The interview will be ‘the loudest way’ Duchess Meghan ‘will get her voice back’

Centenary celebrations of the Royal Air Force

You can really tell that Buckingham Palace is in shambles following the events of the past week and a half. A series of dominoes fell: the Duchess of Sussex won her summary judgment, the Sussexes announced they were expecting another child, they announced the Oprah interview and the Sussexes clapped back at the Palace’s statement about service and duty. How can we tell that the Palace is in shambles? Because they can’t even get their stories straight about what they knew and when, why Harry is awful, why they’re so scared of the Oprah interview, or why they (the Palace officials) spent the past week trying furiously to complete the one-year review. Here are some highlights from the Daily Mail’s increasingly hysterical coverage, mostly about the Oprah interview:

Harry didn’t tell the Queen about the Oprah interview: The Mail on Sunday has also revealed that Prince Harry did not inform the Queen about the ‘tell-all’ interview with Oprah Winfrey. Her Majesty was ‘blindsided’ last week when it emerged that the Duchess of Sussex and her husband had agreed to talk to the American chat show host. She learned of it only when US TV network CBS hurriedly issued a statement on Monday after a producer working for Ms Winfrey mistakenly alerted ITV to the project. Harry not only kept the deal secret, sources question whether he instigated the discussions with the Queen over the Sussexes’ ‘divorce deal’ in order for it to be settled before the interview, which was recorded last Tuesday.

Why did the Queen scramble to complete the one-year review? Insiders insist the Oprah interview did not influence the decision by the Queen to strip Harry and Meghan of their royal patronages and honorary military titles. She sent a letter explaining the decision to her grandson after the Oprah interview had been announced, but had written it some days earlier.

The ITV leak? ITV discovered that the Duke and Duchess were to give an interview with Ms Winfrey when a member of the chat show host’s team requested access to news presenter Tom Bradby’s 2019 interview with Meghan in which she expressed unhappiness at her treatment by the British media. When ITV approached a spokesman for Harry and Meghan for comment, the decision was made to release a statement revealing the interview. A source said: ‘They had kept the interview totally secret. The Queen was not told, the Palace was not told. It seems clear from the sequence of events that they wanted and needed to know the final outcome [of the Queen’s decision] before they taped Oprah.’

When the Sussexes recorded the interview: The couple recorded their tell-all sit down with the American chat show host on Wednesday and Thursday [Feb. 17 & 18] – just hours before the couple issued their parting shot. It has also emerged that Oprah had been with the Sussexes immediately before their riposte was released, having taken her £50 milllion Gulfstream jet to Santa Barbara – where she owns a second home a short drive from the pair.

They just have to bring up Prince Philip: In stark contrast to that glamorous meeting, Harry’s grandfather, Prince Philip, remains in hospital, and was visited by a teary-eyed Prince Charles yesterday, with the 99-year-old expected to continue to be monitored and encouraged to rest into next week.

What will Meghan say to Oprah: A source told the Sun: ‘The pair are clearly very close to Oprah and the fact she’s been with them at such an intense time has given her a unique insight into the rift with the royals. The drama of last week means that Oprah’s tell-all show will be pure gold. It’s time to hide behind the sofa for the other royals.’

Getting their voices back: ‘Having an institutional voice within the royal family wasn’t enough [for Meghan]. This interview will be the loudest way she’ll get her voice back. When they first started dating Meghan felt she had lost her voice. She had had a platform as a moderately successful actress, and when she was told to stop using her social media and be careful what she said, I could tell that loss of voice and independence pained her.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Repetitive references to Prince Philip’s hospitalization are sprinkled throughout all of the British media’s coverage of this current Sussex drama, which is predictable and awful. They’re using a very old man’s illness to punish Harry and Meghan for something that is completely unrelated. As for the rest of it… as I said, the chaos coming out of Buckingham Palace over the past week and a half was not the measured self-confidence of a monarch who knew she was doing the right thing and had a concrete plan put in place before the Sussexes’ series of disclosures. What we saw was a half-assed smear job from a Palace which was caught off-guard and had to wing it.

She never lost her voice, she just wasn’t allowed to use it. Now the whole lot of them can STFU because the Duchess of Montecito gonna grab the mic and DROP IT.

    • alibeebee says:

yes!!! and she’s a Black woman and she better know how to bring the shade ! They gonna learn on March 7th exactly who they were messing with.

      • MA says:

I’m tired of all the pearl clutchers even some supposedly on the Sussexes side. Black women always have to “go high” and be the bigger person. I’m looking forward to Meghan telling her truth in any way she chooses to and will support however it turns out even if she ends up revealing names and calling out the family. She’s not the perpetrator here, she was the victim of abuse.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Exactly! She was muffled, gagged and asked to lower herself. But no longer. She’s spoken on a world stage way before getting into that family. I suppose you have to be muffled when the other Duchess can’t even read off cue cards or copy off one correctly.

    • PrincessK says:

There are so many hateful devils out there praying for a Sussex divorce….I hope I am still around to witness the Sussexes celebrate their 25th!

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

The whole thing with dragging Prince Phillip into it… and low key blaming her for his hospitalization? Who was to blame when she miscarried, then? We gonna hear about that?
I want to see that mic drop.

      • Over it says:

The palaces and the British media. Same people in my opinion because of all the lingering stress they had inflicted on her. Years of abuse doesn’t magically go away over night.

  2. Ronaldinho says:

The Duchess will be incredibly classy, as always. She is about positives. Anything she will say will be couched in terms boundaries being crossed, feeling unsafe and it being a hostile environment to live in and under the shadow of.
She may say it was heart breaking and incredibly disappointing and I think that would be honest.
She will also speak about how proud she is of the Duke as a man and father and of his willingness to grow, address his privilege and acknowledge unspoken feelings of racism he had held or had left unchallenged.

She has them on notice. She won’t play her full hand as it will leave her without weapons and playing against a 95yo with a sick husband.
If she guns, she’ll gun for William – in the future, if pushed

    • Amy Bee says:

I agree with your speculation on what Meghan will speak about her time as a royal and about Harry. The British press will still bash her for speaking but she has a right to speak out. At this point the Royal Family has been speaking about Harry and Meghan in the press with no reply from them. It’s time for Harry and Meghan to have a chance to tell their side of the story.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I agree. I however cannot wait for her to tell it all at some point. Thank God Diana did. If not the same rota rats and family would have made sure the truth stayed buried.

    • PrincessK says:

Yes, when they go low, we go high….

  3. Becks1 says:

“It’s time to hide behind the sofa for the other royals.’”

Well at least someone is coming out and saying it. The royals and the courtiers are freaking out because they know what the Sussexes COULD say. I doubt they’ll say anything that damages the family (although the courtiers and press probably are in danger) but they COULD say some really damaging things, and thats why everyone is running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Also, stay mad British press, that the Black woman has her own private plane, and has multiple homes, etc. Sorry, but Oprah outranks all your petty asses.

    • Amy Bee says:

I think if Oprah asks Meghan if members of the family were unwelcoming and/or racist to her. She will answer the question but she won’t name names.

      • Bex says:

We all saw Princess Michael of Kent’s racist Blackamoor brooch.

      • Over it says:

I hope Oprah ask Harry about william and his bed of roses, and then Harry can say well I wasn’t there so you will have to ask him or her. That would be shady and funny. The bus reversing to run over willyleaks.lolololol

  4. Sierra says:

I am still almost willing to bet that they won’t do a full tell all. My money is on Meghan to focus on the actual experience of being a royal and campaign for their charities.

    • Spanky says:

I agree. If there is a Big Reveal, it will be about some amazing new partnerships they have created within Archewell. I think that the Oprah interview is kickoff time for their as-of-yet unrevealed new charitable endeavors.

      • Love says:

On or around women’s international day❤️. Please Meghan, announce you’re going back to the UN and world vision 🙏🏾🙏🏾

  5. Snuffles says:

I’m glad the interview is in the can. They so obviously trying to use Prince Philip in the hospital to guilt trip them. Complete with Charles visiting (which he NEVER does) and coming out teary eyed. I seriously was on death watch the whole weekend but it seems like Philip is status quo for now.

This will definitely be a fascinating interview. Even if all they talk about is their move, setting up Archewell, Netflix, Spotify, the new home, Archie and her pregnancies. It would all be riveting to me.

I don’t think Meghan will go scorched earth on the family. I think from her the gist of it will be feeling unsupported, unprotected, and no one caring if she sank or swam. And just not fitting in with The Firm’s corporate culture and they way they do things. We will probably get something on the Markles too.

Meghan will probably share the bulk of her ire for the British tabloids. Because she is so clearly DONE with them. No more fucks to give.

The wildcard here is Harry. How much will he say about the internal workings of the family business and his relationship with the Queen, Charles and William. He will probably be a little more pointed but what I REALLY want Oprah to ask is how much communication he’s had with his family since this has all gone down. That will tell the tale for me.

    • bros says:

Teary -eyed charles was the best nugget. that man would not be shedding tears in public for his cold ass parents. we all know this. what a silly little detail to include.

      • Snazzy says:

Right? I came here to say that. That man has never been teary eyed in his life, unless it’s about himself

      • Amy Bee says:

It was all an act so that the press could condemn Harry and Meghan. I’ll always say Charles is not an honourable man and he only concerned about his image and protecting the Crown.

      • Lady D says:

Pretty sure it was the cold wind that made his eyes water. They also couldn’t decide if he was arriving or leaving when weeping.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

Between Charles and TM, I don’t know who is more trash. He is the most self centred being ever. The only person he has ever stood up for is the Mistress of Cornwall. He is a disgrace to fatherhood.

      • Over it says:

Lol agree with all of you,

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

“I’m glad the interview is in the can.”

Um…..I dont think this should be taken as gospel. Consider the source.

Wasnt this the same rag that said Whogenie’s baby was named Sprat/Spike/Sam (cant recall rt now) which turned out to be a big fat lie? I think I’ll go with Gayle who said last wk that Oprah was still refining her questions.

  6. Myra says:

Whatever Meghan say, the BM will turn it into something negative. She should tell her own truth to the extent that she is comfortable to share her story with us. They will froth at the mouth either ways. William will be raging, the Queen will be blindsided and Charles will be… probably a coward as usual, despite having conducted a press conference/interview where he reveals his own adultery.

  7. Bettyrose says:

I had to read that gulfstream jet comment multiple times. It was Oprah who took the jet. She was somewhere other than Santa Barbara and returned. H & M did not fly on a “$50 million” private plane.

    • Chaine says:

Right?! What does the cost of Oprah’s plane have to do with anything? British media can’t stand the sight of a successful black woman.

      • Carmen-JamRock says:

Its an endemic envy and inferiority complex within the british psyche that we’ve seen over and over and over again. Their class system is strictly observed especially by the lower classes and those ‘above’ them who want to ensure everyone is kept “in their place”, unfortunately and anyone whom they believe is achieving “above their station” is to be torn down.

      • Over it says:

Doesn’t will not and can not fly around on their own helicopter given to them by the queen? Well at least Oprah worked for hers and isn’t using the tax payers money to buy one. These royal rota rats need to shut the heck up,

    • SarahCS says:

Wow. Black people really aren’t allowed to have money are they?

    • Nic919 says:

Oprah using a private jet much less the cost of the jet is beyond ridiculous. If only they would tally up the cost of the tax payer funded castles and mansions in the same manner.

Oprah can buy what she wants. It’s her money.

    • Cecilia says:

Oprah and meghan&harry are neighbors. I doubt she took a private jet

      • Lady D says:

I read Oprah flew from her home in Hawaii to her home next door to H&M, for the interview. Sorry, I don’t remember where I read it.

  8. Merricat says:

If Philip is dying, it’s because he’s really, really old. Nothing Sussex about it.

    • Desert Lizard says:

You are so right. I think Philip was probably among the happiest that they were gone. I’m sure he cared for Harry but, from past spewings he has given us, I doubt Philip shed a tear over the black duchess or her child leaving. My guess is that most of that family is happy they are gone and H&M would be out of sight, out of mind if the BM would shut up about them. It’s interesting to watch Betty scramble. I’m sure the family is in knots over this interview. Wonder what Betty will say in her speech on the 7th.

  9. Amy Bee says:

I believe the Palace when they say that the interview didn’t influence the decision to strip Harry and Meghan of their patronages. It was the announcement that Meghan was pregnant again. Up to that point the Royal Family still hoped that Harry would leave Meghan and Archie and return to the UK permanently. Also, I believe Charles’ visit to Phillip was done so that the press and the Palace could attack Harry and Meghan. It was the Queen who decided that it was necessary to put out a statement while Phillip was in the hospital. She could have waited until he was discharged.

    • Ginger says:

Agreed Amy. On Sunday they announced they were expecting and by Monday there was talk of them losing their patronages. This was all due to the baby and not the Oprah interview, they are just hiding behind it. The one year review wasn’t supposed to happen until the end of March, why was the Queen so anxious to get it over with? They wanted only Harry back.

    • Over it says:

Having a person or people in that family of racist on that racist island must really kill them. The magnificent 7 which I see as the geriatric 5, the incandescent and the top exhausted ceo are all milky white. Harry spoiled that with his love of a woman of color and the colored children they made out of love.

  10. Cecilia says:

I always maintained that the interview wasn’t going to spill any actual tea, however after the “service is universal” and archies birth certificate clap back i think out duchess is well an truly done. That and the way the palace is scrambling. I don’t think she will directly expose family members but i do think there will be some subtle shade and hints, and i 100% believe she’s going to go all in on the british media.

  11. tee says:

Idk, I feel like the tide is finally turning for H&M (ie the BM narrative no longer being the dominant narrative) and this interview can right the ship for good. Just be honest, be positive, and keep it cute. They’re not the bad guys in any logical, non-royalist reading of the situation. They just have to make that clear, with humility and self-awareness for their extreme privilege. Their public behavior over the last year shows they’re perfectly capable of that.

  12. ProfPlum says:

If F*ck around and find out was an interview. I cannot wait.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

LOL! Yaaas! Anyone else feeling celebratory? I’m noticing some on my Twitter TL talking about dressing up like it’s Oscars night and sipping some good wine.

I am too deep into pandemic weight gain to put on a fancy dress :distressed face: … but I’m tempted to put on my best pyjamas and throw on a cheap tiara. Champagne, anyone?

  13. Commonwealthy says:

These guys (BRF, BM) are so friggin weird!! Why is the cost of Oprah’s plane relevant? Do they ever mention the cost of the Duke of Westminster’s private plane which Will, Kate and the Middletons use for their vacations? Do they ever mention the cost of the palaces where all this gold-star royaling is taking place? So, so, so odd.

The rest of it is to be expected. Scrambling, in denial, using Phillip’s illness to distract.

  14. Sunday says:

I don’t believe any of this. I don’t believe that Oprah and CBS “accidentally leaked” the interview to ITA, I don’t believe that the Queen had written Harry a letter about her decision re: the patronages prior to hearing about the pregnancy/interview, I don’t even believe that the interview has already been recorded. (Even if the interview was recorded, they can always supplement with updates about recent events.)

What I do believe is the royal family is just showing themselves to be the hypocrites we know they are by lambasting Harry for not being by Philip’s side when the only England-based royal that’s visited him is Charles, while William runs to the press to cry about Harry, and the Queen’s out here announcing speeches. The sheer jealousy and panic radiating off the royal family is both hilarious and extremely telling – if they hadn’t done anything to the Sussexes, they wouldn’t have anything to fear.

  15. L4frimaire says:

I don’t know what all this back and forth is about except it’s messy as usual. It does show that Harry was right to not want the one year review. This could have been settled anytime in the last year ago and the fact that it was being strung along until the interview reveal shows how the royals refused to see what was right here in front of their eyes, and refused to address this. The wreath incident said it all. So if this was planned before the interview, was it the baby announcement and court case that was the actual final push, or was it decided earlier? It seems in general the royals like to save these little nuggets for later release when it benefits them or the government. There was some big corruption ruling regarding the government and it was barely mentioned. Why pay attention to whys actually affecting people’s lives when they have Harry and Meghan.

  16. Wit of the Staircase says:

Agree she will be classy and positive, and Harry charming. They won’t attack his family. And I think they will hit hard on the toxicity of both the BM and social media. Harry has commented on this several times.

  17. CC2 says:

Like everyone else, I don’t think Meghan is going to go all in. Harry too. If they were, shade should be pointed towards KP and not Harry’s grandpa and grandma.

I admit the Sussexes are pretty unpredictable at the moment. I didn’t expect the shade in the statements!

I feel in despair in Meghan’s behalf. I do think she doesn’t carry herself in the most optimal way at times (more to do with her talking) but at the same time, her critics simply hate her no matter what she does because of bigotry.. I still feel a tad nervous about the interview though. I simply can’t imagine Meghan going all out.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

CC2, I find it interesting that everyone assumes that Meghan is the one behind the birth certificate statement and this last one regarding service. I think it was Harry. He can be a bit of a hot head and I could see him being very pointed about the birth certificate, because I bet he was livid when the palace made them change it. I bet Meghan was hurt and devastated that they did that. Also, he’s always talking about service when he does speeches for the military. I just keep thinking that this is Harry hitting back. If the brf want to worry about anyone, that’s who they should be worried about.

  18. Watson says:

I don’t think this interview will be scorched earth material. It will however include dramatic pauses, tear filled eyes about feeling abused by the rota, lots of info about their charity and the way forward. All they have to do is to keep it classy, keep it positive and everyone will sympathize them. We all know they were done dirty. If they do this along with their positive PR (like their recent donation to genesis), then they are golden.

  19. alibeebee says:

I hope they are subtle and bring the shade. let some tea spill just a tiny bit. M and H need to check the BRF just a little. like a shot across the bow.. to let them know they have their number and that if they were smarter they’d behave or risk getting trounced. you can do this in a very diplomatic classy way and it will speak volumes. Meghan seems unbothered to me she sees them for exactly who and what they are pathetic unexceptional and low calibre type of people. that’s why all the salty brits are salty . they assumed she’d scurry about, bow and scrape and “c**n” it up for those yt people with their superiority complex and she would not play their game Meghan knows her WORTH! Harry is a wildcard, he might decide to burn the entire house down and if he does I a’int mad at him.

  20. Lowrider says:

The institution is so scared of Meghan talking. Interesting.

    • alibeebee says:

because they know she has receipts. she is incredibly intelligent and they don’t know who she is . they never took the time to know she has ethics and honour in her. They must have said things to her face that were blatantly horrible , emails , communications she shouldn’t have been privy to but may have been accidentally included on . like you know and email chain accidentally sent to everyone when it shouldn’t have . something nasty went down and they know the roof can cave in on them ..

    • TeamAwesome says:

Meanwhile, they don’t need to be scared of her. They need to be scared of HARRY. He’s been privy to the Windsor Brand of Toxic his entire life. “If you knew what I knew…” indeed, Harry. I want Meghan to talk about her feelings and experiences, but if there is tea to be spilled I want it coming straight from the Royal Doulton with the hand painted periwinkles Prince.

      • alibeebee says:

oooh i got goosebumps… love it straight from the royal doulton he’s the wildcard and i am here for it.

  21. MA says:

To use a phrase that’s been repeatedly thrown at the Sussexes, the royal family want to have their cake and eat it too. They can’t keep saying th Sussexes are out and then act shocked that they’re acting outside of the palace.
Funny thing is the Sussexes were willing to let the palace have this control with their part time offer but the royal family shout themselves in the foot.

  22. Shim says:

They’re trying to paint Harry into a corner. If he doesn’t fly abroad, then he is awful. If he does, then he is privileged, when so many people have not been allowed to see their family, during a pandemic.

  23. Gabby says:

I wonder if the queen is tired and handing off more control, decisions and communication to her courtiers than she should? It appears that she is either getting poor advice, or that she is no longer driving the train. And too proud to talk to her son about it.

  24. Over it says:

Oh no, the queen already had her letter drafted.oh plesaseeee, then why not send it before. And I thought she told him on the phone? These pictures can’t keep their lies straight. Also if the queen had already booked her commonwealth broadcast ages in advance, why are we only finding out about it now? Won’t bbc want to promote the heck out of that thing? Philip is old, he been alive for ever. No one lives till the end of time. Are they supposed to put their lives on hold until he croaks? That could take a few more years. And I highly doubt Charles is crying about him.people need to stop treating the queen like she is god, she bleeds like the rest of us, people don’t say no to the queen, the queen must have the last word. It’s utterly hilarious.
