The Sussexes are allowing Princess Eugenie & Jack to live in Frogmore Cottage

Britain's Prince Harry (L-R), Princess E..........

Prince Harry has always been pretty close to the York sisters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. Eugenie and Harry are so close that she used to set him up with her friends, and she was one of the first people in the family to meet Meghan when H&M first began dating. So now that Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are expecting, it’s not surprising that Harry is doing his cousin a really nice favor. What *does* surprise me is that the Queen didn’t “give” Eugenie and Jack a royal property as a wedding/baby gift. So it’s left to Harry to make a generous donation: he’s lending them Frogmore Cottage in what seems like an open-ended lease. This is the same Frogmore Cottage which the Queen gifted to the Sussexes and everyone freaked out over how much money it cost to renovate, so H&M “paid back” the cost of the renovations. Harry and Meghan aren’t coming back to England any time soon (LOL) so now Eugenie and Jack live there.

Harry and Meghan have handed the keys to Frogmore Cottage to Princess Eugenie. The Sussexes’ prized possessions were hauled out of Frogmore Cottage in the dead of night to make way for their new tenant. Pregnant Eugenie, 30, and hubby Jack Brooksbank moved into the refurbished five-bed home in Windsor two weeks ago.

The secretive switch saw treasured items and furniture packed off to the Sussexes’ home in California. Grade II-listed Frogmore technically remains the Sussexes’ UK residence but it is unlikely they will live there as a family again.

A source said: “Removal vans pitched up in the dead of the night and cleared out the cottage. They definitely did not want to be seen. Emptying their home and handing over the keys is a pretty strong sign Harry and Meghan have no plans to return. It appears they are tying up loose ends as they plan to extend their stay in the US perhaps permanently.”

The Princess and the Sussexes are said to have reached a private agreement but it is not known how long for. Harry, 36, has always been close to his cousin, youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. Andrew and Fergie live together four miles away at Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park. Eugenie and Jack are also less than a mile from Windsor Castle, where the Queen is spending lockdown with Prince Philip.

Harry and Meghan, 39, cleared the way for the move by repaying £2.4million of taxpayers’ cash spent on a refurb. The source added: “Frogmore was kitted out to Meghan and Harry’s tastes with son Archie in mind, so it is the perfect place for a couple to bring up a baby. It has the bonus of being around the corner from her parents and, of course, the Queen. Harry and Meghan didn’t fancy Frogmore for whatever reason but Jack and Eugenie are delighted with it.”

The couple wed at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in October 2018 and have been living at Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace. Eyebrows were raised after lights were spotted inside the 200-year-old Frogmore around a fortnight ago. Royal gardeners were sent to the cottage last month to get the ground shipshape. It is understood teams cleared leaves and aired the home which had been closed for eight months.

[From The Sun]

I saw the tweets from many royal reporters as the story broke on Friday and it was hilarious to see how BIG MAD they all were. They were still angling to find a way to smear and mock Harry and Meghan for Frogmore (even though the Sussexes paid back all of that sh-t) and now Harry has given Frogmore to Eugenie and Jack? Super-generous. So now comes all of the reporters’ breast-beating and wailing, “HE IS NEVER COMING BACK!!” Yeah, duh. His a–hole family wouldn’t even lay a wreath on Remembrance Sunday in his name. And the royal commentary class has spent the past two years lying and smearing the Sussexes. Your ginger prince isn’t coming back.

I don’t think it’s that H&M didn’t “fancy” Frogmore. They probably hate being there because of all the hateful headlines associated with living there. After being raged at because of costs and being accused of being snobbish to neighbors, who would want to be there? The Queen most likely won’t gift the use of residences to any non-working royals because of all the uproar. I don’t understand how she operates anyhow. Anne, she flat out gave a farm to but Andrew and Edward have just the use of residences.

    • Pop says:

Gatcombe Park is the best royal residence.

      • equality says:

I’m sure all of the Crown Properties are nice but it’s not the same as owning your own place. I wonder if she thought Andrew and Edward wouldn’t be financially responsible enough to own. Andrew, after all, didn’t do well with trying to purchase a ski lodge.

      • notasugarhere says:

Gatcombe Park isn’t a Crown Estate property. Queen bought it with private funds for Anne, then illegally used Crown Estate funds to fix it up.

    • Jenn says:

Andrew was bought a house and he sold it for exhobitant amounts. So only Edward wasn’t given a house to own. Even then he has a 150 year lease of Bagshot Park.

      • MsDiMeanOur says:

I am always so tempted to ask who Edward is.. I never know or remember his name

      • Jules says:

        @MsDiMeanOur, I honestly don’t know… who is Edward?

      • Golly Gee says:

@Jules; if you’re not kidding around, he is Queen Elizabeth and Philip’s son, brother to Charles, Andrew, and Ann.

      • notasugarhere says:

They didn’t buy Andrew a house, it was much worse than that. Go look up Sunninghill Park. It was such a disaster, they couldn’t get away with buying Edward a house after that.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

I looked it up. Sunninghill park was a gorgeous home built for the York’s. They lived in it until the divorce where just Sarah and the girls lived in it. Then it was sold 3 million £ above asking price to a foreign businessman (shady) and was left to rot.

      • Yes, Andy and Fergie’s lovely ‘Southfork’ of Britain. He had it on market and no one would buy it as it was in such a horrible state. Finally, one of his shady friends from the Middle East stepped in and bought it for around $3 million — way more than it was worth and even more than Andy had put it on market for. The new owner immediately tore it down. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ Meanwhile, Queen GIFT’s the right to a long term lease to Harry and Meghan a rundown space that had been turned into staff offices and apartments that had been vacant and was scheduled for repairs. Should we call them the “maid’s” quarters. It was a dump. It is repaired, but H and M paid for all finishing, etc with their own money (i.e., appliances, fixtures, hardware, floors, carpets, paint, etc.). They are then driven out of country and paid for the Crown expenses (Queen’s) repairs that converted it into a single family home. What a gift…..the Queen couldn’t have given them a nastier home if she’d tried. Of course no one (ROYAL RAT ROTA) talks about what it cost them to finish the inside which they’d already paid for with their own money.
I think it’s nice Harry and Meghan made the offer to Eugenie and Jack. And I especially loved how fast Buckingham Palace couriers rushed out a statement that they had nothing to say about this private residence and this issue. I’m sure they would have leaked plenty if had been just about H and M. Oh, and I also loved how the RRR said they just couldn’t understand why H and M would leave a perfectly lovely home to go live in America. Such disloyalty! I call 🐂💩 on the rats.

    • Mignionette says:

I think the Philip gave Anne Gatcombe Park and insisted on the Princess Royal title as a way to compensation for not getting a Dukedom like her brothers.

      • notasugarhere says:

Philip has no money. I think Anne bitched to her mother about how Diana and Fergie got all the attention, so the Queen gave her the Princess Royal title in 1987.

      • Mignionette says:

@Nota – yep what I meant was that Philip pressured Betty to give Anne the Princess Royal title just like his fake Prince title and the Estate to go along with it.

The Estate would not have been entirely unfair at the time given the gifts of property the Queen made to her cousins i.e. flat at KP and Country home to the Gloucester’s.

      • Nicole says:

Anne didn’t get the Princess Royal title until 1987 because that’s when Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood died. Much like the Highlander, there can only be one Princess Royal at a time.

      • Courtney B says:

        Princess Mary died in 1965.

      • notasugarhere says:

She made no ‘gifts’ of property. She isn’t giving anything away, nor does she own Kensington Palace or any of the Crown Estate properties. Working royals live at KP or SJP rent free but don’t own the property. Just as the people buying leases for Crown Estate properties and paying for fixup do not own the properties.

The Gloucesters own/owned their own private home, QEII didn’t give it to them. They also own a pile of tiaras. The Gloucester line has private money, the Kent line does not.

      • Alesha says:

Every single first born daughter to the Monarch is given the princess royal title.

      • Rae S-L says:

@Mignionette, Princess Royal title is given to the eldest daughter of a monarch, as long the that of the previous one is still not alive. This Anne was given the title in 1987, as Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood, daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, died that year. Howerver the title is customary and not automatically given. It has nothing to do with her first husband not taking a title on their marriage.

      • Sofia says:

@Rae Princess Mary died in 1965

      • PrincessK says:

Philip may not be rich but he does have money and assets and we will find out when his will is revealed.

    • Chrissy says:

The Queen bought Sunninghill House (a new build) for Andrew and Fergie as a wedding present. It was later sold, I think after the divorce, and then demolished. Andrew received the Royal Lodge later.

      • notasugarhere says:

She didn’t buy an existing house. She arranged (dubiously) for the sale of a few acres of Windsor Great Park to be sold to Andrew. Or rather sold to her privately and she gave it to Andrew as a wedding gift. She paid for that ugly house to be built on that property.

Andrew didn’t ‘receive’ Royal Lodge. After the Queen Mum passed away, Andrew was given the opportunity to purchase the lease. He paid millions up front to restore the place, and in exchange gets to live there rent free for decades. Similar deal for Edward with Bagshot and now Harry/Meghan with Frogmore Cottage.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Nota
The place wasn’t terribly ugly. I think that was from the design influence of the York’s.

  2. Missy says:

“Harry and Meghan didn’t fancy Frogmore for whatever reason but Jack and Eugenie are delighted with it.” What are they talking about? THAT’s how they remember the reason for Harry and Meghan leaving?

    • Sarah says:

That’s the phrase that really stood out to me. Yeah they just didn’t fancy it so they wandered over to California. They just left Frogmore on a whim, that’s why they’re not in the UK anymore.

What is it with these stories???

      • Gina says:

Brainwashing. Manipulation. If repeat enough times that Harry and Meghan left because they didn’t fancy living in Britain, it will be plausible to a lot of people as we can see on Tweeter, for example.

      • BayTampaBay says:

        Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

        Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

    • Bettyrose says:

I think that was meant to paint H & M as unreasonable.

      • Betsy says:

It’s so tired, but that’s exactly what they were going for.

      • lucy2 says:

Yup – like they’re too good for it, and it wasn’t special and extravagant enough for them. Please! They left because the BRF is awful.

It’s insane to me that they had to pay for a place they barely lived in, that should have been renovated with the BRF money, and that now other members are living in, probably for free.

      • notasugarhere says:

luxy2, the Windsor family does not personally own Crown Estate properties. The Sovereign Grant isn’t used to upkeep those properties.

Crown Estate properties are a separate entity with their own board of managers. That board of managers kept Frogmore Cottage as staff quarters, until the Queen asked them to make it available for Harry and Meghan. She couldn’t hand them the house because she doesn’t own it. Princess Alexandra, Andrew, Edward, and now Harry all have similar deals regarding Crown Estate properties. Pay to fix it up, maybe share the costs with the Crown Estate, and get years of a lease in return.

    • Mignionette says:

^^^This comment here really got the gammons at the heil going. The implication being that Meghan is too much of a snob and felt she had been slighted by being offered the poor house and lets face it Meghan and Harry were treated very poorly when compared to Bill and Katie. Whilst Frogmore cottage is beautiful it used to literally be ‘servants quarters” and was so dilapidated it needed extended refurbishment.

It;s really unfair that H&M ended up refurbishing Crown Estates property. That cost should have been split with the Crown Estates. They have treated Harry so horribly that I don’t see him ever coming back under any circumstances.

As for the RR’s they literally drove off the goose laying the golden egg and they still don’t seem to comprehend what was so wrong with their actions. The anger they display towards H&M is just astounding.

      • notasugarhere says:

Andrew paid millions to refurbish Crown Estate property and received decades of a lease in return. Edward paid 1.5 million to refurbish Crown Esate property, the Crown Estate paid the other half. Edward pays annual rent on the property too.

Harry and Meghan got a similar kind of deal. Since Harry isn’t the heir-to-the-heir, it was a reasonable deal. Wiliam was always going to get to live in larger properties and not have to pay, because he is the older brother. That is the way it works; Harry isn’t being slighted here.

    • L4frimaire says:

Yeah the phrasing is deliberately misleading, as is “packing up in the dead of night”. I’m sure they loved Frogmore and it was their only refuge. However, they were pilloried for living in it after renovations. Why do those reporters care if they ever come back. They hate them and it’s none of their f’ng business. They will never accept any “ gifts” from the royal family again because it has barbed wire attached. I hope the Brooksbanks are paying Harry and Meghan rent and taking care of the utilities. Bet they can’t wait to trudge all their friends through it.

    • PrincessK says:

The speculation is rubbish. Removal vans, during the middle of the night….pure sensation.

It makes perfect sense not to leave the house empty as it will deteriorate faster, and I am sure that a couple of rooms will be left to the private use of the Sussexes when they come to the UK next year. I am sure that the Queen approves of this arrangement.

Eugenie and Harry have always been very close, and say what you will about the Yorks but they will never forget that Harry insisted on inviting Fergie to his wedding. Eugenie and her sister have also suffered at the vicious hands of the press, and if we believe the rumours they don’t get on with the Cambridges, so this arrangement suggests a further twist.

  3. Becks1 says:

I find this whole thing weird and the reactions were hilarious. I’ve never seen people change their stories so fast – now Frogmore is of COURSE crown property and of COURSE the queen would give it to Eugenie and of COURSE Eugenie is going to be a working royal now etc.

That overlooks the Sussexes lease – so it’s not the Queen’s to give away at this point – and that they paid back the Renos. I hope Eugenie and Jack are paying them something and they aren’t total freeloaders.

    • ShazBot says:

I wonder if Charles/William objected to the Queen giving Eugenie a bigger place to live, because she definitely would, and Harry did this work around behind their backs.

      • Becks1 says:

This is my guess – E wanted a bigger place and Harry really isn’t as petty as the rest of his family and said here, use Frogmore, because Charles said no to any other crown property.

(I say he’s not petty bc I am and I would never let another Windsor set foot in that place lol)

      • Sofia says:

I can see that happening. Especially with Charles’ alleged plan to slim down the monarchy. Giving non-working royals new (or well newly renovated) Crown Estates property probably doesn’t fit that vision.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I can see Charles saying no just because it would piss of Pedo. That is something that’d give him the UTMOST satisfaction (esp. as seeing Mummy Dearest still sheltering him and trying to get him back into public). I don’t think Charles is particularly close to any of his nieces or nephews anyway.

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ Becks1 : Eugenie and Jack were living at ivy Cottage at Kensington Place before moving to Frogmore Cottage. So they are just moving from one crown property to another. Charles didn’t say no because E&J were already living in a “grace and favour” residence.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kensington Palace is managed by Historic Royal Palaces. Crown Estate properties like Frogmore Cottage are a completely separate entity.

Eugenie and Jack are not in a grace-and-favour residence at KP, because they are required to pay rent. Only working royals get to live at KP for free.

    • Nic919 says:

Harry knows he won’t be going back to the UK anytime soon so he helped out his cousin. Not sure why they can’t find accommodation on their own off the Royal base, but on Harry’s end it is nothing but a nice thing to do.

Also, I hope the bs about them being mad that Meghan and Harry “announced” the pregnancy at their wedding dies now. Clearly Eugenie and Harry are still in touch.

      • Aud says:

I think Andrew has always wanted and felt like he deserved the crown. He knows he’ll never get it now but raised his children to live like heirs.

  4. S808 says:

I know the RRs were sick cause they had stories about the staff getting frogmore ready for the Sussexes only for their things to be shipped to California for E&J to move in 🤣

The Sussexes are very nice cause I would never, but they are philanthropists and well, charity starts at home. Though I do have questions as to why the queen didn’t upgrade their living space (not that they need it tbh, a 3 bedroom home is a basic starter home for a young family) or why they won’t stay at Andrew’s huge estate. I suspect they wanted the upgrades (don’t blame them) so I hope they’re paying the Sussexes especially since BP made it clear that is their private home and they have financial responsibility for it.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Isn’t Tequila Boy supposed to come from big money? I wonder why he didn’t just buy them a place (or HIS family cough up something).

      • S808 says:

I personally think he’s broke or at least can’t afford the lifetime she’s used to on his own.

      • Mignionette says:

Tequila boy is BARELY middle class. Dad is an Accountant and Mum is a Company Director. Both are almost meaningless descriptions in the UK. Apparently he is descended from some Baronet but that isn’t even a hereditary peerage so it’s possible it was awarded for some sort of act of bravery / service at some point.

Basically the Brooksbanks are just above the Midds in lineage but without the money.

      • Sofia says:

@Mig his brother went to Eton and that school isn’t cheap so there might be some money somewhere. Unless he got a scholarship

  5. Jay says:

I love how they mention this all happening in the dead of night, like Harry and Meghan are sneaking out of town instead of kindly allowing his cousin to stay in their house!

The reporters are just mad they didn’t get photos of the furniture coming out so they could nitpick Meghan’s taste and speculate about whether she might be making off with the regency silverware.

    • Lady D says:

I really doubt it was the middle of the night too. H&M have no reason to sneak around.

      • Golly Gee says:

I don’t doubt it. I imagine the Sussexes wouldn’t want the tabloids making money off of photos of moving vans leaving Frogmore.

      • L4frimaire says:

Exactly. They didn’t just pack up on a whim like people sneaking out to avoid debt collectors, lol. An international move takes a lot of planning and paperwork, especially during a pandemic. They may have arranged their things getting shipped before they even left England in March. Whatever deal they made with the cousins is their business since both couples are technically private citizens. I’m sure the press will snoop around but what more is there to say.

    • PrincessK says:

      That was all rubbish.

  6. ABritGuest says:

Anyone else find it creepy that this report suggests FC was being watched at night? By who? Or is this a royal staffer that was out of the loop curtain twitching & leaking to the Scum?

I imagine that Betty does have property lined up for Eugenie & Beatrice but they probably need renovation or something so waiting for that to be done on the taxpayer first.

It’s better somebody is occupying a place that has rent paid for & would be empty otherwise. I just hope Sussexes haven’t been pressured to do this & would be nice if Eugenie & Jack are reimbursing some of the pre paid rent. I wonder now who was behind those messages for FC to be given to either Eugenie or Beatrice that royal experts were pushing a few weeks ago.

Some RRs were suggesting that Sussexes will still use FC for their U.K. visits & share with Eugenie & Jack. I wouldn’t trust anywhere where Fergie & Andrew could be frequent visitors especially now Fergie is working for the Scum.

The meltdowns then RRs were having at this news & prospect Sussexes may not be back to the UK was hilarious. Thought they were irrelevant?

    • equality says:

Some of the tabloids probably have Windsor employees on retainer to spy out the place.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Fergie is “working for the scum”??? Which one??

      • Talia says:

‘The Scum’ is a nickname for the Sun newspaper. It was nicknamed that in Liverpool after it printed a string of lies about the behaviour of football fans at the Hillsborough Disaster where 96 people died, basically blaming them for their deaths and making vile accusations about the conduct of fans after the incident occurred. It happened in 1989 and I worked with people in Liverpool who still had ‘boycott the Sun’ signs up at their desks in 2012/2013.

For the avoidance of all doubt, after a second inquest, it was found the police, ambulance service and stadium officials were responsible. About the only people who *didn’t* contribute were the fans who were blamed by the Sun at the time. Also, the claims about their behaviour were found to be lies as well.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

        Thank you, Talia!

      • BeanieBean says:

Talia: I only learned about that incident recently when watching Series 2 of Cracker from the 90s. Robert Carlyle played a fellow who had been at that game & we see, over the course of the series, what that event actually did to him emotionally/mentally. Somehow you end up feeling some sympathy (empathy?) for a guy who is, well, the bad guy.

    • Zazu says:

Maybe the royals figured the middle of a brexit/covid recession was not the time to spend millions of taxpayer money renovating a home for Eugenie and Jack. So they were looking around for another possibility, and when Harry heard about it, he generously offered Frogmore. It also helps with the narrative that he is still connected to (parts) of his family – not that that was his motivation- but it doesn’t hurt. But that also, they he has moved on.

      • Mignionette says:

^^^ This is exaclty what I said Zazu. Betty has had to go cap in hand to the Treasury during COVID bc the estates are not generating the income they usually would do, especially with Tourist seasons being so affected.

So there was no way they were going to find 2-3 Million for the Refurbishment of another property. Add Paedo Andy to the mix and even the Gammons at the Heil would have been baying for the Royals blood.

If only they’d thrown the same care and foresight around H&M and insulated them in the same way. Instead they didn’t just thrown them under a bus with Frogmore, they helped the bus reverse and go back over them a few times.

      • BeanieBean says:

The royals aren’t that smart, empathetic, caring, or PR savvy. It all comes from Harry.

    • Tasz says:

I agree with ABritGuest. It is creepy to think the slimy tabloids are stalking Frogmore Cottage. The gossip a while back about the house being opened seems to show the tabloids are watching or have their spies inside the palace. They thought Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan were coming back for the court case.

I think this is not only a kind gesture but a smart move. With the home occupied by Eugenie and Jack, it might prove more difficult for the tabloids to discern what’s happening at Frogmore.

  7. Wiglet Watcher says:

    Harry is pure class.

  8. FancyPants says:

The tabloids are gonna make it a thing because they have to (and the “midnight movers” is kinda weird), but I think this makes total sense. The Sussexes aren’t using it and Eugenie is probably thrilled to live so close to her parents & grandparents, especially with a baby on the way. The house is fully updated and having somebody living in it will keep it from deteriorating again. Win-win-win, in my opinion.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I can see why they did it at night: no one would come around and gawk as they would in broad daylight.

I could never live my life under a microscope like they have to, where EVERY THING associated with me is written/photo’d/picked apart…. I can see how it could literally drive someone to paranoia/reclusiveness.

    • Mignionette says:

The midnight movers is practical not only for privacy but also for logistics reasons, especially if the Cargo is being shipped to the US and they needed everything to happen in a short time frame to stop snooping around.

  9. Smices says:

They’d have to worry about it being bugged when they went back. Easier to stay somewhere else.

  10. Noki says:

It makes my blood boil how much money was used to renovate that place and it still looks several grades down from what its supposedly worth. For 2.4 million pounds they could have just bought a starter home in the country side.

    • Yvette says:

@Noki … Frogmore Cottage is 200 years old. A big part of that renovation cost was spent on structural/foundation work, electrical wiring, new flooring throughout, probably plumbing, the heating system, and i think they added air conditioning as well (I remember reading about the renovation as it was going on because it seemed to take forever). Evidently, there has only been one upgrade to the place over the years and it didn’t seem important to anyone because Frogmore Cottage was only used for the rare special occasion and to house staff members.

    • PrincessK says:

It is a historic property and needed to be upgraded, and so the Sussexes have provided a service.

  11. Snuffles says:

I hope Harry and Meghan are charging rent!

I don’t think they are going to stay on royal property ever again. Too much BS and it would probably be under surveillance so the Cambridge’s can leak more stuff.

They’ll either stay in a hotel when they visit, with friends or get their own apartment in London.

    • Ginger says:

That’s what I was thinking as well. A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said they would stay with E&J when they come back to the UK but I highly doubt it. I think they will stay in a hotel. It just proves that when they come back it will be for a very short period of time. The RR’s are SO mad about that.

      • Rita says:

They will definitely not stay in a hotel the press has no access to frogmore but any hotel they’d just wait outside for them

      • notasugarhere says:

Rita, they stayed in a hotel during their farewell stay and no one found out until after.

  12. Gruey says:

The reason the queen can’t give them a house is that Frogmore is the absolute shittiest royal property by a wide margin and if she were to give them anything it would look absolutely outrageous. I don’t think the public would look at gifting them a 30 bedroom mansion in quite the same light. Queen might just be perceptive enough to realize this.

    • Sofia says:

I’m sorry but how is it shitty? It’s not 10 bedroom Anmer I’ll give you that but let’s also not act like it’s a shack even by royal standards. And it certainly wasn’t a shabby for the Sussexes who chose to live there, as stated on their Sussex Royal website as they could have waited a bit and gotten a KP apartment.

Frogmore being in such a crappy state is on the Queen for not maintaining it.

      • Kalana says:

No one had Frogmore on the list of potential properties for a reason. It’s former servant quarters, not a residence the royals wanted to use for themselves. I think the Sussexes were being pressured to live at KP or choose a clearly inferior place and they chose Frogmore to be able to keep their distance.

      • Sofia says:

@Kalana I mean is it possible the Sussexes didn’t see it as former servant quarters and instead saw it as a house that had a potential to be a family home? And considering Harry’s comments about green space, it’s possible they genuinely wanted outdoor space that a KP apartment would never be able provide

      • GREX says:

It’s a small run down cottage by comparison. There has been a lot of complaining about that cottage and a lot of forgetting what the other properties occupied by second-fourths occupy. Best not remind anyone.

      • FancyPants says:

I think there were privacy concerns, because people touring the Windsor grounds can walk by relatively close to it.

      • notasugarhere says:

Harry and Meghan chose Frogmore Cottage over the Gloucester’s London space. If Philip wasn’t still around, they might have been offered Wood Farm at Sandringham instead. The could have had York Cottage at Sandringham, but maybe Harry and Meghan didn’t want to be near W&K either in London or Norfolk.

They had to find somewhere for Harry and Meghan to live, and the other big Crown Estate properties are already taken. Frogmore Cottage was a good choice, because Frogmore House would have caused conniptions. Adelaide Cottage at Windsor is smaller and less private. Were they going to throw Charles’s friend out of Fort Belevedere? There were already too many Wallis/Meghan comparisons going on.

  13. Harper says:

I love how they moved out in the dead of night. Is this actually a service that moving companies offer so you can stick it to your nosy neighbors? Harry & Meghan continue to be one step ahead of the rota and Willileaks. Nice move, M&H!

    • Lizzie says:

Did they really move at night or did the rr make this up because they missed the movers and it sounds shady to move ‘in the dead of night’ ?

      • Liz version 700 says:

I once dealt with a court case involving a repossessed car. The name of the repo company was “Magic at Midnight.” 20 years later that still cracks me up.

      • Lady D says:

That’s what I think too. They missed the move and they’re pissed about it. I think RR’s want the Sussex’s to believe they know every move they make. Thwarted again:)

      • Aud says:

I think they moved at night for sure. But I also doubt H&M arranged it.

The RF knows they look bad right now. Last thing they need is pap photos of H&Ms belongings being moved out.

      • I think if they did move out possessions it was at night. After all, they did the same thing on Vancouver Island and at Tyler Perry’s home. Keeps it as private as possible from the lookie loos and allow H/M to keep their business private….. I’m sure putting a bug up the Royal Rat Rota ass had nothing to do with it. 😂

    • Jaded says:

I’ve coordinated office moves at night because of daytime noise restrictions, hogging elevators, etc. Movers accommodate nighttime moves all the time.

  14. Oh says:

I’m so sick of “ Harry is close to Eugenie” BS. What did Eugenie do to support Meghan when Meghan was being abused because of the pregnancy announcement and nonsense that she stole the thunder from her wedding that literally nobody care about it ?? She was silent and didn’t care. Anyway, it’s not the first time that Harry and Meghan have helped homeless people

    • S808 says:

Worst part is that they’re not even homeless, they just don’t want to be in their normal sized home.

      • Snuffles says:

I don’t know what Eugenie and Jack’s living situation is, but my theory is that Harry and Meghan wanted to unload Frogmore after all the crap they’ve been put through over it. And, again, if I were them, I would worry about it being under constant surveillance.

If they wanted to slip back into the UK to do some private business and not have the RRs up their ass, they wouldn’t be able to do that if they stayed in Frogmore. It clear that the property is being watched and getting informed on. Like when the news said the property was being prepped for their return last month. Someone clearly leaked that tidbit. But it turned out it was getting prepped for Eugenie and Jack to move in.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they never set foot in Frogmore ever again. Hence them getting their stuff packed up and shipped.

    • Becks1 says:

Also it’s likely Eugenie who leaked their relationship to the press.

I just wonder how this went down – did Harry offer it? Did Eugenie ask?

      • Sofia says:

Maybe they wanted a bigger place but Lizzie and Charles didn’t want to give 2 non-working royals a newly renovated home. So either they or Eugenie asked the Sussexes if they were willing to give Frogmore to Eugenie (either temporarily or forever I’m not sure) because it was recently renovated and it was unlikely to be used for months.

      • notasugarhere says:

Eugenie or Sarah/Andrew? Likely a lot of family found out in September 2016, when Harry was at Balmoral for his birthday.

      • FC says:

My guess is they were catching up and she hinted that she was in a housing pickle or simply was looking for a bigger place. I could see H&M independently coming up with the idea and surprising Eugenie with the offer that was too perfect for her to pass up.

    • CC. says:

I’m very mixed about Eugenie. A lot of it has to do with her father. I hope she cut him off and Harry & Meg just want to show some support.

As for tje wedding thing, I did side eye her for that buuutt I feel like Harry/Meghan has such a strict ‘shut up about us’ rule (which is why Serena always fool around that she’s asked). I believe Eugenie posted a congratulations for Archie so it’s probably just a little argument that Meghan probably apologised for or something.

      • Eugenie has terrible parents, Meghan has a horrific father and half siblings, Harry has got a radioactive brother and father. I imagine the 3 of them have more understanding of what each of them is going through then we give them credit for.

    • PrincessK says:

Sometimes the people closest to you serve you best by keeping their mouths firmly shut. I don’t believe for one minute Eugenie believed those stories. You can never imagine how much the press fabricate….I have seen the royal reporters in action and I have witnessed them making things up.

  15. MerryGirl says:

Not sure how to interpret this news. Is it that Eugenie & Jack are subletting the property and paying back Harry & Meghan for use of it? Or are they just freeloaders in which case will we see headlines upon headlines about E&J being grifters living off of others just like when H&M were accused of same at Tyler Perry’s house? Things that make you go hmmmm!

    • Levans says:

Definitely makes you go Hmmm… ! Is someone going to pay back the millions Harry and Meg had to give the crown for renovations!?!

  16. TheOriginalMia says:

I doubt the Sussexes gave the Broadbanks anything. Eugenie asked and they agreed to rent the place to them. I’m sure she realized like they did that KP living and Nott Cottage wasn’t compatible to her growing family.

    • Becks1 says:

They were at Ivy Cottage, which is a bit bigger – it’s 3 bedrooms – so not huge, but bigger than Nott

      • TheOriginalMia says:

Thanks, Becks1! You’re right. Then it has to be not wanting to be at KP for obvious reasons and wanting to be closer to Andy and Fergie. Works for all of them. Harry & Meghan get the rent paid and don’t have to worry about Frogmore anymore and Eugenie and Jack get a place for their family closer to her parents and grandparents. Win-win. The RRs can suck it. As can the haters trying to find fault with HM for taking rent on a gift they had to pay to be renovated up to code.

      • PrincessK says:

Maybe Eugenie wants to keep away from the Cambridges and be closer to her parents and bringing a child up in the country is preferable.

    • Mignionette says:

TBF didn’t E&J live in Harry’s old place at KP? Everyone talks about M&H not wanting to live next door to the Cambs, but Harry himself never lived next door to the Cambs. Who wants to live next door to their sibling ? It’s a recipe for misery.

The Queen did not live next door to Margaret. Andy did not live next door to Chuck (or any other sibling). In fact they all purchased their own estates or were given vast estates. So why is there an expectation for Harry to live next door to Bill.

Had Charles been King when Harry married, H&M would have received a vast Estate. The rules always appear to change for H&M and the dumb British racist public eat it up.

      • notasugarhere says:

No. Harry and Meghan lived in Nottingham Cottage, rent free as working royals. Eugenie and Jack paid to rent Ivy Cottage which is also at Kensington Palace.

      • Oh says:

Because Harry wanted to live next door to his brother, according to Finding Freedom, Harry always wanted his family to be close to Cambridge.

      • notasugarhere says:

Why are you taking FF are gospel, when it is proven to be full of fictions and flat-out inaccuracies?

Harry didn’t live next door to W&K at Kensington Palace, as NottCott is not next to Apartment 1A. It is on the opposite side of the property, pretty much as far from W&K as they could be. Harry and Meghan turned down the offer to live in the Gloucesters old space there which is right next door to W&K. He and Meghan chose Frogmore Cottage.

  17. Sofia says:

I just hope they’re paying some sort of rent in exchange for being private citizens living on Crown Estates.

As for why, my guess is that the Sussexes probably don’t expect to use Frogmore for months and it was renovated so why not let Jack and Eugenie move in for a bit – even temporarily. Gives them time to find a property that they can move into and also let’s Frogmore stay in use.

But this is one those things that a proper statement from BP would be warranted. Not a 2 line email or something to the rota.

  18. tee says:

This is very generous. All I will say.

  19. Kalana says:

Don’t these two supposedly come from money and have jobs? Are the Yorks broke and looking for handouts in the second generation as well?

If being royal is such a moneymaker, why do Eugenie and Jack need Harry and Meghan’s help?

Eugenie and Jack have benefited so much from Harry and Meghan while not speaking up for them. We better not see pictures of the interiors sold to the tabloids.

Now we wait to see what Beatrice will try to finagle for herself. I believe the theory that her marriage is about getting herself financially set up before the Queen passes away.

    • RoyalBlue says:

Look out for Bea getting the Glouchesters’ flat.

      • Mignionette says:

Edo has money. He’s a property developer and has no ambition I suspect to become a working royal as that would cutail his business activities.

I think Edo married Bea to build a brand so he can become the next big thing like the Candy Brothers.

      • PrincessK says:

I don’t think Edo has money, all smoke and mirrors, his mother may have a bit.

      • RoyalBlue says:

Edo and Bea are not in the same category as Madeline (swedish royal) and Chris O’Neill. Chris had a bona fide job and is able to provide for his family and keep them to the standard that is suitable to their posistion. Edo and Jack can’t do that for their respective spouses.

  20. Amy Bee says:

You can bet that Eugenie and Jack will not be called couch surfers by the British press. It’s a nice gesture by Harry and Meghan and it’s another sign that they won’t be going back to the UK. I’ve been enjoying the press reaction to this news maybe now they will realise that Harry and Meghan are not rejoining the firm.

  21. Edna says:

“It appears they are tying up loose ends as they plan to extend their stay in the US perhaps permanently.”

😂😂 Plan to extend their stay? How crazy does the BM have to be to write this? Did these clowns really harbor illusions that H&M were just visiting the U.S. and we’re coming back permanently to the U.K? So delusional.

    • Snuffles says:

They clearly did. I think Richard Palmer commented that they were given assurances that Harry and Meghan would return to the UK. I’m sure there were people within the palaces and in the media that were absolutely convinced that the Sussex’s wouldn’t be able to hack it outside of The Firm and would come crawling back. They clearly did everything they could to handicap them. Banning them from using Royal, taking away their Instagram account, taking away Harry’s honorary military titles, etc. They probably pulled even more shit behind the scenes that we don’t know about.

NONE of them anticipated Montecito or Netflix or them paying back
      Frogmore.

      • February-Pisces says:

I think the firm tasked the royals reporters and the trash British media to ensure that they trashed them in anyway they could as a move to get harry to buckle and come running back to the firm on his own. They all thought that the more pressure they put on them the greater chance of them breaking. They had no idea that the prince who they love to call stupid would out manoeuvre them at every turn.

They thing is the RRs have failed in their mission to get harry back. What will happen when the firms doesn’t give them them the rewards for doing all that dirty work for them?

      • Elle Eagle says:

“NONE of them anticipated Montecito or Netflix or them paying back
        Frogmore.“
FACTS. Diana’s true legacy = her son falling in love with woman who loved him, choosing his marriage to this woman over his family, and said woman being of the sort that knows how to get sh!t done.

    • Lizzie says:

IDK, I’m starting to believe Harry is not going to leave his wife and son and move back to the UK so that the queen can continue to belittle him.

    • Winter Day says:

Perhaps they are extending their stay in the US is delusional thinking at best. There is no extended stay. The move is permanent. Do they really think Meghan and Harry are going to purchase a $10M home in that part of California with intentions on living at Frogmore down the road? That part of the US is gorgeous. You couldn’t get me to leave the driveway.

    • PrincessK says:

The press desperately want Harry and Meghan back, the other royals are so lifeless in comparison. I think that they are secretly regretting how horrid they have been.

The Mail has resorted to regurgitating old stories about the Cambridge courtship, but surprise surprise no one is interested and it is not generating the clicks desired.

The royal photographers must be bored to death and their incomes have plummeted. Even the Telegraph isn’t promoting Kate on the front page as much as usual.

  22. lanne says:

They should consider the 3 million dollars a get free from the royal bs tax. Now, they can buy a home of their own choosing in the UK, tell no one where it is, and have no spies or listening devices, which you frogmore is full of. Frogmore goes down as the worlds worst wedding present. Dilapidated servants quarters you have to pay 3 million dollars to make livable, all the while the public complains, and then you end up giving away likely for nothing. That’s a good lesson: never accept a gift from the RF. Well, the Sussexes biggest “gift” is their escape from that hellhole!

  23. Beana says:

This strikes me as a super canny move. Since FC is on the greater Windsor estate, they couldn’t just sublet to anyone. Yet they know they won’t be back for at least a few years and they know the press will continue their digs about the “wasteful, unused cottage that is never lived in” (never mind that Harry and Meghan paid it off, the press will still make it look like an abuse of privilege). Allowing a family member to use it was literally their only possible sublet option. I’m sure that it’s great for Eugenie, since it’s baby-proofed and near her family during a pandemic. Once again, Harry and Meghan show their savvy here, and I think it’s great!

    • Snuffles says:

      All excellent points!

    • Ginger says:

Harry and Meghan are many steps ahead. They paid back the full cost of renovations and let a family live there so it doesn’t go to waste. The press don’t know what to do about it. This threw them. Karma is coming for the RF. The Crown season 4, not laying a wreath for Harry and now E&J living in Frogmore . The narrative is changing and the press hate it.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I’m watching season four right now, and the parallels between the popularity of Diana and Meghan and how they were/are being treated by palace petty is astounding. Honestly breath-taking jealousy, when they should have appreciated and embraced the good will those women engendered on behalf of the petty RF.

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, I love how they are always steps ahead. Leaving the RF and the ugly press guessing about what is coming next.

    • Mignionette says:

It also solves the problem of housing a broke non-working Royal who has no real access to Crown Property at this time.

At any moment Andy’s number can be called and his assets frozen. E&J are maybe also attempting to separate themselves financially from Andy.

    • Totally agree Beana. Excellent scenario. A win/win for all 4 of them. On a side note, I thought it was interesting that George Clooney mentioned in the GQ article this month that he had sold his interest in the tequila company for a boatload of bucks. This is the same company that Jack still works for.

  24. February-Pisces says:

I think what harry is doing is nice to help out Eugenie, and I’ve got no beef with her, I’m more furious at the trolls reaction to this. They did nothing but demand that they pay for crown owned property. No other royals have ever paid out of their own pocket for crown owned property. Harry and Meghan did pay £2.4 million of their personal money. Now they are delighted it’s been ‘taken off them and handed over to Eugenie, for free”. Please tell me how these people are not racist?

    • Snuffles says:

I’d like to think Harry gets along perfectly fine with relatives that don’t work for The Crown. It’s the ones that DO that have ulterior motives and constantly back stab each other.

    • Nic919 says:

I don’t have a problem with Harry helping out anyone, even if he’s charging rent, he’s absorbed the cost of renovating that place for them. It wasn’t suitable prior to that.

What I do wish is that Eugenie shuts down all the bs about being mad over the pregnancy “announcement” now that Harry has done her this huge favour. She and Jack really should act like adults and get their own place. They seem like freeloaders doing this.

    • Dalloway says:

There were so many gross comments on twitter telling Eugenie to change the locks and redecorate the house or do a sage burning. F*cking racists. Harry has the least and is being so generous to his cousin.

    • February-Pisces says:

Trolls were insisting that it’s the queens property and up to her to do as she pleases. These people clearly have no idea regarding property law. The crown are technically the freeholders, but harry and Meghan the leaseholders, which means that for whatever term their lease is for, they technically ‘own’ the property, but not the grounds. Freeholders can not take the property back and move in other tenants for free, especially as it have been paid for already by the leaseholder. We know harry and Meghan have paid up front for the next however many years. If any freeholder did this, they would find themselves in court pretty quickly.

I just hate how the trolls are out for blood. The fact they have no problem with other royals getting free housing except for harry and Meghan shows their prejudice right their. Only the interracial couple must pay. What they consider equality is if Willie and Kate are gifted 10 stately homes at the tax payer expense, as a reward for being so basic, boring and uncharismatic, whilst Meghan and harry live in a caravan, a punishment for their star power and charisma and interracial relationship.

    • Plus they paid for all the interior appliances, fixtures, hardware, and finishes from their private funds during the “crown account” funded renovation of £2.4 million (which the Sussexes have since paid back). Betcha that the Queen has used that £2.4 million to cover Andrew’s ass lately now that he’s off the civil list and can’t use his position of working royal to grift everyone. Not one of the R🐀R ever brings up H/M’s private contribution to make Frogmore a home. Let’s not forget that the R🐀R— especially Piss Morgan had a fit and banged on and on about the soundproofing, the spring floor, the huge copper tub, the yoga studio….none of which turned out to be true as pointed out item by item in Meghan’s initial court papers. Hell, they even bitched about the baby-friendly wall paint!

  25. Mirage says:

Frogmore cottage was never a great residence because of the air traffic.
I do hope that Eugénie is paying them rent. The upkeep of large properties in Santa Barbara is not cheap!

    • Lizzie says:

You might be conflating the 2 properties. My understanding is Harry is paying rent for Frogmore so if Eugenia is paying anything then it will help offset the rent.

  26. Bettyrose says:

    Wrong spot

  27. Likeyoucare says:

Are they really poor and need to be free loader.
Get your own house and get a job.

    • Argus says:

Princess Eugenie & Jack Brooksbank both have actual jobs. She’s an art gallery Director and he’s in the bar industry. And I bet they are paying rent for the use of Frogmore. Not exactly jobless and homeless free loaders.

    • Jaded says:

I don’t think there’s any freeloading going on, they both earn decent salaries and my guess is they’re paying rent to Harry and Meghan. They won’t be going back to the UK in the foreseeable future and if they do, i.e. when Granny or Grandpa fall off their perches, they’ll stay at a hotel.

      • Nic919 says:

There really needs to be an audit as to how the properties are being used. With fewer “working royals” there is no reason to justify letting second tier royals cling on to properties that are valued in the millions. The media went crazy over Harry and Meghan, but they need to scrutinize the York girls and all the other cousins. Even William and Kate are getting quite a deal considering they don’t work full time hours.

      • notasugarhere says:

William and Kate do not pay rent at KP or Anmer, so yes, that counts as quite a deal. They also don’t pay any of their living costs or their staff.

The elder royal cousins are still working royals. They get their spaces for free at KP in exchange.

What needs to be looked at are things like Anne’s townhouse at SJP, where she let’s her adult kids live for free whenever they want to be in London. She doesn’t pay rent for that. Other working royals (Edward, Sophie, formerly Andrew) got small free suites at BP. A town place to stay overnight when away from the country house for work. But Anne getting a huge space at SJP plus her huge private home Gatcombe?

  28. Julia K says:

I do not understand how Frogmore can be considered a gift from the Queen when they had to pay for the renovation and rent on top of that. It’s much like my gifting a grandchild an old car that needs hundreds of dollars work to make it usable and then asking for monthly payments as well! Some gift.

    • Lizzie says:

I think this is just one more f-u from the queen to Harry. Like Christmas message where his picture was excluded from the family pictures displayed and the queen refused to mention Archie’s name. Big surprise he is not going back for more of that treatment.

    • GuestwithCat says:

I’ve always thought that, too. Worst gift ever. It’s under an airport flight path, too.

And I know it wasn’t intentional but that “gift” brought them nothing but controversy. I think they would unload it completely if they had normal ownership of it. But this arrangement they have to be financially responsible for it but unable to sell or outright lease it practically shackles them to the house. And clearly there’s little privacy to be had there.

Probably a KP apartment was what the Queen thought most suitable and that was her choice. She either didn’t know or thought the trouble with the Cambridges was “silly” which apparently how she dismisses emotional difficulties and genuine struggles in her family. So she or an aide fobbed Frogmore Cottage on them. Or maybe they requested it. No matter, it’s Jack’s and Eugenie’s house for now. I hope they enjoy it. I don’t think paparazzi and palace spies will force them to require greater privacy than Frogmore can provide.

Still, given a choice between Anmer and Frogmore, I would pick Frogmore for myself. I was absolutely shocked when I recently looked Anmer up to see what it looks like. Just the photos were enough to drain my soul. No wonder Kate looks like she does. It’s depressing. Bigger doesn’t mean better.

I was expecting something with a bit of charm and flair like the Chomondeley’s estate. Oh hell naw! Anmer is ugly.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate is holding on to when she gets access to everything so Anmer is just a temporary stop for her. I don’t feel bad for her at all. And they have done quite well already with KP. They will be getting more once the older cousins pass.

      • Harper says:

GuestwithCat, I think that Anmer is ugly too, considering that the country is full of beautiful estates. And it has a stupid name that no one can remember how to spell. Knowing that Rose has the bigger palace right now, and that her errant husband Willileaks was probably swanning around enjoying the splendor of Houghton must irk Kate.

    • Lowrider says:

Harry put 2.5 – 3 million into Crown Estate property and he doesn’t even get to live in it or sell it for profit. Some gift indeed.

      He got punked.

      • notasugarhere says:

No one was punked. He has the same arrangement Andrew, Edward, and Princess Alexandra have for the Crown Estate properties where they live.

      • Except none of the estates that Andrew, Edward, etc live in used to be servants quarters or staff lodging which has a roadway about 10 yards from the corner of the house. It really was the worst of the worst.

      • notasugarhere says:

And there are a limited number of Crown Estate properties. They weren’t going to kick Princess Alexandra out of her place, nor the former Canadian diplomat who is friend of Charles. He lives at Fort Belvedere, which would only have made haters rub their hands in glee about the Wallis associations.

Staff apartments not ‘servants’. It also used to be where the royals housed their royal cousins. Queen Charlotte lived there with her daughters for a time, but I guess a former Queen living there full-time isn’t good enough for you.

There is no roadway 10 yards from the house. There is a walking path that is only accessible two days a year when the gardens at Frogmore House are open to the public.

    • notasugarhere says:

Why do people keep misunderstanding how Crown Estate leases work?

The Queen never gives away property, that’s just the language they use. What she did was get the Crown Estate managers to find a CE properties for Harry and Meghan to lease. As she did for Andrew. As she did for Edward.

      • Carrie says:

Totally got plunked. Please Google Bagshot Park. Some 87 rooms set on 51 acres. This for Edward. Anne got Gatcombe which is a massive property. Andrew got a new build which he sold – very shady deal. So yes, M&H absolutely got plunked.

      • notasugarhere says:

Anne, Edward, Andrew. Younger children of a monarch. Harry? Younger child of a future monarch. Difference in status at the time of their marriages.

No, Harry didn’t get punked. Edward paid half the fixup for Bagshot plus has to pay annual rent. He had to rent out part of the space to a company because he couldn’t afford it all himself. Once Charles is king, he isn’t going to be sending any extra money Edward’s way like the Queen does. Doubtful Edward and Sophie will be able to stay there for long after that. They’ll have to sublet or sell the lease. Andrew? With any luck he’ll be in an orange jumpsuit soon.

Harry and Meghan appear to have paid a lump sum upfront, which then gives them decades of occupany for years without paying rent. They can sublet and make money, they can sell the lease and make money.

      • Lady D says:

Thank you for the explanation, nota. I finally understand.

      • TheAnonymousPimpernel says:

Thank you, nota. I understand too.

      • PrincessK says:

Bagshot is a millstone around the Wessexes neck and if rumours are true they struggle with its upkeep, and that is why Sophie is pleased to be upgraded in royal duties in the absence of the Sussexes, more money. Unfortunately nobody in the UK and internationally is interested in meeting and greeting them, and their chances of raising loads of dosh for charity is zero.

    • PrincessK says:

I agree a rather odd gift that now has to be paid back. I suppose having the right to live on the Windsor estate is a gift of a sort.

  29. Ec0978 says:

I just think this is nice all around? I actually hope Meghan and Harry are on good terms with some family and that the supposed anger over baby announcements, etc. was never true. After that mean spectacle by the Cambridges at the Commonwealth service it makes me happy to think there is some family that hasn’t turned on them.

Frogmore still belongs to the Sussex’s at this point so they are subletting to Eugenie – good for them. There was talk that at some point the 2 York Princesses getting cottages/apartments in Kensington Palace but given Daddy thats unlikely now.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are supposedly moving out of their KP apartment which was to go to the Sussex’s – wonder who will get it now? They (the Gloucesters) were apparently quite happy to do so as they wanted somewhere smaller close by.

    • Sofia says:

Either the Cambridges take it right now or they’ll wait until George is 18 or 21 and give the apartment to him. Might wait even longer and give that apartment to him and his spouse when they marry

So yeah the Cambridges get it at the end because I don’t see anyone else who can/will get a KP apartment other than the Cambridge kids

      • I’ll bet behind the scenes, Andrew is angling hard for it. After all he no longer has space at BP so I’m sure he’s pressing mommy for a town apartment befitting his status of favorite son for when he’s in London.

    • GuestwithCat says:

The Cambridges apparently suck all the oxygen out of whatever space they occupy so I would think even a cousin on good terms like Eugenie would be wary of living in the same palace, especially with her uncle always throwing his weight around against “spares”.

As much as we all loathe Andrew, I imagine there’s so much dysfunction coming into this world being impressed from the very beginning that you and your siblings are mere accessories to the eldest. And when that eldest starts making it amply clear nobody else matters but himself and his progeny, and the entire country and the institution you’re born into backs him up on that, it’s very warping.

It is incredibly fortunate for Harry that Diana did recognize the toxicity of that and fought against it and lived long enough to shine a small light on a way out for Harry.

Yeah, I couldn’t imagine living in even a palace with a cousin who thinks he’s the end all, be all and who drove his own brother out of the country and is yet still raging with jealousy.

      • Nic919 says:

I agree with you, but why even bother with any of the properties linked to royals, as Eugenie has done with Ivy Cottage and now Frogmore. Surely she and Jack can find something outside of that circle to live? After all William will be running the properties soon enough.

    • notasugarhere says:

Frogmore Cottage does not belong to the Sussexes, any more than Royal Lodge belongs to Andrew or Bagshot to Edward. They own the lease on the property, not the building itself.

    • February-Pisces says:

The best thing for Beatrice and Eugenie to do is get far away from any royal owned property get their owns homes. I think eventually when Charles is in charge then Willie, those girls will eventually get screwed over if they stay on royal land. Plus I’m sure bea and Eugenie don’t want to have to eventually kiss Willie ass and live under the threat that he can turf them out if he want to. But I think for now, they are fine.

      • notasugarhere says:

If they were moving onto Sandringham (private property) that might be the case. But Kensington Palace or a Crown Estate property? If they have legal leases, they cannot be thrown out by Charles or William. They are just another renter who has the law on their side. The Windsors do not own Kensington Palace or the Crown Estate properties.

      • February-Pisces says:

My point is that the sisters need to distance themselves and become independent from anything associated with them because Charles might be soft with them, but with Willie everything comes at a price. Once the queen is gone william will get 100x worse and these girls won’t have granny backing them up anymore. Whether he could evict them or not if they did live somewhere like KP, doesn’t mean he won’t threaten them with it if they don’t do as he says.

      • notasugarhere says:

Charles hates Andrew; he isn’t going to be soft on Eugenie or Beatrice. Charles wants them and their grifter mother out of royal properties.

      • PrincessK says:

If there is a very long lease like the Wessexes have then there is nothing that Willie can to to turf anyone out. He will have power but not that much.

  31. RoyalBlue says:

I think all round this is some good paying it forward by Harry and Meghan. Given the generosity of other folks to allow them to stay in Vancouver and California until they settled into their own place, it’s a lovely gesture to do the same for his cousin. Love the positive vibes they give off.

    • Lowrider says:

Harry doesn’t have much choice. He can either rent it or let it go and lose 2.5 million.

It was a stupid decision on his part to invest all that money in property he will never own.

      • RoyalBlue says:

if his lease is anything like Edward’s then the substance of the transaction is that he owns it, even if the legal form says otherwise. for the rest of his life and for archie’s life and possibly any grandchildren they will have. it is his. so it’s not a stupid decision. they are royals and at some point several years from now this will be water under the bridge and he will return periodically for his work.

      • MsIam says:

@Lowrider you act like Harry should have known he would have to leave the country due to his A-hole family when he and Meghan moved in. Harry didn’t “invest” anything in Frogmore, it was a dump and the landlord was responsible for making it habitable. Harry paid back the renovation money to shut up the haters and the tabloids. They are the only ones who should bear any shame or scrutiny for this deal.

      • notasugarhere says:

Alexandra, Edward, Andrew, Harry do not own the Crown Estate properties they lease. People seem to be deliberately ignorant around Crown Estate property.

You purchase a lease for a Crown Estate property. It isn’t a stupid decision, it is a way to get a premium property leased to you for decades for far below market rent.

You pay to help fix up the property if it needs it, which is done in exchange for not paying annual rent. Not paying rent for decades. Andrew paid the full amount for Royal Lodge, now gets it rent free for 75 years. Edward has as hybrid where he and Crown Estate split the cost and he pays additional (small) annual rent. Now something like 150 years on that lease. Harry didn’t do anything differently than those others.

      • Totally agree MsIAm. He didn’t invest £2.4 million to bring it up to snuff. Frogmore was scheduled for major repairs. The R🐀R made such a stink about the money spent that Harry and Meghan offered to pay it back. That came out during the meeting between the Queen, Charles, William, and Harry. The 3 were shocked that H/M insisted they reimburse the Crown Estate.

      • notasugarhere says:

Frogmore Cottage was scheduled for upgrades for things like electric and plumbing, but was to remain a 5 apartment unit (2 bedrooms per unit). Changing it back to a single family home did require extra.

  32. JT says:

What I don’t understand about Eugenie’s or Beatrice’s husbands are the supposed wealth. Aren’t the Brooksbanks and Mozzis rich. Isn’t the PR around these families are that they have millions and have titles which is why they are such good matches for the york girls. Why do both couples move into small quarters on royal properties for free or deeply discounted rent if these men have money?

    • GuestwithCat says:

They probably still need the security and privacy that living on Royal estates provides. These women are still princesses and still are subject to paparazzi scrutiny and security risks and perhaps more so now that their father is notorious. And if they want their parents to be visiting regularly and see the new baby, this is probably the best living arrangement available.

I read in one of the sources on this news that they are NOT paying rent, but it was made clear Harry is still financially responsible for the property. So there is that bonus to them if it’s true.

      • JT says:

So their husbands can’t afford the security to protect them? I mean, Harry is still a prince but since he isn’t a working royal he isn’t entitled to security. He and Meg have to pay to protect themselves. Even when they were working there was outrage over their security. The Yorks are in the same position and yet they essentially live like working royals do.

      • GuestwithCat says:

Sorry I have to reply to myself to answer your question. I think their husbands could probably pay for their security but living in a property like this helps eliminate that concern and probably gives them more security than they would want to pay for on their own. And again there’s a proximity to Sarah and Andrew within the protected boundaries that’s an added bonus.

Even Harry and Meghan were able to maintain some level of stealth while at Frogmore. But I do wonder because there was a LOT of gossip that people keeping watch on the house didn’t see signs of life there at times Harry and Meghan were supposed to be there. Harry and Meghan have proven they’ve got mad ninja skills when it comes to evading paparazzi. Frogmore could have been a red herring and they could have been holed up in a tiny workers cottage for all we know. They were truly under siege by the press and I can only wonder at the steps they had to take to keep Meghan safe from prying telephoto lenses when she was pregnant. I bet whatever they did, they didn’t let his brother hear of it.

      • notasugarhere says:

If Beatrice and Eugenie need security or secure housing, it is up to them to provide it, not the taxpayers. They haven’t had taxpayer security in many years, since they turned 18 or so. Neither have Zara and Peter. Princess Margaret’s grown children didn’t live in secured royal housing; no need for Beatrice or Eugenie to do so.

      • Nic919 says:

Yeah the security reason doesn’t fly for me anymore than it would for Zara or Peter. They are adults who can work and pay for their own security. These properties are part of Crown Estates and should be more available for the government and not the extended family of the Queen.

  33. BnLurkN4eva says:

My personal opinion is that they, (H/M) were asked to do this possibly by Eugenie, or maybe the queen herself. Then again I don’t consider the Windsors are a close family that treat each other well, so any actions that says otherwise is suspicious to me. Also, I can’t forget the shit Meghan got for supposedly upstaging Eugenie’s and Jack’s wedding by announcing pregnancy, not Harry who is the father of the baby and the actual blood relative who would have likely been the one to reveal anything, Meghan. I can’t forget that Eugenie never once let it be known that it wasn’t true, or shown an ounce of support to H/M so unless H/M are actual saints, I say they were asked to do this and they said, SURE, take it.

  34. Harla says:

The Sussex’s continue to inspire with their kindness and refusal to be petty, I don’t know if I have it in me to do the same but they’ve certainly given me something to think about.

    • Lowrider says:

Nah. That’s how people walk all over you.

It’s important to set up boundaries from leeches and back stabbers.

  35. Elle Eagle says:

Perhaps The Sun didn’t intend any shade, but for such a hierarchy-obsessed institution, the first sentence, “Harry and Meghan” and then, “Princess Eugenie@? Why, one might think that Princess Eugenie outranked Prince Henry.
Call me when they start saying, “Eugenie and Jack”…you know , the royals that were so important that they didn’t even get a house.

  36. RoyalBlue says:

I am glad the Queen did not gift Eugenie and Jack a home. It’s time these freeloaders got on with their lives like Madeline did with her husband. Somehow the British royals encourage their young ones to keep holding on to the apron strings, which is terrible for their personal and professional development.

  37. Cg2495 says:

I think this is for the best. They relocated to California and I don’t think they are going back anytime soon, plus why stay in a house that’s most likely bugged ? Let his cousins take it and they can stay with true friends or a hotel when they visit. I also think the cousin is paying rent, so works for both couples.

  38. GuestwithCat says:

Okay first off, damn, Eugenie is pretty without makeup. I mean actually prettier. Casual really suits her and Jack well.

    Now onto the gossip part.

Go to Omid’s Harpers Bazaar article to get the whole story that’s supposedly more sourced from someone in Harry’s side to get this:

“The Sussexes will retain the financial responsibility for Frogmore Cottage, which they have spent $3.2 million of their own money renovating (after repaying funding from the Sovereign Grant when they stepped back from official royal roles). It is not believed that Eugenie and Jack will pay rent on the space, but the decision to live there was discussed with other members of the royal family”.

It’s a bear to switch around on my tiny cell phone to get all the links but there are a number of articles with details such as a quote from Buckhingham Palace that basically tells the reporter go bother Harry for details as this has nothing to do with the Queen as it is his property. The quote is so salty sounding. The Queen’s minions clearly sniff disdainfully at all things Sussex related. There are so many ways of wording a “no comment” and they go for the saltiest snootiest tone every time it involves Harry and/or Meghan.

I’ve seen some accounts (might have been at People??) that say Betty only was told after it was all done and settled. Which would disappoint all the trolls who wanted it to be the Queen who snatched the cottage from Harry and Meghan and gave it to Eugenie.

Omid’s article makes it clear Harry is delighted to give them the cottage to use. I’m sure he’d give it to them for keeps if he could. I really don’t know what action he would have to take to unload that property IF he really wanted to. Since it’s a wedding gift from Granny, he may wait until she’s gone to untether himself from it. Again, IF that is what he and Meghan want to do.

A part of me thinks it would be cool if Meghan is also pregnant and she and Eugenie are bonding over expecting together. But ugh, I hate a womb watch so I guess I will put that in the realm of fan fiction. I do hope they truly do get along though. Sometimes cousins are easier going than siblings.

    • Nic919 says:

Harry is being nice here and this should be acknowledged. I do hope that Eugenie and Jack are paying something though.

      • Why does everyone just mention Harry. Frogmore is Harry and Meghan’s home and I’m sure as husband and wife made a joint decision to allow Eugenie and Jack the use of it. Thus, it was generous and kind of Harry AND Meghan…..not just Harry.

      • erni says:

More important to me, at least Eugenie needs to speak up and acknowledge Harry’s kindness. Being quiet confirmed what a freeloader she is.

  39. RoyalBlue says:

comment i was replying to was deleted.

  40. GuestwithCat says:

Does anyone who is better plugged into the gossip know if William is also close to Eugenie and Beatrice? I hear about Harry and them a bit. I saw William on that outing with the Tindals but never really hear about him with these two.

    • notasugarhere says:

William sat back while Kate bullied his York cousins. Does that tell you what you need to know?

      • Lizzie says:

And they wore those hilarious hats to his wedding.

      • PrincessK says:

Those hats at the wedding stole the show and did exactly what they were supposed to do, take away attention from Kate. The York sisters had the last laugh.
The wedding was remembered mainly for Pippa’s flat bum and the ridiculous York hat, which raised thousands for charity in the end.

  41. Kyliegirl says:

I’m actually really pleased to hear this. One, it really pissed off the RR because now they know for sure H&M are not coming back and they should just chuck the March review off. Two, since sustainability is a key issue for H it allows the home to be used. Last but not least, it also shows the kindness of Harry and Meghan, something that was not really shown to them. Meghan knows first hand how awful it is to be abused by the press during pregnancy and as a new mother. It seems like something is going to break about Andrew soon so the glare on Eugenie is going to grow. KP doesn’t allow much privacy. At Frogmore they can have the space to be a growing family. Plus, it will make all the other members of the family look like the selfish snobs they are when they fight for the handouts and Harry and Meghan are in a position to give their gift away for fee.

  42. Lowrider says:

Harry was dumb to sink all that money into a home he will no longer live in and cannot sell. If he’s not collecting rent from Eugenie then he is not the sharpest tool in the box.

Why didn’t Eugenie or Andrew purchase a home for herself. I distinctly remember a Sun article bragging about how much money the daddy York and the Brooksbank have. Eugene would never want for cash. But here we are; she’s newly married with an incoming baby and squatting in her cousins rental.

This family really is a bunch of grifters.

    • Sam says:

@lowrider it gets him untangled more and more from England.

He paid it off to get rid of the stick the press was beating him with. They are not beating up on Eugenia and that alone helps people who don’t buy into the RR rubbish see things more and more clearly.

He’s smart….the crown getting people to see why they left, this just adding another item to show the hypocrisy of the media, it’s worth every penny.

    • notasugarhere says:

Are you deliberately misunderstanding how Crown Estate leases work? They are often a huge economic deal for the person who leases the property. You pay to help fix up the property, in turn you get a rent-free lease for decades. Nothing stupid in that. You can sell the lease too.

  43. Steph says:

Wasn’t it covered on here that the Yorks were part of the smear campaign against Meghan bc she told ppl at Eugenie’s wedding that she was pregnant?
Harry and Meghan paid not only the renovations cost but an upfront amount to cover the cost of their rent for “the foreseeable future.” I don’t see why they’d do that if they weren’t planning on using it.
I don’t think this was a generous gift at all. I think they were either forced to or agreed to do it so the BRF wouldn’t be criticized again for renovation costs on another two homes (Beatrice is going to need one too). And maybe without a specific known residence they might get less media scrutiny when they do go back. Like the papers can’t run with the headline “how dare they stay at an expensive hotel after all the money that went into their house!” as they did with one of Harry’s final engagements.

    • Eugh says:

I think maybe at the Fergie and Andrew level, but Prince Harry filmed that video for World Health day at Eugenie’s cottage just last year. They seem fine to me by the sounds of house swap

    • PrincessK says:

Don’t believe everything you read…that was just yet another story concocted by the gutter press to smear and foment hatred towards Meghan.

  44. Midnight@theOasis says:

Unloading Frogmore sends a clear message. H&M are totally done with all the Royal BS. So I guess that one year review that the RRs and tabloids were salivating over definitely won’t be happening now.😂😂

  45. Beach Dreams says:

Russell Myers is now reporting that “senior royals” were supposedly blindsided by this news…I suppose the senior royals in question are holed up in Norfolk at the moment and incandescent with rage.

  46. HeyJude says:

Yes, you chased your generous ginger prince right over to America and we’re not giving him back! We got the best one!

    …Na na na boo boo!

  47. HeatherC says:

I’m a super petty person, even if most of my most petty actions and words I can only do in my head (Lol). But if I were the Sussexes at the same level of petty I like to think in…that “midnight move” wouldn’t have just been furniture. It would also have been any appliance I personally paid for. And carpeting/flooring. And don’t forget the copper tub! ( lol /s)

  48. anotherlily says:

There’s a lot of confusion about royal housing. The Queen owns Sandringham House and the Sandringham Estate. She gifted a house on the estate to William and Kate. She also owns Balmoral Castle and the surrounding Estate. Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle are owned and managed by the Crown Estate which gives all profits to the Treasury. The Treasury pays a proportion of these funds to the Queen as a’Sovereign Grant’ to cover working expenses of ‘The Firm’, apart from the Prince of Wales who has the profits from the Duchy of Cornwall from which he pays the expenses of William and Kate.

These royal palaces include private accommodation for members of the royal family, who may or may not have an official role. In the past royals who had no official role paid only a nominal rent. These include Prince and Princess Michael of Kent who have lived in a palatial apartment within Kensington Palace for around 40 years. When the system was reformed by the Treasury those royals with no official role had to pay market rents, which led to disputes establishing who pays what in maintaining and refurbishing these residencies. Eugenie and her husband were living in Ivy Cottage in KP which was renovated for them with at least some of the cost coming from Crown Estate funds.

Frogmore Cottage was created from 5 unoccupied and dilapidated former staff cottages. Prince Harry paid for all the internal fixtures, fittings, decoration etc. The Sovereign Grant paid for the building work with additional funds from the Treasury i.e. public money. Harry’s legal position would have been similar to a secure tenant. When he stood down from an official role he would have to pay a market rent but he was under no legal obligation to refund the cost of the building work. However, the fact that he has done this will have enhanced his legal rights. His lawyers would certainly have been involved. He possibly now has leaseholder rights which allow him to sub-let the property to another member of the royal family with the Queen’s agreement.

The Daily Mail’s is now ranting about senior royals being ‘blindsided’ by this arrangement, although it is acknowledged that the Queen was aware. In other words the Cambridge/Middleton ‘sources’ couldn’t leak the information.

    • notasugarhere says:

She didn’t give Anmer to W&K, just as she didn’t give it to the Duke and Duchess of Kent years ago when they lived in it. All she’s doing is letting them live there rent-free; she still owns it personally.

  49. blunt talker says:

Harry and Meghan have shown their generous natures in letting Eugenie and her husband live there. Since they are not living there, this bodes well for the 4 couples involved. The toxic media can go shit themselves over and over again. The house to me from the outside reminds me of a funeral parlor/home-I don’t know why-I think when I was youngster I visited a funeral home that looked like that in the front-I have said this time and again the Sussex family move with stealth when they want to keep others out of their business. America truly got a wonderful person in Harry-he has shown more kindness and restraint than was shown to him. I hope both couples are happy with their decision. Good luck to all of them.

  50. JanetDR says:

The only thing I feel qualified to say about this is that I hate that header picture of Harry! 😂 (blue shirt)
The fact that he and Meghan were able to annoy some people with their generosity is so on target for 2020.

  51. Sunnyvale says:

I wonder who leaked this to the sun. Harry and Meghan are a class act doing this knowing how stressful it is to be a expecting parents. They keep doing things for others without getting(or probably expecting) a return. I mean Meghan was bullied whilst pregnant about a horrible rumour that she “ruined” Eugenie’s wedding by announcing her pregnancy at the wedding and none of them(Jack & eugenie) said anything
