Should Parliament ‘strip’ the ‘Duke & Duchess of Sussex’ titles from Harry & Meghan?

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex attend the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on November 09, 2019 in London, England.

As soon as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their one-two punch, the Netflix deal and the repayment for renovations on Frogmore Cottage, all of the spiteful royal commentators seamlessly shifted the goalposts all at once. Think about how many goalposts have already been shifted just this year: the Sussexes can’t use “Sussex Royal” branding on anything; they can’t use their “HRH” styles; they had pay back the Frogmore reno even though it was a gift; they were badgered out of the country and gaslighted about the racist abuse; they were told to fend for themselves and when they made deals to support themselves financially, they were criticized for it. And on and on. Now, of course, the new goalpost is “the Sussexes should lose their titles.” Piers Morgan has been “advocating” for that for some time. And now MPs are talking about it too.

Henry Smith, the Tory MP for Crawley in West Sussex, has been asked to establish whether other politicians would support a motion to rescind the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of their royal titles. A constituent has written to the MP and accused the royal couple of “bringing the country and the monarchy into disrepute” and by abusing their royal links. David Probett, a retired employee of Natwest Bank, has written to his MP concerning Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

The letter, which he shared on his Twitter account, reads: “Dear Mr Smith, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (aka Prince Harry And Megan Markle). Shortly before the marriage, Her Majesty the Queen granted the couple the couple the titles of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The couple have flagrantly abused the use of their titles by their various well-publicised activities and antics. I understand that HM The Queen is unable to rescind these titles; only Parliament can do that.

“As one of the Members of parliament for the County of Sussex, may I suggest that you consider sounding out your colleagues to see if there is any support for Parliament to act to remove the titles from this couple. Alternatively, you might care to do the country a favour by introducing a motion yourself. I feel that the actions of the couple have brought disrepute to the country and to the monarchy and it is time to bring the whole sorry charade to a close.”

[From The Daily Express]

Awesome, now do the Duke of York. You remember him? His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, who profited from his royal titles with shady business deals with murderers and pedophiles, the same man who raped and abused victims of human trafficking, victims trafficked to him by Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted rapist pedophile? The same Duke of York who showed zero concern for Epstein’s victims and refuses to answer the FBI’s requests for questioning? The same Duke of York who lives on the public dime at the Royal Lodge and “stepped away” from royal work but still retains all of his military titles too? But sure, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be stripped of their Sussex titles because… Harry married a biracial American and they made a smart deal with Netflix.

The BRF make terrible decisions but I doubt they’ll go this far. If it makes it into parliament, they’re going to want a good reason other than “they have a Netflix deal!”. Not to mention, parliament is a bit preoccupied at the moment. And even if they do manage to strip their titles, that same parliament might go “You know what? Andrew isn’t a working royal anymore, let’s strip his title too!”. Which is something I doubt mummy would approve.

And it can go even further with parliament saying “Beatrice and Eugenie aren’t working royals so why do they have a HRH?” It’ll just snowball into something beyond the Sussexes.

And even if they do, they can’t take Harry’s Prince title away so they can just style themselves “Prince and Princess Henry”. And I don’t think the Sussexes will be too fussed about titles long term wise.

    • Alexandrajane says:

Totally agree. Also I really doubt Charles would let it progress that far.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Not sure if the courtiers and petty WAPs of the RF are that smart. They might just be blinded by spite and let it happen. Then people will ask why paedrew kept his. Then his daughters. Then the racist Kents and so on till the house of cards come crumbling down. Harry and Meghan will simply turn the lemons of ‘losing’ their titles into every lemon product conceivable!

      • Sofia says:

They’re dumb, like I said, but only about the things they can control. But if they take it to parliament, it’s out of the BRF’s hands which means they can’t really control the outcome – unless they’re prepared to bribe MPs

    • PEARL GREY says:

The price the public want Meghan to pay for marrying their beloved prince and tainting their pure monarchy with her non-white, foreign DNA will never satisfy them. They didn’t want them to marry and they didn’t want Archie to be conceived and successfully brought to full term. The only thing that will make some people happy now is if they divorce. The media will continue to stoke the flames of racism, xenophobia, classism and Harry fangirl jealousies to make their money, so they will continue to demand they be stripped, punished, reprimanded and anything else they can think of while they push the goal post back constantly to generate as many headlines as they can to save their flailing trash rags

As for the titles, in case anyone hadn’t realised by now, Harry and Meghan don’t need them and never did. People around the world are searching for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, not the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They have long surpassed those titles as a couple and as individuals. The likes of Piers can cry for it to be taken away if he wants, but the interest, lucrative deals, opportunities and successes will still come.

Let them continue to try to justify their silence on removing the title from the accused abuser of trafficked girls, His Royal Highness Prince Andrew the Duke of York, who continues to enjoy taxpayer funded security and the protection of the monarchy and MPs

      • Sarah says:

I referred to them as D&D of S to my boyfriend a while back and had ‘who?’ in response. We live in the UK.

      • Lemons says:

Can you imagine how much their value would sky rocket if they took away their royal titles for what we can all see as no good reason? People will be throwing them money, inviting them to political events. Other royal families will make a show of inviting them to their state dinners…The BRF is not liked or beloved and the world will make them feel that.

On another note, these politicians are always showing their a88es. Your country is in shambles and the only petition or motions you have drafted and shared with the press are about taking away titles from people who don’t even live near you? Wear a mask and go home.

      • CN says:

Exactly @Lemons, what the Markles, British media/RRs, royal family and any of the British public have failed to understand is that every low blow, all the racist behavior, all the yelling, all the mud slinging is accomplishing the exact opposite of what was intended.

They are turning the Sussexes into a larger than life fairy tale couple. They are always going to have people in their corner because they are rightly seen as weathering an avalanche of unwarranted attacks.

Also the very people yelling the loudest about how they want nothing to do with them are the very ones who cannot keep their eyes off them.

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, and it’s racism, racism, racism!

        History will judge them!

      • Thinking says:

Everyone is enjoying this because how tacky can they get. It is the gift that keeps on giving. First they move to LA and then sign up with Hollywood. The British love this. The Royals are expected to live to a certain standard and when they dont then they are just normal and everyday and then the average Brit looks down on them. The Royal Family is going to keep trying to distance themselves from them. …..get them to leave the fold completely. They pretend like they care they left but really they want them as far as possible now. They dont like ‘vulgar’ which is what they consider everyday normal people to be.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

@thinking if they consider regular folks and now H/M as vulgar, I guess it’s a step up from EVIL, don’t you think?

      • Kalana says:

@Thinking. If Meghan and Harry are so vulgar, why are the royals copying them? And if Hollywood is tacky, why is William a patron of BAFTA? Why did William and Kate invent a reason to go to California and party with celebs?

    • Bibi says:

      I think that man from
sussex county got paid to get this letter to parliament and I think someone someone like a gatekeeper bribed him to do it because they can’t read the room properly and want to have a feel of what the critics would say. I dont think parliament can give time and energy to this kind of issue when clearly covid is such a larger issue. Britain just cant see how small they are getting by the day being so petty. It’s so awful.

    • anotherlily says:

The only precedent for this is treason. Prior to WW1 there were numerous foreign born aristocrats with HRH status and British peerdoms. An Act of 1917 and Letters Patent from the King removed British titles from those accused of supporting Britain’s enemies.

America is not Britain’s enemy and post-Brexit Britain will need a strong relationship with America. It is an advantage to have an Anglo-American branch of the Royal Family.

    • CC says:

Yup and then it will be, why not get rid of the monarchy. That’s a pandora box they dont want open

    • ola says:

The Queen has no legal way to stop it if Parliament decides to rescind the titles. Charles has no say in that, too. It may not look like that from the US perspective but the monarchy is on the line here.
In reality, with Covid-19 and NoDeal Brexit, there is an urgent need to create a distraction. This is also a nod to Daily Mail and their other narrow-minded readers. You don’t ignore 15+ million voters.

    • clomo says:

In a world where Scott Disick can become a lord the son of the soon to be King Of England can be a prince.

  2. Sandy says:

Let them do it. Let those crusty jealous spiteful POS people (you KNOW other royals are behind it) do it. All they are doing is hanging themselves, because once you start down this road, you’re not going back. Others with lose their precious titles on the whim of public favour, slanted by the press.
Yea go for it, piers and Co. Harry and Meghan won’t care in the long run. Well , Harry might – he’s grown up as a royal. I feel bad for him – this Judasesque backstabbing by his own family is the worst betrayal ever.

    • anotherlily says:

Archie has legal rights in this. He cannot be removed from his place in the line of succession unless he becomes a Roman Catholic. He also has a legal right to inherit the dukedom of Sussex.

      • JJ says:

When are people going to decide enough is enough with this arbitrary royal nonsense? Pedophilia and sexual assault – fine. Catholicism – hard no.

  3. MissM says:

And then do prince and princess michael of kent, duchess fergie, princess eugenie and princess beatrice and many many other titled individuals who earn money privately

    • Belli says:

The aristocracy would fight HARD against setting a precedent for titles being removed for petty reasons. And that would extend into the House of Lords and the Tory party. They’re all about entrenched inequality passed down through generations.

But hey. I’d almost like to see the fallout if the Sussex titles got taken away and the people campaigning for it realised that they had to be referred to as Prince Harry and Princess Meghan and there’s nothing they can do to take that one away…

      • Tia says:

Legally it would be Prince and Princess Henry (like Princess Michael). Only blood Princesses technically get Princess ‘First Name’ (Diana was technically never Princess Diana, she was HRH the Princess of Wales before her divorce and Diana, Princess of Wales afterwards).

I think the whole idea is ridiculous. Most of the minor Royals plus some if not all of the Queen’s children / grandchildren have been cashing in on their titles for years. If they are going to start stripping titles, let’s start with Andrew and Fergie.

  4. Cerceau says:

Wow. Even Edward and Wallis kept their Duke and Duchess titles, and they were treasonous Nazis.

  5. Alexandria says:

I would like to see them try.

As a Commonwealth member state resident, I would like to inform that Petty Betty and Prince Andrew are the ones bringing disrepute to the UK and I will never set foot onto the UK. Good riddance. You cannot even negotiate Brexit and you want to raise this stupid issue.

    • Tris says:

      Here here!

    • Liz version 700 says:

Also, there is no way Petty Charles would allow Either of his sons to be stripped of a title. It would be a direct insult to him and his line. His Kingly sized ego would never let that happen. Irregardless of how he feels about Sussexit

    • rosie says:

Happy to have your negativity never in the UK.
It is all so silly, who in the UK besides those who read rubbish actually believe these two should have their titles stripped? You have a lot of opinions about a nation you don’t live in, Try expanding your views and conversing with a person from the Nation in which you natter on about.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

People are allowed to let off steam sometimes, no need to take it personally. Also, after all the reprehensible acts the British government pulled over the centuries with regards to the CW countries, who better to berate Britain? Perhaps if we all stopped this knee jerk reaction to criticism of our various countries, we would instead focus more effort on improving them and thereby improving the world.

      • Liz version 700 says:

For the record I spent 6 months living in the UK and touring Europe. I loved the people I met, but they were Working class/middle class folks like me. But the royals have shown themselves to be an obnoxious bunch. However, even if I never set foot out of the US my opinion and everyone else’s opinions are just as valid as yours Rosie so with all due respect sod off.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

Rosie, I’m London born and bred, there are a LOT of people here in the U.K. that has this mindset and I myself know a few, they think Harry and Meghan should be stripped of everything inc paying for their own security and that Andrew is innocent as in their view his victim was over the age of consent in the U.K. Let’s not pretend nobody reads the sun or the daily mail here, they are our biggest selling ‘newspapers’ and if you spend one morning watching various channels you will hear the truth of what Britain thinks of Meghan, she has a few supporters fighting her corner but most think she has behaved badly! I think it’s justified that our American friends here on celebitchy are upset, seeing the unjust treatment of a fellow American who has done absolutely nothing wrong is upsetting, the marriage of Harry and Meghan was a sign of change but absolutely nothing has changed, this marriage has highlighted a lot of things wrong with this country and how people are showing their racism by being petty about foolishness!
Oh and Brexit is a shit show and we are heading to hell on a fast train- this country is the pits right now!

      • Tealie says:

Rosie is hurt by the truth Britan is a tremendously racist and xenophobic country and it’s eating them alive and they couldn’t be more deserving.

      • Becks1 says:

Except you have a comment from above about how Parliament is going to have to consider this as a distraction from brexit and as a nod to the “15 million readers” of the daily mail. So its clearly not as simple as “the british people don’t care.”

  6. chicken tetrazzini! says:

What an odd thing to get hung up on at this moment in time

    • Mumbles says:

Agreed, but I count one MP and one freaky crank in this story. Based on the apathy that the vast majority of the U.K. public has toward all of the RF, I’d suspect this goes nowhere. People are more worried about their economic condition and their health, as they should be.

      • Babsorig says:

I am appalled that there’s even ONE MP and ONE FREAKY CRANK deciding that of all hills to die on, this would be the most appropriate. I’m just shaking my head at all the bizarre things coming out of England at this point (note that I said England and not Britain/UK).I mean sure, go for it I guess, LOL 🙂

    • Merricat says:

This is sheer idiocy, and a waste of time and money, to boot–and it’s no surprise that Piers Morgan is an “advocate.” It’s been difficult to watch a nation once known for civility descend into a gutter-fight over racism.

  7. Becks1 says:

So I know this is an idea that gets a lot of traction on twitter, but is any MP seriously talking about this? All I see here is that someone wrote to their representative and is asking them to look into it. I would assume that most MPs would get a letter like that and just laugh, right?

To me this is ridiculous for two reasons – one, I feel like Parliament has enough to deal with right now, between Brexit and the pandemic. And two, this IS a waste of time because its not going to happen, because of the precedent it would set. Andrew would lose his title, the York princesses would lose HRH, heck, it might even trickle down to Charlotte and Louis, who weren’t entitled to HRH anyway until the Queen changed things before George was born. I mean ,maybe someone will decide that the whole idea of “HRH” and calling someone “your royal highness” is just stupid.

And that doesn’t even get into all the other people who are titled who work and earn money.

    • Merricat says:

      Yes, exactly.

    • CJ says:

God I hope no MPs are giving this any time – we have a beyond massive issue with the Brexit withdrawal agreement going on right now, COVID’s potential second wave, massive unemployment and more to come as the furlough scheme ends.

If any MPs think this is important enough to bring before parliament right now then they deserve to be stripped of their position as they clearly have no sense of priority.

  8. Talie says:

At this point, it would just make them more popular, so hey…if Britain wants to keep wasting time on dumb stuff like this, let them. You know, it’s not like Parliament doesn’t have so many more important things to worry about right now!

This is just part of moving the goalposts – Lainey said this yesterday. It caught the British press off guard how fast Harry and Meghan are moving so now they need a new thing to beat them with.

    • Britt says:

Yep especially to your last point and everyone can see their foolishness at this point. Harry paying that money back was the true wake up call. You had Richard Kay practically crying. It’s done and taking their titles is not punishing them because they’ll be fine. It’s the media and that family that will suffer because the interest, money and attention is not same anymore.

  9. Faye says:

Let them. Prince Harry and Meghan will be just fine without those titles of Duke and Duchess.

The titles didn’t make people more interested in them, look at how some folks call the others boring, it is their personalities and the way they get things done.

The UK folks really just love revealing how not smart they really are.

  10. Lucylee says:

For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. Stripping them of titles because of their marriage is not going to salvage the monarchy. QE has never put a foot wrong that that is the problem. She doesn’t represent anything of substance. The RF are antique porcelain dolls that are dragged out for people to admire every season. Wind them up and they talk. They put on their doll clothes for public outings and then go back in their display cases (palaces) until the next time.

  11. RoyalBlue says:

Gosh the country that brought slavery to the western hemisphere is still behaving like they are on the plantation. and yes, i am generalizing the whole country because that is the public voice that is being projected. where are the dissenting views and public outcry at this shameful double standard. is it only on a few blogs? is there no free press for the left?

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

@RoyalBlue What are you on about? The Spanish, Scandinavians and Arabs were at it long before we got started.

      • RoyalBlue says:

oh stop with the whataboutisms. The British perfected the transatlantic slave trade to a fine art and to this day will not accept responsibility for it and still act like they are on the bloody plantation.

      • Tealie says:

@Royalblue Cool lmao! I don’t know what difference is you think that makes. Ted Bundy wasn’t the first serial killer, 911 wasn’t the first terrorist attack??

  12. Deanne says:

The level of spite and pettiness directed at this couple is unbelievable. I can’t imagine that Charles would ever allow this to happen, but if it did, I’d hope that all bets would be off and they’d be ready to really spill some tea. At that point what would they have to lose?

    • Bev says:

Can we in any way say anything about Charles not allowing anything to happen? That man has done absolutely nothing and allowed everything so far to happen. He’s even actively briefed against them. I wouldn’t count on him lifting a finger tbh.

      • Becks1 says:

I would agree with this, except for the excellent point someone raised above – it would be a direct insult to Charles, as future king (or king when/if it actually happens), for one of his sons to be stripped of their title. He will fight it behind the scenes for that reason.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

I agree that Charles is a coward who would never step in to stop anything for H/M sake. He was silently taking credit for financially supporting them all this time when he was not. He only protects himself and I actually believe the only reason he protects Camilla is because of how she affects him and his future reign. Such a spineless human.

I actually wouldn’t mind if this goes forward and they actually succeed of removing their titles. I have a strong feeling that stripping them of their titles will be the straw that breaks that camel call Harry’s back, not to mention the world.

      • Feeshalori says:

I think Charles would also fight tooth and nail for Harry to keep his title especially if his brother Andrew keeps his. Those brothers hate each other. I think that’s the hill Charles would choose to die on.

  13. Gobo says:

Not gonna happen. If Parliament were to revoke titles readily granted by the Queen of England then it would make for poor relations between them. She may be a figurehead but she could still make her displeasure felt. It would also set an uncomfortable precedent. If Harry and Meghan go first, then who next?

    • lanne says:

The entire House of Lords, for one! Why should people be allowed to play a role in the governing of the country based on who their great great grandfather was?

      • Gobo says:

I fully agree, but this is why it will not happen. For the record I am not pro British Aristocracy, or Monarchy.

    • Feeshalori says:

This should be very interesting then to see how the dominoes will fall if Parliament revokes HM’s titles. That would definitely throw the cat among the canaries for sure in the entire structure! As someone mentioned in another thread (Lanne?) the RF should have just owned up to their racism from the beginning and refused Harry the marriage at the start. If he left anyway to marry Meghan, he wouldn’t have been given a title, a costly wedding, a badly in need of renovation home and none of this fallout would taken place.

  14. Osty says:

If those clowns want to be taken seriously then they should come up with a better reason than ” they got a deal with Netflix, left uk , said they wont be senior royals etc ” . I hope the person who sent this get an email telling him how foolish he is

  15. Elizabeth Regina says:

I actually want them to. That way Meghan will be called Princess Henry of Wales. Are people too thick to recognise that all that hatred and vitriol is actually making Harry and Meghan bankable? Plus they don’t need those titles. They have already superseded royalty to become THE brand!!

    • Liz version 700 says:

Hahahahahaahaha the first time Harry introduced his Wife as Princess Henry the entire studio Piers works out of would burn down from his head exploding.

  16. Britt says:

These people need to give it up at this point. They’ve done everything they agreed to and that media will never be satisfied until they get what they really want, which is access and control. At this point, even if they give it up, these people will still moan and feel entitled to them. Piers started this nonsense and he’s been trying to punish Meghan for not letting him use her to advance his career. I think everyone can see that country and media will always have a reason to complain and are being ignored more and more. They didn’t go that hard for Andrew losing his titles but because Harry and Meghan didn’t invite the media for tea and give unfettered access…they dont realize how dumb they look.

  17. KellyRyan says:

The Netflix deal was as a result of their global image and popularity. H&M’s popularity increased when they left the BRF and sought freedom to live their own lives in America. Parliament, BRF will only appear foolish if any action is taken against them. H&M will continue to do what they planned, “thrive.”

    • Britt says:

They really think they’ll punish them. This about a media being angry and petty. Harry and Meghan will be fine regardless and they know that. They’re just desperate to hang on to them.

  18. ABritGuest says:

Lol their activities brought the monarchy into disrepute? This retired dude doesn’t seem to know much about the monarchy. How can stepping down and not being on the public purse cause this much upset from ordinary members of the public. I’ve never seen people so upset about a person of colour coming off government welfare.

It’s interesting Netflix deal has upset people so much like actual working royals don’t have commercial activities now. Queen has opened Sandringham for a drive in cinema. Her and Charles are residential and commercial landlords and I believe Queen has rights in some franchise businesses. Anne was running that horse trial event at her private estate. Andrew was making money from pitch at the palace.

These reactions and people being upset on the Queen’s behalf show that many Brits care about the royal family more than they will admit.

I wasn’t following then but saw recently that the crazies had lodged petitions to Teresa May to prevent Meghan getting a title and doing royal duties before she married in. Didn’t stand much of a chance from the start.

    • Babsorig says:

“These reactions and people being upset on the Queen’s behalf show that many Brits care about the royal family more than they will admit.”
      @BritGuest exactly this, nuff said.

  19. Sarah says:

A retired banker wrote to his MP. As a constituent we all have the right to do that. I wrote to my MP to point out that as a director of a small limited company (its just me) I fall between the gaps of all the coronavirus business support even though I have basically had no business during lockdown. This is how the parliamentary system works.

Having said that, I would like all MPs, but particularly the Tories to focus on the pandemic and Brexit given that these are likely to have a somewhat more significant impact on our country than a Netflix deal. Do you hear yourselves you racist idiots????

  20. RoyalBlue says:

The short answer is no. NEXT.

  21. Eleonor says:

Jeez but the British Parliament doesn’t have anything else on its agenda…something called Brexit for example?
    Just saying…

  22. Myra says:

Well, let them go ahead and try. The Duke of Windsor received his title after (I stand to be corrected) his abdication. He retained that title even after his vocal support of Hitler.

The Duke of York has retained his despite his friendship to a convicted sex offender and after being credibly accused himself of participating in child sex trafficking. He has also been involved with countless financial scandals, including wrongfully making payments out of charity finances. The Duchess of York retained hers after her divorce to the Duke of York. She was also marred with financial scandals, including borrowing money from a convicted sex offender.

The Duke and Duchess of Kent have retained theirs – not only are they not senior working royals but they have navigated some questionable financial dealings. They also seem to successfully navigate a half-in-half-out model. The Earl and Countess of Wessex have retained theirs despite failed financial dealings and a scandal of their own.

I’m sure others can point out other more scandalous nobles who have retained their titles. This is nothing but racism.

    • Humbugged says:

Not the Duke of Kent or his wife .She was allowed to retire and go off and teach art to kids in the East Riding he did 25 years in the Army and is still working for Brenda even after he had multiple strokes

You are thinking of his brother and his wife .Even if that would see Sophie Winklleman (Lady Fredrick Winsdor ) stripped of her title

    • Humbugged says:

That is Prince Michael the Duke’s brother and Marie is his wife .

Her dad was a Nazi (she was 1 when the war ended) and she grew up in Australia and her dad would be spinning in his grave as her daughter in law is very, very Jewish (her sister is Claudia Winkleman from the BBC version of Dancing with the Stars) and is also an actress who was on 2 Broke Men ,The Peep Show and played Jane Leeves sister in Hot In Cleveland

His daughter was married at St Georges last year

      • Myra says:

Thanks @Humbugged. Everyday I learn something new about the royals and their extended family on this site. There are quite some colourful characters in that family.

      • Tia says:

Someone said in a review of the Crown “So. Many. Nazis” and they are right.

No one makes a fuss about Marie Christine’s father because they might have to look at all Philip’s Nazi relatives at that point.

    • Humbugged says:

As far as Michael goes he was friends with Boris Berezovsky who maybe got knocked off by the Russians as was anti Putin .BB gave him money but they said it a loan between friends which is a thing with all his Romanov connections .Him and Marie no not do official BRF stuff but they do occasional things for Brenda which is why she pays their rent after the Public Accounts comitee kicked up a fuss

    • Abena Asantewaa says:

@Myra, Correction; I think you meant to say; Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and not The Duke and Duchess of Kent, who are Patrons of Wimbledon Tennis.
IYou did not write this; but I think Princess M of Kent grew up in Austria, not Aistralia.
      Excellent submission, though!

      • Myra says:

Yes, that’s the one. Thanks for the correction. And also thanks to @Tia for pointing out all of the Nazi connections. So as scandals we have:
        • fraudulent/suspicious financial dealings
        • friendships with sex offenders/ participation in child sex trafficking
        • Nazi sympathisers
        • Adultery
        • Racism
        • calling the queen “a cow” lol
But Harry and Meghan should be stripped of their titles. smh

      • Humbugged says:

No she grew up In Australia . She went to Kincoppal School in Sydney ,lived in Bondi junction and her mother owned a hairdressers

“In Sydney, far from assailing the heights of society, the former aristocrat and her young children lived a relatively humble existence. According to various press reports, the family moved into a house behind the Waverley tram sheds in Bondi Junction, a far from glamorous address.

Countess Maria is reputed to have then sold the family tiara to get enough money to buy a beauty parlour in the nearby suburb of Double Bay called the Marie France French Beauty Salon.

As a teenager, Marie Christine, who called herself (and still does to this day) ‘MC’, was reportedly ashamed of her family’s modest existence. As a student at the prestigious Kincoppal private girls school in Rose Bay, she was surrounded by the daughters of the eastern suburbs wealthy elite. (Fellow Kincoppal alumni include Lucy Turnbull and Gai Waterhouse.”

Her brother Fred worked for the Aussie government

        ———–

And I have to call out this Nazi sympathiser stuff . Marie was 1 when the war finished and her mother got divorced just after that

And Phillip was raised by his Uncle in England despite what his sisters did had little to do with them and his mother is Righteous Among the Nations

  23. tee says:

harry is intrinsically connected British royalty, titled or not. his father and brother will both be monarchs one day and he has lived his entire life as a public royal figure. taking his titles away won’t change that, and they will affiliated with the royals no matter what.

that being said, people are kidding themselves if they don’t think harry and meghan have a unique star quality and work ethic that’s contributed to their success. they’re merely taking full advantage of the opportunities given to them, and they’d be stupid not too. also, i reckon “meghan markle” is way more recognizable than “the duchess of sussex.” SHE (they) gave that title relevance.

  24. Mariane says:

Oh I pray they do! It’ll be the ultimate chance to get ride of this institution. Once parliament starts debating the royals particularly when majorty Australians are advocating for a republic following the release of queens letters showing her interference in their politics.
Lizzy is so worried she’s ending her retreat early because of the public perception of the monarchy+the strikes from fired royal staff. This monarchy is on its last leg. Come brexit+the effects from covid, people won’t be as ‘understanding’ to their excessive spending. And with the Sussexs gone and them repaying refurbishment cost, those left home will be in spotlight more

  25. Angel says:

All of this just screams distraction from actual problems from me. They wanted them to be independent and now they are independent they are mad too ? Harry will always be a prince and Meghan is the wife of a prince. They are still royals, title or not.

    • Sofia says:

People have been screaming “we don’t want to pay for them!” and “if they’re so unhappy they should just leave!”. They did both and yet those same people are still not satisfied. The goalposts keep moving. Now it’s about titles but even if they remove those, people will just move onto wedding/tour costs.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

Angel, I feel bad for Meghan too and I hope Harry really, really, really loves her because that’s the only way what she’s endured since it was revealed she’s with him would be worth all this.

  26. Amy Bee says:

This is just embarrassing for an MP to get involved in this nonsense. But as some have mentioned, stripping Harry and Meghan of their titles would only make them more popular. Furthermore, to most people they’re known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle so they won’t be losing anything if Parliament stripped them of their titles.

  27. HK9 says:

Unless they’re going to take Prince Andrew’s titles too they need to sit down. Don’t they have anything better to do like manage a pandemic and prop up the economy?

  28. BlueSky says:

Because stripping Diana of her HRH title after her divorce made her less popular and no one cared about her after that….oh wait.

I wonder who Penis Morgan paid to get them to write that letter.

  29. AMM says:

This won’t happen for multiple reasons. One, making money in connection to being Noble is not illegal. All the aristos with titles make money off them to pay for their ridiculous estates. Two, you can’t leave the Duke and Duchess of York titled and not the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Three, there are actual criminals and sex offenders with noble titles that haven’t been stripped. The last one to lose a title was 100 years ago for Treason. No one in the House of Lords wants the precedent for stripping titles over nothing.

  30. mynameispearl says:

Absolutely no reason MPs should waste their time on removing titles from people. Ridiculous.

I do on the other hand think think that every single title should be removed from every royal, save for the direct heir and line of succession.

I’m Irish and we have a president as head of state, I cannot imagine a situation ever where he was allowed to bestow little mini titles that bestowed houses, privileges, and status on as many of his family members as he wished. Michael D Higgins is a humanist and a socialist so he would never do that, but it still is so odd why the UK needs to have so many representatives as head of state. I’m happy (ish) to pay for one at a time, and one or 2 in training as needs be or whatever.

  31. Edna says:

What the hey? The British Parliament has much bigger and more important issues to deal with right now (Brexit, pandemic, recession). This is such silly nonsense. The British Media again using non issues to distract the public from what’s happening right before their eyes. Honest question, does the British Media ever actually do their jobs and report about current issues or is all just tabloid gossip nonsense like this?

There was a video of the Netflix CEO being asked about the deal with Harry & Meghan, not the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He was beaming with pride and so happy cause “H&M had shopped around and chose Netflix to do business with.” Harry & Meghan are what their known by. They don’t need the titles.

  32. S808 says:

Removing their titles, especially from Meghan, would make no difference. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are the brand, not the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. No one can take their God given names from them. They’ve already dropped the HRH, it’s not going to go much further than that. Penis Morgan is just bringing this up cause it’ll never happen thus being the stick he can use as long as he’s a waste of space on this earth.

  33. Tiffany says:

But they will still be Mountbatten-Winsdor sooooooo….this guy seems to be a idiot.

    • BayTampaBay says:

      Actually they are Glucksburg-Wettin.

“Mountbatten-Windsor” is just a made-up name for PR purposes. Thank you George V!

      • Becks1 says:

I mean its made up but that’s their last name at this point in time.

      • Angel says:

Wait that’s not Archie’s actual last name ?

      • Babsorig says:

What the heck are you talking about @BTB? You always out to confuse people. Mountbatten-Windsor is their name, period. Its NOT a made up name for PR purposes, my goodness!! Its like saying a person that legally changed their name is NOT actually that name that they’ve chosen for themselves, geez, stop it!!!
@Angel, Archie is master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

      • lanne says:

Prince Philips actual family name is Glucksburg on one side and Battenburg on the other, I believe–Phillip basically invented his own surname, first by taking his mother’s name, Battenburg, and changing it to Mountbatten (as his uncle Louis had done to make the name sound less German). The family name of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert was Saxe Coberg and Gotha, but King George 5 changed their name to the more English sounding Windsor during WW1 to lesson their connection to their enemies, Germany (Kaiser Wilhelm was George V and Nicholas 2 of Russia’s first cousin–all are descendants of Queen Victoria). So BTB is just referring to the history of the family and the German roots that at times, were pretty unsavory and could have threatened the position of the monarchy. It’s another reason why many aristos look down on the Windsors–Diana’s Spencer family was more English and “royal” in that regard than the Windsors. I think BTB’s point is that much of the family “tradition” and so-called protocol is arbitrary and made up–it’s not rooted in hundreds of years of history as people may assume.

      • Babsorig says:

@Lanne, all that is well known and well documented. But it doesn’t change the fact that NOW the GRF name is Mountbatten-Windsor. A lot of people change their names to more English sound names when they migrate, or even to names that sound more like names of parts of the world they’ve migrated to. Those names become their family names from then on, their children and grand children and great grand children now go by those Anglicized names; the Anglicized versions are their names period. At this point Trump’s name is Trump, NOT Drumpf, Helen is a Mirren NOT a Mironoff, Jennifer is a Aniston NOT Anastassakis and many others. The bottom line is the BRF name was changed to Mountbatten-Windsor and that’s what they all are, end of story.

      • lanne says:

yikes Babsorig–maybe someone reading this doesn’t know the history! Nobody’s trying to rename the royals. I know I always appreciate when people who have historical knowledge share what they know, so I like to do the same. I don’t believe Celebitchy’s community got together to make you the ultimate decider as to what historical context information should be given (end of story, indeed!). If they did, I didn’t get that memo. What a strange hill to send in the cavalry charge upon! No one’s talking about Trump or Anniston or Mirren here.

Besides, it does matter NOW that the Mountbatten-Windsors have changed their name, because they use their “traditions” and their “protocols” as a way to be exclusionary, as if they have some long-ass historical connection to their throne (all the way back to William the Conquerer, some say. Well, that’s true of half the English population). That was BTB (and my) point–who gives two craps about their name otherwise! I know I can be pedantic sometimes, but so many people use tradition and protocol (don’t even get me started on that) as a way to otherize and bash Meghan. That’s why a reminder about the name matters.

      • BabsORIG says:

Oh my goodness @Lanne really? Did I say anything that even remotely suggests I consider myself “the ultimate decider” of anything? You know what? Never mind, 😂😂😂 you have yourself a nice day 😁😁

      • lanne says:

You have a nice day, too!

  34. Egla says:

The funny thing is the more they talk about H&M the more publicity they bring to them. They took HRH from them and…nothing bad happened. The opposite if that.
Harry is the son of Charles and Diana. The nephew of the Q. The brother of the future future king. He will be there for special occasions. He will be seen. He will inherit money from his gm and father. He also has made a name for himself. Taking away a title, that outside of UK means nothing, won’t do anything to them. Some things you hear people say are just…dumb.

  35. Feeshalori says:

No matter what they try to do to them, Harry and Meghan will still be laughing on their way to the bank.

  36. Chickaletta says:

Im sorry but, are there no real problems in England? There is absolutely nothing *better* that their elected officials could be doing?

  37. WigletWatcher says:

So, the action that caused disrepute to the country was… a white man and a biracial woman falling in love? Or was it having a beautiful son? Or was it being educated, respectful, and their willingness to work in a positive way for the brf?

Oh wait! It was their refusal to have themselves, their charitable work and their infant son be steadily and racially abused by those that worked under their immediate family. While no one came to their defense even once.

I hope parliament discusses this. Let’s start talking about royals acting shamefully and keeping titles.

  38. Abby says:

    BUT WHAT ABOUT ANDREW?!

That’s all I can say. On repeat. This is bullsh*t.

  39. Fatie says:

Brexit Britain has lost its’ mind.

  40. GreenTea says:

This is pretty apalling. Some members of Parliament showing their true colors. They would rather support a pervert than an honest hard working couple.

  41. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Let them bring it to Parliament. The Labour Party will have a field day – wasting Parliamentary time when we have a No Deal Brexit and Round Two of Covid to deal with. I look forward to Keir Starmer pinkening with rage.

  42. MsIam says:

Is strip the titles like “what about her emails”? And this retired banker feels that Harry and Meghan have brought the monarchy into disrepute? Where has he been for the last 30 years? Finally, wouldn’t stripping the titles be disrespectful to the queen? Didn’t she say H&M and Archie were beloved family members and she was so proud of Meghan? Didn’t the queen gift the titles? Nobody seems to care that stuff do they?

    • Ennie says:

If they could give them back, and did, they’d be offending the queen. If they are stripped of them, then it is “deserved”.
Of course the discourse is crafted so they cannot win.

  43. Intheknow says:

I’d love for Harry and Meghan to renounce their titles and say here ‘take it’. Remember when Diana died and Petty Betty buried her head in the sand, refusing to read the room and the mood of the people…it almost ruined the monarchy. Here we are again where she and others are refusing to read the room correctly. All she has to do is step in and say ‘enough, we aren’t removing their titles and that’s that’ but nope, she wont. How can such a cowardly woman be allowed to ‘lead’.

They should be proud of Harry and Meghan..but I understand why they are worried. Now the tax payers are wondering ‘hey, if H&M can be financially independent, why can’t the rest of you do it?’…

    • Feeshalori says:

Let Parliament go down that slippery slope of stripping them of their titles and see where that leads them. Under no circumstances do I believe Harry and Meghan should freely renounce their titles. Not if everyone else in that misbegotten pedophile-loving family, even the minor Royals, who have their own side hustles gets to keep theirs. Let them come take those titles and see what a can of worms that opens. I double dare them. I’ll be sitting on the sidelines with my popcorn and wine reveling in the entertainment.

    • Nyro says:

No, absolutely not. They should not give up their titles. They have honored all that was agreed to by both parties back in January. If the royals want be dishonorable goal post moving bastards and take the Sussex’s titles back, then they’d better have the balls to do it themselves and deal with all of the backlash that will come their way and haunt them for generations. Supporters need to stop pushing this “give back the titles” nonsense because all it does is let that family off of the hook. Meghan and Harry don’t have to do a damn thing but go and be happy and live out their dreams. They don’t owe anyone anything. It’s done.

  44. Emmitt says:

They absolutely SHOULD strip them of their titles. And leave the other royals alone.

And see how well that works out for them in the long run.

Please explain how the Duke of Windsor kept his title but Harry should be stripped of his?

Please explain why Fergie is still styled “Duchess of York” while she’s hawking cheap goods on QVC, done an acting stint on FRIENDS, was a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers etc. Didn’t she also have a reality show?

This is just noise signifying nothing. Netflix isn’t going to rescind the deal because they no longer have titles and the bank isn’t going to repossess the home because they no longer have titles. They are safely in America where nobody gives a rip about titles, but Parliament isn’t going to be taking any action on this and if they do, again it won’t end well for the royals.

    • Queen Meghan's Hand says:

I think the stupid people on that island believe they WILL lose their Netflix deal and mortgage if their titles are removed.

      • Liz says:

There’s an incredibly obnoxious, high-profile blogger who is madly in love with Kate and writes hit pieces about the Sussexes with some frequency under the guise of “thoughtful analysis.” She firmly believes that H & M are worthless without their titles and tells her followers this all the time, with an air of unearned authority that is kind of shocking. But she gets quotes in media pieces! Anyway, she hasn’t posted on her blog in a few months (I don’t have social media so I don’t know if she’s active on there) and I have to assume it’s because H & M have shown themselves to be very successful while not actively Royal-ing and she doesn’t know how to spin it.

      • Kalana says:

@Liz. Same blogger who thought what happened to Jessica Mulroney was over the top?

      • Nyro says:

Liz, you’re talking about that racist POS “from Berkshire to Buckingham”? She’s a true jackass and a hater. She’s no different than those crazies like Murky Meg or Yankee Wally, she just dresses up her racism and white not hatred and jealousy of Meghan as “logic” and “analysis”. Such a phony. None of them will ever admit they’re a bunch of racist Karens whose self-esteem is shattered by the very thought of Meghan, but at least Murky Meg and Yankee don’t go around pretending they’re all classy and above anything. At least they admit they’re gutter trolls.

      • Liz says:

Yes! From Berkshire to Buckingham. I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to name another blogger and then say something negative. Jane is *the worst* and makes my blood boil. I think it’s because of what you said: she dresses her hatefulness in “I’m a classy, educated attorney so what I said is just fact.” When the Rose Hanbury thing came out, she wrote a piece about how she agrees William was wrong in what he did, not because she believes he cheated (she thinks William is a great guy), but because it’s inappropriate for men and women to be friends. So William and Rose having dinner together (she thinks that’s all that happened, lol) was wrong because of the optics. She’s basically female Mike Pence.

  45. Emily says:

If it went to Parliament, the public discussion would snowball into all kinds of other topics that I’m sure The Firm would rather avoid. Come on, do it. I fucking dare you.

  46. Mooshe1 says:

This man is an idiot and the people of Sussex should be mad at him for this stupidness! You have Brexit, a pandemic, and the economy out there to worry about and this fool wants to strip titles from two royals making an honest living for themselves??? They’re not pedophiles, thieves, nazis, or anything like that but they had the gall to sign a multi million dollar deal, so take their titles? If the royal family wasn’t so jealous they could have used H&M’s spotlight in their favor! If Willy really cared about the peasants he would join forces with Harry on projects in the UK.

    • notasugarhere says:

This might be the same guy from Sussex who made the local Council discuss the Sussex titles right after the wedding. He wanted the local government to refuse to host any visits or refuse to use those titles to refer to the couple if they ever did visit.

  47. TheOriginalMia says:

The pettiness of removing their titles will backfire on the BRF. It just opens the door to removing Andrew’s, the York sisters’ and the Kent/Glouchester’s titles. No one wants that to happens, so it won’t. Just petty bitching from some ol’ foggy royalist about that horrible, ungrateful Duke of Sussex and his upstart wife.

  48. one of the Marys says:

Will it become a joke like ‘the artist formerly known as Prince’? Can you imagine the fun you could have with that: Meghan formerly HRH Duchess of Sussex, I’d plaster that everywhere. I agree with all your comments, all this makes Britain, RF and RR look like idiots and it’s all to the increasing benefit of H&M

    • HeatherC says:

Ooh or another idea. Then she’d be Princess Henry of Wales. So if everyone referred to her as Meghan, Princess Henry of Wales it is oh-so-close to HRH Princess of Wales in a few years. Karen of Cambridge will love that I’m sure.

  49. Sunshine says:

Can someone please spell out for me.. what are “their antics.”? Is that code for something in hater world?

  50. Bettyrose says:

For all that I consider this treatment of H & M total BS, I do like the idea of them being fully private citizens, Americans, with their earned success and privilege, a more functional Angie & Brad. A more relatable George and Amal.

  51. Nina says:

    Speechless
But I hope they do it.
It will allow the whole word to accept that the uk is definitely proud of it racism

  52. aquarius64 says:

Puss and the BM syndicate are still salty about this? They’re mad because Netflix would never offer them a 150 million dollar deal. Theses idiots think if the titles are taken it will lessen their value and Netflix will drop them.

  53. Mina_Esq says:

A new low. They’ve done nothing wrong. You can’t bring disrepute to an institution by working hard for good causes. Plus, we don’t know the nature of Netflix conflict they plan to put out. It will likely be educational, like the Obamas’ content. This crotchety old man (I’m assuming he is an old white dude) needs to sit down and be ashamed of himself.

  54. Heidi says:

This Tory MP is just trying to deflect from the shenanigans of his inept Prime Minister.

For their own peace of mind, Harry & Meghan should right now give back their titles voluntarily and pay back the money for the wedding – because that will be their next demand.

I would love to see a video of Charles’ face when they give him the check, paid out of their petty cash.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

No, they should not. If they want the titles back, let them take it back by act of parliament and let the games begin. As for the wedding if/when Britain is ready to hand over the billion in revenue generated from the wedding, I am sure H/M will gladly deduct the cost of the wedding from it.

  55. Flying Fish says:

If Parliament tables this issue, then it should table the abolition of the Monarchy.

Oh and by the way, if Parliament tables this issue, the Commonwealth members needs to table its dismantling or the removal of the Queen as its head.

  56. Vanessa says:

The Goal post will always be moved for Meghan and Harry they successfully gained financial freedom for the Royal family when faster than they anyone expected. There nothing those royal reporters can hold over Meghan and Harry they pay back their Frogmore cottage Charles didn’t help them out at all but he allowed that stories to continue but he thought it make him look good. And we found out that they haven’t received a dime for him since they left they only things these royal reporters have are titled stripping and there no way that’s going to happen. Even though their some people in the royal family who super jealous of Meghan and Harry global popularity their no way the royal family would wanted them stripped of their titles you take away their people who are blindingly brainwashing into thinking the royal family and their off spring are the second coming of Christ . Will wanted to know why Beatrice Eugenie and mostly the queens cousins and Andrew all have their titles .

  57. Lizzie says:

This nonsense is getting all the clicks while not reporting at all when protesters are outside BP demanding something be done about Andrew.

  58. Microsoft says:

If push comes in think harry will voluntarily permanently leave brf and line to succession because I think he fed with it and he had the taste of freedom and they may even get more deal with money with media exposure
. Either way they will win and brf is miscalculate all this . I believe this title stunt is pulled by brf because in their mind Sussex got this deal beacuse of their title so stripping them will make them poor. Those ididts do t get that any and York girls will come next to it and one day little Charlotte and louis too. By stripping them makes their brand global very popular and they can demand whatever the money they want and they can live of those royalty they get from their Netflix deal.

  59. Sam says:

BRF need to bring get a solid group of PR folks to advise them. Keeping this going, focusing on the Sussexes, does not alleviate the attention on them. Just makes it worse.

  60. UNIVERSE says:

If they take away the titles, she will become Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor. That will then be the legal name she can use, That will kill them even more, they are really not thinking this through🤣

  61. Ginger says:

Tom Bradby said back in January that Harry and Meghan are prepared to lose it all. They are fine with it. He said they can take Frogmore, their titles, etc.. They just want out.

  62. MerryGirl says:

I’m starting to believe the people of the UK for all their complaints about the Royals living off taxpayers money, ACTUALLY LIKE the Royals living off them. That way they can continue to bitch and moan because they are a nation of complainers. They complained about the cost of her clothes, they complained about paying for their security, they complained about the 2.4 million renovation costs to Frogmore Cottage. Harry and Meghan returned their money and stopped using Government funded security & Prince Charles support, yet they continue to complain. Removing titles will solve nothing because they’ll just find another thing to complain about. Harry and Meghan have won by becoming financially independent and need to get on with their lives because nothing will ever please the UK.

    • Vera says:

that’s not entirely true. I have no issues with Harry and Meghan as people. I am anti royal/aristocracy though and very much object to them living off the state or having all that massive wealth that they plundered centuries ago.
The French sorted all that with guillotines…
Time to strip all titles and land off all of them.

The ones you talk about are only object to H&M getting anything, they have no issues Andrew being kept in luxury by his mummy.

  63. AppleTartin says:

Wasn’t on the wedding license she was listed as a Princess. You can’t strip Harry of his Prince title and Archie and him still have a line in succession. What do they care, they will just revert to Prince & Princess. Hell even more of a selling point for them. I don’t love an American taking a royal title since we had a little war about it. But just let them live their lives for cripes sake.

  64. Storminateacup says:

Can’t believe they’re wasting time to be so stupidly spiteful in Parliament when they’ve got to manage a no deal Brexit and a country going through a second Covid spike. Harry and Meghan will be just fine either way.

  65. Marivic says:

From where I live mostly know that prince and princess titles are higher than duke and duchess titles. We don’t care about HRH. So if Harry and Megan are prince and princess they have a more elevated status than where they are at now. Everybody loves a prince and princess. Who cares about duke and duchess?

    • Lady D says:

I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around, Marivic. A D&D outrank and prince and princess. That’s why I laugh at those howling for her to lose her princess title and be called a duchess. They think it’s demotion.

  66. Still_Sarah says:

@ Appletartin : Meghan is not a princess. Her highest ranking title is duchess. Kate Middleton is not a princess either, only a duchess.

    • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

Yes, but we are Americans. We named Princess Diana- that was never her proper title but that never stopped us, and now it’s how the world remembers her. Besides, as far as I understand, Meghan is technically Princess Henry of Wales, just as Kate is Princess William.

    • Ebony Rising says:

Read the Wikipedia on the matter. Both Meghan and Kate are princesses. They are STYLED as duchesses, however. Their official occupation on official forms are Princess of the UK. Thus, a damn princess. You really think you can be married to an actual blood prince and not be a princess?

  67. OK says:

I haven’t read all the comments so someone may have already posted this. Under normal circumstances it is only parliament that can remove a peerage title.

However what everyone (including the MPs) is missing is that in 1917 a statute was passed into law which gives the Monarch the power to remove any title or style from anyone who is an HRH. This law was not touched during the 2013 redrafting of the succession rules so it still stands and it means that as Harry is still HRH Prince Henry (even though he does not use HRH now) parliament is not required in the mix, the Queen only needs to draft new letters patent to remove one or all of Harry’s titles and and it’s a done deal, even the ‘style’ of Prince and HRH can be removed as King George V did with the 9th in line to the throne Prince Alistair in 1917.

It is under this law that Charles, when he becomes King will be able to remove Archie’s Prince and HRH styles. if Archie decides he doesn’t want them which was talked about in a previous thread here and in the Finding Freedom book.

One expert said the Monarch has the sole power to remove styles and titles from an HRH and parliament has no say in it . Am still trying to find an actual copy of the document to see if it is a Royal Prerogative ( sole prerogative ) or just that the power is given to the Monarch as well as Parliament.

  68. A says:

Y’know what–they can do it. Why not. Do it. Get rid of their royal titles. Make it easier to strip other royals of their titles, if they displease the public and bring “disrepute to the monarchy” or whatever else. Let’s make it happen.

What these idiots don’t seem to realize is that the vast, vast majority of the world get on by just fine without royal titles. Meghan surely did. They are operating under the presumption that H&M care about titles as much as these fuckers do, when chances are incredibly slim that that’s the case at all. In fact, I think they’d be more relieved if they did get their titles revoked. All the less reason to ever come back to Britain, or this ridiculous family, ever again.

But yeah. Do it. Let them. I’d be disappointed if they didn’t. Make it happen. And then, after stripping them of their titles, if they still find unmitigated success? What will they suggest next? That people should send Harry to work anonymously in a coal mine? Do that too. Actually, let’s update that. Make Harry work at a Walmart or something. Do it. I dare the British to make this fucking happen. Because the fucking tabloids and the racists really think that living an ordinary life serves as a punishment, as if it’s the 18th century somehow. The fact that the tabloid readers really believe this is a testament to the brain rot that endemic the world over right now, honestly.
