VF: Duchess Kate is the only one keeping the Windsors from looking too dowdy??

Royal visit to Durham

Keen Anniversary Week is winding down and I’m just trying to see if there’s anything major I missed. Daily Mail columnist Sarah Vine did a piece about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s jeans-ad anniversary video, and the headline was (I sh-t you not): “Eat your heart out Harry and Meghan, the Cambridges’ slick new home movie is a touch of Boden, but utterly charming.” Vine pointed out that the video “looks a bit too much like an advert for a building society, or one of those middle-class holiday camps where there’s no wifi and everyone gets up at 5am to go bike riding” and that the video was made by a commercial director who has worked with Uber Eats. Vine ends on this note: “What Harry and Meghan will make of it is anyone’s guess. But from where I’m sitting, that freezing cold, windswept beach in Norfolk looks a darn sight sunnier than California.” WTF? Do they know how unhinged they sound? And if you can’t embiggen the Keens without mentioning Harry & Meghan, then the Keens have much bigger problems. Problems which will bring down the monarchy.

In addition to Vine’s bizarre piece, Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair had a comprehensive article about Kate and how she’s “grown” so much in the past ten years. As always, people make a nearly 40-year-old woman sound like a shy toddler who just learned to speak. Some highlights from this piece:

Royal historian Sarah Gristwood on the Cambridge marriage: “Historically royal princes married to cement an alliance with a foreign power but William’s marriage to Kate Middleton was different. Kate was a commoner and thus cemented an affiliation with the British people, which has done the monarchy a lot of good. The royal family must be watching and learning. This middle-class girl from Berkshire has actually managed a seamless and fairly flawless move into the royal family. She’s endeared herself to the family and the public by being the old style of royal, she’s now modifying the pitch.”

The glamour of the monarchy is in California: “There was a real risk that when the Sussexes left, the glamour of the royal family would also be taking a transatlantic plane ticket leaving it looking distinctly dowdy,” says Gristwood. “Kate was the person to fill that void, and she did it magnificently.”

Will & Kate are happy that the Sussexes are gone: But as one source close to the Cambridges notes, for all the heartache it has caused, Harry and Meghan’s exit has in many ways refocused William and Kate, who are more determined than ever to make a difference through their own philanthropic work through their charitable platform, the Royal Foundation. While Kate is heavily focused on childhood issues and mental well-being, William is focusing his time on conservation and his newly announced Earthshot Prize. “They are very focused on their roles and how they plan to bring about real, lasting change,” says a palace aide. “The duchess is definitely doing things that are different and outside her comfort zone these days, and that’s because she feels confident doing them. She’s very comfortable in her royal role and her family role. She’s a very hands-on mum. They are a happy family and that has resulted in a quiet confidence about her.”

Will & Kate spent more time together during the pandemic? According to a friend, “Their lives are very busy, their diaries are full, and so the time they actually get with each other is quite limited. Lockdown has been a really special time for them and brought them even closer as a family.”

Kate is still finding her voice: It’s been evident in the past year, from her remarkable “Hold Still” exhibition to her friendly Instagram videos that Kate has not only discovered a new confidence, she has found her voice—and crucially, is being encouraged to use it. “There is a repositioning going on within the monarchy, and I think this is one of the most important stages in Kate’s life as a royal,” says Gristwood. “She is doing things independently and voicing new ideas. This is Kate’s moment.”

Waity Katy’s revenge: “I’ll bet those courtiers who reputedly once sneered about ‘Waity Katy’ are the very ones bowing lowest now,” Gristwood says. “She looks like the person who’s going to have to play a big hand in the ongoing remolding of the monarchy.”

[From Vanity Fair]

All I keep thinking about is how messy it will get in a hurry when William becomes Prince of Wales and Kate becomes Princess of Wales. For all the “future king and future queen” talk, there’s little conversation about what W&K would do in those powerful and – some would say – cursed titles. How long is Kate going to play the infantilized, shy girl in desperate need of embiggening? How long will the British people be okay with that? She’s going to be in her 50s and they’ll still be writing sh-t about how “she’s finding her voice” and “she has quiet authority which no one ever sees” as excuses for her laziness. (Also, Sarah Gristwood sounds unhinged.)

Not with those doilies and buttons! No!
    Who wrote this fanfiction?

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Oh dear. I feel very sorry for the royal family and British media. The delusion is unreal. So much propping up and praise for dressing herself which no one is buying. Diana was a fashion icon. Meghan has her own distinctive style. Kate on the other hand just cosplays.

      • LahdidahBaby says:

That, and ffs, Kate is NONE of the flattering things they are saying! She can barely speak a comprehensible, complete sentence and it’s painful to watch her trying. How anyone can compare her to Diana is way beyond me.

    • Victoria says:

I wonder when these people look in the mirror in the morning, if the reflection they see is mired in reality or do they think they look completely different than what they really are?

Anyway, at this point it’s comical.

For me, personally, I would be really embarrassed to have gone to school for a degree in journalism but I have to make my living hawking fairytales that trying to bring down people for no good reason.

I would ask if these people had any shame at all, even just a little, but I guess I already know the answer to that question.

The sad thing is that karma is a bitch, and it has a way of coming back to you in ways you never imagined for the people you tried to hurt.

If I were the children of these stupid carnival of experts, I would mark some blood on my door,

  2. Eleonor says:

    Cringe.
    That’s all I have.

    • Jais says:

      Yep very cringe.
“Eat your heart out” is such a juvenile phrase. Petty too. Also a phrase you would use in relation to an ex.
Harry and Meghan broke up with Will and Kate and the Cambridges really want their attention so they can say look how much better I am now that you left. Cringe.

      • JT says:

Also the line about freezing Norfolk being sunnier than California? What in the cinnamon toast f*ck? (Credit to The Rock for this). Have they been Harry at the beach with Pula or are they pretending that didn’t happen? What about the Spotify teaser showing the Santa Barbara beach? They must be smoking the Middletons pot because this is ridiculous.

      • Nyro says:

Royalists claim to be sooo proud of their country and heritage yet they’re sooo jealous of and insecure about America and California in particular, of course. Instead of celebrating the quaint charms of a cold windy beach in Norfolk, they have to try to coopt iconic sunny California. “Dark and windy is where it’s really at, Harry! Kate’s the real California girl, Me-gain!!” There was a DM article a few weeks ago trying to claim that The Cotswolds was a better version of Montecito, LOL. It’s pathetic and if I were British I’d be embarrassed.

      • JT says:

The Cotswalds is beautiful but it’s no California. The beautiful beaches that you can use practically year round is enough to outweight “freezing Norfolk”. Not to mention the culture and it’s a much more relaxed vibe than what I imagine the UK to be. Maybe I’m biased being from SoCal though.

      • Nina says:

@Nyro. @JT. Couldn’t agree with you more. When I hit the beach, I am not looking for quaint and charming. I want sunshine, swimming, and baking like a fat turtle in that nice warm sunshine. Cold windy beach, meh. I’ll pass. California! Baby! Wooh Wooh!

      • BayTampaBay says:

“The Cotswalds is beautiful but it’s no California.”

The Cotswalds is no Florida either.

      • Lady D says:

Nothing is like Florida, Bay. Do you know there’s a website that allows you to input your birthday and it will then tell you what strange, aberrant, or plain weird event happened in Florida on that day?

  3. goofpuff says:

This is really embarrassing. For Kate. 40 years old and she still hasn’t ‘matured’ to be a responsible hardworking adult yet. Every time I see those embiggening articles, they sound more like backhanded insults to Kate – like middle school style. But I guess if you’re a royalist stan it doesn’t matter.

    • Commonwealthy sounded witty at first says:

I think this is where royal-watching intersects conservative culture – this is screaming “unthreatening quiet trad wife who still needs handholding unlike the shreeking harpy feminists.” It’s a cage for Kate. Even if she could be more, the propaganda machine won’t let her. Yikes.

    • Nic919 says:

They speak about Kate as though she is a special needs adult and not an almost 40 year old who until Meghan was the most educated commoner to marry into the familiar ever.

It’s been ten years and the time for finding herself should have been over after year one.

      • Becks1 says:

Especially since supposedly that was why William took so long to propose – so she could “learn the ropes” and understand what it meant to be royal. So here we are, almost 20 years later, and she is STILL learning the ropes and finding her voice and all that. Who would have thought that being a royal required more training than a brain surgeon?

      • Tessa says:

The spin is ridiculous, Kate would have been out if during the breakup, one of the women William was interested in returned his interest.

  4. Emily_C says:

When was the last time a British prince (or princess) married to cement an alliance with a foreign power? It was before Elizabeth. It was before Elizabeth’s father — the Queen Mum was British. I’m confused about George V’s marriage, but I don’t think that was for an alliance either. Edward VII maybe?

The royalists in the British press keep acting like the 20th century didn’t happen.

    • Eurydice says:

I think so. He married Alexandra of Denmark sometime in the middle 1800’s. He was pretty famously unfaithful

    • ArtHistorian says:

George V married a relative – Mary of Teck who, due to messy family dynamics on her father’s side, were not royal enough for a foreign royal marriage but royal enough for a British royal marriage.

Queen Victoria’s son Edward VII married Alexandra of Denmark but it wasn’t to cement an alliance since both Denmark and Britain were already constitutional monarchies where the government negotiated alliances without royal input. However, at that time royalty only married royalty – until the gene pool became to limited. Fx there were quite a bit of intermarriage between the Swedish and the Norwegian and Danish monarchies to the point that they are still all very closely related, fx the current Swedish King and the current Danish Queen are first cousins. And the current Norwegian king’s mother was the niece of the Swedish king.

      • Emily_C says:

I love that I can learn history at this gossip site. Fwiw, I took a class in this time period in British history in college, and the monarchs were hardly mentioned at all. Yet the RR act like they’ve still got the power of the Tudors.

    • BayTampaBay says:

““Historically royal princes married to cement an alliance with a foreign power”

The last time this happened was in 1858 when Victoria, The Princess Royal married Frederick of Prussia, the future Frederick III, German Emperor.

The Royal Writing Rats are absolutely HORRIBLE at their jobs. Why do they write as if their readers are all 10 year old school children or low IQ adults living in isolation on some offshoot creek in the Amazon River Basin.

      • LahdidahBaby says:

        LOL, BTB!

      • Dollycoa says:

Because they can write whatever sycophantic rubbish they want and the Royalists will lap it up, because in the main, they are desperate forelock tuggers, as are most Royal Reporters.

  5. NTheMiddle says:

I’m jealous that my mommy doesn’t have that much control of press releases.

People are having a blast editing commercial voice overs over the Cambridge family video. My favorite one is is for herpes medication Valtrex!

    • Over it says:

      These people are terrible.lolololololol

    • Clara says:

Who do you have to follow or what hashtags to use to find these?? You guys often post hilarious Twitter threads here that I can never find on my own 🙈

    • Steph says:

      Omg. This is amazing 😂😂😂

    • Genevieve says:

      That was amazing! Thank you.

    • TeamMeg says:

      OMG hysterical – Valtrex! LMAO

    • Chaine says:

      This made my day

    • MF says:

OMG, this is amazing and perfect in every way!

    • Seraphina says:

Thank you for the laugh. Between this and the grandkids being busted for “gardening” the Middleton Maryjane Manor, I am laughing my rear off.

    • GRUEY says:

@snuffles oh nooooooooooo my gawd lol we are all going to hell why does this fit so perfectly???

    • goofpuff says:

OMG that Valtrex commercial is so perfect LOL that’s what their video reminded me of.

    • bamaborn says:

Thought the Kay Jewelers advertisement was pretty funny, but, this one…Oh my goodness. Wish I was as creative as these people, definitely better than the Cains’ folks.

    • Robin says:

Thank you for posting the link. It was hilarious. It’s the first time I’ve watched their video, and I only did that knowing someone had put a fake ad over it. Did they talk in the proper one? As I keep saying, I can’t bear her voice.

    • Black Tiger says:

Not ok to make fun of this. At all. People suffer with this.

      • Liz version 700 says:

I did not consider it making fun of people with illnesses. It is making fun of how canned and staged the video was to the point that it looks like a generic commercial for jewelry, medications you name it

      • Sunny says:

An earlier post above says that Kate acts like a special needs adult.

My daughter is an adult with special needs.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I am deceased, then I was reborn and through it all I could not stop laughing!!!!!!

  7. Dee says:

Because women everywhere are donning buttony coatdresses to look like Kate? Military and Diana cosplay? Granny dresses for log sitting? In the beginning I had high hopes, but she continues to spend a lot of money on meh. The girl can’t accessorize either.

    • TeamMeg says:

She should go back to being sporty, perhaps supporting girls in sports, and/or fitness for all. The tabloids hated her before they had Meghan to hate and now that Meghan’s gone, they hate Kate again. Things are not looking good for the Cambridges.

  8. pottymouth pup says:

“Historically royal princes married to cement an alliance with a foreign power but William’s marriage to Kate Middleton was different. Kate was a commoner and thus cemented an affiliation with the British people, which has done the monarchy a lot of good.”

Shouldn’t a royal historian be aware of the fact that William did nothing different or groundbreaking by marrying a commoner as WIlliam’s own mother was a commoner when she married his father, the Prince of Wales & first in line for the throne?

Also, William’s uncles, who are also royal princes, married commoners before he married Middleton so William’s marriage to Kate was not, in fact, something different for a royal prince

    • Snuffles says:

Diana was from a primo aristocratic family who had deep connections to the royal family. Nothing common about her at all.

      • Marjorie K. Margel says:

Of course not. Read again. It said Uncles not father. Diana was chosen partially because of her family . Fergies family was less important, so was Sophie’s . Auntie Anne marrying Mark Phillips was another less important background issue.

      • Becks1 says:

No the comment specifically says that Diana was a commoner when she got married.

      • FicklePickle says:

In the UK everyone is a commoner except for those who have titles in their own right. There’s the Monarch, hereditary Peers (titles that are inherited), lifetime Peers (titles, not inheritable, usually Baron or Baroness, See: Thatcher), and commoners.

Even a Duke’s wife and Prince George are commoners, as Duchesses and Princes/Princesses are merely courtesy titles extended by virtue of either birth or marriage (with a VERY small number of notable exceptions). Harry and William only became something other than commoners when they got their Dukedoms.

Even the British press almost ALWAYS means ‘NOT born of an aristocratic family’ when they say ‘commoner’, because they’re lazy asses who can’t even be bothered to get it right EVEN WHEN IT’S ABOUT THE NITPICKY NONSENSE THEY’VE SPENT THEIR ENTIRE LIVES BITCHING ABOUT ‘OUTSIDERS’ NOT UNDERSTANDING.

    • Becks1 says:

Diana wasn’t a commoner, but Sophie was. I think Fergie was. At any rate, the idea of royal princes marrying “to cement an alliance with a foreign power” is something that hasn’t been done in a hundred years? Queen Mary was “Mary of Teck” but she grew up in the UK (I think she was even born there?) and I don’t think that marriage had anything to do with “cementing a foreign alliance.” so its not like Will and Kate were unique in that regard in any way shape or form.

      • Amy Bee says:

        No Fergie’s an aristo.

      • notasugarhere says:

It wasn’t a foreign alliance but definitely a hand-picked bride. She conveniently fell in love with the younger brother after the elder brother (her fiance) died.

      • Becks1 says:

Is she considered an aristo? I thought her father was a polo manager. Is it the kind of thing where you may have to go back a few generations but you’re still an aristo? UK class systems are over my head, lol.

Regardless, the whole “marrying for a foreign alliance” isn’t really done anymore, and this historian should know that.

@Nota – sure, hand-picked, but that’s not the same thing at all as “marrying to cement a foreign alliance.”

      • notasugarhere says:

No, not a foreign alliance. Another second cousin marriage.

      • pottymouth pup says:

she was an aristo but was still commoner because she wasn’t at peer of the realm level

      • Sofia says:

Fergie wasn’t a “Lady” like Diana was but she did have aristo relations in her background. Great-Great granddaughter of a Duke and Great-granddaughter of a Viscount. Distant but there. Her dad was also Philip and Charles’ polo manager.

      • Lady D says:

The stunningly arrogant, snot-nosed, stuck-up snob Andrew married the help’s daughter? Quick, I need smelling salts.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Fergie’s immediate family was considered old “Landed Gentry” and she is a commoner by birth but related to royalty by blood..

Her father, Ronald Ferguson, was related to Charles II as his maternal grandfather was Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Herbert Montagu Douglas Scott, son of William Montagu Douglas Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch, a direct descendant of Charles II

      • Dl says:

The first brother was a real problem child. Mae of Teck, later changed to Mary when she became Queen consort, was a lower royal. She was picked as she was hoped to put up with problem child. He croacked before the wedding and her bridal bouquet was on his coffin. She and her husband did love one another and got along very well. Seems the spare winds up the heir a lot in this family but they still abuse and do not prepare the spare

      • BayTampaBay says:

Also, Queen Victoria was the progenitor of the match(es) and really liked Princess (May) Mary because she was well educated for a woman of her time, she was very level headed and she did not like the Marlborough House Set of her future father-in-law.

      • FicklePickle says:

Fergie and Diana are, like, 5th or 6th cousins. Fergie is an aristo, though decidedly on the fringe.

    • Ann says:

The Spencers are a very old family with deeper roots in the British Aristocracy than the Windsors, who were brought over from Germany in the 18th century in order to end a period of internecine warring over the throne. They were basically German cousins, but relative upstarts. And before WWII, they still used their German name.

      • Dl says:

@Ann the name was changed to Windsor during WWI right after London bombing. People hated anything or anyone German or German associated. The King successfully saved the monarchy by reshaping the family as House of Windsor

    • Ann says:

There is only one place Sarah Vine could be sitting that makes Norfolk look sunnier than California, and that’s up the Royal Arse.

      • BayTampaBay says:

I think this whole article by Sarah Vine is tongue & check trolling of Kate because Ms. Vine is a close friend of Rose Hanbury and the article is so poorly written.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

BTB, that’s how I read it, too. This is not an article making Kate look good.

    • Tessa says:

And even earlier, Bertie later George VI married a commoner.

      • Sofia says:

The Queen Mother was the daughter of an Earl. Not a royal in her own right but not a “commoner” the way Kate is said to be.

Her and Diana would be considered to be on the same “pecking order” before their marriage I suppose as they were both daughters of an Earl.

    • Amelia says:

I’m a British commoner and I have literally no connection to Kate. She didn’t resonate with me in any way. Her parents are wealthy and she’s not a poc so most of the people couldn’t care less

  9. MsIam says:

Kate’s the only one? Lord they in trouble then, lol. Can we turn the page now that the anniversary is over or will this continue for the rest of the summer?

  10. Tom says:

    Once again, the Indispensible Kate.

Uneasy rests the head which wears the wiglet.

  11. Legalease says:

I really wish the Sussexes would put out a statement telling these outlets to stop f*ckin talking about them. The obsession with putting them down at every turn is truly unhinged and must be so frustrating.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

But that would only serve to bring more attention. The BM must be all a bunch of arrested adolescents, based on their excessively sensitive language. So butthurt.

  12. Becks1 says:

Sarah Vine sounds unhinged. No one can look at pictures of them in CA, on the beach, and think they’re anything but happy. If they wanted to be playing on the beach in Norfolk, they would be. They don’t.

As for gristwod – the part about finding her voice is definitely a Meghan reference, right? when she said at the conference that women didnt need to find their voices, they had a voice, they needed to be encouraged to use them and people needed to listen. So that comment seems like a dig of sorts, but I can’t figure who its aimed at.

Finally, the british press just really needs to stop. If Kate was so amazing, if she was nailing the duchess game the way they say she is, if she was so busy, so prepared, so competent – they wouldn’t have to tell us. We would see it. But we can’t, because there is no there there.

    • Cecilia says:

For all their “duchess kate is amazing and has finally found her voice” they have yet to show us examples of the results of that voice she found. Out of the very few things kate put out hold still was the only thing that was successful. And everything they mention was actually the sussexes doing it first and now the keens are taking credit. “More result focused work” cookbook anyone? Or smart works clothing line? The whole “kate the queen of social media” literally the old employee of the sussexes.

    • Amy Bee says:

If Kate has found her voice why didn’t she deny the story about Meghan making her cry?

    • I know says:

That conference was when I think William started really hating Meghan. I believe he was the one who mentioned that girls, in impoverished countries, and Meghan’s follow-up was that it bothers her when people say that. I think that’s when they realized her intellect was way above them.

      • Amelia says:

        What did W say exactly?
Also someone mentioned that in the video About 15 seconds in you can see what likes Carole lurking in the bushes

    • Nic919 says:

Exactly. If you have to keep telling us how great Kate is 10 years later it’s because she’s not great and has done nothing to make that obvious. And the reality is that she is actually worse than any other woman who has married into the family in the last two generations. No other married in woman is as awful as she is when it comes to speeches and they definitely aren’t as lazy as she has been for the last ten years.

Kate is riding on being thin and the “youngest one” as her best attributes but that last quality has already faded and she is clinging desperately with non stop botox, fillers and ridiculous photo shop of photos.

  13. Hell Nah! says:

Oh Gawwwwd – please stop with this nonsense. She’s the dowdiest of them all.

    • Betsy says:

In some ways, she’s even more dowdy than the rest of them. They come by it naturally; she’s adopted the dowd.

      • Lizzie says:

I’m not sure why, bad taste or did her mother tell her not to dress well like Diana because the good press made Charles mad?

      • BayTampaBay says:

I think she adopted the dowd because that is how Baldy wants her to dress. No other reason make any sense.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Super-frump doily princess hard at work being frumpy-dowdy.

  14. Edna says:

Wow. Those Royal ratchet reporters are unhinged. WTF did I just read. H&M aren’t giving two thoughts to the BM and what nonsense they’re writing about the Cambridge’s. It’s like the BM is upping the ante and writing the most outlandish crazy things just to get the Sussexes attention. Over here, look at me, throw a crumb my way. It’s bonkers the fiction they come up with.

  15. HeatherC says:

When I think of glamour I absolutely think of countless coatdresses covered in buttons and sister wife prairie dresses. I find more glamour in Anne and Sophie than her. Katie Nicholls needs rehab for all the drugs she must be taking to write this. (also newly announced Earthshot? wasn’t it announced last year?)

Has anyone made a car commercial over their proof of life anniversary video yet? When the land rover makes an appearance in the background while toasting marshmallows made me think of that.

    • equality says:

A good deal of the time I like Anne’s, Sophie’s and Camilla’s looks more than Kates. If you look at old pictures of the Queen when she was Kate’s age, she dressed more glamorously. It shouldn’t be hard to be glamorous when you have so many resources and jewels available.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Anne lucked out in that she never throws her old clothes out so now she always looks at the height of vintage chic and still has the body at 70 to wear high end vintage designer duds even if she is shopping in her own massive closet.

      • FicklePickle says:

@BayTampaBay And even the crazy-ass stuff from the 60s and 70s and 80s manages to be more high-fashion crazy-ass than tacky crazy-ass. I cringe at many of the color palettes and ruffles but she could have done MUCH worse in those time periods in her social circles, from a modern perspective.

    • Emily_C says:

I think Camilla is more glamorous than her simply because Camilla knows how to smile.

  16. Merricat says:

Lol for days. How can they expect anyone to take the Cambridges seriously when literally every story is predicated on the Sussexes? Children, please.

  17. Abena Asantewaa says:

Sarah Gristwood, is usually pro Sussex, especially Meghan, even after Oprah. She even tweeted that, she has been dropped, like Prof Kate Williams as a result of her pro Meghan stance, so I am suspecting, she had to write something positive about Kate to get the job. Pity

  18. Sofia says:

At least Vine is admitting that their video looks like an advert. Still have to put the whole “they’re still sooooooo much better than the Sussexes!” though.

And again with the “she’s finding her voice” despite being a royal for 10 years, almost 40 and a mother of 3.

    • Jan says:

That’s what you get when you use a videographer that shoots supermarket Ads.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Someone needs to tell Sarah Vine the Cambridges gain nothing and are not lifted up by her putting down the Sussexes.

With respects to Kate “finding her voice” is that she lost her voice or that she never had one to begin with.

  19. Cecilia says:

I agree that kate is the only remotely interesting person they have left but that modernization only happened because of the way meghan did things. Meghan and harry were the ones to do things more modern and were flamed for it. And now, after the petty courtiers have seen that katty and billy are dull, they are emulating the sussexes and taking the credit. Im sorry but nothing annoys me more than this.

    • equality says:

Kate is interesting? I would rather follow Clarence House. Camilla has a book club and causes she seems to care about like domestic violence, guide and medical dogs, and literacy. Charles comes across as enthusiastic about his causes also, especially the environment. Sophie even seems more interested in her causes, especially the women’s and eyesight issues. All I get from most things Will and Kate release is trying to play dress up and here are our children. It would be nice if they did bring interest to their causes.

      • Lizzie says:

At this point I would be okay with how dull they are if there wasn’t multiple articles daily declaring them so interesting and better that Harry and Meghan. Go be dull quietly.

      • BayTampaBay says:

The tabloids will let the Cambridge be dull quietly because they have to generate daily royal content.

      • BayTampaBay says:

“will not let the Cambridges be dull quietly”

  20. Aaliyah says:

These two and the other royals are going to cause the demise and end of the British monarchy, mark my words. My intuition never lies.

    • Robin says:

I’m with you on this. I think they are going to lack any relevance pretty soon, and what has happened to H&M has hastened the process. We’ve just got to get rid of them as a constitutional monarchy.

  21. Amy Bee says:

William and Kate are going to forever live in the shadow of Harry and Meghan. They are constantly being compared to them and the press is finally admitting that the Cambridges are copying the Sussexes. They got what they wanted which was Harry and Meghan out of the UK but in doing so they have made Harry and Meghan the biggest stars of the Royal Family.

  22. The Duchess says:

Kate is the dullest one of them all because she’s made herself that way. She’s the one who has dumbed herself down over the past two decades to make William happy and she’s not going to stop. She’s nearly 40 and she doesn’t have one achievement to her name. You can’t compete where you don’t compare, Sarah. The Sussexes will forever be the pillars of whom the Keenbridges live in the shadows of. And there’s nothing you can do about it!

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

The Duchess, I’m not convinced that she had to dumb herself down to make W happy. I think she doesn’t want to do any work. Otherwise, she would have taken public speaking lessons and she would have done more work in the last decade. The problem now is that she’ll be required to work and she doesn’t have any idea how to do that nor does she really want to. I just can’t see how she can be a benefit to the brf. Sister wife dresses aside, of course.

    • Nic919 says:

Kate was never an intellectual. Even her own cousin described her as being very self absorbed and incurious about the world around her. Kate focused in snagging a prince and directed her life to that, which included being available when he called and staying thin because he preferred thing women. There really is nothing else to her. And it would be pitiable if she hadn’t been such a mean bitch to her sister in law.

  23. Bea says:

They really can’t keep Meghan’s and Harry’s out of their mouths… this is supposed to be all about Kate and William but somehow they don’t want to focus only on them. Because they know they have so little to work on. Meghan and Harry are definitely the BEST thing that EVER happened to K and W. Before them they were the lazy and boring ones… now the media is trying to rebrand them as “rockstars”… but it’s not working…

  24. Woke says:

I’m still convinced that the constant comparisons to H&M by the press is not actually what KP want but they are happy to get along with it because they have nothing else to offer. The press desperately want W&K to fo more yo be more but nothing seems to stick they didn’t even trend on twiwith the video. And the video how many of the public saw it I mean outside if the social media ? Did they show it on TV ?

  25. Lizzie says:

I think Camilla reads these embiggening articles and gives Keen a one fingered salute.

    • Truthiness says:

Camilla plays the long game adroitly, she might be laughing last and for a long time. It seems like a direct swipe against the Queen and Camilla and as such, it is really poor shot selection. Camilla did not play the Look At Me game for the funeral and she has the far more stable marriage.

  26. Over it says:

How about Kate stops looking for her voice and use her talent. Oh wait, She has none. Never mind moving on.

  27. ClaireB says:

I can’t anymore with this ridiculous propaganda. They’re just going to keep screaming at the public until the public agrees with them: KATE IS A ROCK! KATE IS STYLISH BUT ALSO RELATABLE! KATE IS THE EPITOME OF CLASS AND GRACE!

I know I’m a little slow, but I just realized that she and William are both wearing blue again, no doubt to coordinate with Big Blue. So thematic, Kate!

  28. Talie says:

The video and pictures reminded me a lot of Harry and Meghan who go more for the professional gloss. Kate and William go more homemade, lo-fi, usually. I could see their influence in the new imagery, but that’s bound to happen….although no one would admit it out loud.

I agree, if you constantly have to compare Harry and Meghan in every article, it gives them the power and relevancy we keep hearing that they supposedly don’t have. But Meghan said this in the Oprah interview, there’s always a hero and a villain and the British press have made it clear who is playing which part.

  29. Jan says:

Is piss Moran hiding? All his bellyaching was for nought, the new network that he was hoping to get a job on, may not be happening.
The BM want Harry’ and Meghan’s attention, the same people they said would be irrelevant, Chris ship said he wouldn’t be commenting on them anymore, he lasted a day.

  30. El says:

It is always seems odd to me that she is called middle class. Her family is quite wealthy and she went to a posh school. Even though she didn’t have a title her upbringing was quite privileged.

    • Sofia says:

In the UK your class is determined by your family lineage not your wealth. She was not born into an aristo family so she is considered middle class even if she went to the same university as a Prince

      • El says:

Sofia and Robin, thank you for the clarification. I’ve been looking at it from an American viewpoint. It is a little like the American conservative definition of elite which is more cultural (what beer do you drink) vs liberal idea of elite which focuses more on income.

    • Robin says:

In the UK it takes a good while for money to filter into class; that’s why old money and new money rub against each other so badly, with old conveniently forgetting they themselves were new at one point. It would be the children of the children etc of someone who managed to send their kids to private school who crept up the classes. (And, to a degree, a generation or two managing to get to private school doesn’t really mean anything until it becomes more longlasting.) This is what must irk Carole no end. Her daughter is in line for Queen (consort) but Carole will always be middle middle class. Kate, too, will always be seen like this. I suppose the analogy would be a working class lottery winner. He or she could win millions, buy mansions, send their kids to private school, but at no point would that person be considered anything other than what they were born. Nor would their children. That person would die long before their family achieved the standing associated with the money they came from. After that, even if they lost the money, they’d still be upper class. They don’t fall.

      • BayTampaBay says:

        Old Money = The Spencers

        New Money = The Middletons

Real Money = Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and James Dyson

@Robin – Where does Real Money fit into the UK Class System?

  31. Mina_Esq says:

Yeah, being the prince and princess of Wales involves actual work lol I can’t wait to see that exciting new chapter in their lives, and all the hilarious stories it will bring with lol

  32. Lizzie says:

I’ve read that Charles will probably wait a few years after he is king before giving Archies uncle the POW.

  33. Tessa says:

She needs to update her hairstyle, same she wore in University. And her clothes are dowdy.

  34. sophieb9 says:

That video was one cliche after another, and only cemented the fact that these two CANNOT show each other genuine affection. Kate can’t even look Wills in the eye! The kids are delightful and natural. They must love when the PR people turn up with cameras because they get to do some great stuff they’ve never done before, like roasting marshmallows over a carefully staged bonfire…

    • swirlmamad says:

I actually thought Kate was putting in some effort in that video to act lovey-dovey, but true to form, Will was the one who yet again would not or could not look her in the eyes. The kids were a big ol’ distraction from that.

  35. Nyro says:

Their anniversary was a dud and every article was centered around Meghan and Harry. That video they filmed is being mocked by blue checks and non-stan civilians. The upcoming VaxLive concert has them all shook. Harry’s real brother Nacho just revealed in an interview that he and Harry are working on a lot of charity events and are going to hit the ground running as soon as it’s safe. I think they know this is the end. The rota ratchets, the Middletons, the Firm know this is the last chance to “define” PWT and Doormat before they spend the rest of heir lives in the Sussexes long shadow.

    • bamaborn says:

Oh, and that lineup! President and Jill Biden, VP Kamala Harris, Jlo, Selena, etc will definitely sear their little minds. And was Dr Jill wearing Meghan’s 🍋 inspired dress or was that an old clip?

  36. Amelia says:

We all say the Piers Morgan is obsessed with Meghan (which he is there’s no doubt about that) but Sarah the Vile is also obsessed with her as well. Literally no one was talking about her until you unnecessarily drag her name in out of no where. What the hell does “Wee and Cee’s” anniversary have to do with Meghan and Harry?! Literally nothing. The former have been together for nearly 20 years and Meghan and Harry have been together for only 5 yet. Give them f ing BREAK!! And whilst you’re at it give us one too! Dumb b*tch!

  37. Amelia says:

Also btw what happened to “preferring TrUe royalty to fashion royalty”? Isn’t Kate the epitome of “fashion royalty”?!?!

  38. Lizzie says:

Even their recorded zooms were heavily edited. Keen is awkward and always needs good editing to appear natural.

  39. Robin says:

She is the personification of dowdy for me.

  40. Quincytoo says:

    Sit Kate Sit
    Good girl Kate
    Roll over Kate Roll over
    Good girl Kate
Here’s a pretty frumpy button for your collection
Ten years of training for Top CEO is soooo hard

  41. TheOriginalMia says:

She does know we can see Kate and her dowdy wardrobe with our own eyes. We also know Kate is a blank slate. Kate isn’t overshadowing anyone. Hell, Leticia came to town and wowed everyone with her presence and style. Kate doesn’t do that.

  42. bluhare says:

Question. I didn’t think William is automatically Prince of Wales when the Queen dies. I thought the monarch bestows that. So William will be Duke of Cornwall until Charles makes him Prince of Wales. Am I correct there?

    • BeanieBean says:

      Yep.

      • swirlmamad says:

And do W+K cease to be DDoCambridge when he/they get Cornwall, or do they hold both titles?

      • Sofia says:

@swirlmamad they have both titles. So they become “HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge” or Cambridge and Cornwall. Not too sure which one comes first.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Baldy & Wiglet will continue to hold the Dukedom titles and when they become King & Queen the Cambridge title will merge back into the crown.

  43. MerlinsMom1018 says:

Meanwhile H&M looking around them and going “Ohmygod what HAVE we done????? We could’ve had that freezing cold, windswept beach in Norfolk, but noooooooooooo… We chose to come to sunny California and live in beautiful Montecito whatever were we thinking????? It’s all ashes, just ashes”
    ok Jan…

  44. Monica says:

«« “They are very focused on their roles and how they plan to bring about real, lasting change,” says a palace aide. “The duchess is definitely doing things that are different and outside her comfort zone these days, »»

H&M’s escape has goosed these bumpkins into actually trying to do some good for their country, if for no other reason than sheer jealousy and competitiveness. Go, doggies, go!

    • BayTampaBay says:

“They are very focused on their roles and how they plan to bring about real, lasting change,” says a palace aide.”

Sounds pretty woke to me. Did not Bill Cambridge state the “Royal Family does not do woke” to some tabloid hack?

Do these people not see they are trying to talk out of both sides of their mouth and are massive failing in the endeavor?

  45. Margaret says:

One comment, the fakeness in those pictures of willie and kate, is creepy.

    • Curious says:

lmao they think they in a movie, no one will ever think their real life sucks.

  46. L4Frimaire says:

That Sarah Vine headline was just super crazy, like bunny boiler level. So nasty and shows how everything centers the Sussexes. Just disgusting yet they still can’t figure out why Meghan and Harry left. This woman’s husband is openly hoping to be the next PM and can you imagine this hag in the world stage. Nicholls is back to her usual fluffing of Kate. They need to move on.

  47. Lizzie says:

Sorry Keen, but the queen is the only one who is not dowdy. She dresses beautifully, although she had some dowdy decades.

    • Brittany says:

The queen has had some glamorous moments for sure but nowadays she wears like a baggy bright lime green suit with clumpy black low heels and a shiny black leather handbag. Oof.

  48. Jay says:

Um, it’s pretty backhanded to say that Kate is just now supplying the glamour, when she’s been part of the royal family for a decade.

Are they saying she WAS dowdy for eight years, but now that Meghan’s gone, she “fills the void”? Kate takes up space, that’s her talent. 😂😂😂 Why even admit that there was a void? I keep saying this, but none of these articles are actually very flattering. Are they really meant to be?

  49. BayTampaBay says:

    Wrong Place!

  50. Robin says:

“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the dowdiest of them all?” “It’s you, Kate” said the mirror.

  51. February-Pisces says:

Kate is the epitome of a dowdy woman. The rest of the royals are old and inbred, what’s her excuse?

The only way she can be the ‘hot one’ is when she’s stood next to a couple of pensioners like Charles and Camilla.

  52. gm says:

    1. To the British press and royalty if they are supporting this- let H & M go. It’s like those people who forever bring up their ex, my advice is don’t and live well, let it go. It strikes me as weird, a family member leaves a family business, who cares that much?
    2. Otherwise I think it is smart of the palace to publicize W& K endlessly because people often believe what blankets the media. There is a risk of blowback (recall Anne Hathaway Oscar campaign) but that is probably not a major issue.
    3. It may help protect K if W cheats or attempts to dump her ( my guess is he won’t but I never guessed H& M would leave either, as I am a cautious person and assume others are also).

  53. serena says:

They really can’t stay relevant without mentioning H&M, how pathetic.

    • Curious says:

they can’t. Harry /Meghan was talked about even in their wedding anniversary .they get no press without Harry/Meghan. or to make catherine/ william noticeable, they always mention Harry/Meghan.lmao. willam have no life without Harry/ Meghan. even if he is ever crown king, it will be about Harry/Meghan.lolol

  54. Liz version 700 says:

Of all the desperate articles this one might be the most embarrassing. Lordy the cringe.

  55. Dierski says:

Wow, these royal reporters just can’t stop. I got so many good laughs reading this one though – made my morning, so thank you Kaiser!

Separately, I need to start using the phrase ‘I sh-t you not’ more often in my storytelling. Too good!!

  56. MissMarirose says:

Vine’s piece just sounds like he turned in a article entirely designed to shade the Cambridges, but his editor said he’s not allowed to go all negative on them without reference to the Sussexes, so Vine tacked on the “sunnier than California” part to keep the dictated pecking order in place.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Never forget that Vine is a big buddy of Rose Hanbury.

      • Curious says:

its strange to think Rose will have sex with a rabbit. weird. all i ever read about Rose never once have i ever read anything about her cheating…maybe william was attracted to her.she stand tall, and dedicated to her children.

      • original penguin says:

Vine is despicable. They’re all despicable and don’t have an actual sense of what ‘normality’ is. Some are just better at hiding it or owning their privilege than others.

  57. Curious says:

no woman wanted William. cause no women wanted to give up their freedom. plus William is nothing without the title the heir of some crap. he already had a bald spot on his head when he married the most willing woman. even after he cheated on her. she stuck around.

  58. kelleybelle says:

With sister-wife dresses and puffed sleeves? No, she’s making them appear worse. I haven’t worn puffed sleeves since 5th grade in the 1970s.
