Hailey Bieber: “There’s a reason they say ‘for better or for worse'”

Hailey Bieber is pretty and vapid. There’s nothing wrong with that really, and I appreciate the fact that she’s not trying to convince everyone that she has hidden depths. She likes clothes, she likes makeup, she believes in “vibes” and she’s married to Justin Bieber. Hailey is one of several covers for Harper’s Bazaar’s September issue. The editorial is kind of blah, which is funny because the cover story is all about how she’s a next-level fashionista with impeccable style. Bazaar literally put her in stiff overalls in one photo!! LOL. Some highlights from this piece:

She’s willing to mess up with fashion: “I look back on things that I’ve worn and I literally am so embarrassed. I’m like, what was I thinking?! That was such a miss.” Embarrassment, though, is different from regret. “I’m never afraid to try anything. I think that just goes to show that there’s a moving evolution [in my style]. It just keeps growing. Which is kind of how I want to be in all areas of life.”

She thinks it’s fine to get married young & figure things out along the way: “I just think life is changing all the time. Day to day, week to week, year to year. I think a perfect example of that is over the last six months, both of us have gone through very serious health issues. You have to figure out how to deal with this sh-t as it comes, you know? There’s a reason they say ‘for better or for worse.’ Like, that’s for real!”

She admires Princess Diana’s style: “I was really inspired by the fact that she was the most-looked-at woman in the world at that time, of all time, and she did what she wanted with her style. She really expressed herself through her style despite being in the position she was in.”

Fashion makes her anxious sometimes. “I get photographed so much that I feel like sometimes I put pressure on myself.” In part, it’s her own perfectionism. “Even if I’m just throwing on jeans and a T-shirt, I want it to be a dope pair of jeans and a great T-shirt!”

Four years since Hailey & Justin’s engagement: “He’s still the person that I wanna be rushing back to. I might fly somewhere and go do a job, but I can’t wait to come back and hang out. And I feel like that’s because of the effort that’s been put in on both sides. At the end of the day, like, he’s my best friend, but it still does take a lot of work to make it work. And then I know eventually, when kids come in the picture, that’s going to be a whole other season of navigating how to make that work.”

[From Harper’s Bazaar]

I say this all the time, but I am genuinely surprised that they’ve made it this far. This union had “10 month marriage” written all over it, but they’re still enjoying married life, I guess. Hailey doesn’t seem like she’s in any kind of rush to have babies, which… is probably smart. Justin thinks he wants to be a father, but I like that Hailey is the one saying “we’re not ready.” Hailey’s right about Diana – she loved clothes, she loved to express herself sartorially, she loved whimsy and shoulder pads and power suits. Still, I kind of wish some of these younger girls would start to get really obsessed with Carolyn Bessette.

I am no Hailey fan, but I always feel like *Justin* is what’s a lot of work, not marriage. Yes, she had a health scare, but it’s been years and years of them talking about all the work they have to put in on his issues. I don’t hear a lot about how much work he has to do to take care of her. But she married her teen idol, so guessing she doesn’t mind?

I dunno I really like her. She’s had to put up with a lot of Selena/Justin shipping even at the met gala (which was sooo cringe) but she has the greatest and best attitude towards marriage and partnership that I’m not really surprised anymore that it’s worked out (well, so far) I hope they wait another couple of years to have a kid too cause they are still really young, although they are both totally into kids and it’s sweet. Another thing: she calls him her best friend NOT her soul mate which has been proven to be an indicator of a solid marriage. (I saw a study one time on it and I believe it)

“when kids come in the picture, that’s going to be a whole other season of navigating how to make that work” yes, she’s mature and a realist about those things, that’s how they’ve made it so far

I agree with Kaiser can we get some Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy fashion stans please. Hailey is boring and her husband is still a racist troll in my book. I still think he did that video with Diane Keaton to compete with Selena’s Only Murders co-stars Martin and Steve. So embarrassing.

Biebs recently cancelled his concert in my city a few weeks ago, just days before it was supposed to happen. His fans had been camping outside the venue for months, so…you can imagine they were not too happy about it. As for Carolyn Bessette, what I keep reading about other than her style (which I absolutely love) is her personality. Apparently she would light up any room she walked in. I don’t dislike Hailey at all but it doesn’t seem to be the case with her.

I guess you haven’t gotten to the part about Carolyn’s depression, drug abuse, suspected infidelity (on her side), and escalating domestic violence (at her hands). People may have been attracted to her beauty and undeniable intelligence, but she apparently hated social situations. I wouldn’t really want CBK as a role model to anyone, other than for style inspo obvi.

@mina what are your sources about Carolyn? I have seen a lot of salacious stuff written about her after her death with anonymous sources. I’ve never seen her family or Kennedys comment. Unless there is reliable info a lot of it comes off as smearing a dead woman to me. If you have reliable sources please share.

I know adjacent to nothing about her. Sadly, my knowledge of her is pretty much the men in her life (her husband, her Dad, her Uncle). She might not be a navel-gazingly deep person (see above, I don’t know much about her), but I think she sounds realistic, grounded and mature here. Good on her.

She is really growing on my as a model, and I think she has a unique style. She and Gigi are imo the best nepo baby models, although I have a soft spot for Bella as well. I hope with all the work she does in her marriage she has some fun too. I do think she sounds fairly mature for someone who grew up the way she did.

I really like Hailey’s style. She does seem surprisingly grounded and mature for her age, especially considering the crowd she hangs around with.

I really love Hailey so much, I think she has handled the whole internet bully(from her husband’s ex fans), very well and she’s so mature for her age to me, I also think she has one of the best street styles ever, she always looks so simple elegant and chic.
