Mary-Kate Olsen & Olivier Sarkozy have worked out their divorce settlement

39th Annual Hampton Classic Horseshow Grand Prix

Back in May of last year, Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy were the first big-name couple to have a messy pandemic split. It seemed like MK and Sarko were already having issues pre-pandemic, and the pandemic just heightened everything to a crazy degree, especially regarding money and property. Even though they are both wealthy, they were renting in Manhattan, and Sarko basically let the lease lapse without telling MK. That was the reason their divorce became public knowledge – MK and her lawyers had to make some moves and there was a flurry of reporting about their marriage. MK was probably horrified by that most of all, that the peasants knew about her personal drama. By last summer, MK and Sarko had managed to find a way to keep themselves out of the tabloids. MK ran off to the Hamptons and Sarko went God knows where. They quietly worked on their divorce, and on Wednesday, they reached a deal in their divorce settlement:

Mary-Kate Olsen and estranged husband Olivier Sarkozy have reached a settlement in their divorce, their lawyers said Wednesday.

“As of this morning, we reached a final agreement,” Sarkozy’s lawyer Michael Mosberg told a judge during a Manhattan Supreme Court video hearing. Mosberg said the parties would have a finalized and signed copy of the agreement to the judge by next week.

Justice Lori Sattler asked Olsen’s lawyer, Nancy Chemtob, if she agreed. “Yes, your honor, that is correct, everything is resolved,” Chemtob said. “We’ve been working very hard. We do have a settlement.”

Sattler pushed the lawyers to finalize the settlement. “Until I actually see the proof, I’m going to hold your feet to the fire a little bit,” the jurist said. “I do trust and believe that this is happening, however, I’m going to keep control of the case to make sure this gets done and get them divorced.”

As soon as MK filed for divorce last year, it was widely reported that she has an “ironclad prenup,” a necessity to protect her businesses and her substantial assets. So my guess is that whatever divorce settlement they worked out, it wasn’t that much money or anything. Maybe she threw $10 million at him to get him to sign a nondisclosure agreement, something like that. Plus, it didn’t even sound like they owned much, if any, property in New York, so it’s not like they had to negotiate real estate issues or anything – as I said, they had been living in a leased apartment in a posh area. Which is so bizarre – MK has enough money to buy some prime New York real estate. Maybe that’s what she’ll do now.

This was always the weirdest marriage to me. They seemed so mismatched age and otherwise.

The leaving the lease to lapse is very French man. He had basically already checked out of the marriage and didn’t want any drama whilst he slipped away quietly, thereby blindsiding her and ensuring she was left to pick up the pieces.

EDIT; So apparently Olivier invited the ex wife AND mother to move into their home. That is super messy and disrespectful. Glad MK left,

It seems like MK was the one with the purse strings and he was possibly pressuring her to help him out housing his first family. EWWWW

I also read that Olivier moved his ex in without telling MK. That would set me off too.

French men…I’ve seen and heard really awful stories about how they quit relationships. They go stone cold.

MK herself seems stone cold and I have often wondered if she chose someone who idled at the same temperature, thinking this would be a good strategy.

      French men not dramatic???

It’s so funny, the lady at the atm is like why are you letting your 11 year old smoke?
    Weirdest couple!

I’ve always liked the Olsen twins but I’ve never had a “good” vibe about the marriage. It wasn’t just the age gap (although that was a part of it), they just seemed like an odd match.

    • Melissa says:

I think it’s because he looks like a pedophile and she looks like a 12 year-old.

    • Mignionette says:

I always got the sense he was in it for the money.

The way he let the rental lapse and then moved his mother and wife into their shared property was just disgusting.

I think he and his ex are back together and hatched a plan to use the Binghampton house as his pay-off post divorce. His reasoning being she has 5x his net worth, so wouldn’t miss a 20 Million dollar house.

She is so gaunt. Living on coffee and cigarettes?

    • Noki says:

Those cheekbones reminds of the 90s top models,i always wondered if it was natural to really have such sucked in cheeks or if it was a cosmetic procedure.

  5. TIFFANY says:

Or maybe they lived in a lease property because MK’s lawyers told her it would be best instead of fighting over assets when they finally do split.

  6. Julia K says:

She has the wrinkles of a smokers face. Aging poorly.

I know I’m out of the loop but didnt MK buy two adjacent NYC building around the time she got married and then knock out the party wall to make a mansions? You can’t do anything structural like that on a rental. I’m so confused about them saying she didn’t own property. Maybe *they* as a couple don’t own?

    • lucy2 says:

I just found something that says they sold them in 2019.
Maybe they then rented until they found another place they liked, or maybe the relationship was already struggling and they wisely didn’t buy anything else together.

    • steph says:

I vaguely remember the joint buildings but MK does own at least one place in the city. I just don’t think they had any shared real estate. Which, smart.

      • ce says:

Ah ok that all makes sense

      • Scarlet Vixen says:

I wonder if any property the twins ‘own’ is actually purchased companies they own to protect it from potential spouses, etc. There may even be tax breaks involved in properties being owned by a company? (I am not terribly knowledgeable on that kind of stuff, just thinking out loud–My husband works in the corporate aviation, and many people will have their companies ‘own’ their aircraft or will register it in a different country because of loopholes, etc.)

  8. Amelie says:

Sarko is the nickname that the French media uses for his more famous half-brother Nicolas Sarkozy who was often referred to as Sarko throughout his presidency. Just an FYI lol. He could go by Sarko Jr. though.

And this marriage never made much sense to me either. Olivier always seemed a touch shady, looks like he was? I hadn’t heard the stories of him moving his ex-wife into their shared property without telling MK.

I’m not keen on references to his looking like a ped*ophile. Whatever they look like. She’s 34. I read a touching article by a very petite young-looking woman of about the same age who was continually (mis) judged for doing ‘adult’ things like have a drink or a quick kiss on the lips in public. He sounds less than ideal but let’s leave the ped*phile stuff out of it.
