Prince Harry announces: The 2023 Invictus Games will be held in Düsseldorf

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex attends The Invictus Games 2020 launch

Prince Harry has many babies! He not only has his actual babies Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana, he has the Invictus Games. Harry spent more than a year putting together the first Invictus Games in 2014. He was inspired to create the games after attending the Warrior Games in America, which are like the American-only games for wounded veterans. Harry wanted a multi-nation sporting event, and he’s said before that it was one of the hardest projects he’s ever undertaken, and one of the projects he’s most proud of. In 2014, the games were held in London. In 2016, they were in Orlando, Florida (because the games had full backing from the Obama administration). In 2017, they went to Toronto, and in 2018, they were in Sydney. The plan was to have the fifth Invictus Games in The Hague last year, but because of the pandemic, those games have been pushed back until April 2022.

I’ve heard rumors recently that various cities were heavily vying to host the next few Invictus Games. I have no idea how Harry – and presumably the IG host committee – manages all of the bids from various countries, but there were strong rumors that New Zealand wanted to host the sixth or seventh Invictus Games in Christchurch. I don’t know if their bid fell through or if NZ is still in the running for the seventh IG, but the sixth Invictus Games will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany in September 2023. Harry announced it in a clip posted to the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023 Instagram. This should be good! Germans are so organized, and I bet they’ll be so welcoming to international athletes.

Hilariously, the British press is trying to make this into some kind of dumb “gotcha” because Harry is supposed to be on parental leave. How dare Harry film a very short video to announce that Germany will host the 2023 Invictus Games! The saltines are so mad about it, and they’re also mad that he left his paternity leave to get his lawyers to threaten the BBC! HOW DARE HE!

So this had already been established, but I think it was supposed to be 2022 (so it was supposed to be The Hague in 2020, and Dusseldorf was supposed to be 2022). This announcement was less about the city and more about the dates being finally set.

I think New Zealand is trying to get the games after dusseldorf – so maybe 2025?

    • Amy Bee says:

Yeah, this announcement was about the actual date which is 9 – 16 September 2023.That means Harry will be celebrating his 39th birthday during the games.

      • Becks1 says:

Okay that was what I thought – that they were in September – but i’m looking at the IG website and it says June, so that must be a mistake?

Also in looking at their website they have this up there:

HRH The Duke of Sussex, Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation HA! take that salty RRs.

new zealand is vying for 2024 – to coincide with anzac commemoration, i believe. yes, *many* countries want to get in on this

Maybe they very naively thought that with Harry and Meghan on parental leave they wouldn’t be paying attention and they could run riot with whatever story they wanted to put out.

  3. MerlinsMom1018 says:

Y’all, if Harry announced he found THE cure for every disease those reporters would still be frothing at the mouth
For someone who the RR and the greys and courtiers deem sooooo unimportant they sure do stalk his every move
Those games are gonna be packed and successful. So let’s see what the Cambridge clan come up with and how dare Harry try to outshine TOB

People on the Salty Isle are melting down. However, just because one takes paternity leave does not mean that all work stops. A book release, African Parks grants, Invictus announcements are just a few things we have learned about while they are away from the spotlight. By the way, if one is not supposed to be seen during paternity leave according to the tabloids, then it is safe to assume that no one expects Harry to be in London for the statue unveiling.

    • Nina says:

See, there you go using common sense again. Why should they let facts get in the way of what they want to believe

    • swirlmamad says:

AND, H&M even said that though they will be on parental leave, “the work goes on”. I don’t know why these idiot royal reporters are so damn hard of hearing. Harry keeps saying things loud and clear yet they are “blindsided” every time. So tiresome.

  5. Amy Bee says:

Yeah I saw Emily Andrews, fan of celebitchy, moaning about Harry breaking his parental leave to send a legal letter to the BBC. Does being a royal reporter make a person stupid?

    • Merricat says:

      95% pie chart says yes!

    • lucylee says:

      absolutely!

    • Becks1 says:

Emily Andrews is handling this wrong. She should write an inside story of what being a royal reporter is “really” like – including the payments to sources, the backstabbing (ahem Dan Wootton for both of those), the way you are instructed to write stories a certain way, etc. She could blow the lid wide off and gain “some” credibility in the US and she would prob be marketable in the US as a “royal expert” even if she blows up all her sources. I mean if she wrote that book….I’d buy it.

Instead she’s shrieking about the Sussexes talking to their lawyers while on maternity leave. It’s not leave from life Emily!!

      • goofpuff says:

I know! That would a very profitable move for an RR that was smart enough to take advantage of it.

    • Lemons says:

I wish we could slap these people with fines for being so publicly stupid and ignorant.

      • Izzy says:

I was fully prepared for this comment to end after “these people.” LMAO still a valid sentiment but if we’re slapping them with fines the money should also be donated to organizations supported by the Sussexes and Archewell.

  6. Amelia says:

I hope the Invictus Games become an annual event for both Harry and Meghan and they get so much love. And I hope none of Harry’s toxic family has anything to do with it EVER! This is Harry’s project only. They can keep their large noses out of it!

  7. Over it says:

While Harry does work that matters, the others simmer and slowly let out their rage and rows of buttons.

  8. Justjj says:

    I heart this.

  9. Izzy says:

For all we know he filmed it just before the baby was born.

    • MaryContrary says:

I thought he actually looked exhausted in the video-like you do when there’s a new baby in the house-so my guess is that he just shot it. But since the clip is like 15 seconds long, I’m sure it was no big deal.

  10. Cessily says:

I think the people who bash him in the press, including trash journalists should have their charity support and accomplishments up next to PH’s and only those who have a better resume of accomplishments are allowed to print anything. It is only fair.
