Sir Idris Elba wore his own label to receive his knighthood from King Charles

Two things can be true at once: the left-behind Windsors love to “colonize” any friend or associate of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex AND Idris Elba was always friendly with King Charles. This week, Idris Elba received his knighthood, his KBE, from King Charles at Windsor Castle. Charles isn’t doing these investitures regularly anymore, so it’s a pretty big deal that Idris got knighted from the king himself. Sir Big Driis!!

So why was Idris knighted? Is it because he deejayed Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding party and he was/is close to Harry? No. I mean, that was probably a factor. But Idris received a scholarship from the then-Prince’s Trust when he was a teenager, and when he became a celebrity and award-winning actor, he became an ambassador for the trust, which is now the King’s Trust.

What’s funny to me is to see the politics of knighthoods at this point – they made David Beckham jump through hoops for years, not to mention all of those loyalty tests where they made him disassociate from Harry & Meghan, whereas Idris got his KBE from… just being a good guy and a good actor, and for helping the King’s Trust pass out grants to underprivileged kids. Now, did they also make Idris do some photo-ops with Charles? For sure. But again, he probably would have done that anyway, knighthood or not. Idris’s lack of neediness paid off.

Fashion notes: Idris wore a suit from his own label, Eve of Winston, for the investiture. It’s an insane piece, especially the bondage-esque vest. His wife Sabrina wore Stella McCartney (it’s terrible, but at least it’s a nice color).

I have been re-watching The Wire one episode a night over the past few weeks with one of my tenants. It is lovely to pause and reflect on the beauty of Iris Elba as Stringer Bell. And my tenant is still baffled that the scrawny little kid Wallace grew up to be the guy in Sinners.

I’m glad of this for him. Being recognized usually feels good, regardless of the source (well generally regardless of the source.) and he’s been friendly with Charles for years so it makes sense Charles did his investiture – I’ve noticed Charles tends to do the “big guns” investitures, the ones that are likely to get more press than others (like this one, and I think he did Beckham’s too.)

And yeah Beckham came across as needy and pathetic bc he was so desperate for one – I think they made him wait even longer for it because of that. Who even knows how much Idris wanted this – but if he did, he played it very well.

Not quite related, but SIR Idris Elba did a DJ set on Black House Radio this week. The juxtaposition makes me giggle.

He is so handsome. He should have been Bond…. Love, love, love the suit.

Charles: “See, I can’t be a racist because I gave this knighthood to Idris Elba” 🙄

Congrats to him for the recognition! He seems like a lovely human and he does good works.

I love that man, his smile, his wife, just everything! And I am totally sure he did not do the begging and prancing around for the royals that Sir David did. Idris Elba is a real one.

He’s absolutely handsome and seems like an interesting guy who follows his own path.
And yes, he’s grateful for the scholarship, which he’s emphasized many times, because it paved the way for him to pursue acting, allowing him to pay for his studies at the prestigious National Youth Music Theatre. So he’ll always be grateful to the Prince Trust, even though the grant is only £1,500, but sometimes that’s enough to get started. That’s why, for years, he’s been very active in running organizations that support young people who can’t afford education.
I don’t think he particularly cared about “sir”, but he was certainly honored when he was offered. It’s not about the sir, but rather the distinction.
I also suspect that Idris knows perfectly well what kind of person (a husband to Diana, a father) Charles was/is, but he separates that from the charitable work, specifically the scholarships, on which he collaborates with the Prince Trust. He’s experienced firsthand how life-changing it can be. And his wife is obviously nasty, because how could she be, since she took such a handsome man from us 🤣
    …and those eyes of his…ugh

Black Elderberry, I hear you. I’ve been lusting after that man for years. Insisting in many comments that HE should be the next James Bond (I still think so). And what a great actor. I loved him in Luther. And he seems like such a good guy, too. But our loss is his wife’s gain. What’s her name, again?

    • BLACK ELDERBERRY says:

Sabrina Dhowre, 37, has a bachelor’s degree, but I don’t know her major. Besides that:
      – she’s a bit of an actress, and has cameo roles in two films, one in 2022 and one in 2025, starring Elba. She’s listed somewhere at the end as an observer.
      – she’s a bit of a model:
      – Elba owns a clothing brand and she works with him, and she’s a businesswoman.
      – they’re also involved in charity programs together: Elba has long supported youth education.

She doesn’t seem to have any great achievements, but Elba has drawn her into his endeavors. She has a pretty face and I assume she’s an intelligent woman, because Elba wouldn’t have it any other way. :))))

Unfortunately, Elba is lost to us (crying)😭

Black Elderberry, thanks for the info. I know they have a little boy together too. All I can say is, if she makes him happy, our sacrifice is not in vain.😑
