Iman in Harris Reed at the Met Gala: stole the show?

Last night was our return to the Met Gala, 16 months after it was last canceled due to the pandemic. The theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” which seemed quite easy compared to past themes. I saw some tweets that the fashion was disappointing, but I was just thrilled to see celebrities dressed up again. It felt somewhat safe, considering that proof of vaccination and masks were required, at least inside the venue. The photographers were masked, some of the interviewers were masked, and there was a nice vibe to it. Much of that was due to Keke Palmer’s phenomenal interviewing skills. She hosted Vogue’s red carpet stream along with Ilana Glazer, which I’ll cover in another post. I wanted to start with Iman, who absolutely slayed in this fabulous giant feather tiered Harris Reed gown and hat.

This look is striking from almost all angles, with an open structured skirt featuring tiers of golden embossed feathers, a gold brocade bustier and matching boot cut slacks. Reed told Keke during their interview that he approached Iman to model for him because she’s iconic. She is, and this look will go down in Met history. Keke was incredible with Iman, as she was throughout the night. She thanked her for being a trailblazer with her makeup line.

Laura Harrier was also in gold, in Altuzarra. Look at how that amazing dress drapes on her. I love the zig zag way the bust connects. Pure 70s glam and another one of my favorite looks.

I liked a lot of the looks more than I have in previous years.

Iman – WOW. that is a statement dress for the Met gala. Amazing.

I loved Laura Harrier’s look too. Very different from Iman’s but gorgeous.

  4. Jezz says:

Who is the red-headed girl with her? Very cool looking! Maybe her and Bowie’s daughter?

  5. LightPurple says:

Iman was simply stunning. She was the shining star.

I have the good fortune to live near Iman. I think we New Yorkers have an unspoken agreement to not make a big deal of the celebrities in our midst and gawk at them, but Iman is one of the few who make that difficult for me at times. She is the most striking Amazon goddess you will ever see, and could’ve stolen the show in just a t-shirt and jeans. But I’m thankful that she deigned to grace us with her presence in this exquisite ensemble. I feel like it also would’ve fit the religious theme the Met Gala did a few years back. The gold, feathers, and halo are giving me angel vibes.

  7. Amy Bee says:

Yes she did steal the show.

  8. Merricat says:

Iman wins top honors for the night, and it was fantastic to see her. She made up for my disappointment with Rhianna (although I give R a pass because she’s crazy in love right now).

  9. Sunshine says:

Absolute Queen. Best dressed hands down.

  10. mellie says:

One of my very, very favorite looks ever. She is so beautiful and serene!

Wow. That’s how you dress for the Met Gala.

  12. WintryMix says:

I adore Harris Reed’s work!! Also I’m not sure but I think Harris might use they/them pronouns?

  13. anniefannie says:

What I love the most is that very few women could pull off this look. It takes attitude + and Iman is that + 10. She slays without trying!
Iman is what we needed in 2021!!!

  14. DrSnark says:

Iman looks like the patron saint of America. A cultural icon, widow to another cultural icon and both of them immigrants. She is the US at its best.

  15. ReginaGeorge says:

Iman teaching the children how it’s done. SLAYYYY MAMA!

  16. Jess says:

    AMAZING!

  17. Carmen says:

Who is Laura Harrier? I never heard of her. That dress is gorgeous, though. Liquid gold.

Her new name — Iman Met. Imetala? Imanala?

  22. lucylee says:

Iman is the epitome of classic beauty and style. The display of barely covered boobs became boring as the evening went on.

  23. Ann H says:

Iman for the win! Iman, Dan Levy, Winnie know how to do “Camp”. The others just don’t “get it”, IMO.

  24. incognito08 says:

Iman did what the kids nowadays says, “She understood the assignment and ate!”. She was definitely my pick for best dressed and I love how over-the-top her outfit was. Iman was glowing too. I would love to see it in person.

  25. Kynesgrove89 says:

Iman is a legend! She is one of the few models who absolutely wears the clothes instead of the clothes wearing them.
