Richard Kay: ‘Many inside royal circles refer icily to Meghan as ‘The American”

The British Royal family enjoys day 1 of Royal Ascot 2018

Richard Kay at the Daily Mail had a lengthy piece about the one-year review of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and how the Queen forced them out of their royal patronages last Friday. Kay, as many will remember, used to be Princess Diana’s favorite journalist, but after Diana’s death, Kay cozied up to Prince Charles and Prince William. In recent years, Kay’s articles have been calculated hit jobs and/or clean-up jobs for both William and Charles. Kay also has sources without Buckingham Palace too, of course. My point is that Kay gives competing royal courts an opportunity to trash each other. I also think that all of the royal courts are in agreement about the Sussexes, which is that H&M are to be blamed for everything under the sun, and that everything they do is always the worst. Some highlights from Kay’s piece:

The Queen indulged Harry: Over the past year, Harry has had more private conversations with the Queen than at any other time in his life. But none was more difficult than the one this week. Both were said to be saddened at its conclusion. For the Queen the sadness was, perhaps, even deeper. It was not just that so much promise was unfulfilled, but that all the affection and indulgence shown to Harry had been so spectacularly ignored — or even thrown back in her face.

So the Queen’s statement was about the Oprah interview? By choosing to sit down with Oprah Winfrey, Harry and Meghan have detonated a bombshell of their own by placing themselves in the hands of probably the most famous broadcaster on the planet. To the royals and their advisers, TV confessionals of the kind presided over by Ms Winfrey are not compatible with royal life and the privileges that go with it.

The Sussexes’ “service is universal” statement: ‘Outrageous,’ said one source. To another, it was ‘unconscionable’ of the couple to have had the last word. ‘It showed such disrespect,’ he said.

Harry’s determination to continue to serve: ‘Even after almost a year’s absence there was a sense they had not grasped the central issue that they could not be part-time royals, with one foot in and one foot out,’ says a long-time Palace adviser….Weeks before Harry made that call to his grandmother to tell her about the forthcoming interview, the Queen’s views about what it means to be a working royal had not changed. The costumes and privileges that go with it — such as laying a Cenotaph wreath, even remotely — can be available only to those who do the job on a full-time basis.

The Queen fundamentally believes she is the gatekeeper of service: She fervently hoped that the pull of those patronages he held, particularly the military ones, such as his figurehead role as Captain General of the Royal Marines, would be a compellingly strong draw for Harry to reconsider. In the end, he still thought he could have it both ways. Yesterday, the decisiveness of the Palace showed, finally, that he cannot.

The Palace courtiers won’t even call Meghan by her name or title: Pointedly, the Palace statement referred only to Harry — indicating perhaps that the duchess had no formal role in the talks that have been ongoing. No wonder, when many inside royal circles refer icily to Meghan as ‘The American’.

Harry is angry at his grandmother: Given Harry’s closeness to his grandmother, he will have been angered at the way he felt he was being treated by the Queen’s most senior aides. That is what triggered the couple’s extraordinary sharp response: ‘We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.’ Whatever pretence there had been until this point — that both sides were happy with the outcome — went up in a puff of smoke. Last night aides spoke of their shock at the tone of the couple’s response, viewing it as a rebuke to the Queen, even an insult. ‘They didn’t think to let the Queen have the last word,’ says one insider. ‘They didn’t think that with Prince Philip in hospital, she might have enough on her plate. And they didn’t think that there is a difference between charity and philanthropy and commitment to public duty. There is a world of difference: one is playing at it and one is doing it day after day, come rain or shine. By responding as they did, the duke and duchess are thumbing their noses. I think it could turn out to be a strategic mistake.’

Harry’s future in the monarchy: There is also the fact that however dismayed they are by Harry, he remains a uniquely important figure to the future of the monarchy. In the event of Charles and William both losing their lives — and, remember, they have both contracted Covid-19 — Harry would become regent to a young Prince George. Throughout the saga, Palace officials have been playing close attention to public reaction.

[From The Daily Mail]

“No wonder, when many inside royal circles refer icily to Meghan as ‘The American’.”
No wonder the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the Palace to kiss their ass. Of course the Windsors and their sycophants cannot even refer to Meghan by her title, or give a Black American woman any deference whatsoever. That was the problem all along. That is the very root of it.

Palace insider: “Even after almost a year’s absence there was a sense they had not grasped the central issue that they could not be part-time royals, with one foot in and one foot out.” I would argue that even after a year post-Sussexit, the palace has not grasped the fact that Harry and Meghan believe that service is not solely a royal thing, and that most people believe that every person, royal or not, can serve. Those musty old courtiers cannot wrap their heads around the concept that Harry and Meghan genuinely wanted to serve the UK, to serve their charities AND make money through private business ventures.

Here goes Richard Decay again trying to clean up on Aisle 4.

    • Harla says:

“ We have a desperation spill on aisle 4, repeat desperation spill on aisle 4, bring a big mop”

    • AnnaKist says:

One of the commercial TV stations had him on via satellite, to fo the Royal Roundup on their breakfast show. I will not watch commercial telly, with its unbridled sensationalism, poor journalism and mediocre anchors and others, yelling over the top of each other.

Ha! If Meghan they called her that, I can imagine her feelings. My mother-in-law called me “the Eye-talian”. I was always grateful that she lived in New Zealand. And we didn’t.

      • Amy Too says:

“We can icily and derisively refer to her as ‘the American’ behind her back and leak that information to the public so that she knows we won’t even deign to use her name, but Harry and Meghan saying ‘service is universal,’ is a direct snub to the Queen and we are aghast at the pettiness and scandalousness of his callousness!”

    • Ronaldinho says:

The Duke and Duchess left purely to get control of the media horror which they could never do as senior royals.
As senior royals they had to accept the Royal Rota of racist abusive press – as they were public figures, bought and paid for by Britain.
So they stepped back – only to get the media to stop and be afforded the privacy and accuracy a private person should enjoy.
They wanted to continue to serve, they wanted to be brilliant but the British media and the British Royal family could only throw them under a bus and watch as it drove over them. Their behaviour was disgusting.
Now instead of leaving a door open they have closed it shut on the Sussex family.
They don’t deserve Meghan or Harry and that petty note – it was a disgrace

      • UptownGirl says:

Yes!!! This!! It’s as if the Sussex family do not know how to perform duties, yet as they clearly wanted to stay within the patronage’s and work for TQ, for the lot of them to continue spewing hatred and constant pain speaks volumes as to why Harry and Meghan left!!
Petty Betty started her campaign of severing that so-called olive branch of hers when she denied Harry the opportunity of laying the wreath last year. Petty Betty had no intention of leaving a door open for both Harry and Meghan, just Harry.
As for their comment after TQ’s publication, also drives home how awful TQ, The Firm and the rest of these vile people are!! The RR’s love to get in and further the narrative to paint Harry and Meghan in the worst light possible but refuse to hold those accountable who continue to smear them.

    • 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼➕💯 Thank you so much, MERRY GIRLand HARLA for starting my week off with a laugh. Both those comments said it ALL in just a few words. Bravo.

      LOL!!!!

  2. OriginalLala says:

The idea that the BRF is in service all day everyday is laughable.. Is this the start of a media war about who is most charitable? Because, I hate to inform them, but there are tons of non-celebrity, and non-royals who literally dedicate their lives to helping others, they are the ones who lead lives of service.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

@OL quite right! What about a nurse? Is a nurse not in service every day of his/her life? Those in veteran affairs? Animal welfare? Drug and alcohol addiction? Elder care? The clergy? Do they think they understand service better than the clergy? Than medics? Better than those who have been on the frontline of Covid? Than those who deal with mental health?
Cancer research? Their level of navel-gazing and privilege is absolutely staggering.

    • Harper says:

Meanwhile, Kate has done three Zoom calls for the month of February. She hasn’t been seen since the second week of February.

    • LaraK says:

Well, H&M are getting paid! For services rendered! That is unacceptable! And plebeian!

If they wanted to be royal, then they should just change laws secretly, like Charles and the Queen, not work for money like peasants!

      /s

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Someone forgot to send Prince Michael of Kent, and the Earl of Snowden the memo about royals not being allowed to earn money, I guess.

Ditto Princess Michael, and Fergie… both out there writing books and shilling for Weight Watchers and everything else…

    • My Two Cents says:

‘ And they didn’t think that there is a difference between charity and philanthropy and commitment to public duty. There is a world of difference: one is playing at it and one is doing it day after day, come rain or shine. ‘ major eyeroll at this, so Harry and Meghan are only playing at it?? how insulting is that. No one is taking away from the Queen all her years of service, and no one is comparing that H&M are better (though they probably are), so surely there is room for everyone to do good?

      • one of the Marys says:

I see the royal family as playing at it and Harry and Meghan doing it day after day. This contrast was so obvious to everyone including William and Kate that they had to get rid of them.

      • Couch potato says:

Ohh, yeah! Will and Kate are doing it day after day after day.. between ALL the trips to exotic islands, skiing trips and rose trimming.

      • Sandra says:

I’m pretty sure ‘Mr. and Mrs. Three Zoom Calls a Month Is A Lot of Work’ aka ‘the Duke and Duchess of Luxury Train Joy Rides During a Deadly Pandemic’ are the ones who are playing at it.

    • Amy Too says:

It’s such a stupid thing to say in defense of the BRF because it is patently not true. Anyone can look up the court circular or follow the royals through the media or social media and see that they are NOT all doing something all day, every day. There are days when none of the many of them have anything on their calendars. And there is not a single one of them that works every single day, all day.

They seem to be trying to argue that just existing as a royal is somehow fulfilling their heavy burden of duty. Just being addressed as Your Majesty or Duchess is somehow more important and makes a bigger difference than actually charity work and philanthropy. What a stupid pissing contest to get into, especially when your argument relies on the semantics of duty vs. charity work vs. philanthropy. Knock it off, royals and royal reporters, you sound drunk. Go home and sleep it off.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I was never super into the royal family…but all of this NONSENSE has made me see them as something malevolent. The idea that she lives a life of service like Mother Teresa is absurd. Drawing the line in the sand about Harry and Meghan, while letting Andrew be a perv all over the globe is just too much.

    • Elizabeth Phillips says:

This slayed me, “And they didn’t think that there is a difference between charity and philanthropy and commitment to public duty. There is a world of difference: one is playing at it and one is doing it day after day, come rain or shine.” But it’s correct. Most of the BRF (in particular Will and Kate) play at it, while Harry and Meghan are doing it every day, rain or shine. Or Texas-sized blizzard.

  3. Carrie says:

Not a worry. We call them the mediocre in breds and we say it with derision. You’re welcome.

    • Myra says:

That “special relationship”, huh? I wonder how their American fans feel. Then again, white supremacy is one hell of a drug.

    • Jess says:

They can belittle americans all they want. It doesnt change the fact that damp racist island is going to kiss our asses anyway for a good trade deal AND culturally annexing it in the process.

      • Lindsay says:

Please. Britain has been forced to beg America for crumbs and kiss our ass since the Nazis reached Belgium, and we culturally annexed them sometime in the Reagan administration. These facts make up a significant portion of why many Brits (including most of the “aristocracy”) resent the crap out of us. Meghan was the unlucky repository of a whole lot of pent-up anti-American resentment.

  4. Lauren says:

Ah yes. Keep digging that grave deeper. The monarchy doesn’t really have that much longer left.

  5. Ang says:

That’s odd, because she (not I) refer to them as nothing at all. And I guess that’s what stings.

  6. Seraphina says:

I believe it. I can see them sipping tea and saying it as they refer to Meghan as The American. But I am sure they call her far worse behind closed bedroom doors since they are racists and have shown their true selves over and over again.
Exactly this Kaiser, the Courtiers and the BRF cannot wrap their small minds around the facts that H&M wanted to to serve and set an example. Their loss.

  7. S808 says:

Bitter bitter bitter. It’s drips off the page. Yeah “The American” and her husband successfully out maneuvered ALL of them and continue to do so.

Half in and half out was absolutely feasible, it just wasn’t advantageous for the RF because H&M would continue to overshadow them all with less constraints.

    • Brit says:

They’re so angry that Harry and Meghan are done and will live on their own terms. Not to mention they have a media that is still obsessing and stalking them and bothering the family for leaks etc.

    • deering24 says:

Yep. For cryin’ out loud, feuding five-year-olds could have come up with a working compromise here. The RF never ever felt they had to.

    • Amy Too says:

And they keep trying to say that Harry and Meghan didn’t get that they couldn’t have it all at the same time, like they honestly didn’t comprehend that they couldn’t live completely in the US making all kinds of money and yet somehow get all the royal perks of military appointments, patronages, royal social media branding, tiaras and HRHs, etc. The Sussexes UNDERSTAND that concept. They might not like it, or agree with it, or find it fair, but it’s not like don’t “get it.”

They were willing to give all those things up if they were being forced to, and they made their choice. I think they probably knew they weren’t going to be able to keep the military appointments and the patronages, but they also didn’t want to be the ones to pull the plug and say they were stepping down from those things, because honestly, they didn’t want to to step down. That was a decision that was forced on them and they weren’t going to make it easy for the BRF by preemptively quitting their patronages just so that the media could write articles about how the mean Sussexes were abandoning their charities. Especially when the Queen made a big show about how they could keep their patronages originally.

  8. RoyalBlue says:

I am just here to say that I love your counterarguments Kaiser.

  9. I pet goat 2 says:

It is baffling. Just BAFFLING to me how myopic and small minded these people must be. How stuck in 1850 they are. How far removed from the lives 90 percent of us lead they are.
As a young person born after 1990 and growing up in our global world, I want to say that we date and love internationally. We date and love and hang out no matter the gender, sexuality, race. We respect the nation state only to the extent that we love our multiplicities, the beauty in our diversity, the cultural traditions we hone and admire as long as they are based in fairness – but not as a means of segregating us from our fellow humans.
We must remember that while the brf Is a very egregious example, most of these institutions that are old and have held power for a long time are similarly past their prime date. They also don’t reflect our societies, our needs, our beliefs – thus their usefulness must be questioned.

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

@1petgoat2….Your post is such a signal lesson…..a message directly from the Millennials and Gen Z generation…..the kind of information & POV that marketeers and politicians/leaders wd kill to hv. Pity the brf and their lackies dont seem to understand that this generation brings with it a paradigm shift, so those dinosaurs will continue applying their old strategies to their peril.

      These 2 sentences in particular:
“As a young person born after 1990 and growing up in our global world, I want to say that we date and love internationally. We date and love and hang out no matter the gender, sexuality, race. We respect the nation state only to the extent that we love our multiplicities, the beauty in our diversity, the cultural traditions we hone and admire as long as they are based in fairness – but not as a means of segregating us from our fellow humans.”

The demographic that the brf and their lackies appeal to is in the twilight and sunset of their life. Both Gen Z, Millennials AND THE 1% recognize no borders!!!!! And they are the future.

The RF and their lackies will fail to learn that lesson to their peril.

    • Nyro says:

Thank you! Like, do the royals and their courtiers not know any regular millennial and gen z folk?! The British upper classes must truly live the most insular lives, because the way they are just so appalled and scandalized by Harry “taking up with” an American WOC actress and activist is utterly ridiculous. Their racism is ridiculous. Their sexism is ridiculous. Their anti-American attitudes are ridiculous.

  10. Shoo fly says:

Is the Windsors’ ongoing refusal to wear masks a symbol of their dedication to public duty and how it “isn’t a game?” Is the Windsors’ breaches of England and Scotland’s COVID-19 regulations? Is the Queen’s utter refusal to be shown in a mask part of that, too?

    • Keroppi says:

Especially since masks are to protect others. Thumbing their nose a the health and safety of the plebians. Also, really terrible optics.

  11. Annalise says:

As much as it (almost literally) pains me to see H&M continue to be treated this way, I’ve come to be of the opinion that anything that continues to expose how nasty and malicious the RF is, is a good thing. I hope they continue to show the world just how petty, out of touch, entitled and antiquated they are. The worse they continue to act, the sooner their demise. And once QE dies, I believe the RF will find themselves in a precarious position indeed.
I often hear arguments that the RF is “good for tourism”. Well France got rid of their own RF hundreds of years ago, and they get more tourists every year than any other country in the WORLD. If the British RF finally gets the boots, UK tourism will do JUST fine.

    • SarahCS says:

I agree, this is showing them for who they truly are and the more traction it gains beyond the royalist echo chambers the more the general population will question they this ridiculous institution still exists. Come on free press, keep reporting please.

  12. Sofia says:

I can believe that courtiers and aristos hate Meghan. For centuries, the royal/aristo circles have been predominantly white and here comes a biracial woman from America became a Duchess which means she’s right at the top of titles hierarchy and she’s a HRH too.

And instead of spending 20 years and counting trying to kiss their asses for acceptance like her sister-in-law, she makes no effort to gain their acceptance and instead says “see ya” to a life that is considered the top of British Society and has many grovelling at the gates for acceptance by them.

    • Talia says:

Ask the Marchioness of Bath – her MIL apparently had *views* on a mixed race DIL and her mother was a British aristocrat so Emma Thynn had the connections Meghan didn’t have.

    • VS says:

“And instead of spending 20 years and counting trying to kiss their asses for acceptance like her sister-in-law, she makes no effort to gain their acceptance and instead says “see ya” to a life that is considered the top of British Society and has many grovelling at the gates for acceptance by them.”

      Exactly! 10000000% agree
Meghan didn’t beg for their approval; Meghan didn’t think even for a second one of them is superior to her
This video of James O’brien https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3UsbAjsY7o&feature=emb_logo speaks to that! intellectually she is miles ahead of some of them; that must hurt!

  13. Xantha says:

Imagine thinking being born to a life of unchecked wealth and privilege, where you have access to literal palaces, billions of dollars in jewelry, exempt from the FOI Act so no one can truly look into your finances, and having the taxpayer pay for it all is “public service” just because you have to support some charities and foundations in return.

Prince Harry really does have the brains in that family huh?

    • Dee Kay says:

It took H&M’s departure and the idiotic responses from the Royal Family for me to realize that Harry has the only brains in the bunch. I think Charles is intellectually capable but emotionally so stunted it’s truly remarkable. I think Diana was extremely emotionally intelligent, with compassion and empathy and the power to communicate being her truly great gifts, but definitely less of an intellectual (she was plenty smart, though, and much more naturally intelligent than the press or Charles gave her credit for, she just wasn’t very well-educated in her youth). But only Harry, of all of them, has both intellectual and emotional intelligence. He got the best of both of his parents, which makes him truly formidable (and a fantastic match for Meghan, who also has both very high IQ and EQ).

  14. STRIPE says:

The Sussexes’ “service is universal” statement: ‘Outrageous,’ said one source. To another, it was ‘unconscionable’ of the couple to have had the last word. ‘It showed such disrespect,’ he said.

How?? This is madness to me. I truly do not understand. People other than the BRF serve/volunteer/donate every day.

    • Snuffles says:

Apparently, NO ONE contradicts the Queen! She is the beginning, the middle and the end! She is the final and the ONLY word!

      🙄🙄🙄🙄

    • Ginger says:

The couriers are incredibly tone deaf. They had no idea how awful that statement was (in the middle of a pandemic) until there was push back from the public. The Sussex’s statement was perfect and I am glad they put it out. These are the same people that thought Andrews interview went well until the public push back. They are too stupid to function.
I’m glad Harry and Meghan don’t have to deal with these idiots again.

    • Couch potato says:

Had the BP been smart, they could have stated that H&M would still support the charities in a privat capacity. And saved themselves from this embarrasment.

      • Exactly, Couch Potato. It’s like the 👑🤡s constantly insist on putting their foot in their mouth and keeping it there! One decent, coordinated PR PRO could handle this BS with their eyes closed. Like having too many cooks in the kitchen, it shows the 👑 has too many egos screaming to be heard in their hatred of Meghan. Next level shit is going to be all about ramping up their assaults on Harry to get him to leave Meghan.

      • HK9 says:

@ Couch potato, The courtiers commitment to ineptitude prevent them from from doing so

    • Nina says:

I thought this too – there is some deep embedded code in those words – on the surface a ‘normal’ would think, oh, how nice!
And in terms of ‘duty and service’ – I will put my volunteer club friends up against any of these people any day of the week.

  15. aquarius64 says:

The American huh? If that is brought up in Oprah’s interview that will go over like a lead balloon in the States.

    • Over it says:

It’s funny to me that they. Want to mend fences with America after trump behavior and yet they don’t mind it being known that the first biracial American to Marry into that family they couldn’t respect. Not even to call her by her name. Spread the word Americans . Let your fellow country men know how the British monarchy feels about you.

  16. Alexandria says:

    Can’t stop talking eh Richard?

  17. sara says:

Lmao at these idiots and all their minions in England who actually think the royals perform some sort of “public service” as if they would do that even if their entire lives and their many palaces and legions of staff members and sycophants weren’t paid with the blood of the people they colonized and taxpayers.

    • Ginger says:

All they do is Zoom meetings to thank front line workers for their service. How interesting! Thanking others for doing public service.

      • Lindsay says:

My husband mows the yard each week, and afterward I thank him for doing it. According to the BRF’s calculus, that means I actually mowed the yard myself, at great personal sacrifice.

  18. Merricat says:

Lol. I hope they DO call her The American. She’s ours, and we’re proud of it. And now Harry is ours, as well.

    • JT says:

So much for the special relationship between the US and the UK. Now we know that the royals hate Americans. Isn’t Biden supposed to be coming soon? I know he has bigger problems than the royals, but this is not a good look. People are paying attention and we know that VP Harris’ niece is.

      • Ann says:

Biden is a dear man who doesn’t hate a soul, but he’s tough too. He doesn’t care what they think of him and if anyone is rude he will just keep smiling and shaking hands (or elbow bumping) and being nice. They’ll probably talk smack about him behind his back because he’s Irish, too. Let them talk.

      • Dee Kay says:

Biden is a professional and doesn’t let his personal identifications or preferences get in the way of his job, but I always remember when the BBC asked him a question during the elections, he said, “I’m Irish.” Meaning, he wouldn’t take one of the BBC’s questions, because he’s Irish, not British, and many Irish have a deep-seated loathing of Ireland’s colonizer. It’s the closest I ever saw Biden come to adversarial (and it was so minor, and teasing, but still…that was a real sentiment). He will go visit the Queen and do his job to be sure, but he will not be dazzled by the British monarchy one bit. He knows his Irish history.

  19. Snuffles says:

They’re just “playing at it”!? SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!????? Are they fucking kidding! Harry and Meghan are the ONLY royals who can actually produce REAL results with their charitable support.

Just because the Queen can boast about having hundreds of charities she’s a patron of, doesn’t mean she’s made any REAL difference in any of them. It’s just busy work. People are analyzing and crunching the numbers lately and it show they have no affect.

Now maybe the Queen has convinced herself that what she does actually makes a difference. Maybe her courtiers have been blowing smoke up her ass for decades. It would be a bitter pill to swallow that she ultimately really hasn’t made much of a difference for the UK and the Commonwealth. Honestly, I think that has been the case after WWII ended. The royal family post war has just been the world’s longest running soap opera.

    • Ginger says:

      Agreed Snuffles

      • JT says:

The way I see it, all of the royals are part time because they all make money from their roles. As you all have mentioned the queen has her gin, Charles has his various grocery items from the duchy, Andrew was literally taking a cut from his pitch palace initiative. The may work hard for royals but in comparison to the real world, I bet they don’t even work for half the days in the year. What H&M offered was no different than any of the other royals including the queen. She was making money during the pandemic by setting up the drive thru movie theater on Sandringham!

  20. Brit says:

These people are stupid 😂 Thanks for proving Harry and Meghan’s point to leave, lol. These commentators and “experts “ will be the detriment of that entire monarchy. Sometimes I wonder if they say these things on purpose to keep the royals in line because this is pathetic. Yes, we won’t be racist to her but xenophobic and disrespectful. All these people are stupid. And the wanna talk about PR…

    • Amy Too says:

And for a palace that is supposedly very anxious about being accused of racism and sexism during the Oprah interview, leaking that you disrespect the biracial American woman so much that you want everyone to know you erase her name at every opportunity (birth certificate, too, remember) by “icily” referring to her as “the American,” does not make me think that you are the type of institution that wouldn’t be racist or sexist. You are literally bragging about your xenophobia, but we’re supposed to believe you’re too classy to be racist or sexist?

  21. bitsycs says:

That petty B and the rest of the Firm think service is being an in name only patron, like that does anything. Maybe this whole wow they insulted the queen flies in England but in the rest of the world, everyone sees what happened here and the BRF looks awful. So good work.

  22. Yoyo says:

Wonder why in the last year the Queen spent more time talking to Harry than in all the previous years.
She would not stoop so low to be dangling the military patronages for Harry to abandon his wife and child, she is called bitter Betty for a reason.
21st century, days of the Queen getting the last word are over.
It is all about control, and the Royal family and their boot-lickers are now beginning to realize they can’t mute the Sussexes anymore.

    • Snuffles says:

Exactly! The Queen only decided to be a grandmother in the past year? That’s after avoiding talking to him about his growing concerns and the treatment of his wife?

And I guess this confirms they truly did think they could lure him back with his honorary military titles and patronages. And the fact that these patronages were not kept in the loop just demonstrates how they are just pawns in the royal game.

      • Well, SNUFFLES, what grown man — who has served 2 tours of duty at the front in Afghanistan —- wouldn’t give up his wife and baby just so he can wear honorary uniforms and salute the troops? Really, the Queen really thought that is the hill Harry’s marriage would die on? Harry’s activism for military families and vets is so amazing. He doesn’t need honorary titles / uniforms to continue his global support of the troops.

    • Ginger says:

I don’t think she has. I think it’s to counter the leak that Harry couldn’t get a hold of her and had to wait 30 days to get an appointment. That made her look really bad. I don’t think she has talked to Harry much at all. I think he has mostly talked to her staff regarding the review.

    • Amy Too says:

She apparently spoke to him so little during his life that she has spoken to him more in the past year than in the past several years—despite him being constantly rebuffed, having difficulty getting hold of her or on her schedule, and her WRITING HIM A LETTER rather than calling him to let him know about the patronages—and yet they want us to believe that he is poorly repaying the love and affection she has invested in him?

None of this makes them look good! She hardly spoke to him for years, she only speaks to him now because she’s pissed at him and wants to communicate his punishments, and yet she thinks she has shown him a great deal of love and affection throughout his life to the point where he OWES HER a life of servitude to pay back the love a grandma showed her grandson (when she spoke to him. Which was rarely.)

      • Nyro says:

Yeah, I’m starting to think that whole “Harry’s her favorite grandchild” thing is yet another lie. I think Harry became her “favorite” about 15 years ago when polls started to show he was consistently the mist popular royal outside of herself. Like, have we ever seen them hanging out?

  23. Ann says:

They are so gobsmacked and salty about Harry not “letting” the Queen get “the last word.” Because she’s been such a devoted Granny to him and hey, she’s old and SHE’S The Queen so how dare he have something to say about being insulted. That, and suggesting he hasn’t lived up to his “promise.” He’s the best of the bunch, pity they can’t see that.

What an absolute cow she is.

  24. Emily says:

Think of the is as a breakup. The royal family is a dumpee who is used to always being in control and is now complaining about Meghan to anyone who will listen, calling up her friends, employers etc. She’s moved on and they can’t let go. It’s pathetic and abusive.

  25. Elizabeth says:

Day after day, huh? Remind me again how many MONTHS of vacation the queen and her children take per year? How few engagements Kate and Will even do? And their “service” is mostly cutting ribbons.

    • Keroppi says:

      Number of engagments:
      1. Get on plane
      2. Ride on plane
      3. Get off plane
      4. Shake hands (pre-COVID)
      5. Walk down carpet to car
      6. Get in car
      7. Get out of car (don’t close own door though, that is against protocol and invalidates the engagement)
      8. Attend visit to centre
      9. Smile and nod politely
      10. Pretend to listen
      11. Get back in car

That is a lot of work! Look how many engagements they could have just in one day!! So many, so hard working!!

  26. Eva says:

Oh come on, we know they use a lot of racial slur to refer to her in secret.

    • Jay says:

My thoughts exactly, Eva, I’m sure the American is just the only name that can go to print.

I would also have guessed that “the actress” would be considered more insulting, having, y’know, connotations if actual work, kinda like how AOC is always reminded about her past job as a bartender.

      • deering24 says:

Essentially, they are calling her a hooker. Back in the Victorian Age, actresses and prostitutes were regarded as pretty much the same decidedly-unrespectable thing. One would have thought that attitude was long-dead, but…🤮🤮

  27. Jay says:

I think that anybody who could refer to Harry, with all he’s done over the past decade or so, as “promise unfulfilled” doesn’t get it and will never get it.

It’s not the Sussexes who are struggling to understand this situation, it’s the royals and their courtiers who could never understand giving up what they themselves most value: the social and financial privilege gained by proximity to the queen.

I think they never truly believed Harry would leave, that he would come crawling back to the U.K. after failing to thrive on his own (and also that he would somehow leave Meghan and baby Archie in America and go back to being “happy Harry”, but that’s a whole other story).

The courtiers leaking these stories have probably spent their lives trying to get inside this royal circle, getting closer to the centre of power that is the queen. Admitting that Harry, who was born in to this privilege they have worked so hard to get close to, wants to leave might be sort of like admitting that you’ve spent your own life in meaningless pursuit.

  28. MerryGirl says:

They always tell on themselves. The Queen dangling Harry’s military appointments for a year in the hope that he would crave those honors more than the mental health and protection of his wife and child is so gross. And ‘playing at it’? The Royals have hundreds of charities and not one can show a tangible money making outcome from their association with the BRF. An occasional visit for a photo op or an unveiling of a plaque does not a charity make. Cannot’s and Fiesta’s charities suffered losses or shut down and one in particular did not get a visit in 8 years. Meanwhile Meghan in 1 year was able to produce mega fundraising for Hubb Kitchen, Smart Works, Mayhew, Luminary, etc. Small wonder they were all dancing that she remains their patron.

    • Keroppi says:

What’s sad is they thought that that was an enticing and valid choice. This means that someone in the palace would have chosen this.

  29. Soupie says:

This reminds me of the southerners who fly the Confederate flag. They just never got over history. Now they whine and cry and wave their flags and guns just like some British snipe about Americans. Do we care?? Do I care as an American what these stick up the arse feeble brain unwarranted arrogant Brits think of me as an American? Hell no.

    “The American.” 🙄🙄🙄

    • Bloemheks says:

Those are the same Americans who love the Queen and hate Harry and Meghan. It would be comical if it wasn’t so sad.

  30. SarahCS says:

Maybe if TQ didn’t always need to have the last word she would be a better monarch.

We call her Petty Betty for a reason.

  31. Lanie says:

If Queenie was so worried about Phillip, she wouldn’t have wasted precious time trying to strip the Sussexes of patronages before the Oprah interview.

    • And yet, —- it has been reported —- that the Queen (nor any member of her family) has even visited Phillip in hospital. However, their behavior is somehow showing a level of care for Phillip, but Harry is the one causing her deep pain over this issue. Give me a break. Do these 🤡s even read each other’s BS.

      • Zaya says:

Charles visited Phillip last weekend. And half of Twitter was pissed because they can’t see their loved ones in the hospital and the other half was saying that Phillip was at death’s door that’s why Charles was visiting (and pictured crying) and the death announcement was imminent.

      • Elizabeth Phillips says:

Prince Charles visited him over the weekend.

  32. Lizzie says:

Stupid of the queen. She might disrespect her family but shouldn’t allow her employees to do so. It’s a slippery slope, who will her employees go after next?

  33. Becks1 says:

well, this part just confirms that the queen’s statement did mean exactly what we all thought it meant:

” they didn’t think that there is a difference between charity and philanthropy and commitment to public duty. There is a world of difference: one is playing at it and one is doing it day after day, come rain or shine. ”

The queen thinks that all philanthropists or people who do charity work are “playing at it” while she does it day after day. does what, exactly? smiles and waves and greets people? I know that can mean a lot to people, but lets not pretend thats better than someone who is using their money and influence for change.

    • Xantha says:

It’s amazing really. That statement has a way to insult everyone: From the nontitled rich people who hold fundraisers and donate money every year to various organizations to nontitled nonrich people who dedicate their lives to helping their communities without the expectation of even so much of a “Thank you.” So meaning Bill and Melinda Gates, Mackenzie Scott, Greta Thunberg and every frontline worker and BLM activist, literally anyone working in a nonprofit would be well in their rights in giving the BRF a giant middle finger for acting like true service is something only royals can do.

And let’s be honest here: We all know they don’t just refer to Meghan as “The American” in private.

      • Amy Too says:

I think it’s also insulting to the people who like to show up to see the monarch or the RF, along with the patronages they work with. They see their waving and visiting as some heavy burden of duty that’s weighing them down but that they struggle through day after day anyways because they don’t think they have a choice. How special do you now feel if you’re a royal supporter who shows up for the walk abouts? How supported do you feel if you’re one of the royal patronages learning that your patron only comes out of a sense of begrudging duty. As if it’s a big sacrifice for them to come and smile and have their picture taken. They can’t stop insulting everyone. It’s getting crazy.

  34. MsIam says:

The queen is a bitter old hypocrite. And what type of “grandmother” lets her grandson and family be be tortured by the press? Well, she’s got her dear Andrew to comfort her. I’m sure she’ll be fine soon.

  35. Mina_Nur says:

I’m laughing so hard at the queen thinking that she is the gatekeeper of service, or that “public duty” of a Royal is superior to the work of philanthropists that do the work without expecting financial gain in return lol Or the idea that we can call Kate a full time Royal when she barely breaks 100 on her public service calendar. That would be like me going into work once or twice a week. I think that’s called casual part-time, so it CAN be done lol

  36. MellyMel says:

Let’s be real…”The American” is probably the nicest thing those ppl refer to her as. Also, does the Queen not understand that anyone can serve, volunteer or even donate money to charity. Us regular ppl do it everyday. It might not be on the same scale, but this isn’t something only reserved for royalty.

  37. DS9 says:

Imagine being this offended by someone saying that service is universal.

It really tells you all you need to know, doesn’t it? Instead of being happy that these two still view their role in the world as one of service and meaningful help, they’re upset because these two won’t do it within their decayed system.

    Oh

  38. lanne says:

Prince Andrew is still an HRH, beloved member of that “family of public service.” That passel of racist aristo-royal bigots need to sit their pasty asses down.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

….and he is “retired” from royal duties thanks to the Epstein scandal. He is not even a part-time royal and yet he has lost none of his many privileges.

      • lanne says:

They should give Harry’s patronages to Andrew. It would be the most honest thing for them to do

  39. Harper says:

Philip walked into the hospital the day after the statements were made, so stop with the disrespect to the Queen while Philip is in the hospital line.

  40. Ferchi says:

I am very happy they left the “firm” to live their life in their own terms but I do think their last statement was unnecessary and sounded petty.
Sorry I might be bias, I had a grandmother that I loved even though we didn’t have the same opinion about many things. I respected her for what she meant in my life. It sounded petty.
Also sending a statement like this was going to get the reaction it got, it’s provocative.
In this case I would have take the high road and keep doing all the wonderful things I am doing as a public figure. Don’t give more wood to the fire.

    • Pétulia says:

Don’t see it as a rebuke to the queen but to the aides.
And why is it always to the child to keep appearance and show respect ? The statement from the queen was and absolute dig at H&M

    • MsIam says:

Sorry but the queen was the one being petty and high handed. The palace statement was meant to put the Sussexes in their place and punish them. The smart thing to do would have been to let Harry and Meghan release their statement first. And honestly I wonder if that wasn’t the original plan, that the Sussexes would announce they were no longer able to serve in the roles but would continue to support however they could because #serviceisuniversal. All of this could have been avoided if the palace minions weren’t so intent on punishing the Sussexes, all over an interview.

    • Beach Dreams says:

They’re only giving back the energy they received from the Queen. Pity that she and her courtiers couldn’t bring themselves to conduct that statement with the dignity her position supposedly holds.

    • one of the Marys says:

I think their statement/reply was necessary because the queen’s statement was in the public domain and they are building their careers around philanthropy. they had to respond publicly or see her take the legs out from under Archewell

    • Nyro says:

Nope. This is 2021 and we believe in keeping the same energy. The queen’s statement about public service was petty and designed to humiliate the Sussexes and diminish their hard work. They defended themselves and their reputation with the same amount of force. She oughta be glad they didn’t say more than that. And if she had any sense, she”d keep their names out of her mouth from now on.

  41. thaisajs says:

I always thought Harry was a bit dim, but he turns out to be smarter than them all. He has a smart, talented wife, a mansion by the ocean, a growing family, plenty of money in the bank. And now he’s free to do almost anything he wants.

Someone is losing here, but it ain’t the Sussex’s.

    • Snuffles says:

That was the spin the RRs were giving Harry his whole life. The not so bright, irresponsible, fun loving playboy. While William was the intelligent, serious one.

When the truth is, they were both party boys. But Harry spent more time developing and working on charities while William played at his military commitments and air ambulance job.

I do think Harry might be dyslexic but that don’t make him stupid. He was always focused, dedicated and hard working. Meghan coming into the picture just supercharged his abilities.

      • Maccs says:

        A few tidbits, Snuffles.

First of, Harry really is dyslexic. More on that in a minute.

The truth is that William was spoiled hideously as a kid. He could be an outright bully and nobody would make him straighten up and fly right. He picked on Harry when they were kids, Harry would stand up to him- BAM! Right in the old lobanza. But HARRY would get in trouble. Every resource was always poured into the HEIR at the expense of the SPARE. When the Queen Mother was alive, she would let Will sit next to her and banish Harry from the room. He was not important enough. QE2 did similar things while they were at Eton. Charlie boy was almost never home and no matter what Harry did, well, it was like a test pony being set against a prized race horse: there only for the benefit of another, and often forced to lose.

I have it on good authority that Diana noticed her son was having trouble reading….but nobody really did anything about it. THAT IS THE REAL REASON HE FLUNKED AT ETON. The morons in the palace didn’t want anybody to think anyone in the direct line COULD have a condition where messages between eyes and brain could go haywire. (Meanwhile, CHARLES HAS THE SAME CONDITION. YEAH. THAT IS THE F’ED UP LOGIC WE ARE DEALING WITH, FOLKS.) They sent him to a school that had no resources for learning disabilities at the time, and predictably, he flunked. And everyone back home put him down for being stupid.

It is no wonder he is in therapy-years of emotional abuse. It is not all that big a wonder he found a kindred soul in Meghan: her father screams, “Kiss me, I am a textbook case of NPD!” They ran away together and Meg was the one who gave him the push he needed to separate from his abusers. She took away their scapegoat. And she is black and does not tick any goddamn box they have. She is supposed to be “unworthy”, as some radio man has recently said.

But she showed him more love and care than any of them ever had by caring about him for him, at least as far as we can tell. (Even if she is a bitch in real life to others, well, I doubt living with Tom Markle has made her completely sane and emotionally healthy: Look up C-PTSD. One flavor of it has the afflicted behaving like a narc, imitating their abuser when triggered as a way to scare off people and mirror the abuse. People who have had NPD parents are VERY susceptible to getting C-PTSD, and with the past two years she has had to go through, I think we have a winner.)

Harry now has everything Will could want. My my my, looks like the Chosen One has to learn a hard lesson……

  42. Cecilia says:

They probably calling her the N word

  43. ABritGuest says:

I hope American royalists, networks& donors know that people working for the firm appear to have disdain for Americans.. if we accept xenophobia is at the root of the issue with Meghan & not racism too…

They really could have just thanked H&M for past service& said the military associations etc are for working members of the royal family & wish them well. They had a year to get tone right. Honestly comes across like the pregnancy announcement ended hopes for Harry to return alone (as Christopher Wilson suggested was the point of the review) and the firm just moved hastily to the next step.

Also H&M said service (not public service) is universal which is true. Haven’t the royals spent the pandemic thanking volunteers for their service etc- wasn’t that the point of the covid express tour? So it’s dumb they are saying it was a rebuke to the queen but meat to their readers etc I guess.

  44. Amy Bee says:

Was it Richard Kay’s objective to make the Royal Family look good with this article? Because it was, he failed miserably. If the Royal family is going to be briefing against Harry and Meghan in the press then the Sussexes have every right to talk about everything that happened to them in their interview with Oprah. I hope they do because the Royal Family are just terrible people.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Kay is one of the weirder ones in the royal rota IMO. He’s as repulsive as the rest of them but he has a certain slyness when writing these pieces. It’s like he deliberately puts the RF in the worst light (not that much help is needed there…) and stands back to watch the fireworks. He definitely doesn’t like W or H, and yet W still goes to him for cleanup. Kay is the one who essentially blew up what was supposed to be a non-story with Kate and Rose’s fall out.

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah I get Kay and Eden confused lol, but Kay is the one who stands out to me as being kind of snarky but for some reason William keeps going to him. I think he’s also the one who wrote an article about how horrible the Tatler cover story was last spring, in which he quoted every snarky comment from the Tatler story and expounded on it (I think it was you BeachDreams but could be wrong – who pointed out that Kay made clear that the reference to diana’s eating disorder in comparison to Kate was also a reference to William being unfaithful).

So I cant figure out why William keeps running to him, unless william is too dumb to read between the lines.

      • Kay was Diana’s go to press boy. Diana always did have the worst taste in men!

  45. Shoo fly says:

The number of lies the sycophantic British press has allowed the Queen and her family to get away with for a century, including bangers like “the stress of becoming king killed her father” – I didn’t know that lung cancer in a lifelong heavy smoker was caused by abdication stress – the idea that she doesn’t love being queen and being worshipped – one of the most damaging big lies in British society today. She lives in a palace. She personally owns some of the world’s most expensive horses. A life of public service and duty my behind.

  46. Osty says:

We loved and welcomed you Meghan so much we called you megain, degree wife , difficult and the American. And we made sure we told our media friends that

    • MerryGirl says:

And don’t forget “that girl”. Also bear in mind that this is what they said publicly so one can only imagine what they said privately about a smart, liberal and wait for it…. black woman.

    • GrnieWnie says:

I worked for a British guy and I swear he used this exact line on me. The company was refusing to meet the terms of the contract I signed with them. He sorted it out. Later, we had a disagreement. He told me, “We [the company] showed you care. We welcomed you. We did all this for you. And look at how you’ve treated us.” I’m like, “what, I disagreed with you? And your care/concern was…actually meeting the terms of our contract?” These people want an effing medal for performing at the lowest level. Then they turn around and cut you so hard when you don’t smile after they’ve backhanded you across the face.

      • Ann says:

I don’t want to diss British people, I know there are many of them on here and you all seem lovely. I have British friends whom I think are great too. But it does seem like the class system there is more…..pervasive and entrenched and insidious than it is here? America has classism, no doubt, and culture wars, but they don’t manifest in the workplace quite so much. My husband is a lawyer at a big firm and he and all his partners will tell you that while they do care about grades and law school performance, the ones who thrive at work are not the ones who come from elite schools and backgrounds, but the ones from modest means and/or state schools who are hungry to get ahead and don’t feel entitled. If you do your job well, no one cares who your parents were or whether you went to a posh boarding school.

From what I’ve been told by British friends and Americans who have worked there, that isn’t the case in England. One friend who spent the first three years of her career at an English company in London had a really good friend who was smart as Hell, had a good personality, had gone to Oxford, but was from a working class background and had a Manchester accent. Her English co-workers froze him out socially, and she thought it was so weird.

  47. FancyPants says:

Is Meghan supposed to find being called American an insult? That’s probably the nicest word they use for her. Do they call Autumn Phillips “the Canadian?” Gah so juvenile.

  48. HeatherC says:

Did anyone inform Walmart and Kmart about this?: “There is a world of difference: one is playing at it and one is doing it day after day, come rain or shine”

    Day after day, hmmm?

Also, Petty Betty, go play your golden piano while UNICEF feeds your country’s children like Britain was a 3rd world country.

  49. Nina says:

Harry and Meghan don’t even need that Oprah itw. The royal family will destroy itself.
Who told them it was a good look to have xenophobic courtiers speaking for them?
Oops the royal family is xenophobic too

  50. 809Matriarch says:

“Confessionals… not compatible with royal life and the privileges…”

Seriously? What privileges? Seems to me royal life is full of paradoxes, depending on your place in the pecking order.

  51. Snappyfish says:

Harry would not be the regent to George unless it had been written that way in Williams will. The Seymours (non royals) were regents to Edward when Henry 8th died. Seriously they just make this crap up

    • CC2 says:

I may be wrong but I was having this conversation with a friend the other day, and I believe there’s a law passed and that Harry is automatically the regent as for now, as long as he lives in the UK for some amount of time. I remember reading up on that specific law. It used to be dependent on the actual royal in question like you said but in recent history, the regent will automatically be the next adult in line who lives in the Uk or something like that.

    • windyriver says:

Look up the information on Counsellors of State.

      • lanne says:

So essentially George’s regent would be Andrew? Got it!

      • windyriver says:

No, as I understand it, it’s Harry, assuming he meets the definition of “domiciled in the UK”. We’ve discussed this here before, but I forget the reason one of the commentators remarked Harry still met that requirement. And it appears from Kay’s comment that Harry is still considered part of the equation right now.

But yes, Andrew is next in line after Harry as potential regent.

    • anotherlily says:

A regent is always the next adult in the line of succession. This applies for a monarch who is underage or who is incapable, for any reason, of carrying out their duties. Charles is the regent for his mother and has temporarily taken over during times she has been in hospital. The only exception was when Prince Philip was made designated regent for Prince Charles, instead of Princess Margaret who was the next adult in the line of succession. This required a special Act of Parliament.

In the event of George becoming King when he is under 18 the Regent would be Harry but Parliament could agree to appoint another Regent, probably Edward since Andrew would not be acceptable.

  52. teresa says:

She may regret her decision to deliver her speech the same day that the Harry and Meghan interview with Oprah is aired. LOL, does the monarch believe she can get better ratings than Oprah Winfrey!??!?

  53. Mooshe1 says:

Whichever PR idiot wrote the royal statement should be fired. The old royalists may have thought this was a show of power but the younger group thought it was petty and the younger group is who they need to placate. The Queen has the loyalty of the older people. It will continue through Charles because of the Queen and his age group. Will’s going to be in trouble, he’s boring and his age group isn’t interested. With Brexit and covid he’d better try to make amends with Harry.

    • L4frimaire says:

That statement out out by the palace was deliberately written that way and passed through many hands. That is exactly how the royals feel. This wasn’t some junior secretary going rogue. They released exactly what they wanted to say.

  54. Beach Dreams says:

We know they’re calling her much worse than “the American”. Honestly, these past few days really make it clear that they truly thought they could and would get Harry back. It’s just so incredibly bizarre and stupid, but it seems that really was the case. Someone on Twitter theorized that the palace probably thought the deals and Montecito were for Meghan alone and Harry was just getting her comfortably set up before returning to the UK. The news of Sussex baby #2 seriously threw them for a loop and it shows in how they’ve reacted in the days after the announcement. It says a lot about their thought processes and intelligence, none of it good.

  55. L4frimaire says:

It’s actually good to get the palaces perspective on things but he admits that it’s the Oprah interview that did it. The fear and panic. I get the impression that they were the ones who didn’t quite grasp that the Sussexes were done with royal life, even though it was obvious to everyone. I get that it would be difficult for the Sussexes to be in their previous role with their current set up, but I think they didn’t want that either. They probably were hoping for some type of connection, maybe represent a few select patronages in a more private capacitor . Even before they left, they were constantly rebuffed because the royals didn’t want to change, especially for “that American “, whose job was to be continuously abused for daring to marry their prince. The patronages were used as leverage, I think Harry was told they’d have to give up independent income and projects, there would be zero change in how the couple would be treated from when they left in 2020, and the Rota would have exclusive access. People speculated that the longer they were gone, the harder it would be to come back, but no one over in the UK was listening to that. It seems the royals have a tendency to create awful, untenable situations for certain members, like Diana, like Meghan, then act as though they’re the offended party when they leave. It’s just so incredibly messy and the way they play out everything in the press over there makes it a thousand times worse.

    • Smart PR would be to stay silent until AFTER the interview and then release a nasty statement (of course) based on what has actually said. Braying about an interview before anyone has any idea how it will play out is an extremely stupid PR move. Not even PR 101, but remedial PR. I have a feeling the interview is going to be a class act from start to finish but the 👑🤡 carnival has already going crazy over what they think will be said (or hope will be said).

      • L4frimaire says:

With all this crazy reaction from the UK, the Sussexes team and Oprah’s team are being given advance preview of the royal reaction based on this press hysteria and know what to expect from the UK. It will help with framing and preparation. Both parties involved in this interview understand the high stakes involved. As many have mentioned, why is it ok fir so many to speak about s d project t on the Sussexes, but if they dare speak for themselves, all hell breaks loose.

  56. Who ARE These People? says:

The British Royals are spoiled brats.

  57. Abena Asantewaa says:

I really feel sorry for Harry and Meghan, especially Meghan, they’ve really tried to turn her joy into a nightmare, only strong love has sustained them. The Queen is cruel! She is Miss Marple, she is the leaker, she is working in tandem with the media, she gives them the info, then sits back and sees the reaction, then she goes back and make a decision, based on what the media wants, it is so disloyal and sad. Whatever, they’ve done to Meghan, must have been so bad, hence their fear. From day 1, Meghan was refered to as The degree wife, the interloper, the actress, only God knows, what other derogatory names they have for her.

    • deering24 says:

      Ahem–please don’t drag the way-more-intelligent and emotionally-savvy Miss Marple into this. 🧐🧐

  58. R.Kay, one of the many carnival of so-called royal experts, thinks that the Sussexes were rude to have the last word about public service. They were not being rude or disrespectful. They were being authentic and truthful. Kay should just focus writing about William, Kate, and Rose. He knows the inside story.

  59. Over it says:

Well if the palace is indeed paying attention to what the public is saying, I sincerely hope that they read Kaiser articles and the comments. So in my wishful thinking, kiss Harry and Meghan ass you racist tone deaf .disgusting lots of assholes. And all the asses of every person of color especially women who have had to endure bullshit and nastiness and racism from you colonists bitches. Oh and just so you know I despise your queen.

  60. Amy Too says:

“…that all the affection and indulgence shown to Harry had been so spectacularly ignored — or even thrown back in her face.” The RF only shows love and affection towards their children so that they can a life of servitude back from them. That’s what narcissists and people with borderline personality disorder do: they expect a return on their love and affection, and even things like housing and feeding and clothing their own children. You must love your life to make them happy and do everything they say because they deigned you keep you alive when you were a baby and have you a pat on the back when you were sad one time.

  61. Kyliegirl says:

They really just keep showing their asses. This line stuck out to me, “Throughout the saga, Palace officials have been playing close attention to public reaction.” Correction, they kept paying close attention to what the RR and the ilk that comment on their social media. They are only listening to a narrow demographic. It’s dangerous to only listen to the echo chambers. You can only hide behind a 94 year old woman for so long. Change is coming.

    • GrnieWnie says:

yes! I love reading the comments on these posts! I have been raging for so long against these institutions (I have my own personal experiences with them). And now that this story has been vividly illustrating these toxic dynamics to the public, watching other people join me in my rage is just…validating. They really only listen to that very narrow demographic but we’re all just supposed to accept that this is the only demographic who matters.

    • Gail Hirst says:

I was just thinking: Do they (couriers, grey suits, carnival of so-called experts we all know are clowns) do they know and understand that social media platforms are both public and international? Queen’s stmt went world wide, dissing them. They were forced into a rebuttal because of the nastiness of the Queen’s msge. Now her doing Commonwealth Service speech the day BEFORE Commonwealth Day (WHY?) AND before H&M’s interview could be disastrous if queenie says/does stuff M&H don’t even touch on. A rebuttal before any statement made can only go south – showing their butts all the way. I can see it now “The Commonwealth is strong, made up of like minded countries” and then the Commonwealth countries say: not so, and now, knowing you think this way, know we want OUT!! Scotland, Australia, Bahamas (I think) have all publicly stated they want out. so she says strong and we say we want out…will she ever see the disconnection?

  62. Lowrider says:

Of course! The institution hated her for being American, bi-racial and and actress.

I will never understand why Americans follow the royal propaganda. Their classism and arrogance has no time for you!

  63. GrnieWnie says:

“Outrageous” to have the last word. “Such disrespect.” “Get in line.” “Know your place.” Annnnd….there’s that British intransigence. There it is! This is exactly why their institutions are the way they are: inflexible, unchanging, unyielding…until they break.

  64. Freddy says:

    “The American” is a slur now….whatever “subjects”…..

  65. deering24 says:

“In the event of Charles and William both losing their lives — and, remember, they have both contracted Covid-19 — Harry would become regent to a young Prince George.”

Whoa. Not enough popcorn in the world for _that_ meltdown…

  66. yasmean says:

    Abolish the monarchy!

  67. Keroppi says:

I cannot wait to read the book and watch the documentary about the final days of the British monarchy and empire. I just hope it doesn’t take 50 years to be written.

  68. Snuffles says:

    @MACCS

Thanks for the info! And, yes, I can totally see Harry clocking William every time he was a dick.

    RE: Dyslexia

Sad that no one at Aston or his family tried to help him. I wonder if he got help for it while in the military. Something like that would be noted immediately and dealt with. Especially if he went in to fly aircraft and lead missions.

  69. MA says:

How incredibly racist and othering. Remember how the Cambridges couldn’t bother to even express joy at having a new nephew but just a vague “Spring is in the air” or whatever. They can’t even bother to mention her by name or acknowledge her existence. What sort of normal person does that?
By their messed up societal code, Meghan should’ve been treated as Kaiser said with deference as a royal duchess. But they couldn’t even treat her with basic human decency.

  70. SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

‘The American’. Just shows their arrogant, unjustified contempt towards the former colonies. That’ll go down well on Commonwealth Day, huh?

Have they not yet noticed that the rest of the Commonwealth completely ignores the former Empire Day? RF should have a little think about why that might be.

  71. Liz version 700 says:

Haha that is funny because Americans used to be huge fans of the British Monarchy and I dare say a good portion of us find them disgusting now. Those silly Americans … who ran the Royal family out of their country and will have H&M’s back in our country now. 🙄🙄. I feel bad for Britain, it took us 4 long years but we got rid of Trump, but you are stuck with this clown show….jeez

  72. Persephone says:

I think everyone may be forgetting that this is Richard (De)Kay talking. The actual royal family is conspicuously silent, because of their stupid “Never complain, never explain” policy. That way they can hypocritically deny that they ever said anything untoward about M&H.

  73. Bonsai Mountain says:

Oh these OG racists definitely refer to her as something, but it’s not the American. So glad she left. Wishing nothing but misery on these colonizing ghouls.

  74. Mika says:

If royals aren’t allowed to be half in/half out, why is it that Will and Kate were allowed to spend the first 6 years of their marriage calling themselves part time royals while sucking up huge amounts of resources? If it’s the making money thing, why is it that Princess Michael can sell books using her title and still be part time?

Answer: Because it was never about being half in/half out. It was about punishing Harry and Meghan for daring to expect fair treatment.

  75. Well Wisher says:

The aftermath of this decision is being discussed by the BTM as if they had a stake in it. One pattern has been established that it is always about the press and their needs and I assume that Will have had issues an ultimatum on their behalf. That Harry returns, preferably alone, for their shared benefit. He must give up financial freedom and his ability to protect his family against press intrusion etc.
William played the last trump card, now the unidentifed poll is being set up as a replacement to use the threat of losing their HRH as the new means of control. Now that the ultimatum went horribly wrong, the only one speaking is…

    Explaining is ….

    Finger pointing is …

I suspect that there will be no recurrences as Charles and Diana, where the press is concerned, simply because of Harry’s prior statement in the African doc. The cheap shot at Meghan is just that, Prince Harry has boundaries in place to ensure his and his family’s wellbeing and inner peace. The beautiful thing about loving public service is the opportunity to able to do it, that is the joy of service and the Sussexes will have lots of chances to find joy through service.

I noticed that Prince Charles is very muted.
    mmmm

  76. Sandra says:

The Queen’s statement was bizarre because she knows they can still be of service no matter where they’re living or whether they go to pointless events like beer tastings or visiting a super market for photo ops or not.
To me this “one foot in one foot out” business was Harry being a royal but married to a Black American woman who by simply showing up to work exposed that the BRF are the ones playing at being public servants. I think his ultimatum from granny really was to either abandon his wife and baby/continue to stand by while the Royal reporters tore her apart for existing or be publicly shunned by his dysfunctional family.
I’m so glad they stood their ground and chose to live their own lives away from these cold snobs.

  77. Christine says:

“of probably the most famous broadcaster on the planet.”

Yes. Yes, she is. And this hatchet job will just make the interview with Meghan and Harry more appropriate. HOW has no one in England, anywhere in the land, told the press to shut the fork up? Right. Because this is business as usual for them. My Mom woke me up to watch Diana marry Charles, I have been an Anglophile for as long as I can remember. They have no ability to adapt, fortunately for the rest of us, we do.

  78. blunt talker says:

These royalists who speak to the media need to stuff it-They keep putting their foot in their mouths-Every slight and smear they use on the Sussexes will be telling indictment of the UK-I hear lots of people say I did not know the UK has such racist, sexist overtones on a constant basis-Oprah could put a bulletin board a list every smear made against Meghan since she and Harry got together-These so called royalists who speak/write in the media are hatchet people-They are doing the bidding or the royal family to gain favor or regard from the royals-They don’t have real lives to lead if you are spending all your living years trying to protect the royal family-Old, white, royalists say things so they can get sniff of the Queen’s drawers-May the good Lord have mercy on their souls-This thing of calling Meghan THE AMERICAN instead of by her name or title should definitely be pointed out in the upcoming interview with Oprah-The service statement by the Sussexes I took it to mean you don’t have to be royal to render charity or help to anyone in this world-Meghan and Harry will continue working in charities they deeply care about-Maria Shiver agreeds with their statement-If the royal family does not get on with doing their royal thing -they are going to diappear into thin air-Who and when Harry and Meghan give interviews are no longer the concern of royals in the UK-All this chest beating is stupid with their IQs-Best wishes to the Sussex family.

  79. Sara says:

What this article basically told me is that this is a total response from the Queen’s advisors and not the Queen; they think H&M are ungrateful. I feel like a lot of times when you hear back and forth going on what you’re seeing are the fights between the courtiers who want to do what’s best for the royal household that they represent with Buckingham Palace being the big dog. H&M’s clap back offended the old white men working for the Queen and not the Queen herself, she may have gotten a whiff of the response but puleeeeze. This made me think of a Conan O’Brien podcast with Kenan Thompson where they both said that they love greeting people and folks would ignore them, they questioned why this was occurring and were told ” We were told not to look and/or speak to you”. All of this coming from folks who work for them and not them. I also recall from Michelle Obama’s book where she went to sit in the front seat an the Queen told her to sit in the back with her and let the men sit up front and everyone went into an outrage and thought Michelle broke protocol only to find out that the Queen herself thought it was all rubbish. I’m not a defender of the Queen because #american but a lot of these article reek of courtiers getting their undies in a bunch.

While I think Betty is Petty, I highly doubt she cares about any of this to have her staff go into battle for it. I honestly believe that when the Queen wants something done, you won’t hear about it for years like with her hiding her wealth (she asked for that in the 70s you’re hearing about it NOW).

  80. BnLurkN4eva says:

All of this stuff just has been ticking me off so badly. Just let these people live there lives and worry about the royals in England. Why this desperate need to be so laser focused on two people who have long made it clear, they are done, they are fine with being done, you do you and let us do us. Move on royals and tabloids in Britain.
