Michelle Williams in Azzaro for the Blue Valentine premiere: cute or meh?

fp_6224753_bluevalentine_premiere_nyc_08_11

Last night was yet another screening/premiere for Blue Valentine. This one was notable, however, because both Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling (the two leads) actually showed up. Ryan is hypnotizing me with his gorgeous eyes. I can barely see past them, honestly. Michelle is… ugh. The hair. The hair looks slightly better, but it’s still bad overall. The dress is Azzaro – and while I have to applaud her for not doing the old-lady, cream-of-wheat style, but I don’t love the dress. Still, the overall effect is rather cute.

By the way, unless you live in a major city, you probably won’t get the chance to see Blue Valentine, because of its NC-17 rating (most theatres don’t want to touch it). However, now that some people have seen it, we’re getting a better idea as to why the subject matter is so “controversial” that it needs an explicit rating: oral sex. Specifically, Michelle gets hers. What is it about a female being pleasured that makes stuffy old dudes whip out their bitch? Anyway, PopEater has a lengthy discussion about why Blue Valentine won’t be seen by many, and why the ratings system is screwed up, etc. Just beware though – that piece is full of SPOILERS for both Blue Valentine and Black Swan.

  2. brin says:

    lol, Kaiser, “cream-of-wheat style”!
I think she looks better than the last couple of times she’s been photographed.

  3. Rita says:

She’s cute but the whole thing is very unnoticable.

“What is it about a female being pleasured that makes stuffy old dudes whip out their bitch?”

What else is a “stuffy old dude” going to do with it?

It’s so hard to get past Ryan Gosling to comment on Michelle….but overall, AS A WHOLE, her outfit looks cute on her. If you pick everything apart it’s kind of bizarro, but together, it does work. Did I mention I lurve Ryan Gosling SO much??

  5. bellaluna says:

Make the hair a little lighter than the brows – or even just a darker blonde – and it would maybe be ok.

  6. Jackson says:

Oh, IDK. It’s kind of both. I applaud her for having her own personal style but that personal style tends to wash her out and make her look like she’s trying too hard to look like a little waif. I’m tired of seeing the Rosemary’s Baby look from her. She needs a bit of an update.

I am not into fashion AT ALL.. I’m more of a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal… But I know cute when I see it and that dress looks good on her, it works… The hair? Not at all, esp. with the eyebrows. But I have to give her a thumbs up for the dress.. 🙂

  8. Dragonfly says:

Why so glum, chums? Underwear too tight?

  9. anti says:

she’s beautiful but her mee maw hair needs help.

  10. Samigirl says:

…oi. Ryan Gosling…going downtown. ohhh myyy.

  11. Sara says:

I am SO not a fan of white on sickly pale people! It’s just gross and makes these pale women look sick, literally.

  12. REALIST says:

The dress makes her look stubby and everyone is so glum in the pics anyway.

  13. spinner says:

    Ryan Gosling is MINE!!!!

  14. Bee says:

The ratings board is ridiculous. It is full of a bunch of dried up old puritans who think seeing a woman get hacked to death, is preferable to seeing her get laid, well and often. Idiots.

Kaiser, If you are interested in more information on the film rating system and why its so biased check out the documentary “This Film Is Not Yet Rated” – very informative. Takes a behind the scenes look at the people who are deciding that rape-torture scenes = “R” rated and oral sex/female orgasm = NC-17

  16. RHONYC says:

    meh.

the lil’ girl ruffles do nothing for her and the length is too short.

    i got a better question though…

is it me or is michelle’s face getting very ‘nicole kidman’? 😉

  17. maggiegrace says:

Love the hair and makeup. Dress is jejeune.

  18. lrm says:

she looks very washed out. the whole thing-hair and dress coloring with skin tone=washed out.
But, she is beautiful, unique and does her own thing. she always looks beautiful, even just walking down the street, IMO.
so, not her best look, but she still looks fine.

  19. serena says:

Ok the dress is seriously cute, and I love it. But those hair.. they ruin the general effect. I hate them.

  20. Hakura says:

@Sara (#11)- I am SO not a fan of white on sickly pale people! It’s just gross and makes these pale women look sick, literally.

Yes. As someone of an extremely pale complexion, I can say that clothing with a majority of WHITE is to be avoided. That also goes for white *hair*. She’s making herself look so washed out that she’s sort of blending into the background.

And on some people, knees aren’t a pretty thing. This is another thing I can speak from experience with (so I’m totally not trying to be catty). Even just flesh toned tights would’ve been a good move here.

  21. divax says:

Why does she have that same condescending, school-marmy, pursed-lipped, half-smile in every picture?

  22. jzhz says:

I think she’s lovely! I never noticed the eyebrows/hair difference, so many people have it that it seems normal to me.

  23. Donna Wingfield says:

    Yuk.

  24. dahlia47 says:

The3 dress is Meh, and both of them look Meh. The photos are just so boring.

  25. Alexa says:

I like her short platinum hair. It’s refreshing to see someone with a hairCUT. I’m tired of everyone’s LOOOOOOOONG locks. RE the sex scene: I don’t know what it actually SHOWS, but I wish movie makers would simply allude to certain behaviors going down without showing us a skin flick!! That’s why I have seen so few movies. I don’t want to watch porn.
