Kaia Gerber in Oscar de la Renta at the Met Gala: delicate & lovely?

Kaia Gerber departs from the Carlyle Hotel for the MET Gala

There was a lot of energy for Kaia Gerber at this year’s Met Gala. She looked beautiful in this delicate-looking Oscar de la Renta. It feels inspired by Hubert de Givenchy’s collaborations with Audrey Hepburn. But is it part of the “American lexicon”? I don’t know. But it’s very Audrey and very ballerina too.

Bonus Kaia: she went to the Met Gala afterparties with her boyfriend Jacob Elordi.

Jasmine Tookes in Oscar de la Renta. I actually like this? It feels on-theme, like it was made from drop-cloths during the Revolutionary War.

Anok Yai in Oscar de la Renta. Beautiful? For sure. Doesn’t have much to do with the theme, it’s just a pretty model in a pretty dress.

Bonus WTFery: Dan Levy in Loewe. This is not great, baby.

Dan Levy in Loewe was AMAZING!! The theme of his outfit🔥 😍

    • August Rain says:

Love it too. Unconditionally. It’s a statement piece, literally.

    • Mac says:

      I love this bold look.

    • tempest prognosticator says:

I agree. His look is perfect for the event.

    • Sarah B says:

Same. It’s the MET Gala. He brought it.

    • Scal says:

It’s over the top perfection that perfectly subverts the theme in a hugh fashion way. I loved it!!

    • terra says:

Came here just to say that exactly that. I adored his look the second I saw it.

I love it because it speaks to me on a personal level – I’m something of a map nerd – and because it’s actually ON THEME, unlike 99% of attendees.

The purpose of the Met Gala is for the guests to use fashion to make a statement and Dan’s look clearly has a message and a point of view. Is it wearable in day-to-day life? No, of course not – that’s THE POINT. It’s subversive, sly, and controversial while also managing to be loud, fun, and wacky. It’s fan-flippin’-tastic.

    • goofpuff says:

I love his look too! 🙂

  2. Alexandria says:

Ah to be tall, young and beautiful. Kaia is blessed and looks gorgeous. Not really for Met Gala but at least she looks great.

    • Ainsley7 says:

Yeah, I feel like the dress is a good starting point for some awesome accessories. It just needs more.

    • Nikki* says:

For me to love a Met Gala look, it HAS to reflect the theme! That’s the point, to use beauty & creativity in reflecting a theme. So while I love the look, it’s a big, disappointing NO for me.

  3. cabooklover says:

I felt like Kaia was seconds away from popping out of the top of her dress. It was a pretty dress but it wasn’t WOW. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • TQ says:

Agree. the bust line was very low and I expected her to pop out. It was nice but not amazing to me.

    • Coco says:

Text of AOC’s dress: Tax The Rich!
Subtext is text of Kaia Gerber’s dress: Free The Nipple!!!

    • Seraphina says:

It would have bene a lovely dress had it not been for that bodice being so low cut.

    • Naomi says:

Her awkward hand doesn’t help. What a strange way to pose, especially when you’re wearing a black dress, so the hand looks like a fleshy fish stuck to the front of her dress.

Never thought I’d say this but she is maybe a year away from being a really good model.

And, look, she is smiling and looks happy. A new thing for her on the red carpet. Boyfriend could’ve stepped up his look, but no big deal.

She did a much better Hepburn than Kendall Jenner, that’s for sure. Kendall was near naked and that is so not Audrey.

  4. Snappyfish says:

This might have been the best I have ever seen Kaia look. I liked her nod to Bianca Jagger’s met dress & that she knew the Halston history. When I saw Pete Davison, who looked ridiculous but I don’t get the allure, I felt a little awkward for her

    • AmelieOriginal says:

Margaret Qualley was also at the event and he also dated her. I’m pretty sure there were probably several women at the Met Gala who dated Pete Davidson, not just Kaia and Margaret. The guy gets around, he’s like the millennial/Gen Z town bike, everyone gets a ride at some point lol.

  5. T says:

Kaia’s dress was created based on a former Met Gala look from Bianca Jagger! Perfectly done.

    • BeanieBean says:

I had to look that up. Wow! It’s a little too on-point. If you’re doing an exact copy, the original always looks better. I’d forgotten how fabulous Bianca was.

  6. Noki says:

What is the red carpet that everyone is pictured on,is that the hotel? And New York is the only place i see where hotels allow fans to que outside yelling, screaming, taking pictures etc

  7. Miranda says:

Kaia is like, almost annoyingly pretty. Ugh. But I love that dress, and I think the tape that’s keeping her boobs from making a surprise appearance deserves a shout-out. The only thing I have a quibble with is the length of the dress. Like it can’t decide whether it wants to be floor-length or tea-length, and just ends up looking too short.

    • AnnaC says:

I had the same thought. IMO would have been lovely at tea length. And while I’m sure the top placement was intentional, it looked like it just wasn’t fitted right and it slipped down.

  8. August Rain says:

Kaia’s dress is so boring and way too tight. She’s already rail thin, why tighten it even more? The inverted ruffled bottom is something I’d never want to bring back.

  9. MellyMel says:

Anok is one of the prettiest people…loved her look. And Dan is on theme and did something other than wear a black suit, so points for that.

  10. Anna says:

Kaia mostly inherited Rande’s genes. She is pretty for sure, but it is wrong to push her into a modelling career. She is no supermodel material. I feel sorry for her.

    • AnnaC says:

I agree; she’s pretty but her brother has a far more interesting look and from what I’ve seen in print and when he’s done runway grabs your attention more than she does.

      • Lena says:

I watched the E livestream and I missed most everyone except her and seeing her pose she is so pretty but awkward in motion for a model. Doesn’t have that ‘it’ factor her mom had. That said I thought her gown was really pretty. Would be great for the Oscars but not the met and follow the theme which was so easy this year.

    • Driver8 says:

Honestly, she looks like an average person to me.

      • Shanaynay says:

Agreed! I don’t think she has that spark!

      • goofpuff says:

Yeah she’s the the average “pretty” girl. There’s nothing interesting or exciting or different about her face that makes her stand out. She would blend intoa sea of pretty girls which doesn’t help her stand out for her career.

  11. Basi says:

Mad respect for Daniel Levy going with theme and making a statement…. but could someone pls explain what his statement is. 😃 (All due respect. I’m not being funny)

    Kaia looks nice.
