Miss America pageant to become reality TV series

In a bid to breathe life into the dated competition, the Miss America Pageant will become a seven-episode reality series to air on Country Music Television.

The series will involve tracking the beauty contestants from state contests through regional competitions and will include personality profiles of the promising entrants. Each episode will focus on a group of contestants as they live together and compete in evening wear, swimwear and talent competitions and in one-on-one interviews with judges.

Judges will secretly select eight of the 15 top finalists and viewers will vote via phone and internet in a bid to fill the other top spots.

The series will culminate in a two-hour finale of the live pageant, according to the Miss America Organization and CMT. Marketing organization William Morris is working with contest organizers on creating the new series.

ABC dropped Miss America after it received low ratings in 2004. Instead of realizing that beauty pageants exploit women and that no one wants to watch them, they're trying to hold on to an out of date concept by turning it into a reality show. We hope it falls flat on its face.
