The Cambridges will join Charles & the Queen in Glasgow for a climate summit

G7 Summit

Queen Elizabeth spent more than two months in Balmoral, Scotland this year. She had a nice, long summer “off,” and she spent most of that time with Prince Andrew and Fergie. Prince Charles and Camilla were around for a time, and all of the other royals came by for visits, some for a few days (Will & Kate) and some for a few weeks. I wondered if the Queen’s fall schedule was going to be pretty subdued, but she’s had appearances and events for the past week, including the opening of the Scottish Parliament. She even got a handful of boos in Scotland. But she persists! The Queen will be joined by the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Glasgow at the start of November. It’s pretty interesting:

The Queen will be joined by members of the royal family for the COP26 summit in Glasgow next month, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. The monarch, 95, will travel to Scotland with the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, where they will attend events for the COP26, United Nations Climate Change Conference, between Monday 1 to Friday 5 November.

This will be the first joint engagement for the senior royals since they joined world leaders at the G7 Summit in Cornwall in June.

The Queen spent two months at her Scottish estate, Balmoral, over the summer and returned to Windsor Castle last weekend. On the opening day of the COP26 summit, she is due to attend a reception as part of her busy autumn schedule.

In her address at the opening ceremony of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament earlier this month, Her Majesty said: “Next month, I will be attending COP26 events in Glasgow. The eyes of the world will be on the United Kingdom – and Scotland in particular – as leaders come together to address the challenges of climate change. “There is a key role for the Scottish Parliament, as with all parliaments, to help create a better, healthier future for us all, and to engage with the people they represent, especially our young people.”

[From Hello]

First of all, this “all hands on deck” vibe shows you that the royals are very concerned about Scottish independence. I seriously doubt that there would be this kind of generational senior royal rollout in Glasgow if the palace’s own internal numbers on Scottish independence weren’t brutal. As for the conference… it sounds like it’s Prince Charles’ wheelhouse, and like he was going to attend no matter what. William is attending because his latest thing is Being Keen About the Environment. Keenshot, etc. But why are Camilla and Kate attending? I guess because William and Charles won’t get as much coverage if they don’t bring their wives. Plus, it feels like this is the “new Fab Four”: Charles, Camilla, Kate and Baldemort. I mean…

Oh, and it’s interesting that there’s a mention of the G7 Summit this past June. While Charles and Camilla were doing the heavy diplomatic lifting, William and Kate barely did anything and it seemed like they were only at the summit for a few hours. It’s not surprising – both Will and Kate are total lightweights. But then why make a big announcement about their participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference? Last thing: surely, William’s presence at the conference constitutes “preaching” by the right-wing tabloids? Surely they’ll call him out for flying to Scotland, and point out how often he flies by private plane and private helicopter?

    *GASP*

    Her mouth is closed! o_O

*in the thumbnail picture, I mean.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I needed this laugh today. The desperation to ‘reclaim the spotlight’ and insert themselves into world affairs despite the sheer hypocrisy of their environmental foot print. This is going to be one very expensive photo op.

  2. Anwahets says:

The G7 seemed like just a photo op where the world leaders humored the queen but no one really knew why they were there. This new one screams desperation especially after the queen got booed in Scotland. There is no reason all 5 have to go to this event. Charles and the queen could have gone alone but all 5?

Hopefully Scotland votes for their independence. After kate wasted Dr. Biden’s time, what will they do to top that embarrassing event?

    • Willow says:

My first thought, was, oh no, will this be another time waster, like it was with Dr. Biden? This is such an important issue! They really need to accomplish something and having ceremonial bobble heads around doesn’t help.

    • Layla says:

      She got booed in Scotland?

    • Snuffles says:

I don’t know how this works but can they call for a vote this year? This Brexit thing is fucking everyone up and Scotland was basically dragged into this mess against their will. The only one not experiencing shortages is Northern Ireland because they have their own protocol and remained in the EUs single market for goods.

Meanwhile, for everyone else in the UK, it’s just getting worse and worse.

      • Space Geek says:

Nicola Sturgeon says she won’t call another referendum until Covid is out of the way. I voted to become independent last time but I’m not entirely convinced on how I would vote in the next one. For decades we said Scotland would flourish because of North Sea oil and gas, but due to taking climate change seriously that’s no longer an option. The SNP (I’m a member) will need to give a realistic economic plan before I’d vote for independence again.

      • Snuffles says:

        @SpaceGeek

Thanks for your insight. How is Brexit treating you in your area?

      • Space Geek says:

@Snuffles I’ve not really noticed much of a difference yet, but I dare say it’s coming. We avoided the fuel shortage mostly because we’re not as daft as our southern neighbours and didn’t panic buy 😉 Although perhaps it’s because there’s a kernel of truth in our reputation for being miserly lol. I just feel for those in Northern Ireland (and The Republic) because their way of life must be quite uncertain at the moment. Lots of folk live in one part of Ireland but work in the other and I hope they can maintain that in the future with something sensible in place for the border. It’s not the Irish who get to fully decide, it’s between the UK parliament and The EU who are both trying to settle scores.

    • Kfg says:

I’m all for it! They’re going to do something stupid and really get the republic going. Keen and Baldy are terrible and Charles is insufferable. All three will either say or do something racist and ignorant and boom Scottish independence!

    • Carolind says:

I am Scottish and do do not want independence. Scotland will be much poorer and small minded. Frankly though it is not the business of anyone from another country.

      • Lady D says:

Your independence wouldn’t affect any other country?

      • ModeratelyWealthy says:

Sure, it will be your choice, but I do think this can be a topic for discussion, right? Or is it too intrusive, to even speak about?

      • Kfg says:

Sure you are. How would it be smaller and limited when they would be back with the EU?

      • Gubbinal says:

I have a friend who’s lived in Scotland for 40 years. She is now firmly in favor of Scotland becoming a member of the EU.

      • Space Geek says:

I’m leaning towards remaining in the UK too but voted for indy previously. I’m genuinely interested to know why you feel the same.

  3. Space Geek says:

What did we Glaswegians do to deserve the intellectual heavyweights, otherwise known as the Cambridges, coming to town? More of that soft diplomacy and rank hypocrisy *rolls eyes* I wonder if they’ll allow an impromptu Q&A with Kate.

    • Becks1 says:

Kate hasn’t had a chance to show off her new tartan scarves in a while. So she has to go lol.

      • Space Geek says:

Well in that case, it would be rude to uninvite her lol. Even in summer, we Scots always carry a tartan scarf with us.

      • DuchessL says:

The Queen is there, so watch how katie’s fashion will be tamed down not to take away from the Queen. Such a kiss a$$! lol I expect Camilla to go full on though (as much as she can)

    • Snuffles says:

Kate can’t handle impromptu anything to save her life. She freezes like a deer in headlights. I was just reading about when Rami Malek met Kate he asked her an impromptu question and it caught her completely off guard.

      • Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

That really stuck out, eh? That Malek asked her about how she was doing AS A MOM OF THREE and she had no answer? Bananas.

      • JT says:

The Malek incident was just…wow. Kate’s while schtick is that she is a hands on mom and she couldn’t even answer a question about what it’s like to be a mom. He might as well have asked her about rocket science. What the hell is wrong with her? It’s beyond shyness.

      • Merricat says:

He should have asked one of the nannies.

      • Lorelei says:

Does everyone who meets the royals get a little list of instructions from a courtier and a short script of “acceptable” things to say beforehand, for which the royals (well, Kate) have already memorized the answers to? This reminds me of when I was going to be an extra on a tv show and they told me what to wear, who I could make eye contact with and who I was forbidden from making eye contact with, which actors I could say hello to and which ones freaked out when someone talked to them when they were “working,” even if it was during a break., etc. We got a whole little class on how to act around the “VIPs” from some assistant before we were even allowed near the set.

Because isn’t anything that anyone says to the royals “impromptu?” It’s not as if Rami said anything outrageous!! I’m sure that all most people really do is nervously make small talk and say what an honor it is to meet them, or something. It’s not like there’s a TMZ reporter with a “Gotcha!” question hiding in the receiving line.

      • Snuffles says:

        @lorelei

I’m sure that’s exactly what happens. I’m sure Kate is prepared to answer specific banal questions and guests are given a brief of what parameters to stick to when talking to the royals.

      • Jan90067 says:

Wait wait wait!!!! I TOTALLY missed this!! What was that interaction????

      • MipMip says:

The Rami Malek thing was interesting. Kate is awful but I’ve mentioned here before that there is NO WAY William is not abusive to her so I have a splash of pity for her (see: his constant negging of her while cameras are on. I guarantee he is 100x worse when the cameras are off- I still want to know what he did/said to her at Philip’s funeral).

I think Kate was actually caught off guard by Rami because no one, especially in the RF, ever asks her how she’s doing. I wouldn’t be surprised if her mom doesn’t even ask her how she is, she probably just asks how Bulliam is doing.

It’s reminiscent of Meghan’s response in the SA documentary “thank you for asking, NO ONE ever asks”.

Kate is the worst but she is stuck, completely boxed in at all sides by the RF and her family and none of them give a toss about her.

      • Lorelei says:

@MipMip that’s an interesting point…if no one ever asks her anything even REMOTELY personal, something that’s just about her and how she’s doing, not to create a soundbite, but genuinely asking, she really might have been caught totally off guard. If that’s true, holy sh!t is that sad.

      • Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

        https://www.laineygossip.com/rami-malek-tells-jimmy-kimmel-princess-kate-was-taken-aback-when-he-asked-her-about-managing-three-children/69526

@jan90067 here is a link to the story and a clip from the talk show Rami Malek recounted the story on. It’s eyebrow raising, that’s for sure.

      • Lorelei says:

It isn’t as if that was some sort of “Gotcha!” question! It’s a perfectly normal thing to ask a mom of three young children. Maybe she’s on a lot of anti-anxiety meds or something, and it just makes her sort of…out of it? I don’t know. That is bizarre.

      • EllenOlenska says:

I’m wondering if she freaked out because when someone asked Meghan that question all heck broke loose…maybe she was terrified it was some sort of planted question designed to be the beginning of her end…

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@EllenOlenska, no. The BAFTA’s were in February of 2019 and Meghan’s question came in October 2019. She just doesn’t have the ability to answer a normal question without fear of something or not sounding like the perfect parent. Which is very problematic. Most people can come up with a number of normal, relatable responses without thinking or practicing an answer. By working hard *cough* at not putting a foot wrong, she puts a foot wrong.

  4. MTC says:

It will be great if she lives to see Scottish Independence!

    • Carolind says:

Unless you are Scottish this is really none of your business. She will still be Queen of Scotland although Sturgeon is anti-royalist. Sturgeon wants the job for herself.

      • MipMip says:

Non-Scots can’t have an opinion on Scottish independence? Are we really keeping the gates this high troll?

      • ModeratelyWealthy says:

        Again, the vote is yours.

Why does even a theoretical discussion bother you so much?

        Troll.

      • Lorelei says:

@Carolind why is it so upsetting to you if others discuss/speculate about it? I’m not criticizing you, but genuinely asking because it seems harmless, but appears to have hit a nerve, so I’m just curious.

Is it the fact that most of us here are hoping it will happen strictly out of spite and would be widely seen as a big “FU” to the Queen and the royal family, not considering the ramifications it might actually have on Scottish people? Because I could understand that.

But if that’s the case, imo you should try to explain to people here what the negative consequences might be, because I (only speaking for myself) totally view it solely as a slap in the face to the Queen/BRF and am in favor of it for that reason alone (yes, it’s petty!), but I’m an American who wouldn’t be directly affected, and have given no thought about how citizens would be. And if it’s something that really might happen, I’d definitely like to know some of the effects it could have.

      • NightOwl says:

I would really love to understand “why” from the point of view of someone who is actually living in the situation. Could you explain or perhaps point us to some reputable sources that accurately reflect your viewpoint?

      • Gmadeb says:

Only your business, of course. But, my 17th century ancestors were kicked out of Scotland by the English and I would love to see those Anglo Saxons get a slap in the face.

      • Space Geek says:

@Carolind, that’s pretty damn rude!! I’m also Scottish but I’m pretty engaged with global politics. I’ve commented on articles here about Trump before, should I have minded my own business because I’m not American? The commenters here are very eager to understand what’s happening all around the world and hold opinions on things. If you do not like it, go to a Scottish only based forum post haste, because you are giving us a showing up! You’re a complete ‘rid neck’!!!!!

      • Space Geek says:

@Mipmip and everyone else commenting on this thread: I can only assume this is a troll. As a Scot who frequents this US based website daily, I’d ask you to take absolutely no notice of Carolind. For crying out loud we all come here because we have opinions and like to comment and discuss.

Why the heck do I feel like I’m apologising for a relative’s drunken behaviour at a wedding??? 🤔🤣

      • notasugarhere says:

She is a troll of sorts, Space Geek. She shows up frequently to attack anyone who posts critical things about Kate or positive things about Meghan.

      • Jaded says:

Oh but many of us are Carolind, my ancestry is Scottish so just because I don’t live there I can’t weigh in? Please stop trolling.

  5. Noki says:

I read a thread were some people were calling out the double standards in reporting the Sussexes ans Cambridges private transport usage. The Keen stans were adamant that it cant be compared. The Keens are the future King and Queen and they need security and discretion. They wouldnt let up !

    • Becks1 says:

I’ve also read its defended because “William doesn’t lecture on climate change” (lol) and “theyre working, its different.”

So you don’t think William and Kate ever take private jets on vacation? The Duke of Westminster would like a word.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

William just pushed his BBC TV show on us against our will. I’m yet to meet one person who bothered to watch it.

      • Noki says:

We must have been reading the same thread those were the exact responses. As long as they are working and not preaching to people while doing the opposite. Smh

      • Eurydice says:

Huh, isn’t Earthshot one giant lecture on climate change?

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

The answer most keenbridges stans give to anyone questioning their faves bone idleness and lack of real impact ranges from regal, classy, beautiful to they are going to be king and queen. Never in their wildest dreams did they imagine a world where organisations and brands would prefer the irrelevant ones over them.

      • JT says:

They can use a helicopter because they’re working, except when they disappear for months on end. The Keens were using the chopper in a pandemic despite no work happening between them. And sure, let’s pretend that H&M are flying for funsies and not for business.

      • Lorelei says:

@ElizabethRegina, they always reply with, “Regal! Classy! Elegant! Our future K&Q! Now THAT’S how it’s done!” (have to get a swipe at Meghan in there somewhere) because that’s really all they have to work with if they’re defending the Cambridges. It’s the same lines over and over again because those are the only characteristics even their fans can come up with.

And it’s such a passive-aggressive little dig at the Sussexes to say William and Kate “needed” to fly because they’re “working” — Harry and Meghan were “working” too, but they don’t want to admit that. The royalists don’t want to admit to themselves that people are CHOOSING to work with the Sussexes.

  6. notasugarhere says:

But will they all fly up there in separate private jets?

    • Amy Bee says:

      Yes they will.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Of course they will fly up in separate private jets!

    • Becks1 says:

Of course they will and of course it won’t get any criticism, even though I’m sure there are plenty of trains that go to Glasgow.

After the G7, the Queen and Charles both departed by train, while the Cambridges left by helicopter. Not a peep.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Becks: Yeah but they took the Royal Train which is said to be too expensive to run and wastes energy. A regular scheduled train would have been better.

      • Becks1 says:

True, a regular train would have been so much better. But optics wise, the train beats the private helicopter, and someone on the Queen’s staff and Charles’ staff realized that. (does the queen use the helicopter anymore, or is all trains planes and automobiles?)

    • Chrissy says:

Of course they will. They’ll fly into Edinburgh to get changed at Holyrood, then ‘copter to Glasgow, to be picked up by a fleet of armoured, gas-guzzling Range Rovers and then do it all in reverse on the way back to London. All in one day and all on the taxpayers’ dime.

  7. Layla says:

Breaking: Hypocrites pretend to care about climate change in a country they don’t give a damn about 🙄

Honestly if I was in Scotland, I’d be convincing people to throw stones at all of these losers.

What do we think it’ll be this time? Meghan or Diana (cosplay)? Probably Meghan. (I see another monochrome pantsuit.)

Edit: Upon further research, I suspect a Queen Letizia cosplay

  8. JT says:

Isn’t the queen except from any climate change laws in Scotland anyway? None of the environmental laws even apply to her, or the rest royals for that matter, so attending this at is just stupid on everybody’s part.

    • Pao says:

When it was announced that she would attend this people were not ammused and were quick to point out that she lobbied *scottish* parlement, if im not mistaken, to be exempted from climate change laws.

And personally i think william and kate being added is a last minute decision, because another couple was seen working with the UN, WHO and was seen meeting politicians.

      • JT says:

I read the same as well, that Scotland was going greener and once again, the queen meddled in politics so she wouldn’t be held accountable. She has no business at this conference. And I absolutely believe the Keens want to show up because H&M were rubbing shoulders with UN and government leaders. I’m sure the BM will go on about the Keens are global statesman, while H&M are too Hollywood or some bullsh*t.

      • Sunday says:

Exactly, they were added at the last minute so they can cosplay as global leaders to compete with Harry and Meghan’s UN appearance and NY trip, and also because Harry’s Travalyst recently announced that Google partnership and the addition of emissions info for all flights. W&K are so predictable.

      • RoyalBlue says:

I came to say this 100%. This is in response to the Sussexes audience with the UN. The Cambridges are always trying to copy the Sussexes. They live rent free in their heads.

    • Lorelei says:

@JT that’s the first thing I thought of, too — didn’t we just learn recently that Balmoral is the only place in Scotland exempt from the toughest environmental standards, that the Queen actively lobbied for it? How can these people then show up at a climate summit and expect to be taken seriously?!

This family…the least amount of self-awareness I’ve ever seen.

      • JT says:

I wish people would stop humoring them by allowing them to show up to things like this. I guess maybe the queen because she’s head of state and possibly Charles. They serve no purpose, they have nothing to add to the conversation, and they don’t even bring a bunch of attention with them. At least H&M will bring global coverage. The only thing the Maga7 can guarantee is front page of all the rags…maybe.

      • notasugarhere says:

Or the greatest sense of entitlement.

  9. Willow says:

Are they actually going to get anything done this time? Or is it going to be another ‘blah, blah, blah’, ‘photo, photo, photo, photo’ event? Until royal castles start flooding and they run out of fuel for private jets to private islands, I predict…NO!

  10. Amy Bee says:

The Tory Government likes to roll out the Royal Family because they believe foreign dignitaries like to meet the Queen. That was all the rota and royalists were talking about when the Windsors visited the G7 Summit. Charles and William are attending to bolster their environmentalist bona fides but I don’t think it’s necessary for Camilla and Kate to be there. I think the senior royals attending this international event is in direct response to Harry and Meghan’s visit to NY. It was initially reported that the Queen was attending but now most of the “Magnificent 7” attending tells me that they were indeed watching what was going in NY and were rattled by Harry and Meghan’s reception.

    • Snuffles says:

I hope they are met with protests and people screaming for Scottish independence.

    • Emily says:

Yeah, IMO Harry and Meghan’s New York trip made them look like lightweights so this is them attempting to prove that they can be Serious and Important too.

    • Becks1 says:

I think they want photo ops of the royals meeting UN leaders bc Harry and Meghan did.

Damn, if one weekend in NYC rattled them this much – what are they going to do when H&M are out there working every day??

      • Pao says:

I really hope that visibility era of meghan and harry starts soon.

      • JT says:

They are just so f*cking embarrassing at this point and nobody has the self awareness to tone it down a bit. If the royals are expecting breathless coverage by the international press, than they should be ready to be disappointed. The only thing they should expect is Kate getting coverage for whatever Diana cosplay she’ll be doing next and the DM certainly will not have a live feed like the did with H&M.

      • Harper says:

Kate is stockpiling her black/navy turtlenecks, monochromatic cashmere sweater outfits, and long fall coats for this outing. I have visions of her pounding her fists on the table ala Violet Beauregarde demanding her turn on the political world stage.

  11. Emily says:

What ever happened to the Magnificent Seven? The Wessexes and Anne seem to have been binned.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Maybe the Wessexes and Anne have some sense and see that there is a good chance the Royal attendance at this event will be a non-event and maybe even backfire????? SMH and LOL!

  12. Chaine says:

Will and Kate are Britain’s Javanka at this point

  13. LaraW” says:

Guys! The Cambridges need their moment in the tackling Important Issues at the UN also!!!

Will William carry a folder embossed with “George’s Father” on the cover? Will Kate carry a Dior bag? WILL SHE WEAR A COAT APPROPRIATE FOR THE WEATHER?!?!?!? Will she visit a school with a bag of pasta and read a story to the children?

Isn’t Harry supposed to visit NYC again around this time for an event?

    • rawiya says:

Harry visits around November 11, so the reporters will have a week to get their “William is better at meeting with world leaders” articles drafted.

    • Nyro says:

Kate will have to skin and wear a silver disco ball this time in order to get any kind of attention.

    • Scorpion says:

      @LaraW 😂😂😂😂

Get out of my head 🤭😁

      • JT says:

I hope Meg shows up with Harry for the gala wearing something amazing, just for sh*ts and giggles, wearing real old school glamour and not some Lumiere Beauty and the Beast foolishness.

  14. rawiya says:

This isn’t going to give what they think it’s going to give.

    • Chrissy says:

Yes, who are they trying to fool? How many thousands will be spend on new outfits and jewelry for this event? I hope there are lots of lovely protestors and the climate hypocrisy and general hubris of the BRF is highlighted in the global press.

  15. Nyro says:

I hate to say this but as long as the Old Woman is still around, people will continue to bite their tongues and tolerate her and her useless family at important events like this. With the exception of Charles, none of them has the bonafides to sit in those rooms and have fruitful conversations with world leaders. They were useless at the G8 in London and they’ll be useless in Glasgow. The queen showed up and the other leaders were looking at her like she was E.T. She has nothing to contribute but the UK insists on having Queen Victoria’s great-great granddaughter as their Head of State in 2021, so everybody just has to play long like her being there matters. And of course Egg Head and Doormat were non-factors. They’re there simply for a photo op. I hope they all get booed and pied.

    • Sid says:

Reading you refer to her Queen Victoria’s great-great granddaughter really underscores how old QEII is and how long she has been around. Not that there is anything wrong with being old at all. It’s just that in this specific case it’s a reminder of one of the reasons why the BRF still is the way it is even in this modern era.

  16. Merricat says:

They still haven’t quite grasped the fact that Harry and Meghan come to these events prepared with ideas and plans. They aren’t showing up to smile at the camera, to make an appearance for the sake of it.
It always comes down to the Cambridges’ absolute lack of substance, neither interest nor genuine feeling for the matter at hand. It’s like asking the wind to hold a hammer.

    • RoyalBlue says:

Plus the only royal who is necessary and has a legal role, is the Queen. The rest of them are just hanger-ons coming along for the free trip and dinners.

  17. Red Weather Tiger says:

Remember when the whole tacky trump family showed up at Buckingham Palace for a state dinner where they didn’t belong, and everyone laughed at their Beverley Hillbillies vibe?

This is like that, but instead of laughing at their stupid clothes and pompous attitudes, we’ll … oh, wait.

  18. Rapunzel says:

So again Will and Kate doing an event with C&C. Have W&K done an event together just the two of them since returning from their months off? I think they did maybe one joint event together, just them.

I know C&C probably had this event first and the Cambs latched on to copy H&M, but I’m keeping an eye on how many joint events they do without the buffer of the kids or other royals. I’m sorta thinking Will may have had a chat with dad or GanGan, and said, “if you want me to stay with Kate, then I need a buffer when we make public appearances together.”

    • notasugarhere says:

Given William’s attitude at the premiere, with ignoring her on the red carpet and standing far away from her inside? Their frost expressions in the car show public buffers aren’t working.

      • Rapunzel says:

Nota- well they always look kinda frosty in the car together, don’t they? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pic of them in the car (at least not in the backseat on the way to an event) where they look like a happy married couple off to a fun time together. Not in pics of just the two of them.

But you are right that buffers don’t seem to be working. I hope I didn’t sound like I was saying they did. And honestly even with the buffers, you don’t see them acting really happy with them either. It’s not like C&C and W&K looked like they were super chummy in the pics I saw (though admittedly I didn’t do any serious looking). It makes me wonder why they bother with the buffers.

      • Tessa says:

C and C and W and K play happy families but IMO it’s a sham. I don’t think Charles liked it much when the tabs made a fuss over Kate in the gold Dress (stealing the show lol. He appears to “need” William and Kate now, and has to tolerate the PR buildup for the Cambridges.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate didn’t steal the show, although she and mummy are desperate to keep peddling that idea. And once they were inside, William stood/sat at least one person distance away from her.

Charles only tolerates situations while he waiting to find the weak spot. He already knows William wants to dump Kate, and will be able to do that much more easily with Charles’s help. All Charles has to do is wait until William is incandescent with rage over the Carole-led Kate PR buildup. We’ve already seen the results, with Kate being benched from the Diana statue unveiling after her disgusting behavior at Philip’s funeral.

    • JT says:

I think going forward, the Keens will start having buffers between them and doing more events with the other royals. I also think TOB is going to start doing more solo events too. Willy is just fed up with Kate and he’s not even trying to hide it. I hope Kate gets enough self respect for herself and gives him what he gives to her right back. There is no way I’d be smiling, making goo goo eyes at that man while he’s rolling his eyes at me. It’s just sad.

  19. Jay says:

This has the feel of the Cambridges tagging along with the adults, wanting to be included in the coverage. I’ll be very surprised if Mr. Earthshot has anything to say that’s worth the price of helicopter fuel, and there’s a very good chance that he makes things worse by showing what lightweights the Cambridges are, or making more awful “jokes”.

Considering the article from yesterday about the Keens as the “soon to be” Prince and Princess of Wales, I wonder if this will be an awkward outing 😬.

  20. TabithaD says:

I just hope this doesn’t mean another “Roundtable” from Kate, where she sticks on that weird fixed open-mouth smile and flaps her hands about like a malfunctioning robot. I couldn’t bear the embarrassment.

  21. Lizzie says:

The palace is triggered, when Harry and Meghan make a splash then Will and Kate have to be pushed out front as much as possible. Nevermind Harry and Meghan’s accomplishments all the lamebridghes need to do is get their faces in front of the cameras.

  22. Eurydice says:

Well, people have been insisting that W&K do some work, so here it is. This reminds me of when the Queen brought William with her for Holyrood week back in June. “Ok, you screwed up the Tartan Tour last month, this is how it’s done.”

  23. one of the marys says:

So this is not too political for the royal family? For the future future king and queen? Huh

  24. Jaded says:

This is only going to tarnish the already feeble reputation the Cambridges are inevitably going to showcase. Willnot will look petulant, not pay one iota of attention to Keen other than to clench his jaw and occasionally glare at her, Keen will wear tartan, they’ll both mumble something stupid and inappropriate, and once again show their utter uselessness at events like this. Camilla will be looking for the nearest bottle of wine and Charles will be the only one who is prepared and can actually speak to the climate issue.

    • Tessa says:

William will get a speech prepared to show he is “concerned”. And unfortunately his fans will talk about how a Big Success he is.

  25. Tessa says:

I think most of the comments about Kate, regarding this trip, in the tabs and magazines will be about her wardrobe. Comparable to the Big Fuss made over the gold gown.

  26. Margaret says:

I see nothing royal or regal about that group. They look past their expiration date. I hope they are not going to “preach to their fans”, while using private jets, and helicopters, and gas guzzling suvs. But we shall see.

  27. Rea says:

They have to show up. K& W have done little work this year. Plus K was called a goddess by Hello Magazine & others. So will aim for more positive press even if it’s nothing substantial but the way she dressed. I would love if she got press for work or accomplishments but that ain’t happening any time soon.

    • Merricat says:

The Cambridges smell of doom and desperation. Barbados leaving the commonwealth is a signal of what’s to come.

      • notasugarhere says:

They’re remaining part of The Commonwealth, ie the trade and economic union. They are becoming a Republic and dumping QEII as their head of state. The majority of countries in TC do not have the Windsors prancing around. Now it will be around 15 who do tolerate the Windsors, 39 who do not.

      • Lady Digby says:

A full page article in the Independent linked the Barbados decision to Windrush scandal and BLM etc., Same article talks about Australians renewed calls for independence “particularly after the Sussex revelatory interview with Oprah Winfrey”.
It concludes as this once powerful nation continues to lose its grip on the world, either through Brexit, further exposure of the monarchy, or the government, s disastrous leadership, its desperation is becoming more obvious.”
Fan fiction can’t save the monarchy in these turbulent times. Once the Queen dies serious questions about revelance are going to happen at home and abroad.

  28. Elle says:

It’s so stupid that all 5 of them are going. It’s not a F ing tea party 👎🏿

    • notasugarhere says:

But it is a high-profile PR parade, and all of them want the good PR of going. Given Liz’s private estate being excluded from environmental standards? I hope there are huge protests around all five of them and any appearances they make. Starting with their mode of travel to Scotland.
