Prince Charles’ Aston Martin runs on cheese, whey and surplus white wine?!

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visit Devon

Over the weekend, the Mail on Sunday had a complicated story about all of the drama going around Prince Charles’ charitable foundation, the same foundation which has been a key player in several sordid cash-for-access and cash-for-honours scandals, many of which were outed in the British press in recent months. The MoS article is basically a confirmation that Charles’ long-time aide Michael Fawcett will be falling on his sword thoroughly for his boss. Charles and his foundation are going to play dumb and act like Fawcett was organizing all of these access & honours schemes without anyone’s knowledge. If you believe that, well, I will sell you London Bridge for a great price.

Ahead of the November climate conference in Glasgow, Prince Charles has given an exclusive interview to the BBC, all about the environment and climate change. The BBC understands the limited access they’re receiving, so there are no questions about Fawcett, or Prince Andrew, or the Sussexes or royal racism. Instead, Charles talked to the BBC about his cheese car. *adjusts glasses* I mean, his car which runs on cheese for fuel. Some quotes from Charles’ interview:

On climate activists like XR, Insulate Britain and Greta Thunberg: ‘All these young people feel nothing is ever happening so of course they’re going to get frustrated. I totally understand because nobody would listen and they see their future being totally destroyed. The point is, people should really notice how despairing so many young are.

On his cheese and wine powered Aston Martin: ‘That runs now on waste products. It runs on, can you believe this, surplus English white wine and whey from the cheese process.’

On his diet: ‘I haven’t eaten meat and fish on two days a week and I don’t eat dairy products on one day a week. If more did that, you would reduce a lot of the pressure.’

On world leaders: ‘It’s just talk. The problem is trying to get action on the ground which I’ve been trying to do for the last 40 years.’

On the UK government doing enough to tackle climate change: ‘I couldn’t possibly comment.’

On being called an idiot: ‘If you’re the idiot who suggests all this, you’re accused of being an idiot. I was accused of being anti-science. It wasn’t much fun, as you can imagine, and then because I suggested there were better ways of doing things, I was accused of interfering and meddling. Having been ridiculed for so long, they suddenly all want me to help convene them. Because I haven’t got an axe to grind I’m only keen to get the damn thing sorted.’

[From The Daily Mail]

First, I would honestly like to know more about his cheese car! I know that’s not cool to admit that, but seriously, his Aston Martin runs on whey?? As for the rest of it… it’s a small confirmation to me that Charles was the one who was scheduled to appear at the Glasgow climate conference and his son and daughter-in-law are simply tagging along. I also think Charles is miffed because William is copykeening an issue Charles has worked on for most of his adult life.

Also: I kind of like that he’s promoting-by-example some simple changes people can make, like going vegetarian two days a week, or avoiding dairy for a day or two every week.

He is a liar, there is no way that there is surplus wine in the palace when Camilla is about, lies I say!

  2. Maria says:

I know his car *runs* on cheese but at the cheese car comment – if I was wealthy and could have an Aston Martin made of cheese, I would.
Port Salut for the body, bleu for the engine, brie for the seats, and so forth.

  3. Noki says:

That header photo is awful. He looks like he is almost agemates with his Mother.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

      Yup, exactly right.

    • Noo says:

As someone who has rosacea, I have been struck these past few years on how bad his rosacea is, and that it seems to be completely untreated. Is being ruddy-faced a mark of honour for English aristocracy? I would think with how vain and image-conscious the BRF is he would do something about that.

  4. Maggie says:

Is Soylent green not as environmentally friendly as whey? Or will TOB take credit for that decision?

  5. LaraW” says:

I don’t understand how this works. Is he saying his Aston Martin is being pulled by team of pigs?

Also I didn’t realize the UK had white wine vineyards.

    • Eurydice says:

I think there are a couple hundred wineries in the UK. Lol at the pig-drawn Aston Martin, but Charles is just talking about biofuel. Lots of organizations are working on making fuel from biowaste, especially from sources that aren’t corn and sugar.

This isn’t about fuel, but I remember some years ago a teenaged girl from Turkey won a Scientific American award for developing a way to make bioplastic from banana peels.

  6. Becks1 says:

So this is what it sounds like when someone actually HAS been working on a cause for decades – he knows the issues, he has some suggestions on what people can do, etc. Of course he is ignoring his own carbon footprint but hey, royals gonna royal.

The “no comment” about the British government is interesting though.

    • L4frimaire says:

Don’t forget the Queen is exempt from climate regulations on her property. The crown actively lobbied for that exemption so Charles can talk about this all he wants but if they decided to drill for oil or cut down every last tree, they could.

      • Becks1 says:

Oh of course. He is kind of a…..I don’t know, a mixed bag, because there are some areas where he (and the royals) totally miss the mark but other areas where he’s a lot better – solar panels on his houses, organic farming, but then he loves his private jets and I’m sure he loves the helicopter and the queen certainly is going out of her way to avoid environmental regulations.

Following Scottish regulations for balmoral would be a huge step, just in terms of optics.

  7. Rose says:

I’m sure the engineers at Aston Martin are curious about this as well.

    • Eurydice says:

Aston Martin engineers are the ones who retrofitted the car to run on biofuel back in 2008. I guess this particular car is too old to be converted to electric.

    • Amy Bee says:

It’s likely he got Aston Martin to retrofit his car. Just like Philip got Land Rover to design and build his hearst.

    • Malificent says:

I’m pretty sure Camilla was the prototype. She runs on whey and surplus white wine.

  8. GraceB says:

I know Charles gets a lot of flack and lots of it is deserve, but when it comes to climate change and the environment, he really was one of the first people with any kind of platform, to start talking about it and people really did come for him. Unfortunately, all of the negative things Charles gets up to, makes people put a negative spin on the good. I guess that’s true of most royals and celebs alike.

I’m pretty sure his Aston Martin has run on cheese and wine waste products for a long time. This isn’t a new thing, and he’s converted his other cars to electric too, which is then sourced sustainably.

I like that he mentioned changes to our diet making an impact. Lots of people still have this feeling that it’s not a proper meal if it doesn’t include meat or fish, and lots of people don’t know what to do without dairy, which is a terrible industry.

I was a self confessed cheese addict until a couple of years ago. I couldn’t imagine not having dairy on a daily basis, but I haven’t eaten cheese in almost a year and have almost no dairy at all.

    • Emma says:

Most of what he is saying is good. The no comment on government is a huge gap though. Big change needs governments behind it.

    • MarqueeMoon says:

But seriously, go vegetarian for a couple of meals? Wtf.. Try living small, living in castles, with a high staff, fleets of vehicles, multitude of houses that all need heating, lighting, how these people can lecture others on reducing their footprint is beyond a joke!
If he were serious about it, start living it yourself Charles.. A cheese car and a couple of vegetarian meals a week isn’t reducing your footprint to in the vicinity of any regular person whether that person is apetrolhead who had never heard of Maria Kondo or not!

  9. MangoAngelesque says:

Couldn’t he just tell Willie and Buttons “No, you cannot attend this with me”? Is he obligated to let them slouch along, grumble, mumble, and splay fingers everywhere to try and steal his thunder?

    • Kfg says:

He can’t because they’re in competition with Harry. He knows tob and keen suck, but they are the future of the monarchy. They have to get their weight up. I have a feeling this is going to be like Ivanka at the g6. Like really bad.

    • ThatsNotOkay says:

The Other Brother and CopyKate are the Jared and Ivanka of Clout Chasing Dolittles.

    • Amy Bee says:

Better to have William on his side than against him. That’s why he sanctioned the smear campaign against Harry and Meghan.

  10. MipMip says:

I don’t like Charles, he’s a spoiled narcissist BUT he is throwing his support behind young climate activists here which is great, and his “no comment” about the government’s policy on the environment is very interesting.

ETA I would also like to hear more about his cheese car.

  11. AmelieOriginal says:

I bet you Charles is annoyed at William for being such a copycat environmentalist and all this nonsense with the Earthshot prize thing (terrible name for a prize). Also I just realized the first Earthshot Prize ceremony is just a few days away! It’s a pretty star studded line up, I was surprised at all the big names involved.

Back to Charles: I’m not a huge fan of his but I’ve always admired his long-standing passion for being green and for caring about the environment. He was harping about it long before Greta Thunberg or Al Gore came along and before climate change and sustainability became buzzwords even though he was ridiculed for it. I want to know more about this cheese and wine running car of his.

    • Becks1 says:

I bet you Charles is TICKED not because William is “working” on environmental issues but because he is acting like he’s the first person to ever want to stop climate change. Remember his quote from his nature documentary about how “someone has to be the first to stick their head above the parapet” or something and it was like…..yes, and its Charles, and he’s your father, lol.

    • SomeChick says:

      Greta is a teenager.

  12. olliesmom says:

Just think about how many of the peasants that could feed!

  13. olliesmom says:

But just think about how many of the peasants that could feed!

If I had a car that ran on cheese I would never get anywhere because I would eat all of the cheese!

  14. SarahCS says:

For all his flaws and terrible actions I will give him credit where it’s due for all the years he has spent actually engaged with environmental issues, I’m even willing to separate his views and work in this field from his own carbon footprint (cheesy wine car aside). It really emphasises how the other three are tagging along to his show at COP26.

I love the simple suggestions like eating less animal protein, we need more people to take small steps AND we need the big high level changes like investment in green infrastructure, power generation, etc. It’s like voting, every voice and every action count. As people eat less meat we need government and industry support to ensure that the people who will no longer be required to work in those sectors have alternative opportunities for employment. It all works together.

  15. TabithaD says:

Charles could clearly hold his own in a discussion about environmental issues. It’s something he’s been quite vocal about for many years.
I very much doubt that William could.

  16. Amy Bee says:

That his car runs on whey and wine, doesn’t fill me with admiration. It just shows he lives a very privileged lifestyle and is unaffected by the gas crisis in the UK. If he can’t comment on his own Government’s Climate policy, he’s in no position to talk about any other country’s policies. Yesterday, the press was touting that he was to make a speech at some conference in China, saying he was going to confront China on its climate record. Today, it’s being reported as he’s using a charm offensive against China. GTFOH

    • MarcelMarcel says:

      I totally agree.
He’s a part of an institution that upholds the current status quo. Prince Charles will tote rhetoric about saving the environment as long as it doesn’t inconvenience him.
I realise it’s a different topic but Prince Charles vetted laws that stopped his tenants from buying their homes.
I just think he’s too lost in his own privilege to make meaningful contributions to discussions about important topics like climate change.
His PR team deserves a raise tho because he gets a lot of positive press these days.

      • Misskitten says:

I heard that too, about Charles preventing people in Cornwall from buying their own homes. And i agree 1000% that he’s too lost in his privelage (which, btw, is an EXCELLENT way of putting it! Kudos!) to make meaningful contributions to the issues that affect the masses. I guess im in the minority but ive always thought Charles was a fraud.

      • MarcelMarcel says:

Aww thanks miss kitten! You probably won’t see the comment but I totally agree that he’s a fraud. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one.

    • L4frimaire says:

The guy knows his stuff but his government does not care and really hasn’t for decades, especially when the press he panders to dismisses all this as “woke” and hypocritical to justify their climate change skepticism and outright denial. They have empty shelves in supermarkets and fuel shortages but wine and cheese can get him from point A to point B. Ok. How is that going to be scaled up? Using food products for fuel instead of food is a bit iffy.

  17. Myjobistoprincess says:

Charles is a nerd with absolutely not an sparkle of star power on him, born with the destiny to be king with absolutely no apparent talent or charisma for it. But, I do like is that his love for gardening and his love for the environment is a true passion. he has spoken about it for years and he speaks about it without effort. doesnt change that he’s lying about the pay for royal access and benefits scheme.

  18. Shim says:

Willie Nelson has run his bus on biodiesel for years now.

  19. jferber says:

Rich white man living on the people’s taxes owns Astin Martins. Disgusting welfare case.

  20. CooCooCatchoo says:

Prince No Personality cares more about his environmental persona than he does about the mental and physical well-being of his youngest son, that son’s wife, and their very, very young children. Disgusting, but (sadly) not surprising. Diana had his number, all right.

  21. AmB says:

Maybe it’s a math thing, but I’m having trouble converting cheese car miles to private helicopter miles. Do they balance out somehow?

  22. Antonym says:

All I can think about is the episode of the Windsors where the Charles character thinks he has a brilliant idea—running cars on wine instead of fuel. Camilla thinks he’s a dolt. And he ends up trying to explain his idea to a blind gas station owner.

    Oh, that show 😂
