Did Duchess Kate & her kids really make a chocolate Easter cake for the Queen?

Royals Easter

You know what I was thinking about the other day? How Prince William skipped Charlotte’s first Easter in 2016. Charlotte had been born the year before, and William skipped the Easter celebrations with his family so he could fly down to Kenya to attend Jecca Craig’s wedding solo. He even tried to make it seem like work! It was bad. Those were some very strange headlines, but of course we’re no longer in an era when the press will even shadily call out the Other Brother. So how did Other Brother and Keen Guevara celebrate Easter this year?

Hoppy holidays! Prince William and Duchess Kate’s three children enjoyed “fun” Easter celebrations on Sunday, April 4, a source exclusively told Us Weekly.

Not only did Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, “surprise” Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip “with personalized Easter eggs, which they made and decorated themselves,” but they also baked “a delicious chocolate cake covered in mini Cadbury eggs” with their mom’s help.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, and her husband, 38, also organized an Easter egg hunt for the little ones. “They don’t allow George, Charlotte and Louis to have chocolate and sweets every day, so it was a real treat,” the insider explained on Sunday. With their eldest two children home on a school holiday at the moment, the duchess “has been busy keeping them entertained.”

The source told Us, “They enjoy family bike rides, playing tennis and George and Charlotte are taking horse riding lessons. Charlotte is obsessed with horses, just like her great-grandmother. It’s her favorite activity.” While Louis “wants to learn too,” his parents feel that the toddler “is still a little too young.”

[From Us Weekly]

Did Will and Kate take the kids to Windsor Castle for the holiday? I feel like the Cambridges are at Anmer Hall at the moment, especially given that it’s a school holiday for the kids. Whenever they have a holiday, Kate is at Anmer with the kids. And William is… somewhere. I swear, media outlets really are starting to suggest that William and Kate live apart these days. Anyway, if Kate and the kids were in Norfolk, then no, they didn’t visit the Queen in Windsor for Easter. Maybe they just sent the Queen a cake. Who knows. I wonder where William was.

Something else Easter-related: this completely weird chocolate-egg smash on the Kensington Palace social media. What is this?? I thought maybe in Britain, there could be some kind of weird holiday tradition where you smash a chocolate egg with a rolling pin, but that doesn’t seem to be the case? It’s just random violence against chocolate. WTF??

    ” Keen Guevara ” 😂🤣

    • TQ says:

      + 1
      Keen Guevara = LMFAO!!

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Great grandchildren bake a chocolate cake for their great grandmother. Hold the pages. Shades of the great christmas pudding stir photo op. As this is ‘work’ to the dolittles, I expect it will appear in the court circular.

      • Carmen-JamRock says:

Methinks the recent reveal of a certain lemon olive oil cake has a certain someone doing their usual SWF-ing.

ETA: And, oh yeah….the bicycle rides with the kids. So very me-too-ish.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

Haha! I just commented that this is their #metoo cake. How pathetic.

      • Madelaine says:

I first giggled at the expression their # me-too cake # but then, we have to face the fact that a white rolling pin is smashing a brown egg to smithereens, which from both a symbolical and psychoanalytical standpoint, sadly speaks volumes about the Cambridges’ utterly destructive subconscious wishes. This vision is unsettling to me. Perhaps they would well-advised to pay more attention to those unassuming details that give them away.

  2. TigerMcQueen says:

The first thing I thought when I read the story was “See! We ride bikes too!!!” Which is the Keens appropriating once again something from H&M, and also a subtle “If the Keen Kids can ride bikes, then Harry lied about not getting to ride bikes when he was young.”

  3. Lauren says:

The press used to be really shady with the duke and duchess of Dolittle. They used to call them out when they were out of the spotlights for too long, not working enough, taking too many holidays, spending too much, and so on. Those days have been long forgotten and now the Dolittle’s can do no wrong. There was so much goodwill around Keen in those first couple of years, but 10 years later and we still have nothing. The rota has taken issues with Meghan just for existing and daring to be black in an all-white institution even though she knocked it out of the park in the first year of marriage.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

The do nothings can only feed the press for so long. It won’t be long till the press set their sights on their laziness again.

      • Lyds says:

Keen Guevara, Top CEO, Queen of Zoom…

With all these titles, can people stop calling her Duchess Dolittle? She has done so much! I’m exhausted for poor Kate just thinking about how tiring it must be to update these positions onto her resume.

      • Virginia says:

@Elizabeth Regina Amén! I am waiting for that day!

  4. Cecilia says:

Tbh. The queen doesn’t strike me as the woman who would love such chocolate overload. I think there was a cake, but maybe it was for carole. Or maybe the Cambs ate it up themselves.

    • Watson says:

Apparently the queens favourite cake is chocolate biscuit cake so it’s possible she did eat this one. Minus the Cadbury eggs

      • Lady D says:

Those little Cadbury mini eggs are a struggle for me. I only eat them once a year at Easter, but I spend a ridiculous amount of time thinking about those little eggs. I make a few chocolates at Christmas and those are the only two times I eat candy, but I think about those eggs a lot. It doesn’t help that they are everywhere now.

      • paranormalgirl says:

I know! I am obsessed with them. That smooth melty chocolate and that pastel, slightly chalky exterior….

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I think the Keens are cosplaying Easter. It’s what they think their base expect of them. It’s all shades of see how close we are with the queen. They are trying to bask in some of her reflected glory seeing how they’ve been ridiculed lately online.

    • equality says:

She probably likes the chocolate but she has royal professional chefs, why would she be over-eager to have a child-baked dessert?

    • Vera says:

according to her chef, she does love chocolate

  5. PEARL GREY says:

Just how does Kate Guevara find the time to bake in between all the top CEOing and revolutionary activism?

I too have not forgotten how William skipped out on his daughter’s first Easter to go to watch the one that got away get married. He must hate that he can’t pull stunts like that anymore now that he desperately needs the “happily married family man” image more than ever. I’m surprised the kids didn’t also bake a separate cake for Granny Diana with a handwritten note. Kate must have been too busy organising guerrilla warfare to help them with that one.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Your comments made me laugh out loud. Poor keens. Being embiggened for literally nothing.

    • Bananie says:

@Pearl Grey YES! The Easter-Kenya Scandale! How short memories are! I had completely lapsed… and even more, I had forgotten details about Jecca herself.
In the context of the one-that-got-away narrative, this only super duper double confirms for me everything that is incandescently a-flame within that knobby jealous PWT.
From what I remember? Jecca = a motivated non-aristo-non-Brit (think she is Kenyan?) well educated actively engaged in creating an amazing conservation organizations and NGOs…. HMMMMMM I wonder why he is SO SALTY about Handsome Happy Harry living his BEST LIFE with a beautiful motivated non-aristo-non-Brit who is well educated and engaged in REAL SERVICE AND ACTION.
Lordt knows, if tantrum torn Wills can’t have what he wants NO ONE SHOULD.

      • Elizabeth says:

Jecca is white, wealthy, and only in Kenya as part of an English settler/colonizer family so, I don’t know that her background is similar to Meghan’s. It’s more like Will’s.

      • Bananie says:

        @elizabeth
        yes, that does make sense.
I guess the fairer correlation is Wills wanting what others have: genuine happiness…being SUPER salty when someone else is.

  6. Sunday says:

Well you see, Meghan made headlines for baking a lemon olive oil cake for volunteers in Chicago so Kate has to be a baker as well, and nothing as “California” as an olive oil cake, a good ole traditional chocolate cake. That’s literally the strategy convo that was had: “what should she bake, cupcakes? No, too minimal. Simnel cake? No, wouldn’t play well with the Americans. Best to stick to chocolate.” I’m just surprised they didn’t try to tie a Mary Berry recipe into the story.

    • Cecilia says:

Omg! I didn’t even make that link. Now that you point it out, this is exactly a copy of meghan. And they threw in “riding bicycles” for good measure too. How pathetic

    • Ginger says:

I also think she wants to be seen as having an
“in” with the Queen. Meghan mentioned calling the Queen up to see how Phillip was doing and that had to bug Kate. Now she bakes a cake for the Queen because they are close. We all know the Queen is not Kate’s biggest fan.

      • Cecilia says:

@ginger I honestly still believe that the queen dislikes kate and actually prefers meghan over miss keen

      • Becks1 says:

I think you’re right @Cecilia. When have we ever heard of someone else having a direct line to the Queen? (I’m assuming her kids do, but if Kate did, we absolutely would have heard about it by now.) Remember the video of the queen flat out ignoring Kate at Windsor this past winter.

The queen may appreciate that Kate keeps her mouth shut about William (i.e. getting the order for being quiet during the “rural rival” story two years ago) but I think its clear the queen does not appreciate her lack of work, laziness, and probably ineptitude when meeting world leaders.

    • Snazzy says:

Yes Sunday! You’re right – all that was missing was a Mary Berry recipe or a link to Bakeoff

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

You are so right. This is their #metoo cake. Very pathetic.

    • ABritGuest says:

Lol exactly this. Plus Didn’t someone predict after the interview discussed the Sussexes’ closeness with the Queen that we’d hear stories about the Cambridges closeness with her too?

I do love Kate’s outfit in this picture from that Easter service. Think that’s when Harry was blatantly avoiding William after that exile to Africa article came out.

  7. Tessa says:

Poor Charlotte, some Cambridge stans want her to be “just like” the Queen. Not herself.

  8. OriginalLala says:

No way comrade Kate Guevara bakes, she’s too busy planning la revolucion!

    • lanne says:

will the revolution be televised? Will she wear wiglets? buttons? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • My3cents says:

      Bella Ciao.

    • AnneSurely says:

Also, they’ve published a lot about the queen’s diet and it’s fairly heavy on booze, tea, and fish? Like, specifically that she doesn’t eat dessert. So, this is odd.

    • Jaded says:

First up for ‘La Revolucion’ is a takeover of Houghton Hall and the Hanburys marched through town, tarred and feathered, and put into the stocks! Viva la Revolucion! Viva la Keen Guevara!!

  9. Michelle Connolly says:

Agree with the above story, Megan’s Lemon cake story came out, ergo Kate has to bake too. That smashing thing is defo not a tradition here – the only thing we should be smashing is the monarchy!

  10. Becks1 says:

LOL, I dont believe the Cambridges baked anything for the queen. Why would they? Maybe they baked a chocolate cake in general and took a picture of it for the queen or something but that’s it.

Also, I do love the inside scoop that they organized an egg hunt for the kids! Who would have guessed it!

    • lanne says:

that’s some serious inside info there. Them ratchet rotas are working their little mittens to the bone!

  11. Amy Bee says:

The Easter video was just weird.

    • PEARL GREY says:

I can only imagine the think pieces, dissertations, headlines and all round reaching that would immediately follow if the Montecito royals had posted this video. “Is Meghan sending signals that she wants to BASH Prince Harry with a rolling pin? Is Archie taking his anger out on Easter eggs because he is away from the calming influence of his Cambridge cousins? Has Meghan disrespected the Queen and the Church of England by posting violent Easter imagery? Do the shattered chocolate and vanilla pieces represent the Sussexes’ shattered interracial marriage?”

    • Ginger says:

It was. It seemed kind of threading in a way. Very odd. I don’t see the point of posting it.

    • Becks1 says:

It was super weird. Is that a thing…anywhere? Bashing an egg with a rolling pin like that?

      • FicklePickle says:

I mean, in ASMR videos, yes…but I’m pretty sure those are a bit too far on the edge of ‘mainstream’ for Royal enthusiasts.

  12. Harper says:

That weird Instagram post is Will’s twisted sense of humor because who else would think randomly bashing perfectly edible chocolate with a rolling pin is funny?

Anyway, Carole was quick with the Easter report from Anmer, wasn’t she? Except I’m reading it that they sent the eggs to the Queen and Philip and baked the chocolate cake with Cadbury eggs at home for themselves. You know, to snack on between rounds of tennis, horseback riding, and shooing Louis away from the fun.

    • Nic919 says:

The Queen and Charles did a brief media photo spray on Easter on the grounds of Frogmore House and William was nowhere to be seen. I doubt he would have skipped that had he been there.
I suspect Kate and the kids were at Anmer and William was somewhere.

      • Gail Hirst says:

I read it was the grounds of Frogmore Cottage, which I thought shady as all get out. Even at Frogmore House the implication is what, they’re checking up on the “empty” property or they visited/did not visit the newborn of Eugenie & Jack?
Based on her outfit, she didn’t ride there, so she was driven to the grounds specifically for a photo op w/heir? Doesn’t the heir live much further away? Was this even Easter Sunday?
All I know is lies, damn lies. So one cannot believe ANYTHING unless Harry and/or Meghan speak specifically, because they own their words and stand by their words. The rest is just “noise”. They are all being particularly noisy right now….

      • Becks1 says:

No, it said the grounds at Frogmore House, which is pretty close to Windsor Castle. (Frogmore House is where H&M had their evening reception.) so maybe Charles went out there for the weekend and they took the picture, IDK. But I don’t think using Frogmore House in itself was that shady, its Charles’s house or the duchy’s house or however that works. and I think it’s open to the public for part of the year – or maybe just the gardens? – so it was probably PR for that too.

  13. Gingerbee says:

Meghan baked a cake and send it to one of her charity, and now Catty wants to do the same 🤦🏽‍♀️. That woman has no original ideas of her own.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Keen Guevara is the kween of cosplaying. I can’t even begin to imagine the kind of stress she must be under. Prior to 2016, all she had to do was dress up, smile, pop out babies and do as little as possible. Now she has to actually sing for her supper due to the arrival of a hard working multi millionaire duchess on the scene.

  14. Quincytoo says:

If the article stated that the team of nannies, cooks and staff helped the children bake a cake I would be more tempted to believe this

  15. Nic919 says:

Was it a later Easter church service where Billy and Cathy showed up so late to the service that the Queen got tired of waiting for them and just went in the church despite it being a breach of protocol for them to enter the church after the monarch?

I do recall that part of the issue was that Kate had gone with the kids to Buckleberry and William was not with them and so there was a delay in having to get Kate to the church.

  16. Carabella says:

The egg smash was odd—but the not-so-regals do like to turn bunnies into game pies, so don’t expect cute and cuddly from them. Maybe it alludes to Will’s TBI.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

They were hoping to appeal to the millenials and GenZs. A major miss as everyone knows they use cute wooden hammers for chocolate smash parties now.

      • Jaded says:

The only time I use chocolate in something it’s to make mole sauce – my Mr. is type 1 diabetic and can’t eat sweets. I throw it in my mini-grinder and give it a few buzzes. I think the smashing stuff was for Willnot’s benefit as he’s probably bigly livid about the Invictus announcement.

      • Carabella says:

Yes, the rolling pin was really odd, especially as rolling pins are associated with domestic violence. Punch & Judy shows depict bashing with a rolling pin etc. Very peculiar.

      • FicklePickle says:

And here I was thinking somebody had watched one too many ‘destruction’ type ASMR vids on Youtube.

    • CrystalBall says:

They must have read about Archie’s birthday cake smash… And they made it to keep up their video quota and get lots of keen clicks. It’s just sad.

  17. Over it says:

Megs makes an olive and lemon cake for charity, so Kate must make the queen a cake. Harry bikes with Archie so now Kate children must bike, this copy kating is getting old real fast

    • Ginger says:

I have a feeling Harry took Meghan and Archie away from the UK to get away from Kate’s creepiness.

      • The Duchess says:

I always get creepy vibes from Kate. The type where you don’t want to be the only person in the room with her because she’s so damn awkward and strange.

  18. MangoAngelesque says:

Meghan baked a cake, so of COURSE Kate AND THE KIDS baked a cake for the Queen. Of course they did. While William played on a beach with their black dog somewhere, I’m sure.

    • Ania says:

Does Kate realize that the day will come when her kids will no longer be cute and little to help her pr? She build her entire public persona around being a mum, what will
she do in 5 years? Will she keep having babies untill she dies? They are setting up all three kids for failure ascribing personalities to them already, Charlotte like the queen etc, I don’t want to hear what they are saying to those kiddos at home, how much pressure there is to be „appropriate”.

    • KW says:

@ Mango, I just always assumed that they handed that black dog off to her brother. Probably because Hardboiled Bill was always using “I’m walking the dog” as an excuse to hit Houghton Hall. The dog hasn’t been seen forever, and then they made a quick little announcement it had passed away, but wasn’t it only a year older than George? My timeline is off, but the dog did disappear.

  19. Sue Denim says:

the video is hostile no? just an egg but smashing something that the kids prob loved? if it was the kids doing it, like a pinata, maybe, but if not this turns my stomach a bit… his mom did call him “billy the basher”… I think…

  20. Snazzy says:

On one of the other threads a Brit said that breaking the egg and then sharing it was an easter tradition, so maybe that’s what they were going for?

  21. Lizzie says:

Kate told the cook to make a cake, the kids each took a turn stirring. George and Charlotte probably each poured in one premeasured ingredient. Keen has never eaten cake.
The Easter pic above are one of Kate’s best looks.

  22. equality says:

The kids aren’t allowed sweets often? Didn’t Kate claim during lockdown that she and the children were baking frequently? They are contradicting themselves again.

    • SarahCS says:

Oh but she’s SUCH a good mother, of course her kids don’t get sweets, junk food, too much screen time and all the other stuff the ‘common’ folk are dragged for.

  23. SarahCS says:

I read it that they decorated eggs for Liz and Phil but the cake baking was separate so something just for their family.

  24. HeatherC says:

OMG this article is embiggening try-hard. Meghan bakes a cake. “See, we bake cakes too…but for the QUEEN!” Harry rides a bike “See we ride bikes too!” Charlotte is “just like the queen!” “We’re oh so happy and having lots of fun family time!”

ANd then there’s poor little Louis. “Oh yeah he’s here too. “

  25. Over it says:

The last picture is so hilarious, Kate curtsy the queen acts like she isn’t even there

    • Becks1 says:

And it should be noted that William did not bow his head or whatever the men do, which means he had already seen the Queen that day, but Kate hadn’t. At the time we speculated it was because he had gotten in trouble over the “exile them to Africa” story.

      • Over it says:

He is acting like he is already king baldinham. So arrogant.

      • Nic919 says:

They were likely living separately at that point. It wouldn’t be the first time she stayed at her parents for Easter and he wasn’t there.

    • swirlmamad says:

Lol she has such a try-hard look on her face…..”Hi, hello?? Hey, look at me over here being so dutiful and curtseying so wonderfully!”, while the queen blows her off without a second glance.

  26. Coco says:

Considering the Mother’s Day cards showed the world that the Cambridge kids have the greatest fine motor skills of any child in history, I would really like to see how they decorated this cake.

  27. Cottage Cat says:

What everyone needs to know about the ferociously ambitious Middletons…”Uncle Gary” has contacts in high places, despite being photographed urinating against a wall, charged with giving his wife a “right hook” and trafficking young women to reporters. How much longer can the media claim Kate is “suitable”?

    • Elizabeth says:

Kate’s uncle pleaded guilty to knocking his wife to the ground over an argument about cocaine. Unbelievably trashy.

  28. Kyliegirl says:

I wonder if KP is embracing the Egghead nickname and stating that unlike Humpty Dumpty, all the kings horses and all the kings men WILL put Egghead back together again. Very strange greeting.

  29. Jumpingthesnark says:

How does chocolate Easter egg cake mix with Bettys daily 5 alcohol drink quota? Hmm maybe she’ll eat it after all, later in the day…..

  30. modes says:

I read a comment on the original IG post for the egg smash video, and someone came up with the analogy of “He is risen again”…like, the smashed egg is “reborn”…Could definitely see the Keens playing into that demographic.

  31. Elizabeth says:

I adore chocolate but how do you not go with a pound cake in the shape of a lamb with white coconut frosting for a spring holiday (my mom would make that)? Or at least something fruity / light / flowery. Lol. Culinary disagreement. Meghan’s cake was personal and seasonally appropriate.
