Prince William stepped out in velvet for The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards

Prince William attends Who Cares Wins Awards in London

Here are some photos of Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, out last night in London at The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards. Yes… an awards ceremony sponsored by the British tabloid The Sun. Remember, Prince Charles recently wrote an op-ed about the environment in the Daily Mail. So obviously father and son still get their leashes yanked by the British media often. This was William’s second public event in the past week – he went to work before his wife, which we will discuss in a moment. William’s first public event since his “summer holiday” was a meet-and-greet for Emergency Services Day, where he chatted with firemen and first responders. The Who Cares Wins Awards was to honor people like first responders, doctors, nurses, volunteers, scientists, etc. David Beckham and Boris Johnson were there. So was Piers Morgan.

William wore velvet, which is a style choice for mid-September, right? I associate velvet tuxedo jackets with winter-wear. People Magazine did a big write-up about how William is so stylish, and I’m shocked they didn’t refer to him as Elegant Baldemort. People did yank his chain a little bit though, noting that William “secretly battled COVID-19 last year. In light of the fact that his father Prince Charles had contracted the virus shortly before his own diagnosis, William didn’t want to alarm the public any further with the news of him also falling ill.” Yeah, that is still one of the craziest things William got away with. Hiding a significant medical issue from the public for months.

As for the work-shy wife, today she’s due to make her first public appearance in two months and four days. She scheduled her event for Prince Harry’s birthday, because of course she did. She’s due to visit an air force base, RAF Brize Norton, where she’ll meet with some of the people who organized the exodus from Afghanistan this summer. That RAF base was where thousands of refugees and British aid workers landed after they flew out of Kabul. We’ll see if she had any “work” done.

Oh, and the Cambridges wished Harry a happy birthday (so did the other palaces, all within the same five-minute window, because their social media teams coordinate).

I actually really like the suit. Interesting that he’s trying to look more fashionable in events sans Kate.

  2. Eurydice says:

    Happy Birthday, Harry!

*yawn* about TOB – you can wrap him in velvet and he’ll still be William.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

To praraphrase your line, the dull, no charisma having TOB in any other clothes is still the same.

  3. OriginalLala says:

At first I read it as The Sun’s “Who Cares (?)” awards and I laughed because that just made sense with Baldimort.

  4. Solidgolddancer says:

    Happy Birthday, Harry!! 🎉

Surprised Kate isn’t also in attendance??

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

The co-ordinated HB to Harry, from the palaces, was so sparse… it *literally* was the *least* they could say/do.

  5. MY3CENTS says:

You mean the who cares (about William) event?

  6. Seaflower says:

“Prince William stepped out in velvet for The Sun’s – Who Cares? ” Fixed it!

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Seaflower, yes, you did!!! Yes, Baldimort! We all know that you are as useless as Plan B against pregnancy when you are 7 months pregnant!! This is just exhausting for the royal rats and BP trying to turn Baldimort into something he isn’t, never was and never will be!!

  7. Becks1 says:

I like the velvet jacket look, i do think it seems a little heavy for mid-september but whatever.

I do think one of the brilliant aspects of the Cambridges “we’re not going to work for months on end” strategy is that when they do start “working” there is this sense that they are super busy. Like William doing two whole events in one week seems like a lot after two months of total silence. And we’ll see that playing out with Kate as well – that she’ll seem super busy because she’ll do maybe two or three events in September, maybe a half dozen in October, and then maybe a dozen in November/December, and then starting mid-December they’ll disappear again until the end of January.

  8. Nina says:

    Still no Kate? Veeeeery interesting

  9. Sofia says:

I do like the suit. Am I the only one who thinks that the engagements could have been reserved? Kate could go to the awards ceremony with a pretty gown and give the press and her fans new pictures to coo over about how “regal and classy” she is. And William could go to the RAF base as he directed his equerry to help someone according to reports and he flew helicopters.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Well to be fair, strategic thinking has never been their strong suit. Throwing people under the bus however……………..

    • Ainsley7 says:

It does seem a little backwards.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Sofiam excellent point!! Maybe the RAF refused to have TOBB attend and KKKeen Guevara was sent in his place. As we all know every organization that had to cut ties once Harry departed, knew that their patronage’s were now, and forever more useless, never to recover no matter. You can only shock a heart so many times to delay the inevitable.

  10. Amy Bee says:

I’ve seen royalists touting that the Cambridges were able to remain private for 2 months. What they won’t say is the press got a legal letter from the Queen not to take pictures of the family at Balmoral and the Cambridges leaked to the press that they spent part of their vacation on the Isle of Scilly and that they were thinking of moving to Windsor in exchange for that privacy.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

It’s easy to be private when you are workshy anyway. Of course the so called royalists never tell the gullible public the full and true story.

    • HeatherC says:

I wonder how pissed the Cambridges were. No pictures of the Cambridges and/or Cambridge tots with the queen in Balmoral for the front pages. Kate may have cried into her buttons that a shot of the queen, Baldemort and George walking the grounds was denied

  11. Moderatelywealthy says:

William with a half open mouth reminds me of SNL ‘s Gemma , played by Cecily Strong

  12. Lizzie says:

    Aptly named awards.

  13. Lauren says:

I kept reading “The who cares who wins” awards. Kant and Kannot really do get away with doing so very little. With all the Brexit shortages in the UK at one point the poor will really start eating the rich. Starting with the useless pair.

  14. LovesitinNM says:

He’s totally morphing into Mr Burns from the Simpsons, right? The profile is a perfect match.

  15. Melly says:

    Who cares. Exactly!

Now let me go and see if the DM has posted about Harry and Meghan in Time. I’m in the mood to laugh at watching them meltdown yet again.

  16. Harper says:

Happy Birthday, Harry! I hope he has a relaxing under the tree day with the family and dogs.

Velvet doesn’t help the TOB look any better. Of course, Kate has to come out from hiding on Harry’s birthday. It’s a secret message to him to let him know they are still connected even though they are an ocean and a continent apart.

  17. Jan says:

William fingers are looking swollen like tampon.

  18. Here4Tea says:

It is amazing how an individual can look so smug and so constipated at the same time. Must be all that “elegance.”

  19. Cessily says:

Didn’t Prince Harry just wear a velvet tuxedo recently?

    • Nedsdag says:

Yes, for the wedding reception dinner where Meghan wore the white Stella McCartney dress.

      • ABritGuest says:

Harry wore a velvet tux for the GQ awards last week. Its a great look for the Wales’ brothers.

The sun giving out community/charity awards is a joke given how destructive that trash paper is but guess they need their corporate social responsibility points.

  20. Fanciful says:

Happy birthday, Prince Harry! Glad the workshys are doing something. Even if it’s a velvet suit in September. Totally thought it was the who cares awards.

  21. Over it says:

I wish I could find one nice thing to say about elegant Baldimort.

  22. Osty says:

William is so forgettable, he has done two engagements and few pple knew about it. And he is the ” relevant ” one

  23. Robot Dog says:

That birthday Tweet is so generic. I guess they’re not trying to sell the “they’re still totally close, you guys, we swear” line this week?

    • Courtney B says:

It’s a great photo of Harry at least. But I put out warmer birthday messages on casual friends’ Facebook walls.

  24. Margaret says:

I do believe harry wore a velvet tux for the GQ awards. Coincidence or envy?.

  25. Athena says:

William has worn the velvet jacket before. I don’t remember the occasion but recall the look.

  26. Lionel says:

The “I really don’t care, do U?” Awards.
    Fixed it!

    • L4frimaire says:

The title is really confusing. It sounds like “Who Cares”, and because it’s with that trash paper the Sun, it seems negative. They need a new name.

  27. Tessa says:

The smiles are not sincere looking, to me..

  28. RoyalBlue says:

Of course he attended the Sun’s event. He has to pay the devil.

  29. Margaret says:

William shouldn’t worry about the public being alarmed when he had Covid. The heirs are like sharks’ teeth. If one of them falls off their perch there is a long line of others ready to pop up and take their place, and a hoard of courtiers who know the ropes and will ensure the system doesn’t miss a beat.
