Cher on her relationship with Alexander Edwards: I don’t give a f what anyone thinks

On Friday I wrote about Cher and Alexander “AE” Edwards. I actually said I didn’t care about Cher and AE’s 40-year age gap because I’m not usually bothered by age gaps. I also respect that AE has a good job at Def Jam and don’t think he’s using her for ulterior motives. I’m sure he’s pleased as punch to have landed THE Cher, as he should be. My *objection* was how he treated Amber Rose. And not just that he cheated on her while she was raising their infant son, but how he wore his infidelity like a badge of honor. I found it distasteful. However, much like you all, Cher doesn’t care what I or anyone else has to say about her relationship. She’s thrilled to be with AE and doesn’t give a flying f*** what people have to say about it.

After sparking romance rumors with Alexander “A.E.” Edwards, Cher seemingly addressed the unexpected relationship on social media.

Late on Nov. 5, she posted a photo of the music producer, captioning it, “Alexander” and including a red heart emoji. The Grammy winner also dropped some cryptic answers while participating in a Q&A on the social media platform.

When asked if the man in the photo was her “new man,” Cher slyly replied with a smiley face with hearts emoji. She replied to another fan with the same emoji after they tweeted, “Good for you. Enjoy what you’re doing and who you’re with and FK everyone else. You deserve to be happy.”

When another fan wrote that he “better be treating you like the queen you are,” Cher seemingly confirmed that was case writing, “LIKE A [crown emoji].

Some fans expressed criticism over the pair’s age difference. Cher is 78 and Edwards is 36. “I’m Not Defending us,” she tweeted on Nov. 6. “Haters are Gonna Hate…Doesn’ Matter That & Not Bothering Anyone.”

Cher also clapped back after a Twitter user questioned Edwards’ “motives and intentions,” responding, “Haven’t You Got Anything Else 2 Do!? Let Me Explain…I DONT GIVE A [plane emoji] FK WHAT ANYONE THINKS.”

[From Yahoo!]

Cher is 76 years old, she knows what she’s doing. And she should have the confidence to throw a middle finger to those questioning her relationships, me included. She’s having the time of her life and being treated the way she wants. Cher has rarely had conventional relationships so again, I know she went into this one with her eyes open. She’s getting hers. And as she said in her post, they aren’t bothering anyone. Like I said on Friday, she and AE probably have their arrangement figured out and she’s clearly happy with it so live on, Cher. But I’m going to need to get f**cked because I still don’t care for this guy.

Cher embodies unapologetic confidence. I like her version of no fs given. As I age, I want to do what makes me happy and I hope for the same for everyone else. It’s liberating and the best part of getting older! As long as you’re not hurting anyone, do you to the fullest.

    • Yup, Me says:

Cher has been like this for decades. It’s not just being older. The best time to start having this energy is now so you’re really well practiced once you’re older (rather than ending up being a bully, which a lot of women unfortunately do after decades of being fake nice has made us grumpy and pissed and then menopause decreases our levels of “tend and befriend” hormones).

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If men can date much younger women, women should be able to do just the same. And if she feels like buying that young men a Porsche, a Rolex and an iPhone 14 so be it.

  3. Shanaynay says:

Personally, the age gap would make me feel like I’m dating my grandpa. I couldn’t do it, but that’s just me!

  4. Carnivalbaby says:

I feel you on this Hecate. At the end of the day this is none of my business beyond me keeping up with my celebrity gossip. Wouldn’t be my choice for a guy, given how he treated Amber I would be wary. It’s not about if he is “good to you”; for me it’s is he a good person generally.

  5. Woke says:

I mean good for her but it’s silly to even address it.

  6. Lukie says:

I mean, he’s closer to 40 than 30 so, the age thing, IMO isn’t a big deal. The 22 and the 40-something Mayer? Completely different situation.

  7. Runaway says:

Cher is a goddamn icon and can do whatever she wants!!!

    • Brassy Rebel says:

      This! 👆
I went to her farewell concert in 2004, and it was the best time ever. She descended from the rafters in a swing when she arrived on stage. The contraption got stuck halfway down. She just swore and laughed it off before completing her descent. Awesome.
Her opening act was the 9th or 10th iteration of The Village People, and they were great too.

  8. HeyKay says:

Cher is pretty well known for doing what she wants, forever.
I agree that it’s not about how he treats you, is he a good person in general? And cheating on the gf with a new baby, is not a good person, IMO.
So, I’m sure Cher is going ahead with her eyes open.

  9. Julia K says:

A dose of reality here; Cher looks great at 76 with her clothes on, but take off those clothes and nothing can hide what the years do to your body at 76. Unless you undress in the dark, of course.

    • MsIam says:

What has that got to do with anything? Sorry, but you sound ageist.

      • Julia K says:

Well I am ageist. I’ve got the years, the experience and the credentials to be open and unapologetically ageist. Go suck a lemon.

      • MsIam says:

And it sounds like you’ve spent a lifetime sucking on lemons. You go have a bad day, Cher and I will have a fabulous one. And I take back my sorry as well.

    • MaryContrary says:

As a 56 year old, I thought the same. Like, good for her, she clearly has a LOT of self confidence.

    • Caty says:

Well I’m sure she has been and keeps going to the best plastic surgeons and dermatologists in the world, something normal everyday aging women cannot afford. I mean she looks like she is in her late 40’s/early 50’s. Look at JLO, how many 53 year old’s look like her? I’m betting Cher looks just fine under those clothes.

      • Twin Falls says:

Oh, so the way to look and feel good at 76 is to…not look 76? Got it.

      • caty says:

Twin falls, like it or not, especially, if one is dating someone 40 years younger and is a celebrity then, yep, clearly that is what works for HER. I did not say ALL older women now did I?

      • Twin Falls says:

You are, in the context of Cher, her age, her younger lover, and her body, equating looking just fine with being able to afford to make her body look younger by bringing up other “older” women who look younger than their age and are (presumably therefore) still considered sexually attractive.

So for Cher to be “looking just fine” under her clothes at 76, she should…not actually look 76 seems to be your point.

    • Jaded says:

@Julia K — Yikes, what an awful thing to say! I’m going to quote Bridget Jones, when asked why she isn’t married and *sprogged up* at 30:

“I suppose it doesn’t help that underneath our clothes, our entire bodies are covered in scales.”

The years, experience and credentials you say you have haven’t made you ageist, they’ve made you cruel. You’ll be 76 someday, and I hope some young thing makes an equally nasty comment about you.

    • C says:

I’m sure she and her partner are aware of how she looks undressed and I’m not sure how it’s a “dose of reality”, it just is what it is and maybe they are both emotionally healthy people who are fine with it because there is nothing wrong with a 76-year-old female body? What a strange comment.

    • Court says:

I’m 41 & my boyfriend is 67. I’m obsessed with his body. These ageist beauty standards have got to go.

  10. lucy2 says:

Part of me loves her for her “f*** it, I don’t care what anyone thinks” but the other part of me is weirded out by that big an age difference.

  11. Lucía says:

I, too, don’t mind this age gap because I don’t think it’s the same as an 22-45yo gap.

  12. Glamarazzi says:

It’s fortunate that she doesn’t care about anyone else’s opinon – and at her age why should she? – but I still think she coulda done better.

  13. Aurora says:

Have you looked at her naked body, or is it just the bile rush speaking? There was this candid bikini pic of Dame Helen Mirren at 62, and her skin/ muscle tone were those of a 20 something yo. (Not to mention bangin’ be body). Cher is known for taking exceedingly good care of herself; so it would be no surprise if her body looked younger than her ID reads… Or her actual age. What, if not? She’s still content with her life decisions, as it should be. I wish someone like Madonna took the cue. You can be old and hot without loosing your dignity!

  14. ME says:

This is Kim Kardashian in 30 years.

  15. ally says:

He is also just not cute. Can that be a main point???

  16. Therese says:

Look what a cool outfit she has on. She has style. Those pants and those boots. 78 and still has a figure like a fox.

  17. Therese says:

And anyway, I have lost my naivete about celeb associations. I truly don’t think it is always about romance; a lot of times it is an arrangement that benefits both parties, and is used to resurrect a career or bring new attention to someone who is not ready to head out to pasture. Wonder what she has coming up….. I love Cher; I love her honesty. And notice, she isn’t lying here, she isn’t spilling any beans. She is being seen and letting others go with it as they will. I find her an inspiration in some ways. I am trying to pull my life back together after the death of my mother, and being litigated before, during and after by my brother who was cut out of the will for stealing her life savings, stealing her property, forgery and extortion. It was all brutal, and I have been slogging around with my uniform, black t-shirt and black jeans. (Still love black). But I have been trying to find some things that are more stylish, more colorful, etc. I am 70 and look 20 years younger. And I still feel like a kid inside. So I find Cher, who is 78, an inspiration in some ways. God bless all.

  18. jferber says:

Cher has always been mega-talented, so no, not Kim Kardashian in 30 years. Please.
