VF: Prince Andrew & Fergie might get remarried now that Philip has passed

Given the fact that Prince Andrew is facing a civil lawsuit in America court for raping Virginia Roberts Giuffre in the 1990s, it feels like his PR focus should probably be on that alone. Instead, we’ve heard repeatedly that Andrew isn’t taking the lawsuit seriously, that he believes he can make a comeback, that he’ll be around for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year. Interestingly enough, Andrew is now trying to soften his PR with another tried-and-true storyline: maybe he’ll remarry his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. For years, we’ve heard that they would eventually remarry, and the rumor was always “they’ll only remarry after Prince Philip dies.” Because Philip hated Fergie. The Queen, on the other hand, is fond of Fergie, so much so that Fergie was invited to join Andrew in Balmoral this summer. Well, here we go again, and this time it’s Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair with the scoop:

As the Duke and Duchess of York excitedly await the birth of their second grandchild (Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s baby is almost due), there could be an even bigger announcement for the family in the near future. Sources close to Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew tell Vanity Fair that the beleaguered duke is keen to remarry if he’s able to move on with his life following allegations of sexual abuse.

“Sarah and Andrew have been closer than ever in the past year,” a well-placed source says. “They still love and care for each other a great deal and have been living together during the pandemic. It has rekindled something and I can see a second wedding happening if it all goes Andrew’s way.”

Since he’s been embroiled in the scandal, Sarah has stood by her ex-husband, insisting he is a “thoroughly good man, he’s a very gentle man, he’s a really good father” during an appearance on Lorraine last month. And just last week while in Poland on a charity trip, Sarah spoke of her commitment to Andrew “no matter what,” fueling further talk of them getting back together.

Sarah’s visit to Balmoral during the Queen’s private holiday illustrates the closeness not only between her and her ex-husband, but between her and the monarch. The duchess recently spoke about admiring the Queen and the Queen is equally fond of Sarah and would likely be delighted to see the couple formally reunited.

“It could very well happen, but right now the priority is Sarah supporting Andrew at a very difficult time,” says a second source, adding that both the Duke and Duchess are trying to keep a low profile and will not want to do anything that puts them in the spotlight. Friends of the former couple have always believed a remarriage could be in the cards. While it would never have happened while the Duke of Edinburgh was alive because of a long-term rift between the prince and his estranged daughter-in-law, the Duke’s passing has reignited talk that the couple could formally get back together.

[From Vanity Fair]

I’ve wondered if Andrew and Fergie would play this card once again, and here it is. To be fair, it was always clear that this would be a storyline once Philip died. Philip was used an excuse repeatedly over the years for why Fergie and Andrew would not remarry. Nowadays… well, in both the US and UK, spousal privilege exists. Meaning, a husband and wife have protected communication with each other and they cannot be compelled to testify against each other. Both Fergie and Andrew had significant criminal connections to Jeffrey Epstein, and Fergie knowingly took money from Epstein. While this “will they get remarried?!” thing is a PR move, it’s also a legal strategy to protect one another.

They will do whatever they think affords them the best outcome, it’s as simple as that. They’re in this together to the end it seems.

  2. Becks1 says:

I wonder how well it would work as a PR tactic, I feel like most people would see through it besides maybe hardcore royalists, and they don’t need to waste PR on those people (because they are already on the side of the royals and already think Virginia is a liar etc.)

Anyway if it did happen I would not be surprised, but who knows.

  3. aquarius64 says:

They’re going for the spousal privilege. Now that Andrew is 9th in line to the throne he doesn’t need the queen’s permission to re-marry Fergie.

    • Selene says:

Right, they seem to be each other’s source of comfort. In all honesty, I never even knew that the Queen liked Fergie so much. I thought it was the complete opposite!

      • Jan says:

The Queen knew Fergie from the time she was a child her father was the Queen’s horse trainer or something to do with horses, even Philip loved Fergie, until that toe sucking episode.
The Queen have been paying off Fergie bills for years, and always kept in contact with her.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Major Ronald Ferguson was for many years the polo manager for both Prince Philip and Prince Charles.

QEII preferred Fergie over Diana as Fergie was very much truly a dog, horse and country girl.

    • MissMarirose says:

Spousal privilege wouldn’t cover things that happened when they weren’t married. It’s not a get-out-of-testimony-free card.

  4. Ainsley7 says:

I kinda wonder if they’ll try to use the wedding as a distraction after the trial is over as a way to rehab his image. Being married wouldn’t really change anything for Fergie and Andrew. They had an open marriage before and Fergie simply moved to a different part of the house after their divorce.

They’ve been pushing their love story to the public for ages. Like how the Queen made them divorce, but they wanted to stay married. She wasn’t allowed to be with the family because Philip hated her, and they want to remarry after he dies. All that has been reported about for years. Maybe this has always been their plan if shit hit the fan.

Fergie is weirdly likable. No matter what she does, she seems to get forgiven. A decade or so ago, a wedding may have worked. The internet and social media have made it impossible for it to work in this day and age. I want Andrew locked up, but I’d kinda love to see a Fergie wedding. She’s just so over the top. So, I hope she finds someone else to marry in order to rehab her image after Andrew goes to jail.

    • Eurydice says:

Maybe Fergie is weirdly likable because she seems so hapless and bumbling, like a TV character that stumbles in and out of embarrassing situations, but is still endearing.

      • Ainsley7 says:

She’s like a grifter version of Lucy from I Love Lucy. That fits.

      • Lorelei says:

        @Eurydice that’s exactly it!! lmao

      • TEALIEF says:

Fergie is long past her Pippi Longstocking age and loveable antics. She and VF can’t Budgie the Little helicopter over lands and seas dropping tall tales of long love, abiding admiration, and fairy tale marriages. Why do I still have a subscription to VF? She and her ex had and still have extravagant tastes that even their well lined pockets could not and still cannot not keep up with. They had depraved associations with Epstein. Sex and money, that’s the main plot line in their story. Was her ex-husband a “thoroughly good man, [and] very gentle man” with Virginia Giuffre?

  5. Sofia says:

It’s been said for years but I’ll still be surprised if it happens.

  6. Seraphina says:

I see the theme of the wedding being Smoke and Mirrors.

  7. Tanguerita says:

these conjugal visits are going to be really fun.

  8. Noki says:

But are they actually in a relationship and still in love ? Lol or was Fergie down in her luck and was just in need of taking care of?

  9. sandy says:

    hahahahahahahahaha

  10. Red Weather Tiger says:

I’m surprised the article didn’t claim Fergie is Brenda’s FAVORITE daughter-in-law. Sure, sure, Sophie often gets trotted out as the favorite, and Cams NEVER does, but since Queenie has a revolving door of favorites, why not??

  11. Eurydice says:

    “I may vomit.”

  12. Rapunzel says:

Fergie knows what side her bread is buttered on and will remarry him if it benefits her bottom line. I’ve always wondered just what kind of relationship she and Randy PedoAndy. Her toe sucking incident, for example, has always made me wonder just what she does for and with him.

  13. girl_ninja says:

Last week I commented that Andrew dense and people rightly corrected me and said that he was just arrogant and entitled. Yes. That’s what he is. He’s is also an awful person with no soul. I hope Virginia gets her justice.

  14. Miss Jupitero says:

My understanding of the law is that although the spousal communications privilege survives the end of a marriage, communications made *after* the marriage ends are not protected. They will find it difficult to use this to protect actions and communications made after their divorce.

    • ABW says:

This, exactly. If they were to remarry, spousal privilege would cover the periods in which they were married, but not when they were divorced.

  15. Lorelei says:

That Fergie is one lucky lady!

  16. psl says:

EEEUUUWWWW, she’d marry him again after all the Epstein stories are out?

    GROSS!

  17. Liz version 700 says:

If ever two people deserved each other. I have to give their daughters credit…they are to outward appearances so much less terrible than their parents. Both should leave after the Queen passes and get away from this mess…

    • BothSidesNow says:

Yes, Fergoe and PedoAndy deserve each other at this point. But I do agree with you that their daughters, well Beatrice, have grown into lovely young ladies. Though, I side eye Eugenie with a great deal of eye strain. Eugenie happily takes pot shots at Meghan for the supposed upset that Meghan cause at Bea’s wedding, but Bea wasn’t upset about but Eugenie won’t let it go. She’s like a dog with a bone. And I side eye her husband we well. To start a relationship with someone that is engaged, but that mostly falls at his feet, but still. And the quick pregnancy too.

  18. Julia K says:

That bright lemon yellow dress!! She appears to have pulled an all night shift at Mel’s diner. Someone needs to love her enough to tell her the truth when she has made an unfortunate clothing choice.
