Do you think Zendaya has ever been tempted to tell Law Roach “you know what, I think I’m just going to wear jeans and a t-shirt for this photocall?” I mean, we expect style excellence from her, and Law Roach has absolutely changed the way all actresses dress for promotional tours. But the expectations on them are crazy! I sort of wish Zendaya would actually wear some jeans or Millennial normcore for a few photocalls, just as a style reboot! (She did wear a t-shirt for a Spider-Man photocall, but it was literally part of the same theme-dressing she and Law are obsessed with.)
Anyway, here are some photos of the big Paris photocall for The Odyssey on Tuesday. Zendaya wore an archival 1997 Givenchy (designed by Alexander McQueen), with a Philip Treacy headpiece. This look seemingly had moving parts – at one point, Zendaya removed the exaggerated sleeves (I don’t know what they’re called) and the Treacy headpiece.
Additional fashion IDs… Anne Hathaway wore Prada (I love that dress, such a great color), Charlize Theron wore Tom Ford (by Haider Ackermann) and Lupita Nyong’o wore Armani Prive. Lupita looks fantastic!! Charlize has legs for days.

Zendaya looked great without the headpiece and sleeves. Lupita’s dress was nice. I would have loved Anne’s dress with no embellishments just plain. Charlize Theron is showing who has the longest legs out of the cast .
She looks amazing in anything, but I respectfully disagree. The sleeves and head piece are perfection. She’s wearing actual history and honestly seeing this McQueen look highlighted to show his brilliance made me tear up.

Zendaya is a pretty casual dresser in her day-to-day life so I totally understand taking the opportunity to wear literal art for these premiere’s and photo calls. I think the suit and the headpiece look amazing — this was the perfect setting for them.
She has been KILLING it this press tour. I love that her and Law are about FASHION and not just a pretty dress.
I am so happy we have the year of Zendaya and by extension Law. She’s killing it across the board.
I don’t love Anne’s dress but it’s pretty and she’s pregnant so probably wants a bit more comfort. Her London look was perfection.

I like Zendaya’s dress, including the sleeves. I’m good with Fashion As Art, so long as it also functions as fashion — i.e. it centers and enhances the person wearing it, rather than subsuming the wearer in the clothes.
And that’s the problem I have with many Philip Treacy headpieces, and with the entire industry-wide practice of obscuring the faces of women wearing high fashion. It becomes about the designer, when clothes should always be finally about the person wearing them.
The various types of face-masking headpieces are mostly seen in runway shows, but it’s been a thing a lot of designers have done for a long time now, and I sincerely hate it. To me it feels openly misogynistic. So I’m disappointed to see Zendaya model that look.
They all look incredible except for Charlize.
Charlie looks somewhat appropriately dressed for the heat we’re experiencing yet again. Zendaya’s dress is lovely but looks heavy, I know I’d be sweating in it.

So I came across a picture of Zendaya (on US weekly) where she’s wearing the headpiece – which apparently is inspired by Jason and the argonautes – with the Eiffel Tower in the background behind, and now I think I understand what they were trying to do. It’s not just a callout to the movie, it’s also a callout to the location of the photocall! Really, it’s visually striking: I don’t think external Links are allowed in comments but essentially…she’s wearing an on-theme Eiffel Tower. Check the pic, it all makes sense 😊

Actually, I really don’t get Charlize’s outfit…
It took me a while to figure out who Charlize was. It looks like she is wearing silky pajama bottoms or men’s underwear. I don’t like it.
Zendaya can do no wrong in my eyes. She is GORGEOUS! Beautiful legs, beautiful skin, a doll like face. The woman is just perfect.
Lupita was killing it in that dress. Anne looks like she was having a rough day, being pregnant and all dealing with that heat.
The other week for a spiderman photocall she just wore a vintage spidey tee Law got off eBay.
Zendaya’s look was only actually impressive when photographed with the Eiffel Tower directly behind her. That was the only time the headpiece looked actually architectural and less dingy doily. And the dress was much better without the duvet covers dangling from the cuffs. Again, looks interesting for an art installation or a photo, but as actual, moving fashion? Just doesn’t do it for me. I do like the neckline/shoulders of the dress.
I love the color on Lupita, but the dress is giving senior prom. And Anne looks beautiful, I’m hard-pressed to judge a pregnant lady’s formalwear. But why do they keep styling her hair so…poofy? It ages her unnecessarily, and her gorgeous face doesn’t need the early-90s Cindy Crawford teased-and-flipped framing.
Charlize’s legs should be insured for millions. Stunning 😍 And she looks like the only one with the good sense not to wear heavy fabrics in such a heatwave.
