Princess Mako, now Mako Komuro, went shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond in NYC

Last week, Princess Mako and Kei Komuro left the Tokyo rental they were living in following their lowkey civil wedding in late October. Kei basically returned to Japan so they could marry, say goodbye to their families and enjoy a few weeks in Japan as a married couple. They flew to New York last week, and they’ve moved into their new pad: a one-bedroom rental in Hell’s Kitchen.

Former Japanese princess Mako of Akishino, who gave up her title to marry a commoner, has moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Hell’s Kitchen.

Mako, who took her husband Kei Komuro’s last name, relocated to New York after a short stint at a Tokyo apartment following their October wedding, according to the New York Post.

Komuro recently earned a law degree at Fordham University this year and works at Lowenstein Sander in New York. The ex-royal is in the process of obtaining a visa to work in the United States.

One-bedroom units at the 52nd Street building rent for at least $4,300 per month. Amenities include a rooftop lounge, gym, spa, library and golf simulator.

I cannot even imagine the culture shock and the sense of freedom Mako must be feeling right now! She’s lived in the West before – she went to college at the University of Edinburgh and University of Leicester – but Kei is the one who seems to enjoy the American lifestyle, and he enjoyed his time at Fordham. Kei is currently working and studying to retake the New York Bar exam. Meanwhile, Mako – who is now Mako Komuro, no royal title – was seen out shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond. She apparently bought hangers, towels, organizer baskets and paper towels. She must have had so much fun in there.

Of course it’s the Daily Fail stalking them! They have no access to H&M, so they they have to stlak the next exciting (ex) royals! Cause lord knows the Cantbridges aren’t it!

  2. rawiya says:

She’s in jeans! I live!!! Okay, now the press needs to leave them alone.

    • BeanieBean says:

Love her whole outfit, but there’s something creepy about those photos & I feel bad for looking at them. For some reason, I wouldn’t want people checking out my purchases. Which is dumb, I know, because anybody standing in line behind you or in front of you can see, but still.

  3. ElleV says:

This poor woman – she should be left alone.

  4. Janice Hill says:

I love her look with long hair and bangs. I’m so used to seeing her in palace photos where she and 6 other women are dressed in 6 different versions of the same gown and hair, and wearing 6 different versions of the same tiara, that it’s shocking to see her dressed casually.

  5. RoyalBlue says:

    And the stalking has begun.

  6. Murphy says:

I hope they stop following her soon. She came here to escape.

  7. KinChicago says:

I remember shopping here when I got m first place and how happy silly little things like a duck bath and a frog sink drain stopper made me.

I hope she is happy too.

  8. Lucylee says:

Please don’t do this to her. Her trip to Bed Bath and Beyond is about as news worthy as me trying to find a $5 discount coupon at the checkout counter.Daily Mail is a trash wrapper.

    • Polly says:

This. It’s wonderful that she’s finally able to live a normal life but we don’t need to see it.

  9. Hrefna says:

I hope Prince Harry reaches out to her, he’s one of the few people who might understand what she is going through.

  10. what's inside says:

Leave her alone. She is not public property.

  11. Amy Bee says:

The Royal experts were adamant that Mako wasn’t going to have the same experience or treatment as Harry and Meghan when she moved to the US but the NYPD did meet her and her husband at the airport and unfortunately the paparazzi are following her.

  12. Willow says:

I imagine the Japanese press pays a LOT of money for pictures of either of them, unfortunately. I really hope she has security. Definitely agree she should be left alone.

  13. Coffeeisgood says:

I saw these pictures on the daily mail and felt really sad for her. They said she was lost walking around in NY and had to ask for directions from people. Its so stressful to move to a new city and navigate around and top that off by having some creep following you and taking your pictures. Ugh. She does have amazing street style though.

    • ThatsNotOkay says:

And what she likely found out when asking for directions is that EVERY New Yorker is BUSY! But also, EVERY New Yorker will stop and help you if you ask for directions, and even walk you to your destination or the nearest subway if you’re lost, while giving you tips on how never to get lost again!

      I just…LOVE NEW YORK!

And I love Bed Bath and Beyond. It’s like comfort food. When she gets her bearings, she should try Face Values and Beyond or that other shop Harmon Face Values for discounts. I try to stop myself from going to FVB every day. I also agree that they should be afforded the privacy and anonymity they came here for. Wishing her all the best and all the 20% off on single item coupons she can hoard!

Love these two 💚 I hope they’re enjoying nesting 💚
