I’m sad you didn’t cover Lewis Hamilton at the Met Gala! His look was great and he bought a table and invited black designers to sit with him. This year’s MET fashion wasn’t great (other than IMAN, what a Goddess), but I thought it was amazing that he did that.

    • E.D says:

Completely agree about Lewis Hamilton and how he invited a whole table of emerging black designers.
      Super cool I thought.

  2. Diana says:

I am so bummed there is no post about AOC at the MET! If I missed it… please take this down. Thanks so much!

    • Becks1 says:

I think she’s covered in the…..Debbie Harry post? She’s definitely on one of the posts.

    • Emma says:

She was awesome!! Wintour will never invite the Trumps again (though Karlie gets a pass????) but AOC is in!

    • Laura says:

It was super cringey, I’m embarrassed she thought it was a good idea. She always has her weird fans to prop her up though.

      • pottymouth pup says:

web searches for “tax the rich” increased substantially after pics of her in the dress were posted so I’m not sure it’s the resounding failure you think it was (I’m pretty sure her “weird” fans know what it means & wouldn’t be the ones to search for it)

      • Laura says:

lmfao as if anyone was actually googling “tax the rich” to do a deep dive on it

      • North of Boston says:

“Tax the rich” was trending on Twitter last night.

If anyone thinks that AOC didn’t get her message across to large #s of people, I lmfao at them.

      • Krystina says:

        @Laura
weird fans? You mean reasonable, sane people who want to see the rich taxed?
        Tell us you’re a right-winger without telling us you’re a right-winger

  3. ME says:

I’ve been really impressed with Jen Aniston and how seriously she’s taking the pandemic. Now if everyone had just done the same we’d be out of this already. I say good for her.

    • Susan says:

Same. And you know, this is her year to really shine at the Emmys with the Morning Show. If she were the famewhore many accuse her of being, she’d be there no matter what.

      • Persephone says:

Finally! I’m so glad people are seeing this.

      • Emma says:

I think she was kind of a fame….. but she changed a lot since she was with justin. For the better. Even if it didn’t end in a forever fairytale, he gave her a different view to all of this. Shes more relaxed then ever, i guess its also as she aged but he was a good influence. He was not a hollywood-type of person she usually have around her. That’s my impression.

    • milliemollie says:

Yes, she’s making smart and safe choices.

    • Margot says:

      Totally. Smart lady!

      • Sidewithkids says:

Y’all funny to me. Selected memory, I guesss, she was out there last year in the middle of it. Her friend Jimmy Kimmel hosted, she thought she was gonna win but Zendaya took it. Ring any bells.

      • Becks1 says:

The Emmys were completely different last year – no audience (or very limited audience) and she went to do the bit with Kimmel and then went straight home. There was no huge red carpet (if there was – I cant remember that – but she did not walk it) and no after-parties etc. Remember a year ago we were still in a bad place with the pandemic and there was no available vaccine, so things still looked really different.

(not that we’re in such a great place now, but at least last year we could say “wait for the vaccine…..”)

  4. Becks1 says:

I’m not clicking the link at work (some sites get flagged), but wasn’t the Dude on disability?

    • Anners says:

I read it – apparently he hints at a political activist past (like Jeff Dowd, the irl person the character was based on) and was a roadie on a not-real Metallica tour, but that things have been a bit of this and that since then. But apparently that’s all he ever hints at about how he survives financially. But disability would make sense.

  5. Maria says:

I agree with her and while I understand the motives for going ahead with it and that the attendees were all vaxxed and I did enjoy the fashion, I’m still a little disappointed at the Met Gala going forward this year. I know the major attendees were required to be vaccinated but I can’t find anything about anyone else (assistants, makeup artists, valets, what have you). I would assume the policy goes for them too, but you can never be sure…

    • ME says:

Not to mention all the MET parties afterwards. I heard Kanye was at a MET party but didn’t attend the MET Gala. Makes you wonder if you only had to be vaxxed to attend the Gala but the private parties afterwards are a free-for-all type of thing.

    • Joanna says:

Agree! We’re not back to normal and it’s too soon IMO

  6. Kate says:

Are we not gonna talk about Ciara’s football dress?!

    • stagaroni says:

I will! I thought it was on point for the evening and I thought she looked great…football games were/are considered an American pastime, and she wore her husbands jersey number. I loved her hair, very retro cheerleader-ish.

      What did you think?

I’m going to laugh so hard if you say you hated it!!

      • blisteringsun says:

@stargoni-someone posted that she also wore her husband’s superbowl ring, which i loved too. as a sports fan, i have so much sports related ‘fashion’.

      • stagaroni says:

        @blistering,
I didn’t see the ring…was it cover in angora (I just aged myself) I too, love my sports fashion.

      • Kate says:

I absolutely loved it! American pastime (check), referencing an American designer (check) (she said it was inspired by Geoffrey Beene’s football dress from the 1960’s), accessories on point (check), hair and makeup on fire (check), interesting color (check). Even the shoulders were squared off like football uniforms! And her football purse! Gah!

    • blisteringsun says:

it was in one of the round up posts, i don’t remember which one. maybe the moschino one? i think she looked great. there were a few sports related looks that i thought were fun.

    • booboocita says:

I liked it. I thought it was droll.

    • Seraphina says:

I am a major HATER – she always looks good and her husband, well, he is delicious. That is all.
      A beautiful couple.

  7. DuchessL says:

Yassss it is great the MET is not just reserves for the entertainment industry. Sports is also entertainment and I have a feeling that events loke this presenting women will be the way to go to make women gain more glory/money in the future. Make them unboring please. Give them a personnality please. And let us see beautiful healthy strong bodies!!!!

  8. Annaloo. says:

I thought the Met Gala was a great thing this year. The diverse displays of interpreting America is what we need bc it emphasized that we cannot seek out solutions and answers from only one group of people. There is room in the tent for what was and what will be. I can hang with Old Glam Hollywood style next to Afro futurism fashion… I think that is what America is about, and our greatest gift and future is right here, in front of us and they are in the groups we have never uplifted. The arts are always the avant garde and harbingers of what will come, and fashion being the portal to pop culture means we’ll see these unique influences even more. It was fantastic

    • stagaroni says:

      What a thoughtful, lovely response.

I will be celebrating a milestone birthday this year and I have been reflecting on life in general and mine in particular. When I read posts such as yours, I feel such a sense of pride and relief that no matter what happens, there are kind, compassionate individuals such as yourself who will lift us up. It is such a gift.

    • Merricat says:

I like the way you think, Annaloo.

  9. booboocita says:

I adore Elliot Page, and I think he’s incredibly brave, but dear God, that Balenciaga suit needed some tailoring in a big way. He looked like someone’s kid brother who borrowed his big bro’s tux for the prom.

  10. Basi says:

I admire Jennifer Aniston taking it so seriously.

A wellness podcast guy I listen to recently came out as not getting the vaccine. He got Covid. I was shocked he was not vacc’ed. But maybe it’s a thing in LA (for fart sniffer wellness types to go against the vax) and Jennifer doesn’t want anything to do with that.

    • SKF says:

There is a FANTASTIC podcast called Conspirituality that is such a good listen. Three yogis who also happen to have expertise in cults, psychology and journalism discuss what is happening with the wellness and yoga communities and how they are currently awash with COVID and vaccine misinformation and conspiracies. They are so intelligent, thoughtful and well-spoken.

  11. minx says:

I just loved the Met looks this year. Some flopped but most were fun, colorful and imaginative.

  12. detritus says:

RIP Norm. You didn’t lose. It was a draw.

  13. MangoAngelesque says:

The link about Billie Eilish and JLo described JLo’s VMAs “ensemble” gorgeously:

“…she’s dressed like a stripper from the Roman Empire.”

    Yup.

I don’t think Billie was being rude, I think she likely just legit isn’t particularly enthused about Jennifer Lopez. I mean, I doubt Jen would go crazy over Billie, or anyone, for that matter. Why do people say it’s “rude” or “classless” for anyone to not go bonkers just because someone walked up to present an award?

If she’d been blatantly disengaged during/after an actual performance, okay. Professional courtesy, social politeness, etc. But walking out to say a couple things at the VMAs? C’mon.

  14. Joanna says:

Ugh I don’t like that ash blonde color on Jen. Or in general. It’s a wussy way to go dark. If you wanna go to a dark color, go all the way. This in between shade is blah

    • North of Boston says:

Going dark “all the way” doesn’t suit some people’s complexion or features, a medium tone, or one with lighter tones near the face is fine on some folks. Nothing “wussy” about it.
