Olivia Wilde & Harry Styles broke up after two years together, it’s ‘amicable’

I always believed that Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde would split soon after Don’t Worry Darling premiered and they had gotten the promotion done, and I wasn’t far off. They managed to stay together officially for about two months following DWD’s theatrical release, but they’re over now. No more careful leaks to Page Six and People Magazine about how none of this was ever Olivia’s fault, no more pap strolls with Olivia wearing Harry’s merch. I wonder if Olivia’s plan to move full-time to London with the kids is also off the table too. People Magazine confirmed Harry and Olivia’s split:

Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde are hitting the brakes on their romance. The “As It Was” singer, 28, and the Don’t Worry Darling director, 38, are “taking a break” from their relationship after nearly two years together, multiple sources confirm exclusively to PEOPLE.

“He’s still touring and is now going abroad. She is focusing on her kids and her work in L.A.,” says one source. “It’s a very amicable decision.”

Indeed, Wilde — along with her children, daughter Daisy, 6, and son Otis, 8 (she co-parents with ex-fiancé Jason Sudeikis) — were spotted dancing and singing along at Styles’ Nov. 15 concert in Los Angeles.

“They’re still very close friends,” says the source of the pair. Adds a friend: “Right now, they have different priorities that are keeping them apart.”

Over the course of their relationship, Wilde and Styles have had to endure drama surrounding the release of their film Don’t Worry Darling, namely persistent claims that Wilde and the film’s leading actress, Florence Pugh, were at odds.

“The public pressure on them has been difficult,” says the friend. “They’ve had ups and downs throughout the relationship.”

[From People]

Sources also insisted to Page Six that there is “no bad blood” between Olivia and Harry, and “Harry didn’t dump Olivia, or vice versa. This is the longest relationship Harry’s ever had, so clearly they have a special bond.” There’s also a lot of talk about Harry’s international tour and how they basically broke up because of it, because Olivia can’t be a full-time groupie (“Band-Aid!”) with all of her work and family commitments. It definitely feels like… Olivia was the one keeping them together and doing all of the emotional labor, that everything was always on Harry’s terms anyway, and she was the one making adjustments with her schedule. Anyway, what a bonkers relationship from start to finish. I hope they both got that out of their system.

Also: Olivia never leaves a relationship where no one is at fault and there’s no drama. She IS the drama, so in the coming weeks, we’ll hear something about how Harry screwed her over or how he was at fault somehow. That’s her M.O.

We all knew this rebound relationship (for OW)) would not last. I am surprised they made it this long. And it may have been amicable but Olivia seems to NEED to be the center of attention. I see her as emotionally needy and after a while that just is taxing for the other person. I don’t know anything about HS so I can’t comment on him.

    • Noki says:

Can two years really be considered a rebound?

      • Zazzoo says:

How in the world was it two years? I thought it was just an on set fling. Its crazy that it lasted two years. Like maybe they were really talking long term and then the stress of the DWD broke them up?

      • Lens says:

Rebound is the most overused negative term. I mean will every relationship that comes after a previous relationship be called a rebound? Only if you don’t like it? Anyway I can imagine her being the mother of two going through custody issues and drama and both their work commitments as well as being from two separate countries on top of the public hating on them as a couple could make it hard.

      • Sugarhere says:

@Noki: You’re right. Harry Styles has never beey her rebound. They had serious commitment plans together but it all came crashing when Miss O – who had so far veen a closeted mean girl – was outed as scheming and manipulative.

Additionally, Styles cares too much for his good lad image to be be part of a nasty custidy battle involving alienating young kids from their father.

We are left with this odd sentiment that Pete Davidson will be booked out for the next 3 years, and that his waiting list is expanding as I write.

      • Seraphina says:

I cannot believe for one second these two had a serious commitment to move forward and be together – for the long haul. Both, to me, seem way more into themselves (individually). Maybe I am old and jaded.

      • Cait says:

@Lens – yes! I married my rebound, and we’ve now been together over 16 years. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn’t. It depends on the emotional trauma and communication skills both parties bring into the “rebound.”

    • ELX says:

Sounds like she love bombed him, no? And then he finds out that under the shiny facade is an actual person with faults and needs etc., but not the kind of faults and needs etc. that he can manage and she perhaps gets tired of running after a young man—a friend once said ‘you can hit that for six months or maybe a year and then you better have something more than sexual attraction.’ Very true.

    • ThatsNotOkay says:

Friday night news dump. They were over before Friday and held the news to lessen the coverage.

    • DouchesOfCambridges says:

OMG in their dreams they’d be together forever but they never stood a chance. Everybody made sure to put their 2 cents in so that they would never make it. She was gonna live in the UK: I mean there has to be something serious for her to even consider moving her children there. Too much pressure broke the love…

  2. Kokiri says:

So many things to be said about this entire situation.

My heart goes to the kids, who didn’t ask for these people to be their parents, or boyfriend of, or to be used as pawns in a custody battle, to not know if they’d move to an entirely different country part time or not.

The adults need to get it together. Of course she did the work! She chased him, dumped her life for him, made him salad dressing that was a family favourite, she totally wanted all this publicity! He never looked that into it. But he still stayed for 2 years with this woman, which makes him a pretty shoddy character too.
It’s all just so pathetic, like Khloe levels of pathetic.

    • HelloDolly! says:

Yes, I never gave much thought to HS, but if he can be with OW for this long…..I judge him for that. If he was with her for 6 months, I’d give him a pass. But 2 years is a long time, and she has done some shitty things recently. It makes me think he is either not a great person or is one of those people who stays in relationships too long because they don’t want to be alone. Either option is not great.

    • Emmi says:

I think 2 years for normal people is not 2 years for celebrities who travel all the time and work on projects as opposed to steady jobs. The honeymoon phase can be a lot longer if grocery shopping and stuff like that doesn’t get in the way.

    • Lucy says:

      Good lord…the salad dressing!!!

  3. Elo says:

I have no real opinion on their relationship, I’m just here to talk about how hideous those red gloves look with that dress. Why?

    • ab says:

Same. Like what is happening there? The dress itself is gorgeous on its own!

    • AnnaKist says:

I really like the dress, too, but the red gloves are beyond ghastly. And his tattoos…ugh. They remind me of when my daughter wrote her arm at age 10 and had it in plaster for eight weeks. Anyone and everyone she came in contact with just had to make a mark on her cast: scribbles, hearts, stars, puppy dogs, cats, sayings, song lyrics, numbers, faces, smiles, kisses … you name it. I have just never understood his attraction. 🤷‍♀️

      • BVB says:

I follow her stylist on IG and she’s very proud of her work with OW, but I’m a bit of a fashion junkie, and since W and H got together she’s been wearing almost exclusively Gucci on red carpets. He has a v cozy relationship with them. She wore *not gucci* like 1 or 2 events ago and I suspected a break up announcement was coming. And yup.

Also, I don’t think she had much say if Gucci gave her something. And I love gucci, she was just not woman enough to pull off the looks.

Jodie turner smith or someone with more presence who works with the house could have made it work.

But also…. Miss Flo comes out the winner here and that’s all I have on that. I hope Flo and Pine are toasting to dodged narcissism today.

      • Sudie says:

I also never understood the attraction for Harry Styles either. He’s not either pretty or handsome, and there are some great tattoos but the doodling on his skin is not attractive in any way.

      • Concern Fae says:

Thanks for the tattoo ugh. I don’t mind tattoos, but I don’t understand getting multiple ones without considering that people see them all at the same time.

      • original_kellybean says:

I’m in total agreement about the tattoos. I actually like full (or half) sleeves on many people but this mish-mash of tattoos always bothers me. Amy Winehouse was the same. It’s exactly as you describe – it’s like someone had a thought, doodled on their skin and then thought it was a great idea for a permanent tattoo. But, it’s his skin and not mine and I don’t have to look at it so whatever floats your boat. 🙂

    • Debbie says:

Yeah, any gloves there seem unnecessary but long, red gloves is just… gilding the lily.

  4. Emily says:

I’m not an Olivia fan, BUT I think Harry is immature when it comes to relationships (I.e., the way he completely ignored her at the premiere of their film and wouldn’t claim her. If my partner behaved that way, I’d be hurt). And I 100% agree with Kaiser’s assessment that Olivia did all of the emotional labour. Harry probably couldn’t commit to being monogamous on tour or visiting her on one of his breaks, while she would have uprooted her life (and kids lives) for him. So was he being dishonest about his intentions?

    • cer says:

“(I.e., the way he completely ignored her at the premiere of their film and wouldn’t claim her.”

I know people get very upset about that, but from a PR standpoint I understood it, they still wanted to try and make the focal point the film, not the relationship.
It’s not as if they hadn’t discussed that was the MO before the promo tour started.

      • pottymouth pup says:

“I know people get very upset about that, but from a PR standpoint I understood it, they still wanted to try and make the focal point the film, not the relationship.”

by actively & overtly distancing himself from her, he actually did the opposite and made their relationship yet another thing to draw focus instead of the film. If they’d just acted like a normal couple (not all lovey lovey PDAs), it wouldn’t have added the messy behind the scenes drama talk that distracted attention from the film

      • Barbara says:

It’s entirely possible they were over by the premiere, they just didn’t want to announce it yet because it *definitely* would have overshadowed things.

    • Julia K says:

Isn’t that true of many relationships? One person does all the heavy lifting, makes all the concessions, does whatever it takes to stay together? Rarely is there an equal partnership imo. Givers and takers seem to find each other.

    • Esmerelda says:

I think it’s naive to pick up a cute twenty-something at work and expect a mature relationship out of it.
I feel like she wanted an excuse to leave her husband, and he felt flattered.

    • Thinking says:

He’s a twenty-something pop star. I mean, what could go wrong?

    • Pilar says:

I don’t think it’s to do with being monogamous at its core. It’s to do with the bad press. Harry is famously a control freak when it comes to his public image and was always the golden boy. A lot of what happened in the last couple of months reflected badly on him and his fans were saying that it’s only a matter of time before he gets out of the RS when it starts reflecting badly on him.

      • Isabella says:

Harry is 26, only 10 years older than Olivia. The man dated Taylor Swift. He is no babe in the woods.

  5. CMS says:

I wonder what her next move will be. A new man? Back to Jason? Single? It is all very sad for the kids the way this all played out. They were at Harry’s show a few days ago ffs.

And yes her fashion as of late has been terrible.
It’s like her stylists don’t like her

    • Mia4s says:

      Pete Davidson, standing by! 😉

    • Silver Charm says:

She has other films lined up, she doesn’t need a man as her ‘next move.’

      • CMS says:

I totally agree Silver Charm. I mean she didn’t have to hook up with one of the actors of a film she was directing either. Could have just focused on the work. Just curious about what’s next that’s all. I hope her next film is great!
On another note, I just saw Wonder with Florence Pugh. That girl can ACT. Watched it last night and still thinking about it this morning.

  6. Roo says:

I’m curious. Other than filming, how much time did they really spend together? She followed him to concerts, but how much quality time together does that allow?

Also, cue the interviews in a few months where she talks about how she needed someone more mature…

  7. Adequate okay says:

I really don’t understand why no one is talking about the abuse of power here. This relationship seemed so unseemly from the beginning. She was his boss, right? Is it like the old Chris Rock joke, it’s only a problem if the perpetrator is ugly?

    • Dominique says:

He is a much, much bigger star than she is. Him being in her movie seemed more like a win for her than anything else. He does not depend on her for his reputation, his livelihood or anything else really, that is probably why no one is talking about abuse of power, because there isnt any. If anything, the power imbalance is in his favour

      • Kokiri says:

        Lol

Exactly Dominique. He’s the power in the relationship.
He’s like, what, the male equivalent to Taylor Swift right now?
We will see if he has staying power like TS, but he’s huge right now.
Music, movies, modeling, he’s the “it” guy.
He helped OW career more than she ever did anything for him.

    • Bread and Circuses says:

I think that’s maybe why the studio stage-managed the promotional junkets so closely and let Florence Pugh off the hook for doing the bare minimum.

They knew the director had almost torpedoed a production with a grossly inappropriate relationship, and was additionally wrecking the signal-to-noise ratio on promoting that film with the fallout of the grossly inappropriate relationship. And the studio was Not Happy.

I don’t think Olivia Wilde will get many nice-budget directing opportunities after this. I suspect the reason she played along so nicely with the studio’s efforts to keep the situation under control is the studio threatened to burn her reputation publicly rather than privately if she didn’t.

Messing with an investment, and messing with the ‘talent’, are big no-nos to a big studio. They work like a corporation.

  8. Bad Janet says:

Man, I hate Olivia Wilde so much more after this year. I hope she crawls away for a while to cease the terrible overexposure she had had during a VERY low point, likeability-wise, for her own sake.

    • osito says:

Outside the context of the making of this film, I agree with you, Dominique.

But I think any pressure for an actor to “perform” for the powers-that-be (producers/directors/coordinators/etc) outside the context of their role is inappropriate, and I can’t puzzle out how that dynamic wouldn’t be inescapable, even between two beautiful people who were attracted to each other.

Socially, Harry may have more influence and power than Olivia or they may be equals (she comes from money/has been professionally successful — I think they are the same, and she may slightly edge him out *socially*). But that doesn’t mean that the professional context of this romantic relationship was free from the concerns about the pressure and undue influence of her title. In that context, Olivia had the burden of protecting her cast and crew. She was not an equal or a peer as the director. She was the boss. She had the power and the responsibility to set professional boundaries that she apparently did not set. Once filming and editing are over, if the feelings are still there, dive in and work out your dynamics then. But there has to be less permeability of professional boundaries, especially on platforms this large.

      • Dominique says:

Oh we can agree that she was very very unprofessional but abuse of power is something else entirely. She did not force him into this relationship by threatening his livelihood, his reputation , via blackmail or whatever. Harry Style could happily walk away at any point, despite all her connections or family money, she’s at thr bottom end of what it means to be A list. Harry Styles on the other hand is a very big deal. Movies is just another thing he’s adding to this cv.
Let us not dilute what “abuse of power” means just to foist another label on olivia wilde.

      • Pilar says:

Not a fan of Olivia but abuse is taking it too far. He’s not a child. He’s pushing 30, and they were both unprofessional for getting involved on set. Getting involved with a married woman reflects badly on him especially as he did this before. So it’s definitely interesting that people don’t question his morals. He’s also friends with James corden and was sat there while James screamed at waiters. So if anything his relationship with Olivia and friendship with James makes me question his carefully curated golden boy image.

    • osito says:

Oy! So sorry, Bad Janet! I meant to reply to a thread above yours. Apologies!

  9. Chaine says:

All abooo-ord! Next stop, Pete Davidson!

  10. Lisa says:

I hope he can find another salad dressing he likes as much

  11. Digital Unicorn says:

It was always going to end this way esp with all the drama around DWD – to me both are immature and self centred. They used each other and I think he did the dumping as she was bad for his image. Am not a fan of hers at all but the way Styles treated her at the premieres of that movie tells me everything I need to know about what kind of person he is – in public he always acted like he didn’t know her.

Wilde was rightly dumped on for her behaviour – but what about his? He got away with it – just like he gets away with the queer baiting to sell records and concert tickets.

    • Nomopho says:

“in public he always acted like he didn’t know her.”

Not just that: didn’t he keep saying he was single in all his interviews this whole time?!!

Which I personally take as more queer-baiting from him. He just wants that “~Larry is real~” section of his fans to keep giving him $$$$$.

    • Debbie says:

Whenever I see this guy, Harry Styles, I think to myself that I wouldn’t be surprised if he one day, years from now, came out as gay. Since he started out in a boy band, I get the impression that he would come out as bisexual first (if he hasn’t already done so). If he already did, forgive my ignorance since I’m not into his demographics and know little about him. But, I get the impression that he would do it in increments, when caught on camera or in a story. Anyway, he never really looked like he was into Olivia Wilde.

  12. Scout says:

Amicable? No way. Olivia threw away her life for this man. Literally. She blew up her relationship with the father of her children. She destabilized her childrens’ lives. She damaged her movie. She destroyed her relationship with her actor(s). She damaged her reputation as a director and as a professional. All for a 20’s pop-star. And then he dumps her…. Those poor kids now get more instability as their mom has to recalibrate their lives again.

    • Eurydice says:

She didn’t have to do any of that. Millions of people fall in love every day without going bonkers.

    • mia girl says:

It is definitely more this scenario than anything else. While it’s hard to say just how much Styles was was into this relationship, Wilde was SUPER into it. She clearly jumped, feet first and changed her life for him. Ugh, all that “adoration dancing” at all his shows… it’s like “Woman, pull it together- it’s all too much. The try is too hard!”

My guess is things became strained after the Shia tape/receipts dropped and the past couple of months have been nothing more than keeping appearances publicly, mixed with her behind-the-scenes last ditch efforts to save the relationship. Once he announced another extension to his tour, the message that he (or his people) wanted to get out of this relationship was loud and clear.

Maybe he felt he signed up for a carefree relationship with this experienced, bohemianesque woman who followed him around and loved him, but when the drama boiled up, and life hit, he was out.

      • Lux says:

Yes to all this. The nanny expose likely put the nail in the coffin for Harry because it showed just how much Olivia had lied to her family and now callous she was in pursuing her “addiction.” Very likely the stories she was telling Harry didn’t add up once everything came to light (via text message exchanges between JS and the nanny) and Harry, the 20-something pop star, noped out of that ASAP. Kind of reminds me of Pete Davidson and KK…just WAY too much baggage/pressure/kid and divorce drama for a young dude to handle.

The way OW avoided responsibility for her kids (late to pickup, putting them up at different hotel, didn’t want to FaceTime or ask how they were) was the worst thing I learned about this mess. JS’s text, “She just doesn’t want to be a mom right now” was the sad summation of the situation.

    • Dee Kay says:

This all feels really true. She left her partnership for Styles in a burning-bridges kind of way. A we’re-not-even-going-to-be-friends kind of way. An I-don’t-care-how-much-I-damage-you kind of way. She put a bomb in the middle of the life she’d built and detonated it. Now she has to assemble a new one from the pieces.

      • Turtledove says:

Exactly. Look, ending a long term relationship, especially with kids, and especially when one partner doesn’t WANT it to end is never easy, fun or pleasant. But she could have done things a lot differently. JS isn’t perfect either. But it *seems* like she didn’t try too hard to end it amicably. Making Harry lunch in the family home in front of JS for example.

  13. Delilah says:

I’m just stuck on the “2 years is the longest relationship” for Harry Styles. What is it with it being a badge of honor
to get a commitment-phobe to meet a relationship longevity milestone? Sometimes I wonder if the commitment-phobes are the lucky ones b/c they get out when it’s apparent the rel’s is doomed to fail vs do the whole long suffering–one-sided-concessions made on behalf of the more relationship-oriented partner?!?! Is it really all that praiseworthy to land the so-called elusive whale? Harry being the whale in this dynamic?

    • Thinking says:

He’s still young and has a thriving career.

For someone like him 2 years is probably a lifetime at this stage in his life.

    • AnneL says:

He’s in is late 20s, isn’t he? Two years being his longest relationship hardly makes him a commitment phobe. My son is that age and currently in his longest relationship, about one and a half years. In their case it looks like it will be permanent (they’re talking engagement), but that’s partly because their lives, goals, outlooks and desires mesh. With Harry and Olivia it was pretty complicated.

  14. Mariana says:

She seems like a rather terrible person.

  15. Leonsmomms says:

Saw the movie “Don’t Worry Darling,” that stirred all this up. Harry isnt as bad as everyone says—I think with a more experienced director who would have pushed him (instead of thinking about ******* him) would have gotten a better performance. Beautiful production design cinematography. Drags in the middle—someone said it would have been a good Black Mirrror episode.

The crap about it being about women’s sexual pleasure is a just that—Olivia trying to be edgy to drum up publicity and enhance her cool girl persona in the multiple interviews and cover stories. And prove something to Harry. Honestly he thought this was going to be a fling and turned into something way much more. Surprised it lasted this long.

And those red gloves are hideous.

    • Sammiches says:

I just watched it last night and was surprised that I liked it. It wasn’t a masterpiece by any means but it held my attention. Florence Pugh is SO dynamic on screen, she really is a great actress.

  16. Kate says:

She damaged her reputation and career for nothing.

  17. teecee says:

I don’t think this was all “for nothing.” IMO, Olivia was looking for a way out of the relationship with Jason (who, sorry, seems deranged with the whole lying down in front of the car, ranting with a baseball bat stuff, not to mention all the cheating tiktoks that have been going around for a while) and Harry was the “getaway car.” Only Harry is not Hiddleston and it was a cleaner break.

    • CMS says:

Yes, I believe that she wasn’t happy with Jason for awhile. They would have split no matter what. ON the other hand. The Nanny herself is a shady character. She didn’t even take money for the interview? They have both said she was crazy and trying to ruin their lives. Who knows if what she says is reliable. She was just one more weird addition to this crazy adult person drama.

      • K says:

Even better, the Nanny is quoted in the Daily Mail as being ecstatic that they broke up. Which is weird as hell at best and a terrible look at worst.

      • Lux says:

The nanny is shady because of what they put her through. In terms of “reliability” @CMS, the texts are pretty straightforward and damaging; their authenticity has not been questioned. The fact that they tried to cheat her out of unemployment after the dumpster fire they put her through was super low too…THAT was shady, if you ask me. If she is feeling massive waves of schedenfraude after OW gets dumped by her “addiction,” I don’t blame her. I would be delighted to see callous narcissists get their comeuppance also.

  18. HeyKay says:

OW will not have a long career as a director.
Female directors get less opportunities. Big box office returns get the next project. DWD was a box office bomb.

Harry is the bigger star, currently world wide touring, age difference, no kids, his career is his focus, he wants to be a movie star plus singer. He had nothing to lose. She changed her and her kids lives to be with him.

Btw, I watched My Policeman on Amazon Prime. Could have been anyone in Harrys role.
He is successful as a singer, I do not see him going on as an actor. He is basically stunt casting. Rupert Everett was also in it, in a very few scenes. Not a movie I would have paid to see in theaters.

    • Zazzoo says:

I want so badly to support female directors and lets face it male directors constantly sleep with their stars and churn out awful movies. But the way she treated Pugh says she doesn’t hold the door open for other women. I’m really torn on how to feel about OW.

      • Thinking says:

If she makes good movies, she’ll be fine career-wise.

Hopefully, she doesn’t make any stinkers.

      • zazzoo says:

        You mean worse than DWD?

      • Thinking says:

I suppose….it looks like the latest movie was bad.

I feel she’ll get a couple of more chances, though. There are a lot of terrible movies made by men, and for some reason I still keep seeing movies directed by them. If she can raise her own financing, I feel she would be able to stay afloat.

That said, I have no interest in being one of those people who sees her movies. I saw the trailer with Styles’s acting in it, and I was like “nah” at the thought of seeing it.

    • Lucy2 says:

It actually ended up more than doubling its budget at the box office, so it wasn’t a big flop.

I had high hopes for it with early previews and liking her previous film, but thought it was just OK. Lots of male directors have certainly gotten far more chances though, so we’ll see.

      • zazzoo says:

I imagine the all the free publicity helped. I watched for free on streaming, but only out of curiosity following all the drama. It was actually fun to watch, but unfortunately it didn’t know what it was about. It didn’t try not to rip off Stepford Wives, but didn’t really follow through with a take home message, either.

  19. Hilla says:

Has anyone read ‚The Idea of You‘ by Robinne Lee?

I stumbled upon it a few weeks back and reading that the story was basically based on a Harry Styles character made me wonder if there are parallels to this story (though obviously completely by chance since the book was published in 2017).

    • Fwiw says:

I think of that book every time I read about these two, except for that the female character in that book was more likeable than OW. (Although I have always been biased against her as a friend went to HS with her and didn’t have very nice things to say).

  20. Lady Luna says:

It was such a weird pairing. I’m not really surprised this didn’t last.

  21. ThatsNotOkay says:

Every part of this story is super messy. And no way is their split “amicable.” I’m sure she’s devastated. She was dancing (terribly) with her daughter (who wasn’t into it as her mother just flipped her hair around and hopped in place like someone out of a terrible ‘80s movie) at his concert two days ago. Last ditch effort to keep him? But imo he was over it when the DWD promotion started and all the sh*t hit the fan as her lies were exposed and her insane ex-fiancée’s antics hit the gossip pages.

In all honesty, he probably dumped her when he learned she hadn’t invented her “special dressing” just for him.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

I made the mistake of going down the breakup rabbit hole on Twitter. According to some poster, the concert was her last gasp effort to keep him hooked. The poster alleged she’d been banned from his concerts but snuck in with her kids with James Cordon’s help. According to the poster, Olivia brought the kids as a buffer. Surely she wouldn’t be bounced if she had her kids with her. Of course, she was eventually spotted by security and escorted out. Wild. (I doubt any of that happened, but that thread was too crazy not to read. His fans really didn’t like her.)

      • ThatsNotOkay says:

If true, that would be truly bonkers. And it sounds too bonkers to be true!

      • Kebbie says:

That sounds like something one of his lunatic fans would make up. They’re crazy and they hated Olivia. They’ve been coming up with insane stories like that for the last two years.

If you wanted to keep a man in his 20s hooked, wouldn’t you use your sex appeal rather than remind him that you have two kids and a custody battle brewing?

  22. Virginfangirl says:

One only had to hear the accounts from the nanny to see that Olivia’s husband was a bit psycho. So my guess is that there marriage was hanging on by a thread when she met Harry. Maybe Harry felt like he was rescuing her. She certainly used Harry to get out of that marriage.
Is Harry to blame for it not working out? I don’t see that conclusion as obvious. So he said he was single and kept their rs professional at professional events. I can think of many good reasons for that.

To me he walked into the shit show. A woman in a combative rs with her ex. Two kids that are probably going through some shit because of their parents toxic break up. In the end it all probably effected their rs.

  23. Veruca Salty says:

This relationship always had an expiration date, amirite? I think everyone is more surprised that it lasted as long as it did. I’m a huge fan of HS and I honestly don’t mind OW, despite all the bad press leading up to the film premiere and all the Florence Pugh drama. I can see why ppl who don’t follow them closely would be annoyed or have not so positive opinions about the two of them. But this relationship was never gonna lead into a long-term commitment leading to an engagement let alone a marriage. You’d think OW would’ve known that. She’s made herself look foolish house shopping in London, following HS all over his world tour, dancing maniacally during them and holding onto his Mum (while in Manchester – I was there!!). But who knows what went on behind closed doors between them. In some ways, I feel bad for her. I think HS was smitten with her at one point, a majority of the songs on “Harry’s House” is about her!! So he must’ve given her a different idea of the relationship and the future of it than what the public saw from his side.

    • Beach says:

I’m not a fan of Harry’s, but I’m pretty sure I read that he finished almost his entire album in 2020. If songs are about her, it’ll probably be on his next album.

      • Veruca Salty says:

That’s partially true. It was finished in 2021 and they were already together by the time production wrapped on the album. There are many songs on there that are obviously about her, even if it’s a line or two. Like “Cinema”, “Music for a Sushi Restaurant”, “Late Night Talking”, etc.

  24. mycatlovestv says:

I’ve been reading that some smooching between Flo and Harry may have contributed to the break. That doesn’t make sense to me since the snog happened BEFORE Olivia hopped on Harry’s train. But still, that narrative is out there. I can see how that could cause a messy on-set environment, tho.

    • Snarkle says:

I look forward to Harry’s next album and the lyrics. His last one has many songs related to his last ex. Should be interesting.

      • Veruca Salty says:

His current album already has a few songs about Olivia! But yeah, the next one should be interesting. “Fine Line” was mostly about Camille Rowe, I believe.

  25. Thinking says:

Despite his age, I thought this might last longer.

How naive I am …whoops! Haha.

  26. Thinking says:

She seems to invite a certain amount of (PR) drama into her life.

Even though she’s very beautiful and could get a man of any age by looks alone, I’m now thinking she was a little lucky a 28 year old was willing to enter that kind of drama zone when she needed a distraction from whatever weirdness was going on in her partnership with Sudeikis.

  27. jferber says:

I don’t think it’s fair to say Olivia will blow up the angle of the amicable split. Maybe she will and maybe she won’t. We don’t know yet. I am watching their movie and it is so scary to me, I don’t think I’ll finish it (one hour in). I think Harry’s acting is not good in it at all (the rest of the actors were excellent). In contrast, Harry’s movie My Policeman is SO wonderful. He acted the hell out of that and I’d highly recommend it. I wish Olivia and Harry the best. I hope they can remain friends.

  28. Jaded says:

Wasn’t she blathering on about how she and Jason were planning to marry and then *BOOM*, she’s out the door with the family’s favourite salmon salad to take to Harry’s hotel room. The whole thing stinks of rotten eggs. She and Jason have little kids, this is sooooo selfish and unfair to put them through this kind of public gong show. I think Harry dumped her because it just became too much drama and too draining emotionally. She strikes me as an emotional vampire and Jason strikes me as a manipulative drama queen, so Harry noped out in favour of untangling himself from all the nonsense to focus on his career in peace.

    • Hell Nah! says:

Jaded, I cannot tell you how loud and long I laughed at your comment. I’m laughing still. Everything you’ve said is Gold. THANK YOU!!

    • ChillinginDC says:

What you said. I bet it’s more like he was like girl you are messy and I want nothing to do with this. She and Jason deserve each other.

  29. Normades says:

I pretty much thought they were done already during the whole DWD fiasco but didn’t want to add another layer of dramz. His body language at the time said it all.

  30. Aly says:

I was honestly expecting them to last another year lol. The timing of this break up reminds of what someone on here said in one of the previous articles – Harry dates strategically. He dated Taylor Swift when he was trying to familiarize himself with American audience. He dated French hipster model Camille Rowe when he wanted to shed that boy bander image and be taken more seriously as a musician. And he dated his female director when he wanted to be a movie star. Now that he knows his movie career has no future no wonder it fizzled out.

I’m not trying to paint Olivia as victim or anything. She knew what she was doing. She willingly risked her career and reputation for this manchild probably because he represented some sort of fantasy for her. Maybe it was her teenage dream to date a popstar? Maybe she was pleased to get with a guy that has huge female fanbase? Whatever it was, it was clearly not meant to last. Hopefully, this will allow Olivia to focus on her kids and give them much needed emotional support.

  31. Tina Loman says:

This is shocking said no one. Her style has been awful, but I may watch Booksmart now. I’ve been watching since they started up. I like Harry Styles and I don’t mind the jumpsuits as much as everyone else.

    • sunny says:

BookSmart is really funny and wonderful. DWD was a half-baked, intellectually lazy mess which showed lack of understanding of the feminist ideas it was trying to engage with. It will be interesting to see what she directs next.

This breakup doesn’t seem like a shock given busy schedules, them being at different stages in their lives, and the amount of media attention on them that came with their mess of a project and OW’s courting of media attention.

    • Zoochy says:

Booksmart is good, which is why this whole Don’t Worry Darling drama is so bizarre.

  32. Zoochy says:

    She’ll date Tom Brady next.

  33. jferber says:

Zoochy, that is a very interesting idea. I think he’ll go for someone younger and with no real career of her own–malleable and willing to do it all Tom’s way. I think Olivia is way too complex, smart, ambitious and assertive for him. I’d like to see Olivia with Pete once his relationship with Emily is through. I’d also like to see Pete with Martha and Lizzo. I don’t know how he became first choice for rebound boyfriend, but he seems so easy-going and funny that he’s a natural in that role. I know Lizzo is dating someone else now. I hope that works for her. She is AMAZING.

  34. Lens says:

This has been a public relations nightmare on Olivia’s part since the beginning. It has made her seem so unprofessional and messed up. Hopefully she’ll keep her love life quiet and private from now on. Here’s hoping.

  35. Stef says:

I’m a big Olivia fan and actually glad to see this relationship over. He was a fun, young jump off from her unhappy relationship and I don’t blame her for going for it.

She’s been beat up a lot in the press in the past few months and it seems a bit harsh. Women are always judged so much more harshly than men, it’s gross.

Looking forward to what she does next!

    • Delphine says:

I met her years ago when she was married to Tau Ruspoli and she was actually really nice. I was around her for a few weeks through his filmmakers coop.

  36. Bread and Circuses says:

I have come to distrust anything about this story that sounds like Olivia Wilde’s version. I think she’s a covert narcissist and can’t help lying to make herself sound perfect, even when she’s very obviously in the wrong (i.e. don’t abandon your family to bang your employee on company time).

  37. Emily_C says:

~Oh poor widdwe Harry~ If the genders were reversed, everyone would be screaming that he was a homewrecker. I don’t trust him an inch. I don’t like Olivia Wilde either, but give me a damn break with all this Harry Styles defense.

    • Kebbie says:

I actually like Harry Styles, but yeah people making it out like she’s some conniving villain and he’s the innocent boy that finally saw through her deception….please 🙄

  38. ML says:

I don’t particularly like OW, AND I am convinced that she’s getting far too harsh criticism. Via the traitorous nanny, who was pro JS (!), we learned that JS had a drinking problem, scared the women in his life, was controlling and displayed more than a few red flags. Instead of understanding why OW might want to leave, she’s being admonished for not staying for the sake of her kids?! Then because she jumped into a relationship with a younger, more famous foreigner, she’s being called out because after 2 years it didn’t work. HS barely supported her and he has some rabid fans with strong ideas, so I agree with those of you mentioning that maybe he’s not entirely blameless here.

    • Kebbie says:

      Agree with all of that.

The nanny is very “pick-me” when it comes to how she talks about Jason Sudeikis. He drunkenly threw her out of the house in the middle of the night and she hates Olivia? And why is she so gleeful that Olivia and Harry broke up? She’s a shady weirdo.

    • Pilar says:

Foreigner? Lol you are acting like Harry styles is an illegal immigrant. He’s literally the embodiment of white male privilege.
You have some good points but there’s a lot of hyperbole in your post with the embellishments of JS behaviour in a break up situation where he is being cheated on being read as his entire person and a justification for OW behaviour. Neither JS nor OW looked good in the nanny’s story. They both come across as self centred and messy.
And tbh majority of the criticism towards OW is her own doing as it relates to her behaviour at work. The domestic drama I do agree that she gets treated extra harshly because she is a woman who left her family.
When it comes to the nanny her behaviour is kinda trash but domestic workers are treated like crap by rich people and both Jason and Wilde seem like terribly self centred people who used and discarded the nanny callously. Also its sort of ironic that you mentioned that the nanny seem kinda pick me when that’s literally OW entire MO…

  39. Cava 24 says:

I think it just petered out. She had multiple dramas on multiple fronts, some of which she fanned the flames of and she is still out there trying to sell the idea that she’s a feminist leader in HW (see her speech at the awards sponsored by Elle). You can like what she has to say about the industry without liking the way she does things. Other female directors manage to get their work done and make better films without needing the level of attention she does – the multiple covers for DWD, the recent spate of red carpets, the endless pap walks. It is easier to support someone when you think a messy situation they have is a one-off but she has so many things that people sort of forget some of them.
