Lady Gaga “I’d rather die on stage than walk off” for passing out

Lady GaGa performs live in concert at Glasgow's SECC as part of her Monster Ball Tour
Lady Gaga has spoken out about a near-fainting incident while she was performing in New Zealand earlier this month (video here). She had to sit and lay down at several points while singing “Bad Romance”. Her response was defiant and kind of worrisome as she said she’d “rather die on stage than walk off because I was going to pass out.” With that kind of work ethic and disregard for her own health, it’s no wonder that Gaga is getting sick. About a month before that mid March show, she postponed two U.S. dates due to exhaustion. She was even said to have collapsed before an Indiana show, and admitted to feeling dizzy and “having trouble breathing.” The New Zealand incident she chalks up to “jet lag,” though:

Days after crumpling to the floor during a New Zealand concert, Lady Gaga explained her alarming performance.

“I was so jet lagged,” she told the Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O on Friday. “I passed out about three times on stage that night but I got myself to the floor. I’d rather die on stage than walk off because I was going to pass out.”

This isn’t the first time that Gaga’s whirlwind rise to superstardom has taken its toll. Back in January, she was forced to cancel several shows, citing exhaustion.

One source fears that the pop star is suffering from the stress of her staggering fame. “She’s on the verge of tipping,” says the source. “She’s only human.”

Still, the singer insisted on the radio show that she’s feeling “completely rejuvenated and excited.”

[From People]

This happened to me once when I took spin class and didn’t eat enough ahead of time. I had to be helped to sit down and given a Gatorade. I’ve also had that horrible sinking faint feeling after giving blood. It’s scary and it really takes your body a few hours to adjust after that. Gaga has last a lot of weight recently and she’s obviously under stress. The thing is, she’s not saying that she needs to take a break or that she realizes she’s pushing herself too hard, she’s blaming external factors and saying that she’ll push herself as hard as she needs to in order to perform. Gaga needs to slow down or she’s really going to need medical attention the next time.

  1. Love this looney bitch!

  2. GatsbyGal says:

Poor Lady Gaga. She’s so infatuated with this otherworldly image she’s created for herself, that it’s almost like she refuses to acknowledge that she’s still human.

  3. ogechi says:

she should get well soon. I kinda like her.

  4. dizzybenny says:

is ”jet lag” the new ”i was drunk of my a**”?
she pushing hard because she was able to stretch her 15 minutes of fame to 30.
she’s doing all this with 1 CD right?
i know she republish the first cd with new songs on it but does that count has a second CD?
will she do a Bowie of herself and go with a different persona for the next CD?

  5. scotchy says:

great, she should take a break and never come back.

  6. C-DUB says:

She left her heart and her head on the dance floor! Work it bitch! Love her.

  7. Lilias says:

She really should take a break-or at least get enough rest in between gigs.

You’ll never work at your best if you don’t get enough rest.

  8. snowball says:

    Pancake boob alert!

She is a teeny person already, if she’s losing weight, that’s not a good thing.

You’d think her managers and the people around her would at least have some control and could smuck her upside the head or at least make her drink a Powerade and eat a granola bar a few times during the show.

That quote was dumb and obviously directed at her little monsters. Like they need to be any crazier. I like Gaga, but she needs to take it down a notch some days.

  9. Lady Nightshade says:

It is not about being tired. Do you see college students passing out all over campus from pulling all-nighters. Celebrities get ‘exhaustion’ because they don’t eat and exercise way to much!

Somebody tell her to eat a pizza and she’ll be fine!

  10. Erin says:

Lady Nightshade, exactly. This bitch just needs to start eating sandwiches again. Obviously, all the “you ugly” talk got to her.

  11. Ali says:

I hope she’ll be OK. It happens to me too, and it’s freaky. She does need to eat more, I hope someone cares enough for her to make her take care of herself…

  12. waldemar says:

Those breasts are not flattering at all.

My guess is money has to be made here, which is the reason why her people are not stopping this. The shows she gives are hilariously expensive (they look like it) and her ticket prices are not that high. You pay more for a Britney show and those where cheaper to produce. Is has been in the news that she/they hardly make any profit. Her shows were getting bigger and bigger. She is now gives her shows in stadiums. I think she/they will rake it in after she finished them.

  13. hatsumomo says:

This video is like a week old, Im surprised, I thought if cb didn’t cover it, she wasn’t going to at all. When me and my man saw it, we laughed our ases of.

Lady:’There’s no encore tonight bitches, mama needs a nap!’

dizzybenny, theres two separate albums. I got the both of ’em in vinyl.

  14. gg says:

Girlfriend needs to eat something and rest or she will do herself in. She says she’s been on the road for over a year and has no home. Gaga, get an apartment and a bed and stay in it for awhile. And eat.

  15. christina says:

I love Lady Gaga (who doesn’t?) but I agree with GastbyGirl talented and beautiful artist are still human- give it a break

  16. Steeze says:

all i have to say is i dont hate her, i hate people who like her. she works hard, seems to genuinely care about her fans. however what she produces is pure crap and whoever says they love her are completely lacking in any sort of taste level…

  17. canadianchick says:

She needs to eat more, I bet she purposely eats like a bird so she can fit her crazy couture.

  18. Beth says:

I love Gaga’s music but I can’t stand her. Also the re-release of her cd was a true second album. Usually re-releases have 2 or 3 new songs, maybe dvd extras. Gaga’s cd has 10 new songs and you can buy the new cd seperately or with the initial cd.

  19. Shane says:

    Dizzybenny,

I’m no fan of Lady Gaga but she’s definitely no flash in the pan. I believe she made over a hundred million last year. lol

  20. jover says:

I’ll give her props for her work ethic but if the music is crap – and sorry but her music is pop crap – she’ll make bank but the “music” is destined for the trash bin. Contrast Lady GaGa with the resurgence of Hendrix – no comparison obviously, but there’s music and then there is music.

  21. scotchy says:

    @ steeze, i agree with you 100%.
i cannot wait for actual quality in music to make a come back.

  22. Stilett0s says:

@ steeze and jover..I find it funny that Steeze says people that like her obviously have no taste yet you took the time to comment on her…I happen to be a fan of hers and doubt your “taste” in music is anything worth bragging about. If you don’t like her then why waste your time commenting? If you have never heard all of her music other than just what you hear on the radio then you need to stfu because it sounds like an ignorant assumption from people who probably aren’t even old enough to know anything about real music..sit down children and hush

  23. ViktoryGin says:

Her manager and record company wlll turn a blind all as long as revenue is coming in. That’s what always happens. Think Amy Winehouse.

As far as compromised taste. Gaga is pop. Pure and simple, you are going to get nowhere trying to compare to artists of other genres. The quality of her output is only valid within the context of pop which possesses it’s own set of aesthetics. I’m a classically trained musician, and I had to learn a long time ago that comparing the likes of Britney Spears with Mahler was futile and grossly impractical, and even Spears has her usefulness for the study of pop culture.

No, Gaga is no Hendrix…but some historical musicologists will make the case that Hendrix is no Beethoven….so it’s really all about perspective and context.

  24. Elle says:

Friggin’ love her. She’d better stay healthy, thought! I’d be quite sad if anything happened to her!

  25. BReed says:

I have never heard her music: does her music exceed her bizzaro appearance?

  26. irishserra says:

@BReed: I’ve only heard a song or two; nothing remarkable. It’s all been done before.

  27. marchhare says:

Why, exactly, can’t they let her shuffle from this mortal coil?

Too much money invested in making sub-mediocre talent a worldwide phenomenon?

I say work her like the draft horse she is and when she collapses, move on to the next no-talent corporate icon.

Rest-in-pieces you no talent dancing clown.

(“she looks like little animals when she moves” – yeah, two pigs in a sack)

  28. blonk says:

Funny, I’d rather her die onstage too. Hey fake blonde, do you think you could speed it up a bit?

Clears the stage for, maybe, someone with some talent.

  29. Bandie says:

A romanticist to the very end. However not many would consider that romantic these days…
It would be tolerable if she were a fictional character. : /

  30. EmpressJudge says:

The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long. I hope she takes better care of herself. I don’t want to see someone like her burn out
