Rege-Jean Page hosted Saturday Night Live: did you know he could sing?

We got a pleasant surprise during Rege-Jean Page’s SNL hosting gig. I mean, did ya’ll see my baby’s daddy? (I don’t plan to be a parent like ever.) Rege-Jean “the god” Page gave us several hilarious performances when he hosted SNL this weekend with special guest Bad Bunny. Not only did Rege show us that he can sing, but our boo thang has great comedic timing. Here are a few of my favorite skits.

Rege-Jean’s opening was hysterical. The smoldering gaze and the absolutely dramatic removal of an eyelash while also trying to pretend he is some noble nerd was so over the top. But what really raised my eyebrows was when Rege began to sing. Did ya’ll know that The DUKE can sing? How did I miss this bit of information? Incidentally, last year he did a song called “Don’t Wait.” as half of the musical duo Tunya. He definitely showed off his musical chops on SNL when he broke into song in his opening monologue:

My favorite skit of the night was when Rege made a cameo in the skit “Loco” where he laid some bars with Ego Nwodim. Ego became every single person in quarantine in the song. It slaps hard and I felt attacked when she was talking to and hugging her plants. But the funniest part was when it was revealed that Ego wasn’t in a nightclub being a bad bitch. Instead Edo was fantasizing about meeting Rege-Jean while sitting on her couch stoned and watching Hitch.

The best cringe-worthy skit of the night was when Rege-Jean and the SNL cast tried recreating some of Bridgerton’s intimate scenes without the intimacy coordinator. Supposedly the intimacy coordinator was out for Covid exposure. So they replaced the intimacy coordinator with some lighting guys or dudes who work on set. The skit was everything that could possibly go wrong on a set when filming love scenes.

And last but not least, watching Rege-Jean return to his, um, roots (no pun intended, his father was a preacher) with the grace skit. My boy Rege is a little stiff in the hips but it was hilarious watching him get into a very African-American cultural moment by turning a grace over food into a song.

A lot of the skits were corny AF but I truly enjoyed watching Rege perform and not take himself so seriously. I think I will be enjoying Rege for many years to come and I cannot wait for season two of Bridgerton. I am also looking forward to other cast members revealing their hidden talents. I know for a fact that Nicola Coughlan can bake. She was on The Great British Bake-Off Holiday edition. You can catch that on Netflix.

I love him!! I like that he doesn’t take himself tooo serious and was able to be funny.

  2. Snuffles says:

My favorite skit was the “Bless Off”. I look forward to him doing a musical some day.

  3. Darla says:

That Loco skit I cracked up. That is me at this point, totally living in a dream world, not sure what’s real. Also, Pete Davidson keeps getting better.

Page was so good and not at all awkward which sometimes happens. Smart move on his part, I think he may be the biggest male actor within 2 years. He’ll land a franchise too.

    • Abby says:

Agreed on Pete. I watched the Britney skit and he was GREAT as Cuomo.

      • Darla says:

OMG I couldn’t believe how much he NAILED Cuomo. I felt like I was watching Cuomo. I was hysterical!

      • Snappyfish says:

Pete’s Cuomo was spot on! I was really impressed how well Pete did this weekend. As for The Duke….he’s perfect

    • Becks1 says:

I think Page is going to be huge too. There is a star quality about him that was very evident on Saturday night.

    • cassandra says:

I relate way too much to Loco haha

Also that wink in the opening monologue ruined me

    • Esmom says:

Yes, all I kept thinking was the fact that he was so at ease doing SNL is pretty remarkable and impressive. It’s so cool to his his star rise in real time. He seems like a real professional and all around great guy. Wishing him much continued success.

      • Noodle says:

Totally agree that he was unusually wonderful as host. So many times the hosts are so cringe, which isn’t their fault. It’s not their training or genre. He was a natural. He couldn’t make up for some of the corny writing (the ship skit was particularly dumb), but he committed to what they gave him. Mad respect to him. Plus he’s so dreamy. Okay, I’m going to stop or I won’t be able to work today.

If Pete can keep himself on the rails, he’ll have quite the career. He’s so talented! He seems to be in a really healthy place now, so I hope he stays that way.

  4. ABritGuest says:

    He’s lovely ❤️

  5. Seraphina says:

He was awesome and LOCO was great – also because I can empathize with it right now! It’s been a year is right and I am about to go LOCO.

  6. Abby says:

I loved Bridgerton and I’m not a raging fan but like him a lot. HOWEVER, I was really pleasantly surprised at his enthusiasm and comedic timing. And SINGING! He seems to have such a great attitude and was so happy to be there, plus he did great in all his skits. I think his monologue was my favorite.

I really look forward to watching him in whatever projects come his way. I think he’s got an “it” factor I haven’t seen in a while.

    • Jillian says:

I completely agree, star quality baby! He’s just so charming and handsome, and he’s got the chops

    • Midnight@theOasis says:

I agree. I hope he seizes this moment and many opportunities come his way. Sadly, as always, there are internet trolls whining about how Phoebe and not Rege should be the breakout star and it’s unfair Rege’s getting more opportunities than Phoebe. Typical nonsense spouted by haters.

  7. MattyLove says:

Why is he so perfect? Even his teeth are perfect! Swoon.

  8. Becks1 says:

he was awesome! I loved the opening and the seven seas tik tok or whatever skit was hilarious in a very SNL way.

I said to my husband – I feel like he’s trying to make it as a singer or get a broadway gig or something, so many of the skits involved singing! I didnt realize he could sing either but its clear he has had significant training.

    • Det20! says:

He went to a well known drama school in London (going by the nickname Trauma) and education there would include singing. I haven’t seen all of SNL, but the clips I saw his singing was quite okay. I currently work for an arts uni in Germany that has drama education, and the young actors have loads of language skills education, in groups as well as single lessons, and that includes everything from speech to singing. I am sure any decent drama school in the UK has extensive training in that regard, too. Many trained UK actors can at least decently hold a tune, even if it’s not something they might often show it in film or tv. He might need it for theatre though, which would have been a huge part of his training anyway.

I enjoyed the Sea Shanty bit, he seemed to be having a good time and has a lovely voice.

About time a new talented actor/singer got a break thru into bigger things. How much longer is HW going to keep cranking out action movies with old stars? Enough Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, tired of Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon, Jeremy Renner, I could list another 5-10 actors who have been around with franchises way too long.

Musicals or a decent comedy would be most welcome.

Bridgerton has the potential to make new stars. I’ve heard the actor who plays Anthony has a good theater background, and series 2 should be pretty good.

  10. Kris says:

Her name is Ego, not Edo.

  11. Hannah says:

I feel like anyone who wants to make it big in Hollywood has to be trained in singing etc.

  12. Midnight@theOasis says:

Rege was delightful. He seemed happy to be there and did a great job hosting his first (but hopefully not last) SNL. The Loco sketch was my favorite. I laughed so hard. And yes, I knew Rege could sing. He has an excellent voice. This was a wise career move for him and I hope his star continues to rise.

  13. Common sense says:

Rege was really great. My favourite was the ice cube skit and the bridgerton skit. Chloe makes excellent Phoebe/Daphne impressions, she should have had more dialogue.
On a superficial note: How does a person look so good in a mask? The last photo of Rege is wow! Look at those eyebrows!

  14. Faithmobile says:

This was by fare one of my favorite SNL episodes. Giggled ridiculously during the monologue. My favorite skits were the Job Interview and the prayer-off. Impressed with his American accent.

  15. Amelie says:

I wish they had done another alien abduction skit lol. I rewatched those last night and Kate McKinnon makes it her mission to make everyone break in those skits, except for Cecily Strong who always has this confused face during those skits. It also gave her the excuse to manhandle Paul Gosling’s butt, Paul Rudd’s face, and Liev Schreiber’s face. Lord knows what she could have done to Rege. But otherwise it was pretty enjoyable and the cold opening with Britney Spears interviewing Ted Cruz, Gina Carano, and Andrew Cuomo was gold and honestly the best skit of the night.

  16. jferber says:

    So hot.

  17. Marigold says:

His smile is just devastatingly sweet. My goodness. He could be THE Mr. Darcy. Or anything else he wants to be.

  18. Dlc says:

The sexiest SNL ever! Bad Bunny and Rosalia? Fire!!

  19. Mina_Esq says:

He is a total theatre nerd, and I love it!

  20. nb says:

He was great! My husband and I started watching SNL on the firestick after it aired and he tried to skip over the monologue and some of the skits (I sense a bit of jealousy, lol) but I made sure we watched all of it. Rege is so talented!

  21. Meg says:

I felt personally called out when he asked female cast members what their favorite parts of the bridgerton were and they listed the exact episodes and minutes into the episodes of his sex scenes

  22. The Recluse says:

Loved the Sea Shanty skit. Those lyrics!!!

  23. lucy2 says:

When he started singing, I thought “of course! Of course he can sing too!”

I was really impressed by how well he did – he has great comedic timing, and also just so much charm, it’s impossible not to enjoy him on screen. Few of the sketches were really funny, but he was great.

  24. Jose says:

Good Lord! He may just one-up Shemar Moore.

  25. duchess of hazard says:

The guy went to a notorious British acting school (Drama Centre London) which was notorious in terms of getting a rise out of his students (to the point of one dying). If he survived there… well, the rest is just a doddle.

It helps that he seems to be someone who’s interesting and interested in things. Page has been ready for this all his working life, it seems.

    All the best to him.
