John David Washington was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Samuel L. Jackson guest hosting. It was a joy to watch and I’ve embedded the video below. They’ve known each other since John was little, because he’s Denzel’s son of course and Denzel and Sam are close. John is promoting Tenet but we also just heard that his film, Malcolm and Marie with Zendaya and directed by Sam Levinson (Euphoria), was picked up at TIFF by Netflix. That was the first film to be finished in lockdown, it’s a romantic drama and is in black and white. I’m definitely interested in that.
John told Sam that he’s back in Brooklyn now but that he moved back in with his parents, I’m assuming in LA, for a while during lockdown. He said he stayed in his old room and that part made me laugh so loud. “Yes Uncle Sam I was in my own room.” He said he had to do chores too but they don’t sound too bad.
What was your chore because I know Denzel likes some order in the house
I can’t believe we’re doing this. My chore was to was to make sure I’m down for dinner and that’s a joy that’s not a chore.That’s not a chore. A chore is sweeping the driveway, taking the garbage out. Something that earns your keep
How about cooking?You’re the grillmaster. You’ve got mad grill skills.

Warner Brothers and Syncopy they’re watching me right now so I’ve got to be careful. They’re always watching. What I can say is it is a globe-trotting, spy thriller, action-packed Nolan drama.After [your family] saw the movie did you go back home and get critiqued?
We definitely went back home and discussed it the entire weekend. They loved it and there was ‘what the hell is going on’ moments for sure. We seemed to gain more context with what was going on in the movie as we started to reflect on it. [My family] got it really quickly.

Kaiser sent me this story in People and I got excited thinking that John had actual chores to do at home, but it sounds like he was just held accountable and helped out where he could. They’ve surely got a houseful of staff, even now. In my 30s I moved back in with my parents for a while and we got along great. My dad has a certain way he runs the house and once I learned that and pulled my weight it went smoothly. It really helped me get closer to them and I’m glad we were able to do that. Now I’m teaching my son how to to run a house and he’s getting particular about how things are done! He’s telling me to take my shoes off in the house. Sweeping is one of his chores and he doesn’t want more work to do. I love to see that.
As for Tenet, I’ve heard it’s super confusing and John’s story about having to talk it over with his family just reinforces that. I’ll watch it when it comes on demand though.

God I miss staying at Dad and Mom’s house as an adult, jumping up to clear tables and clean dishes, make morning coffee and tidy up rooms where my kids had left toy and trash trails lol. Basically I miss showing them they done guud lol.
I saw tenet a few weeks ago here in Scotland and enjoyed it for the most part, the sound was so overbearing at times though. You could hardly hear what the characters were saying at some points because the soundtrack was so damn loud. John David was amazing (the first time Iāve seen him in anything)
And Robert Pattison was great as well. I havenāt watched any of robs more serious roles after twilight but now I get the hype. I have to say the film is on par with The Dark Knight rises, not of one Christopher Nolanās best films by a long stretch but still beautiful to look at with great performances.

I watched it two weeks ago,and it is definitely a cinema movie unless you are blessed with your own home system,those classic Nolan sound effects need to be loud. I was a little confused first half,i could watch it again.
I saw “Tenet” at a drive-in a week ago and enjoyed it but agree it’s confusing; I’ll have to see it again in a venue where it’s easier to concentrate. (And yeah, the sound was wild; we had to keep turning the radio up and down between the action bits.) I’d never seen John in anything before and really enjoyed his performance.
I hated the film so much. One I couldnāt understand it because of the loud background noises over all the talking and two because Christopher Nolan can not write a good woman character. I was so cross with how the main woman character was treated.
On another note that interview was lovely. I donāt think I can see any of Denzel in him! Maybe around the nose.
I did not hate it but I agree,it wasn’t very good. John David was the best thing about this film,he’s incredibly charismatic. It’s very beautiful to look at and Pattinson and Washington have really good chemistry but the story is terrible. Nolan tries so hard to make it look like an incredibly smart film when, deep down, it’s just not that complicated and the plot is not very different than a lot of action movies/thrillers out there. The female character is such a disaster, I almost laughed at some point. Everything about her is a massive cliche, she could have been written by some kind of female character generator. Although to be fair her husband is not that much better,he’s basically a villain from an early 70’s James Bond movie.
He is VERY good-looking and charismatic, gets that from both sides. He was great in BlackkKlansmen. Not sure if Iāll see him in this, just because the reviews havenāt been great, but I look forward to seeing him in other things.
Heās a really good actor. The movie with Zendaya sounds really interesting, Iām glad itāll be on Netflix!
I had no idea he was Denzelās son when I watched Blackkklansman ā I donāt think they look at all alike!
All those kids look like their mother. Paulette is a stunning woman and the Pearson gene is strong in that family.
CB, how are you teaching your son how to run a household? Can you give some tips?
