Prince Harry will be in London on the 30th for the WellChild Awards

Towards the end of August, Prince Harry’s office announced that he would travel to New York for UN Climate Week, which is next week. He’s booked and busy for the trip – he will have meetings and events in and around UN Climate Week, plus The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, Travalyst, Archewell and more. I’m convinced that he will actually have meetings AT the United Nations. Well, after Harry wraps up his events in New York, he’s flying to London for The WellChild Awards on September 30. WellChild announced this on their social media, and of course Becky English at the Mail is treating it like it’s her exclusive:

Prince Harry will return to the UK later this month to attend a high-profile charity event in London. It has been announced that the Duke of Sussex will be a guest at the annual WellChild Awards in his role as the charity’s patron.

The national charity for seriously ill children is one of the few UK-based organisations that the prince kept links with after his acrimonious departure from royal duties and move to the US. He chose to remain in the position, which he has held for 16 years, when his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, asked him to step down from his other royal patronages as a now non-working member of the family.

There was no mention of his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, accompanying him. According to some reports she has vowed never to set foot in the UK again, and when she flew into the UK earlier this year when the couple visited Nigeria she didn’t even set foot outside the airport.

With the King currently based in Scotland but returning to London regularly for his ongoing cancer treatment, it could give an opportunity for father and son to actually meet in private. However the King has a major engagement in Scotland just two days before Harry’s when he and Queen Camilla visit the Scottish Parliament to mark its 25th anniversary. This suggests he could well remain north of the border while his son is in the country. The last time they saw each other was in February when it was announced that the King had cancer and the prince flew from the US to see him briefly. When he returned again in May, however, the King was too busy to meet, although His Majesty did offer him alternative accommodation in one of the royal properties, contrary to reports. Harry chose to stay in a hotel instead.

[From The Daily Mail]

This actually feels like Harry boxing in his father once again. Sources close to King Charles couldn’t shut up about the birthday-wishes social media posts for Harry and how it was an “olive branch” and “the ball is now in Harry’s court.” Harry’s like, let’s see if you really mean that. My guess is that it’s the same play from May: Harry contacts his father’s office and asks for a meeting, and now the proverbial ball is in Charles’s court. If Charles refuses a meeting, Harry will release another statement saying, in essence, my dad’s too “busy” to meet with me. It’s interesting that the awards are on a Monday as well – I wonder when Harry will fly to the UK, and I wonder if a possible meeting was discussed between Charles and Harry in the “birthday phone call.” Ten bucks says that Charles is going to try to get Harry to come to Balmoral again.

Also: “He chose to remain in the position, which he has held for 16 years, when his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, asked him to step down from his other royal patronages.” Keep in mind that WellChild is not a “royal patronage,” it’s a private charity and Harry has loved spending time with those kids for years and years. Also keep in mind that all of the royal patronages which were taken from Harry were actually really mad about it, they wanted to keep Harry as their patron but QEII and her courtiers wanted to “punish” Harry. They thought punishing Harry was more important than charity work and service.

I do not remember Meghan stating you would never set foot in the UK again. If she does not, it is her prerogative and she has cause not to. Harry is one hard working young man.

    • Afken says:

She has never said this, Rebecca English is lying again, using “other reports” which also have no source, to give her plausible deniability. They all say this never stepped foot out of the airport thing but they never explain WHY should would’ve left the airport on the way to Nigeria. To do what? It was a connecting flight. These people are silly.

      • sevenblue says:

One of the royal reporters said that quoting Meghan like she interviewed her. A few hours later, H&M announced they were going to visit UK for their charities (the time QE2 died). She didn’t even delete the article. All they do is lie.

    • aftershocks says:

As well, I personally do not believe QE-II was behind stripping Harry of his royal patronages. In her 90s and increasingly ill, I am quite sure the Queen slept a lot like most 90+ years old humans. In addition, her courtier staff likely kept her in the dark about many things, including actual truths about her family and current events. As Harry told us, they aggressively prevented her from seeing him and Meghan, which is why H&M worked with the Queen and a family insider (possibly Eugenie) to secretly visit the Queen in early 2022.

Harry is known to have been QE-II’s favorite grandson. She publicly stated that the Sussexes were in her words (and in her heart), “much beloved family members.” The iconic picture of QE-II and Prince Philip greeting their great-grandson, Archie, two days after his birth (with Harry, Doria and Meghan) is an indelible image that does not lie.

The Queen’s courtier staff in her final years, were mostly working on behalf of Charles. By that point, the Queen had ceded her minimal power to her heir. Especially after Prince Philip’s death, the ailing Queen probably fairly much did as she was told by her closest staff and by her (i.e., Chuck’s) courtiers.

  2. I love this for Harry. This charity is very lucky to have him and they know it. I have a feeling the Harry is being snubbed will be starting. Chuckled complained about wanting to get to see Harry well let’s see what happens. My guess is the crap articles about who snubbed who shall commence.

    • Sunnyside up says:

The press seem to forget that some of us have memories and we have seen it all before.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

They also seem to forget that we know it wasn’t likely the Queen but CLUCK as Shadow Regent (assume that by the time the Secretaries Coup of 2017 happened and Edward Young replaced Christopher Geidt, that Cluck was driving the bus almost entirely at that point), that caused the Cenotaph snub, the RAVEC nonsense, as well as forcing him to relinquish his royal patronages.

The charities Harry still works with are ones that he either started himself, or had long standing connections/affiliations with outside of his “Royal” assigned patronages. Sentebale, Invictus Games, Archewell, all his; Wellchild, HALO Trust, these are his (and the latter was supported by his late mum as well).

The press like to obfuscate and lie about it, but “the North Remembers”.

  3. Pinkosaurus says:

I love how often H&M are leaving the house these days, doing great work.

As an aside, anyone know when the next phase of Harry’s lawsuits against the tabloids is scheduled? He looks great in a polo but I love his sharp suits!

    • Advisor2U says:

The case against The Sun is set to take place in Februari next year. They say the court dates will not clash with IG25 in Canada, which also takes place in Februari of next year.

  4. Jay says:

“However, the King has a major engagement in Scotland just two days before Harry’s…This suggests he could well remain north of the border while his son is in the country.”

Gee, it’s not like he has a helicopter that could make that trip within two days! If he wanted to see his youngest son, he would…but I think he is kind of afraid. I believe he would rather avoid seeing Harry – thus the meeting in February was cut short.

    • Jais says:

Right? He has an engagement a whole 2 days before Harry arrives is not doing much to convey that Charles is too busy to see his son. And yeah, it’s said that Charles doesn’t lie confrontation. What’s Camilla’s schedule like, I wonder? Cuz you know she’s going to try to be in the mtg or outside the door with a glass held up to her ear.

    • Chrissy says:

SMH. What a weak, pathetic toddler excuse for a father!

  5. aquarius64 says:

Wonderful for Harry to stay with this charity. The BM will wash, rinse, and repeat for the snubs.

  6. Inge says:

He always shows up, either in person or via zoom. Good King Harry. WellChild have a great patron in him(as do Scotty’s Little Soldiers etc)

    • Debbie says:

I actually laughed when the article described Harry as a “non-working” royal when he is busy doing work for his charities and the Sussexes’ company. Whereas Kate and William — who are often assumed to be “working” royals, have not actually worked in months. Some joke.

  7. StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

Unlike what papers are trying to sell, im sure people have a lot of love for harry as they still have so much love for diana. This only breaks our hearts to feel he is being shut out from his family which in return would only make real people welcome him even more to make him feel loved every time he sets foot home. Again, brf being played by their own stupidity.

  8. Feebee says:

I wouldn’t mind at all if Harry didn’t contact his father’s office for a meeting he knows wouldn’t happen. They have his phone number.

  9. bisynaptic says:

Harry’s dedication is commendable. I wonder what he would do, if Charles were to insist he go to Scotland.

  10. sevenblue says:

Contrast this with Kate briefing the royal rota that she is cancelling a royal engagement as its patron in order to make them not to expect yearly visit from her. Of course, the charities didn’t want to drop Harry since he has been one of the most consistent royal patrons in that family. I don’t remember W or K making consistent visits to their charities even before Kate got sick. They are keeping themselves busy with pseudo projects that don’t project a tangible result even after years.

  11. Amy Bee says:

Becky is doing a lot of revisionist history in her piece.

  12. Louise177 says:

Harry almost always attends the Wellchild Awards. So I really doubt he’s going to prove a point to Charles.

  13. Cassie says:

Yep our Harry sure does rock a suit .

Must say I prefer when he sneaks in unexpectedly but hopefully he has good protection for this event .

He is so wonderful with these kids and their families and they love him .

  14. MrsCope says:

And I’m guessing from there he’ll take his international trip with close friends? Nice, Harry, very nice! I love how they’re moving these days!

  15. Chelsea says:

I had a feeling when those dumb ‘Harry wants to come back’ stories came out at the end of August that he would be in the UK for the Well Child Awards soon and would you look at that: he was scheduled to come to the awards around 30 days after those stories came out. I bet it’s a TOTAL coincidence that RAVEC makes him give 30 days notice before he can be considered for security, right?

Anyway, I’m happy he’s still able to do this. It’s very obvious how much joy he gets from working with this charity and it’s not hard to see why; they do great work and those kids and their families who’ve been through so much really appreciate what Harry does for them and they light up like Christmas trees when they see him so as always I’m really looking forward to the pics and videos from the awards.

    • Jais says:

Yeah, I think since this has been announced ahead of time, Harry would have requested security through RAVEC. I’m guessing they granted it but who knows.

  16. ShazBot says:

They just announced that Balmoral is open to the public for tours as of Oct 1 so if Charles stays up there, he’ll be at Birkhall and Harry would have to go there.

  17. Eurydice says:

I love the contrast between the old world and the new world. Every day, the RF and BM rehash the same old stories about Harry. And every day, Harry is doing something new and moving into the future.

  18. s808 says:

Harry is BOOKED! Tbh, he might be the one too busy to meet.

  19. swaz says:

Prince Harry is all booked and busy 😍that’s what you call a WORKING ROYAL 😍

  20. sueinorleans says:

I saw a headline yesterday that said something like “After birthday greetings Harry is returning to England!!” I wondered what the hell but wasn’t about to click and give them a look. They try so hard to make everything Harry does all about William and Charles. And he just keeps living his life.

  21. Bamaborn says:

Raise your hand if you think Prince Harry has seen the pics we’ve seen of his brother and will spend some time trying to reach out to him?

    • sevenblue says:

lol. What? The same brother who regularly briefs about how much he hates him? Why would he do that when he knows everything he does is gonna get leaked to the royal rota by Wiliam? Harry said “space” and he is sticking to that for his and his family’s sake.

      • Bamaborn says:

Yes, as awful as he is, he’s still his blood and Harry has shown he’s a bigger man than all of them. Not saying it will be reciprocated, but can see him trying.

      • Jaded says:

@Bamaborn — blood has nothing to do with it. I was estranged from my older sister for years before she died and it was actually the smartest thing I could have done. She was a malignant narcissist who took everything out on me as her favourite punching bag since I was a toddler. I finally drew a line in the sand. This is exactly what Harry has done with William. Keeping someone like that in your life simply because of blood ties is just asking for more abuse.

      • Advisor2U says:

Yep, and since Prince Harry openly, and in front of a 17+ Million worldwide audience, put Willian at bay during the Oprah interview in 2021, with his famaous hand gesture S.P.A.C.E., William turned it around and started screeming – per his media lackeys – how he hates Harry and how HE was the first to snubbed Harry. Willy never recovered from that public (get lost, I’m over you, idiot) snub by Harry, lol.

    • Interested Gawker says:

I can’t imagine that’s in any way whatsoever happening.

      It’s still S P A C E for the Sussexes and the Waleses.

    • HeatherC says:

For what? To give him tips on how to properly grow and maintain a beard?

  22. QuiteContrary says:

Harry just has so much heart.

Imagine William actually flying this distance for a charity. For a championship football game, maybe, but not for an organization for children.

As for Charles, he likely will continue to be the dogsh*t father he’s always been.

  23. B says:

If Chuckie or his handlers were smart they would retract their orders to their pet press and pause pumping out the usual toxicity and hate that accompanies a Harry visit. They should just ignore his visit to the UK entirely. Do they really want to make the public aware that Harry is going to be in the UK and risk a repeat of the backlash from May? We all know Chuck is going to use the most ridiculously transparent excuse not to see his son.

But neither Chuckie or his handlers are smart so I will prepare myself to laugh when the firm and press gets hysterical and feral and unleash their pettiest antics. Which will then blow up in their face….again.

  24. LRB says:

I was lucky enough to attend the awards a few years ago. H&M spent most of the evening in private with the winners and their families. We had a fairly boring dinner. Then they arrived in the main hall at the end there was the prize giving and then Harry made an amazing speech. They made it all about the children and their families and carers, not about themselves. It is a memory I will treasure even though I was sat at the back and could hardly see them!

  25. KC says:

Real question for British celebitches: if the charities that had Harry as a patron were upset to lose him, was there some reason he couldn’t then just “sign-on” as a regular patron? I get he couldn’t do that for the military stuff, but don’t charities also have non-royal patrons too? I guess I don’t *totally understand how this formal patronage system works. Are there actual patronage contracts or some other kind of agreements that have become standard over time or is it just customary? I don’t get how one patronage could be as a royal and one as a private person unless it’s an organization (like the military) that is technically under the control of the government.

    • tamsin says:

I’m not British, but it’s my understanding that many national organizations have royal patrons and so the removal of one royal patron would be replaced by another royal patron. Harry was patron of one of the rugby leagues, and I believe he was replaced by Kate?
I notice that WellChild mentions Harry’s financial support. If I remember correctly, Sentebale got a huge chunk, and WellChild a much smaller chunk of Harry’s advance for Spare.
