James Corden: Prince Harry is ‘a devoted and loving husband and father’

James Corden apparently plans to return to the UK when he’s completed his final season of The Late Late Show. Corden surprised everyone when he announced that he was leaving his hosting duties at the end of the next season (2022-2023). He plans to write and develop other projects, and he also chose to chat with the Sun about his life in California and his admiration for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. As I’ve said, all of the British papers and TV shows are obsessed with Meghan and Harry. They ask everyone about the Sussexes. Corden at least knows them, and his sketch with Harry aired in February 2021 and it was one of the biggest viral videos of The Late Late Show. Here’s what Corden had to say:

Whether he’s been to the Sussexes’ Montecito pad: “I have. It was more a sort of play date scenario [with the kids]. Then we went out for dinner after, it was lovely. Obviously I’m not telling you any more. Obviously.”

The Sussexes’ wedding: “Afterwards though, [at the evening reception], I did make a joke, dressed up as Henry VIII, and told everyone: ‘George Clooney’s here, so congratulations on your new Nespresso machine, guys!’ ”

He respects Harry & Meghan: “Look, I’m a huge fan of both of them. Obviously I know Harry better than I know Meghan but I think it’s really hard to judge, or be judgmental. People process things and deal with things in different ways and that’s OK, and it’s all right to think whatever you think about somebody. I don’t know if it necessarily needs to be voiced the whole time but my experience of them has been nothing but positive. I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Harry, and anyone who has been around him and spent time with him would feel exactly the same way. I think he is a devoted and loving husband and father and I think what they have done [in turning away from royal life] is incredibly brave and I’ll always be in their corner. I have nothing but admiration and respect for them. I think it’s impossible to judge any of it really.”

He would also love to do a skit with the Cambridges: “I’m a big fan of William and Kate. I feel like they are going to be quite busy around the summer though, aren’t they? I think they have got quite a lot of other plans so I’m not holding my breath but they know where to find me . . .”

[From The Sun]

Corden knows that the British media is looking to jump on anything involving Harry and Meghan. Even if the subject is the mildest, most uncontroversial thing, they’ll find some way to make Meghan and Harry sound like deranged radicals. Corden is basically saying he likes them, he respects them, he doesn’t hold it against them that “moved to California” (because he did the same). Anyway…

These RRs like to claim that Harry and Meghan are shut ins because they can’t track them. But enough information like this story above comes out that paints a picture of the Sussex’s having a thriving social life. And not only leave their house frequently but leave town too. I mean, Serena Williams mentioned that she frequently seeks advice from Harry and they hang out on each other’s lawns for hours just talking, Corden has play dates, Nacho is forming rugby teams with Harry, Harry was spotted hanging out at a rodeo in Texas, Harry was at the super bowl with Eugenie, I’ve seen pics on social media of Meghan and Archie at a friends house hanging out with other kids, etc.

The Sussex’s have their shit on LOCK and it’s killing the RRs they don’t have the foggiest idea what they’re doing.

  2. Amy Bee says:

It’s nice for him to say these things but the only way the press is going to back off Harry and Meghan is if the Queen steps in says to leave them alone and the press is going to want something in return, like an exclusive interview with her or some never before seen photos.

  3. Noki says:

I have found that most British celebs do the both sideism when it comes to expressing that they like the Sussexes, they then have to say they also like the Keens or whole family.

    • Becks1 says:

They know Harry isn’t going to be the one to give them an OBE or whatever.

    • swirlmamad says:

They did mention in this article that he’s planning to move back to the UK or whatever, so he can’t exactly say he doesn’t like the FFK and Q, I guess.

      • Over it says:

Lol. Oh but I wish he would, I would pay good money for someone famous or many famous people to finally say we can’t stand will and Kate, they are lazy, entitled and racist. I will just have to hold onto my daydreams.lol

      • aftershocks says:

Yeah everybody, I agree. Corden is being neutral about the brouhaha. But he’s also saying that M&H are cool people. And it’s true that he knows Harry better than Meghan. There’s nothing wrong with mentioning that. Overall, Corden has had positive interactions with M&H, and he’s making it clear that the Sussexes are regular people who are fun to be around, which Sussex supporters already know. The deranged Meghan-haters and snobby royalists need to chill.

For sure, Corden doesn’t want to ‘burn any royal bridges,’ that might prevent him from receiving prestigious, honorary awards in the future. That’s definitely why Corden threw in that admiration for FFK & Q. I’m with you @Over It — the truth about W&K’s sad, pissy characters and awful behaviors, needs to be fully exposed. It’s their status as future futures connected to that antiquated institution which continues to hold them up, if even by a well-worn, yet seemingly strong thread.

  4. C-Shell says:

Well, he hedged his remarks a little, but I don’t blame him — he can’t burn bridges, after all. Still, while there’s not exactly a “ring of steel” around the Sussexes, there’s a cocoon of protective friends and colleagues who are willing to go on the record time and again about how positive and nurturing both Meghan and Harry are in their relationships and interactions. It’s so refreshing when all you get from The Other Ones are anonymous sources and unhinged 🤡🤡🤡 and 🐀🐀🐀 doling out lies and innuendo.

Now they have left that nest of vipers who broadcasted and twisted their every breath, action and just dreamt up crap, why wouldn’t both lead happy, normal productive work and family lives?! H wanted to leave b4 he’d even met M now they are both free to be happy. It isn’t rocket science is it? Both are happy and thriving in American sunshine with family and friends that they can trust NOT to leak to the Fail. Good for them!

  6. Shai says:

I don’t care for James Corden in a hosting capacity, but I am glad Harry chose his show for his interview skit thing back then. James was and has always been extremely respectful of him, didn’t do too much digging and showed Harry’s fun loving personality.
UK media is just mad Harry has protected Meghan since day one and limited their access (they’re literally on camera admitting they were mad about that). No matter how much they want to keep up this narrative that Harry and Meghan are rude/obnoxious/are shunned, interviews like these always prove them wrong. Anyone who has dealt with either in any capacity only has nice things to say.

    • ThatsNotOkay says:

I think you hit the nail on the head. Harry put Meghan and her well-being first, and they’re not used to that, because it’s never happened before–not with a single other Royal male.

    • SomeChick says:

I agree – not a fan of Corden, but that was some adorable and well played tv.

  7. Becks1 says:

I like how he’s giving an interview to the Sun talking about how its impossible to judge them and how good of people they are, especially Harry. Don’t think that’s going to go over well with that audience, LOL.

But seriously that’s what we hear from all their friends, that they’re just good people, and its telling that we dont really hear anything negative about them besides from the tabloids. Of course it doesn’t make a dent in the insane toxic mess that is the british media, but it doesnt hurt either.

    • C-Shell says:

Yes! We should pay close attention to the fact that Corden agreed to this interview with the SUN, of all the UK media he could have picked from. The Derangers will probably “cancel” and boycott him, now, but he’s getting a counter message to the right audience.

  8. Ginger says:

I read a Sun article a few months ago (moment of weakness I guess) and this reporter clearly wanted to find a negative story about Harry and Meghan and couldn’t. They are involved in the community and everyone had nothing but nice things to say about them. You can tell the reporter was pissed about this. Apparently, they go out often and the community leaves them alone. A British tabloid hack wouldn’t understand this.

  9. Stephanie says:

I wish they weren’t friends with him, tbh. He has a horrible reputation within the industry. He’s not a great person.

  10. katherine says:

I don’t know how I feel about this. He has good things to say about Harry, which is nice. But his kids go on playdates with Meghan’s kids and he’s had dinner with Meghan and he had to add in that he doesn’t know her? Also, “I think it’s really hard to judge, or be judgmental.” Judgmental about what??

Also: “People process things and deal with things in different ways and that’s OK, and it’s all right to think whatever you think about somebody. I don’t know if it necessarily needs to be voiced the whole time.” … What is he talking about here? Is he talking about derangers who hate Meghan? Or Meghan talking about her experience with the royal family? (which only ever happened ONCE. On Oprah.) Maybe I’m reading too much between the lines.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

katherine, I just quickly read his comments and my first impression made me think he was trying not to get the derangers activated when he said what he did about judge/judgmental. I thought the same with the processing things quote. My mind went there when I saw it was the Sun that he was talking to (I always look at the source before I read the post). That doesn’t mean I’m right. He worked hard in this interview to keep neutral except he was clear in the positive things he said about Harry & Meghan. The other thing I noted, was that I read it to mean their children had a play date. One. If that’s true, he wouldn’t really know Meghan, but I do think it’s likely he didn’t want to get the derangers going. I thought that he chose his words carefully.

    • Jennifer says:

Sounds like he said he knows Harry better than Meghan, which doesn’t surprise me.

  11. Over it says:

I am really curious as to what Willy and Katie are so busy over the summer with? We know they take months off every summer, so maybe they will be moving but again this won’t make them busy because they have staff who do all these things for them. The kids? Again staff of nannies.

    • Talia says:

I think he means the various Jubilee activities. The press are trying to portray their participation as an exhausting whirlwind of activities.

  12. Bisynaptic says:

    What is this word salad?

  13. Fig says:

I wish Harry and James weren’t so close because James has a reputation of being really terrrible to non-famous people (something Jimmy Kimmel made fun of when he was on James’s show and asked James to name one of the cameramen on his show, and James couldn’t). I admit Carpool Karaoke is pretty fun though.
