Donald Trump claimed to House GOP that the 1/6 terrorists were ‘Antifa people’

Donald Trump announces a deal has been reached to briefly reopen the US government

As you can imagine, there are like a million stories involving Donald Trump and how insane and lazy he is. He hasn’t done any actual work since the election, and I would argue that he’s been phoning it in since before then too. We have eight days until the inauguration, and the House will likely vote on impeachment tomorrow. Joe Biden has said that he’d like to wait to have the Senate work on impeachment until he’s in office, which is an interesting turn of events, and it makes me wonder what parliamentary tricks Biden has up his sleeve – he spent decades in the Senate, and he knows all of the loopholes. I feel like Biden’s First 100 Days are going to be pretty busy and crazy (in a good way). Anyway, Politico had a big story about Trump’s isolation, insanity and laziness. Some highlights:

Trump isn’t going to mount a big defense against impeachment: Donald Trump is not expected to mount a forceful White House defense against charges he incited last week’s deadly riots inside the U.S. Capitol, according to a White House official. Trump knows he’s unlikely to be removed from office with Republicans controlling the Senate until next week and only a few days left of his term. The president has also grown increasingly isolated, distrusting the same aides and advisers he had relied on during prior crises in his presidency, including White House Counsel Pat Cipollone. “We’re not building out an aggressive operation to combat these impeachment charges,” a White House official said. “It’s just logistically impossible. Counsel’s office has hollowed out obviously, Cipollone hasn’t been in the president’s circle…Operationally, it’s just not going to look the same.”

All he does it whine about the election: In his final days of his term, Trump is still spending time railing against the election that he lost to Joe Biden in November and surrounding himself with a handful of loyalists — among them Rudy Giuliani — who have been with him since the start, according to interviews with eight current and former Trump aides. “Since the election, the day-to-day stuff as far as signing [executive orders] and focusing on policy has definitely waned because his focus has been on the election and overturning those results,” said the White House official. “We’re not obviously pursuing any policy or anything like that.”

All he does is whine to the same people too: And since Twitter banned his account, Trump has been making more calls than usual — not, as one former Trump aide said, “to more people” but rather, “the same people over and over again….He’s talking to people who are willing to indulge him.”

He’s super-lazy: “Things requiring a presidential signature slowed down for sure, and he was just supremely self-absorbed,” said a former senior administration official. The official said that many conversations with Trump, even those about policy issues, have devolved into the president complaining about an election that he still won’t publicly admit he lost. “There was a feeling of a traffic jam and more and more initiatives that were piling up, and that’s frustrating for everybody,” the former official said.

He finally met with Mike Pence for the first time since Trump sent terrorists to kill Pence: “The two had a good conversation, discussing the week ahead and reflecting on the last four years of the administration’s work and accomplishments,” a senior administration official said. “They also agreed that those who stormed the Capitol do not represent the America First movement.”

Trump also declared a state of emergency in DC: The White House on Monday also said that Trump had “declared that an emergency exists in the District of Columbia” and ordered federal assistance to supplement efforts around the upcoming inauguration day.

[From Politico]

The Pence meeting is such a strange detail – there were helicopters circling the Naval Observatory yesterday (which is the VP’s residence) and people were wondering if Trump was f–king with Pence. Then we heard that Pence came to the WH for a sit-down with Trump and all we’re getting is official-sounding statements about what was discussed. I do wonder about it. But Pence is so weak and craven, I assume he’s already “forgiven” Trump for trying to have him killed.

Also, connected to this Politico story, there was this Axios story about Trump telling House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy that the MAGA terrorists who laid siege to the Capitol were “Antifa people.” McCarthy apparently told Trump: “It’s not Antifa, it’s MAGA. I know. I was there.” Trump was still “ranting about election fraud” and McCarthy pushed back with: “Stop it. It’s over. The election is over.” McCarthy also told Trump he should call and meet with Joe Biden, and follow at least some of the traditional transition norms. When will Mitch McConnell tell Trump the same thing? When will the entire Republican caucus tell Trump that he’s batsh-t insane and that he needs to resign in disgrace?

    Mess.

Just 100% Mess and White Supremacy.

I am glad he is not even attempting to hide it now.

    The GOP is fuktd.

    • goofpuff says:

McCarthy and McConnell putting out stories to make them look better. Neither of them doing what really needs to be done which is to state the election fraud claims were false, the election was fair and Biden is the president.

Unless they actually put out a real press statement, its all more lies to cover their asses.

  2. Darla says:

I read, I think in WAPO that McConnell is so furious with Trump he has vowed never to speak to him again. A little late!

    • ThEHufflepuffLizLemon says:

Yeah, that’s not much accountability. Oh boo hoo I’ll never speak to you again.
How bout I’m going to hold you accountable for your actions?
They all want the fascist base-they know they can’t win without them. it’s disgusting.

      • Kate says:

Right? If you’re so furious maybe up the stakes from things my 3-year old says when he’s mad to…i don’t know, whipping votes in the Senate to impeach Trump?

Also, what do Republicans think will happen if they stand up to Nazi terrorists? Who will the scummiest of their base support if not Republicans? It’s not like they’re all going to vote Dem in anger. I guess if they just stop voting all together, maybe Dems would take the lead in elections?

    • Swack says:

Probably the only reason he is saying that is because his wife, Chao, has resigned her cabinet position so Trump can’t take his anger out on McConnell by firing her.

    • whateveryousay says:

Yeah McConnell loathes Trump now. They are not speaking.

      • HoofRat says:

I’m sure that Moscow Mitch has always loathed Trump, but he made nice as long as Trump was useful to him and the GOP agenda.

      • Mac says:

McConnell isn’t pi$$ed about the terrorist attack on the Capitol, he is pi$$ed that Trump did serious damage in the GA run off.

    • tcbc says:

Sure. It’s not because now that Trump lost the election and the Georgia runoffs are over, Trump is no longer useful to McConnell. It’s because McConnell has ethical boundaries (HA!) that have been crossed.

All the people who were happy to ride with Trump as long as it got them tax cuts and judges can’t get off so easy. They are as responsible as he is, because they gave and still give him “respectable” cover for his destruction. (Which the tax cuts and the judges played a huge part in, as well.)

    • AnnaKist says:

An ABCTV Australia journalist interviewed McConnell on Monday. He was not holding back, saying trump has a lot to answer for, and that last week’s horror proves that trump has finally lost the plot (my words, not his), and that he needs to resign. My first thought was, *and you’re just working this out now? You are complicit, because at the very least, you stood by and did nothing while the lunatic got all his little toys lined up to cause as much havoc as possible.*
And I can’t imagine that anyone here is surprised by Giuliani’s loyalty. They have dirt on each other.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Well, Dump is the reason he is no longer Majority Leader of the Senate!!

    • Veronica S. says:

Which he 100% brought on himself. They had their chance to get rid of him, and I remember thinking how incredibly stupid they were not to because chances were he was going to f*ck up something badly enough to sink the party. And then, well, COVID hit. I had the briefest moment of thinking that would really be the end, that they would ace the handling of that crisis and slide into a second victory, and LOL, that was a meaningless fear. This idiot couldn’t direct a paper bag to fold. Of course he screwed that up. Of course he did. It’s just too bad all of us had to pay for it.

  3. LaUnicaAngelina says:

I hate this m-fcker. He is so weak and thin-skinned. More GOP-ers need to to tell him to just “stop and it’s over.”

  4. LightPurple says:

Not believing McCarthy’s version of events. Yes, I believe Trump told him it was ANTIFA but I’m not believing McCarthy pushed back for a second. He never has. He never will. McCarthy needs to resign from his leadership position.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah, exactly. McCarthy is on twitter demanding that Joe Biden “lower the temperature.” I dont think he pushed back on Trump for a second – but its interesting, I guess, that he wants people to think he did. It’s like there is still a small part of some of these Rs who KNOW how bad this all is, but they dont have the spine to admit it or do anything about it.

    • FancyPants says:

As I was reading that, I was wondering who was the source for this story because it is obviously Kevin McCarthy!

    • Christin says:

And this call allegedly happened the same day more companies announced they were stopping political contributions to some super PACs. Money talks.

    • Mac says:

MCarthy and his ilk demonstrate the real dangers of gerrymandering. We need to win back state legislatures.

  5. ThEHufflepuffLizLemon says:

McCarthy has hitched his wagon to this disaster and is now trying to back away-it doesn’t work like that. We WILL remember everything he did, Rick Scott, Matt Gaetz, Ted Cruz, Lindsay Graham…I can’t say that pre-Trump, I could name any governors or Senators other than my own and maybe the ones from states where I have a lot of family. I thought I was reasonably aware, but this has brought my privilege to the forefront, and I think a lot of white liberals, like me, are having that reckoning that even those of us who thought we were acting as allies have a lot of work to do to prevent the rise of a more competent fascist regime.

If you’re on the side of literal Nazis, you’re automatically on the wrong side. This is finally the reason my Trumper brother in law decided he no longer speaks to me-because I called Nazis Nazis. I’ve decided it’s no great loss.

  6. Rapunzel says:

McCarthy is still a POS and gets no cookies, as he’s objecting to impeachment. He claims Trump accepted “some responsibility.” Yeah, right. And pigs fly.

Trump is gonna speak in Texas today. Guaranteed he screws himself over, and Wednesday, he gets impeached. He’ll probably say so many wrong things, that the Senate will turn too. Imo, letting him go speak was a tactical mistake, as he’s clearly going to demonstrate he has no remorse and has not changed.

  7. Kimber says:

Probably the reason he called state of emergency for the inauguration is because Ivanka will be there (if that story is true).
Otherwise he wouldn’t care what happens.

    • Lightpurple says:

It was a formal request from the Mayor. Because DC isn’t a state, there’s no governor to declare emergencies. The mayor has to request and the president has to approve

  8. Sunnydaze says:

I’m holding on to hope trump will have to face actual consequences but I’m also wondering why there isn’t more of a public outcry to disbar Giuliani? Or powell? Or anyone who has ever set foot in a courtroom who has hitched their trailer to this dumpster fire of tyranny? I’ve only seen a handful of reports but truthfully it’s one of the most tangible consequences for the people who enabled this.

  9. StormsMama says:

    So…”antifa” this mysterious gang
    Dressed as Trumpers? Lol ok.
But “I love you” and “you’re very special” was to who now?
The 51 people from VT who went? Definitely Trumpers not Antifa.
Even entertaining the antifa conversation enrages me.
    OWN YOUR INSURRECTION!!!
Also lol that people thought Trump loved them and now he’s acting like “I dont know her”

  10. Teebee says:

The GOP are Trump, Trump is the GOP.

I saw footage of inside the Capital when someone was trying to get sheltering Congress people to wear masks and the Republicans refused. With smiles and smirks.

In my opinion Trump has revealed the true nature of the GOP. It is a party for anyone whose nature is selfish, self-righteous, disagreeable, spiteful, petty, attention-seeking, greedy, self-serving. Never again will I respect or commiserate with anyone who chooses to be a Republican in name or political affiliation.

I don’t even reside in the US, but this (*waves hands spastically) has changed me forever. I myself, for better or worse, have been politicized and galvanized. Yes, the world has become more divided and polarized and partisan than ever. I have irreversibly and for all eternity chosen a side. And it will never be on the right of the political spectrum.

    • B n A fn says:

I’m I the only one who believes the reason 45 called for a state of emergency is because daughter #1 will be attending the inauguration? I believe he’s telling his goons that princess will be there so don’t blow up the Capitol.
@stormsmama: I’m agreeing with you, now #45 loves Antifa? I’m thinking he’s ashamed of him self because those red hats are him and he is them, the scum of the earth.

  11. Miranda says:

As always, Nazis are undone by their own obsession with documentation. We have countless photos and videos of so, so many of these terrorists in the Capitol, stealing, smashing, and assaulting mostly inept law enforcement, because they just HAD to brag about it. They trace this shit back to people who have been spouting pro-Trump and/or generally racist bullshit for years. Like, years before “Antifa” (which is still kind of a nebulous concept more than hard movement with specific ideas and goals, isn’t it?) even existed. I think even a trained spy would have a hard time pretending to be pro-Trump for that long.

  12. Rapunzel says:

And Trump just told the press as he boarded the plane to Texas that the Dems are continuing “the greatest witch hunt in history” against him and causing “tremendous anger” by trying to impeach him. He defended himself and his speeches, and took no responsibility. Lied and said he wants “no violence”

GOP: this guy has learned nothing, will not change, and is ruining you. Kick him out.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Yes, he alluded to impeachment signaling dire consequences. “Tremendous danger.”

I’ve been scanning gab, and his supporters certainly aren’t backing down.

  13. olliesmom says:

No not 1/6 “Antifa” just 100% moron.

They can never tell you exactly who “Antifa” is. Or who their leader is. They would have a leader, right?

    • lisanne says:

Antifa probably doesn’t have a leader; it’s decentralized and not really an organization. It’s main goal, I believe, is to inhibit ultra right/fascist organizing. Antifa = Anti-fascist.

  14. Juxtapoze says:

“ The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
“ And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth.”
“ The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. . . . Power is not a means; it is an end . . . not power over things, but over men. . . . In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement. . . . There will be no loyalty, except loyalty toward the Party. There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother. . . . Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever.”

In other words, we see through your Antifa BS MAGA cultists!
