Tom Cruise looked surprisingly puffy at a weekend baseball game

2021 has been the year of Tom Cruise Enjoying Sports. I’ve never really considered Tom to be the kind of man who would enjoy watching a football game or go out of his way to watch a tennis match, but he has become that man this year. I think it started with this year’s Wimbledon – Tom came out for the Wimbledon Championship weekend, attending the women’s and men’s singles finals on back-to-back days in July. A few hours after the men’s singles final, Tom traveled the short distance to Wembley to watch the Euro Final (which Italy won). Also in July, Tom came out for the F1 Grand Prix.

Nowadays, Tom is back in California, and he decided to go out to the Dodgers-Giants baseball game over the weekend. He was with his son Connor. No one even knows if he’s more of a Dodgers fan or Giants fan. The photos and videos of Cruise went viral because his face seems kind of puffy, like filler-puffy. Could be – my feeling is that Tom has been getting top-of-the-line work from the best plastic surgeons in Brazil for years now. He was getting subtle work even back in the Katie Holmes years. It’s more than possible that his options are slightly more limited these days what with persistent travel restrictions and the like. Maybe he just decided to get quickly filler’d in LA and it didn’t work out so well. Anyway, it’s not really snarking on someone’s face if you’re just like “wow, he looked so different back in July.” It’s possible that Tom just recently gained some pandemic pounds, but… who knows. My first thought was “fillers” but maybe I’m wrong.

Here’s TMZ’s grainy video of Tom – you can see him standing up to talk to Danny Glover at one point.

He looks like he had a face transplant. Him and Connor (even though he is adopted it was quite amazing how they looked alike) dont even resemble each other anymore.

  2. jbyrdku says:

Anyone else remember the days when Tom Cruise was just an A list movie star, and not a giant weirdo?

    • olliesmom says:

Ah, such a simpler time. Especially the 80’s/early 90’s Tom Cruise.

      • Spice cake38 says:

Yes I remember Tom as my junior high crush and didn’t have to hear about Scientology and all of Tom’s weird behavior.
I recall an interview on Oprah (NOT the couch jumping one)where he was so endearing and engaging with both Oprah and the audience.
He was a decent actor and very handsome.
Now he just makes me roll my eyes so hard.

    • February-Pisces says:

As soon as he got into Scientology it’s like he became asexual. He used to be so sexy and charismatic, now it’s like there’s nothing there. I can’t imagine him with women or men.

    • Meija says:

      This 🤣🤣🤣

  3. Emily says:

    Facelift swelling? Probably fillers.

    • GraceB says:

Honestly my first thought was that he looks like he has a drink problem, but given that he only just now looks like this, I’d go with fillers or some sort of work he’s had done.

    • Mac says:

I get fillers every few months and they have never made my face look puffy. Whatever he had done goes beyond simple injections.

      • Twin falls says:

I know someone who gets filler, Botox, did micro needling and the end result is this exact full all over no lines look. Not a look I’d go for but she seems happy with it.

    • FeatherDuk says:

I was thinking face lift swelling plus fat grafting. Looks like marc jacob’s face a week after his facelift and fatgrafting.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Or prednisone for some medical condition like CLL or an autoimmune disease. He is in the right age group for CLL.

    • Carol says:

I always thought he was fighting the pudge. If it weren’t for getting got for movies, I think he would be a lot pudgier

  4. Jillian says:

Tom is a freak, but he looks fine. Older, but who doesn’t?

  5. Lizzie says:

    Might be due to meds.

    • Caitlin Bruce says:

      He’s a Scientologist he doesn’t do “meds”

      • Noki says:

I thought it was psychiatry they hated ,they also dont use pharmaceutical meds ?

      • Seaflower says:

        Only psychiatric.psychological meds

      • Robyn says:

Nah, that’s only for the rank and file, not those at the top. Kind of like how everyone at Fox News and the Republican caucus is vaxxed but screams about “medical tyranny” all day.

    • Kcat says:

Yeah, I don’t think he would be this bad with fillers. Maybe steroids for pain/inflammation after all his insistence on doing his own stunts?

      • Kristen820 says:

That’s what I thought, too. Prednisone or the like. Hard to tell when you can’t see his body, though. If It’s just his face that’s puffy, I’d say steroids. He has the classic “moon face”.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

My thought too. Inflammation control. So, depends on the rest of him.

      • nettie says:

Yes steroid drugs can give you a puffy face. My sister has asthma and for years was on prednisone which gave her a moon face.

      • Missy says:

Same as the rest of you, just from the thumbnail I thought maybe he was on Prednisone for an injury or something

      • Stan says:

As an OT VIII in Scientology, he would not need to rely on meds. He should be able to heal himself. If he can’t heal himself, he would need to know what bad thing he has brought about that has not allowed him to heal hinself. He would need to go through auditing to find out if he has a potential trouble source or a suppressive person in his life who may be stopping his healing process.

Yes, he is technically allowed to seek medical help as a Scientologist, but doing so is a sign of weakness in Scientology.

(Also, he could go for a touch assist in which a Scientologist touches a person’s injured area and they heal because of the energy trsnsmitted.)

    • Seaflower says:

I was thinking the same, maybe steroids for current injuries or old injuries. Steroids make you puffy. Richard Dean Anderson had this issue during his later Stargate days.

      • Surly Gale says:

Back in the day when he was filming MacGyver we looked after the plants in his rented loft. We had keys and the security code, but were instructed to yodel yooo-hooo before entering, giving anyone home enough time to scuttle into the bedroom, where there were no plants (fresh flowers only). Once he was leaving as I was entering. No eye contact, but he did say good morning as he brushed past. The housekeeper had not gone through yet…he’d had a very good evening by the look of things. Even then though, he was moving stiffly, so I’m not surprised he ended up in pain on Stargate. I am embarrassed to admit I have the entire MacGyver collection on DVD. I was SUCH a fan!!

    • Case says:

This looks like a steroid side effect to me too, not plastic surgery or anything like that. The steroid type of puffiness is distinct.

      • Aeval says:

As someone who currently has “moon face” from steroid treatments, I completely agree.

      • molly says:

This was my thought. Tom’s face work has never been less than top shelf. This is what Groupon-level fillers get you. He would never.

      • Spice cake38 says:

I get moon face often, steroids for Crohns flares.
Idk if he takes any medication or not as it’s debatable bc of his crazy Scientology, but this looks like myself and every other person I’ve seen with prednisone side effect of moon face.

      • Giddy says:

@Molly, “Groupon level fillers” I’m howling!

      • Moneypenny424 says:

@Molly “Groupon level fillers” wins! Agreed, if he’d had bad cosmetic work, he wouldn’t be out in public.

    • Eurydice says:

I’m going to add my vote for steroids – even his nose looks puffier.

      • Taylor says:

Yes, his nose is puffy. This is obviously medically related. Steroids or an underlining health condition. Injectables don’t make your face look squishy. You look rock hard, like how Madonna looks right now…

    • Elaine Stritch says:

Yeah that was my immediate thought. This is medical steroids. It definitely doesn’t look like filler.

    • FHMom says:

      I thought prednisone?

    • Celina says:

Meds sound like a real possibility. I had that same puffiness when I was on decadron.

  6. Caitlin Bruce says:

Sometimes he looks so good for his age and other times he looks super bloated and puffy. Seems to go in circles. I remember he turned up at the BAFTAs a few years ago and looked super puffy. Then on set of the latest mission impossible movie he looked really good.

The work he had done in 2009 was amazing. Go back and look at him for the Valkyrie press tour, he looks great. That was deffo from the famous plastic surgeon in Brazil.

  7. Abby says:

He looks very different from the last time I saw photos of him this year. I wonder what’s going on? I’ve always thought he looked preternaturally preserved, like he must have had really good procedures/work done. This looks a lot different.

  8. Lucy2 says:

He definitely looks different. I definitely think he was having work done overseas and then had to stop and the pandemic hit.
His baseball answer reminds me when he was asked his favorite movie, he couldn’t even name one, he just kept saying “all of them“. He’s a strange dude, and let’s not forget, a higher up in an abusive cult.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

I thought his answer was simply diplomatic. He’s still a powerful figure in an abusive cult.

      • lucy2 says:

For a regular person maybe, but he just never answers anything, he’s incredibly vague, like he’s been prepped on how to answer stuff without ever saying anything.

  9. faithmobile says:

I’m just here for the “beat LA” chanting in the background of the video.

  10. SarahCS says:

I thought this was Charlie Sheen when I first glanced at the header pic. He definitely seems to go through cycles of looking so different. Is it getting work done or something else? Medication? Is he hurting himself doing stunts?

    • Seaflower says:

He hurt his ankle badly doing a leap between two buildings for one of his MI films

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

For that, one might get and intra-articular steroid injection. Someone would not be prescribe systemic steroids (risk would outweigh benefit) for a joint injury (says the lady who has had a few joint injections for injuries).

    • el Annoy says:

I thought “He looks like a healthy Charlie Sheen” when I saw the pictures.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ SarahCS, my bet is that he ate Tom Cruise! You can’t look like that without having eaten something enormous, possibly the ego of Tom Cruise? Anyway, he looks like weird as he is weird….

  11. Tris says:

Not to be a wet blanket over the cele-bitching, but he actually looks pretty happy in the videos.

  12. Bettyrose says:

Wow. I was sitting like a few feet away. I missed all that commotion but honestly the game was painful. And I would’ve been way more interested in chatting with Danny Glover, who I at least know is a fellow Giants fan.

  13. Lipreng says:

He could be on a steroid like Prednisone for his injuries from the set. Maybe.

  14. Barrett says:

I wonder if its a combo of more than 1 thing – filler, pandemic weight gain or steroid and past filler? I more believe the filler and pandemic. I think he’s odd but I always feel he would of had aged well if he left himself alone.

I wish we saw his natural face age. Its like the line that Jamie Lee Curtis said- “we are erasing generations of beauty”. I’m not a huge fan of Alec Baldwin, but he aged and looks like himself. Robert Redford, Harrison Ford. Sean Connery, Pierce Bronson. ….

Tom is erasing something nice ab his bone structure and essentially “him”.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

      Past filler dissolves over time

    • bettyrose says:

      Barrett –
I spend more time than I should wondering how the Kardashians are going to age. All the procedures they’ve had at such young ages, and we don’t yet have an elderly generation who’ve had those procedures young. The Kardashians have oddly volunteered themselves (or rather spent the fortunes of a small nation) to beta test all these procedures.

  15. Hell Nah! says:

I’m going back and forth between “Nothing to see here, he looks fine” and “Yikes, what happened to his face?”

What’s not up for debate? He’s still a total freak I’d take pains to avoid.

    • AmyB says:

@Hell Nah! You said it perfectly!! Can’t believe I once liked Tom Cruise…seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away lol! He is someone I cannot stand to the point of avoiding his movies always now. His connection with Scientology/and his non-existent relationship with his daughter Suri etc., makes me ill. Enough said.

      • BothSidesNow says:

I am with you AmyB! I don’t watch his movies, or anything related to him. As I watched the video above, I thought to myself of how rude it was for him and his buddy to be standing up during the game, blocking the view for others behind them. Then he continued to do so with Glover, reaching behind his seat to shake hands? Was he there to watch a the game or for a boost of fan-fawning?

      • LahdidahBaby says:

Yes, to both AmyB and BothSidesNow.

  16. Ameerah says:

Honestly this looks like when someone is on medication with steroids in it. The puffy cheeks and jawline

    • bml says:

Yep– I looked like this, painfully puffy, when I was on steroids during cancer treatment. Those meds REALLY make your cheeks HUGE.

  17. Liz version 700 says:

He used to be a handsome weird cult oppressor. Now he is a puffy weird cult oppressor. Still empty inside

  18. LillyfromLillooet says:

I think his pr team has probably figured out that attending sporting events is a safe way to present Tom to the public outside of work, without kicking up dirt about Suri.

    • Chrissy says:

Agree. He has a new MI coming out and I think he’s heavily financially invested in its success, so being seen as someone “normal” and enjoying a ball game is a distraction from his image as the Creep from COS.

      • Chaine says:

Exactly, and the having his son right out next to him is also important to his image “see just a cool normal dad hanging out with his kid at the game”—given the Suri debacle.

      • Jan90067 says:

I think that having Connor there actually INVITES asking about Suri, and why he hasn’t been seen with *her* in years and years (and Thank God for that!).

I can’t imagine it was an easy conversation for Katie Holmes to have with her daughter about why her father basically disappeared from her life. This freak literally GHOSTED his own daughter (though I actually think she is Tommy Davis’ kid. She looks JUST like him!)

    • Stan says:

      This. This. This.

  19. locamg says:

From other angles, it doesn’t look as bad….but….puffy FOR SURE.

  20. phlyfiremama says:

Dude looks like he is storing nuts for the winter in his cheeks.

  21. OriginalLeigh says:

Putting on weight for a role?

  22. Mom2Mom says:

That quote about being a fan of baseball hits like “Go sports! Get more points than the other team!”

    • FilmTurtle says:

It really does. “Go sportsball!” That answer indicates this was intended to be part of a press tour. They hauled out Connor, too. We’ve already seen TC at a restaurant, so my guess is walking a dog? Grocery shopping? Ice cream in a park? I find this stuff fascinating.

    • Meg says:

I know! That’s how I read that too, very robotic

    • DeltaJuliet says:

Yeah, he clearly knows NOTHING about baseball LOL

  23. AmelieOriginal says:

Wow, Connor was there too! We so rarely see him and Bella out and about. I didn’t even know he was married until recently, I don’t think there are any pics of him and his wife. He moved to Florida and got into deepwater fishing or something? I wonder if Tom ever sees Bella, you never see pics of them together.

    • Stan says:

Bella lives in London with her husband. She is an auditor in Scientology. Connor is also major into Scientology.

  24. AMJ says:

My money is on steroids, for inflammation. He’s got a classic moon face thing. If you need steroids for a long enough time to cause this, it’s probably something more serious. Most folks I know who have this have bad autoimmune disorders. Somehow, methinks Tom would never admit to a serious health issue (because he’s an invincible Sciento superman doing superhuman movie set stunts and the like) publicly, he’d rather let ppl think it’s fillers gone wrong.

    • MY3CENTS says:

I thought so as well, but then remembered he has these cycles of looking really boalted and puffy and then fine.
On the other hand if he had work done wouldn’t you think he’d be more self conscious about and hide behind a mask?
So yes it’s strange all around.

    • Nicole says:

I was coming here to say the same. He’s fighting an infection. He’s inflamed. I’m gonna guess that his doc is not cool with it. He should probably be home resting for whatever really ails him.

  25. ReginaGeorge says:

Doesn’t look like filler to me. His whole face is bigger, not just his cheek area. Looks like water retention. Is he on prednisone? He looks a bit “moon-face-ish”. Maybe he’s gained some hormonal weight. It happens. Maybe it’s on purpose for a role?

  26. Sam says:

God, his creepy smile. It’s exactly the same in every pic of him and in the beginning of the video he’s not even interacting with anyone, just sitting there with that creepy fake smile on his face. I honestly don’t even understand how he’s still making movies. With the understanding we have of his involvement with scientology and all that it represents, why is anyone showing up to pay money for his movies anymore?

  27. ME says:

Wait a minute…this is the same guy that screamed at the crew of his movie for not following Covid precautions while filming and now here he is maskless in a stadium surrounded by thousands of people. Vaccines are not 100 %. I guess he’s all about the money and not safety huh?

Also, I don’t know how Justin Bieber was fooled by that deep fake video. I mean, in the video the fake Tom Cruise was probably in his 30’s. People like to remember Tom as a young guy, forgetting he is older now. This is normal aging. I am sure in movies they use a lot of digital work to make him look a bit younger so seeing him in the “wild” may make people do a double take.

    • Anne Call says:

You have to show proof of vaccination at Giants ballpark (and dodger stadium).

      • isk8 says:

There are no vaccination or testing requirements to enter Oracle Park. We are Giants season ticket holders, and we gave up our playoff tickets this year because of the lack of Covid rules.

  28. Suzybontime says:

I think the combination of fillers and weight gain will do that to a face.
    My take anyway.

    • L4frimaire says:

I was shocked when I first saw his face because he’s usually so lean. Barely recognizable. I told my husband he looks like a typical chubby middle aged guy now, like he’s a floor manager at Lowe’s. Being lean and staying lean is a full time job and maybe he needed some time off. Anyway, Go Giants!

  29. Barbie1 says:

He decided to get f-a-t after his latest girlfriend broke up with him poor thing.

  30. kelleybelle says:

He’s been getting botox and fillers for years. “It is known.”

  31. Linny says:

Maybe he went to the Dentist same day

  32. DeltaJuliet says:

I guess these days the only childhood crush I can hold onto is Michael J Fox. Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson … not so much.

  33. Low Fiver says:

Having had prednisone before, that was my thought exactly! But I also have this other on going theory that’s the men in Hollywood all thee the same guy for plastic surgery, namely Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and George Clooney- (maybe Affleck and Damon?) and they had this Timeline where they would gain weight, sometimes for a role, and then months later come out all fit and looking amazing- people would attribute it to “getting in shape” but their face can’t exercise away those eye wrinkles.

  34. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Nothing a little exercise and vitamins can’t handle.

  35. Mina_Esq says:

He still looks great for his age. I

  36. Doublesteff says:

I think I saw some skin under his rug. His hair really seems to be thinning on his forehead/top of his head. Prednisone can cause hair loss in some individuals because of the way it affects certain hormones. Prednisone gets my vote too.

  37. Nicole says:

Looks like medicine puffiness to me. Maybe pred?

  38. Misskitten says:

I think he answered “I just like baseball” when asked which team he was rooting for, because even though Scientology is thankfully on a steep downslope, Tom Cruise has functioned as a walking, talking, breathing advertisement for it for years now. And he doesn’t want to offend ANYONE lest that person be a potential member and lord knows members are leaving the Church faster than Katie left Tom. If they’re taking in new members in a weak dribble, I’d be amazed. I think this is also why Tom Cruise is vague almost every time he’s asked for an opinion. He does not want to risk alienating ANYONE.

  39. msd says:

Looks like a medication side effect to me. $cientologist$ like Tom love to attack others for taking medications. Drag him, internet, drag him.

  40. Keira says:

The white guy he’s talking to and the woman who looks like Amal’s older sister are Larry Baer, CEO of the Giants, and his wife Pamela.
