The Walking Dead series will soon be ending, but do not fret. Walking Dead is slated to air its last season in 2022 so there are still two more years left of zombies and kick assery. In Walking Dead fashion, where nothing ever really dies, there are two spin-off series in the works. Most notably a Carol and Daryl spin-off is happening. It’s rumored to be bringing back some of the much loved characters who died in the last few seasons of the show. Entertainment Weekly has the story:
The Walking Dead will conclude in late 2022 after an expanded season 11 that will feature 24 episodes, including the COVID-delayed Oct. 4 season 10 finale, as well as six season 10 bonus episodes that will air in early 2021. That means there are 31 episodes of the show to air before signing off!
But there is still plenty more TWD to come. Not only is the franchise’s third scripted series, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, set to debut on Oct. 4 (along with season 6 of Fear the Walking Dead premiering a week later), but the cable channel also announced the creation of two new series, one of which features the fan favorites that have been with the show from the very beginning.
While Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier joked at the start of season 10 about riding off into the sunset on Daryl’s motorcycle, instead they will be riding off onto a brand new series. AMC has greenlit a TWD spin-off focused on Norman Reedus’ Daryl and Melissa McBride’s Carol to debut in 2023. The show was created by Walking Dead chief content officer Scott M. Gimple and current TWD showrunner Angela Kang, who will act as showrunner on the new series.
And that’s not all. Gimple will also be developing another new series titled Tales of the Walking Dead, which is described as “an episodic anthology with individual episodes or arcs of episodes focused on new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences.” That means characters who perished in The Walking Dead universe could come back to life and be seen at some point before they met an untimely demise, and perhaps even before we met them on the show.
I wasn’t a FANGIRL of the series but I truly enjoyed Walking Dead. I actually stopped watching it when one of my faves was killed off in a horrific way in season six and I was traumatized ya’ll. I need to catch up with the show. I will say I am excited about these spin-offs as I personally can’t get enough of apocalyptic and dystopian TV Shows. Perhaps it is because I am bit morbid in that way.
Carol and Daryl were forgettable characters for me in the series. My focus was mostly on Michonne played by Danai Gurira (she brought me to the show), Glenn Rhee played by Steven Yuen, and Rick Grimes played by Andrew Lincoln. I even liked Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s sexy diabolical self. I know I know he was evil and he in fact killed one of my faves but I just love seeing him wherever he may land.
Anyhow, I think I may need to go back and watch the last few seasons to see Carol and Daryl’s arc and know what to expect of the spin-off. I do hope that some of my faves will come back.

I love Daryl but Carol p*sses me off with her constant illogical decisions which put everyone in danger. She used to be a badass seasons ago but turned into a whiny, self-centered Karen.

I will 100% tune in for that spin off, and it’s the first time I’ve been excited about the Walking Dead since 2015.
I remember when the First Season was maybe what six or maybe eight episodes and I didn’t know it because I didn’t look at the DVD box and I was binge watching them on a deployment and was pissed the final episode was the final episode and I had to wait forever for the next season. It was amazing television to me at the time. And I love the zombie genre.
I enjoyed the Second Season even with its flaws and even tried my best to watch it in real time as it aired, which is hard due to my attention span. But it still had it. I think they lost my attention somewhere in Season Three or Four (I don’t even really know anymore). I was there for most, if not all of the Prison/Governor stories and some of the after. I’ve sporadically gone back here and there, checking in on my old friends. But the departure of certain characters sealed its fate for me.
And then they lost me for good with Season Six (?) And I think mostly it was due to the over the top marketing for Negan all freaking summer. Which is disappointing because I really love JDM as an actor. I really wanted back in at that point. It wasn’t even the special effects, it was just too gimmicky at that point.
For me, it’s just dragged on and there never seemed to be a show story end goal. Maybe there is now, but it wasn’t something I’ve ever picked up on. So, now that the story is ending maybe I’ll start tuning in. I do want something hopeful but realistic for those characters who survived. Or they all just need to go out on a blaze of glory in a nihilistic fashion to drive home that we do the best we can with the time we have but ultimately we don’t have control but we need to do what we can while we are here.
Considering the world we live in now…the second one is artistically the better ending for me.
If the character kill-off in Season 6 is the same one I’m thinking of Oya, they were also one of my favourite characters and it was SO horrific how they did that. I’ve not watched it for many seasons at this point because it all got a bit samey, but that scene will be in my mind forever unfortunately. I’m great with gore but that was just *shudders*.
I could be back for a spin-off, especially for the Tales of TWD show, that sounds cool.
If Jeffrey Dean Morgan was involved then yes. I stopped watching after that. It was like the Red Wedding in GoT. It took me a full season to forgive that show to come back, Then Season 8 made me want to burn HBO studios down.
I ceased to care about any of these people several seasons ago and started rooting for the zombies. That’s when I knew it was time to let it go.

If we’re thinking about the same S6 death (I’m sure we are), yeah, that pretty much ended the show for me. My heart wasn’t in it after that. It was just so brutal and heartbreaking and just…hopeless, after that. I hung on the rest of that season and quit for the next one.
I think TWD has always suffered from too-long seasons. The storytelling needed to be tighter every single season (except for the first one) and would’ve benefited from being limited to 10 episodes a season. There were so many episodes where barely anything happened and it felt like they were just stalling as to not catch up with the comic book storyline too quickly, lol.
I used to watch the show religiously but when Andrew Lincoln left, I was done. I was already getting tired of the long, drawn out storylines and I’ll never get over losing Glenn. I’ll admit that the idea of an anthology type of spinoff is interesting to me. Consuming shorter stories is much more my style these days.
I’ve lost interest in this series over the last 2 seasons and I have no desire to see a Carol/Daryl spin off. This series doesn’t know when to gracefully fade into the sunset.

I got into this very late but I was all in. Negan’s brutality was over the top.. will never forgive what was done to Glenn and Abraham.. When Carl met his fate I was done. It was too gruesome.
