The Sussexes’ Netflix deal is being bashed again because of ‘The Crown’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry visit Auwal Mosque in Cape Town

The Royal Rota truly has nothing on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex anymore, so the royal reporters are left regurgitating old grievances which they previously litigated months or even years ago. When Harry & Meghan’s Netflix deal was revealed several months ago, one of the ways the British press tried to attack them was through, bizarrely, the fact that Netflix produces the popular and award-winning series The Crown. The Crown is not a documentary, and The Crown gets a lot of stuff wrong about the royal family, although (I would argue) the show portrays the broad strokes correctly. Harry and Meghan have nothing to do with The Crown – they are not writers or producers or consultants. Their Netflix deal is completely separate. But that didn’t stop British people from arguing “how could he?!?!” because something something The Crown makes the monarchy look bad. It’s all kind of asinine, but here we are. Emily Andrews at the Mail had an absolute hissy fit about it this weekend. Some highlights:

The Crown portrays the royals as terrible people, oh no: When Camilla is portrayed as selfish, scheming and poisonous; Charles as egotistical, callous and weak, their love affair destroying the innocent Diana, viewers are encouraged to believe this is true. But these are real people, living complex lives, who have been shabbily reduced to dramatic stereotype to titillate the paying viewer. No wonder the Royals are angry. ‘Never complain’ has been one of the Queen’s noblest articles of faith. Over the years, though, it has been sorely tested.

How could the Sussexes be involved with Netflix, huh?? But never before have members of her own family been associated with those ‘trolling’ the Monarchy. The unedifying impression is that, by having signed a deal with Netflix, Prince Harry and his former Hollywood star wife Meghan are seen to be lavishly benefiting from the company’s distortion of the truth about the Royal Family. Their reported $100 million (£78 million) deal with the US streaming giant will help give Harry financial freedom but it has raised eyebrows back home – particularly among those close to Charles and William. How can he take money from a company that traduces his family? That unfeelingly recreates the Irish terrorist bomb that killed Lord Mountbatten and three others? That mawkishly picks over the carcass of Harry and William’s parents’ bitter marriage break-up like a vulture?

A genuine scoop about H&M’s Netflix deal: What’s more, The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the Netflix documentary they have discussed making goes beyond the ‘inspirational family programming’ they initially promised. Instead, it will centre on the couple’s first year after splitting from the Royal Family, their new life in California and the reasons why they fled Britain. According to a well-placed source, the couple have video footage from when they left their Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage, for the final time and their ‘farewell tour’ at Buckingham Palace. Their representatives are thought to have pitched the footage – including personal videos recorded as they stepped back from Royal life – during negotiations with Netflix.

William & Charles are closer now: One positive side-effect from the couple’s abrupt departure, though, is that William and Charles – who have not always seen eye to eye – have been brought closer. Father and son are united behind a common aim – to protect the Monarchy’s reputation and ensure its continuation and relevance.

The Sussexes’ Remembrance photos. Back in Britain, senior Royals viewed this PR stunt as insensitive. Remembrance Sunday is treated as one of the most important dates in the calendar – an opportunity that is a ‘privilege’ for those living to pay tribute to the dead who sacrificed their lives for a greater good. Commemoration services are not about the individual. Harry, as an ex-serviceman, should have known better than to ‘weaponise Remembrance’ as part of his petty war with the rest of the Windsors. This episode had further corroded the relationship between William and Harry. William models himself on his grandmother, and after initially struggling to embrace full-time Royal duties, now recognises the good his platform can achieve. Harry has opted out – with financial reward – leaving Charles and William to pick up the pieces.

[From The Daily Mail]

A few things: one, the Windsors are really nervous about this season of The Crown, huh? They’re worried it will remind everyone of how horribly they treated the young Diana. Two, Harry wasn’t trying to weaponize anything, he was trying to pay respect to the military and those who gave their lives in service of their country. He was denied the opportunity to pay that respect in the UK, so he found another way.

Three, the information about the Sussexes’ possible documentary would have landed differently if William hadn’t just done a documentary where HE arranged for cameras to follow him around for the better part of a year, so he could pretend to be an environmentalist. Four, William didn’t seem to have any issue with Netflix when he did the most to help Sir David Attenborough promote his latest documentary which, oh right, was produced by Netflix and streamed on Netflix. Five, it’s completely bizarre to hear a royal commentator – who profits from picking over the sundry carcasses of the Windsors past and present – blast The Crown for doing the same.

Those idiots will find any excuse to bash H&M. They’re pissed off they can’t control and milk them for revenue they way they did with C&D (until they didn’t), and so they get pissed off about stupid shit. In the end, their own racist, closed minded behaviour will be the cause of their own downfall and I am here for it.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Luckily the bashing is reaping untold benefits for Netflix. It made a lot of people wonder why this new series is upsetting the RF so much and in turn it’s made them want to know exactly why. Also, bashing H and M equals engagement which keeps their names in the press, ergo more money from Netflix as people hate watch what they do. The script practically writes itself.

      • Eleonora says:

        I know.

If they had not made a fuss, just watchers of the Crown would have watched. Now many more people want to know what the fuss is about.

  2. Sofia says:

This “they shouldn’t have signed a deal with Netflix because of The Crown” is stupid 1) The Crown will most likely air the final season in 2023 so it’s ending in 3 years anyways 2) they would have complained about any deal (I mean if it was Disney+ where they signed the deal, they probably would have complained about Hamilton or something) the Sussexes signed because it signals that they’re not coming back and have no reason to.

    • lola says:

They could have complained about the Lion King. Mufasa and Simba are not actual kings, so basically a direct attack against the British Crown!

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

They DID complain about Disney+ when Meg narrated the Elephant doc.

If H&M set up a shelter to help homeless people in the Pandemic, the BM and their trash following would complain about that, too. Think of the flack they got for delivering Meals on Wheels and handed out food. (Never mind Charles’ Prince’s Trust works with homeless youth, too).

WHATEVER M&H do, the BM and the great unwashed will find a way to bitch about it. Period.

    • Lizzie says:

If it’s so bad then she should demand Baldy apologize for all the Netflix PR he did.

  3. Enny says:

Wait…now HARRY’S the petty one in that family? 🤔

    • Becky says:

Let’s be real they are all petty every single one, they are raised to be

      • Gail says:

I can’t stop laughing about this things this so-call journalist for that bird cadge liner of a paper has the nerve to Write. I’d seriously hilarious. Has she no sense of self awareness? You work for the paper and have written abs are still writing utter nonsense and lord about a member of that same royal family that you accuse the crown of doing. Or maybe Harry doesn’t count as royals because his wife is the black stain in the white monarchy. Then she further went on to say how Harry made a disgraceful show in honoring the fallen on Remembrance Sunday, really? He is the only ons in that attention grabbing set of royal do- nothings that has a right to honor soldiers because he serve his country who then became ungrateful and attacked him . William didn’t seem to mind Netflix when it got him 10 more minutes of fame to look like he cares about something other than trimming rose bushes . And please him and Charles aren’t closer and yes charles does do his work, he always has . William isn’t picking up any slack left by Harry because William still does nothing and still falls short of his father and aunt work wise And he is young . Megan Harry got a legitimate job. They aren’t buying children, so no disgrace here . Please see randy Andy about that . Just get off Harry and Megan back and go jump off a bridge somewhere

  4. Em says:

Emily andrews has no scoop, she’s the same liar that wrote about Meghan’s baby shower including the guests and the games and the gifts she recieved before the shower actually happened. She’s a liar

    • Jegede says:

      Exactly.

      These people and their ‘scoops’.

They were caught off that the Sussexes signed the Netflix deal, bought their Montecito home, paid off Frogmore for an extended period e.t.c

But they just know what the Netflix deal entails.🙄🙄

    • Becks1 says:

I think she was set up with that scoop – the story was SO weirdly specific, not just like “its likely they did X” but so specific – I think the sussexes were trying to figure out who was leaking and fed some information to someone in the Cambridge camp who leaked.

  5. Becks1 says:

    Stay mad Emily.

I do like some of her shadiness though – the line about William struggling to embrace full time royal duties in particular – she is one who I think knows a LOT and I think one day she is going to let loose and its going to be interesting. Even the line about Charles and William being united behind a common goal – to maintain the monarchy – isn’t that what the Crown is about? How everything the family does is supposed to maintain the Crown (the monarch) and everything (and everyone) else comes in second. So Charles and William are just continuing the family tradition it seems.

    • Nic919 says:

Emily goes hot and cold on the Cambridges. She was one of the ones critical about Kate spending a ton of money in clothes and not working much until Meghan showed up. And I am sure she is pissed about being embarrassed by being given incorrect information from one of the Cambridge courtiers about Meghan’s baby shower.

She’s also been threatened more than once by Cambridge lawyers when she has done stories about Kate getting free gifts. So when there is a chance to exact revenge, I see her doing it.

      • Becks1 says:

I still think she is the one who leaked the accounting code from the Sun that indicated the payment to Christian Jones or whatever.

And wasn’t she the one who wrote the story about the dad-dancing (the one that had the headline “throne idle”) and she was also TICKED after the India/Bhutan trip. So while I don’t think she has love for the Sussexes, like you said, when she has a chance to exact revenge, I think she’ll take it.

      • Nic919 says:

She left the Sun quietly and didn’t start at the Sunday Mail until a few months after the Christian Jones stuff broke out. I think she definitely helped with making that connection known.

  6. MCV says:

Honestly the feel I have after watching The Crown is that the whole family are sociopahts because the way they behave is not normal, and their public actions confirm that too. Lots of young people don’t care about the royals but know about Diana especially after this series so I understand why they’re nervous. People are going to compare her treatment with Meghan and Harry.

    • Lemons says:

Yeah, I agree. This also seems to be more of a nurture situation than nature. They are creating these dysfunctional personalities who are procreating and raising more dysfunctional children in toxic environments. That is on the Queen.

      • Boxy Lady says:

Oh don’t dismiss Philip’s role in how their kids turned out. He was in charge of how they were raised so that the Queen could concentrate more on her royal duties.

  7. Teresa says:

At what point do they look in the mirror and see the reason for the negative stories is because they’ve been and acted in atrocious ways?

It is their fault Diana died. It’s their fault Andrew, a pedo, isn’t in prison. It is their fault Charles had to have affairs to be with the Wan he actually wanted. Own your pathetic choices.

    • equality says:

That’s what I thought. How did they not see this coming since it has all been written or televised before? Did they expect the series to gloss over it or to make everything appear to be Diana’s fault?

    • Becks1 says:

Right? Now of course some of this is dramatized and things are out of context etc.

But it seems that the basic facts are correct. And if a series about your family is going to be so bad for your PR, maybe you should think about how your family operates.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

The words accountability or responsibility are strangers to that family. This was a family that thought that the Andrew Panorama interview went well. He even gave the BBC crew a tour of the palace. They are out of touch, tone deaf, and amoral wrapped up in privilege.

    • FicklePickle says:

Minor correction: Charles had serious affairs with a bunch of different women IN ADDITION to Camilla. Koo Stark was one of them (also one of Andrew’s gfs), someone nicknamed Kanga, Lady Dale Tyron (not sure on the spelling), also there was some German aristocrat, aaand I can’t remember the names of the others. Diana was actually friends with Dale, even KNOWING about the affair between her and Charles. Camilla just seems to be the one that Charles was the closest friends with, and with the longest (off and on), so Diana used her as the focus of her hate.

  8. lola says:

Can’t wait for the next piece where they claim that Meghan is the headwriter for the Crown.

  9. Harper says:

Filmed footage of H&M moving out of Frogmore? How dare they! saith the Queen and Prince Phillip. Off with their heads! It’s a good thing The Crown reminded us of that behind the scenes documentary that Phillip pushed the family into filming back in the day because, you know, hypocrites.

    • equality says:

Or, more recently, there was William being followed by cameras for his nature film. And the supposed Sussex documentary has not even been aired to verify it even exists.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Not just followed for a year… and worked with David Attenborough, but thoroughly publicized it to the point of using all the kids in their home garden (with the same bench H&M had just been seen on in a vid), with George being given that Dino tooth from Malta (oopsie!). Willileaks even played with DA by switching Director Chairs with him (with their names on the back (!) to watch the show (how precious! how witty, William! BARF!)

  10. S808 says:

The Netflix deal must’ve upset them SO much. Oh to be a fly on the wall when they found out. It was bad enough H&M found a permanent residence, a beautiful estate, but a lucrative production deal? A deal they still don’t know the worth of even tho we’ve heard upwards of $150M? I know they were sick when they found out. These people can’t survive without royalty, so in their mind Harry and Meghan weren’t supposed to either. They wanted Harry & Meghan like Margaret, begging for purpose, for work to fill their time and not be alone with their thoughts.

    • lanne says:

I imagine a lot of broken crockery on the ground that servants had to sweep up. Garments rent and torn. Cups of tea unceremoniously dumped on the floor. I would PAY to watch them as they found out about the deal.

  11. ABritGuest says:

Emily recycling the reality tv series story that the Sussexes denied.

It really bugs me that the press can get away with this propaganda about Sussexes leaving for money rather than the firm working to drive Meghan (and by consequence Harry) out & turning down p/time model request.

And as I said on the other post, the Cambridges were fine with actively promoting a Netflix documentary just last month. So I think Netflix deal only bothers those like the press& within the Firm who didn’t want the Sussexes being financially independent

    • Totally agree ABritGuest ….. I watched the whole series yesterday. I think the basic broad strokes are there for everyone to watch….most bios reveal much more horrible behavior by both of them. I think Diana was so very young and thus most of the responsibility for how it all played out must belong to the firm, Charles, and Camilla. Charles may have been physically faithful…as he likes to give himself points for…., but he betrayed and emotionally abused her from the very beginning of their relationship, with every phone call, meeting, note, thought, and present to Camilla. There were definitely 3 of them in that relationship FROM THE MOMENT Charles brought Diana into it. And for Diana’s part, she had an astute ability to read emotional vulnerability in others and she set her cap for Charles and pretended to be someone she wasn’t (a love of country life, etc) and played her best game in achieving a proposal she thought would bring her a secure lifelong love…a fairytale. Where she really let herself down was the man she thought was a prince was actually a frog. If she had been older, more experienced, knowledgeable about the world she would have run as hard and fast as she could and not walked down that aisle. But if she had been those things, Charles would never have gone with it: he needed a naive, vulnerable virgin that wanted and believed in fairytales and Harlequin romance novel ‘happily ever after’ endings. She can be excused because she was a VERY young 18 and really ignorant. Charles was dishonest and manipulative and used her from the beginning ….to do his duty. And Camilla, well she wanted it both ways….her husband and her lover and certainly didn’t give a rat’s ass about Diana. Once Diana said I do, there was really no escape for her. I so wish she’d had the maturity, the psychological strength, and her family’s support to break the engagement. For my part, it makes me AGAIN wonder just what went on in that tunnel the night she died.

Thank God, Harry has gotten out. It seems for the rest of his life, his family will deem his every breath and action a betrayal. I’m so very glad he and Meghan have decided to live their best life! Out of Diana’s ashes, Harry rises like a Phoenix.

      • lanne says:

There was a special about Diana–her speech coach tapes I think. She was in her early 30s at the time they were recorded, and she still struck me as a young girl in her mannerisms. Lots of giggling. She was a really emotionally stunted person her whole life

      • Elizabeth says:

I doubt he was ever physically faithful. I’m sure he claims he was but… ha.

  12. Red Dog says:

I hope Harry and Meghan are enjoying this spectacularly shady season even more than the rest of us

    • Belli says:

I don’t think they will be enjoying it at all. Harry won’t like the reminder of how much his mother suffered.

What I think it will do is reinforce for them that they were 100% right to leave.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Agree Belli. And as much as I dislike PWT, I don’t think seeing his mother portrayed and suffering will be easy for him, either, but I DO think it affects Harry more, as he IS seeing the same story played out with his wife.

Charles, on the otherhand, may be sh%tting his knickers thinking ALL the work he’s done over the last 20 yrs or so to rehab Cam’s image (and his along with it) with a revised “fairy tale” (young love denied! instead of she didn’t WANT him then, she wanted APB, and she was MORE than content to just keep Charles in that tampon holder in her purse (🤢) and stay his mistress rather than marry him. She pretty much HAD to).

Yeah…This *last* part …I’m here for that. Let’s see Charles squirm. Bet he and Cam will lay low for a while. Bet they’re thrilled that the usual holiday stop-work is coming up!

      • Becky says:

@jan see I think this show drew bigger comparisons to Diana and Kate then anything to do with Megan.

They talked about how the marriage wasn’t allowed to end, that as the wife of the future king you’re to slip away and give up personality and wants. They also talked about the wasting away.

The press was horrible to Megan and so was much of the family (although I think they do that to everyone) but to me the crown drew comparisons to the Cambridge marriage.

  13. Mignionette says:

The more they complain about this Netfix deal, the more it becomes profitable for H&M. For once the BRF have no influence bc Netflix are an online global streaming giant and their bottom line is the Benjamin’s. Cue the political change of guard in the UK and Charles is flailing in the wind.

If Meg and Harry play their cards right and deliver, there will be plenty more money where that initial $150M came from and not just from Netflix.

Harry really is avenging his mother and doing all the things she never got to do and we love to see it.

    • Snuffles says:

Oh yes, when the Sussex’s finally release something on Netflix the British press will be literally frothing at the mouth screaming at the top of their lungs about how terrible it all is, that the entire planet will tune in because of all the free publicity.

No wonder the president of Netflix was grinning like a Cheshire Cat when he was talking about the deal.

  14. Oh says:

People on that island are really insane loool, it’s not Harry and Meghan’s fault that your royal family is dirty and dysfunctional

  15. Snuffles says:

Of course they’re mad. The Netflix deal was what gave Harry and Meghan the complete financial independence necessary to stay away from the monarchy permanently. Before that, everyone was banking on the Sussex’s struggling to survive outside The Firm and ultimately crawling back. They were SO sure of it.

Then the Netflix deal was announced and it was like a bucket of ice water on all of their plans. They’ve been in shock ever since.

    • Nyro says:

Honestly, I think the Netflix deal was the most iconic moment yet on the HM journey. Even more iconic than the day they said they were stepping down, because the tabloids already had the scoop on that from Will. But the way they dropped the Netflix deal news was just perfect and it hit the British establishment like a stake through the heart. They had just purchased the Montecito estate, which shocked the haters, who then turned around and spent all their time bitching about how they were gonna afford it and blah blah blah. They were pumping out story after story about how HM were desperately shopping a reality show and were being laughed out of meetings in Hollywood. And then BAM!! The Netflix deal. It was the best day ever. And they’re all still so shook, pressed and stressed to this day and will be for decades. Oh, to see their faces when that news hit. 😂

      • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

That was the moment Britain got slapped upside the head. Even if Meghan and Harry were to divorce someday, Harry will never return to the UK.

He has no reason to keep ties any longer and after the whole Armstice debacle, I hope he considers severing all contact.

  16. equality says:

It’s interesting how the BM sees the royal celebration of Remembrance Day as not being self-serving. If the royals wore regular clothing and only actually EARNED medals to salute the military, I would be impressed. When they dress up in unearned uniforms and medals when retired veterans are not allowed to wear earned uniforms, it looks trashy to me.

  17. SM says:

I watched first two episodes of the Crown on Sunday. And they are really up on the vibe that Royals are spoiled, entitled bunch out of touchvwith reality. And this season I get the sense the producers and creators decided to swith gears from tensions in the family to them settling into their own dysfunctional family dynamics. Which…I don’t know much about Royals and will consume them rather as an entertainment show but I have no trouble believing is accurate, given how dysfunctional they really are, probably Harry got that and rightfully ejected himself from it so his own family is not poisoned with that. Without giving anything away, I think in the second episode Margaret Thatcher makes the best assessment of them, they are not the representation of cultural and intellectual elite rather entitled elite, the kind of people who are born into position of power and never have to prove themselves. Also probably the fact that no one invested in really educating women in the first part of the 20 th century and Elizabeth never had a proper education her status could have provided resulted in the fact that the Royal family itself ruined the authority of the Crown and monarchy. I mean we all see now how much education, character and sensibilities can elevate the public life or diminish it. It is clear this family diminished it. And it is their fault, with resources and time at their disposal this is simply a matter of being curious and wanting to be better.

    • Nyro says:

I loved what Thatcher said about them in that scene because it is absolutely true. And it seems, from what I’ve read over the last four years, to be true about the British aristocracy in general. I damn near clapped when she said it.

      • Sid says:

Nyro, I got hype at what she said too, because it is just so, so, true. I hope more and more people realize it.

  18. Myra says:

Emily Andrews takes a lot of liberties and creative licence in her own articles so I am not sure why she is now upset with the one actual industry where it is okay (even encouraged) to take such liberties.

The entire family has been cavorting with the very media that has shown bias and outright hatred towards Meghan, why should Harry care that Netflix is being unflattering towards the lot of them? I bet you William will still jump on a Netflix deal if they approached him today with an offer. Anything to be Harry.

  19. VIV says:

“But these are real people, living complex lives, who have been shabbily reduced to dramatic stereotype to titillate the paying viewer.”

Take some time to reflect on your own article, Emily.

  20. Flamingo says:

Spoilers ahead. I binged the entire series yesterday. My thoughts on the love triangle: Charles looked like a whiney cry baby. He was so finicky and didn’t come off as a good father, especially to young William. He never really gave his relationship with Diana a chance as he was always with Camilla. Camilla actually didn’t come off that horribly. I get that she was having an affair, but she almost seemed charming. There are no innocent parties in an affair, but she didn’t seem to be intentionally cruel. Charles was obviously doing things to intentionally hurt Diana like leaving things out where she could easily find them. Diana was portrayed in a mostly positive light. It did touch on her affairs also, she was no school marm. The AIDS hugging was included and handled very well as was her struggle with eating disorders. It did also show that she could be quite a showboat. She was, we can argue this until the cows come in. It included her dance at the royal ballet, which really embarrassed Charles. She knew how to get under his skin, and vise versa. What a toxic relationship!

    • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I got the feeling she expected Charles to do the right thing and be honest. I think in a sense that is how it happened.

  21. Likeyoucare says:

How dare meghan and harry breath oxygen, there is not enough air for BRF to be share. Are they trying to kill the queen?

  22. Noki says:

No wonder Netflix will stop after season 6,imagine the rage William will have if they portray him as an adult. I am still holding out some hope that they continue to the present.

  23. paranormalgirl says:

“William models himself on his grandmother”

Obviously, since they’re both petty bitches.

    • Nyro says:

The fact that she and het ilk think this is a compliment and sounds good is stunning. They really live in a teeny tiny royalist bubble, don’t they.

  24. JT says:

I think part of Will’s jealousy over Harry’s Netflix deal is the fact that Harry will still be a young man enjoying his wealth. William won’t inherit everything until he’s about 60, barring some great tragedy. Meanwhile Harry has a beautiful estate that he actually owns, he has $150 million deal, and gets to live his life beholden to nobody while Will has to toe the party line forever.

    • scollins says:

      Great points!

    • Oh says:

William was wishing to humiliate Harry financially when he becomes king, but now his wishes are shattered… poor William he is now incandescent with rage loool

      • L4frimaire says:

I read somewhere that William will get upwards of $20 mil/ annum from the Duchy of Cornwall when he inherits it. Yet they begrudge Harry making a fraction of that with his production deal. Also, they act like Netflix is an allowance. This is money they have to work for and produce results.

    • Becks1 says:

I definitely think this is part of the jealousy – that Harry gets to be young, enjoy his money, go surfing, pursue projects that he finds interesting and worthwhile and not worry about the court circular numbers. But William will get money before he’s 60 – when the Queen dies William automatically becomes the Duke of Cornwall and that will give him a great deal of money.

  25. MsIam says:

Now even more people will want to watch, lol. I have to admit, I tuned out after their the first few episodes of the first season and I never went back to finish. But now, I’m thinking of jumping back in! Especially knowing that it pisses William and Charles off. And you know they are all hate-watching it in the palace.

    • Harla says:

@MsIam, same here! If it’s making the royals uncomfortable then I’m totally there for it.

    • Eleonora says:

You can start with season 4, if you want to jump right in

    • Becky says:

I watched it all yesterday and if it upsets William then it should upset Harry as it portrays the hell their mother went through. William is shown as a baby and a small child the most he does is sing with his mom and brother.

Frankly if watching it as Diana’s son if both William and hArry aren’t angry and hurt then they are garbage.

But I can’t understand why people would get enjoyment at watching someone be hurt seeing their mother suffer

  26. Nic919 says:

I watched the full season and it’s probably the best one or close to the first one. I expect Emmy nominations and likely BAFTAs as well. Even if some of the details aren’t accurate, the overall vibe feels correct and that is what is going to make things difficult for Charles.

    • Lady D says:

BAFTA awards that the president of the association will be on hand to pass out? LMAO if Willie ends up handing the top award to the people that created The Crown.

    • Lorelei says:

Too bad there probably won’t be a traditional ceremony for this year’s BAFTAs due to the pandemic because it would be very enjoyable to watch W&K awkwardly in the audience as The Crown wins a ton of awards.

  27. Amy Bee says:

The press and the royal family had no problems with Netflix until Harry and Meghan signed their deal. They should take the advice they gave to Harry and Meghan “never complain never explain”.

  28. Lemons says:

I don’t understand why this awful family and their equally disgusting employees don’t understand that Harry is FAMILY. Diana was his mother! He doesn’t want to see a fictional representation of her suffering. He doesn’t want to see a fictional representation of his family suffering either. People in the family being exposed is a source of embarrassment! (At least it would be for me.) No one wants their dirty laundry aired.

That being said, Netflix is home to more than just The Crown. There is so much content, in fact, that for me personally, I will be choosing to watch something else than stodgy royal drama. So, get your money, H&M.

  29. L4frimaire says:

It’s interesting how, with all the bluster and blunder and upset, the main person they are focused on is Prince Harry. Not, Charles, not Camilla, nor the others. No one gives a thought to William, even though these are his parents as well. They really want the Sussexes, especially Harry, to shoulder all the emotional burdens of this family and the monarchy, after they have so clearly shown they have put him outside the palace. Last I checked, the royal family have lawyers and so does Peter Morgan, the Crowns exec. producer. They can always have a chat about the series and the 1st amendment.

  30. Lizzie says:

The rf rotten treatment of quite a few more that Diana is depicted (I don’t want to spoil it) but of course the daily fail only focus on Diana. Piers is so gross.

    • Gail says:

Harry and Megan are finally doing what the Royal family and the British media and some of its public wanted from them all along . So very sorry Harry and Megan can’t help you, they are going to NEVER COMPLAIN, NEVER EXPLAIN 😂😂😂bye royal Felicias

  31. Becky says:

I don’t think the Crown makes the Royal family look that bad, they don’t Look great. They look human, incredibly damaged and cold but I also think it gives you insight into what it’s like. And why every single spare has issues, why the heirs are so needy and what is needed to survive.

I think if you’re part of an institution that tells you you’re special because of the family you’re born into and that specialness is dependent on when you’re going to have serious issues. The crown highlights it and it’s interesting and compelling.

I honestly finished this season and all I could think is what’s wrong with Kate and Megan that they would want to marry into that mess. I mean it’s not like it was a secret Diana told us!

    I loved this season.

  32. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

So the people who couldn’t be bothered to defend Meghan now wish to mount a defense based on their portrayals in The Crown? How does that feel for them?

  33. equality says:

They could look at it as Netflix is going to make money off of this whether Harry signs with them or not. At least by signing with them, he is getting part of the money back.

  34. blunt talker says:

Someone needs to do a takedown of Piers Morgan-he acting like a jilted lover slowly losing his mind-some of his fans or followers are telling him this-stop trying to beat a dead horse-your story about this couple is old and stale-more important things to talk about in this world-Harry and Meghan have made their choices he needs to move on in life too. One follower explained Piers obsession this way-you thought you had an inside tract to get information about the royals through Meghan-Harry put a stop to any more communication at the jump because he knew who Piers was and what he was about-now you are carrying a grudge against them because you were rejected in the royal fold of things-Buddy you need to get a new line of work and talk about things that would help others in England.-ENOUGH SAID.
