Michael B. Jordan is People Mag’s 2020 Sexiest Man Alive: great choice?

I still remember when we used to do those Hot Guy Friday posts – God, those were a pain in the ass – and CB would argue for Michael B. Jordan’s inclusion. This was years ago, before Black Panther, before Creed, before Fruitvale Station even. She liked him on Parenthood, and back then, I didn’t really see it. Fruitvale Station made me see it – it was a star-making performance which deserved all of the awards (few awards were given for it). Then came everything else, a decade of MBJ becoming everybody’s favorite bae. And so this is well-deserved: MBJ is People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2020. Some highlights from his People interview:

Being named SMA: “It’s a cool feeling. You know, everybody always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, this is the one thing you’re probably not going to get.’ But it’s a good club to be a part of.”

His work off the screen:
His company, Outlier Society Productions, was the first to adopt an inclusion rider, which mandates that filmmakers enlist a diverse cast and crew. And the actor has been active in the Black Lives Matter movement and this year’s election. “I think there’s a time and a place for everything,” he says. “I’ve been picking my moments to make the most impact. We can all take action—big or small—to help create the change we want to see.”

His family grounds him: “My mom and dad sacrificed so much to provide for my sister, brother and me. I’m just grateful. Honestly it’s like they all have had such an impact on me and who I am and how I approach each day. Without that, a lot of things about me just wouldn’t be the same. So it all comes back to that foundation. I’m really thankful for that.”

His interests, his confidence: The single actor, who when not working relishes driving cars, cooking and playing video games, insists the secret to his confidence now was “fully realizing that you can’t make everybody happy. You could have all the good intentions in the world, and you’ll still get controversy or some type of negativity thrown your way. Sometimes you’ve just got to trust the universe, you know? You’ve got to just believe in yourself and do what you feel is really right. I think that adds up.”

The aunties are happy: As for who will be most excited for his new title, Jordan insists the women in his family “are definitely proud of this one,” he says. “When my grandmother was alive, it was something that she collected, and then my mom naturally reads it a lot and my aunts as well. This is one that they’re definitely going to have a special place for.”

Where he sees himself in 2030: In 10 years, Jordan — who will next star as a former Navy SEAL-turned-CIA operative in Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse — hopes “to be maybe directing a little more, acting less, producing a lot more. Just growing, whatever the next evolution of me is. Hopefully a family by then, I’m going to throw that in the universe. I want to make an impact all over the world and not just through the roles that I play.”

[From People]

The “you can’t make everybody happy” thing is funny because I guarantee that MBJ is probably going to be the most popular choice People Mag has made in years. MBJ is a hit with so many demographics – older women love him, younger girls love him, gay peeps love him, people of all races love him. He’s just beautiful and talented and he seems like a great guy. Hopefully this just cements it for everyone, the fact that he’s a major A-lister.

I thought it would be Momoa for some reason, but I can’t complain about Jordan. He’s gorgeous.

  2. Thanks says:

Good for him. There has been worse people before him cough BlakeShelton cough AdamLevine.

  3. Chris says:

This is a great choice! So many who have won this title before were …meh..to me. No offense Blake Shelton. He’s talented, yes good looking, and seems like a good egg. I don’t hear about him that much so I’m assuming low drama.

  4. Lucy says:

Um, OBVIOUSLY. Very much deserved. Although I don’t know when these pictures were taken, his eyes do look a bit sad. It’s crazy to think Chadwick’s been gone for just a few months now. It feels as it’s been years.

  5. Layday says:

Yeah it’s a great choice. Glad People saw the writing on the wall. I love him because he brings earnestness and vulnerability to all his roles. He put in work, and paid his dues so I’m glad he’s getting the accolades because he is FOINE. I just hope he stays grounded. It’s easy to say, but a lot harder to do a la Will Smith.

I do know he’s said things that have raised eyebrows in the past, but I like that his team has been astute enough to help him navigate that. You can’t please everyone sure, but you also don’t need to go around committing unforced errors either. I say that because I’ve been a big fan for a long time before he “blew up”. Anywho, I agree one of their best choices in years! Though I will say I have friends who tell me they don’t get it for whatever reason. Like you said, you can’t please everyone Mike lol.

  6. Mely says:

Woke up to this news alert. What a way to wake up! So deserved. MBJ is underrated and so talented. I agree that Fruitvale Station was a game changer. It got me invested in advocacy and what would become the BLM movement. If you haven’t watched this movie, make plans this weekend.

  7. Justmemi says:

Great choice! I’m here for it.

  8. Mia4s says:

Strong choice, I was surprised only because normally when it’s a bigger star they have a big project coming out and it’s used for publicity…..then I remembered it’s 2020 so no one has a big project coming out and time has no meaning and the world is on fire and…..AUGHHHHHHH!!!

Sorry, minor breakdown. It’s a good choice. 😁

  9. Kersplasha says:

    Great choice!

And man do I miss Hot Guy Friday posts! They gave me something to look forward too all week LOL

  10. ce says:

The first sexiest man who I’ve actually wanted to have sex with. Tmi? Sorry? Isn’t that the point? SMA has been average middle-age dudes for awhile so I am very here for MBJ!!!

  11. Mireille says:

Meh. I like Jordan but he’s too pretty boy, baby face to me. Although I’d admit the fact that he used to live with his parents for the longest time even when he made it big and that he’s a bit of a nerd makes him endearing, I still like my sexiest man alive to be a little bit older (40s-50s…my age range 🤪).

  12. BillyPilgrim says:

    Yay! I really like him.
Have to add what I always think of when I see him:
    “Where’s Wallace!??!!!!”

  13. Case says:

He’s a beautiful man. I don’t think he’s a super strong actor, unfortunately, but he’s lovely to look at and seems like a really good person.

The Sexiest Man Alive thing is always a bit silly to me because it all depends on who has something to promote and if People is able to coordinate with their PR. It’s not really the “aw shucks, little old me?” schtick every winner tries to pull off in interviews, because they’re a willing participant in the whole thing, lol. It typically doesn’t even reflect who is truly considered by the masses to be sexy (looking at you, Blake Shelton), but at least they picked someone more popular this year!

  14. Aud says:

I’ve had a thing for him since parenthood too. He’s an extremely attractive man, honestly.

  15. JustMe2 says:

I always mix him up with Mariahs ex Nick

    Good choice though…

  16. LoonaticCap says:

    I SUPPORT THIS MESSAGE.

    That’s all (Miranda Priestly’s voice)

  17. Riley says:

While Michael is totally deserving of this choice… I kind of wish they had gone with Chadwick Boseman posthumously? He was beautiful inside and out.

  18. ethy says:

Great choice! Can’t help but feel like it would have been better a year or two ago but better late than never!

  19. jen says:

    A. Bone Martinez is long overdue for this title-he is EVERYTHING.

  20. Faye G says:

I support this choice, Michael is so talented and deserving, they should’ve picked him ages ago but better late than never right?

  21. jferber says:

Hell, yeah. Good to have people of color represented in all media and in all walks of life. And dude is hot as hell.

  22. LolaB says:

What was wrong with Hot Gut Friday??? You just find a different photo of Idris Elba once a week. I mean, it’s not THAT hard.

  23. MsS says:

I feel like my rooster has finally come home to crow. I believe my first suggestion on HGF was MBJ. I’ve been obsessed since Parenthood.

  24. The Recluse says:

He’s a cutie. Glad it’s him this year.

  25. Bread and Circuses says:

I always think he’s cute, but for some reason, in Black Panther, he wasn’t just cute, he was HOT DAMN hot.

Distractingly so. The baddie isn’t supposed to make me forget the plot of the movie. And he was equally smokin’ as either a nerdy, glasses-wearing lad in a museum or a shirtless alpha-swaggerer in a fight-pond.

In other words: Good choice, People.
