People Mag: The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge’s 10-year anniversary is keen

baldingham keen anniversary

This month is going to be all about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s ten-year wedding anniversary. There will be magazine covers and embiggening stories and sugary profiles. I’ve also heard the conspiracy that once the Keens hit a decade of marriage, the wheels will fall off and they’ll divorce? Which isn’t going to happen. I mean, never say never, but my take has always been: Kate will never leave William, but he might leave her. The only way William would walk would be if he actively thinks she’s harming his Future King status or if he thinks he’s got someone better waiting in the wings. None of that is the case presently, from what I can see. William appreciates Kate for the “dedicated family man” cover she gives him, and he’s never going to find anyone else who will put up with all of his sh-t. So, with that in mind, please enjoy this preview of People Magazine’s special edition for the Keen Anniversary:

It seems impossible, but a decade has flown by since a global audience of millions watched Prince William marry his college sweetheart, Kate Middleton, on April 29, 2011. Now PEOPLE is commemorating the occasion with a new special edition, William and Kate: 10 Joyous Years, which traces their lives together beginning with their courtship at the University of St. Andrew’s in Scotland, through their brief split, to their engagement, and to today, as the couple devotes themselves to their three kids—Prince George and Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte—and to the charitable causes that move them.

This collector’s edition also includes a detailed look back at William and Kate’s glorious spring wedding. As expected, there was the grandeur and age-old traditions that have held the royal-watchers rapt since Queen Elizabeth’s 1947 nuptials to Prince Philip were broadcast live over the radio to 200 million listeners. There was Kate’s jaw-dropping gown (by British designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen), gleaming horse-drawn carriages, a flyover by the Royal Air Force and cheers for newlywed kisses on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

But there were also plenty of signs that served to say: This is not your nan’s royal wedding. The most obvious update to the House of Windsor—the bride herself. Kate Middleton was a commoner and a confident, grown-up woman, not a 20-year-old member of Britain’s aristocracy, as William’s mother, Lady Diana Spencer, had been when she married Prince Charles. After dating William for nearly 10 years before they announced their engagement, Kate had no illusions about what her life as a royal would be and the down-to-earth tone she intended to bring to it.

Throughout the one-hour ceremony, Will and Kate appeared lighthearted, locking eyes and smiling, a united team of equals genuinely enjoying their day. The whole affair “felt like being at a family wedding, albeit quite a large one,” a guest and friend of the Middletons, Tim Hirst, told PEOPLE. “It was very intimate, very comfortable, very friendly—you had to keep pinching yourself to remember that this was the most amazing wedding of the future King and Queen.”

That remains true today. Yes, the Duke of Cambridge is an heir to the British throne and his wife will someday be Queen Consort. But at home, they are simply William and Kate. He’ll make tea for guests, she might serve enchiladas. As Dad and Mum, they divvy up the parenting duties that seem to have multiplied as school and work went remote during the COVID pandemic. “I’ve become a hairdresser . . . much to my children’s horror,” Kate has shared. The pair have also been homeschooling George, 7, Charlotte, 5, and Louis, 2, and conducting work by video. To help, they’ve been given use of the Queen’s Sandringham country house, not far from their Anmer Hall home. “It’s a lovely, welcoming house,” a source told PEOPLE.

[From People]

People also embiggens William for following in “his father’s environmentalist footsteps,” because he said words in a documentary about how he’s keen. Kate is embiggened as well for “concentrating on early childhood development” with her landmark “Five Big Questions,” a survey so stupid, they had to fill in the results with secondary polling. And don’t forget the pie charts! People Mag also promises to highlight “how the Middleton family has thrived in the spotlight that came when Kate married into royalty,” which is how you know that the Middletons are the sources for much of this f–kery.

A few more things: “This is not your nan’s royal wedding.” I disagree. The wedding was just a run-of-the-mill royal wedding with zero special touches or modernization. The idea that the wedding was modern because of Kate, “a commoner and a confident, grown-up woman, not a 20-year-old member of Britain’s aristocracy, as William’s mother, Lady Diana Spencer,” well, have they checked on the big girl lately? Because they’re still infantilizing this nearly 40-year-old woman. She picks out her own clothes and goes to the potty and we’re supposed to be super-impressed! Besides, Kate has shown in the past decade that she’s a true Victorian.

  1. Elizabeth says:

Not even a mention of the affair scandal? Pathetic.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

It will never be mentioned until the press decide they need a new scape goat. If all else fails, they can use their children as pawns.

    • Becks1 says:

People mag isnt going there at this point – they are banking on the Cambridges to sell their new stupid royalty magazine (well quarterly magazine.) They need them to be happy and shiny and perfect. I think InTouch is the only US publication that mentioned it.

      • Cecilia says:

Nobody is going to mention that affair unless it becomes more profitable to expose it. Call me a bad person but i hope that sometime soons, some publication does write about it

    • Tessa says:

If Kate falls out of favor with William, it may be mentioned but to criticize HER for not making William happy. I doubt it will be mentioned otherwise.

  2. UnionSnack says:

I am ok with anniversaries but what makes me feel disappointed is that their anniversary is THE ONLY REAL thing to make news about this month. Yeah, they both don’t PoW still, but they are the youngest among this “maga 7”. Still 1 Zoom per week.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

It’s their sheer laziness for me. Love their lack of energy in giving us absolutely nothing. I want their non achieving selves to stay together. It’s what they both deserve. I just feel sorry for the kids.

  3. Ang says:

She’s become a hairdresser during the pandemic? Meaning, she never combed her children’s hair each morning prior to this year?
EDIT: oh I guess she means cutting their hair.

    • Becks1 says:

I really think sometimes she scrolls facebook or IG or just headlines and sees tidbits about what the “real” people are doing and makes those things about her life – like there was so much about people getting haircuts from their parents or spouses during quarantine, so I think Kate just decided to go with that. But I’m sure Nanny Maria was the one cutting the boys hair, and Charlotte’s hair could have gone months without getting a trim.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Ang: I think if she was doing her children’s hair regularly, she would have talked about cutting their hair not about becoming the hairdresser. So I think your initial thoughts were spot on.

    • HeatherC says:

So….she was the one who put Charlotte’s hair in a braid or ponytail once or twice instead of Nanny Maria?

  4. PEARL GREY says:

10 years of “joyous” marriage, almost 40 and barely a notable achievement between them apart from their joint smear campaign efforts. How nauseating the clean up job on their relationship and marriage of convenience continues to be, as if people can’t look up the true story for themselves. A woman who sacrificed her 20s to stalk a man, aided and abetted by her mother, a man who strung a woman along, kept her as his “sex waiting”, cheated and dumped her multiple times until the call of duty to marry finally became impossible to ignore. Heir and spare done and out of the way, followed by a bandaid baby that the father clearly didn’t want and they seem to forget exists at times. They spent the first 7 years of marriage hiding out from their duties, going from one PR mishap to the next and boring people to tears after being hailed as the modern royal working couple we’d all been waiting for, and only came out from their bolt hole to look busy when another couple showed them how it’s done. Their 10 year marriage has been unremarkable outside of his affairs and their bullying of their family members. Their love story shouldn’t even be enough to fill one page.

    • Tessa says:

It also spins it that she was “willing to wait.” She wasn’t she did not even get any serious work with deadlines so she would be available for the phone call. There were also other breakups and had William met someone else who wanted him she would have been history. It was HIS idea to wait.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Lazy social climber mean girl stalker marries lazy incandescent non achieving bully in waiting. Both outshined by a baby’s tooth thousands of miles away. They need all the PR they can get.

    • Over it says:

Start writing for people magazine and us weekly, yours is so much better and entertaining. Lolololol

    • swirlmamad says:

This is it in a nutshell. These two are so buffed and shined, it’s nauseating. They are the epitome of white mediocrity being elevated for no good reason other than they simply cannot be outshined by the black woman and the heir’s second fiddle brother.

  5. Becks1 says:

Man, I remember their wedding day. I got up at 4 am, popped my first bottle of champagne at 5 am lol, drank my coffee out of my grandmother’s china (that she bought at Harrod’s in London in the 60s), etc. I was so excited, I was so sure that Kate was going to be AMAZING in her role.

And 10 years later, here we are.

Someone on here mentioned the 10 year “contract” a few months ago, but I dont know how much I believe it. I don’t think William will divorce Kate just to divorce her, and she’s not budging. If they divorce, it will either be because he has found someone else or he has decided that Kate hurts his image like you said Kaiser. And at this point I dont think either of those things are true. (well he’s found other people but not someone who will marry him lol.)

    • Myra says:

I was living in the Uk when they got married. I remember the news making a big deal about her background and I felt a little sorry for her. I didn’t follow her, or any royals, after that, I just hoped that she would take her time to learn and navigate around those snobby people. Little did I know that she would absolutely literally waste her entire position. Look at her now, a right Aryan stepford-wife princess.

      • Cecilia says:

@myra people tend to forget that kate grew up with aristo’s around her. Just because she’s “new money” doesn’t mean they didn’t hang around the upper class. Her father (or uncle) had enough money to send her to the same schools as aristocrats. So naturally she adopted their attitude and way of thinking.

      • Tessa says:

Kate comes from new money, and sometimes they are the worst snobs. Diana even though aristo did not put on airs.

      • Myra says:

I knew very little of her before and after her marriage, only paid some attention after Meghan. I doubt aristos fully accepted her even if she hang around them, but she of course likely saw herself as one of them. Probably looked down her nose at others as a consequence, too.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

Kate comes from the class of new money people who will do ANYTHING to be accepted by the aristocracy, so she will never ever dare to rock the boat. She will carry on as the stepford wife that she is, save for the occasional mean girling of anyone she thinks is beneath her and she wants to freeze out. She tried it with Rose, a true aristocrat but it blew up in her face instead.

      • Nic919 says:

They spun the Kate being a commoner aspect very hard because really there wasn’t much special to Kate outside of her dedication to waiting for a man to decide to propose. In reality she wasn’t common at all because few women of her age would have demeaned themselves to the degree that Kate did just to get a man with a title and a tiara.

      • Robin says:

I’m with Nic919 on this. I remember they painted Kate’s arrival as the start of a new period of non aristocractic, non entitled realness. The media didn’t mention much about her background. I recall they interviewed her grandma, who said the royal family was lucky to get Kate not the other way round, which was sweet but, let’s face it, they deserved each other. It was only later that the reality of their ‘courtship’ (entrapment) came to light. Kate’s family did well at keeping a lid on it until after the marriage. The way their daughter hadn’t had a real job, had sat around waiting for William’s calls, the way he’d dumped her over and over and at one point jumped on a table shouting “I’m free” when they’d broken up yet again. Essentially, at the beginning, it was some kind of middle class rags to riches story, along the lines of Eliza Doolitte in My Fair Lady. Not quite that Kate was as ‘poor as a church mouse’, more that she was of a lower class but with a natural aristocracy about her. How wrong that went. She has no class. And the only thing similar to My Fair Lady is the Dolittle bit!

    • Cecilia says:

I put on a different channel half way through their wedding because i got bored. LOL. Tbf i was 13 at the time

      • Becks1 says:

LOL the actual ceremony was a little boring, that was when I drank my champagne. The arrivals were fun and then the carriage ride and the balcony appearance were fun too.

    • Nic919 says:

I watched the wedding at the time and didn’t mind the dress. I don’t remember much about it outside of noticing that William seemed to be smirking a lot during the ceremony. And I also thought it was odd that when she was walking down the aisle that Harry was looking but William never turned around to watch her. Outside of knowing they went to school together I didn’t know much of what they had done or not done. But looking back now, there was a coldness to that wedding that really was embodied in William. Looking at Harry and Jack during their weddings, you really notice the difference.

Anyway it will be interesting to see the lies and the spin about the last ten years. The awkwardness at the wedding has basically continued and there will be non stop spin hoping that people don’t notice what is before their eyes.

      • Snap Happy says:

I remember reading that Will promised not to look until she got to him.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

I seem to remember her swallowing nervously a number of times during the vows. Thought it was just nerves but looking back, the sign were there. It gave me a Duckface from the film Four Weddings and a Funeral vibe.

      • swirlmamad says:

That “promise not to look” might have been put out there to smooth over the way things looked. It didn’t register for me at the time but it’s really just strange that he didn’t even try to peek ONCE at the woman who he supposedly loved so much and was about to become his wife. Even my own husband, who is a very reserved guy by nature and doesn’t show his emotions easily, there are some great pics from our wedding of him watching me come down the aisle and you can see the sheer emotion on his face.

      • Nic919 says:

William not turning to look struck me as odd because I was a church organist and played more than a few weddings so it was unusual for a groom not to turn around and look, at least for a little bit.

      • Becks1 says:

I think the “he promised not to look” bit was put out there after people were like wtf, this is weird. I mean, the entire point of a dress and veil like that is how its going to look walking down the aisle. Why wouldnt she want him to see the whole effect? It was a dramatic dress and walk up the aisle and I really don’t think Kate would have been like, “dont look as I finally walk up the aisle at Westminster Abbey with my tiara and custom McQueen dress.”

      • Myra says:

Jesus! He really doesn’t love her. What groom doesn’t stare adoringly at the bride as she makes her way down the aisle? It’s getting harder to find one likable trait in William.

      • My Two Cents says:

There was a coldness, I saw that too. but also Kate’s face, it looks very different from now. I always thought in the wedding photos she looks like wax figure. She looks very hard, like her eye make up being too dark, maybe? and always that pale lipstick, imagine how she’d rock red lips, ohh the scandal!

      • Harper says:

The Cambridge wedding was boring! Their interactions were so cold and lifeless and back then I thought they were just being formal for the occasion but now I know it was a lack of enthusiasm on the groom’s part that made it so. All the pomp was a big joke to Will, IMO, and he seemed to be just doing what he was expected to do. The not turning to see Kate was his tell– he just didn’t care. I was so disappointed in Kate’s dress because it was so conventional. Even the Disney costume department could have come up with something more creative and memorable for a royal wedding. All the design talent at her fingertips and she comes up with a silhouette and a design that any random bride on the planet could access. Fail.

      • Mom2mom says:

“Jaw-dropping” wedding dress? More like jaw-droppingly boring.

      • Maria says:

I’m sure the “promised not to look” thing was in the same vein as the PR stories he put out around the time of the wedding saying that Royal men don’t wear wedding rings (untrue) so that’s why he wasn’t.

Just PR nonsense to excuse his lack of emotional commitment.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

While I liked her back then, I absolutely hated that dress. Then later when Harry married Meghan I loved her dress so much. Doily to highly fashion restraint. A theme that continues to this day!

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Kate’s wedding gown looked cheap, like something you could buy for $500. Although the bodice looked a lot like a ripoff of Lea Salonga’s Monique Lhuillier design, somehow it came across as cheaper and uglier on Kate.

And the design was not flattering to Kate. The gap in her bodice looks like a vagina. The gap should either be narrower like Grace Kelly’s buttoned-up bodice, or wider, like Princess Sophia of Sweden, But no, trust Kate to pick the least flattering cut. Also, the way they tried to emphasize her small breasts only made them look painfully hard, like bullets. Add to that the garish makeup, and Kate’s whole look was cheap and harsh.

      • notasugarhere says:

William couldn’t even be bothered to show up for the rehearsal, it meant so little to him after the decade of Kate’s stalking. He caved to the convenient business arrangement and it showed.

    • Maevo says:

I was so excited to see what she would do too! It felt like so much possibility and potential. I think the past 10 years have shown she was never interested in doing something new or following in Diana’s footsteps. I do think they both got what they wanted though – William got the family he wanted (especially mummy Carole) and Kate got the lifestyle and image she wanted.

      • Cecilia says:

I remember that in the hype around their wedding people thought kate would be the change the monarchy needed because she was a commoner. And they have played that image out to the max. The whole country side normal family image they are going for is an extension of that. It is actually sickening especially when you think about the fact that kate never had to work a day in her life for the things she got.

    • L84Tea says:

I got up early and watched every second. I was so excited and was rooting for Kate. I thought it was so great that she was a commoner and I believed that’s what would make her be the breath of life needed in the stale, musty RF. Such a let down in the end.

      • Cecilia says:

Like i said above. She was hardly the regular girl working at tesco’s her family had the money to send her to the same top notch school the aristo’s attended. Ergo she adopted the same lifestyle, behavior and way of thinking. In hindsight its laughable that people thought she would be a breath of fresh air.

      • L84Tea says:

I get that, but at the time it felt as close to “normalcy” as the RF could possibly get. The fact that it was Will’s college girlfriend (regardless of background) who became his wife and not some Lady Percy type was what felt so different.

      • Becks1 says:

@Cecilia you are right. I think people were banking on the fact that her mother and father were hardworking, but as soon as she got engaged the whole waity period got overlooked and brushed aside. But what did she do during her 20s that indicated she would be a breath of fresh air? It’s not even about adopting the aristos lifestyle, because many aristos have jobs and work, even if they are very posh jobs, like we see with the York princesses. There was no charity work, no significant volunteer work, not even any significant travel outside of posh vacations to the Mediterranean or skiing. She was lazy then and she is lazy now and I think we all know at this point she is never going to change.

      • Nic919 says:

The spin of Kate being a commoner and thus a breath of fresh air was part of a well coordinated spin campaign to whitewash that Kate had done nothing by age 29 outside of being available for William. If you weren’t aware of what she did or didn’t do during her 20s you would have ascribed the usual qualities to her that most women had at age 29. I have to admit that I really didn’t know much about her outside of her dating William since university. I am not even sure if I had paid attention to the multiple break ups and cheating pre wedding.

It was only later when the “hit the ground running” became an obvious lie and spun to “they don’t want to work too much because that’s why Charles and Diana divorced” did the cracks start to show. By 2016 pre Meghan, the work shy Wills and Duchess Doolittle titles were being used by the same royal rota that are now praising their “love story” to the skies. And of course it became even more obvious how little they were doing once Meghan arrived and really did show up ready to work.

      • Dl says:

All of this. I had not paid attention after we lost Princess Diana but was so ooo hopeful will and Kate would have and be everything I wanted for Diana. Harry hit the jackpot, PWT and Katie Doolittle are such colossal disappointment

    • swirlmamad says:

Same here, @becks1. Woke up crazy early (even before my then 4-month-old) and was SO excited to see their union take place. How naive I was back then. Now the sight of these two makes my eyes roll so hard I can see the back of my head.

      • Christine says:

swirlmamad, I had a 4 month old at the time too! He was only sleeping 7 hours a night, and even at that he had to be lying on top of me, and I was so excited I dragged my exhausted self out of bed to watch the wedding. Said 4 month old on top of me! Oh, how hopeful it all seemed then. Or maybe I was just too ragged to realize it was a crock. I did cry, hormonally, when Will didn’t even turn around to watch her walk up the aisle.

      • swirlmamad says:

@Christine, I don’t think mine was sleeping through the night yet either and I was willing to forgo precious time to sleep myself to wake up and watch! Shows how fooled I was and into the whole farce back then….lol!

    • Sofia says:

Same. I was so excited for their wedding (which I did watch). I thought Kate was lovely. My interest in them then waned and I just didn’t care much for them (I had nothing against them at the time, I was just like the average Brit who doesn’t care much for the royals). But I got into “royal watching” with Meghan and found out more about the Cambridges and well, here I am haha

      • LaraW” says:

The Cambridge’s fall from grace has been astounding. I was looking back at some old CB articles and reading the comments— my god. Could anyone imagine the Cambridges would fall so low? Every day I think, they’ve got it, they’ve really hit their low point this time and then bam! They manage to blindside me.

  6. Giggles says:

She looked incredible at the wedding. The dress was spot on.

    • Tessa says:

I thought it was rather blah, like an inferior knockoff of Grace Kelly’s dress.

      • MsIam says:

That’s what I thought too @Tessa. I remember watching Fashion Police or some similar show and they were all complementary about Pippa’s bridesmaid dress but they bagged on Kate’s dress big time.

      • L84Tea says:

@Tessa, I thought the same thing. I thought it was pretty, but my very first instant thought was “Oh, so she took Grace Kelly’s dress and opened the neck up.” Even her very first official Royal act and she was cosplaying someone else.

      • JT says:

There was definitely a lot Grace Kelly cosplay going on there and she was still overshadowed by Pippa. Like damn. It was the first major royal wedding since Diana, she married the FFK, got to wear a tiara, and she still was not the focus on her big day. I didn’t watch the wedding at all because I wasn’t into the royals at the time, but the only thing that caught my radar was Pippa’s behind.

      • Kristin says:

I get that vibe too, like it’s David’s Bridal’s version of Grace Kelly, lol!

      • WithTheAmerican says:

Yes! I liked her back then but I screamed “dollar store doily” when I saw the dress.

      • CuriousCole says:

In the runup to the wedding, I remember reading about Kate loving the look of Grace Kelly’s dress and I immediately knew it was going to be a copy of that. I still thought she looked lovely on the day but it wasn’t a very inspired choice.

      • notasugarhere says:

It was a cheap knockoff of Kelly’s and Orsini’s gowns, and they went extra cheap on the veil. Plus the internal structure was badly done, with weird lace placement that looked liked nipples. The reception dress was even worse.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

She looked beautiful on her wedding day. I remember thinking the dress being a cross between Grace Kelly’s dress and Princess Margaret’s dress but didn’t understand the boob darts. Looking at the dress now, it looks quite dated.

    • Lorelei says:

@Giggles I loved her dress too, and I still think it’s so pretty — except for the boob darts!
I’ve never understood what purpose the boob darts serve and they remind me of something Madonna would wear. But aside from them, I think it’s a lovely wedding gown.

    • Becks1 says:

I thought she looked lovely on her wedding day, I thought her eye makeup was a little heavy, but we’ve since seen that’s really her thing. And the boob darts! I didnt notice them initially and once I noticed them I cant un-notice them, lol.

But overall I did really like her dress – the lacework was gorgeous – and it worked for the abbey.

I did not like her reception dress though.

      • Nic919 says:

That reception dress was a disaster. The fur bolero was awful. I can’t believe no one told her how bad it was. It looked cheap and tacky.

    • Alexandria says:

I think it suited her but it was ok to me because I’ve seen that type of top. The top looked like sarong kebaya top and we rock kebayas better than her. Anyway I think she looked good for her wedding day. I can be nice to the bride, it’s easy Keen!

    • Sofia says:

I agree. I love her dress. Her makeup was a bit heavy. I don’t know why she didn’t opt for her professional to do it. I know lots of women do their own makeup for their wedding but if was marrying the future future king and my wedding is being broadcast to billions, I would have hired a professional.

      • swirlmamad says:

Right — and if she wanted to look like “herself” she could’ve reiterated that to the makeup artist that that was the look she was going for, and they would’ve followed that but made it look as though she didn’t slap on a load of Wet ‘n Wild with a spackle.

      • Sofia says:

@swirl Agreed. A good professional makeup artist (especially if they have worked in film/tv) knows what makeup looks good in front of cameras and could have done the correct application in order to make sure her makeup looks great.

I’m surprised she didn’t at least have an MUA to guide her through her application i.e how and where to apply and how much.

      • Becks1 says:

@Sofia I think she did, I thought Bobbi Brown sat down with her and went over it, she had a card with the guidelines on it. But I dont think Kate has ever learned the essential makeup rule – start out with less than you think you need, you can always add more.

Contrast her to Meghan, who had a professional MUA obviously and she looked 100% like Meghan, just kind of a glowier Meghan, so to speak. That’s what a good make up artist can do. I mean heck I had a makeup artist for my wedding and I’m far from a princess, lol, and I think that’s what she did – made me look like myself but better.

      • Sofia says:

@Becks: I didn’t hear that. Maybe Kate didn’t follow it or her lack of professional makeup skills meant she couldn’t follow it the way it should have been followed. But I do think that having an actual MUA would have been much better.

      • Rapunzel says:

I’ve always suspected she changed her makeup and ignored MUA advice because Wills had said those heavily made up eyes and cheeks were sexy or something.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

She DID have a professional. Bobbi Brown did her, her mother and Pip, but then we heard Kate scrubbed it off and did it herself, so “William would recognize her”. I remember that quote *so* clearly!

It’s such a shame, her makeup (esp. the blush/eyebrows/kohl liner) was like clown makeup. And she is a very pretty woman. To me though, the makeup just looked too damned heavy, even for photographs.

      • Robin says:

It’s good to hear about Bobbi Brown and the make up. I heard later that she wanted to do it herself because she wanted to look like she always did. Strange sentiment but I suppose it’s along the lines of bridal make up being ‘you’ but a really good version of you. I don’t really like lace, it can look cheap in my opinion. The lace on that dress must’ve cost a fortune and been of the highest quality but I think the full face and bars of blusher cheapened it and made it look like lace can. If that makes any sense at all!

      • WithTheAmerican says:

Arrogant Karens are always the first to “redo” professional make up. They believe they are an expert at everything, and end up looking like Kate did here with that heavy liner looking horrible on TV.

      • Dee says:

Kate, as usual, having all kinds of resources at her fingertips, but not using them.

    • Maria says:

The Sarah Burton for McQueen dress was a mix of Grace Kelly and Isabella Orsini’s gown that Kate ripped off.
That said, it was still pretty.

Yes, Bobbi Brown makeup artist Hannah Martin did the Middleton ladies’ makeup for the day, but Kate rubbed hers off and reapplied it herself.

    • Lizzie says:

I was disappointed. She looked like she did every other day. The neckline is somehow off otherwise the dress is fine. But there was nothing special, in my view at least.

  7. Bunny says:

Looking at their wedding picture, Kate desperately needs to stop botoxing her forehead so much. Her outer eyebrows weren’t nearly as arched ten years ago. Not a good look at all.

  8. Cecilia says:

I cannot wait for this anniversary to come and then be done with.

And i agree with kaiser. Until william has found someone better that he is willing to risk his reputation for, he’s not getting rid of kate. She’s willing to out up with all his antics and in return she gets all the fawning media attention, the money and the tiara’s.

    • swirlmamad says:

It’s why they married in the first place. He couldn’t find someone else to take on the role then, and it’s highly unlikely he’s going to find anyone now (the man is on the edge of 40, set in his ways and even more incandescent and ragey than ever — I doubt he’s considered any more of a catch now than he was in his 20s when he actually had hair and some of his mother’s looks still).

      • Cecilia says:

The only way there might be a divorce is if somebody leaks about the affair and provides the necessary receipts (like texts) to prove that it did happen. But then what news outlet would want to write about it? Wiliam made sure to threaten them before they could even think about it.

Another way this affair might come to light is of w&k seriously piss of the UK press. Which is why i think that harry was right: the royals are trapped

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Cecilia, even if someone *does* leak it now, with Brexit, Baldimort doesn’t have the protection of the EU courts of Human Rights to appeal to. He IS at the mercy of the BM. And unless he throws them some *good* fresh meat, they’ll go with the juicier story. Always. And he knows that!

      • Maria says:

Nah. He still has his status and privileges and the focus on a second wife would be far more relaxed since she won’t be having kids or anything like that. I’m sure he would have an easier time finding someone else who was willing than the first time around.

  9. Pétulia says:

It’s so obvious that all this woman want is to be taken care of and not work for the the rest of her life. That it makes me wonder why did she go along with her mother’s plan to bag a prince.

    • swirlmamad says:

Because she made the mistake of not thinking past the fairytale wedding and didn’t even consider the MARRIAGE. She likely also made the error of thinking that once she officially bagged him and they were legally bound to each other, he would change.

      • Robin says:

Exactly. I don’t think she ever thought beyond the wedding day. She was so obviously immature in this regard, ie the “princess got married and lived happily ever after” nonsense. And by virtue of having a mother and family who encouraged her along this path, she didn’t have the chance of being sat down and talked to, and hopefully out of, marrying into this life and the expectations of it. Such a stupid thing to have done. She’d be far happier living as an executive wife in London or preferably something like a lawyer’s wife in the home counties. She must envy her sister so much.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Quite clear, as she said in that interview once (when wearing that insipid little, short dress with the Peter Pan collar) that “The Queen and William take good care of me…” It was like she was 8 yrs old.

  10. Ginger says:

I didn’t watch their wedding when it happened because I had to work. I tried to watch it after Harry and Meghan’s wedding and I couldn’t get past 5 minutes. Once you watch Harry and Meghan’s, it’s hard to watch another royal wedding. Will and Kate looked SO stiff and like they barely knew each other (even though they have been together 10 years)

    • Amy Bee says:

I didn’t watch when it happened either. I had no interest in the Royals. I only watched the wedding after watching Harry and Meghan’s and it was so boring I think I skipped through the video.

    • Christine says:

You can really say that again. Meghan and Harry’s wedding was such a cheesy show of true love, I have no idea how any royal wedding can ever compare again. I was weeping into my cup of tea, wearing a paper fascinator my son made, and I was even belting out God Save the Queen by the end. The way they looked at each other. Le sigh.

  11. Lauren says:

10 years later and all she has to show for are pie charts, a garden, an exhibition, a family order (which she got after years of keening) and a couple of charities that had to close because they lacked funding.

  12. Me says:

The more I see of these two, the more I’m struck by how utterly basic they both are. There’s not one interesting idea between them.

  13. Tessa says:

I remember not liking that they brought trees into Westminster Abbey.

  14. Lainey says:

I would be willing to bet these two are two of the most miserable people on the planet. All the articles about how perfect and loving they are is the calling card of everything is FU*KED!!

    • luna says:

I completely agree. I feel sorry for Kate because she really doesn’t have a choice. She has to live with a husband who doesn’t love or respect her from the beginning. He cheats on her at every chance probably, and even if she is okay with him cheating now, she doesn’t get to screw around like him, let alone have the chance to have a loving relationship with someone else. And she met him when she was very young. Like Diana, all her life was based on a foolish mistake she made when she was very young, and neither family cared about their daughter more than power. I don’t think she has the agency to act independently on any issue, she just does what she is told. It’s clear that’s why she’s so focused on her children and her family, that’s all she has.

When it comes to William, he is so easy to read. He is an entitled bastard who resents his fate for the responsibility and spotlight and trying to make peace with it by utilizing his narcissistic, egoistic tandencies because he never got the chance to develop himself apart from his royal identity, much like uncle pedo – and unlike his brother. That’s where all the rage is coming from. The only solution is to break away from his world views and accept that monarchy is irrelevant in this age. Which would destroy his grandmother’s legacy in their eyes. So no way out for him.

      • Tessa says:

Kate was not “very young” when she married. William kept her waiting for years and during that time she did not have any career to speak of nor real full time work experience. She was 29 and in a few months she’d be 30. Diana was a teen when she accepted Charles proposal and barely out of her teens when she married Charles. Even so Diana had a window of opportunity where she actually went out and worked, although part time jobs she got the experience of responsibilities, she helped out at a kindergarten and worked as a nanny for a couple. Kate got a University degree but skipped out on work for months going on vacations and going to clubs with William. Only after the Queen allegedly asked what she did she settled for a part time job with very flexible hours at Jigsaw. She quit after William broke up with her about a year later and never returned. She helped out at Party Pieces but her mother would not give her real deadlines, she had much time to again go on vacations and clubs with WIlliam. It was not full time. She was not forced to lead this lifestyle she chose it. I don’t feel sorry for her since the way she treated Meghan and made trouble for her beginning with not denying the “crying” stories.

      • Nic919 says:

If Kate wanted to she could get a divorce. She chooses to tolerate his behaviour. Diana was princess of Wales when she was divorced and so a precedent was set. It can be done. She also chose to participate in a media attack against her sister in law so she is not some innocent victim. She is complicit and fully aware of the choices she is making.

      • Jaded says:

Kate had all kinds of choices – during their frequent breakups she could have started seeing someone else, bagged herself a rich guy and led the lazy life she prefers. However she seemed obsessed with marrying Willnot and doormatted for him for a decade until he gave in. During that 10 year period she dropped any little bit of work she had the minute he snapped his fingers so I don’t feel sorry for her in the least. She’s been unwilling and unable to step up to the role she married into and that’s horribly selfish considering the lifestyle she gets to lead on the taxpayer’s dime.

      • Dee says:

Don’t forget she was a yacht girl for three months, serving drinks in very tight shorts.

  15. Tessa says:

It also comes with a sort of put down of Diana. Only 20 etc etc. Diana had a work ethic and did not get lots of excuses for not doing work required. Kate was pushing 30 and she had all these excuses made for not working more. Marrying later should have given Kate a chance to develop a work ethic, get skills in work by getting a real job pre wedding. She spent those ten years being available and when necessary working to “win him back.”

    • Nic919 says:

Kate was supposed to “hit the ground running” but that got dialled back within months of the ceremony. They worked hard at coming up with different excuses to explain why neither was doing much of anything and here we are a decade later and they still do very little.

      • swirlmamad says:

Meanwhile, look what happened to the duchess who actually DID “hit the ground running”. They undermined and tried to trip her up right out of the gate, all because the other one is incapable of doing her job.

      • notasugarhere says:

A little over a week after the wedding, a press release was issued that she’d focus on being a housewife in Wales. With four full-time staff including housekeeper and cook.

  16. Alexandria says:

Used to be mindless gossip 10 years ago talking about these 2. Now I’ll never forgive this couple for exploiting a dead woman and torturing a pregnant woman. They deserve hell.

Only TOB will divorce Keen and only if someone is willing to be his wife. One of his alleged affairs involve a lawyer. Can’t imagine a lawyer giving up her career to be his doormat. TOB probably likes the thrill of being with intelligent, strong women but not be their husband. And the thrill of affairs is always alluring. These two will be stuck with each other. So cheers and stay together KKKambridges. You two stupid people deserve each other so much.

    • Lady D says:

I identify so much with your first paragraph, Alexandria, and I think a lot of us are in the same boat. So much hope for her and she turned out evil.

  17. Bren says:

W&K should have laid low for a few weeks and leaned into their 10-year wedding anniversary PR instead of launching a reckless PR campaign in response to the interview. They made it worse and basically proved Meghan’s point. That’s all they had to do, but their insecurities won out.

    • Nic919 says:

I agree. They would have had instant goodwill for their anniversary but not after a month of exploiting a dead woman and the most ridiculous PR.

    • Becks1 says:

Exactly. The entire royal family had built-in PR campaigns waiting for them – the Queen’s 95th birthday this month, the Cambridges 10 year anniversary, Philip’s 100th birthday coming up – they should have just ignored the interview after the statement was released and leaned in hard into these PR pushes.

Instead, Kate is Che Guevara and William is a wanna be military dictator getting dragged on twitter by the Rock and Mike Tyson. So that worked out well.

  18. Oh says:

I hope British people focus on these two and their “happy” marriage and leave H&M alone.

  19. Tessa says:

I’m not buying the issue. There probably will be pictures of Harry as third wheel with Will and Kate.

  20. equality says:

Where is the whining about wedding costs like there would be if the article was about H&M? And an RAF flyover for the wedding? Isn’t that unnecessary if you are an environmentalist and concerned about global warming?

  21. S808 says:

I’m still team “They’ll never divorce”. I just don’t see it happening. They’re both what each other wants imo and think they need.

    • JT says:

I don’t think they are what each other wants. Kate for certainly wants/needs him, as she has absolutely nothing without him. I don’t think William wants Kate and hasn’t for a long time. The way he looks at her is just awful and it’s the same way Charles looked at Diana. I think William thinks he does need her though, for now at least. His family man image is all he has right now. If he would’ve put as much energy into work and a major initiatives like Charles and Harry, he wouldn’t be so dependent on his image.

But I cannot for sure say that they won’t divorce. They just have too many skeletons behind the scenes, just bursting to get out. People thought Charles and Diana wouldn’t divorce and we know how that played out.

      • swirlmamad says:

Agree — I believe Will believes he NEEDS Kate, but he doesn’t WANT her. He’s probably resigned himself to “it is what it is” and will continue to do what he damn well pleases. Like countless men who cheat on their wives but aren’t willing to divorce because then it gets too hard and they don’t want to go it alone. And she will take it and continue to not say a word for the next 10, 20, 30 years because if she does, the whole sham falls apart and she’s left with nothing because she’s made nothing of herself aside from bearing his children and that’s it.

    • Maria says:

I don’t think he wants or needs her at all at this point.

I used to be convinced they would never divorce because they were useful to each other but the desperate pieces conflicting with his own PR narrative have made me think maybe he’s ready to do just that.

    • Robin says:

I agree, S808. I don’t think they’ll get divorced. Unless the UK starts getting rid of the royal family, at which point Kate and William will finally do as they want and split. That isn’t going to happen, either, not for years.

    • Carabella says:

Agree. They’re like co-dependents. I can’t see divorce happening unless 1) she keeps really embarrassing him and 2) he does the midlife break for freedom thing.

  22. Amy Bee says:

The funniest part of this article was ‘she does the enchiladas’ LOL. And about the wedding being modern…er…no. It was the very same boring traditional wedding that others in the family had before.

    • Lorelei says:

The enchiladas cracked me up too! I have no idea why, it just seemed like such a random reference that came out of left field. I don’t think we’ve ever heard of Kate having anything to do with enchiladas before, lol.

      • JT says:

I think it’s just more of the “I have a black friend” excuse, but this time it’s with Latin food. See, we like all of the ethnics.

    • Sunday says:

LOL came here to say this. Thank goodness we haven’t been subjected to the culture crime horror show that enchiladas made by Kate Middleton would undoubtedly be. To them “enchiladas” are probably when someone accidentally seasons their beans on toast.

    • Harper says:

Didn’t David and Moira make enchiladas on Schitt’s Creek? They had the whole meltdown about folding in the cheese. Kate and Carol-with-an-e must be binging Schitt’s at Anmer and that’s why they think making enchiladas is suddenly relevant and part of Kate’s middle-class co-splay.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

So glad I’m not the only one who thought, “Lord save us from Kate’s under-seasoned enchiladas….”

  23. Ginger says:

I always thought it was odd that they invited a group of friends to their honeymoon. Will really can’t stand to be around Kate alone.

    • luna says:

They were friends for 10 years, probably as a big friend group. My friends did the same thing and we didn’t think it was weird at all. It’s not like they were blindly in love or obsessed with each other or something.

    • Nic919 says:

I have never heard of going on a honeymoon with a group of friends. It is weird and shows they didn’t want to spend much time together alone. You do the group hang in high school and university when you can’t afford to travel without getting a group discount, but no adults in a serious relationship plan a honeymoon this way. It demonstrates that they were still very unserious people at 29.

      • Ginger says:

I agree Nic. I have never heard of this and just find it odd. I love my friends but I would never invite them to my honeymoon. You celebrate with your friends at the reception. The honeymoon is your time as a couple, alone. But, to each their own, I guess.

      • swirlmamad says:

Yeah, I have to agree here. It is definitely NOT the norm to spend your honeymoon with other people — it’s your first time to be alone after the craziness of your wedding. Not very intimate and romantic to party it up with friends!

    • February-Pisces says:

Remember kate doesn’t actually have any friends, so whatever friends they took would have been willies. Sounds like Willie wanted a lads holiday instead of a honeymoon. If I was kate I would have been pissed off.

      • anotherlily says:

I looked at the guest list because someone on the DM had claimed that most of the guests were the couple’s family and friends. This is so untrue. There were nearly 2,000 guests and most were in the categories of foreign royalty, politicians, diplomats, Commonwealth representatives, armed forces, reigious leaders etc. There were also many celebrities e.g. the Beckhams. William’s family list included almost all his living relatives. Kate’s was confined to the Middleton side of her family apart from Uncle Gary Goldsmith with his wife and daughter. Friends of William and Kate were included in one list and almost all of the 150 or so listed were William’s friends, including former girlfriends. Kate had just 4 friends at the wedding.

Kate’s 4 friends were from her school or university days. Most women of her age would have friends and colleagues from their working life.

      • notasugarhere says:

Any ‘friends’ Kate had listed were people she targeted and cultivated because they could get her in to William’s circle.

The Midds weren’t limited. They had a huge number of seats to fill, but because no one likes the family and Carole cut off most of her relatives? They ended up inviting people like the local pub owner who didn’t even know them.

  24. Lorelei says:

I know this is not the point, but do none of the sycophants at People realize how ludicrous it sounds to say, “To help, they’ve been given use of the Queen’s Sandringham country house, not far from their Anmer Hall home” when Amner Hall is an enormous ten-bedroom mansion?

    • equality says:

Especially silly when they have in the same article how they are taking care of the children. How are they taking care of them from another residence?

    • Becks1 says:

It just screams out of touch. So many people are working from home with their kids and dont have access to granny’s country mansion/estate. We’re on top of each other, dining room tables are school desks and office desks, etc – but thank goodness the Cambridges can use Sandringham when they need to.

also look at the terminology there – Sandringham is the queen’s country “house”, Anmer Hall is referred to as a “home” – nothing about how big those places actually are. How many bathrooms?!?!?!

    • Harper says:

They’ve read the gossip that Will is living on his own at Sandringham so they are spinning it their way for this article.

  25. aquarius64 says:

Given what has come out in the Oprah interview and after I wonder if any would buy this issue. I am still surprised Will didn’t show up at the wedding rehearsal. You know Kate and the Middletons/ Boleyns were panicking; wondering if he got cold feet. Or worse having a one for the road.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

      ???!!!!

Wait!!! Will DID NOT TURN UP for the wedding rehearsal???? I don’t remember this at all!!! Tell me more!

      • Becks1 says:

Yup, did not show up. There are pictures of Kate and her mom and Pippa either on their way to or from the rehearsal – the pictures of Kate in the black dress with the short white coat (actually a cute look) waving outside the hotel. William didn’t attend, I remember that clearly, because I think it was kind of a mystery what he was doing – the Queen hosted a big reception that night for….world leaders? Maybe just other royalty? (that looked like the fun reception though, I remember Letizia’s dress was gorgeous) and obviously William didnt go to that, didnt go to his rehearsal.

I also remember that his vows did not include a promise to be faithful.

      • Harper says:

I’ve seen photos of a daytime rehearsal with Harry standing in, and then another nighttime one with them leaving the church and in a car with Will. Maybe Will thought there were just too many and Kate was happy to have a mini-wedding rehearsal with Harry anyway since he was her dream groom? Nevertheless, what else was Will doing that he couldn’t be at every rehearsal?

      • Nic919 says:

I don’t know if I knew that but it is not a good sign for the groom to skip the rehearsal. He doesn’t have an actual job that would make him busy with other things. There really were a lot of shenanigans going on that the press kept generally quiet.

      • February-Pisces says:

@harper lol I bet kate absolutely loved harry stepping in as the groom. Lol

      • notasugarhere says:

W&K refused to do polite/politic reception invitations for people like visiting royals. The Queen ended up having to have her own event that evening for the visiting royals instead.

  26. Phoenix says:

I remember that my mom was watching their wedding and called me to go and see the bride and my words were “naaah, I don’t like her”. But I was 20 years old. And I still dont care much. My other memory of her was when she gave birth to George (may be, or was it Charlotte?) And my mom again called me to see her and told me that she was dressed similar to Diana when she gave birth to William. And thats it. My only memories of Kate before Meghan entered the family. Thanks mom! Lol
Never tought of her as an inspiration as a woman, bride, future queen, fashion queen, never paid attention to her coats, hair or work.
PS: Mom now is a hardcore suporter of Meg and Harry 😎

    • Commonwealthy says:

      Yay, mom!

I haven’t been able to convince my cousin to abscond from Cambridgeland, but she went to uni in the UK and it’s all very personal to her. After Thee Interview she’s finally able to admit Meghan was treated unfairly by the press, but can’t accept the BRF’s complicity and is salty about Meghan (not really Harry) for bringing negative publicity to the BRF. We used to joke goodnaturedly about Cambridges v Sussexes, but after she dismissed Meghan and Harry’s claims against the BRF we don’t talk royals anymore. She cares about the whole royal family, especially the Queen, whereas I was a pro-Diana casual William, Harry, Kate watcher until 2018. I went to college in the States, I wonder if that’s a factor? We’re black millenial women in a commonwealth country, in a family where no one cares about the royals except for us, lol. So, yeah, it’s not just white Leave voters supporting the monarchy’s magic show of lies.

    • A says:

Yeah, Kate was always a let down. I remember when she was just a girlfriend. I looked her up at one point to see who William was dating, and it must have been around the time that she had broken up with him. I remember seeing pictures of her and thinking she was just so boring, and I knew next to nothing about her then. I remember when William and Harry put on that concert for Diana or w/e, and the commentators were talking abt how there was speculation that Kate and William were maybe back together, and that Kate could be seen sitting in her row, “looking fondly down at William.” I remember them going on about how she’s soooooooo well-connected, how her family is just SUCH GOOD FRIENDS with Camilla’s, and how they have lunch together practically every weekend. And I just instantly felt like I didn’t like her somehow, LOL. And this is just from cursory details picked up w/o paying much attention over the years.

  27. Dee says:

In the run-up to the wedding, magazines had drawings of possible dresses that were fabulous. When Kate appeared in that gown, I thought, “Huh.’ Big disappointment. It’s a remix of Margaret’s dress. Those cone boobs! The details in the skirt didn’t “read” on TV. The makeup and the veil were way too heavy and the bride and groom were smirking like they were play acting. It all felt very shallow and insincere.

  28. line says:

I never liked their wedding ceremony because the atmosphere throughout the ceremony was cold and impersonal. I had preferred the Swedish weddings of Victoria, Madeleine and Carlz-philip then those of Maxima and Letizia.

    • ArtHistorian says:

I’ve watched all the Scandinavian royal weddings – and Will and Kate’s wedding was just so boring and emotionally cold in comparison! The most emotional wedding was probably Victoria and Daniel because they really had to fight to get permission to marry – but even Frederik of Denmark shed a very visible tear when he saw his bride. I though the difference was just the Windsors generally being a bunch of giant sticks in the mud – but then I saw Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

      • notasugarhere says:

I love the boat rides for the Swedish weddings. The only bit I don’t like are the cheesy pop songs in the middle of the church service.

  29. MsIam says:

So the separate houses thing is officially out in the atmosphere now…. Hmmm. And what an odd thing to say that they were given another large house to “help” Help what? Hmmm?

    • Lorelei says:

@Msiam, right? A small group of hardcore followers (us, lol) have heard the rumors about them living separately, but it’s not something most people are aware of, so I wouldn’t think they’d want to draw attention to by putting it out there in People magazine? And on a practical level, it doesn’t even make sense.

      • A says:

The detail about them living separately, and how William and Kate don’t spend too much time together, have been cropping up in a number of embiggening articles about them over the last couple of years. It always seemed like Kate was in Anmer with the kids and her mother, while William was in London at KP all on his own, to do who knows what with himself. The fact that they have separate country homes is a bit of a newer, more interesting detail, that only really came up during the pandemic, which begs a ton of questions with intriguing possibilities for answers.

    • Rapunzel says:

It helps them stay together if they aren’t together.

  30. Sofia says:

Man was I so excited for their wedding and Kate in general. Little did I know how I would feel 10 years later lol. It’s been 10 years and I still love her dress so it has aged well. She looked great in it even if her makeup was off.

As for divorce I doubt it. I mean, never say never because most of us never saw all of this (referring to the current state of the royals) happening in 2011 but still, I say no divorce. Unless, like Kaiser said, William finds someone else. Which is going to be difficult because most women, especially the aristos and after seeing what happened to Meghan, aren’t going to trade in their lives for intense scrutiny, constant judgement, intense rules and protocols, constant comparisons to Meghan, Diana, Kate and even Camilla as part of the whole “second wives for the heir” club along with “evil stepmother” stories involving the Cambridge kids. Not to mention having to deal with William.

Yes there will always be women who go “it’ll be different for meeeeeeee” but the question is: will William want to marry them? Also I’m sure there’s a lot of Carole wannabes prepping their Kate wannabe daughters to go after George and Louis (despite the fact they’re just kids)

I still think a better question is, will anyone want to marry William? They didn’t the first time around, when he had hair and some semblance of good looks. Who’s to say they’ll want to do it now?

  31. Sarah says:

I was on bedrest with my third pregnancy at the time so my mom came up and we watched it. It was very fun!

  32. Cait says:

Wow I forgot how bad her makeup was.
LOL in her mind she has worked very hard, all that waitying.
Again, cannot wait for republic. These people have no relevance to my country.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

She apparently did her wedding day makeup herself – story is she wiped the professional make up off as she wanted Willileaks to recognise her at the alter. Make of that what you will!

You can always tell when a professional has done her make up – she looks good.

  33. Liz version 700 says:

Are they trolling her? There have to be 100’s of pictures but the cover pic is the one where her eyes look like they are sliding down her face? She looked lovely on her wedding day (minus the raccoon makeup l) but that pic is interesting.

  34. Rapunzel says:

So…they basically admit a second house helps them put up with each other and not divorce. Interesting anniversary detail.

Seriously though, I wonder sometimes if the kids are what really drive Wills nuts. Gan Gan Betty doesn’t like them either. I’ve always thought that the kids might have been a huge problem for the Cambridge marriage. Like, Wills checked out because he doesn’t want to be Dad and live with a wife and house full of kids. I feel like the cracks in their marriage first showed when George was born and keep getting wider with each child.

Those poor children don’t seem to have a father that really loves them. And it’s sort of obvious.

    • Harper says:

I read that Will was at a country house party and Kate was with her parents when she had her severe morning sickness. Supposedly the Middletons called him and made him come to Bucklebury to take her to the hospital for the optics. It’s this kind of tea that makes me think the ten-year marriage contract rumor was the compromise to get Will to the altar with Kate. Ten years seems like forever when you are in your twenties, and anything can happen. Will takes off on his own all the time which is very odd in a normal marriage so that must be part of the deal.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

And who will forget that photo op with George, when he was 6 mos. old… and Kate said Will “hadn’t bee around much” during those first 6 mos. she was with her parents.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Cain didn’t drive her to the hosp, she drive herself and made sure to tip that paps off so they could catch her driving herself into the hosp. That always struck me as idd considering we kept being told her sickness was bad but she was still well enough to drive 2 hours from Norfolk to London and mug for the paps (in full makeup).

That was a pure PR stunt calling Willian to heal as he was off partying with other women while she was at her parents.

      • notasugarhere says:

He was off hunting. As Digital Unicorn wrote, she drove herself past two hospitals to get to the one where Tanna was waiting. Absolutely a PR stunt with fake HG.

    • A says:

I think William, like a lot of men, like the idea of having a family for the aesthetic. They like the idea of being a father of a brood. The idea of having a home and a beautiful family image to take Christmas pictures for. I think William has also idealized the perfect family image in his mind, because he didn’t have one growing up himself. His home was broken, and he’s always come off like he is incredibly bitter and cheated by that experience. William has always associated having a perfect family with an intact marriage at the center with stability. Carole Middleton always put out PR pieces bragging about how she and the Middletons are the warm, happy, stable family William always wanted growing up, and never got, bc the Windsors are all cold and cruel to each other. William never really went out and dispelled those stories either, and tbh, I believe it’s bc there was some truth in that for him too.

But, I think that you’re right too. I think the realities of daily life as a parent have no charm for William at all. I think he loves his kids, and spends time with them, but he doesn’t do any of the actual work that needs to be done when you have three young kids. He’s left the day-to-day up to Kate, and Carole Middleton, bc he finds it boring/tedious/not fun. I think he wants to be a dad, but not an actual dad. A dad for the fun Pinterest shots, but not a real dad who does the actual work in the trenches.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate doesn’t do the day-to-day. They have a housekeeper, cook, cleaners, and three nannies.

  38. Wow says:

Their wedding day was the most interesting she’s ever been.

  39. Amelie says:

She wasn’t the first commoner to marry into the family/House of Windsor. The first commoner to marry an heir I guess? Wasn’t Sophie the first proper commoner to marry in when she married Edward? Semantics, but Kate wasn’t even the first commoner to marry a grandchild of the Queen’s, that was Autumn Kelly.

I remember being so excited to watch the wedding too! What a fun day that was. Over the last decade, I did slowly come to the realization Kate would always be a huge disappointment and that William is incandescent among other things. But goes to show it doesn’t matter who is getting married in a royal wedding, it’s always going to be a huge deal regardless of how uninspiring the people are. Also, it’s 10 years of marriage but these two have been together for about 20 years! That’s insane to me.

    • Lizzie says:

I thought Fergie was a commoner.

    • MsIam says:

Diana and Fergie were commoners, too. So was Margaret’s husband. Anne’s husband. I guess they are referring to Carole’s family because she was not part of the aristocracy.

      • Jaded says:

Lady Diana Spencer was technically a commoner when she married Charles but she was an aristocrat who’d been born into a noble family (you can trace her family back to King Charles II) that had been a part of English and Scottish history for centuries, so being a commoner didn’t make her common by any means. Fergie was a true commoner — her father was a polo manager, initially to the Duke of Edinburgh and later, for many years, to the Prince of Wales.

    • notasugarhere says:

Queen Mum was technically a commoner too.

  40. Susie says:

I have to say I disagree with Kaiser here. I’ve said it before but I think Kate *can* be a future spoiler/disrupter if William isn’t careful. The 2 things we know about Kate is she is crazy competitive/goal oriented when SHE chooses to be and she *LOVES*her kids. Right now the Sussex’s are the opponent the Cambridge’s team up against but I truly believe between American media protecting the golden goose and eventual distance in time and space the Brit media is not going to have any credibility with the public and move on to the new exciting generation (again I’m talking YEARS). The RR know the dynamic with the Sussex’s is going to change and they don’t have anything to fill in the decade long gap that’s why they are being so unhinged right now.
So 10+yrs from now what does Will do (also does he spend those 10 years going after Kate building her resentment?)
When he is finding new rose bushes will be throw a newly popular George or Charlotte under the bus. unfortunately it’s not only an option it’s one he will be supported by the courtiers and staff. Maybe in this one space Will decides to be the opposite of his father but idk. Does Kate sit back or does the mom who genuinely and obviously loves her kids finally find her version of a Sussexit. It doesn’t help that Will has given her a cemetery’s worth of dirt. If Kate is having affairs she keeps it LOCKED DOWN. Will is messy and even Cambridge fans will very easily believe it. Honestly I can’t even predict what Kate will do but on an emotional and a strategic/power level it will be smarter to pick her kids over her husband. Also it’s may be more “powerful” to be wife of the king but it’s safer to be mom of the king. Will can get rid of the middletons George can’t.

Also Will can’t leave kate easily cuz most royalist fans are women and a balding dude with multiple cheating rumours doesn’t present as well as a single mother protecting her kids.
I’m NOT saying Kate WILL do this but the Sussex’s took themselves out of play. So while they will always be interesting just by virtue of being smarter and more charismatic, their main battle ended when they left for Cali. Will is fighting against opponents who have left the field. Kate and the kids(ugh the royal family is horrible to it’s kids) are still present and eventually the RR are gonna start calling in favours for a dating George’s and partying Charlotte and Louis. What those kid’s parents decide to do when they are no longer kids (and easily managed) is a really interesting if dark question.

    • A says:

Kate loves her kids–but does she love them enough to potentially derail her ambitions to be Queen? She didn’t marry William to have kids with him. She married him bc he’s the FFK, and she wants to be the Queen. That is her end goal. That’s why she is why she’s staying married to him. She wants to be Queen. She wants to be the mother of the future king. She wants her and her family’s place in the structure and the future of the monarchy to be iron clad, and part of ensuring that is not only staying married to William, but also preserving the monarchy as an institution long enough for her to obtain her goal.

You’re right that Kate is crazy determined and goal oriented when she chooses to be, but it’s important to remember what her goals actually ARE. She stalked this man for 10 years for a purpose, and it wasn’t her kids. Her kids weren’t even a consideration then. The reason she hasn’t Sussexited isn’t bc of her kids. I don’t doubt she loves her children, and loves being a parent, but her kids are also the currency that cemented her position in the family. So far, chica hasn’t shown herself to have much of a heart when she feels like her reputation and status as future Queen have been threatened. We don’t know if that will extend to her kids, and only time will tell, but judging by her actions in her life so far, it’s not really looking too good on that front tbh.

    • notasugarhere says:

The Middletons can choose to go quietly, or choose to have all their business spread across the tabloids. When William wants her gone, she’ll be out of the picture. If she wants a monetary settlement, she’ll stay quiet.

  41. Maria says:

Their wedding was cold, boring, unemotional.
    I liked her dress though.
I really think she is trying to coast on the euphoria of that day for the rest of her life. The buildup of her image leading up to it was insane. She’ll never be that loved or applauded again.
No, he did not look at her except one brief glance looking down the aisle. Her father lifted her veil. William dropped her hand like a hot stone after the vows. He didn’t even help get into the carriage.

And I think their marriage is over. Or close to it. I always thought she was too useful as a doormat for William to want to divorce and she makes the family-man image easy for him. But all these puff pieces which are getting humiliating are making me wonder if he is just done. She will never leave of her own accord so these desperate pieces seem like her status is in trouble. And honestly she’s becoming an embarrassment with the vigil and that Times article to the level that I think even he can see it.
Anyone who thinks he would have a hard time leaving her, I disagree. Look how well his tactics have worked in smearing Meghan among the people who still “support” him. He will use everything he can to make sure Kate does not get public sympathy. And why would she? The only reason she gets it now is because she’s his wife. Once that’s gone, she’s no longer important for anything, especially since her kids aren’t babies anymore. And since he has already had children and done that dog-and-pony show of being a young newlywed and everything that comes with that, I can see a very specific type of woman being content to be his second wife in a way no other woman would have wanted to be for his first wife.

    • Nic919 says:

If Charles can for the most part rehabilitate his public image after a notoriously bitter divorce from Diana, then William can easily divorce Kate. She doesn’t have a fraction of the public affection that Diana did. And the ones who do like her do so because she doesn’t rock the boat. And they like her because she’s William wife and the royalists will support the institution over the individual.

      • Maria says:

        Agreed!

      • A says:

@Nic919, Charles didn’t fully rehab his public image though. Some parts of it have never recovered. William can try, & you’re right, he’d succeed in the long run, but I doubt he could ever fully hide the truth, if it ever came out. He has skeletons he wants buried, and Kate can open the flood gates on those, and that would probably have far graver consequences for him than anything he has on her. Kate could tell the truth, not just about his affairs, but also the fact that he is likely a Brexit-supporting, traditionalist dog-whistling, austerity supporting scum who pals around with reactionaries and Tory politicians, and can’t be counted on to concede even an inch of the privileges he’s afforded as a future monarch.

Kate could expose William’s behaviour and call into question his fitness to be king, and whether he can be trusted to execute his constitutional duties and not threaten democracy. This would threaten the future existence of the monarchy. A significant portion of the fallout from the Charles-Diana divorce were the questions about Charles’ fitness to be king, and whether the people even wanted a man like him to be their king. Even today, people see his future reign as something to endure. That damage hasn’t been repaired in all this time. He’s only really succeeded in rehabbing Camilla to the public, and he got a huge boost in that bc of Diana’s untimely death.

Kate’s reputational sins can’t provoke a constitutional crisis. What’s William really got on her that’s so bad? She’s a social climber, whose family fortune has dubious origins, whose uncle is a creep and a shady character. She’s a bully and a mean girl who stalked him to St. Andrews in order to bag a prince, even though he’s the dumb dumb that fell for it when he should have known better. For the British tabloid press, all of those are mortal sins if you’re a woman, but these are not things that can threaten political stability in the UK. She’s never cared about anything except being Queen, and she’ll do all she can to defend that future for herself with everything she’s got. William’s behaviour has likely been far worse, and I doubt he’d ever want the stuff she and Carole know abt him to see the light of day. There aren’t enough legal firms he could hire to threaten the press into silence if that were to happen.

On a more mundanely petty note–who would want William for anything more than an affair or fling? Even if nothing were to happen to Baldy’s rep, whoever he chooses to be with after Kate would get Camilla’d to hell and back, because they’re a woman, and women are always to blame and always to be reviled by the British press. Who the hell is left on that Brexit island who’d love Baldimort THAT much to want to risk that sht?

      • Nic919 says:

William has Uncle Gary and the rest of the Middleton shenanigans to use against Kate if he wants to. Uncle Gary is an actual criminal and who knows how Party Pieces made its money. William is the one deciding if they stay married or not. Kate never had the power here because she ceded it right from the outset of the dating years.

I don’t think William will divorce her yet because she tolerates the cheating and it’s more effort get rid of her right now. However if William ever does fall for a woman who actually wants to be with him publicly, then he will divorce Kate. And he can do it with impunity because the media will protect him and turn on Kate and the Middletons.

      • Maria says:

Charles did an excellent job rehabilitating his reputation. Part of it was from Diana’s death, yes, but you could argue there are two sides to that because the hagiographic attention to her is higher than it ever was when she was alive, so him being able to rehabilitate himself in spite of that legacy must be considered. There is a reason he is so upset about The Crown etc. It erodes the strides he’s made.

As we have seen with the crying story, there is apparently quite a lot Kate is capable of doing and manipulating behind the scenes. And as we have also seen her actions don’t even need to be particularly criminal to get bad press if William wants to go there. The Royal PR team savaged Diana for her land mine work and she was just trying to do public service. And it was more effective than a lot of people want to remember – tons of people said she was attention seeking etc.

It does not matter in the slightest what Kate might know about his skeletons. He’s the son of the Prince of Wales, the grandson of the Queen, and a counsellor of state. He would not need to hire tons of law firms to bury stories. As we have seen, he controls the press narrative. The Royals would band together to protect him the way they did Andrew – more so because William is second in line. And since she is so willing to be his doormat she is probably an accomplice in the presence of half of the skeletons that may be in his closet (she certainly was with the smear campaign and endangering of Meghan). He could throw her to the wolves on that alone.

      • Lady D says:

I’m with @A. She can do hardcore damage to that institution after being privy to 20 years of royal secrets. She also doesn’t need the press anymore, she has social media at her fingertips, no pun intended.

      • A says:

@Nic919, Diana used Charles’ behaviour in their private life to question his ability to reign as king. She hinted outright that he’s not fit for the job, and that part of his rep never recovered from that. The enthusiasm for Charles as king is incredibly lukewarm and has been for decades. He can rehab himself, he can rehab Camilla, he can rehab their relationship and marriage. But the questions abt his fitness to be king never went away, and they likely never will. That’s how easy it was for Diana to use Charles’ own behaviour against him, and it’s endured to this day. And that was just based on Charles’ actions in their private life.

I’m willing to bet that William has done things that Kate and the Midds are aware of that ACTUALLY make him unfit for the job as FFK. And I’m willing to bet they’ve had receipts on that from the start, to insure Kate’s position if need be. Uncle Gary is a criminal, but he’s ultimately a private citizen. William is not. He is a reactionary with little respect for things like democracy and equality in society. Out of the two of them, who do you sincerely believe is liable to cause more damage to British society?

Kate might be a doormat, but when the only thing she’s wanted in her life is on the line, why do we assume that she will go without a fight? I think she has the power and ability to seriously threaten William’s future as king, and I don’t think threatening to expose the truth abt uncle Gary would be enough to force Kate to consent to a divorce she doesn’t want. William has more power, yes, but he also has at least 10x more to lose than Kate. That is his weakness, and it’s exploitable.

      • Becks1 says:

So the issue isn’t just what Kate knows, its what the press is willing to cover. Look at the past few years – the press has gleefully attacked Meghan because they could, and because it sold papers. Kate’s fall from grace would also sell papers. Just because Kate has dirt on the royal family* doesnt mean the papers will print it -the papers know all that dirt too. And we’ve seen that the royal family and the papers play ball with each other. It would definitely be a matter of “Kate and the Middletons are fair game, you can EVEN mention Rose Hanbury, but nothing else.” and the Middletons would be toast. We’ve seen for years now how the papers hold themselves back when it comes to real reporting on the royal family. That wouldn’t change just because Kate talks to a reporter.

William divorcing Kate wouldnt jeopardize the future of the monarchy. TBH I’m not sure anything would. Haven’t we said here time and time again that it would be so messy and complicated for the UK to do away with the monarchy?

*I dont even think Kate knows that much dirt. Maybe she knows some stuff about William, sure, but nothing about the royal family on the whole. I feel like they keep her insulated and its for a reason. It would boil down to how much of an ahole William is in real life, or if any of the rumors about an illegitimate child etc are true. But even that – look at how William turned everything around on Meghan. Meghan is the bully, not William. Meghan wears blood jewels, not Kate.

ETA also – Charles divorced DIANA and that did damage his reputation. I dont think the british people feel a fraction of the love for Kate they feel for Diana, even to this day. Yes Charles took a hit from the divorce that he has never recovered from, not fully. But that was divorcing one of the most beloved women in history. It would play out very differently for Kate.

      • notasugarhere says:

I agree, Becks1. Kate doesn’t have Windsor secrets. With all the shady Uncle Gary money, the off-shore business, and the like? All William has to do is claim he was manipulated by the evil Middletons and that’s it. No one likes them, easy to tip the scales against the Midds.

    • CC2 says:

      I don’t think they’re close to over.

Think about it. If you’re William and you want to divorce but is afraid that you may be compared to Charles, what would you do?

Would you allow Kate to get puff pieces even if it’s over the top? Or would you slowly give crumbs to the press and give her some bad publicity here and there so when you leave, people will not feel sorry for her?

The day we start seeing negative Kate coverage (and I don’t mean lazy or boring, but her being mean) is the day we should probably start to feel a tad sorry for her because we know what’s coming.

      • Maria says:

I’ve been following their story for years. She was Waity Katy when I was in high school and I was in grad school in the UK when they got married. The press about her is notably different this time. Not just puff pieces, but they’re verging on the point of being Onion-esque articles. And they are conflicting with the ones he himself is putting out.

William would never be compared to Charles in this situation because the public doesn’t care about Kate at all, and he would be able to use her history of leaking to the press to improve his own standing. He could use the crying story to any advantage.

There HAS been negative coverage of Kate in some ways in past years before Meghan although absolutely nothing on the level of what Meghan got (kitchen renovations etc). But the stakes are higher now and social media is much more vicious. She can’t do her job, and now that Meghan is gone there is much more intense spotlight on Kate to replace her. She can’t. The Times article alone shows that!

And sorry, I will never feel bad for her about what she has done to help endanger and bully her pregnant suicidal sister-in-law. If he throws her under the bus, she will deserve what she gets (he deserves the same, but we know he won’t get it as the Heir).

      • A says:

@Maria, what’s interesting is that Kate puts out all those puff pieces about herself, and her relationship to William. But all the stuff William puts out about himself don’t reference or relate to her at all, except for a few throwaway lines about how he is a family man with a totally stable marriage. Kate embiggens herself by fashioning herself as William’s faithful helpmeet, while William embiggens himself in the press by making himself look like a powerful, forceful future king who makes tough decisions, and doesn’t spend time thinking about woke sht like emotions, or being nice to your brother/SIL. Even after all these years, Kate is chasing after William to prove herself useful to him, and William can’t spare much of a thought for her at all, and certainly not in a way where she has a significant impact on his life.

      • Maria says:

Exactly! That is what makes me convinced there is something going on behind closed doors. These battling PR narratives!

  42. Lizzie says:

  43. L says:

I only see eyeliner. You can’t even see here eyes?!

    • Delphine says:

The eyeliner! She and Pippa both over lined their eyes on the bottom for years. It always bothered me. Makes her eyes look so much smaller. And now I find out she did her wedding makeup herself.

  44. Beech says:

    Enchiladas huh? 😂🤣😅

  45. Julia K says:

In 10 years Kate will be almost 50 years old and the matronly mother of 3 teenagers, with a husband who doesn’t love her. That is decision time for them both. He will make the first move I predict. She will not go quietly.

    • The Duchess says:

Absolutely not. Her stage mother has invested far too much time into making sure Willy doesn’t wander too far, which we see with every disguised warning shot she does through Kate’s PR. A stage mother like that will never let her daughter go quietly.

      • Nic919 says:

William has the uncle Gary shenanigans if he wants to neutralize the Middletons. Carole cannot control that. She’s going to the media right now because William doesn’t care enough to stop it. But when he does want to stop it he will.

    • A says:

Nah. I expect they’ll make a bid to recycle their marriage as “modern” somehow to the eyes of the public. They’ll rewrite William’s cheating to make it seem like they have an open marriage, or they’ll create a whole narrative about how William strayed, but mistakes were made on both sides, but they went to marriage counseling and everything got fixed again bc they love each other or some dreck like that.

If they got divorced, William can’t keep the details of his cheating out of the press. And that would invite comparisons to Charles, which I do not think William would ever want. He has spent his whole life making himself out to be the anti-Charles in every sense. In the event of a divorce, the flood gates would open, and he’d get outed as a useless philanderer, just like his father. He could hire a thousand law firms and not be able to threaten the press into silence in that case. Staying married to Kate keeps all that sht on lock, at least until he passes.

The question isn’t whether William will leave if he finds someone better–it’s if whoever he finds is someone he wants to risk ruining his family man reputation for, which was basically the promise to the public that revived the monarchy. People didn’t want another Charles. They wanted to see a more humane, happy family side to the monarchy. The RF has a lot riding on proving that Charles is the aberration in his behaviour, rather than the norm, which is what would happen if William’s cheating ever got outed properly. Otherwise, people would question why an institution that summarily ruins relationships like this, and produces people who do things like that, needs to exist at all.

      • Nic919 says:

An open marriage would never be accepted by the conservative middle class who support the monarchy. Phillip has made sure to not have his mistress publicly known. The media class is aware but not the little Englanders.

    • Carabella says:

If he decides to divorce her, he’ll work with Charles. They’ll deliberately hold off naming him Prince of Wales. That way, Kate will be Duchess of Cambridge, but the new wife with be HRH The Princess of Wales.

  46. Amy Too says:

“ But at home, they are simply William and Kate.”

Remember one of those Meghan bashing articles that came out after the interview in which they tried to pull something like “OMG, Meghan called Catherine ‘Kate’ and that’s so disrespectful because her name is Catherine and it’s always been Catherine and everyone in the family knows her as Catherine because that’s the name she prefers and uses at home, and it’s just the press that have nicknamed her Kate, so Meghan, as a member of the royal family would have known how disrespectful she was being by calling her Kate instead of Catherine so she must’ve done it on purpose as a way to subtly insult Catherine.”

    • Robin says:

Yep. Tatler ironed that one out, making sure everyone knew “Catherine” was not how she was referred to until she got into the RF, and that people had to be reminded to stop calling her Kate. I don’t think KP managed to get Tatler to take that back.

  47. Cottage Cat says:

Christ almighty. The publicly, wife-beating, urinating “Uncle Gary” with all his “paid-for” connections really bigs up his Stepford niece

  48. Robin says:

And all the press fuss and mileage about Pippa as some kind of super sexy bridesmaid. It was pretty strange. I wonder whether that irked Kate?

    • Carabella says:

I think it definitely irked Kate that Pippa’s “pert” posterior upstaged the royal wedding. It’s why we got all the bare-cheeked butt flashing for years afterward.

      • LaraW” says:

I never made that connection before but it makes total sense!

The moment I knew the whole “modern princess” thing was a total lie was when Kate allowed her father to hand her hand to the minister and then to William. Nope-d out of there and went to bed. (Was watching it recorded.)

  50. A says:

It’s really strange to me how people insisted both then and now that Kate is proof the royal family has modernized since Diana, all because Kate didn’t marry William at 19 years of age, wasn’t an aristocrat’s daughter who had been cloistered her whole life up to that point.

Kate and William have been together since she was 18 years old. He has been her only steady, long term boyfriend, for her whole damn adult life. She has never lived life as independent adult–she’s only cosplayed as one. She has never made any independent decisions for herself. She was basically what the royal family had wanted and expected with Diana–a young lady who could be controlled, whose entire adulthood could be reframed around the only significant, long term relationship she was ever expected to have.

Kate is basically Diana if Diana got a college degree, was brunette, and wasn’t born into an aristocratic family. Everything else is the exact same–find a young girl with little to no actual experience of life to hitch the heir to, teach her to dutifully be there for him, to take him back and provide him with a family, while he goes off to sow wild oats on the side for the rest of his life, and make him look good without overshadowing him.

What sort of statement is being made about the royal family modernizing, when the blue-blooded, well-bred aristocrat’s daughter was the one who bucked the script written by the traditional class system that privileged her so much, who called out everything that was wrong with it in the first place, who hugged AIDS patients and reached out to the working class and the poor and the most desperately needy, while the modern, “middle-class”, college-educated woman with “modern” sensibilities is the one who spent 10 years chasing after a man, and the rest of her time upholding traditional structures of power bc she now has a place in it?

What part of ANY of that is modern, exactly? The only thing she didn’t do was marry William when she was 19, although you can bet that she would have done that if she thought she had a chance to lock that sht down that early. Otherwise, the whole wedding and marriage is as traditional as it comes, and it always has been.

    • Carabella says:

Exactly right. Kate could be a bride from centuries ago: She’s no different from a merchant class suitably educated bride who marries into the aristocracy. The only difference is that instead of tutors/governesses at home teaching her to speak five languages, the harp or harpsichord, writing, painting, some philosophy and politics and horsemanship, she only knows her native language and was farmed out to an expensive boarding school and university where she didn’t learn much of anything at all (though she did meet the “right” people which was the point of the exercise). The monarchy will have a hard time proving itself relevant to the next generation.

I like Kate. So shoot me. I hope she finds herself one day. She has a domineering mother. She has married the most staid, stuffy and nasty institution you will find, and she loves her babies and will hang on as long as she can. She’s a good person. Her husband, not at all.

    • swirlmamad says:

So good she couldn’t find a sliver of sympathy in her cold, jealous heart to reach out to her SIL who was clearly suffering? Give me a break.

    • Becks1 says:

Well, I agree with you that she has a domineering mother, married into a staid and nasty institution, and loves her babies and will hang on as long as she can. I’m not sure those qualities make her a good person.

I will admit that I do hope Kate finds herself one day. I would love if it Kate turned 40, decided “eff this noise” and filed for divorce and took her kids and said “I will give my own oprah interview and I wont be as circumspect as Meghan” unless I get every penny you owe me. And then had a hot affair with an actor or something and started a charity that was actually effective and worthwhile etc.

She wont do it, too much work, but it would be fun to see.

      • Carabella says:

Most of that would never happen, but I can see her with an Onassis type in later life after Carole has gone.

Kate’s almost just the link between William and Carole (he needed a mother after all), mainly useful for providing them with the children/grandchildren they both wanted.

If she wakes up and realizes they’ve both used her, she’ll run into the arms of an Onassis.

    • notasugarhere says:

Kate is no victim here. She’s as conniving and calculating as her stagemother. Kate picked out The Prince, the whole family worked to land this business arrangement.

Just watched (only end 5 min) on ITV tonight Kate the future Queen -even those 5 mins was too much and get back to Equaliser.
But I think that special was like hour long

  53. Meg says:

Didnt they drive around Buckingham palace in a car with a just married sign in the back and cans string off the back bumper, isnt that an american tradition?

    • notasugarhere says:

Charles and Diana did something similar, as did Andrew and Fergie (Edward decorated the carriage).

  54. Carolind says:

I think Kate was beautiful on her engagement day but not so on her wedding day. Her make up was far too hard. She could have looked a lot nicer. I remember my mother saying she was “disappointing”. The skirt of her wedding dress was absolutely gorgeous with all its symbolism and was beautifully made. I detested the top though. Those cones were awful and the vee was too low. For the style of dress she should have had a bigger bouquet and bigger tiara. By the way, she apparently did not want to wear a tiara.

I loved the second dress apart from the chest emphasis. The little bolero she wore with it was not fur. It was fluffy wool like angora. It was like the boleros little girls in the 1960s wore to Christmas parties.

The photo of Kate, Carole and Pippa with her wearing the white jacket with the frilly edging was taken as they arrived at the Goering Hotel in London where the Middletons stayed the night before the wedding. If you look carefully you will see the frill is torn away from the jacket at one point!
