I had no idea Colin and Hugh Grant were born one day apart!! Happy birthday to both of them.

    • katharine says:

I love them both so much (in their film roles, that is–I probably could do without Hugh in person).

    • February-Pisces says:

Yes Hugh just turned 60 yesterday. I love that even at 60 both Hugh and Colin are still as handsome and charming as ever. Also Hughs twitter page is quite good. He re-tweets a lot from Byline investigates about the tabloids phone hacking, he hates the British media even more than I do.

Relatedly, it was a year ago yesterday that I met Jennifer Ehle! That’s almost a Colin encounter, lol.

    • Chicken says:

OH MY GOSH I AM SO JEALOUS. The 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice (the only one i acknowledge as accurate, tbh) is very dear to me, and so I will always love Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Getting the Pride and Prejudice video box set for Christmas in 1995 was one of the best gifts I have ever received. I’ve watched the whole thing literally hundreds of times.

      • Valerie says:

Same, omg! I once caught a little of the Keira Knightley version on TV, and it seemed okay (for Keira), but I think Colin and Jennifer’s is where it’s at. At the risk of sounding like a stick-in-the-mud, the BBC adaptations of Austen’s stories just get it right in a way that the others don’t.

She is surprisingly tall and tiny all at once, lol. I was wearing heels and there was still a height difference. It didn’t seem like it at the time.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

Wow! I’m so jealous. I loved Jennifer Ehle’s Elizabeth Bennet. Colin Firth will always be my Mr. Darcy, probably in part because of the age I was when that version of Pride & Prejudice came out. But also because he & Jennifer had such great chemistry. And frankly, the fact that it was a miniseries gave more space to play out the whole story, which I think benefited the final product. It really let them feature so many great performances.

      • Valerie says:

She was lovely! I am even more glad now that I took the opportunity to talk to her and that she was sweet enough to stick around for me. I caught her just as she was leaving the theater, which wasn’t hard to do, seeing as there was only one way out. It was a regular Cineplex, of all places. A large one, but still not a *theater* like The Winter Garden.

The casting was perfect across the board. That Mr. Collins is extra cringy, haha. I was actually reading P&P at the time, but I didn’t tell her. 😉

To celebrate Colin, my butler’s 60th, we are hosting a socially distanced virtual birthday party from the veranda. Plenty of virtual cake and champagne for everyone.

  8. lucy2 says:

I’m not a ruffles person myself, but I think Nathalie is making that look work somehow.

Why are people still throwing parties in a pandemic? Especially birthday parties for adults?

  9. MargaritasForBreakfast says:

God I hope Colin Firth is pro Meghan and anti-British tabloids. I love him so.

  10. L84Tea says:

I must be in the minority because while I love and adore Colin Firth (I originally fell in love with him as a kid in his brief scene in a made for Tv version of “The Secret Garden”–he was the grown up Colin Craven), he just doesn’t do it for me as Mr. Darcy–please don’t throw things at me. He’s great in it, but I much prefer the quiet coolness of Matthew Macfayden’s Mr. Darcy.

  11. Kath says:

My forever Mr. Darcy is definitely Matthew Macfayden, but congrats Colin Firth!

  12. Queen Meghan's Hand says:

Happy Birthday to my fav, Colin Firth!

Happy 60th Birthday Colin, my Mr. Darcy forever!

  14. Aw says:

I needed that Colin Firth headline today. Thank you!!!

  15. Bobbie says:

Seeing that picture of him as Mr. Darcy makes my heart skip a beat. 🙂

  16. Bonnie Anne says:

But… have you seen Cake Mr. Darcy? For the record, I like both recent version of Darcy as played by Firth and Macfayden.

Colin Firth being a Virgo feels right.

  18. Faithmobile says:

Right. I refuse to pick a favorite Darcy. Happy birthday to my fellow Virgo Collin. Just watched the new Emma and loved it.
