Prince William has a book coming out too, you guys (but he only ‘wrote’ the intro)

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tour of Scotland

I guess I completely missed this yesterday but it’s so amazing and funny. Sometimes, the timing on these things is just so… *chef’s kiss* So, on Monday, we learned that Prince Harry is writing a memoir and it won’t come out until next year. It was sort of Keen-like announcement, honestly, and one likely made in a hurry because Page Six had the scoop. But still, usually the Sussex-brand is to wait to announce sh-t until it’s close to being finished. Well, Prince William has taken their “thing” and it blew up in his face! On Wednesday, Kensington Palace announced that William put HIS name on a book as well, and it’s already done and ready for pre-order. So basically it looks like two days after Harry’s memoir news broke, William ran in the room and shrieked “I HAVE A BOOK TOO! THE OTHER BROTHER CAN WRITE TOO!”

The book is Earthshot: How to Save Our Planet. While it’s already available for preorder, it won’t be out until October, to coincide with the Earthshot Prize announcement/ceremony. So why did they announce it now, this week, if not to latch onto Harry’s thing? While some outlets list William as “co-author,” the book cover just says that he wrote the introduction. And let’s be real, William didn’t really write that. His staff wrote it for him and he just put his name on it. This is the new vibe at Kensington Palace, because William and Kate are so lazy and boring: their palace staff just organize all of this sh-t and all W&K have to do is put their name on something. It’s like Kate’s silly Keenshot Institute for Buttons and Early Years. It was just something fancy for her to put her name on, there is no there there. I strongly suspect William is already extremely bored with Earthshot and bored with pretending to care about the environment. I wonder what his next big keen initiative will be? He’ll need years to come up with his next thing!

Who is the intended audience for this book? I can’t imagine people who are already environmentally conscious wanting or needing to read it. People who are apathetic are not going to care about it. It’s like the Keens just launch things without genuine thought or purpose.

    • taris says:

one of these days … someone will have to explain to me what exactly earth shot is

      • NiqGee says:

I laughed at this at first, but then I realised it’s true. I have no idea what Earthshot is or what it’s supposed to be about or achieve.

      • RoyalBlue says:

it’s a play on JFK’s moonshot mission to get to the moon. so willieleaks has copied and turned it into earthshot to save the earth.

      • Rice says:

Sounds like a lame video game.

      • nina says:

@Rice. Actually there is a video game by that name. PWT named his award Earthshot without doing due diligence (no surprise there) regarding the name. Of course the company refused to relinquish the name. Their games are actually based on environmental issues

  2. JT says:

OMG. Nobody cares about Earthshot. Not even William cares enough about it. He shilled more for David Attenborough than for his own work. There’s no way he will be able to sustain this awards show for ten years as planned. I suspect this will be the one and only prize ceremony especially if the ratings don’t do well. And how does all of the helicopter trips, in a pandemic no less, fit into book of “solutions?” Just write the damn book in gardening already Bill. That’s where the real expertise lies.

  3. gilda says:

Bahaha he really thinks of himself as the the saviour of mankind, doesn’t he? Now that he fixed racism for good, completely eradicated it, the word has no meaning… he will save the planet with an introduction.

Looking forward to Kate cosplaying an earth warrior in her unsustainable, unethical wardrobe. She might even repeat some looks, for the environment!!

  4. Asking for a friend says:

Even his Elegant Otherness doesn’t know. He has to wait for Harry to do something new to copy

    • BothSidesNow says:

TOB and his tooth will “announce” another earth shattering project soon. As well as Keen Guevara 🙄 that will be 10 years in the making as well!

  5. Lizzie says:

He is continuously (and elegantly!) chasing Harry. He never catches up though.

If he was smart, which no, but if he was he would make a quip about Harry’s book like ‘Hope he remembers when I did such and such for him’ and let it go. Good lord he just keeps making Harry shine with his stupidity.

  6. MrsBanjo says:

Oof, every time I see that image of William with the goofy smile toward the bottom, I’m reminded of a Doctor Who character David Walliams played.

    • Aeval says:

Ha! Accurate. And whenever I see that picture of him at the bottom, the one where he’s on the phone and meant to look as though he’s working, I always imagine him saying, “Yes, I understand that, but I do not think it’s fair for the Crown to bear the cost of a lukewarm peperoni P’zone when it took your staff nearly 45 minutes to deliver it. Frankly, it’s an outrage.”

  7. serena says:

Lmao, how petty and jealous, this is hilarious.

  8. Guest says:

No one is checking on this.
He must be so peeved that he wasn’t able to get his hands on invictus. A global event that brings lot of press.

    • JT says:

I think he tried to steal Invictus, interestingly enough. When Harry announced that he was folding the Endeavor Awards with the IG, Knauf sent out a press release trying to credit Harry’s work to the Royal Foundation. I also saw a lot of stans say that Harry stole the Invictus games from William. He is so mad that Harry walked away with his work which is why he tried to take over Harry’s military patronages.

    • Lori says:

Invictus would have been a bank holiday game of frisbee with beers and bros if Todd (i know its supposed to TOBB) ever got his hands on it.

  9. Becks1 says:

I feel like someone came up with Earthshot and pitched it to william as a way for him to have a “legacy” and look like he’s working without actually having to be involved at all, besides a few IG posts. Every article that mentions it (not that many) indicate that he doesnt even plan to attend every awards presentation, definitely the first one but who knows after that .What dedication!

I mean on the one hand, fine. He doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel and he can just use his platform to support and raise awareness for an initiative like this. Same thing with Kate and “Hold Still” – that wasn’t her project, she just wrote the intro and did some promo for it, and that’s fine.

But then William can’t act like Earthshot is his Invictus games equivalent or that it gets him out of doing any other work.

    • JT says:

@Becks1 Exactly. Just like Kate’s Broken Britain was cooked up for her to compete with Meg, William’s Earthshot is the same. This fool has no passion about the environment nor does he care. His entire expertise in this area is “my father and grampa did things for the environment.” He’s just trying to compete with Harry and he is failing miserably which is why he hardly promotes it. I said upthread that if this ceremony doesn’t perform well, it’ll will die, but going from his behavior it’s probably already DOA.

    • Amy Bee says:

      @Becks: I think you’re right.

    • sunny says:

Truly his aversion to work is so damaging. Earthshot is a joke not because the idea itself is bad but because the execution of Elegant Bill is so terrible. This summer has seen enormous impacts of climate change- imagine the kinds convening his team could be doing, supporting thought leadership, bringing awareness, if he cared just the smallest amount. What a waste.

  10. Scorpion says:

😂🤭 This is getting embarrassing! I have no words… Someone check if the EarthShot book is now on the NYT bestseller list.

  11. Amy Bee says:

I think the announcement of this book would have been more splashy had it not been announced the day before that Harry was writing a memoir. I think this is one time that William didn’t want to appear to be competing with Harry. The Earthshot Twitter page quietly announced this book on late Tuesday night and KP retweeted it the next day. After which the royal rota tweeted about the news. It was very muted. I’m sure William was pissed off that Harry is writing a book and that he stole the spotlight from his project. He should have thought of the consequences before bullying Harry out of the country.

  12. equality says:

The whole Earthshot award and the book don’t really seem impressive. I would be more impressed if they had decided on different initiatives related to their prizes and funded actual things being done already. I can’t figure out if the prizes will do this or if they will just be money handed out for an idea and you use it for a big vacation or to buy a house or whatever you want.

    • JT says:

I don’t think anybody knows what the purpose of this prize really is or what it does. There is hardly any publicity around it.

      • Becks1 says:

How dare you JT. This is the most prestigious and important environmental award EVER given out! How can you doubt PWT’s word!!?!?!?!?!? Thats all you need to know!

  13. Eating Popcorn says:

Can I just say I think that Earthshot is the stupidest name I’ve ever heard. Why not the HRH Prince William Environmental Prize. Then it would be clear what it is – whoever is in charge of the marketing at KP is the worst and should be fired immediately. Earthshot sounds like some sort of space thing…

    • Agreatreckoning says:

Whoever is in charge of the marketing at KP is also pretty terrible at research or not coming up with new ideas too. Will announced his big “project” in October 2020.
      https://www.earthshot.us/
Founded in 2019 by cleantech veterans Bob Wyman and Mark Bernstein, Earthshot™ is a collaborative effort among many experienced practitioners in the field of environment, energy, gaming, media and tech. (They do have video games) This is also on their site-
Back in the twentieth century, we were in a race to reach the moon. Today, we are in a race to inspire a new generation of dreamers, inventors, and everyone else to help save Spaceship Earth.

Last activity I found on the Earthshot Prize trademark had to do with letters of suspension being written/sent/emailed. April 30, 2021. Don’t know what that all means.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Agreatreckoning, I read somewhere (here?) that they either got a letter from an attorney or a lawsuit for using a copyrighted name–Earthshot. That’s all I remember, and I hope I remember correctly.

  14. Layla says:

Funny they decided to release that information now. Definitely not to compete with his brother.
Also, we haven’t heard a peep about Keenwell Centre. I thought this was her most ambitious project yet.

  15. India says:

Just Look At The Clench Jaw Stomping Up Those Steps. Who wants to read anything by him?

    • RedWeatherTiger says:

That picture makes it look like he is carrying invisible suitcases, and it cracks me up.

  16. Catherine says:

A book and a BBC five part doc for an award that hasn’t even been given out yet. I’m all for funding initiatives related to sustainability because these projects have a hard time getting access to financing. And the fact that they managed to get the amount of funding they did is impressive. The problem is instead of treating it like what it is; an award. They are using it to try to give William gravitas that he hasn’t earned. And instead of putting the focus on specific issues they are putting the focus on William. I don’t think Earthshot is designed just to compete with Harry. I think it is mainly designed to compete with Charles. In recent years Charles was finally getting praise and attention after years of ridicule for his environmental work. William is clout chasing off that. He knew he could steal attention from Charles’ actual work just by being keen. And yes he did need something he “created” to compete with all the successful initiatives that Harry created. So Earthshot kills two birds with one stone. That interview that Harry did with Charles where they talked about eco/environmental topics probably made William furiously jealous. I think the tabloids unconditional support of William’s new found environmental activism was part of his collusion with them. Take note. The media either still either largely sneers at, ignores or declares Charles activism too radical. They clearly want to discredit Harry’s activism as too woke and/or hypocritical. William is being lauded as an environmentalist even though he hasn’t done anything.

  17. Mooshe1 says:

TOB doesn’t care about this stuff. He has no passion for it, is bored, and going through the motions. His jealousy of Harry is eating him up! It was hard enough for him to handle it when Harry was being the comic relief but now since Harry’s stepping as a professional Will’s fuming.

  18. Betsy says:

How to save the planet: first things first, how many homes do you have, how many square feet, how often do you travel internationally and how often do you take planes and helicopters? If you own land, how much of it is dedicated to trees, meadows, natural habitat and how much is capturing carbon. What, if anything, do you do to encourage biodiversity if you have land, or do you actively discourage biodiversity so that you have grouse and stags to stalk.

    Just asking.

  19. TabithaD says:

    He just “wrote” the intro.
And let’s face, he won’t actually even have written that – that would have been too much like hard work.
I just can’t see the point of this Earthshot thing (their own website doesn’t even make it clear what they do), plus a prize is not “prestigious” just cos you say it is, and it’s even put me off David Attenborough what with all his obsequious fawning to this useless tosspot.
Personally, I doubt William even knows enough about environmental issues to hold his own in a conversation at an ordinary dinner party.

The Amazon description of the book says:
“With an introduction from Prince William and contributions from Sir David Attenborough, Shakira Mebarak, Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, Naoko Yamazaki and Christiana Figueres, EARTHSHOT shows us how, by working together, we can solve earth’s greatest challenges.
    About the Author:
Colin Butfield is co-founder of Studio Silverback, Executive Producer of the WWF’s Our Planet project and an advisor for the Earthshot Prize.
Jonnie Hughes is an award-winning natural history TV producer, co-founder of Studio Silverback, and bestselling author and co-writer of Sir David Attenborough’s A Life on Our Planet.”

    • AnonyCat says:

Wow. So he didn’t even edit the anthology. He literally wrote the introduction, at most

  20. L4frimaire says:

Based on these comments, it seems like William is already bored with this toy. There is so much advocacy he could have done on behalf of the environment, especially when we were shut down and could rethink our carbon footprint and environmental impact. But no, he did nothing and didn’t exactly talk his pet project up until announcing the awards ceremony, which piggybacks on others actual work. William’s main focus are trying to destroy his sister-in-law and his brother, and then undermining his father, in that order. The rest is busy work duty. I’m never buying anything the Cambridge’s put their name to, regardless of the quality, and he didn’t even write it. This isn’t exactly “An Inconvenient Truth”.

  21. ShazBot says:

The problem with KP comms has always been that they’re too liberal with the use of embiggening adjectives. Why is this book ‘definitive’? Why was Kate’s questionnaire ‘landmark’? Honestly, it’s the thing that irritates me the most.

The problem with their initiatives (environment, early years), is that the research is already done and people know what needs to be done – it’s just the impetus for governments and big business to actually do it that is lacking.

The Goldman Prize already exists for the environment, and it awards some great initiatives, but we’re at the point where we need large scale change…where people with power and wealth need to start getting comfortable with being a little uncomfortable.

Meghan was a gift to the RF and they were too jealous and racist to let her lead the way forward for them – small, impactful initiatives is really what they should be doing.

  22. Likeyoucare says:

Somebody should check whether the money for the prize is still there?
Willie is notorius for using and borrowing money/fund from his charities.

  23. Keri says:

I just want one rogue reporter to ask him about his many helicopter trips when he is promoting this book. I want to watch his head explode at the audacity. Surely there is one UK reporter with a set of balls and some integrity, right? Just one person to get the ball rolling and the subsequent avalanche when the media decides to let loose on PWT will be glorious to watch.

  24. SnoodleDumpling says:

Why does nearly every photograph of this man and his wife feel like a stock photo. WHY.
