When Joe Biden won the election in November, I honestly did have one brief moment where I was like “I wonder if we’ll cover politics during the Biden administration” and “will we have enough celebrity and royal gossip to make up for the lack of political drama.” Well, so far so good – royal/celeb gossip has been FIRE this year so far. As it turns out, not having a real awards season has been great for gossip. And as it turns out, there are still awful stories about the Trump family, what with Don Jr. getting coked up and filming videos from his gun room, and Donald Trump telling people that he’ll run again in 2024. He will make an appearance at CPAC next weekend – CPAC is the Conservative Political Action Conference and it’s an annual conference which generally makes news for Republicans trying to one-up each other as Nazis. Well, Trump is going to do… something.
In his first post-presidential appearance, Donald Trump plans to send the message next weekend that he is Republicans’ “presumptive 2024 nominee” with a vise grip on the party’s base, top Trump allies tell Axios. A longtime adviser called Trump’s speech a “show of force,” and said the message will be: “I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I’m still in charge.” Payback is his chief obsession. Axios has learned that Trump advisers will meet with him at Mar-a-Lago this week to plan his next political moves, and to set up the machinery for kingmaking in the 2022 midterms.
Trump is expected to stoke primary challenges for some of those who have crossed him, and shower money and endorsements on the Trumpiest candidates. State-level officials, fresh off censuring Trump critics, stand ready to back him up.
Trump’s speech Sunday at CPAC in Orlando is designed to show that he controls the party, whether or not he runs in 2024 His advisers argue that his power within the GOP runs deeper and broader than ever, and that no force can temper him. “Trump effectively is the Republican Party,” Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told me. “The only chasm is between Beltway insiders and grassroots Republicans around the country. When you attack President Trump, you’re attacking the Republican grassroots.”
The few Republicans who have spoken ill of Trump since the election — including House members who voted to impeach him, and senators who voted to convict — have found themselves censured, challenged and vilified by the parties in their home states. Trump’s leadership PAC, Save America, has $75 million on hand, and he has a database of tens of millions of names.
The long game: Many Trump confidants think he’ll pretend to run but ultimately pass. He knows the possibility — or threat — gives him leverage and attention.
This is just an FYI – Trump will be doing Trump things this week and next weekend. He will make everything about the Trump Show and all of the Republicans are expected to show up in Florida to kiss the ring. I am legitimately curious about how it will work when “Trump candidates” try to primary the handful of congressmen and senators who did vote to impeach and convict. There’s enough evidence to suggest that within the Republican Party, there’s a healthy chunk of voters who would definitely be down for a third party, the Trump Party (or MAGA Party). And it’s ridiculous that Trump is suddenly mega-efficient when it comes to revenge, and he’s super-organized and keeping a list and brainstorming punishments, all when he literally sat on his ass for his final months in office and refused to put together any kind of vaccination plan. 500,000 dead Americans and he’s thinking about who has been “loyal” to him.

I get that he is in control of the party but will he really “shower” candidates with his own money? I can’t imagine him parting with a penny of all the cat he’s managed to grift even if it is in pursuit of defeating Democrats and people he deems RINOs.
He has no money of his own. That man is broke, which is why he was hiding his tax returns for so long.
He has other people’s money and he’s the front man. After growing up in the Cold War and being told ‘The Russians are coming’, well, they’re coming and MAGA is helping.
ALSO, the Supreme Court just gave the Manhattan DA access to Trump’s tax returns (finally, finally). Going to be mighty interesting to see what comes of that.
The cheap seats are already “sold out”. The “only” remaining tickets are on sale for $7500 each. Sounds like a grifting session to me.

I agree! Maybe one article every couple days to overview everything, but don’t use this guy’s name ever so that it doesn’t come up in searches. We can make these people invisible again.
And, also, yes; let’s split the Republican party in half so that democrats can make some meaningful progress while those idiots fight amongs themselves. No argument from me!
I personally feel the same way about all the royal articles (which feel like about 1/3 to 1/2 of the site’s content lately), and I live in a Commonwealth country where the British royals actually still have some technical relevance. But I just skip the articles. I think they write on topics that have engagement. So enough people want to read about it that it makes sense for them to keep writing about royals and/or Trump.

The Supreme Court just refused to hear Trump’s appeal of the lower court decision that his accounting firm Mazars must release his financial records from 2011 to 2019, including his tax returns, to the New York prosecutor.
I honestly have no fear of Trump in 2024 because I don’t think he will live that long.
After reading those pieces over the weekend from employees at his restaurants and the amount of Diet Coke, candy, and junk food he required everyday I’m stunned he’s still going. I read all of his demands to my husband and it honest to god sounded like something my seven year old would demand if he was given anything he wanted. He is a child in an adult body, mental arrested development.

I can’t even think about this right now. I just have to keep telling myself we have an adult who actually cares in the WH right now because sometimes I forget for a brief terrifying moment. I guarantee that Melania will not be around for run number two though.
Remember that, by popular vote, he lost both elections by millions, and that was pre-Capitol riots. Post-riots, I truly don’t think he would be able to get enough people to vote for him to become president again. The GOP is done with him, they’re relieved his Twitter is shut down and he can’t say anything about GOP candidates. I kind of hope he does run again as a 3rd party candidate, I honestly believe he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in h***, but he would have enough people voting for him to seriously hinder the GOP nominee.
But yeah, I wouldn’t worry about it. This guy is deeply unpopular, and that was before the riots and the fact that he had no vaccine rollout plan.

I will sure that not all lawsuits will prevent him from showing up .But his candidacy will depend on the 2022 US Senate elections. If the Republicans are reduced to minoritie in senate . There will be a deep internal war within the Republicans party between pro-Trump and anti-Trump.
This won’t last. The candidate of the losing party is always still the strongest in the party for a couple years but it doesn’t last. After 2016 dems didn’t have a new leader for 3 years. Same with the gQp after the Romney loss. Not to say that he can’t help over turn the house in 2022 like the tea party did but he will start to lose his usefulness pretty soon with no real social media platform.

Agreed on both counts. I really believe he is in the throes of dementia. My mom is mid-stage Alzheimer’s and he demonstrates a lot of the same habits she did earlier in disease progression.

I am counting on him dying before 2024 and I don’t like being wrong. I live in Canada and the number of Trump groupies up here is disgusting and upsetting, I don’t know how you Americans with common sense managed the past 4 years.
I had to start taking medication to be honest. The entire last year has been so hard, the pandemic along with my maga family just going berserk, my anxiety was out of control.

Those people that believe the Trump lies are sad. I feel sorry for these people that are duped. I stopped being angry and instead feel pity for them. Today I had a meeting with my boss (DT lover) and I mentioned Texas and how they don’t have the preparedness like northeners do. (I was talking about homes). He started talking about the windmills. I cut him off really quickly and focused back on home building. We had arguments about DT in the past. He kept pushing his agenda during meetings until I called him out for a sexist comment about AOC. HR got involved and he no longer says the things he used to say. It’s sad an educated man is being duped to support such a despicable person.
If you can change your perspective on your family maybe it will help with coping with these issues. They are still your family and hopefully sooner rather than later they will see the error of their ways and can mend fences. My best to you. Take care of yourself. We are only human and can only deal with so much though.

So trump presided over the preventable deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, was impeached twice, lost the presidency, the House and the Senate, and incited a homicidal mob attack on the Capitol. Yet these people will give him a standing ovation. An insult to everyone who has lost a relative or a friend to the pandemic that trump grossly mismanaged. RIP to every one of the half a million Covid victims.
