I’m stupidly excited for Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel series that’s premiering on Prime July 1. I’ve seen Legally Blonde twice but don’t consider myself a fan (I’m Gen X and it’s more of a Millenial staple). The trailer was just so much fun though and I laughed out loud! Lexi Minetree, Reese Witherspoon’s handpicked successor, has also won me over. She was so bubbly and charismatic on Fallon last week. She said she’s long been compared to Reese, I mean you can see the resemblance, and that she practically manifested this role. She has as much of a Type-A personality as Reese and that’s a compliment. Lexi can also do a great Jennifer Coolidge impression.

At the season one premiere in New York last night Reese wore an off-the-shoulder hot pink lace gown by Monse, styled by Petra Flannery. This dress really works. The poofy shoulders would be dippy if there were any other details pulling focus though. My only complaint is that the skirt seems to be see through. It’s not immodest, I would just like it to be lined.

Lexi, on the other hand, wore a goofy custom baby pink Betsey Johnson gown with little bows at the hips, a corset bustier, bedazzled neckline and an honest-to-God bustle. No girl this is not it. At the Tonight Show Lexi wore Reese’s original premiere gown from 2001, a phenomenal Marc Jacobs hot pink spaghetti strap number with a black mesh overlay. Reese lent it to her and told Fallon that it fit Lexi “like Cinderella’s slipper.” Maybe it would have been too “on the nose” or whatever for Lexi to wear it to this premiere, but it’s so much better than this silly Betsey Johnson number. This dress isn’t even period appropriate! It’s more early to mid-80s than late-90s early 2000s.

Also, Reese brought her Patrick Bateman-looking son, Deacon Phillippe, 22. He just graduated from New York University! It goes so fast and I’m speaking from experience.
