The DM: Duchess Kate’s friend claims Kate didn’t stalk William for years

Kate Middleton

Back in October, the Daily Mail tried to bury some not-so-flattering excerpts from Robert Lacey’s Battle of Brothers. The excerpts were all of Lacey’s accounting of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s early courtship, from when then-Kate Middleton repeatedly threw herself in William’s path, and then clung to him and stayed with him while he cheated on her constantly. While Lacey didn’t say “stalked” or “clinger” or “Carole Middleton orchestrated the entire thing,” Lacey definitely left enough room for readers to draw their own conclusions. And honestly, we’ve heard all of that stuff for years. Lacey’s version was just a rehash of what was already widely known at the time: Kate changed universities to throw herself in William’s path and then did everything to keep him. But… now the Daily Mail has an interview with a friend of Kate (during their school years, I suppose) and now we’re supposed to believe that Kate never wanted any of this. Waity, please.

Hurtful claims that Kate Middleton targeted from an early age becoming Prince William’s bride have been strongly repudiated by a friend. Talking to The Mail on Sunday on the eve of the tenth anniversary of the announcement of the couple’s engagement, the Marlborough College contemporary said that, in fact, Kate had actually hated the idea of a life in the public eye.

In a major three-part series for the newspaper – accompanied by a free, 24-page glossy photo magazine – the school friend says: ‘All Catherine ever wanted was a husband, a house in the country, loads of kids, a dog and a kitchen with an Aga.’

This contradicts unsubstantiated claims that a young Kate – with the connivance of her socially aspirational mother Carole – set her sights on William and even changed university to be alongside him at St Andrews in Scotland.

The friend told the MoS: ‘Whereas Catherine’s younger sister Pippa was always expected to be a hot-shot lawyer or work in the City – having the ambition and drive of her mother – Catherine was much more like her father. She wanted a happy, domestic setting – looking after everyone. Becoming a member of the Royal Family, thrust into the limelight, is the last thing she would have wanted. But she fell in love with William, who just happened to be heir to the throne. She married William despite his position, not because of it.’

These comments flatly refute the suggestion raised in royal biographer Robert Lacey’s recent book that an 18-year-old Kate had gone so far as set up lodgings with two friends in Edinburgh to study History of Art at the Scottish capital’s university but changed her mind and took a year off before switching to St Andrews after it has been announced that William had chosen to study there. In fact, Kate was still pining for her Marlborough first love, Harry Blakelock, who friends said had ‘blown hot and cold with her when they were at school and she was always talking about how she could get him back.’

Both Kate and Blakelock were in Florence during her gap year but they never reunited. He subsequently married a school friend of Kate’s and is now a senior vice-president at the world’s largest privately held, independent insurance broker.

[From The Daily Mail]

This is asinine. Who is trying to push this story? Is this coming from the Middletons who suddenly want everyone to believe that the Future Future Queen is not a stalker? Again, there’s ample evidence to suggest that Kate had a laser-like focus on landing William and there’s also evidence to suggest that she did everything to throw herself in his path for years before they got together. Now, I’ll buy that Kate never wanted to be a public figure. I think all of this was Carole’s dream, and Carole came up with the plot to throw Kate in William’s path. The fact that Kate is so ill-suited for royal life is not some kind of proof that Kate didn’t stalk William. It’s proof that all Kate cared about was landing William and getting the ring, and she didn’t think of anything beyond that.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

    Sure, Jan.

  2. teresa says:

    She stalked him!

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Right there in the article is proof that she is a stalker!!! She was allegedly heart broken over her ex Harry Blakelock that she went all the way to Florence to spend time with him during her gap year but they never reunited. Sounds to me like a pattern of behaviour right there. And then she goes off on another gap year but happens to miss William by months?? Sounds like the case of ‘want man, will travel’ when it come to Kate. Love that Harry Blakelock married a very accomplished woman just like Harry Windsor. Just saying.

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ Teresa : Kate may have stalked William but so what? I imagine many girls had their eye on him and marrying Royal and rich. Kate must have had something more than that and/or any grand schemes from Carole Middleton. We are now ten years into the marriage with three children, so I think it’s a bit late to dismiss Kate as a stalker with pretentions.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate spent a decade standing by while he cheated constantly, being a doormat, never working. Doing nothing but waiting for him to give up and marry her as a last resort. For the decade of marriage we’ve seen a crumbling relationship, William openly ignoring and resenting her, the affair(s), and the surety that this marriage isn’t going to last.

So what? If you see anything admirable in her stalking behavior, keep supporting her. The rest of us will continue to criticize the stalker, her laziness, her ineptitude, and her abusive behavior towards her brother and sister in law.

      • Nic919 says:

It’s obviously still an issue for them since they keep trying to pretend that she didn’t change her university choice last minute and inserted herself in his social circle.

If Kate had done something of substance with her life in the twenty years since she met him then perhaps they wouldn’t be so insecure about this story, but it’s obvious she’s done nothing and she’s tolerated a lot of poor treatment by William just to possibly become FFQC.

That said William isn’t a victim here because he could have turfed her from his circle if he wanted to, but she was useful to him.

  3. sara says:

This is so dumb it’s not worth commenting on. But it is weird how Britons are obsessed with Aga stoves which are pointless and expensive and inefficient and dumb.

    • Esme says:

Efficiency is middle class, it has to be wasteful to be at least a bit upper class 😉

    • heygingersnaps says:

Funnily enough, my son’s aunt who married into a titled family, bought a cottage in Cambridgeshire and it came with an Aga and her husband told us that in the first month that they moved in it was just like chucking in £5 notes with the way that it was costing them. They’ve soon stopped using it so it’s just sat there unused in their kitchen while they use a hob & oven.

    • Megaladondon says:

I guess it depends on how you use it. My Grandmother has an aga and she uses it to heat her entire kitchen. She has a fire in her living room and doesn’t turn on her heat at all.

      • heygingersnaps says:

Their cottage is massive, so it will only heat their kitchen and maybe the utility/laundry room connected to it. They have a fireplace/log burner in the lounge but all the other rooms have radiators to heat it so running the Aga is a pointless and money wasting exercise.

  4. Seraphina says:

When I saw this piece I was confused, because we all know the truth. Trying to re-write history is what this looks like and unfortunately for Keen Kate, we have receipts.

    • My3cents says:

Maybe they’re trying to rewrite it so by the time The Crown season 6 or 7 hits we won’t see a stalky Kate?

  5. Belli says:

If all Kate wanted was a quiet life in the country, she wouldn’t have hung around William for 10 years waiting for the ring. If we take her word for it that Kate didn’t like the attention or want a public life, something would need to make the waiting, the breakups, the cheating, the paparazzi attention etc etc worth it.

    • JT says:

@belli This. Why would you marry the future king of England if all you want is a house and a damn dog? You don’t even need a man to do that. Not only is this narrative ridiculous, it just proves that being good in her role was never in the plan. She just wanted the trappings of royalty without the work. Who thinks this makes Kate look good?

    • Oh says:

she reminds me of that bitter liar Chelsy , who dated Harry for 7 years, and when they broke up, she said that she refused to marry him because she wanted a quiet life Loooool

      • Still_Sarah says:

But Chelsey Davy HAS gone on to have a quiet life, mostly back in Africa. She has given up being a lawyer and designs eco-jewelry in Zimbabwe. She is rarely in the press.

      • Jaded says:

A bitter liar? Hardly. She couldn’t stand the thought of having to bend to the will of the Firm. She’s happily running an ethically sourced jewelry company, has a boyfriend and isn’t being hounded by the gutter press. Sounds like a pretty nice life she’s carved for herself.

      • Ginger says:

Exactly, OH. You don’t date a royal for as long as they have if you hate the press. And Chelsy still uses the press when she needs to. Just because we don’t see her all of the time doesn’t mean she doesn’t use them. Also, I think she still lives in the UK.

But yeah, Kate was a stalker, no doubt.

      • Jaded says:

@Ginger – how does Chelsy “use the press”? If to promote her business then why not? And she and Harry broke up a number of times before the final break-up because she couldn’t handle the negative attention. She divides her time between a home in London and another in Zimbabwe, is that against the law? Please get your facts straight instead of making stuff up.

      • Ginger says:

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with her splitting time between SA and London?? I just thought she lived in London full time lol Sorry if that bothered you.

And yes she does use the press when it suits her. She was on the cover of some magazine saying she “couldn’t cope with the attention” Nothing mentioned about her jewelry line. You may think I am making stuff up and that’s fine. But I don’t think I am. I don’t have to be a fan of Chelsy.

      • Ginger says:

Also, I can’t forget the paparazzi photos of her making out with a guy (to show how totally over Harry she is) after Harry and Meghan’s wedding. The Daily Mail photographer said he got the call from Chelsy herself. So, yes she does use the press when it suits her.

      • Beach Dreams says:

@Ginger: There’s also her IG fiasco where she allowed racist, hateful comments about Meghan to linger but deleted any comment defending her. She’s certainly a piece of work.

    • notasugarhere says:

After the engagement, she was overheard saying she wanted to be like the Queen Mum. Seen but not heard and beloved by everyone. That was her goal – marry in, live the life, do little to nothing publicly. She and Carole fit part of the profile – the demanding, prickly, bitchy, controlling force behind the scenes the Queen Mum was.

      • BeanieBean says:

Except the Queen Mum was quite active publicly when she was actually Queen (Queen Consort). Kate must have overlooked that part.

      • Jaded says:

The Queen Mum was very involved, both behind and in front of the scenes. Her decision to stay in London during the war was one of the things people loved about her. During the Blitz she and the King regularly visited bombed areas to see the damage caused and during one visit in September 1940 she said she felt she could ‘look the East End in the face’.

I guess Kate’s waiting for another war so she can shine like the Queen Mum. Certainly isn’t happening with the war on COVID-19 though.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate is ignoring how her husband has to die before she can stand back and let her child be monarch. The Queen Mum didn’t hide away when she was consort and WWII was going on. And it was by staying in London during the blitz that the Queen Mum built up the respect that she had in later years.

Where has Kate been during covid? Hiding in Anmer or KP? Occasionally zooming? She hasn’t exactly put herself out to help others during this crisis.

  6. Snuffles says:

Her life is like a posh version of Gypsy Rose Lee. Someone should turn it into a musical!

    • Mumbles says:

Yes, Carole is Mama Rose. And I guess Pippa is baby June?

The whole thing is laughable. She was living with him within a year of starting uni. And as was pointed out above, she could have married her City banker/hedge fund guy any time in the many years she waited around.

Lol that even her “friend” admits that Kate is a woman of no interests or ambitions other than getting married, having kids, and owning stuff.

  7. carmen says:

It’s funny how this friend has come out of the woodwork at this late stage. Seriously, how many articles have there been over the years where journalists told the story of Kate chasing William. Friends have spoken in the past as well and this one contradictory story is bs imo

    • Digital Unicorn says:

From what I recall pretty much everyone she knew at St Andrews also said she stalked him and the getting close to him was all she talked about.

The relationship has never been the great romance she and Carole have tried to front it was – Kate made herself available to him and made it know she’d put up with all his BS and that’s why men like him keep women like Kate around. They like having a doormat who will tolerate their cheating etc.

      • Seraphina says:

I also read (not sure if true) he would “test” her to see how far she’s go to be with him. If that is true, he has deeper issues than anyone every dreamed.
Also, I read that the famous runway outfit was a last minute change when she found out Wills was in the audience.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Yeah I’ve read that as well and yeah I believe the organiser of that fashion show confirmed she changed it when she knew he was in the front row.

Like a classic abuser they will always push to see how far they can take things.

      • notasugarhere says:

She was said to have bedded a few of his friends first, making her way through the set as Pippa did a few years later. After that, the friends told William she was discreet and willing as a side piece. He cheated on his girlfriend with Kate for months, because the girlfriend wanted to wait for marriage before having sex.

    • Ginger says:

I didn’t know that Kate had friends.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

She did, she had a small group of friends at Uni but they all feel away during the great Prince hunt when they got tired of her dumping them to run after William. I read a story that she was in the wedding party of a friend and pulled out at the last moment to go away on holiday with William who called her at the last moment. Same story with the rowing competition – she pulled out at the last moment when William beckoned her.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        It’s Carole. It’s always Carole.

      • RoyalBlue says:

she did, and they all got into their first choice university of edinburgh until kate ditched them to chase the prince.

      • KW says:

a top CEO does not have friends. Now I know what a top CEO she was – TOP CEO STALKER.

      • Gail says:

🤣🤣. She staked him period. No one gives up Edinburgh university, then applies to St. Andrews and takes a gap year when they hear that a man is unless they are indeed a stalker with an insane mom leading the way. Furthermore what kind of woman or mother does that? Social climbing STALKER

      • Gail says:

Can I also say that her hubby will continue to trim rose bushes because Kate will never leave him . She abs her family want that queendom to badly . So he gets to have his side pieces as long as they remain secrets and she gets to wear the Crown Jewels . Why do you think that he had Covid abs she lives with him happily married and yet she didn’t get it ???? Science people. Willy and Catherine the great probally don’t live together. This marriage is for public appearances and to provide heirs for the monarchy

  8. Sofia says:

You know what? I can believe that Kate doesn’t want a public role and would be much happier if she could just live in her big house and shop all day. She’d very much like to be a lady who lunches and do engagements when she wants and if she wants. Not because she has to do them in order to justify her existence as a royal to the public

However, she married the Future Future King of a monarchy that calls itself “The Firm” and expects its senior royals to work. She had a decade to see what that would entail and whether or not it was worth it. In fact, one of the main PR I guess, when they got married was that Kate was one of the most prepared royal wife in decades.

She’s also now had a decade of marriage (well close to it) to define a public role, get some interests and do something but she hasn’t. Not much anyways.

    • Chaine says:

“ doesn’t want a public role and would be much happier if she could just live in her big house and shop all day”—omg she is the Melania of the Royal fam 🤭

    • Kalana says:

But she also doesn’t want anyone else to have that role either. She wants to define it by what she chooses to do or rather chooses not to do. And fix it in the press to have everyone praise her anyway. She’s incredibly egotistic and self-absorbed.

Engagements are fine if it’s tennis, sailing or visiting the set of Downton Abbey.

And yes, she is very much Melania.

  9. G says:

i think kate gets bad rap (before i get trounced by people)

williams parents marriage f’ed him up i think he would have married her earlier if not for his parents marriage. i also think he kept going back to kate and keeping her hopes there obvs they got married but i think he was kinda of dick during their datin yrs

same for harry he went through a bunch of long term relationships before meghan . again because he wanted to make sure he was making the right decision

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

William was messed up by the establishments treatment of the heir.

William publicly announced he wanted to be free of Kate. His only option with pressure from his family was Kate.

I’m not big on giving pity parties to adults with entitlement issues.

      • notasugarhere says:

Charles gave him the same talk Philip gave him. Dump her or marry her, but you’re ruining her and our reputation by stringing her along. William dumped her, danced on tables, then got back together with her because she was convenient.

    • Mignionette says:

I disagree with this assessment. If one thing is true when Windsor men know they know and wife up pretty quickly. When they drag it out the way Bill and Eddie did, then often there is something underfoot.

I think Bill made Kate wait bc he wasn’t sure. I think Bill wanted an Aristo until he realised that the world had moved on since his mother’s time and the Aristo’s no longer wanted to marry into the BRF after the horrible spectacle of Diana. Kate and more noticeably Kate’s experiences have solidified that amongst the Aristo set.

The way Edward in particular made Sophie wait so long just because ‘the papers kept talking about it’ was just horrible as she was already in her 30’s and there was pressure on her to produce and heir and a spare. She ended up having a very difficult 1st pregnancy and birth and then struggling to conceive the second time. I think Eddie would have been happy never getting married, but that for some reason was not an option, even though he is so far down the line of succession.

People are saying this will blow over, but it won’t. Notice that with each generation the Royals are forced to marry partners ‘lower down the ranks’ and even commoners to secure partners. In Chucks generation that was often the Equiary’s daughter and people who were untitled but Royal adjacent (i.e. Fergie, Sophie etc).

Flash forward and nearly all of the Queens grand children have married commoners who often have zero connection to the family. Beatrice being the only exception. It is that shift which upset the balance behind the scenes as they now have to not only socialise with people they would have traditionally considered way down the pecking order but now are having children with them.

Diana was descended from established Aristocratic stock and had even a higher standing than the Queen mother who was only very recent Scottish Aristocracy. When you consider how horribly the BRF treated her, I am not surprised that Aristo fathers are hiding their daughters.

The whole institution is antiquated, inhumane and not fit for purpose. It needs to go.

      • notasugarhere says:

Louise was Sophie’s second pregnancy. She had an ectopic pregnancy in December 2001. Discovered when she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. She knew she was expecting but didn’t know it was ectopic.

Beatrice’s husband is not anything special, no high ranking aristo or royal. She has essentially married a commoner, particularly when it comes to the UK and their view of foreign titles.

      • Nic919 says:

Beatrice’s husband is in line to inherit an Italian title that has no meaning because Italy is no longer an aristocracy. It’s like the French who pretend they are inheritors to the French monarchy.

      • Mignionette says:

@notasugar – sorry yes I meant to say 1st baby. And even with Louise she had complications and they both nearly died.

And yes Edo’s title is all but meaningless but notice how the PR around him was firmly about his Aristo connections and titles. I am pretty sure Betty was happy that Bea had snagged one of good stock despite his previous history that any other BRF partner would have been crucified for.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’m sure Betty thinks Bea’s husband is far, far beneath her. QEII has a strong distain for other royals of ‘the Continent’, so Edo’s ‘title’ would be meaningless to her.

    • notasugarhere says:

A bunch of long-term relationships? Harry dated Chelsy off and on for seven years. Cressida was 18 months casual at best. She would have jumped at the chance to be royal but Harry didn’t want to marry her.

William chooses to cheat on Kate; he doesn’t have a problem with infidelity. You know where Charles and Camilla were welcome to have their affair? To have their meet ups and weekends together? The rented home of their friends the Van Cutsems. Name of that home? Anmer Hall. Yep, William chose to accept that house as the place he’d live with wife and kids.

William has no problem with infidelity, either his parents or his own. He is also nearly 40 years old. Time to stop blaming his abusive behavior, cheating, and laziness on his parents.

  10. Jo73c says:

Also LMAO re: Pippa the hot-shot city lawyer!

    • Esme says:

That would be a great sitcom: PippaTips for lawyers! “When planning a career as a lawyer, try to gain admittance to a law school”

    • Nic919 says:

That line confirmed for me that Carole is the friend. Pippa has never shown any signs of wanting a real job.

      • notasugarhere says:

This. The unnamed friend is Carole trying to cleanup the facts of the Middleton’s stalking campaign.

    • Kalana says:

One of Kate’s few accomplishments is how intensely and successfully she stalked William. She was a teenager who was determined to keep herself near him no matter what (Diana parallel. Kate loves those, right?).

So, take that away and Kate is a silly empty person who spent her twenties drinking crack babies at Boujis and Mahiki and shopping and going on vacation while waiting for her boyfriend to marry her. Meanwhile they kept breaking up and she even got herself in the papers clubbing right after they broke up in 2007 so she could publicly fight with him.

Being a golddigger may not be an honorable occupation but it shows some sense of self and purpose. Kate loves taking care of people and dogs? Did she steadily volunteer or anything? Or in ten years, are there only I think less than five things we can point to showing her doing anything and finishing it?

      • Mumbles says:

Imagine calling a drink after a poor little baby born with and suffering from a terrible addiction, and being callous enough to order them. What truly horrible crowd they all are.

      • Mignionette says:

        “Crack babies”

*clutches pearls* – I can only imagine the Aristo racist jokes they cracked whilst necking the crack babies.

      • L84Tea says:

I always think of all those photos of her constantly getting papped carrying a weekend bag. With as many times as she took off at Willie’s beck and call, I bet she is a champion bag/suitcase packer! Then again, she probably had a stand-by bag ready to go at all times–one for boating/beachware, one with wellies and coats for stalking, etc. Always accompanied by a grand assortment of wedges.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

@L84Tea – one of my friends referred to it as a ‘shag bag’.

  11. FancyPants says:

The most unbelievable part of this story is that Kate ever had any genuine friends.

  12. Zaya says:

Lol. Elle just published an article about how Lacey said KM stalled PWT.

  13. HK9 says:

Firstly Kate doesn’t have friends. Secondly-she did so stalk him….

  14. Digital Unicorn says:

Pretty much all of the RR and commentators said she stalked him with help from Mummy. How convenient that this story comes out now, after 20 yrs of stories like this – either this is a hit piece, a Carole plant to get sympathy for Top CEO (after the Lacey book) or getting out in front of a new story,

  15. Mindy_Dopple says:

Umm… Pippa projected to be a hot shot city lawyer because she takes after her mother. I think with that line right there we know EXACTLY which camp this story came from. Mama Middleton is trying to spin the story but why?? As they say, it’s been 10 yrs since their ENGAGEMENT, not even their courtship which is another 10 years am I right? Either way, are they trying to push back because perhaps William has decided to focus on this little piece and lash out at Kate lately?

    • ABritGuest says:

There was an article in Elle which talked about Kate being ‘strategic’ in pursuit of William based on Lacey’s recent book. Think that’s what’s provoked this Fail article.

What I found interesting was Richard Eden from the Fail on twitter talking about Kate talking to him after one of the break ups. The Middletons have been press friendly so it was funny how last year they were praising them for discretion- unless being discreet is just talking to favoured press outlets

  16. TeaForTwo says:

Is there a single photo on file of William looking at Kate with any affection whatsoever? Ever?

There are So. Many. Photos. of Harry looking adoringly at Meghan, and vice versa. So where are the photos of William doing same to Kate at any point in their long courtship or marriage?

    Anyone?

    • notasugarhere says:

The nicest William has been to her publicly was when they knew they were expecting a girl. There might be some public photos of him not ignoring her in public at that time.

      • Nic919 says:

He was noticeably bad when she was pregnant with Louis. The photo of heavily pregnant Kate going down the airplane steps alone while William is up ahead talking to others and not looking back or offering help is very telling.

      • notasugarhere says:

He often acted that way during the PGTips pregnancy too. I put it down to him caring far more about a female child than any other.

      • Sid says:

Nic, I wanted to bop William with a hat after seeing that picture. He always comes across as so inconsiderate of her. And then that picture from the Queen’s Jubilee flotilla where he left her behind on the barge and walked off with the umbrella. His baby brother had to yell for him to take notice that he had left his wife behind.

  17. DS9 says:

The lies we’re telling this morning…

  18. vanna says:

I disagree on one point only: Kate is perfect for the royal life with the BRF. She’s content with doing the bare minimum and will not try to be different or even dare to improve things. She’s an ideal extension for William. No backspine and a doormat that will not fight but rather adjust as required.

    • notasugarhere says:

Not really. Do the courtiers wasnt her biddable? Yes. But Kate is extremely lazy, even by royal standards, and that they don’t want. Royals set their own schedules, not the courtiers. She and William barely do more than the Gloucesters or the Duke of Kent. That makes the whole BRF look bad.

      • A says:

@Nota, I disagree. I don’t think that it makes the BRF look bad, and even if it does, they don’t care about that. They want to prop up the Queen, Prince Charles, and then William, in that order. Everyone else is expected to fall in line in service of those three core individuals. They won’t ever accept Kate doing more or overshadowing William in any respect. This is not to let Kate off the hook–she goes along with this shit because it suits her just fine, and that is enough of an indictment of her in my opinion.

But whatever Kate does, it has to be to make William look good. Nobody pays attention to the Gloucesters or the Duke of Kent, which works in their favour, and the press certainly isn’t rearing to hold William and Kate accountable for anything in the last ten years that I’ve seen. Nothing substantial and with teeth, that would really make them change their ways, even though the press absolutely has that power too.

There is tons to criticize Kate for–like I said, she chooses to go along with this stuff and sets no agenda of her own and takes no initiative. But to act like that’s not how the BRF the institution prefers it is overlook the full facts. They would much rather do less and get more than anything else, no matter what anyone in the public has to say about it. The fact that the press covers up for William, constantly, that they have flat out stated that they are on the side of white supremacy and racism in the last few years and will use the RF to prop up those ideals, and that the RF is a willing participant for the benefit of the gutter press, the monied press barons, and the Tory govt, all in exchange for good publicity at the expense of their own family members–the press has to shoulder the blame for this too. They are mealy-mouthed and insufficient in their criticism of William and Kate, and the institution, and that empowers the laziness in a big way.

      • Becks1 says:

I think Kate not working only makes the BRF look bad if people think about it. Like maybe you think she’s doing the normal royal workload until you actually look at the numbers.

No, Kate can’t overshadow William. But she can certainly work more than she does – and William can work a lot more than HE does. their workload is really pathetic considering he’s the Future Future King.

But the press does cover for them – they were starting to get less patient with the workload but then Meghan came along and now the press covers for them again.

      • notasugarhere says:

Both W&K being lazy is a problem, one that the courtiers need to solve. Kate couldn’t outshine anyone, not even bland William, even if she tried.

Many royals are boring, which is fine as long as they work. That’s the point of the bread and butter engagements. Those are what keep the sheep appreciating the monarchy, regardless of whether or not the Tories are pulling strings or controlling the royal narrative. The support of the people is required to keep the circus paid.

Kate as the party girl who never worked, and still refuses to work now? Bland, unprofessional, and lazy? Yes, that is a problem when they’re trying to project an image of modernity to a crumbling and hurting nation.

Years ago l used to follow a Royal blog called Royal Accolades, ‘no longer online sadly ‘ if anyone can find it , its fascinating reading, but the person who wrote this was definitely in de Windsor circle, even de night before William engagement was announced they told us readers that there was a lot of work goin on behind de scenes for an announcement !!! Anyway this writer attended Prince Charles 60th birthday apparently Kate was there all day setting up etc but that night their was a lot of talk about Kate and William as de young reluctant Prince did not introduce Kate as a girlfriend but a friend !!! Some time later they where engaged ….. For years de writer stated that none of de Middleton’s esp Carole knew what was going on with de two of them, but every Christmas they thought he would propose esp for Kate’s birthday !! But right up to their engagement the writer really didnt think that they where anything but friends with benefits !!!!!

  20. February-Pisces says:

She plotted, planned, stalked, waited, got dumped, waited some more then secured the bag. I think kate was in love with the idea of falling in love with a prince and when she met Willie and realised he was a dickhead, being seen as his GF gave her some sort of self worth. I think when she was growing up she was probably always in the shadow of her sister or other girls at school and felt insecure and invisible. But being with William meant she finally became ‘someone’, that she is the chosen one. She doesn’t want to go back to being nobody. She wanted to be a princess but doesn’t want to do the dreary bread and butter engagements. But she has no problem working when it comes to Wimbledon or attending the BAFTA’s.

This ‘friend’ story is very convenient, I thought ‘friends’ didn’t talk to the press. I think more of Kate’s stalking will come out once Willie dumps her, then he can claim he was ‘used’ and that she never really loved him.

    • So_LacVert says:

Yeah, I thought having your friends talking to the press was very “hollywood”. No true royal would ever do that *eyes rolling out of my head*.

  21. MerlinsMom1018 says:

I think Kate looks so much better with some actual weight on her instead of how gaunt and tired and thin she looks now
    That’s all I got

  22. Lizzie says:

Reminds me of the Tatler Catherine the Great article followed by denials. No one believes the denials and it keeps the story front page.

  23. Amy Bee says:

I thought Kate’s friends don’t talk to the press. This seems to have come from the Middletons.

  24. leftie says:

Kate definitely set her cap for him…

  25. A says:

    1) Congrats on Kate for retooling her PR efforts to rely on old school friends from Marlborough, rather than the fake ass crowd of posh toffs from St. Andrews.

    2) ‘All Catherine ever wanted was a husband, a house in the country, loads of kids, a dog and a kitchen with an Aga.’ Ok, I don’t doubt somehow that she wanted all of these things. And that she did want to be domestic and be in a position where she can “take care of everyone.” I’ll bet that’s how she still fancies herself, as that nice little mumsy type who’s just a pair of ovaries and some bangs (to quote John Oliver).

That is what she’s always wanted–but she’s also always wanted to be Queen too. And she’s always been incredibly ambitious on that front. She wanted both, which is precisely why she’s out there in Norfolk, cosplaying as your average SAH mum-of-three. I’ll bet that’s part of the bargain Willy struck with her–he can flunk out on his marriage as much as he likes, and she, in exchange, can play house as much as she wants in lieu of being in the public eye, like her role requires. He’ll put her up in a nice little country home with 15 bedrooms and an Aga that she probably doesn’t know how to fucking use, she can do the school run and queue for coffee, get the full common peasant experience like we’re all supposed to be convinced she REALLY wants, all while enjoying the power and status that she gets from being the wife of the FFK. For Kate, this is what it means to “have it all.”

So again, I have to give her some points for reworking the PR efforts here so that it’s not completely embarrassing for her I guess. Good on getting a Marlborough friend, that way people can be like, “Oh they go WAY back.” And good on putting out approximately 1/2 of the narrative, so people can’t be like, “Haha, fucking please Waity.” Insert eye roll here.

  26. Katie says:

As much as I’d absolutely love an empowerment story like this, it honestly does not look like Kate was ever cool about Prince William(( like, I WISH this were true, wouldn’t it be something? that they ended up together because he ran out of options and she was like eh, the evil you know…

  27. SO Dumb says:

I uSED to be such a Stan for her 🙁

  28. Lizzythe2 says:

While yes, it does seem she pursued him. She was not the only one. From what I remember, applications by females increased when it was announce that William would attend.

And out of all those other females who threw themselves at William, Kate was the one that he chose. I really don’t see this as a big deal.

I see plenty of women throwing themselves at sports figures and sometimes something comes of it, other times nothing.

Pretty sure in cases like these most females maybe are just hoping for a date so it’s something they can brag about later on. The fact that she fell in love with him obviously change all that for her. She had to decide she wanted royal life. I’m sure she would have been perfectly happy ending up with one of Williams rich friends having a quieter life and not subjected to the kinds of things she has to deal with now. But as my grandmother used to say. Dammed love!

    • Becks1 says:

She did nothing for the better part of a decade while she waited for him to propose. He dumped her multiple times. This isn’t some great love story.

      • notasugarhere says:

It is transactional. He gets a wife who enables cheating, she gets title and status. Lately there doesn’t appear to be affection much less love in that marriage.

    • notasugarhere says:

‘Now my problem with William on this is I think he likes Kate very much, I think he loves her, but I think even now he’s not in love with her. But he wants her there because the most important thing is he can trust her.’ ‘I think the prize for Kate of being the Princess of Wales and then Queen, I think she will put up with anything that’s thrown at her.’ – James Whittaker

    • notasugarhere says:

How fortunate she fell in love with him years before they’d met, back when she started the stalking plan via Downe, Marlborough, the lies about bullying, and the sympathy entrance to the Eton sister school. The year after the huge influx of applications. The stalking of his friends to get in with the group, to get in to the parties at Highgrove, to get on the approved list for the same dorm at St Andrews. They didn’t meet at Uni, they met at the parties (and Killing Kittens?) two years before.

This was a Middleton family project, not a love story. She stood by while he cheated for a decade, while he cheats now. Because she wants a title more than she wants self respect or a faithful husband. He finally married her when the PR pressure got to him, and when the Midds threatened to cut him off from free holidays and Mummy Carole. Hurrah for Kate?

    • Lizzie says:

Apparently he chose a few others who turned him down while Waity latched on for a decade.
I find it sad and pathetic to have no pride whatsoever allow a man to walk all over you and beg for more. But to each their own.

    • Jezebel says:

Thank you for this. While I know this site skews anti-Kate, on this one I have to say “and? Good for her?” I say the same thing about my girl Meg when she set her sights on her future and all that entailed. Good for ladies who go for what they want in life, be it a title or love or just a damn good time. Kate doesn’t bring a lot to the table to defend her for, and we can all pile on her for lots, but this? Nah. Good for you, girl. Get that title.

      • Nic919 says:

What a great message for little girls! You go girl! You sacrifice your personality and soul just to get a man and a title. It’s totally worth it and not mercenary at all. And it totally means that you will have a perfect life once you have the ring, just ignore the entire history of cheating and misery from all the previous generations. Who cares if he treats you with disdain in public for the world to see. You got the tiara and some ribbons! Yay !

      • notasugarhere says:

Exactly, Nic919. Kate and her actions are pathetic, not laudable.

    • lili says:

Exactly. So many students threw themselves at William and for some reason she chose Kate.

      • notasugarhere says:

He was dating someone else. Kate was the sidepiece who was willing to provide services. That’s what she was for years, the second choice for a convenient shag while he chased other women. And he still bedding other women now.

  29. Scorpion says:

Lmfao, talk about revisionist history, what a load of horse shite. Pippa wanted to become and lawyer and work in the City. Is that why she majored in English and then got a job as a party planner. The whole family is feckless.

  30. Becky says:

I don’t think Kate is ill suited for royal life I think she is exactly what they want. She’s pretty, loves having kids, is willing to stay in the background and allow William to shine.

There are two amazing scene in the crown that describe this to perfection. One with the queen, margret and Anne and another with Philip and Diana

    • notasugarhere says:

They don’t want lazy and inept, nor do they want her tacky family that won’t stop trading on royal connections.

  31. RoyalBlue says:

Kate looked so much healthier in that top photo.

  32. candy says:

An often left out little anecdote is the trip Kate took to Chile to be in the exact same posh volunteer program as William, not to mention pursuing him to Italy, and eventually Scotland. I don’t think this would have worked for most people, but because St. Andrews was a really small university, and her family money could get her just-barely into his circles, plus paying to live in the same dorm. The rest is history.

    • Kalana says:

When I read about Chile, that’s when the penny dropped for me and I realized Kate stalked William. Going thousands of miles away from home in the hope that she might end up near William is shockingly desperate. More so than attending the same university.

I wonder if Kate even wanted to study Art History and how annoyed she was when William switched to geography.

Kate would always have married someone with money. Why was a title so important to her? She’s not even close friends with any aristos besides Emilia Jardine Patterson.

  33. Lizzie says:

Um, how is expecting Pippa to be a hot shot lawyer because she takes after her mother? Did I blink and miss Carole’s law career? Delusions of grandeur.

  34. lili says:

When she was younger she had a personality in her pictures. The “firm” took a toll on her.
It’s amazing how royals are all marrying “down” now, literally everyone.
Having said that we don’t know the whole story and for some reasons Kate got William in his uni days when his options were limitless. He was so hot back in the day. Soaring number of application shows that.
So what I mean is not excusing either party but to point out she CHOSE Kate and if later on there were problems he was always back. Convenience or whatever but it was his choice.
I wonder if Kate sometimes think “was it worth it” or 3 kids are enough for her and make it all worth it. Pippa would be way better for William and public work I believe, but she’s less doormat..

  35. MegJ says:

Just checking but it’s okay for Kate’s friend to talk to media but not Meghan’s? White…I mean right.

  36. Krystina says:

Someone needs to explain to me what an Aga is.
