Hogan Gidley: Donald Trump is ‘the most masculine person’ ever in the White House

President Donald J. Trump Meets African-American Supporters

Can you believe we, as a society, are still debating Twitter’s suspension of Donald Trump’s account? It’s pretty clear that Trump’s suspension was a long time coming, and that it should have happened months ago, if not years ago. He used his Twitter to spread dangerous conspiracies, incite terrorism and manufacture misinformation and political propaganda. The issue isn’t “why would Twitter suspend Trump’s account and leave all of the other problematic accounts active?” The issue is “Twitter should suspend ALL of the accounts which spread lies and misinformation and incite terrorism.”

Anyway, Trump National Press Secretary Hogan Gidley was asked if Trump felt “emasculated” by the Twitter ban – because I guess masculinity (toxic or otherwise) is tied to lies, violence and conspiracies – and Gidley responded by calling Trump “the most masculine person to ever hold the White House as the president of the United States.”

Imagine believing Trump is the pinnacle of masculinity. Imagine thinking anyone’s masculinity is tied to their Twitter account. Imagine being so ignorant of history that you believe Trump is more masculine than a war hero like JFK, a personification of testosterone like Teddy Roosevelt, or US Grant, who f–king won the Civil War. The way the media and the public narrative has centered around soothing and inflating Trump’s fragile and toxic masculinity over the past five years has been one of the most damaging things to our country.

Speaking of, other world leaders have gotten a good look at Trump’s fragile masculinity for years, and they can’t help but feed into it. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said words yesterday about how she actually thinks it’s really problematic that Twitter suspended Trump’s account. Yeah… again, if *anyone* is using their social media account to incite terrorism and actually PLAN terrorist attacks, I still have zero issue with a private company using their own standards to suspend accounts.

Re: Twitter – I dont understand the backlash from some people about the account being suspended (meaning from people who are NOT die hard Trumpers.) I’m seeing a lot of comments on twitter and facebook about how “its problematic…slippery slope….etc” and my response is – NO. Twitter is a private company that has very clear terms of use/service. Trump violated those terms. I am sure we all know people who were suspended from twitter (albeit temporarily) for much less than what Trump has done over the years. So no, I dont have a problem with Trump being suspended from twitter. It’s not a first amendment violation. He broke the rules and there are (finally) some consequences for that.

As for the idea of Trump being the most masculine president….ew. I dont even have to get into what being “masculine” means because we know how it is being used in this context, and yeah, the idea that Trump is the “most masculine” president ever just feels like something from SNL.

It’s nothing more that ass kissing – jockeying for a future position in the Trump ‘regime’ whatever form that takes after the 20th Jan.

    • Merricat says:

I think he meant “most mescaline.” I’d agree with that.

    • whatWHAT? says:

when the guy who calls you “the most masculine ever” looks like the embodiment of a Mad Magazine cover, you need a better spokesperson.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

DO NOT diss Alfred E. with a comparison to this traitous POS (only half joking! lol. BIG (original) MAD fan here!)

      • Exactly says:

        @WHATWHAT? 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🧠👌🏽♥️👏🏽❣️

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Trump’s toxic masculinity is probably overcompensation for his tiny hands/d!ck. Insecure men can be very dangerous.

  2. Seraphina says:

I read something floating around yesterday that in essence read: these people, humans, think people should have a right to Twitter but not health care. That was a thinking moment.
The most masculine person in the WH EVER? Then we have far more personality disorders to discuss, when examining Mr. Donnie Trump, then just narcissism.

    • Esmom says:

I know, it was a stark observation. But the Twitter outrage is designed to deflect from the insurrection. Fox News is leading the charge in deflecting away from what the real issues are, namely that Trump, and other guys like Cruz and Hawley, has cultivated an army of terrorists.

  3. Amy Bee says:

The most ‘toxic’ masculine person, I think he meant to say.

  4. Ella says:

Maybe it’s not so much about the ago or the casually megalomaniacal incitements to violence but the radiant complexion, the luxuriant head of hair in a shade that defies description, the elegantly-proportioned hands, the pudgy midsection, the pudgy every-other-section, and the impeccably-untailored suits that wear like pajamas! He’s the gold standard of masculinity! Not gold exactly, but the healthy jaundiced glow of Dihydroxyacetone.

In all seriousness, most people wouldn’t even leap to assertions of masculinity in response to questions about feeling “emasculated,” given that the term is usually used figuratively. Methinks Gidley doth protest too much. He may as well have said “He’s not biologically a eunuch, and he can prove it.”

  5. vertes says:

Masculine? Because he was a great athlete or did military service??
Trump fails any reasonable definition of “masculinity.” Badly dyed hair, spray tan, horrible personality, & the flat feet that kept him from military service. He’s a wallowing pig, ready for a heart attack or stroke, which can’t happen soon enough for me.
Remember how he bailed on the European Veterans’ Day honoring the WWI soldiers, which so many other heads of state participated in? He didn’t want to do the walk & went back to his limo.

    • FHMom says:

Not to mention, he can’t take a drop of criticism. I don’t think this guy knows what the word means.

    • Capepopsie says:

      @vertes please don’t insult piggs, they are highly intelligent compared. . . . . .

  6. Esmom says:

“The way the media and the public narrative has centered around soothing and inflating Trump’s fragile and toxic masculinity over the past five years has been one of the most damaging things to our country.”

This. A million times this. I feel like the media just began to cover him more appropriately after the election when he wouldn’t stop with the “stolen election” BS. But it was a lesson learned way, way, way too late.

I’m still holding my breath waiting for them to shift the narrative about the insurrection. We already have guys who screamed about Benghazi incessantly, for years, and held dozens of hearings all saying we need to “lower the temperature” and that impeachment is “too divisive.” All while completely failing to acknowledge or even get much push back on the fact that the “temperature” has been raised BY TRUMP and any divisiveness is ALL on him and them, from day one of his presidency.

    • Traveler says:

It is par for the course. We have seen this tactic time and time again. This time they’re scared, this went way too far so now they trot out the “it’s time to seek unity”, consequences will be too “divisive” mantra. Come on, which deflection narrative is it? Any and all, throw something at the wall and see which one we are stupid enough to let stick? I thought it was antifa masquerading as drump loonies – no, that didn’t work – time to try “let bygones be bygones”.
Geezus, I read (headline only) that Bill O’Reilly wants drumpf to leave with dignity, have breakfast with Biden. Leave with dignity?! That ship has sailed and long since capsized.
      Impeach and remove!

  7. Kelly says:

To be completely honest, I’m not sure if suspending Trump’s account now will do more good than bad. Of course he deserves it, but the time to do that was when he started talking about building the wall 5 years ago. He already achieved what he had to with twitter – to normalize hate speech and make it a valid political platform. His term ended and he gained MORE followers than he had before and was close to winning again.

Banning him now, a few days away from his term’s end, is too little too late. With hate speech normalized, taking it away from people feels like censorship to them. They are already whining about that, how this is literally China and Cuba, that the Dems are already running authoritarian censoring tactics, etc. Because that’s authoritarian, obviously, unlike the completely democratic and peaceful siege of the Capitol they just staged.

Silencing these people is just that. Silencing them – to us. Their opinions will remain the same and now that they can’t share them they’ll feel wrongly oppressed. And they are half of this country. No one who voted for Trump is regretting their vote after what happened. You can silence and even persecute a smaller extremist group, but not half of the country. What they can’t discuss online publicly will be discussed in private, in private chat rooms or in real life. More than a long time coming or some sort of justice, at this point, this looks like cowardly sweeping a problem under the rug.

I’m scared, but I’m not just scared for Washington. I’m scared for all the people who don’t have the highest-ranking security officials at their aide. The ones who didn’t make it to the Capitol can still take their guns to the grocery store. They can harrass and murder that BLM activist from college who always grated their nerves. They can take their anger at feminists out on their wives.

Frankly, I don’t even know if this would be “better” had Trump not been banned from twitter. But I’m convinced this won’t fix anything at this point. Just because we’re not reading their bull doesn’t mean they aren’t still thinking it.

    • Merricat says:

Yeah, let’s not do anything. Not doing anything accomplishes so much! And there’s the added bonus that not doing anything is tacit approval of insurrection! (Sarcasm)
Please. We stand up to tyrants.

    • Elizabeth says:

Twitter also just suspended seventy thousand Q-Anon accounts. Removing them from social media removes their primary method of communication, which is a tactical move to prevent their organization and action. Should this have been done earlier? Yes absolutely. But it still will help.

    • Ainsley7 says:

Banning his account and others that spread lies is the best way to get people out of the cult and make sure more people do not become radicalized. Without the echo chamber, it really will die down. Just look at the protest outside of Twitter in San Francisco. Only 1 Trump supporter showed up. It doesn’t matter what they believe if they can’t organize.

      • Kelly says:

You’re being really naive if you think twitter was the only echo chamber these people had or that Trump was the only person they were following.

The cult is already too big and too deeply brainwashed. People staged coups and terrorist attacks long before computers existed. It can be done without twitter.

Im not saying he didnt have it coming. Im saying the time for this was before he was elected, not a couple weeks before he has to go. That wouldve prevented him from doing any damage. Now that the damage is already done, it will hardly repair anything.

      • Eleonora says:

They should learn that actions have consequences and that they will lose mainstream services if they behave like crazy people.

      • Lady D says:

Kelly, they are not half of your country. At 74 million strong they are far closer to 1/5 of your country. That’s one in five, not to mention half of that filthy 1/5 will slink home like cowards the minute they have to stand on their own.

    • Sunnydaze says:

I get where you’re coming from, and I also think it’s important to understand these social media platforms are how a majority of these people became radicalized. Yes, of course there will be people who have these awful ideologies, but things like qanon are literally internet conspiracies….had it been snuffed out a long time ago it would have been some weird thing a few nutjobs believed. But social media has allowed not only it’s birth, but it’s growth and dissemination to be standard in algorithm. People who would be we have entertained such a bizarre conspiracy are now believing it as an objective reality because it’s been tailored to their world. That’s why the idea of free speech/censorship is so difficult to debate, because people don’t understand it still allows for consequence (ESPECIALLY by privately owned companies) – do you have a right to say something that is blatant lie? I guess, but when that lie leads to radicalization because of how info is disseminated, social media in particular have an obligation to keep the guardrails on. If posting nude pics leads to a violation of services and suspension certainly an account associated with radicalizing individuals and destroying families and attempting to overthrow the government must be subject to those same guardrails. Is it too late to put the toothpaste back in? Maybe, I hope not, but we must still act otherwise there will be a literal precedent set for anyone to say anything regardless of the consequences.

    • Amy Too says:

Banning them and him from Twitter means that they have to work a lot harder to chat with each other, plan insurrections, consume QAnon theories and outright lies being portrayed as news, and spread their ideas. A lot of people are lazy. The people who were just sort of on the fringes of this Trumpism, the ones who believe some of it and will read his stuff but who won’t go out and seize the Capitol by force, are probably not going to jump through a bunch of hoops to find the underground Trump social media site being hosted by some guy’s basement computer server. I feel like there will be a lot of people who, when no longer constantly inundated by Trump lies to rile them up, will start to care and less and less and go back to “not caring about politics.” He’s not there to give them their multiple shots a day of radicalization, and without it, they might just be able to detox from it all.

And the people who haven’t been radicalized yet, the teenagers who are just starting to pay attention to politics, the people who are just starting to get into fringe-MAGA stuff like anti-vax, or some certain diet/exercise groups, or alien conspiracy stuff that will over link to Trump stuff or who are linked algorithmically with Trump stuff, are no longer going to have Trump and qanon showing up in their feed as “here’s something you might like…” These hardcore terrorist Trump people are not going to be found on the mainstream platforms, like Twitter, as easily. It stops the spread of this information and the lies and conspiracy theories so that you have to really WANT to find them and engage with them in order to do so. It proves that these “theories” and ideologies are not normal and mainstream and considered to be the normal counterpoint to Dem stances, if one literally has to be invited into the dark web to read and comment on them. It helps to say “these views are no longer mainstream acceptable.”

Maybe it’s the lack of sleep, but this whole “he’s the most masculine man who has ever manned” is making me sing the “Be A Man” song from Mulan. I can totally see DT regretting cutting gym, especially when he goes to lift that super-heavy glass of water. Let’s get down to business, ladies/gents.

  10. Miss D says:

Everyone knows that Eisenhower was a big sissy!

  11. Marigold says:

It was a dumb question with an even dumber answer.

  12. BearcatLawyer says:

Most masculine ever in the WH? PLEASE.

I did see a very funny meme yesterday that I think my Celebitches would appreciate:

“In the end Trump cost Republicans the presidency, the House, and the Senate. The SOB actually did it. He made America great again.”

  13. equality says:

We have had presidents who served honorably in the military, who helped establish and build a brand new country, who led with creativity and wisdom during wars, depressions and internal conflict but Trump is the most masculine ever? Somebody should have asked this man’s definition of being masculine.

    • Sushiroll says:

      Couldn’t have said it better.

And dignified silence from previous great presidents (re: their masculinity), because they lived by honorable example.

They didn’t and don’t need to announce and flap masculinity to the winds, like a soggy diarrhea diaper. Which is about how ‘masculine’ Trump has or ever will be.

He’s a joke that writes itself. SAD!

  14. ClaireB says:

In the thumbnail pic, are those cheek implants on his sagging face?

  15. Rapunzel says:

By the standards of toxic masculinity, yes Trump is the most masculine. By standards of actual manhood, well, we all heard what Stormi Daniels said about that. 😉

  16. greenmonster says:

The most masculine person ever… Somehow Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer on SNL comes to mind: “when Donald Trump entered to room… all men had e*ections and every single one of the women was o*ulating left and right.”

Someone must have seen this clip again and thought ‘if we rephrase that line with a straight face, HE will be happy’.

  17. Teebee says:

It’s clear that to choose to remain tethered to the Trumpster fire right to the end, you have no choice but to bigly him up no matter what. The thing with this particular comment is that it is unintentionally hilarious. He was clearly responding to the idea of Trump losing his BDE mojo, and so he went all in with his defence. Only this dude doesn’t think quick on his feet. I am sure he wishes he hadn’t said it, because it is such a mockable sound bite, and he bears the brunt for having said it. Trump loves it, probably clapped at the TV when he watched it.

And now he rages at the collective laughing at the ridiculous notion. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

    • Sushiroll says:

      TRUMPSTER FIRE!

First time hearing this term and it’s just so elegant and perfect. Tear in my eye.

Not to confuse gender with sexuality, but Gidley’s statement made me retch. Ewwwww.

  19. Sandra says:

If he’s talking about toxic masculinity then, yeah. He’s right.

  20. MF1 says:

Remember, obsession with the leader’s masculinity is a feature of fascism: the fascist leader is always depicted as the most tough, strong, impressive specimen of masculinity to ever exist. This is one of the reasons why his misogynistic followers love him.

  21. GuestwithCat says:

I have met so many toxically masculine men in unexpected places since Trump took office. I’m sure these men has these attitudes all along but knew they wouldn’t fly in decent society so they kept it on the downlow. But now they’re everywhere on every forum, places that were lovely hobby and animal rescue forums that were once places of refuge from sexual harassment, mansplaining, and politics. I did manage to talk one troglodyte out of his cave and get him to think critically but I had to summon saintly levels of patience and serenity. I just wanted him to stop throwing out insults to men that equates them with elderly women. I had to explain why that was a hurtful and demeaning to women and it took awhile for him to understand why he should even have to care if he upset “hypersensitive” people and why he should have his freedom of expression restricted. Initially he attacked me for insulting all men. I think by the end I got him on the road to start thinking about someone beside himself at least for that day.

I see that a lot, a woman or POC or an LGBTQ person tries to point out an overt aggression or micro aggression and suddenly these “masculine” (usually white but not always) guys are the victim. It’s exhausting to have otherwise civil and interesting discussions disrupted constantly by these whining, immature, entitled narcissists and I’ve given up my memberships in the different groups and clubs mailing lists I was on.

Trump normalized such a toxic environment for public discourse and elevated such a toxic image of masculinity and Twitter enabled and indulged him for far too long.

    • Traveler says:

All this toxicity and fascism was always there, it just now has a new and very public lease on life globally.

  22. Veronica S. says:

I think Merkel is talking about the broader implications of technocrats having the final say on who gets a voice. It’s notable that they had no problem enabling far-right fascist terrorism when they could profit from it and only pulled out when it became a tarnish to their name. Yes, this time it was to the benefit of the society – what happens when they find it beneficial to silence the opposite side because fascists promise them power and wealth? Especially considering those big platforms are AMERICAN, yet are used by governments worldwide – how easily could a technocrat impact international politics independent of government action just by muting another leader? There needs to better regulation or flat out Facebook and Twitter need to bar politicians from using the platform altogether.

  23. ChloeCat says:

This Hogan Gidley is obviously an ass kisser. Since when is a 400 pound, orange, insane cretin with a hideous blonde wig the pinnacle of masculinity? Jesus H. Christ!

  24. Zantasia says:
