Prince Harry & Meghan will give their first post-Sussexit interview to Oprah

Royal baby

For more than a year, we’ve been talking about when, where and how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will tell their story. There were rumors in the spring and summer of 2020 that they were considering interview offers, possibly to coincide with the publication of Finding Freedom, but nothing came of it. But now things have changed. It’s been 13 months since their Sussexit announcement. They bought a home in Montecito. They’ve signed deals with Spotify and Netflix. They’re expecting another child. Meghan won her lawsuit against the Mail. And so with all of that #winning, Meghan and Harry have decided to grant their first post-Sussexit television interview to… Oprah Winfrey. For a primetime CBS special. YES.

Oprah Winfrey will interview the duke and duchess of Sussex for a CBS primetime special. The special, titled Oprah With Meghan and Harry, will feature Winfrey talking with the couple about everything from their marriage to their decision to step away from Britain’s royal family. It’s set to air March 7. The announcement of the special comes on the heels of the couple announcing that Meghan is pregnant with their second child. Their son, Archie, is 21 months old.

The 90-minute CBS special will feature Winfrey conducting a “wide-ranging” interview with the duchess about motherhood, life as a royal, her philanthropic work and living under the microscope that comes with being part of the royal family. Harry joins them later to discuss their move to the United States and hopes for their family.

In January 2020, Harry and Meghan announced they would “step back” from their positions as senior members of the royal family. While they still hold the titles of duke and duchess of Sussex, they no longer use the titles His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness and gave up public funding. Since then, the couple have signed an overall deal with Netflix to produce programming for the streamer and a podcast deal at Spotify.

Winfrey’s Harpo Productions is producing the CBS special. Terry Wood and Tara Montgomery executive produce; Brian Piotrowicz is co-EP.

[From The Hollywood Reporter]

Reader, I cackled. When the news came out yesterday, my eyes bugged out of my head and I was blown away by the fortuitous timing. I wonder if Meghan decided to do the interview knowing that the summary judgment would likely go her way? Is she that next-level? Perhaps, but I bet it was more about her pregnancy. Anyway, I’ve been dying to see Harry and Meghan give their first post-exit interview and I’m super-excited for this. You know there will be some shade! Meghan and her label-maker of justice will hopefully pull out all of the receipts. No, I jest. Only some of the receipts will come out and I fully expect Oprah to pursue some lines of inquiry which will make some royal a–holes pucker in disdain. Speaking of, royal commentator Robert Jobson was one of the first commentators to have a hissy fit about the interview. He said:

Royal author Robert Jobson said he thought the interview was a ‘betrayal of trust’ and Meghan and Harry ‘seem hell bent on causing the Queen more discomfort and possible embarrassment’.

‘Buckingham Palace were quick to say the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles and the rest of the family wished the couple well on the news. They were apparently told about the baby bump before Harry and Meghan went public,’ he said. ‘But now, just after smoothing over the cracks caused by ”Megxit’ – just over a year ago – the Sussexes seem hell bent on causing the Queen more discomfort and possible embarrassment. This interview is a betrayal of trust whatever way you look at it. Harry, who claimed he wanted to escape the publicity of being a front-line royal, has swapped duty for a cash bonanza deal with Netflix. We are not told if money has been paid for this interview.

‘The army veteran, who serviced with distinction in Afghanistan, often talks about respecting the Queen. But to be blunt his decision to join his wife’s tell all on US television interview after they exited the royal family so noisily and dramatically, is another act of disrespect. The Queen has always lived by the mantra of ”never complain and never explain”. With her husband’s 100th birthday celebrations approaching the Harry and Meghan loose cannon continues to fire.’

[From The Daily Mail]

LMAO!! Never complain, never explain… except for all of those times the Queen, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Prince Charles ALL complained and explained. And all of the prissiness about publicity! Again, Harry and Meghan never said that they never wanted to see a camera again. They said they wanted to step back from the 24-7 toxicity they were subjected to by the British media, which was working in concert with the Windsors. Meghan and Harry have every right to tell their story and the more hysterical people get about it, the interview will become an even bigger deal.

Also: I’m sooo happy Oprah is the one doing the interview. The only other person who would have done a good job (IMO) is Gayle King. I’m so glad they didn’t go to Ellen DeGeneres or Anderson Cooper (I like Coop, but not for this).

This doesn’t surprise given the friendship.

      Nobody:

      Nobody:

      Harry + Meghan: Breathe

      British Media: “😡😡🤬🤬👹🤬👿☠👹😤☠☠☠!!☠🤬😈😱😠😡😤!!!!!!!!

    • AlpineWitch says:

      Totally agree!

I do not even understand why some UK journalists are losing their minds over this….
If you have time, give a read to Marina Hyde’s article on the Guardian, she is spot on from start to finish.

  2. Sierra says:

I hope they come prepared because Oprah is very thorough with her interviews and will expect people to be completely honest and talk without barriers.

I personally don’t think Meghan & Harry will throw direct shades at the Royal House. They might talk about the racial and sexist abuse Meghan suffered from the media but not actually talk about the Royals.

    • Courtney B says:

I agree. It’s one thing to authorize friends to cooperate with a book. It’s another to air the laundry personally. I don’t see them going to Princess Diana/Bashir or Charles/ Dimbleby route. I think a lot will focus on their future projects and foundation. Royal dirt will only draw the focus.

      • Stacy Dresden says:

Okay “Dimbleby” is the most British-est surname OF ALL TIME!!!

      • Stacy Dresden says:

Harry and Meghan aren’t going to say anything embarrassing. The RF is scared silly though, which says everything.

    • Amy Bee says:

I agree. They’re not going to bash the Royal Family as the haters and media believe. They will talk about their experience over the last 5 years, why they decided to leave and their plans for the future. Harry and Meghan are moving forward while the British press and Royal Family are still living in the past.

      • Amy Too says:

The fact that the media and probably the RF are all wringing their hands and exclaiming out loud in public that anything Harry and Meghan say about them would be embarrassing and make them look bad, be a betrayal of “trust” by which they mean the code of silence surrounding abuse, and will make the Queen and other royals very uncomfortable just proves that they (the RF) behaved badly and they know it. Stop telling on yourselves! They did the same thing with finding freedom, they gnashed their teeth, pulled out their hair, complained and explained over and over again about all the things they thought might possibly be in the book and in doing so, THEY ended up leaking a bunch of negative stories about themselves that weren’t even in the book.

    • L84Tea says:

I think Oprah will know exactly what to ask them and the way to ask them. I’m looking forward to her questions calling out the RF, the media, the public–even though I know we probably won’t get the juicy answers we want because H&M have too much class to do that–but the questions alone will be enough to make the RF and BM squirm.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Oprah IS thorough, but you can be sure the questions will be looked over in advance, agreed upon, and there won’t be ANY blindsiding curve balls. Also, it’s not a “live” interview, so things can be edited.

Either way, some things WILL come out, in broad brush strokes, like the book, enough that anyone with a clue (or who has “bought a vowel”) will be able to figure it out 😄

BRING IT ON! Can’t wait! If nothing else, the sheer joy these two radiate, in comparison to the rest of the family, will be BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS to *everyone* who sees them.

    • My Two Cents says:

Gayle King just said that there is nothing off limits! and that Oprah is busy writing all her questions down! Love it! I can’t wait. Meghan is so eloquent and so kind, and yet so smart and savvy, there is no way she will say anything to jeopardize or embarrass anyone.

    • M.A.F. says:

But Oprah isn’t though. She may have been early on with her talk show but in the later years of her show, she made every interview about her. I highly doubht there will be any hard-ball questions and discussion going on.

      • Nic919 says:

The Lance Armstrong interview happened in the later years. Oprah is no fool and knows this interview is a huge get. She’s not going to do a puff piece for 60 Minutes. She may not be antagonistic with Meghan, but she is going to try to get some answers.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I don’t think Harry and Meghan will ever criticize a royal family member personally (although, they are barely better than Meghan’s own toxic family, so I am a little tired of how people bend over backwards to “protect” the royals). But, I’d like to see Oprah ask whether they believe monarchies — and ANY institution based on the notion that certain bloodlines are inherently superior — have no place in the modern world. It would not be family “dirty laundry,” but just a recognition that there is no reason to keep outdated, sexist, racist institutions in the 21st century. And also whether Andrew should still be an “HRH” and receiving public funds.

I put the adds at 1:1,000,000 that Oprah would ever ask them about that, but I can hope.

  3. Muffintop says:

Ooooohhhh, I can sense millions of racist British sphincters puckering in fear right now.

    • GrnieWnie says:

      Haha, this made me laugh.

    • MsDiMeanOur says:

the DF comments made me depressed
you would think that harry is an object that is owned by that Island called the UK

      • Ginger says:

That’s exactly how the UK sees Harry. They feel like they own him and hate Meghan for “taking him away”. He is just an object to them, not a real person.

      • anotherlily says:

I can recommend today’s Guardian opinion column by Marina Hyde:

‘Whatever you think of Harry and Meghan, their media critics are far worse.
Self-appointed ‘defenders of the royal family’s honour’ may want to have a good, hard look at themselves’.

      • Iriser says:

@anotherlily Thank you for that read! Many favorite passages, but one of the best:

“News that Meghan and her husband Prince Harry are expecting another baby is followed by news they will appear on Oprah. Both of these pieces of news follow last week’s news that the duchess had won her privacy case against the Mail on Sunday, which had published her private letter to her father. As you can imagine, this triple-threat of tidings has caused the bed of some commentators to be completely shat.”

One of the best things I’ve read all week!

  4. Lizzie says:

I love how he assumes it will be a betrayal. Guilt conscience worried they will spill the tea. They are too classy to do any such thing.

    • Brit says:

It’s only a betrayal to them because an American network is getting the exclusive. If they decided to talk to a British network or publication, it wouldn’t be a problem. These people are so predictable and bitter. They screwed up their own bags with their behavior and law breaking but they wanna get mad at the abused because they won’t tolerate you and your shenanigans anymore. They and that family caused all of this. You can tell their egos are bruised and they’re worst fears are coming true and they can’t and won’t stop it.

    • Jay says:

Exactly! He’s basically admitting that whatever they say, it will make the royals look bad. He’s mad that they won’t stay quiet about the terrible treatment they have experienced!

Next he’s gonna call Oprah a “clout chaser”, trying to improve her own brand by associating with the Queen 😂.

      • Petra says:

Lol on the “clout chaser”, but you’re correct. Let them try to come for Oprah even my 80 years old mama will go to war for Oprah.

      • windyriver says:

Not long ago I watched the interview Oprah did (virtually) with former President Barack Obama. I don’t think she’ll be looking for any “clout” via the Queen.

Meanwhile, still chuckling about Jobson’s comment that Harry “serviced with distinction in Afghanistan”.

      • MF1 says:

HA! The idea of Oprah as a clout chaser is hilarious. The queen *wishes* she could associate her brand with Oprah!

      • fluffy_bunny says:

Does the BM have any clue who Oprah is? She doesn’t need clout. And she certainly doesn’t need the Queen.

  5. Brit says:

The BM are mad, lol. It used to be really disturbing seeing the vitriol but now the unhinged and deluded behavior of these experts and commentators is getting traction and it’s backfiring on the immensely. The media is upset they lost access, are stuck with boring and bland royals, won’t make any money off the new Sussex baby and their new life. The ranting and double standards are not working anymore, like at all. I’m really interested in what the family will do because the media is clearly pressuring them to punish them for leaving and thriving and the promises that were clearly made to the press in regards to access is over. I really wonder how the media and RF will be going forward. This is going to get very ugly.

    • Becks1 says:

The BM are SO mad and honestly I dont think they realize how it makes them look on the world stage. Emily Andrews had some awful tweets over the past few days and I really have to wonder – are they just playing to their core racist audience, and if so, why are you risking your reputation like that? People on an international scale are seeing some of these comments and the BM looks AWFUL on a world stage. Piers Morgan blocked someone who disagreed with him about Meghan and apparently that person has been a frequent guest on Good Morning Britain and said they would not be returning again. Like, what is the british press doing??

Even Peter Hunt and Omid Scobie were making fun of them yesterday.

      • Nic919 says:

I was pretty surprised at how bitter Emily was in her recent tweets. Outside of the baby shower happening before it actually did, I never took her to be one of the RRs who had such hatred from them. I wonder if this is because she now works for Mail on Sunday and they lost the case.

    • GrnieWnie says:

they’re mad because there’s the possibility of them being held to account for their behavior. Ultimately, how DARE someone not at the top of the social hierarchy attempt to hold those at the top (or enabled by the top) responsible? That’s stepping out of place. Know your place=the quintessential British attitude.

      • SarahCS says:

Exactly, maybe the Queen couldn’t be made to ‘look bad’ if, you know; she hadn’t done things which would look bad if they saw the light of day. There’s the admission in plain sight.

      • Ginger says:

Going after the BM is the same as going after the RF. They worked together to smear Meghan and to get her to leave.

      • Chris. says:

The British Media don’t like to be viewed as racist by the rest of the world, particularly, America. The interview will be about the racist press, I know that for sure, and that’s why they are so depressed.

    • windyriver says:

In the last weeks, Harry won a defamation suit, Meghan won her privacy and copyright suit, and Meghan addressed the furor over the change in Archie’s birth certificate by referring to “the carnival of so-called [media]” experts. When they first published their plan for part-time royal work, a major component was dropping reliance on the Sovereign Grant, so they were no longer subject to the Royal Rota.

There’s plenty for Harry and Meghan to discuss with Oprah about their treatment by the BM, and the part that played in Sussexit, without going into what they know about involvement and instigation of the media barrage by various RF members/palaces. I don’t see Harry especially wanting to publicly embarrass TQ and RF, though he might not be above letting it subtly (or not so subtly) be known he knows where the bodies are buried. This interview won’t be any kind of tell-all, certainly not yet; most likely a lot of it will be about their life in CA, Netflix/Spotify projects, and Archewell.

The BM are going to be even more hopping mad in the coming weeks leading up to the Oprah interview. At this point though, there’s little else to direct at Harry & Meghan they haven’t already tried and said (and been successfully sued over). Even if the BM pressure the RF to pull their patronages, permanently end Harry’s military appointments, or strip their titles (they won’t), Harry and Meghan are prepared, and most important, now self-sufficient. It’s the RF who are now the vulnerable ones, and they have lots of secrets.

      • Well said, Windy River. And let’s not forget the class action suit Harry joined about the continued wire taping. If that suit is successful, Piers Morgan may actually see some jail time this time around. Everything the Sussexes do is grounded in reality and classy. I don’t expect this interview to be any different. I’ve been watching Oprah’s recent one on one interviews via Apple TV with Obama, Dolly Parton, etc., and she has a wonderful ability to create an informed conversation. The Sussexes aren’t on trial and this interview will not be a deposition, no matter what the “carnival of so called royal experts” want, expect, need, or predict.

The type of interview the “experts are baying about has already been done by SENIOR members of the royal family in England, by British reporters, and aired on British TV: This will not be Prince Andrew, Prince Charles or even Princess Diana crapping all over each other, The Firm, or their children to score points.

  6. Belli says:

I can’t see them dropping major shade Diana-style, but in the run up I wonder how many incriminating stories will leak from the palace as they run around in terror trying to get ahead of whatever Meghan and Harry COULD reveal.

    • JT says:

This is a good point. When FF came out the royals started telling on themselves to get ahead of damaging stories. The truth around tightsgate came out as well as tiaragate. The RF were in full panic mode, only for FF to be completely mild on them. I hope they start telling on themselves again.

    • Amy Bee says:

This is what I’m waiting for. The Royal Family in their efforts to discredit Harry and Meghan in the run up to the interview will incriminate themselves just like they did when Finding Freedom was coming. It’s going to be delicious to watch!

    • ArtHistorian says:

I def thing that the courtiers will tell on themselves trying to do damage control of what they think M+H will talk about. I very much doubt that H+M will spill any tea – but there are some def some people with a guilty conscience within the royal institution. They told on themselves by indirectly spilling some tea that made the royals and the courtiers look bad -in the time before FF was published. And then the book was rather tame and it turned out that the courtiers completely clowned themselves. The institution and the media KNOW that the royals will look very bad if the truth is ever spilled. They are very afraid that Harry will pull a Diana, so afraid that they loose their heads collectively and tell on themselves because they don’t seem to realize that H?M will never spill all the tea. They are too classy for that and I don’t think that they are interested in dredging up the past but rather that they want to look forward. However, a guilty conscience will sometimes tell on itself.

  7. Jane says:

I really hope it’s available to view in the UK!

  8. Muffintop says:

Piers Morgan is going to Piers Morgan all over this.

(Can we be done with him, please? Can someone Piers Morgan Piers Morgan until he goes away??!!)

    • Brit says:

Piers has been losing his marbles for the last four years now and it’s now more well known that his obsession with Meghan and now Harry is officially on record. He was being called out left and right on Twitter. Not getting the responses he though he would. He’s determined to punish them and nothing is working and the Sussexes aren’t acknowledging him. That burns him to the core.

    • YOU WANT A PIECE OF PIERS?

Checkout bylineinvestigations.com re class action hacking suit that Harry joined that is coming for Piers Morgan and he knows it. The latest headline is: EXCLUSIVE: Piers Morgan’s Disputed Evidence to Leveson Inquiry to Face Full Courtroom Test – Judge Rules

Piers is sweating bullets and I’m there for this trial. I think it is scheduled for October of this year.

      • anotherlily says:

That byline report gives January this year as the expected trial date. It hasn’t happened yet but that’s not unusual. There will have been frantic efforts to prevent a trial which could cause delays. BUT Piers Morgan is taking a week’s break from GMB – confirmed in the Express. Perhaps this is the trial.

    • Nic919 says:

How does he still have a career after the phone hacking? No one should be listening to him at all. His actions were criminal and the Leveson Inquiry failed at restraining the most egregious people in that scandal.

  9. Louise177 says:

I think people are going to be really disappointed. I don’t see them trashing the Royal Family or doing anything scandalous. I think it’s going to be along the interview they did during the South African tour, some quotes but no real gossip. Amusing how this is considered an attack on the Queen when Royals have done personal interviews before. Amusing that it’s when Harry and Meghan do something it’s wrong.

    • Becks1 says:

I dont think they will trash the royal family, but I do think there will be some shade – quotes like you said, but no real gossip. I do think they will drag the British press though.

    • Myra says:

I think Meghan will be frank and honest about how she feels or felt during that period but she would not directly name names or fingerpoint to anyone. Neither will Harry but if we were to receive further insight into what went wrong, it will likely come from him. He has always been direct and straightforward.

    • Angel says:

Same, I don’t see Meghan trashing the royal family or even the press, she seems really nice, Harry on the other hand…….

    • M.A.F. says:

If anything it will focus on how the British press has treated Meghan as well as her “family”.

  10. Becks1 says:

I’m also cackling at all the meltdowns from the RRs. Again we’re back to the question we had about Finding Freedom and the idea that it was “Harry and Meghan’s side of the story” – if the royal family behaved so impeccably, if the reporters were the epitome of professionalism, if Meghan was welcomed more openly than any other royal wife in the history of royal wives – then what on earth is wrong with them sharing their side of the story? You dont mean to tell me – gasp – that the royal family behaved…..improperly?!?!?! Its inconceivable!!!!

Basically all that to say if the royal family is so scared about the royal tea being spilt, maybe they should have prepared the tea a little differently, you know?

Also of course this is going to Oprah. To me that says so much about Harry and Meghan’s standing in the world – Oprah is OPRAH, she doesnt do interviews with just anyone anymore, especially not 90 minute prime time interviews. This is because Oprah recognizes their global stardom and influence.

Finally I think the timing is about both the pregnancy and the launching of Archewell.

    • Brit says:

The RR’s act like Meghan and Harry really care what they think and are furious they didn’t get any exclusives. They don’t like the fact that they won’t get called for their opinions and the bigger and broader American media will make the money. I would take them more seriously if they just admitted that they need them back because the money and interest in the others are non existent and the Sussexes are fresh and exciting.

    • Exactly, Becks1. Well said.

  11. Shoo fly says:

American media that isn’t the National enquirer doesn’t pay for interviews, Robert, so we don’t need to clarify that point. Cry your little heart out.

  12. suzysunshine says:

I just hope it’s a substantive interview. They are veering into celebrity status and fluff if they don’t discuss with honesty and candor why they needed to make the move they did and how they want to live their lives. Then they need to go away and do just that.

    • Myra says:

Royalty is all fluff, so it’s not a new territory for them. We rarely get candid interviews with royals. The last one with Andrew was so messy.

I feel like if Meghan only wants to talk about Archewell and nothing else, then that’s up to her. She has likely drawn her lines somewhere before they agreed to do the interview. Also, I’m likely interpreting your “then they need to go away” the wrong way because I have only seen it used negatively in relation to them, but I feel like if they want to do 10 more interviews after this one, then they should. Their work is a public-facing one, after all.

    • RoyalBlue says:

They have become iconic personalities. And guess what, the BM by their vile actions are making them bigger icons just like they did with Diana. they never learn.

your comment is a little nasty. you would turn up your nose at them because the interview is not substantive enough to your liking, why even bother to watch, just change the channel. no need to sneer.

    • Over it says:

They can say what they want, we all know why they left. Abuse is not something anyone should put up with, not even royal abuse, you won’t ask your son or daughter to stay in an abusive relationship and if they do leave crawl into a hole because they should be ashamed that they were the victims of said abuse, so why should Harry and Meghan?

    • Yoyo says:

What wrong with celebrity status? They left the Royal family, because of the backstabbing and the abuse they were getting from the RF and BM, now it their choice to say as much or little as they want.

      • JT says:

Besides the royals want their celebrity status. Royals ARE celebrites. That’s why they want H&M to go away so they can get the spotlight again. Lol. They are all mad across the pond because the Sussexes have all of the attention and have maintained it even through a pandemic. Besides it’s not like Harry and Meghan have been giving dozens of interviews this is the first one.

    • Becks1 says:

The royal family is nothing but a bunch of taxpayer supported celebrities, and I cant remember the last time William said anything of substance. So lets not act like Meghan has to act a certain way in an interview.

    • VS says:

really? the rf is what exactly if not the Kardarshian/Jenner on a tax payroll?

Only Prince Charles, H & now M have done work with tangible results; others have done the bread & butter which matters to some of course…..but that’s work? they could do 500 – 1k of those type of engagements a year. Unless wearing tiaras is also work LOL

    • GuestWho says:

How much further away can they go? They are “doing just that.” If you’re one of those hoping they will just disappear into obscurity, you are bound to be disappointed. They have goals and plans, and if those goals and plans include being in the public eye, that is what they will do. Why is that a problem?

    • whateveryousay says:

They don’t need to go away. They are using their ability to get eyeballs on them to speak on issues important to them.

    • Amy Bee says:

Spoken like a true royalist. LOL!

    • Lanie says:

They don’t need to “go away.”

Plenty of royals have done nothing but celebrity fluff they pretend is “duty.”

    • Mtec says:

      @suzysunshine
if you have such disdain for celebrities, then why are you on a celebrity gossip site?

    • Emile says:

“…veering into celebrity status” LOL! As if the Royal family aren’t the ultimate celebrities. At least (most) celebrities do substantive work, make their own money, donate their own money to charity, and don’t feed off the taxpayer. Sit down girl.

  13. Eleonor says:

THE PROTOCOL!!!!! MONARCHY IN DANGER!!! TREASON!!!!!
Sorry. I wanted to do the impersonation of a courtrier freaking out.

  14. Devs says:

The royal family all benefit from and profit in every way from a past and present that can only be (and that’s putting it mildly) described as violent and destructive.
They are a plague, they are parasites.
Harry was smart to get out now while the tides are changing because once that demonic Elizabeth dies, it’s over for the rest of them. No one wants that racist insincere baldy for a king or his empty headed wife.
The monarchy need to go, it’s repulsive that they still exist and tbh my main reason for being glad Meghan and Harry left is because if they had stayed they would have been too popular and been a real detriment to the growing republican movement.
At least now they work for a living.
I say all this to say, I think it’s fitting, truly fitting and wonderful that a mixed race woman is helping to end that appalling family. Although it is horrifying, their treatment of her is honestly the least of their crimes. It’s nothing on the scale of the atrocities the British empire did to the world. I hope Meghan and her husband do a million damaging interviews, the British press and the royal family will end up destroying themselves just to get back at her and I for one can’t wait.

On a less serious note, congratulations to them on the baby, I hope Meghan has a safe, calm pregnancy and delivery.

    • Bubble says:

Word! Everything you said. Their wealth is stolen and bloodied. What the British Empire has done in many of their colonies is on par with what the Belgian King did in Congo. Evil, sick, deranged, criminal abuse of unimaginable dimensions. They need to return what they own only because of violent theft. To idolize the RF is unfathomable to me. I prefer to not idolize mass murderers.

      • Dee Kay says:

@Devs and @Bubble: Very very well put. One of the hallmarks of violent imperialism is rabid racism, so indeed it is very fitting that a biracial Black woman ascending to the top tier of social clout in the UK is the very thing that will help tear the Empire down. It is logical in a way.

  15. S808 says:

I can’t see them being too shady especially Meghan. I think they should be be concerned about what prince Harry has to say if anything. I could see most of the interview being about their non profit but boy am I excited to see what the BRF says to try and get ahead of this just like with FF.

    • Eleonor says:

I think they don’t need to be shady, or throw the RF under the bus: they only need to tell the truth, the Firm made its own bed and everytime people show them how cruel, and racist they are they freak out and don’t do anything.

      • Emile says:

Agree. H&M only need to tell the truth. And if the truth ends up being shady that the RF’s problem, not theirs.

  16. BertieBott says:

Hahahahaha I love “royal a**holes pucker in disdain”. Pucker away crapholes.

  17. Kate says:

I’m pro H&M, however the issue they will have to defend is how is it ok for them to do an interview like this with Oprah, when they have been so vocal about wanting privacy? That’s the contradiction they will have to appease the media on.

    • Becks1 says:

They have not been “so vocal” about wanting privacy. I’m not sure how that idea has gained so much traction. They dont have to “appease” the media on anything because at this point there IS no appeasing the british media. and the US media loves them.

But even if they were talking about privacy nonstop – privacy doesnt mean you never show your head outside your house. It means you control how and when you share pieces of your life.

      • SURE says:

“I’m not sure how that idea has gained so much traction”. The RR and blowhard commentators falsely chant the “but I thought they wanted privacy” mantra ad nauseam which is how it has gained traction.

    • Sam says:

Katie it was never about privacy. That is the media narrative.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

But it IS about privacy. For their personal NON-WORKING HOURS. The BM wanted to crawl into their very souls and take what *they* wanted WHEN *they* wanted, and if they couldn’t, they threw all the shit on the wall they could to see what would stick.

H&M were always willing to talk about the WORK, the CAUSES they supported, but when they wouldn’t give the RRs “more”, when they drew a boundary, RRs retaliated by racial schmeers, going after them.

    • GuestWho says:

They will never appease the media. The trash UK media mob is trashing them (her) before word one has come out of the interview. There is literally nothing H&M can do to please these people – other than completely failing at living outside the RF bubble – so why bother? Choosing where and when to share information about one’s self is the definition of privacy. No contradiction here.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

      This ain’t it, sis.

    • Yoyo says:

They are entitled to the privacy of living in their home and not having people peeping in the doors, windows and having drones fly over their residence.
Stop with this, they want privacy nonsense.

    • Elizabeth says:

They don’t have to “appease the media.” We all know the British media is never going to treat them any better, no matter what they do or don’t do. Meghan is a free Black woman, so therefore they will never like her. It’s not about anything she’s done, it’s who she is.

They get to live their own lives how they choose.

It wasn’t privacy they wanted but basic decency and not being hounded to death like Diana.

    • Sofia says:

Can some of you please learn what privacy is?

You can court and want publicity for some aspects of your life/work but it doesn’t mean you have to be okay with private correspondences to your family members who are private citizens released, drones flying above your house or releasing pictures of your untitled non-royal son.

    • VS says:

So you are one of those who don’t know the meaning of PRIVACY?

You know what PRIVACY you enjoy: the ability to share WHAT you WANT at your convenience.

H&M told us they are expecting; yet you don’t know when they will have the baby, what’s the gender, when they conceive, etc? technically, you only they will have a baby

Just like H&M have a public life; you DON”T need to know what she writes to her father; who her friends are, etc…. just like with the Obamas, it is none of your business!

    • Lauren says:

It never was about privacy. The issue has always been about control. Harry and Meghan are public figures yes, but that does not mean that the public is entitled to know every single detail of their personal lives. Specially how it has been horribly portrayed by the media and how they got that information in the first place.

    • Angel says:

They complained about the the lies, slander and defamation not lack of privacy.

    • lanne says:

The “why are they talking/living/working if they want privacy” argument is just a step away from a rape apologist comment. To say you want privacy and for that to be interpreted as never appearing in public again is ridiculous. By that logic, if you express your sexuality once in any way, then that means people should have access to that sexuality at any time they wish. Therefore, if you are assaulted, then it’s your own fault because you expressed yourself sexually once. In both cases, the operative word is agency—what too many people refuse to give women and BIPOCs.

    • harla says:

Can you point me to one quote of either Meghan’s or Harry’s where they say they want privacy? In both exit statements privacy was never mentioned. The press however, has stated that they want privacy as a way to deflect from the real reason for their leaving, racist and misonynistic abuse by the press.

    • MellyMel says:

I keep reading this argument and it’s like so many of you don’t (or pretend to not) understand CONSENT. It’s disturbing…

    • PrincessK says:

I really hope that the Sussexes confront this privacy nonsense. I am sick and tired of telling me that they did not ask for total privacy but an end to lies, bullying and manipulation of public opinion. The media now have fewer sticks to beat them with now, they can’t use the taxes one because the Sussexes pay for themselves, so they resort to ‘privacy’ and ‘royal titles and patronage’s.

    • HeatherC says:

When you have a maternity photoshoot and post it on Instagram without restricting the privacy setting to just your friends, are you granting the rest of the world to demand a live stream of your delivery? If you give an interview on the news or for a news special, does that mean the media has the right to the rest of your life?

If you have ever received any social net money (food stamps, cash assistance, rent assistance) does that mean the tax payers own you now?

That is the privacy they want and are entitled to, just like us.

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

Its not a contradiction. Google is your friend.

    • Jo73c says:

It’s not about privacy, it’s about consent.

    • Commonwealthy says:

      You are not pro-H&M

    • Jaded says:

They haven’t been vocal about privacy, they’ve been vocal about the racist attacks, threats and smears they received from the BM and the lack of support from the BRF. Big difference. The utter mendaciousness of their coverage of M&H was beyond belief and continues, even through a successful lawsuit and others pending. The BM need to be called out and called out HARD.

Furthermore, H&M are now in the process of creating content for Netflix and Spotify, growing their Archewell foundation, and spotlighting other charitable organizations they work with. All of that requires some PR and promotion in order to build the brand. You don’t just “go away” once you’ve created that far-reaching type of work and it’s clear you don’t “favour” H&M.

    • Kkat says:

I’m so tired of this false talking point.
Had you been paying attention to what they said, they never said they didn’t want publicity or a public life.

But if you’re on this site you know that already so you’re just trolling.

  18. VS says:

It had to be done by a black person (YES I SAID IT); only someone like Oprah or Gayle or Michelle O (I know she is not a interviewer or Journalist ) or Serena (once again it is not her job), etc could potentially understand the racism Meghan had to deal with, the double standards, the xenophobia, classicism, and any ism we can only imagine might have happened behind closed doors or she had to endure by “unnamed palace sources”

    • Pamuk says:

Exactly this, a professional successful black woman who knows exactly the pain and suffering shes gone through is the only choice and I am so glad its 👑O.

    • Dee says:

Richard Palmer (Brit rota) has tried to trash Oprah on this story by saying she got her start in tabloid journalism. What a hack.

      • Becks1 says:

Palmer needs to take all the seats. a white man coming for OPRAH is not a good look .

I think the british press is learning just how irrelevant they are on a global stage and they cant handle it.

    • MF1 says:

Yup, it needed to be a Black person. And Oprah is so revered and respected that it will be tough for the BM to go after her for doing this interview. She’s the perfect choice for this interview.

  19. Harper says:

Meghan is too classy to throw the Royals completely under the bus, but she is also a truth-teller and if Oprah asks the right questions, well… can’t blame a girl for an honest answer.

Anyway, it seems the interview might already be in the can. Nevertheless, I can see the Montecito Flower Company’s delivery truck backing into the Sussex’s driveway to drop off a massive floral delivery from Prince Incandescent congratulating her on her pregnancy. Then a Fed Ex package dropoff containing a few Crown Jewels with a note “Thought you might like these, Your friend, Will Windsor.” Maybe he’ll even deliver a corgi pup to try and convince Meghan to ask Oprah to go easy, at which Meghan delivers her classic line of “Too little, too late.”

  20. Yoyo says:

What can Buckingham Palace do? announce on March 1, that they are permanently taking away the honorary medals.
In one of Harry’s Zooms calls to the Ruby League, he said their number one priority is Archie, secondly their jobs, and then they will help where ever they can.
Honestly I do not trust Oprah, but if Oprah think Meghan is going to spill anything ground breaking, I will be shock.

  21. Petra says:

I knew Oprah was going to be the interviewer if Harry and Meghan ever did an interview. How on earth does Robert Jobson know what Harry and Meghan plan to say? A proper journalist would see the interview before critiquing it thus Robert Jobson ain’t one. I truly don’t think any damaging tea will be spill that’s not how Meghan and Harry operates. I personally want them to take the high road, that’s the best middle finger in my noble opinion.

  22. Over it says:

Before I read any of your amazing comments, let me say it. Thank the lord. Been hoping they would sit and tell auntie O all oras close to all as they can. Ha to Robert are you f——ing kidding me? If the royals are worried or afraid well they ass should be , after the shut they did to them they should be shitting their pants wondering what exactly they will say, if they were paid or not for the interview is their god damm business. They pay their taxes live in free America and have a right to talk or not talk to whoever the f they want. Keep going you assholes. I hope they name check all you racist bitches. Let the world watch as your slave owning asses sweat it out bitches.

    • Commonwealthy says:

Betting O has known about it all for the last couple of years, because of personal affinity to Meghan and her mom. Betting she’s had socially distanced lunches with them and has heard it all from both H&M Oprah has had their back for a while, she connected them to Tyler Perry (jet from canada, and his house), she’s probably gotten really mad on their behalf. She’s gonna help them tell a story that she sympathizes fully with. There won’t be dirty laundry, but those who know will know. Success is the best revenge, and she’s gonna help position them/Archewell for tons of it. I AM SO HERE FOR IT.

  23. aquarius64 says:

Of course the BM is having a hissy fit; it’s afraid its dirty practices will be broadcasted on US primetime television. The Windsors already put out a statement the Sussexes are not required to inform BP of interviews because they are not working royals; dollar bet they are sweating bullets. The Other Daughter Samantha is hacked because no respectable US host or journalist would give her 90 seconds let alone 90 minutes of primetime air. Legitimate US media will not pay Scammy and she would be subject to vetting and fact checking on air … things the tabloids didn’t do.

  24. GuestWho says:

So the run up to this is going to be like the run up to FF, right? The RF and BM will tell on themselves to try to get ahead of anything negative M&H say, and M&H will say nothing negative. These people are spectacularly bad at this, and I’m here for it.

    • Brit says:

Like, they’re only making people root for them more. The Family don’t realize that these various commentators and experts are only making them look bad. They still don’t realize that people haven’t forgotten about Andrew and William and Kate are grossly overrated. Nothing is working anymore and it shows in the chaotic Responses to everything Harry and Meghan.

      • Ginger says:

Exactly. This smear campaign didn’t work like they thought it would. They have a lot of supporters and people are seeing how horrible Meghan was treated and why she left.

    • Becks1 says:

Yes, its going to be exactly like that, or worse, and I’m here for it. The PR spin in advance of Finding Freedom was much more telling than the book.

Like I said above – the complete panic around the idea of Harry and Meghan being honest is enlightening.

      • JT says:

The panic is also not a good look, because people are asking why are they mad? What is there to be upset about? If the RF were flawless in their behavior towards Meghan, then they should be fine. And I don’t want to hear anymore about H&M and Oprah after that car crash of an interview with Emily and Andrew. That was the real national embarrassment but I guess raping trafficked women is cool over there.

    • SarahCS says:

      I can’t wait.

  25. ABritGuest says:

I hope they keep it cute. As much as I wanna know what really went down & as much as they probably should ensure their side is across one day because there will be lots of revisionism- i think it would be better to either ‘go high’ or spill the tea in a few years time in own book preferably when the queen is no longer with us. It would just be seen as hurting the reign of the nation’s grandma doing it now.

And also gotta be careful being emotional cos as a WOC Meghan is just not going to get that empathy sad to say & then people are going to say we’re in middle of a pandemic, post US insurrection, Brexit ongoing crisis etc but you’re moaning about bad press. It sucks but it’s reality. I wouldn’t mind Oprah showing why certain headlines etc and rota behaviour was problematic though.

I hope the focus is on positive future, charity work they’ve been going BTS in US, upcoming projects including learning more about those WCK relief centres.

@Kate they’ve only sued when privacy has been invaded eg drones used to take pictures inside their home and her letter to her father being published. This is actually very similar to actions taken by royals in the past so isn’t distinct to them& is just setting healthy boundaries. I mean Charles confessed an affair on tv but nobody said he wasn’t entitled to his privacy & it was fair for the Mail to publish his Hong Kong diaries.

    • Islandgirl says:

ABRITGUEST I agree with you. While I want them, especially Meghan, to give their side and all that they experienced, they should not do it now.
Go high…focus on their love story, the racism Meghan experienced at the hands of the press and the commentators from day one, their present projects, their plans for the future.
The time will come when they can reveal all BUT it is not now.

    • Ginger says:

      Completely agree ABritGuest

  26. Liz version 700 says:

I think William’s anxiety over this will fuel an Incandescent rage that could power London. And I bet they manage light shade by barely mentioning him. Their lives are bright and moving forward. But I hope Meghan lets loose on the racism she experienced.

  27. Jay says:

They’ll be mad either way – if Harry and Meghan speak the truth, they’ll be seen as “bitter”. If they drop some shady comments, they’ll be “ungrateful”. If they focus on the charity, their growing family, and how happy they are, they’ll be “out of touch”, and there will be leaks about how hurt the royals were after all they did to help blah blah blah.

One thing is that I don’t think anybody can possibly look at Harry in person these days and think “Gosh, he’s miserable not being in the U.K.”

  28. Snuffles says:

Here is how it will all go down.

The Firm have probably already shat themselves and are holding emergency meetings as we speak. They will assume the worst (because they know they are collectively guilty as fuck and deserve a thorough dragging), and will go on the offensive ahead of the interview. Like with Finding Freedom, they will start leaking stories that will expose themselves a thousand times worse than what will actually come out of the interview.

The Cambridges might even give their own interview before March 7th out of fear and jealousy and it will go over as well as that Prince Andrew interview.

Oprah will ask very pointed questions and layout clearly all the crap Meghan has had to deal with from the moment the British Media found out she was dating Harry. I feel like Meghan will be very open about her Dad, siblings and how they betrayed her. She will give the RRs hell because she CLEARLY gives no F’s anymore when it comes to them.

But when it comes to members of the royal family she will be more diplomatic and circumspect but will manage to throw some expert level shade.

Harry will join and will probably be far more pointed in his criticism but won’t expose any secrets. But he will make it clear how let down he felt by everyone and how he feels they never stood up for or protected Meghan. Especially when he was protective of Kate when she joined the family.

Afterwards, the British Media will RAGE at getting called out and will start saying far more openly that KP, BP and CH were all briefing against Harry and Meghan, that the family secretly hates them and they were only doing what they were told to do.

ETA: They will also talk about Archewell, Netflix and Spotify and probably give Oprah a few exclusives about what is next for them.

    • Over it says:

I love your take , but can you also add that Megs deserves her moment to bitch. I so wish she would, she is probably to nice to say what we want her to, Harry should say that william didn’t call Meg that girl, he called her far worse, of that I am positive.

    • Yoyo says:

She may say she was disappointed with her father, but she is not going to talk about the half siblings, I think that is a closed chapter.
Meghan and Harry are not vindictive people, so don’t go getting your hopes up that they’re going to be bashing families.

      • Snuffles says:

I think she will make it clear she never had a relationship with them or any recent communication.

  29. Sofia says:

Honestly when this first came out, I was like “this is not a good idea” but once I let it “marinate” in my head, I’m not so against it now. Royals have done sit down interviews in the past – Charles at 70 is one recent and big example.

In terms of shade, it’s probably going to be similar to their SA documentary. A few vague hints about the royals thrown in here and there but most of their swipes will be reserved for the media IMO. Plus Oprah won’t pry into anything unless the Sussexes want her too.

And they also need to be careful about how and what the message is. This is (most likely) going to define their narrative in the US going forward. I will disagree with Kaiser and say I don’t think it should have been with Oprah. They trust Oprah a lot so I don’t want them to say too many things that are going to backfire on them too badly (yes I know their damned if they do, damned if they don’t but still). I would have gone with someone who isn’t their friend.

    • Harper says:

But America loves Oprah and the point is to get people to tune in. I was talking with my family about the upcoming interview, and my daughter said her co-workers thought Meghan was Canadian, and my hubby said he thought she was a Canadian too. There is a lot of basic background confusion about the Sussexes that needs to get straightened out, and if the masses see it and hear it from Oprah, I think it’ll stick. There is no better currency in America than having Oprah take up your cause.

      • Snuffles says:

That’s an excellent point. I would say the average person only knows bits and pieces about Meghan and Harry’s story. But they will pay attention to Oprah and tune in in DROVES. Once she lays it all out soup to nuts, they will see the WHOLE story and the backlash against the Royal Family and the British tabloids will be HUGE.

      • Sofia says:

I have no issues with Oprah’s background and/or credentials.

What I am worried for is them being interviewed by a friend which could make them go into greater depth on certain topics that they wouldn’t with someone who’s not their friend.

What the message is and how they’re saying it, is crucial as (as I said above), this interview will establish their narratives in the US going forward.

      • Becks1 says:

@Sofia I can see that concern but Oprah really isnt in the business of trapping her friends in interviews. Its one of the reasons celebrities loved going on her show – and by the end, she was usually the bigger celebrity on stage and usually friends with the person she was interviewing. She’s very good at interviewing people she knows and I think she will be the same here. She doesnt need the huge “gotcha” moment in an interview to be famous.

      • Sofia says:

@Becks: I’m not worried about Oprah trapping them on purpose but more Harry and/or Meghan saying things they wouldn’t say to someone who’s not their friend. I’m sure there’s things we would say to a friend and not a stranger.

I suppose I’m too jaded by the Bradby doc lol.

    • BayTampaBay says:

@Sofia – I am with you. When I first heard about the interview, like you my first thought “this is not a good idea” as it is too soon. However, the more I thought about the more I began to see the benefit of doing an interview, especially with Oprah. I think all well turn out well and nothing will really change except the introduction of the Sussexes to a wider Yank audience.

The Haters will continue to hate. The Supporters will continue to support. The Mail Online will continue to make money off the Sussexes via click$, view$ and comment post$.

      • Sofia says:

Agreed. And I don’t think they’ll go into depth about the BRF too much as much as people want that to happen.

Like I said above, it’ll be like the SA doc in terms of what they say about the family. It’s the media who I think will earn most of their ire.

So if anyone is wanting BRF tea and is watching solely because of that, you’ll be disappointed

      • Lady D says:

Or Harry will turn out to be far more like Diana than they thought. He has watched the woman he loves being treated like crap undeservedly for four years. He must be so furious and so hurt by what his family has done to her and him. I too doubt it will happen that way, but remember his “if you knew what I knew” statement. As I said, I don’t think that will happen, I like to think he has become so much happier and mellow in the past year away from them. The potential is there though, and one day William will go too far, he can’t help himself.

  30. February-Pisces says:

I think they are safe in the hands of auntie Oprah. She will look after them and won’t go anywhere they don’t want to.

Of course the British media is having a melt down, there’s a lot of jealousy that the Sussex’s are on good terms with American media, whilst the British are left sucking on lemons. Their golden goose is gone whilst they have to watch from afar American media reaping the rewards of their good relationship with them.

  31. whateveryousay says:

They are so ridiculous. At least the BM got told about themselves with the pregnancy announcement. Honestly, why do none of them even get that attacking a pregnant woman is a terrible idea?

And for the last time, they didn’t say we wanted to hide in the shadows. They said that that they wanted things to be fair and the constant hit pieces that were coming out from the RR with the say so of Harry’s freaking brother was enough. They didn’t want to be full time Royals since they thought that pulling back would make William less jealous and the RR may finally decide to focus on someone else. These people stay exhausting.

I am sure that most of this interview is going to talk about what is the really big hot topics for black women in America (racism against her from the time the public found out they were dating through the present day; maternal health care for black women; and the toxicity of her family). There’s no way that Harry or Meghan are going to use this to come at the Queen or anyone else. They will probably use this platform to talk about the vitriol of online trolls and ten bucks Oprah backs that up with receipts via their former Instagram account. And I hope that they get into some of the things that became known such as Harry being called a race traitor, the very real threats that the two of them had against them and Archie, etc.

There’s enough to speak on for 90 minutes without disparaging the Queen though God knows she deserves it.

    • June-O says:

As much as I loathe Meghan’s grifter relatives, I’m not comfortable with her family’s behavior coming under fire and not Harry’s. Harry’s family had just as much if not far more to do with their misery and need to leave as Meghan’s dad and siblings, but they’ve always been shielded by their status. For goodness’ sake, Meghan was effectively an employee of the Queen, yet was allowed to be mercilessly abused and harassed, not just by the media but assuredly also by Royal staff. That’s a well- deserved stain on QE.

The British Royal Family is one of the most famously dysfunctional families in modern history, and if Meghan’s family is fair game, they should be, too. However, I’m not naive enough to think that would be a good move for the Sussex’s future endeavors. They (the Royal Fam) still inexplicably hold a lot of global goodwill and being seen to criticise them, even justifiably, would be a mistake. But in that case, Meghan’s family should be equally off- limits.

      • whateveryousay says:

I agree. But there’s no way that either of them are going to shit talk the Queen. I really wish they would go after William since we all know at this point he was behind the leaks.

Who even knows how to deal with a brother who fed stories about your wife which were lies (Frogmore, the tiara story, the Kate crying story, etc.). Heck they even fed that crap story about them demanding that Charles pay for their security. Did William even think that through? Credible threats against his brother, sister in law, and nephew were made and being made and everyone thought let’s take away their security? Good grief.

  32. Justine says:

Now that Kaiser pointed out Gayle King, i wish they chose her for the interview, i love her!

  33. Ginger says:

I’m really excited for this interview. I don’t think they will talk much about the RF but will rip into the media. I also think they will spend a lot of time discussing their life in the US and Archewell. I’m just glad they are speaking their truth. Maybe they can put some rumors to rest.

The RF and BM will reveal themselves leading up to the interview just like with Finding Freedom. If the family was so supportive and nice then they have nothing to fear, right?

    • harla says:

I agree Ginger!! Meghan and Harry don’t strike me as people who live in the past but instead are always looking forward.

  34. Amy Bee says:

I can’t wait for this interview. It will be good to finally hear their side of the story and for them to get a chance to change the narrative that has been forced upon them by the British press and the Royal Family. The royal rota has no right to be up in arms about the interview and Jobson talking about disrespecting the Queen when she and her family have done their utmost to disrespect and embarrass Harry and Meghan. He needs to GTFO with that nonsense.

  35. RoyalBlue says:

Jobson is so salty and gives himself away by using the derogatory term Megxit so I know exactly where he stands. Betrayal of Trust? Every royal has given interviews, why so worried about betrayal now and how exactly could Meghan and Harry, by speaking their truth, embarrass Petty? Unless Petty did something she would be embarrassed about should it come to light? Did he expect silence from the biracial duchess?

Then there is this duty vs. cash hang up that the Firm tends to push to ensure a guilty conscience on any who so chooses to leave. Notice how they only have a problem with cash when you can earn it honestly for yourself, but not when they scrounge off the public or their father/brother/nephew etc. Not one of them have worked a hard day’s work outside the firm and wait thirstily to be paid by Charles.

Yes, he is an army veteran, and no, they did not exit noisily and dramatically. The media blew it up so it was noisy and dramatic.

He is more concerned about old racist geezer Philip’s 100th birthday party being spoiled than the disgusting bullying and harassments that continues in the media.

  36. Over it says:

I wish. People would stop acting like the queen is some sweet cookies making granny. She is not. She is a racist, petty, rape protecting, mean spirited hobbit.

I’d say don’t insult hobbits, but if you read the source and meta material they could be pretty bitchy (up to and including if not bumping off the family matriach, at least not exactly shedding a tear over the ‘accident’).
But yeah. If Brenda didn’t learn a thing or two from her Machiavellian mother, the courtiers picked up a few things to add to the arsenal.

  37. Midge says:

Diana would be so proud of and happy for Harry. He is living her dream. As for William, she would be deeply saddened at how he was so fully indoctrinated.

  38. Bibi says:

I think they have always knew that a there would be plan for a march 2021 interview and even more when the palace said there qas nothing to review. They didnt probably didnt know anything about the pregnancies, winning the lawsuit, but they new they wanted to give an update on what’s to happen for their 1 year interview. They wanted to beat the courtiers to what they would say (all the bullsht) and now they are going to be nervous as hell cuz wtf to respond the next day???!!!! OMG The writers are going to write their response scenarios to the bone. lol everything that went well for the sussexes is just the result of their good karma, doing good in life brings you good things. May they be watched over.

  39. Midnight@theOasis says:

The BM needs to stop the hypocrisy. Both Sarah, Duchess of York and Diana’s brother, Lord Spencer, sat down for interviews with Oprah. Where was the outrage and hand wringing then? I say good for H&M to do an interview with Oprah to clear the air and then move forward.

    • ABritGuest says:

That’s the thing royals have done multiple interviews with US networks. Charles had one with CNN recently. I saw that Charles and Diana did US interview addressing the press before a US tour. Harry did one with Robin Roberts& Harry & William did joint one with Matt Lauer. I feel like William would have done some milestone age interviews too but can’t remember

I’m sure there have been others. Anne has done some. Harry has also done more personal interviews for Sky I think on leaving army life. So idea of royals doing interviews isn’t new

      • HeatherC says:

Wasn’t a reporter on ABC (I cannot remember her name) handcuffed from reporting on Andrew’s connection to Epstein with the promise of network access to William and Kate?

  40. TheOriginalMia says:

The Rota are showing their asses and we haven’t even gotten a teaser for the interview. I don’t think Harry & Meghan will trash the royals, even if they so richly deserve it. I do believe they will explain why they wanted a different life from the rest. It won’t embarrass Queenie, so much as explain why being non-working royals was the best decision for them. Meghan has every right to discuss the racism & misogyny she’s faced sine they went public. Speak your truth, Meghan! Harry may finally put to rest the narrative that he’s following Meghan’s lead when she’s following his. He wanted to leave and had been planning to do so since the engagement. He may even mention his mother and her memorial statue. They’ll definitely talk Archewell and their future projects. Hopefully, we’ll get a glimpse of the estate and Archie.

  41. Ginger says:

CBS Morning show had a segment on the interview and Gayle King (BFF with Oprah) said Oprah is excited and going over her questions and Harry and Meghan said nothing is off limits so it should be very interesting.
She has full range to ask whatever she wants.

  42. tee says:

There are so many ways this could backfire, but I’m just really excited for Meghan to be able to tell her own story; for her to take back her power and reclaim her voice. For years, the predominant narrative has been filtered and distorted through the truly hateful British press, and they’ve succeeded in convincing ordinary people that she’s some truly awful woman. I just want people to see Meghan for who she’s always publicly been, and that’s confident, kind, thoughtful, and utterly harmless. Which is precisely why the BM is pissed, bc they’ve claimed she was everything but.

    • Amy Bee says:

Why would it backfire? Meghan’s reputation and her relationship with her father have been destroyed. Harry has been forced to leave the UK because of the treatment of his wife and child. It can’t get worse than that. The interview is necessary for them to retake the narrative and to promote their work. An interview as inevitable as they try to re-establish themselves in the US. The British press may not like what they have to say but who cares, Harry and Meghan don’t live there anymore.

      • harla says:

I would disagree that Meghan’s reputation has been destroyed, that is what the British tabloids would like you to believe because they’ve worked really hard to accomplish that but Netflix and Spotify aren’t giving multi-million dollar deals to just anyone and certainly not to someone with a horrible reputation.

      • JT says:

Meghan definitely took a huge hit being associated with that family. That can’t be denied. Many people think she was some broke girl, straight outta Compton, trying to steal the crown jewels. Wasn’t that the subtext around William and Angela blocking her? People forget or don’t know that she was a self made millionaire, Ivy league graduate, who was extremely connected despite being a “B list actress.” Her circle of friends were connected to the Prince, she didn’t have to try to get in his circle, she was already there. I think it’s good to reintroduce themselves to the American media, as this where they will be and America has the reach to propel them to where they want to go.

  43. Mtec says:

My money is on Harry to bring the petty and the shade lol.

I think Meghan will continue to be composed and diplomatic as usual–though I hope to see some of that “I am our son’s mother” mama bear fire come out, haha.

Either way, I’m gonna enjoy it, ’cause I just enjoy them. I can’t wait.

    • JT says:

I’ve looked at some of past interviews and he is surprisingly candid. You’re right that it will be Harry who will take the shots if there are any. It’s his family and his status that has caused all this trouble. So it should come from him. Besides the media has not gone after him the way they have with Meghan.

  44. Beach Dreams says:

Cue a wave of panic and self-ownage from the palace for the next 3 weeks. This interview will probably be primarily focused on establishing themselves as separate from the royal family and their plans for Archewell. I highly doubt they will say much about the RF. Harry will probably be throwing some shade, but no more than that.

  45. Amelie says:

I’m pretty surprised they are doing this, I thought they would never do a major TV sit down interview about their move to the US. I’m also kind of surprised they didn’t go with Gayle King instead of Oprah. I know Oprah is Oprah and her name alone will ensure millions will watch the special, but Gayle King is a respected TV journalist. I didn’t watch it but I still remember the R. Kelly interview where he stood up and stormed around and she sat there keeping her cool. Though maybe it was easier to have Oprah do it because she lives near them? I think Gayle is located on the East Coast mostly and with COVID travel restrictions, a virtual sit-down interview wouldn’t be quite as impactful as an in person interview.

I will definitely watch it/record it for later (it’s airing the same day as my dad’s birthday). It will be very interesting to see how much of a deep dive it is or if it will be more about their work and their Netflix/Spotify deals and whatever else they have in the pipeline.

    • Ginger says:

Yes, Oprah lives very close to them and Gayle lives in NY. Oprah also has her project with Harry so that could be another reason. Oprah is a good interviewer so I think this will be interesting.

  46. Commonwealthy says:

They (and all royals except monarchs and immediate heir, if you ask me) are celebrities. Royalty in the post-WW2 era (maybe before) is fluff. Their website(s) and lawsuits candidly told us why they’re leaving. Archewell site told us what they want to do, and this is going to be a big part of the “what next” part of the interview – this mostly likely part of Archewell’s rollout. Why do they “need” to go away? Their fans can’t get enough (because they don’t actually give us that much, they’re often in the news for fabrications and occasionally their responses to those fabrications), and if you’re not a fan, it’s not their fault news about them is a bit inescapable right now.

  47. harla says:

I’m so excited!!!! Life has really turned around for the Sussex’s and while not all has been unicorn and kittens, I feel that all the positive and good that has come their way is proof that they made the right decision in stepping back as working royals. I am so glad that the queen was too shortsighted to approve their half-in/half-out proposal, fully out is the best way for them.

  48. Sinéad says:

How come it’s on CBS though? Doesn’t Oprah own OWN network? Why wouldn’t it be on that?

    • MsIam says:

CBS is a much bigger platform, plus I think Oprah has some type of deal with them. This is a huge “get” for CBS too.

  49. MsIam says:

I was so glad to hear this! And the salty tabloids can suck it! I definitely will be there to watch the interview. My hope is that Meghan reveals some of the things that were uncovered by her lawsuit as far as media’s dirty practices.. I don’t know if that information has to be kept under wraps still, now that the lawsuit is over.

  50. Case says:

This admittedly makes me a little nervous for them, but I think they’ll do great. They won’t be shady — they’ll focus on their new work, their life in the States, their growing family. The best revenge is to live a happy life and I totally think that’s their approach to all the crap with the RF.

This will air my birthday weekend, so what a treat for me!

  51. Merricat says:

I don’t think Meghan has to explicitly name what has been done to her by the RF–I think it will be evident, when she lays out the evidence of abuse from the rota, that the RF was complicit. I think it will be so evident as to be damning, and perhaps the RF think that, as well.

  52. Keroppi says:

This is going to be the most-watched interview! And you can bet that the royals will be tuning in themselves.

I’m so happy for Meghan and Harry. They are living their lives the way they want to and are succeeding!

  53. Just the fact that —- if the Sussexes had been supported by family, The Firm, and the British media —- this first interview with the couple would have happened on British soil with a respected British journalist and focus on their work as senior members of the royal family, tells all of us exactly where to lay the blame for their SUSSEXit. The fact that it is happening in America, with a well respected interviewer and will probably focus mostly on Archewell and their work going forward as private citizens no longer part of The Firm or living on British soil, says it all.

  54. Jaded says:

Many years ago, circa 2006, I met Oprah at a black-tie event for the media company I was working for. I was in utter awe but my gawd that woman has charisma oozing out of every pore in her body. She was totally down to earth, engaging, didn’t mind doing all the hand-shaking and chit-chat with everyone and was funny as hell. Never met anyone quite like her and probably never will. I’ve no doubt that she won’t lob softballs at M&H but it won’t be spiteful tittle-tattle on the BRF, it will be a high level interview doing a deep dive into the work they wanted to do but weren’t allowed, and the successes they’ve achieved by leaving the toxicity behind.

  55. Alexandria says:

The BM can moan and bash all they want but they would kill each other if the Sussexes asked them to compete in a fight-off for an exclusive “tell all”.

I don’t think they will attack the BRF. I think they will talk about their projects, life in US and their family. I think they could call out mistruths peddled by the media as part of the causes they’re passionate about (similar to Harry’s interview that called out RUPERT MURDEROCH’S “papers”).

  56. L4frimaire says:

Wow this is exciting. 100% agree that Oprah is the only person who could pull this off, with maybe Gayle as second. No one else could do this. The UK is losing its collective mind and all here for it. If the Royal family and the media over there hadn’t decided to try to destroy this woman for marrying the 6th in line to the throne, and just showing a hint of decency, this wouldn’t happen. Meghan does not traffic in revenge stories but she definitely believes in using her voice, and she will use it. I think it will cover a lot, address some things. I also hope Oprah asked her some thought questions as well, which she will. Plus we’ll see her baby bump. I hope they talk a lot about privacy because no one in the UK seem to understand what it’s about. I especially want to hear about their work and how they’ll move forward.

  57. L4frimaire says:

Betrayal is an interesting word choice. It sounds very Mafia- like and abusive. We serve you up on a silver platter and does not defend or protect you, but want your loyalty. This is why when they shriek privacy, they mean they want the Sussexes to disappear, like they’re in witness protection. They don’t want them talking.

  58. diana says:

I have a tough time believing that they are going to reveal all that much about the relationship with his family now. Although I was surprised somewhat when Harry in that interview in Africa basically confirmed in a round about way that his relationship with William was strained.

  59. lanne says:

Harry and Meghan’s biggest “crime,” as far as the royals are concerned, is not treating royalty as the be all and end all. The whole point of aristocracy is hierarchy. They have their tedious, tiny world trapped in moldering palaces covered with dog hair based on the accidents of their birth. Their rituals are markers of superiority over other people. The “rich kids” Instagrammers are a slightly more vulgar example of the same idea: performative superiority. The only reason you show off your stuff, or scoff at people who don’t understand your rules and norms is that you need the attention of the people you consider to be beneath you. You crave their envy and feelings of inferiority more than you crave the trappings of your wealth.

The British royal family is supposed to be the epitome of white superiority. See the middletons, who achieved their life’s dream by scoring a title for their eldest daughter. Who cares if her husband seems to despise her and the country expects her to be a mute, pretty, slender broodmare. The only real “legitimacy” that Kate could get is approval from the aristo class. So she and her family ape their mores as well as they can, hoping beyond hope for acceptance. Meghan and Harry leaving undermines the entire idea of the privilege of aristocracy and by proxy, ultimate white supremacy. The courtiers, the media, and likely William among others in the RF probably think of Harry as the ultimate “race traitor.” He took for a wife a woman who should have been nothing more than a bedmate. Instead of abandoning her (which he would have been forgiven for had he done so), he left the zenith of white superiority for her, and took sanctuary with the people that aristos believe are theirs to own and conquer. A prince of the royal blood has sided with the colonized, not the colonizer. That’s got to be embarrassing to them. At every turn, he chooses “inferiors” (their perception, not mine obvs) over them. No wonder they’re furious. No wonder they don’t even consider how this all might look to the Commonwealth. They still see themselves as overlords: benevolent, paternal overlords who have the “natives best interest at heart.”

Harry and Meghan are exposing the fiction that royalty—the idea of breeding and birthright itself—is aspirational, and the epitome of social status. They expose the truth about hereditary privilege: it’s not special or even all that remarkable of itself who a persons relatives are. The Crown ISNT everything. In fact, the Crown really isn’t much of anything at all, really. That’s why Kate and William are so unappealing next to Meghan and Harry. Without the crown, the Sussexes have life, love, work, and they create their own purpose. Without the Crown, who are Kate and William?

  60. Isabella says:

I thought of Meghan when I watched “Framing Britney Spears” documentary last week. Honestly, nothing has changed. It’s bad enough in the U.S., for a pretty little white girl. Can’t imagine what Meghan went through in the UK. The framing is every bit as crazy and toxic. Meghan couldn’t even have a baby shower without being screamed at. Nobody compared Britney’s kids to apes. When H&M ask for privacy, this is what they mean. Leave our family alone.

  61. Noor says:

does the prince and his wife need this interview ? Surely not.

  62. Lizzie says:

Most likely this will end up as a promotion for a Netflix project. No way they randomly decided to do an interview and spill the tea. I expect that after both the queen and Charles pass on.

  63. 2cents says:

I disagree. This will not be the tell-all-interview that many are hoping for!

This interview is well timed and excellent to further promote H&M as a global brand: a loving couple, each authentic in their own right, a young growing family, a great business team, ambitious humanitarians who strive to change the world. A lot to talk about: Archewell, Spotify, Netflix, living in California, new American baby…………and yes they are non working royals from their recent past.

As Harry said in the Africa interview: the royals remain family but they are clearly on different paths. These paths have widened since Sussexit and both sides are happy with the outcome. The royal family will never be progressive and H&M will never be conservative. So east is east and west is west and……..🤷🏻‍♀️ This interview will not give us more details. It is their past, a closed chapter!

What remains is their problem with the nasty toxic UK media. The British royal reporters and tabloids act like ruthless stockmarket daytraders, fixed on winning small margins in the bull- and in the bearmarket, creating misinformation to earn the almighty clickbait and survive in a declining markettrend. It is very rewarding that H&M won their recent lawsuits against the press. So they will be upbeat. This will be the main topic of the interview: ongoing press bullying by the UK tabloids. Luckily they have huge support from fans and well-wishers who don’t fall for the press crap.

Make way for global brand H&M!

I wish them the best of luck!
