Selena Gomez doesn’t read the comments ‘I have way too much of a sensitive heart’

The more we’re seeing Selena Gomez lately, the more she’s growing on me. She’s covering Allure this month in a super sugary writeup that had me rolling my eyes a few times. I dislike it when journalists are deliberately mean to celebrity interview subjects, but you don’t have to crawl up their butts either! Selena’s quotes are pretty good though, you can tell she’s done a lot of work on herself and that she’s trying to be vulnerable and honest with her fans. She did her own makeup for the photo shoot and she definitely knows what she’s doing in that department. We saw that in her recent videos with Vogue and Nikkie Tutorials promoting her makeup line, Rare Beauty. I learned a few things from her in her Vogue video. Some of these younger celebrities, like Selena, Zendaya are Demi Lovato, are just total pros at doing their own makeup. In this interview, she talks about her mental health after her kidney transplant and how she doesn’t read the comments and tries to stay off social media. They opened with the fact that she’s not into celebrating her birthday, which was in July. I could definitely relate to that part. Here’s some of what she said.

She’s letting her friends plan her birthday
“I’m not really good with birthdays. I don’t know, it just feels like maybe something like 30 should be celebrated. Turning 28 is weird.”

On the media feeling intrusive, especially when she was recovering from a kidney transplant
“My personal life was out everywhere. It felt very claustrophobic and just…I felt very trapped.”

“I was dealing with a lot of medical problems, so I fluctuated in weight a lot. It was just unfair for someone to handle.”

On her bipolar diagnosis, which she’s been open about
“I have always had so many different emotions and I didn’t know how to control them quite well. It was complicated. But I think I’m happy to understand it. Once I did find out more about who I was, I was proud. I also felt comfortable knowing that I wasn’t alone, and I was going to get through it. So I will always be passionate about that. It’s something I will continue to talk about.”

She doesn’t read the comments
“Oh, God! I haven’t done that in years. I honestly can’t. I’m strong in a lot of ways, but I think I just have way too much of a sensitive heart.”

On what she learned during the BLM movement this summer
“There was so much that I didn’t know. I was so upset with how people were being treated, and having people in my life that have dealt with that for years, telling me stories that they’ve never told me before.”

[From Allure]

I’m glad she’s doing ok. I’m glad she’s not all coupled-up with another guy who isn’t good for her either. (See: Demi Lovato, I’m worried about her.) Selena seemed really hung up on Justin Bieber when she was promoting her last album, he was her first love and they kept getting back together. He got married to Hailey a hot minute after their last breakup and you could tell it stung. As for her thoughts on birthdays, same. I’m in my late 40s though! How is it that she’s like that at just 28? Right now I won’t even celebrate my birthday on the actual day, I wait a day or two afterwards for some reason. I didn’t get that way until my mid 30s however. Maybe she feels her age a lot harder after all that fame in her youth. She definitely doesn’t look 28, especially in those Allure pics. I would ask whose idea it was to do the Frida Kahlo-inspired look but she had a stylist and hairstylist working with her.

If you told me that all these photos were different people I’d believe you.
Stylewise, they are really going for a hipster Frida Khalo aren’t they?
On a personal level, I feel for her health issues. She has gone through a lot.

She looks 16 to 18 yrs old. 28 is not old. I love her cover too. She is pretty.

It does seem like she has grown up a bit, and I think it’s very wise to not read the comments. People are awful, and especially to celebrities, and especially young famous women. I would avoid it too, if I were her.

I don’t think she was saying ugh, 28 I’m so old, no more birthday parties, just that she’s not into a big celebration for it.

I’ve often had this thought about myself. I can’t handle reading negative anything me. It bothers me way more than it should. Especially because I piss off a lot of people 😂
