemona says:

      Agreed!!

    • Traveler says:

What a word salad of entitled nonsense.
Just say what you need to say…….”It’s all about me, I don’t give a f**k about being a responsible citizen as a member of society”. The end.

    • Annaloo. says:

Someone go light up a cigarette and smoke around this athlete and her kids. It’s a Constitutional RIGHT and it’s about the same thing. Doesn’t harm as fast as Covid does, but just as deadly!

  2. Darla says:

There’s a silver lining in every cloud. For some, the silver lining in mask mandates is quite a bit larger than for others. The trick is knowing when that means you and being grateful. I’ll leave it there.

  3. Nikki* says:

One of the most depressing things about our Covid crisis has been realizing how many imbeciles and racists live in the U.S.

    • shanaynay says:

They were always here, but they just hid it really well.

      • Snappyfish says:

This administration has allowed the racist, misogynistic & Bigoted to crawl out from under the rocks they were hiding. Gave them permission to bring their hatred into sunlight. I have seen sides of people that I didn’t know existed in the last 4 years. Truly disheartening. Wearing a mask says a great deal about who you are & a great deal more about those who don’t wear one. We should care about our fellow man, woman, child, dog, cat etc

    • Tiffany says:

      Seriously????

      It took a viral pandemic.

      Okay.

      • Nikki* says:

Yes, Tiffany, seriously. I lived in a very liberal, progressive area, and I wildly underestimated both.

      • Sojaschnitzel says:

@Nikki same. I am in constant shock about how people have changed. Our simulation of a liberal, democratic, sufficiently intelligent society was really convincing over here.

    • Jules says:

The virus is narcissism, and it is taking over humanity.

      • jbones says:

        …Or the virus is Individualism.

      • Trashaddict says:

Eh, I agree with Jules. You can wear 5000 different colors of masks, so you can still be an individualist. It takes a narcissistic jerk to not consider that covering up your face might slow down the pandemic and bring us back to business/school/life normality that much faster.

    • NightOwl says:

Depressing but I do love the clarity of it all and the exposure of character.

      • Nikki* says:

That’s a good takeaway I guess, NightOwl, but I’m still reeling. How stupid am I to not know a number of my former friends wouldn’t support BLM? They never said racist things in my presence, yet they now care much more about a small amount of civil disobedience than a huge amount of systemic racism and brutality! Every Trump sign or bumper sticker I see is another occasion for incredulity and despair, and they are ALL AROUND my new neighborhood.

      • josephine says:

I’m with you — it’s always good to bring racism, stupidity, entitlement, selfishness, classism, etc… into the light.

So she was right in that she was bringing something to light – she was bringing to light her own sense of entitlement and her deep ignorance and selfishness.

      • SilentStar says:

I think we white people need to remember that if we are taken by surprise that our friends are bigots and racists, then we have been playing too large a role in creating a shelter of privilege around ourselves. It means we have been protecting these bigots and racists by not having these discussions. We need to ask ourselves why we have not even talked about these things, when any other demographic cannot even avoid the effects of bigotry and racism if they tried.
All due respect, but if you are surprised that your friends are bigots and racists, you need to do better. I really don’t mean to be insulting, I am just hoping to remind some of us that it’s extremely privileged to not even have to have these conversations. In this day and age, we need to recognize that and change that.

      • Don't Trust the B in Comment 23 says:

I’d agree if it wasn’t because this “exposure of character” revealed that every single compulsive narcissist devoid of empathy (and also probably filled to brim with racism and all sorts of bigotry, because why not) are the people in power.

      • Nikki* says:

I agree with you SilentStar, and I am honestly trying to do much better, as is my extended family.

  4. Aurora says:

I disagree with her about wearing maskS. Just shut up and do it.

I agree about the vaccine mandate especially if the vaccine is being developed and rushed out by Trump and his cronies. They are claiming a vaccine wilI be available in November which means there is no way proper testing was done. I suspect essential workers (I.e. majority black and brown people) will be forced to get it and become unwitting guinea pigs.

    • Darla says:

Trump rushing out the vaccine is going to cause so much long term damage, it makes my head spin just thinking about it. I have every intention of taking this vaccine, but not one he pulled out of his butt. He’s a conman and a snake oil salesman, and everyone knows it. Even his own supporters know it, they won’t take it. The long term damage is going to be to vaccines all together. The crazy anti-vaxxers will jump on this and maliciously and gleefully exploit it to do damage to people’s trusts in all vaccines.

The damage trump is doing to this country and our public health is long term, likely irreversible, and cannot yet be measured.

    • chicken tetrazzini! says:

From a production and a distribution standpoint it’s impossible for a vaccine to be ready by Nov. They are still doing trials now and that takes months of follow-up, or at least the email I got from my University indicated that they needed months to track me if I signed up for the phase 3 trial they are starting. The major drug companies are also pumping the breaks because if the vaccine fails or hurts more than it helps, the lawsuits will ruin them. Hoping we have one soon, but I highly doubt a vaccine is what’s going to save Dumpf’s presidency

      • Scal says:

How sad is it that it’s big pharma that’s going to be smart and think about safety for everyone and not the CDC. Sigh.

      • Swack says:

        Then there is this:

“A large, Phase 3 study testing a Covid-19 vaccine being developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford at dozens of sites across the U.S. has been put on hold due to a suspected serious adverse reaction in a participant in the United Kingdom.”

From a website called Stat, but it is in other reporting sites also.

      • Bigfoot says:

there won’t be any lawsuits. They can’t be sued over vaccine injuries.

    • Veronica S. says:

Agree on the vaccine mandate. Rushed out way too quickly with no real time to properly test it. Even vaccines made in the best of times without FDA shortcuts sometimes run into production issues and have to be recalled or reconfigured. Big Pharma lives for idiots like this giving them fodder to argue anti-vaxxers are all uneducated morons without any nuance to the argument – and most of the loud ones are, don’t get me wrong, but there are absolutely demographics who have a reason to be wary given some of the historical damage done to them by the medical community.

    • ClaireB says:

I read some comment somewhere that said Trump’s vaccine will be labled Uncle Vlad’s Magic Wizard Oil, because it will be whatever untested garbage Putin is giving his own people.

    • pottymouth pup says:

I’ve been trying to figure out how the expectation there will be enough data from interim analysis to have one completed at the end of October/early November so I trekked over to clinicaltrials.gov and realized that since the first combo phase 1/2/3 trial started at the end of April and randomized just under 30K subjects and the current phase 3 started enrollment at the end of July, they’ll have 3-6 months worth of follow up data from subjects randomized in the first trial and at least 2 months worth of data on about 10K subjects 1-2 months of data on another 10K (they had over 20K randomized in the phase 3 over a week ago) – this is where they’ll have the info to determine > 3-6 months of immune response and safety. Understand that for trials of drugs taken daily to treat chronic indications the pivotal phase 3s are often 12 weeks of exposure in those trials (companies also run 1-year studies for longer term safety data as well). The pharma companies running these trials have pulled a shit-ton of resources to focus on these trials – they are the companies’ top priority and these studies are the top priority of the sites conducting them which is why enrollment is going like gangbusters (many have told the teams for other studies they’re also conducting that they won’t be screening for our trials until they’ve filled their complement of subjects in the vax trials). The trials are being run in adults only so I can’t imagine a vax mandate for children any time soon, and I don’t expect pediatric trials to start until they have a lot more safety data from the current trials. Full disclosure: I have 20+ years working in clinical drug development (vaccines & oncology are pretty much the only therapeutic areas I haven’t worked in)

      • Michelle says:

Thank you for this breakdown! I hate constantly hearing the vaccine will be here by November. Common sense should tell people that it won’t be! It’s a ridiculous and dangerous promise from a disgusting person desperate to hold on to his power. But for those that fight their inner common sense, I love facts like these! (Sadly many of his followers will ignore facts and science.)

      • ME says:

Yeah except our borders aren’t really closed. You can’t drive over the border but you can still fly over it. It’s ridiculous. A closed border should be actually closed !

I sit in Maine gazing forlornly northward…trapped by an orange moron. So close, yet so far.

    • Tursitops says:

A serious question: is part of the problem that our American neighbours are reluctant to seek or take advice from other countries? Kamala Harris, a very smart woman, was recently discussing a bill that would prevent prosecutors’ offices from investigating wrongdoing amongst the police agencies in their jurisdictions. In 2020. Many countries saw the inherent conflict of interest decades ago and reacted accordingly.

I wonder whether the same is true of the Covid crisis. I would ask our American neighbours whether they think that the tendency to avoid consulting with other countries in general has contributed to the dilemma. Rugged individualism strikes again?

  6. Case says:

I saw this yesterday and was in a rage. I don’t know what else to say other than she is unbelievably selfish and ignorant. She wants to reopen the world while protecting the vulnerable? Cool! That’s what the masks are for. The many people suggesting the vulnerable should just “stay home” while everyone else goes back to normal seem to forget that very basic underlying conditions, like high blood pressure, can kill you if you get COVID. Many people’s jobs don’t allow them the luxury of staying home.

People don’t seem to understand the connection that masks will lessen the spread, which will lessen cases, which will eventually bring us back to some form of normalcy. That’s how we do it. Together.

    • HoofRat says:

For me, wearing a mask is the difference between supporting and protecting my fellow human beings, or supporting and protecting the virus that is disabling and killing my fellow human beings. It astonishes and frustrates me that people can’t make that simple, obvious distinction.

      • snappyfish says:

It shows you are a decent human being. Wearing a mask says a lot about you are and more about those who don’t

    • Dee Kay says:

It’s not just that there are a vast number of underlying conditions that make COVID-19 especially dangerous, it’s also that perfectly healthy people are seeing their respiratory systems destroyed by this virus. Sure, lots of people recover just fine — but lots of young, healthy people can’t breathe well or can’t smell or taste anything months after contracting COVID. And even for the people who recover, there’s no telling what the long-term damage may be b/c it’s still too new to have run long-term studies. Obviously, the best thing for everyone to do is to do their darndest to NOT GET this virus and not spread it. Obviously.

    • emu says:

Exactly. If these “freedom”-loving peeps are so worried about the economy, WEARING MASKS IS THE WAY FORWARD! It’s only going to get worse as the cold weather sets in. If we want to open our economy, we have to be smart and wear the freaking masks then you can go about shooting guns and whatever else you think is hampered by the mild inconvenience of wearing a mask.

This is not the erosion of democracy and freedom and our civil rights. It is the smallest thing we can do to protect ourselves and eachother from a serious, fast-spreading, dangerous virus! I don’t know why people are equivocating wearing masks with ACTUAL government overreach. GAH

  7. Léna says:

We had a doctor on national television in france yesterday spreading bullshit as well. I just don’t understand how a tissue on your face is taking away your freedom, it doesn’t make any sense

  8. STRIPE says:

I look forward to her post about why seatbelt laws are unconstitutional and an assault on personal freedom too. Eye roll.

    • BlueSky says:

And speed limits. And car inspections to ensure safety. And food inspections. Hell, let’s bring back DDT!

I agree with what Kaiser said.
I think sis’ bank account is getting a little low and she‘s mad because she can’t make any money right now. Plus she’s dumb.

    • lucy2 says:

And wearing clothes in public and shoes in a restaurant. And driving on the correct side of the road. And stopping at stop signs.

It’s a piece of fabric over your face. No one is asking anyone to cut off a limb, give up all their money, lose their right to vote, abandon their religion. NOTHING. Just put a damn mask on to help reduce spread. THAT’S IT.

    • Nikki* says:

That’s what I say too! It all started with Trump; WHAT an idiot!

  9. JBee says:

If you want freedom, you also have to take responsibility for it, like wearing a mask.

    • emu says:

To some Americans it seems that freedom means doing anything you want, any time you want, without consequences.

  10. No Name says:

Went to Subway last night. As I pulled into the car park I see two guys walk in without masks. I waited for them to leave before going in. Just after I walk in a woman comes in without a mask. Seconds later her boyfriend walks in and glares at me as if to say ‘Yeah, I’m not wearing a mask and what are you gonna do about it?’ I maintained a social distance and got my stuff and left. The whole time I was there felt pretty tense. I was talking to my son about it when I got home and told him that I think some of the people who are going out without masks don’t care if they get into a fight over it. He said ‘It’s worse than that. They’re actually looking for one.’ Judging by the vibe I got off the goon in Subway I think he’s right.

    • Darla says:

Yes your son is right, many of them are looking for a fight. I would just leave. I carry mace which I bought specifically for this issue, I never carried it before. Just in case i am backed into a corner and one of these loons coughs in my face. But my first defense is to leave. I really want no part of these crazies, unless I am forced into a confrontation, in which case I will fight, and I come prepared. Let them all infect each other.

    • shanaynay says:

These people going without masks are too stupid to fight with. But ya’ll know these dumba**es will be the first ones to run the hospital when the get sick. Nothing but a bunch of hypocrites.

      • Trashaddict says:

I really wish that those who choose not to wear masks would sign a waiver that says they also “choose” not to use a ventilator when their lungs go out on them, that they will leave the vent for somebody who at least tried to protect others by masking and distancing.

    • amanda says:

We don’t have a provincial mask mandate but there is one in my city so seeing people without masks indoors is incredibly rare and rather shocking. I saw a man without one in a store last night and I wanted to squirt my hand sanitizer all over him. I’m actually afraid of the people who go without masks – I assume they are all completely unhinged and must be avoided.

    • Regular Poster says:

I am so thankful that my state has a mask mandate. Every store/business has a sign on the door saying that masks are required.

    • No Name says:

We have a state mandate about masks having to be worn in public, which makes the non mask wearers all the more belligerent.

    • L4frimaire says:

I think some people who go places without a mask are looking to fight or cause a scene.

  11. FYI says:

“I’m not quite sure when we became a world where a differing opinion equates to evil and hatred… ”

Your “differing opinion” equates to PEOPLE DYING. This isn’t difficult. It’s just like seat belts, speed limits, and not smoking indoors. We all have to curb certain behaviors in the interest of public health. Do you go on and on about your “rights” when you can’t drive 100 mph through the city? No. You comply, because that is what keeps you and everyone else safe.

The only difference is that your imaginary “differing opinions” and “rights” on covid are NINE TIMES more fatal than not driving the speed limit. (U.S. fatal car accidents in six months = 19,000. U.S. covid deaths in six months = 172,000.)

If your heart is breaking for your children, then I guess you will allow them to ride around in your car with no seat belt at 100 mph. You know, so they can be free.

    • Ocho says:

“If your heart is breaking for your children, then I guess you will allow them to ride around in your car with no seat belt at 100 mph. You know, so they can be free.”

Heck, why doesn’t she just strap the kids to the outside — so they can freely feel the wind blowing through their hair?

      • HeatherC says:

Well she can’t strap them. That would impede on their freedom. It will be a lesson in personal responsibility though because they’ll be expected to hang on for dear life.

    • Frida_K says:

      Exactly.

She sounds so condescending, and in a sugary-sweet way that makes it that much more offensive. She clearly thinks that she is laying down the good word, so philosophical, really parsing the living nature of the Constitution….and yet, her smug whiteness is blinding. And I’ll bet she’ll cry some white woman tears if she loses sponsorships or otherwise faces consequences of this smarmy pontificating.

I hope that Karma sends some bitchery to her that leaves her weeping in shame and anguish. No, really. I do.

      • Esmom says:

This, Frida. Holy effing hell, her condescension is unreal. As is her utter denseness. But for many people this disingenuous garbage is inspiring. I just can’t.

      • Noodle says:

        My takeaways:
        1. She has no idea what the constitution actually says;
        2. Apparently she has an epidemiologist on call, considering she has talked to “experts” about this;
        3. She does not know how to correctly use ‘whom’.

    • Traveler says:

      So well said!

  12. Tom says:

The day I look to a professional beach volleyball player for clarity on the intersection of Public Health and the Constitution is the day I dress up in nothing but a gold thong, alert the paps to meet me at Nobu, then stage a fight with Kendall Jenner.

It’s that level of brain dead.

  13. Lemons says:

What is so triggering about wearing a mask to these people?
    Benefits:

I have hyperpigmentation from acne so a mask let’s me go out without feeling the need to apply makeup.
I have two masks in cute styles so I get to coordinate my outfits with them.
Wearing a mask covers my mouth which means I don’t have to make any efforts to be extra nice to people I interact with.
I feel safer and don’t have people coughing all over me.

    Cons:
I wear glasses so if the mask isn’t adjusted, my glasses can fog up.
I always need to remember to bring it when I go for errands. Otherwise, you can face a hefty fine in France for not wearing once where required.

    • Jennifer says:

Yes! I’m a runner with melasma on my upper lip and I love any excuse to protect from further sun damage! 🙂

    • HoofRat says:

Plus, nobody tells me to smile (Grrr…..). Am I the only one who loves some of the creative masks people are wearing? Side note: I think we’ll get some awesome Halloween masks this year!

      • Grace says:

Me too! I don’t mind it either because of a) no makeup, b) no recognition c) no “where’s your smile?”, and d) cute fabric. It’s not that big of a deal. The ugliness of the United States has really been demonstrated during this pandemic. I guess it was always there, but not it’s front and center.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Put some extra ones in your purse so you will always have one. I also keep some of the blue paper ones in the pocket of my car door as well.

      • Lemons says:

I’ve tried to cut down on filling my purses with random things, but this is a suggestion I’ll take!

    • fluffy_bunny says:

Cute masks are the only items my husband isn’t giving me shit for buying. As a result I’ve got a ton of cute masks.

  14. Jerusha says:

I assume all these nutjobs are fine with abortion because “my body, my choice” and all that. What’s that you say? They’re anti-choice? @$&#%*€ hypocrites.

I’m fine with rushing a vaccine if they start around September 30 and the guinea pigs are all members of the trump family, including first cousins, second cousins, in-laws, and girl/boyfriends. EVERYBODY from age two to eighty-five. That way, if they start 9/30 and there are deleterious effects they’ll show up before 11/3.

    • emu says:

for a fair trial, a third of the trumps can do the vaccine, the second third can do the bleach, and the last third can do hydroxychloroquine

  15. eezer says:

real talk – the mask would improve things for her. she should embrace it.

  16. GuestWho says:

“…I know people are getting sick & many have gone to Heaven…” What the actual…

Many people are getting sick, suffering HORRIBLY, unable to see loved ones at the end, and dying alone and afraid in over-crowded hospitals, putting front line medical workers in danger, and she describes it like a f*cking 5 year old would.

    • Also Ali says:

That line got me, too. Just gross.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

She’s a nitwit, an airhead. They’re easily influenced.

    • lilitel says:

I’m appalled by the wording, too.
Those poor people didn’t “go to heaven” or hell or wherever.
They just suffered a horrible, painful, lonely, AVOIDABLE death.

    • HK9 says:

That right there. It’s ok if other people die, just as long as I get to do what I want. And she thinks this is ok. You have NO moral compass if this is your train of thought.

    • Traveler says:

“many have gone to heaven”……….what a condescending euphemism………..they DIED.
BTW, she needs to be reminded that people are not only dying horrible deaths, many others are facing a life with chronic, serious, residual effects.

  17. Other Renee says:

She lives in a beach town in Orange County, home of the maskless and stupid people, the ones who have protested beach closures and mask mandates.

I met a man in his early 40s recently who said he has no idea where he got covid but he did and it was two weeks of hell. Although he has “recovered,” he has been left with complications and suddenly is losing his hair and has prostrate issues, both of which he did not have pre-covid and both of which you would expect might happen to an older man, not a healthy man of his age. His doctor said he is not an isolated case of such complications.

So yeah, crazy biotch, some maskless idiot gave this man an illness that will likely have lifetime ramifications. What about HIS rights?

    • emu says:

ugh, what an insane virus. There are so many terrible outcomes it seems for so many people, why would anyone want to risk that?

  18. shanaynay says:

She;s a friggen moron. She needs to just STFU, and look herself in the mirror, and recognize what a moron she is.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Can’t — too successful in one narrow, non-intellectual slice of life — also too dumb.

  19. Mellie says:

I never got a churchy vibe from her. I always got a groovy, California, I love everyone type vibe….well damn…talk about me reading people wrong. Totally disappointed. Wear a Mother f$&@ing mask or stay home.! I just don’t understand these people. I really don’t. People are still dying. Every day.

  20. Leslie says:

Honestly, it’s a bummer realizing so many people I thought I liked (IRL too) are garbage.

  21. AnnaKist says:

How do you say “shut-the-fuck-up” in Stupidian?

  22. Mrs. Peel says:

You’re asked to simply wear a mask, not donate your kidney. Why can’t people grasp and abide by this concept.

  23. Tiffany says:

The Summer Games are in Japan.

So April just needs to start looking for another partner if the one she currently has is this idiotic and dangerous.

Also, who asked for this. Just because you can on social media doesn’t mean you should. Someone in that grocery store told her off and I would like to mail them a case of beer.

  24. Miss Margo says:

First of all, I’m noticing a lot of middle aged white woman going a bit “nutty” these days. That’s what I’m seeing, is this god fearing person going crazy. Her long winded posts don’t hide the fact that she is incredibly selfish and I hope she loses all her sponsors. Wear a mask and cover up that smug face FFS.

    • Darla says:

I’m a middle aged white woman, and I felt like I was going crazy when NY went into hard shut down. I was so isolated. But I facetimed with my BFF daily, took up meditation I got on a phone app, and watched Schitt’s Creek on constant repeat. That was March and April. Now I sometimes still get a bit overwhelmed and sometimes feel like I want to rewind the clock. My mind says NO! This can’t be happening! But it is. And so I move forward and I cope. I swear to God I believe this pandemic has highlighted who has coping skills and who does not. A lot of this acting out is fear and terror being turned outwardly into rage. They can’t cope. They have no coping skills. And that’s something to be ashamed of. In my book. I am going to make a tshirt for the end of the year: 2020 Came & I Coped With It, MF’er.

      • Case says:

“I swear to God I believe this pandemic has highlighted who has coping skills and who does not.” Wow, this is so true. I’d also add it has highlighted who is adaptable and who is not. To be honest, as someone who has dealt with anxiety for most of my life, I think that has been an asset during this time, because I already know what uplifts me, what calms me, and what makes me feel in control during out-of-control times. I’m one of the only people in my social circle who has been mostly fine just hanging out at home (I have good days and bad days, of course) and feels comfortable in my own company. So many people I know just NEEDED to go on vacation, or out to dinner, and I simply don’t feel that’s appropriate (for me) during a pandemic. I’ve adapted. I miss our old life as much as everyone else, but I’m really just…fine? Content? With life at the moment, and I credit that to years of learning to deal with general anxiety.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

I so appreciate your all being here and saying this. From the start, we decided to not use the word “fear” in any conversation about COVID because it’s led to a lot of people either trying to prove they’re “not afraid” or feeling bad because someone else called them “too afraid.” This is not a test to see who is a wussie!

I don’t even like the use of the word “uncomfortable,” as in, “We’ll understand if going out to dinner with your closest friends makes you *uncomfortable*.” What makes me “uncomfortable” is feeling pressured to do things I don’t want or need to do. It’s pressure to do things to help other people feel justified in their actions. (And I’m not talking about big risk-takers, but apparently now we’re splitting hairs between the delivery, curbside pickup, and in-store shopping people. This is silly!)

In the terrible 1918 flu pandemic, people were subject to public messaging that fear killed, and to ‘not be afraid.’ They died anyway. Healthy young people died in very large numbers.

        So here’s my deal:

First, fear is appropriate. This is nasty, potentially disabling-to-deadly virus that spreads in silence. Please do fear it and fear spreading it to other people.

Second, life in these conditions is hard enough – let people be comfortable and do what they think is right. Don’t assume they’re nervous nellies and for goodness’ sake, respect their judgment and support them in their choices.

Third, don’t assume that you understand risk better than they do. They may be quiet about personal medical information or a limiting disability or family situation that is none of your business.

Fourth, remember that just because you have found Activity X to “feel safe” or give you a feeling of “normal life,” doesn’t mean another person has to equally find Activity X to “feel safe” or have a feeling of “normal life.”

It’s possible we all have different interests, needs and risk profiles. Keep mum, show support, help people do what’s right for them if it’s the right thing generally (masking, distancing, outside). Above all, remember that if someone’s laying low and you’re not, they’re helping you stay well.

    • Lady Keller says:

It’s funny. I’m a 40 year old lady who would typically describe myself as a bit nutty. In general I feel like I suck at life and have poor coping skills. And yet, so far I’ve done well in this pandemic. I have 2 small kids, and I’m home schooling the older one while my 2 year old destroys my house. That really amps up the crazy some days, but overall our family unit is great. It definitely helps that I am an introvert by nature. And that I live in Canada so I haven’t had to worry about the fact that I lost my job back in March as I’m still getting unemployed benefits while being able to stay home and care for my kids and parents.

My own situation aside, there is clearly a certain type of privileged white lady crazy that seems to be fomenting at the moment. Some people are so used to being the center of the universe that they feel the need to rebel when they’re asked to take a step back to help out the more vulnerable in their society. I can practically hear them screaming “what about MEEEE”

    • Mellie says:

I’m a middle-aged woman too….but I’m a bit of an introvert so I really think that has helped me cope more than most. Plus, I’m a rule follower so I have no problems following any sort of rules or guidelines set forth. My extrovert husband has struggled with the social part. But we both exercise and love the outdoors so we’ve taken a lot of long runs on the trails and that has seemed to help. We wear a buff around our neck, when we see people we get far off the trail, pull the buff up around our face and get the F#$k out of the way…you know, how hard is it to be considerate? I’ve found that most people that I see are following the rules and I’m really trying hard not to be the mask police so I just stay home 90% of the time. I don’t have kids in school, only one left in college (not in our town, in another town) and I’m fairly certain she’s following the rules (I hope she is anyway, I’ve nagged her enough about it…her college doesn’t seem to be having the problems that we are here).
But, we do live in a college town and some of these kids are so selfish, it’s frustrating. I used to work for the college and I’m so glad I no longer do so….it’s the parents that are the worst, they stick up for them. Of course, they aren’t living here in the town where their kids are parading about maskless and partying like idiots. Those kids will spread it to the professors and support staff, who will then spread it to their families and then we’ll never get back to any kind of normalcy in this town….but then the kids and their parents cry out “we want them to have the normal college experience”…cry me a river, go play beer pong at home in your own yard, selfish brats.

  25. Léna says:

I’m currently in a train in France, because I have to go back to my parents house. We are all supposed to wear masks. Well, I guess a lady decided to not wear one and refused to put on one when asked to. We are now 30min late because we had to wait for the police to show up. I’m tired of those selfish bastards

    • ME says:

Hey at least someone called the police and took care of it. There are places where no one cares and the woman would just be let on the train without a mask.

  26. Paperclip says:

“I hate it when people are this f–king disappointing.”

Fricking 2020 in a nutshell right there.

  27. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Why can’t these people get sick already. I’m tired of wearing a mask for them.

  28. Lisa says:

    So disappointed.

  29. Miss b says:

Excited for her next move: the shirtless, shoeless march on 7-11

    • Case says:

Right? Can’t believe how many people can’t make the connection. Or how many people fail to realize if they truly feel their freedom is taken away by being asked to protect their fellow shoppers with a mask, they can *GASP* order online or do curbside pickup.

  30. Enis says:

The simple (and correct) answer here is wear a mask and write letters to your governmental representatives if you disagree with their decisions. This isn’t rocket science.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

That level of basic reasoning is, for someone like that, the equivalent of rocket science.

  31. Lady Keller says:

I live in a city that has a mask mandate. It seems like the last few times I have gone out shopping there are multiple people in the stores going maskless and no one is enforcing it. Also, both times someone has been right behind me at the till, clearly ignoring the social distance markers. It’s great that we’ve abandoned reason right as school has started and cases are going to sky rocket and we are heading Into cold and flu season. SMH at the callousness of people.

    • Sam the Pink says:

It’s not being enforced because the maskless populace is prone to getting violent if you dare to ask them to wear one. I have family in retail and the message is that if a person is maskless, either 1.) leave them be or 2.) ask them nicely but if they get aggressive, leave them be.

Our retail workers do not make enough money to risk their physical well being to get into a tussle with some idiot. There have been people shot over this mess.

    • nb says:

Same. For the most part people in my city are really good about masks (we also have a mandate) but there’s always those few people who think rules don’t apply to them. I can’t say I blame stores for not enforcing it even if they do have a mask policy. After seeing news stories about employees getting spit on, beat up, screamed at, or even shot and killed why would they? The world is a scary place right now and they’re just trying to do their jobs, not get assaulted on a daily basis by selfish people.

It’s sad that wearing a mask has become such a political issue when really it’s a human issue – just wear one to protect other people and yourself, it’s pretty simple. So many people want to make it about ‘left’ vs. ‘right’ or ‘it’s infringing on my rights’ and it’s so sad. I work with a huge MAGA supporter who had it early on and now he thinks he’s bullet proof because he can ‘never ever get it again’ and everyone else is dumb for wearing masks because ‘it’s not any worse than the flu’ and ‘the CDC keeps lying about the numbers’. No one else I work with has any issues simply wearing a mask and washing their hands when they walk into our office except for him and it’s like dealing with a small child every time. Sounds like he’d have a lot to talk about with Kerri here. Major eye roll.

  32. Onomo says:

Yuck. Just yuck. She really thinks she is doing the world a public service by informing us about the constitutional rights and that she is the one being respectful.

It’s so extremely rich white woman of her – she who isn’t working with others, she who can order her groceries delivered and is “offended” from the one time she went into a store and wasn’t wearing a mask and someone yelled at her.

Her quote about consent doesn’t even make sense.

People like her probably believe that if we all did what she did – got 9 hours of sleep with the sun going down, woke to do healthy invigorating exercise for 2 hours a day, ate fresh fruits and vegetables from our gardens, worked with holistic doctors to find our center, and healed in nature – that we would all be fine, just fine, and healthier too, and we wouldn’t need to wear masks or fear this virus.

Why can’t we all be like her – ignoring racism, homelessness, lack of affordable food and jobs, and focusing on peace, love and light, and the fight for true freedom and what is right – our right not to wear a mask, as guaranteed per the constitution, the real thing that protects us all./heavy sarcasm in case my yuck at the start didn’t give it away

  33. Izzy says:

When I hear crap like this from Covidiots like her, I end up hoping that they’re the one who ends up on a ventilator and not someone else who was infected because of their stupidity. And you know what? NOT SORRY.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Same Izzy… but some days, when I’m really down, I would deny them the ventilator and let them “go to heaven”. And I am NOT sorry. If they make this “personal freedom” choice, then let them pay the price. In EVERY way. Sign a waiver to be denied Covid Care from any Dr./Hospital, taking it away from some person who got it because of YOU and your ilk.

  34. YAS says:

Honestly, I’m still doing the equivalent of sheltering in place (getting my groceries delivered, ordering anything I need online if I can, etc. etc.) and it’s because of people like this. In a pandemic, you’re only as strong and as safe as your weakest link. Unfortunately, we seem to have a lot of mentally weak links.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Same here. The ONLY place I go is out to the pharmacy I have to use (due to ins.) because they don’t deliver. So once a month, I’m outside for 1/2 hr. And I’m STILL shocked at seeing people w/out masks, or with it on but under their noses!!! WTF!?

  35. sassafras says:

FYI, I saw someone on Twitter pointing out Brett Favre liking her post.

Here’s my response to the mask-less idiots:

Do you park in handicapped spots? There are hundreds of thousands of unused handicapped spots at any given moment. They’re in the most convenient places. It’s not fair for them to just sit there when no one needs them. Why, that’s restricting your liberty to park wherever you want!

But we don’t park in them, because we as a society have decided it’s kinder to leave them open JUST IN CASE someone needs them. It’s a minor inconvenience for a healthy bodied person to walk an extra twenty feet. It could be the difference between – dare I say it – Freedom and restriction for a mobility-impaired or sick person.

Have a heart. Think of someone besides yourself. It’s not about you this time.

  39. SomeChick says:

I just saw a “Travel South Dakota” ad in the popup! Are they targeting anti-maskers?!

It has been projected that 250,000 cases will likely link back to the Sturgis motorcycle festival. Bring on the anti-maskers!

    • MerlinsMom1018 says:

      @SomeChick
I have followed the Sturgis page for quite a while now and there was a guy on there who actually came out and admitted he had the virus and just wanted to let whoever he came into contact with there that he was sorry and they should be tested immediately
“whoever I came into contact with”
Ummmmm you twatwaffle, that’s over 250,000 people. Now. Multiply THAT number by all those people coming in contact with other people and so on and so on…
Reminds me of the movie Outbreak which came out in 1995 and then there’s Contagion which came out in 2011
I recommend both because we’re living it now

  40. candy says:

It’s okay if you’re social distancing, but it’s usually the same maskless idiots that stand 2 inches behind you in the checkout line at the grocery store. It’s like they’re relishing this unique form of passive aggressive. I wear a mask at all times in public. No.1 I’ve always had a terrible reaction to the flu so I expect COVID would be worse. No. 2 someone in my immediate family is very high risk. This disease compounded by trump is really bringing out the worst in people.

  41. Sunshine says:

You would be amazed at how many grown petiole believe in these conspiracy theories.

  42. Miranda says:

It’s called common f-cking courtesy, you entitled brat. Stop acting like a petulant toddler and wear the goddamn mask. If you’re so eager to die, do that on your own time. The rest of us are trying to protect our elderly parents, and our kids with compromised immune systems, and our health care workers who you’ll come crawling to for help when you inevitably get sick, and our teachers who are putting their asses on the line to ensure that your kids don’t grow up to be as selfish and stupid as you are.

  43. KK2 says:

Her post doesn’t even make sense. I don’t know what she is advocating here. It’s a bunch of rambling about, I guess, how brave she was to go into a store without a mask once. A real freedom fighter.

  44. fluffy_bunny says:

You’ve got a constitutional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Your liberty does not supersede my right to life so put a fucking mask on. Or stay the fuck home.

  45. Valerie says:

Riiight, cool. It’s always the ones who speak of empowerment and the uplifting of others who care the least about the people around them. Their actions never match their words.

  46. JRenee says:

So many others like her and so the shit show continues..

  47. Grumpy Goat says:

I wonder if she wears a seat belt while driving or shirts and shoes in stores? Does she think those rules/laws are against her constitutional rights as well? Unbearable asshat.

  48. Eve says:

I wish they would broadcast on TV all the people who were so against the mask who are not in the hospital fighting for their lives.
Some of them made video begging people to wear their mask.
They really want to get their message to the people.

  49. RedWeatherTiger says:

Well, but, as long as they go to her belief system’s HEAVEN, then really, is death even all that bad anyway?

What a vile person she is. I feel sorry for her poor children, and I am interested in boycotting any product she is paid to endorse.

  50. Annaloo. says:

Does she think it’s my “Constitutional right” to light up a cigarette and smoke around her? Let her breathe my deadly fumes, to hell that she’s an athlete or wants to breathe clean air. IT’S MY RIGHT according to her logic!

  51. holly hobby says:

Did this idiot listen to the Woodward tapes from that idiot in chief? She should. She’s been played. I hope she loses all her endorsements.

  52. kerwood says:

Then let her go without a mask. When she and her family (and any friends they come into contact with), they’ll be able to afford decent health care, unlike the thousands of Black/Brown/Indigenous people who died alone and afraid. They didn’t magically ascend to heaven, they died in pain and terror.

If there’s anything positive about this nightmare (and the three years that preceded it) is that the monsters are taking off their masks and we know who they are.

  53. suresweetheart says:

white girl, you just want one more privilege in your life because following the rules feels like oppression to you. sit the hell down.

  54. Marni112 says:

Idiot is too kind a description- moron is better suited. Her “rights” might kill others but clearly she hasn’t the brains to think that through or doesn’t care.

  55. Mina_Esq says:

This makes me so upset. Trump’s running around trying to suppress votes, and these dumbasses are complaining about being asked to wear a simple non-medical mask. Agh! Talk about privilege.

  56. Don't Trust the B in Comment 23 says:

Chadwick Boseman was terminally ill of colon cancer. Not only did no one outside his inner circle know of this on-going tragedy, he never complained and performed his job marvellously, without complaint, with the strength of a real warrior, with the courage of a true king, with the heart of a true man. He showed us the rarely seen good face of humankind. All this while going thru chemo and who knows what else that comes with having, again, colon cancer.

In other words: WEAR THE F-CKING MASK, YOU WHINING LITTLE PIECES OF UTTER SHITE.

  57. Sam says:

See, if masks protected the user and not those around around…the same people crying FREEDOM would be strapping 10 to their face.

  58. JillyBean says:

    Another day. Another Karen….

2020 is the year of the Karenite Uprisings

  59. Züri says:

Jen Kessy’s response to KWJ’s idiotic post is golden:

“You have traveled the world enough to know what freedom is and isn’t. I played you in the finals of a tournament in Dubai. Women were not even allowed in the stadium, show their face in public, and so many other atrocities we can’t even begin to imagine. That isn’t FREEDOM. Just to be wearing a mask isn’t taking your freedom.”
