Michelle Obama and The Lip Bar encourage voter registration with Bawse Lady color

Michelle Obama has been extremely busy in this year’s election. She did a virtual conference with her organization When We All Vote and speaks about getting the vote out, especially in marginalized communities. With the election just 50 days away, Michelle O has launched a new initiative in conjunction with Black-owned cosmetics company The Lip Bar.

The CEO of Lip Bar, Melissa Butler, posted a picture of Michelle Obama wearing Bawse Voter to announce they had created the limited edition matte red lipstick in partnership with Michelle Obama and When We All Vote. Forty percent of the sales of the $13 lipstick will go toward When We Will All Vote in hopes of creating more voter turnout in elections by providing registration events, text reminders and online resources. Here is the caption to the photo above:

Michelle LaVaughn Obama is wearing Bawse Lady aka Bawse voter in this pic and I just wanna drop down low and sleep the floor with it, do the stanky leg, Bankhead bounce, body roll, tootsie roll and chicken head real quick. That’s how exciting this moment is. ⁣

My forever First Lady is wearing @thelipbar!!!!! ⁣

Proud of this moment not just because of Michelle Obama, but also bc we partnered with @whenweallvote to support voter registration! And 40% of the purchase price of all Bawse Voters will go towards WWAV and their goal to get people to the polls come November 3rd!

I love a matte power red lipstick as we all know and I am here for this collaboration. I tend to get excited when beauty brands join up with organizations for social causes. It makes me feel as if I am using my money to do some good in the world while also having a great product.

So I’m gonna mosey on over to the website and throw my money at the Lip Bar in hopes of getting my hands on one of the 500 tubes of Bawse Voter (even the name is awesome). Yes, I said that right. Lip Bar only created 500 tubes of Bawse Voter. Anyways, Michelle looks amazing and I swear she is aging in reverse since leaving the White House. Hopefully, you all have a voting day contingency plan so that your vote is counted.

She looks beautiful, as always. Gotta love her. Also an awesome partnership.

We just had a local election in my part of europe and boy, are the results disappointing. Get out to vote, kids!

I LOVE The Lip Bar. Their glosses, matte liquid lipsticks, and regular billet lipsticks are super good quality at a really really reasonable price. I got this literally the second I read the email in my inbox. Hope others do the same!

The closer we get to the elections, the more conspiracy theories we get from trump and his supporters……the direction this country is going to is scary; I don’t know if anyone saw the Jim Acosta reporting where he asked Trump supporters why they are not wearing a mask: one of them said it is a fake pandemic! for idiots like that, nothing could be done. So I hope those who are still reasonable and rational go out there and vote…..

Purchased! I’ve never heard of the Lip Bar, and I’ve been rocking all sorts of bold colors now that I see patients exclusively via telehealth. I look so washed out without bold colors, and my patients seem to enjoy it.

I recently got the fast face set… while I wasn’t impressed with the actual makeup the customer service is top-notch. the Bawse lady lip is one of my favs, the only complaint is it smudges easily and gets on everything that dears to get near my lips.

This is great! I volunteer with When We All Vote, texting voters on how to either register, vote by mail, or vote safely in person.

Aww, I missed out on the Bawse Voter shade. Glad it sold out so fast, though. I’d buy more lipstick from that site, but it occurred to me that I’m probably never appearing in public without a mask again, so I’m not sure how much lipstick I’ll ever need.

Michelle looks quite different from the time she was the First Lady…. why is that? if I see her pictures from the First Lady years and now, it is different.
The main example is the hair.
For believing what she is selling, I need answers for the drastic hair change and the motivation behind it and if she thinks it was right to change her hair when she became a FLOTUS and her hair is now how is it intended to be. I am just confused

    • Case says:

I get what you’re saying, but I’m 99% sure her natural hair is a 2020 look. She didn’t switch to natural hair the moment Barack left office or anything.

    • Jensies says:

Why does Michelle. Obama. need to answer to you for anything, especially around how she choose to wear her hair? Stop policing Black bodies.

      • enike says:

I am not sure if she wore her natural hair during her FLOTUS days, thats all. During 8 years in the office.

    • SomeChick says:

For starters, it was four years ago! Do you look exactly the same as you did four years ago?

FFS. Get off Black women’s hair. It’s not your place. If you don’t believe is is important to vote – which is what she is “selling” here – then go back under a rock. What is it to you how she wears her hair? Really.

    • Yup, Me says:

Her hair has always been natural, but she couldn’t wear it curly when her husband was running for Pres. because America is f*cked up and racist and natural hair is seen as too “militant” and “aggressive” (see the history of the Black Panthers and Black Power movements and the image that was drawn of Michele with an afro during the campaign).

Since they left office, she has been wearing her hair natural more often. She’s not “selling” anything wearing her hair the way it grows out of her head. And your reaction to it is probably a great example of why she wore her hair in a fashion that was considered more “acceptable” for so long.

      • enike says:

        @Yup, Me
thank you for the calm and very reasonable explanation, it makes sense now. Its quite sad… I mean if the First Lady cant wear her natural hair in the office, than who can?
        sad

    • dawnchild says:

      @enike:
      1) no one owes you answers on their hair…least of all, black women.
      2) she’s ‘selling’ the idea that you should exercise your right to vote. It’s a free idea and doesn’t cost anything so she’s not ‘selling’. She’s not asking for how you vote, just that you do. It’s called public service.
      3) I have restrained myself (without difficulty, I might add) from asking white women what the fuck they are doing to their hair…dyeing, teasing, highlighting, blowing out, spraying and god knows what. You can see how obnoxious it would be if I didn’t “believe” Hillary without “getting answers” for her hair color choices and the “motivation” behind it. Do you think all white women in the public eye wear their hair ‘au naturale’?
So sit down and take a seat, and do a bit of reading to understand the depth of rudeness of your question and its perpetuation of the historic racism of black female body policing.
