Princess Charlene wore Akris & Terrence Bray for Monaco’s National Day

Saturday, November 19th was Monaco’s National Day, where the Grimaldis are supposed to assemble for a church service, a balcony wave and then an evening gala. Last year, Princess Charlene skipped all of that because she was still dreadfully ill from her ENT infection, and she was (at that time) being sent off to a Swiss facility to recover further. It seemed like a big deal to Prince Albert that Charlene wasn’t well enough to attend, but in the past year, it honestly appears as if everything has gotten a lot better between them. Charlene seems noticeably relieved to be back in Monaco with her children. She’s agreed to regular appearances with Albert. And she was impeccably behaved during all of the National Day events this year.

For the daytime stuff, Charlene wore a bonkers Akris coat which looks like a religious robe of some kind. It’s crisp white and it goes all the way to her ankles. For the evening gala, Charlene wore a gorgeous blue Terrence Bray gown which looked great on her. Charlene is sticking with that close-cropped platinum-blonde hairstyle too, and it looks soooo good on her. She’s really rocking it. Overall, this is the happiest and healthiest she’s looked in years. The twins look happy too – little Gabriella and Jacques are adorable in their National Day gear. Albert and Charlene even got Jacques a tiny little military uniform.

I don’t want to alarm anyone but wtf happened to Andrea Casiraghi? He used to be so good-looking and now… holy yikes.

She really does look wonderful. It seems as though they’ve settled into a nice groove. I hope that she is truly well and enjoying children. It’s nice to see that her baby girl’s bangs are growing out quite nice as well.

I don’t mind the white coat. I think it’s weird to see a 7-year old in a military dictator’s uniform, but I don’t follow this family, so maybe this is a regular thing.

  3. Emmi says:

Well, since Andrea was brought up, I’m just going to say it. Nobody in that immediate family is aging particularly well. Maybe because they’re mostly very slender and have spent too much time outside without sunscreen? Just a wild guess.

I am old enough to remember when Prince Albert was very good looking and dashing. Really. We didn’t realize how much he was going to take after his dad! The ladies of this family seem to age beautifully and the men turn into ordinary middle aged guys.

    • BeanieBean says:

I think they’re all smokers, which doesn’t help.

Charlene is looking happy and healthy! I’m so glad to see her looking so well after her health issues over the past few years. And I still love her pixie-cut, after so many hair disasters. This look really suits her.

That white coat is horrible. If it was knee length it’d be a good look, esp. with black wide legged pants. I have to agree about the blue dress, just lovely. And I do love the pixie on her.

She finally looks “okay”, not as sad as she’s always seemed, kids look happier, too. Maybe some “normalcy/routine” (as much as you can get with the Grimaldis) was needed.

I’m one of the crowd that thinks there is definitely a “contract” involved with these two, ie: “You do all of the royal/national events, you get a private residence and unlimited time with the kids. I will also deposit an undisclosed sum in an account in *your* name for each event/year you perform these events looking “happy”.”

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I really don’t think there’s any real love or any affection btwn these two at all.

As arranged marriages go, that’s not a bad bargain, if you love doing public events and can create an effective platform.

Re: Andrea – you don’t wear formal white tie and tails and then take off your tie. Smarten up! You’re part of a princely family – look it!

  7. D says:

She looks so much better than she did even a few months ago. I hope that she is truly getting the help she needs and is feeling well all around.

Andrea has looked terrible for at least a decade. His looks faded really early on in his 20s. Pierre is still ok but I’m sure it will go downhill. The women remain beautiful in that family but the men just lose all their looks as adults.

I agree about the men in this family, it is the Monaco version of the Windsor curse, and is the inevitable result of centuries of inbreeding…inescapable. Charlene looks lovely and healthy, but do a see some Botox Blink?

    • Isabella says:

Andrea, alcoholism? He has that look.

  8. Zut Alors says:

Why does Albert look like the doorman from The Jeffersons?

  9. karkopolo says:

She looks relatively healthy & happy, so I hope she is. That blue looks gorgeous on her. Very sleek & elegant.

I feel that Charlene is always trying to speak to us with what we can see. The same way the hair was a cry for help, I find that these outfits say something about her relation with albert. The high collar and the long outfits that both go down to the floor are a sign of something. I interpret this as a lack of intimacy between husband and wife, but i’m no expert?? bring in the fashion expert analyzers!

    • Lemons says:

I don’t find these clothing choices to be about Albert, but more so about her relationship with public events in general. She probably isn’t comfortable with anything more form-fitting at this stage and is likely still recovering. I don’t blame her. These past couple of years have been tough healthwise.

  11. TheOriginalMia says:

She looks good. Healthy and happy. I don’t mind the white coat length because she’s tall and she accessorized with the black boots and hat.

  12. Chaine says:

The child’s uniform looks ridiculous, I mean this country is the size of a postage stamp, does it have an actual military?

  13. Jessica says:

I agree on kids wearing military uniforms. I guess that will be his uniform when he grows up?? I thought it was weird when H and M did it at their wedding especially since some of the page boys weren’t even British.

  14. GingerBiscuit says:

I’m happy that Charlene seems to have her health back both mentally and physically. It was so touch and go there for awhile, so it’s lovely to see her looking happy and healthy. The kids are so cute too!

  15. SussexFan says:

I dunno, but Albert needs to get himself to a new tailor. And Charlene looks like some kind of fin de siecle priestess in that white gown. She needs to show some legs.

Andrea Casiraghi: Drugs? Or some malady? I don’t see his problem as getting older. He’s wasting away.

And little Prince Jacques should lose that uniform, and all other uniforms, until he does his national service.

  16. tamsin says:

Does anybody else think it’s a terrible idea to dress a little boy like a toy soldier? And why is Prince Albert himself so often dressed like a nutcracker? Unless of course those military-like outfits are national costumes. It’s not like he is CIC of any army. I believe Monaco has no army. The little girl is dressed like a mini-adult. That’s how victorians used to dress their children.
