Amal Clooney wore a great outfit, spoke about Ukraine at the UN

The white outfit is exactly how I would dress if I was rich and thin. Amal Clooney stepped out in New York on Wednesday and she was getting pap’d like crazy in her two outfits. The white outfit is far superior and, as I said, pretty close to my dream outfit. A sacky shift dress which looks professional yet chic? Plus a fantastic white coat and a great black leather tote? Plus the shoes!! Perfect outfit.

Amal also wore a polka-dotted two-piece dress yesterday which… is not my favorite, but she’s pulling it off. She wore the polka dots to the United Nations, where she was part of a presentation to the UN Security Council. The presentation was about Russia’s war crimes and acts of genocide in Ukraine. True story: four weeks ago, the Ukrainian government reached out to several high-profile law firms for help in representing their country’s interests with this very issue, the prosecution of Russian war crimes. Ukraine hired Covington & Burling, Withers and Amal Clooney, who still works for Doughty Street Chambers. Amal was part of the official legal team arguing for movement from the UN Security Council. Here’s a short but powerful clip of her speech:

I still think about Amal’s recent Time Magazine profile and her excellent statement about her goal of “waging justice for victims”: “Because justice doesn’t just happen—you have to wage it; you have to bend the arc toward it. We try to do that by holding those who are responsible to account. So the methodology is to expose, but also to punish and remedy.” Just think that applies here too.

  2. Giddyg says:

Beautiful, stylish, thin, rich, smart, committed to good works, married to George Clooney. Damn.

  3. Krista says:

She always looks great. Kate the Keen, please take notes.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Kate would look great in Amal’s white outfit.

    • BeanieBean says:

I was thinking, now that’s how you do a peplum. But then again, that tote has an actual notebook in it with actual documents, some of which were written by Amal herself. That’s where Katie Keen would trip up, the actual business side of dressing businesslike.

I don’t think you get into her line of work unless you have a passion for it and really believe in doing the work. It’s easy to spout platitudes and she could certainly just hang out in LA and Italy full time now but she’s not.

She looks great in both outfits.

I know a lawyer (barrister) who’s worked with her here in the UK, and said her passion is the real deal. Said her family is very wealthy so she was already just taking on the cases she was passionate about, as she didn’t need the money. Now she really doesn’t need the money but is still advocating for victims. I think that’s fantastic. Keep it up, Amal!

And I love both outfits too!

      • Lyra says:

Though, is there the rumour that her family money comes from dirty money like trafficking. And that her marriage with Clooney was arranged. I don’t feel Anal, sorry. I know one barrister that said she was not that great, one barrister among a lot of others who get press for her marriage.

  5. Harla says:

I don’t really care what Amal is wearing when what she’s saying is so important. The crimes being committed are horrible and I’m glad that she is saying it out load so that everyone will know what Putin in doing.

    • Trina says:

You’re right. I’m ashamed to say I love her style though.

    • Yup, Me says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted Amal on their team because she’s good at what she does AND because her profile is high enough to get media attention. Her style serves a purpose.

  6. Hannah says:

I LOVE that cream coat and those shoes. I wish like hell camel coloured trench coats would *take off* in England. To me, they’re the ultimate cool, chic American style item. Here, we have coat dresses 😖🙄🥱 I love Amal’s style

    • Brandy Alexander says:

I’m shook! I’m planning to buy a Burberry trench this fall, and you’re telling me they’re not popular in their home country?

Amal spoke at a Women in Leadership Conference hosted by Accenture’s CEO Julie Sweet, that focused on international business, changing the definitions of success to include sustainability and diversified workforces, and refugee work (Welcome.US CEO spoke).

The white dress is short sleeved with clean detailing lines. It was perfect for the one on one conversation about justice, her law career, and what the Clooney Foundation is working on worldwide (court observers, audio, data collection on justice systems, etc.) She is so impressive – lovely, self deprecating and whip smart while also being very approachable about her work and how tough the subject of war crimes is so needing to enjoy the wins when you get them.

The spot suit is how you rocks an 80s vibe in a modern way (as someone who had a very similar suit in the 80s).

  8. Merricat says:

I think you can love her work and her style, too. I love that she’s smart and is committed to her work, and I love that she knows how to dress. You can have brains, substance, AND beauty.

  9. MissMarirose says:

How is there paparazzi at the UN? That seems unusual.

    • BeanieBean says:

Looks like just outside on the city sidewalk. It’s been awhile since I visited, but I do believe the sidewalk on that side of the street is open to everyone. That’s for the polka dot outfit; the other appears to be at her hotel, maybe The Carlyle?

I’m so happy to see she’s still kicking ass and fighting for good in this world. Not that I thought she would, but she could have easily been Amal Clooney: A++ list celeb wife who quits her job, does some light consulting work here and there, and sits a on a few charity boards for vanity.

(I mean, if *I* had the chance to live on Lake Como and just be rich all day, I’d just do that.) Love to see her still doing all the Amal Alamuddin things that make this world a better place.

Smart, accomplished, beautiful. George Clooney married up.
